not very specific what was required to make the best grade. Went to her office hours multiple times and it did nothing. I would ask a question and her response was youtube it. Toughest grader I've ever had.

Berken is by far the worst teacher I have ever encountered in my entire life. Poor communicator also does not care if her class does not understand her material. Tests are pulled from nowhere and are nothing like any material available to students in her class. I have always been an honor student and failed her class.

Terrible. Does not explain concepts. Brushes over in class questions. She will mark off all of the points for a simple calculation error. Would have rather taken an online course than wasted my time listening to her. They let her teach this class once and I doubt the department will let her teach it again.

No words to describe how exhausting this class was mentally and emotionally. I made the worst grades of my college career in this class after perfect attendance, doing the homework, and studying. No partial credit was given for working the entire problem correctly and one mistake leading to the wrong answer. Do no register for her at all costs.

Absolutely do not recommend this professor to anyone. She grades test extremely hard with no leniency. One thing is wrong the whole problem is wrong. Study for the final for a week and still barely passed. Make sure to attend class and do ALL the quizzes. She also moved very quickly and you have to teach yourself most of the time.

DO NOT TAKE HER AT ALL COSTS. I rarely feel this strongly about a professor, but Berken is HORRIBLE. She doesn't care if you fail and will fail you unless you are the rare breed of student who has no job and no life outside of school and can spend 40 hr a week on one class. Ive never taken a professor that cared less about students than she did. Never gave partial credit on tests like she clams she does. Tried to make appointment with her out side of her office hour times (b/c her times were during my work) and she declined. She is the worst professor I've taken. Seriously would not take her. Absolutely terrible.

I dont recommend her to anyway. Shes such a tough grader, you get points taken off for anything. We started out with a class full and no one was left in this class and she still didnt care.

Her tests and notes do not match up. Her notes seem easy but the tests are very hard, she also grades extremely hard.

Took 231 with Berken in 17. Ended up failing due to hard grading and just no care on my part due to the fact that i could not get help from her. Retook the class with a different professor two semesters later and made an A. So if that doesnt help you make your decision then good luck.

Redid hw 4 times to make a C on 1st test and did online assignment. Second test nothing like hw that i redid i think 3 times. Made a 35. A lady in my class made a 12 on 2nd test. Another student 41. Tests way too long no time to check answers. Sweet teacher doesnt care about ur grade 1 mistake on test no partial credit. No extra credit opportunity

please avoid her. so many other teachers that ive heard were better. heard she was one of the harder teachers after started taking her. really understood what people meant after the second test. even had access to her old test. still failed and barely passed the first test after studying a crap ton. save yourself.

Do not take her. She is very nice, but her test are nearly impossible unless you are amazing in math already.

Not a lot of feedback on how to make corrections, uses a textbook that explains a different program than what is used in class.

I took notes, watched every lecture and even did tutoring sessions. I prepared and studied so hard for the 2nd test and actually thought I did well but I actually did worse than I did on the 1st exam. All her emails insuated that everyone was failing and students were emailing her like crazy. If everyone is failing, you're the problem not us.

Worst Professor in the history of ever! I studied hours and hours, did all lectures, homework, and additional tutoring, all to get to the test and it have nothing she has taught on it! I could do the homework in my sleep but still made like a 30 on the first 2 tests. I ended dropping as to not tank my GPA.

Berken is the worst professor I have ever taken. I was able to pass by the skin of my teeth because this was basically the only class I had to study for that semester. if your class starts with 30 students and ends with 5 or 6, theres a reason, and its not lazy students. Its a horrible professor. Prime example why I hate this school.

Awful. Her instruction was to YouTube if you need help beyond the book. Her responses to questions were so cryptic and confusing because she is desperately trying not to give you the answer, but also not teaching. I had an A before the final project, which she was so critical of and refused to answer my emails asking for clarification. Avoid her!

This is the worst professor at McNeese! 20 to 25 students were in the class at the beginning of the semester and at the end 5 to 6 people left. Out of those 2 or 3 passed. She does not care about helping you pass, she only cares about you meeting her standards on her tests. If you don't points are cut left and right for the smallest mistakes.

There is something wrong with the professor when every semester the class dwindles down to 5 or less people. It's not the students and its not just because it's a hard class. It's because of her tough grading.

She acts like she cares but then didn't do anything to actually help, just told us to study harder. Told her I was graduating this semester but she didn't care and because of her tough grading and exams my graduation and career is delayed because I was 2.7 points and away from a passing letter grade

She is one of the toughest professor I have ever had. No matter how much I studied, I ended up failing this class along with multiple other students. This is the only class I have ever failed in my entire life. Took class again with different professor and ended up with A+.

If you're a international student here is a suggestion don't take this class at all regardless being international student or not she does not teach anything in class and expects you to know everything. Its very tough to even get a decent grade with this class because there are no notes provided not help from the professor for any homework.

This is by far the worst instructor that I have taken in my school journey. She grades hard, deducts points for stupid things, and does not give you feedback. Oh, and don't ask her a question about the assignment, because her response back to you will be with a question. Dr. Berken pretends like she wants to help you, but she is no help. AWFUL!

First day of class and she walks in and says, "I'm overqualified to be teaching this course." Would not recommend for any student at Mcneese, she does not allow you to get help from outside sources. says "The following questions should be completed ON YOUR OWN with no outside help from TUTORS, OTHER STUDENTS, THE INTERNET, ETC." Doesn't teach.

She barely teaches. She gives you homework and then makes you figure it out. Most students raise their hands to figure it out. It's like if you teach the homework less people would have questions. Also she is not helpful at all. I asked for help on a question and told her I still don't get it and she walked away. Please don't take this class!

she does not care if you pass or fail. she sucks at teaching, she thinks her way of teaching is the best even though she doesn't teach at all. she doesnt care if the whole class is confused or failing. she expects you to already know what shes talking about but yet she doesn't explain it at all. all in all worse professor ive ever experienced.

You can tell she is very knowledgeable on the subject but refuses to share her knowledge. It felt like I was trying to complete a puzzle with a bunch of pieces missing. She was sweet and thought she was doing what was best but honestly if you aren't already knowledgeable about statistics then her teaching style isn't for you.

Clearly very knowledgeable in statistics. However, you're left on your own with a textbook, PowerPoint from the previous textbook edition, and a bunch of YouTube videos as lectures. Questions on quizzes are often weirded oddly, almost like trick questions-no leniency on grading (quiz/activities count for 80% of your grade). "Feedback" is laughable.

I am lucky I had the basic knowledge of Stat so I could make a passing grade.felt sorry for others who had to drop coz they had none.She does not explain her material at all.She gives you classwork and expects you to figure it out and her tests are nothing like the homework/ classwork.She does not give partial points for getting it right to a point

Berken is a terrible professor, she doesn't teach the lesson at all, all she does is let you "figure it out". When you have questions, it's always answered very vague and non-descriptive. Even when I went to office hours and had questions one on one she still wouldn't answer them well. If you can take this class with anyone else I would.

She bases her course on an IBL method. This basically means she gave us a stack of papers with all the material and had us sit there and try to understand and figure out what we were looking at, then answer a couple of (lengthy) questions on the material. If math is not your strong suit or learning things on your own. AVOID this class.

A horrible professor overall. Will not allow makeup for any missed assignments even for university approved absence (sick with doctors note). Seems like she couldn't care less about students. Her teaching style is posting notes you figure it out. don't ask questions you will be asked "is that what your what you're supposed to do" wouldn't recommend

Steer far away from this teacher! She does use inquired based learning meaning that you are to learn most everything yourself. Which is fine but the assignments she gives you are not even close to what is on the test. Also she literally told us that you should probably drop this class on the first day after explain how she teaches.

If she is the only professor that fits your schedule, take this class next semester!! You have been warned. It would be great if her in class work that you have to self-learn was based on the material that comes out in the tests.

Stay on top of your assignments! The notes are used more than the book. The program used for this class does not correlate with the books program. She does not give credit when credit is due. The only positive with this course is no test, just weekly quizzes and assignments. Follow the final assignment rubric closely. No partial credit!!

Her work is very draining. I would ask a question and she would respond with, "Did you read the paper?" Then I would tell her that I didn't understand the paper and she would say, "Go to the tutoring center." She wasn't helpful and never bothered to elaborate on what she was trying to explain. She is very mean and overall not a very great teacher.

This professor is not for you if you do not like to teach yourself the material, and would rather a professor teach it to you. She is not helpful and you can not ask to receive help because she will not help you. AVOID this professor!!!!!!

Folks, this class was a BIG mess. She thinks she's the Chief, but she is NOT. My GPA? Took a HISTORIC hit—looks like Mahomes in the first half of the 2025 Super Bowl. Would I take this again? Not for a million dollars. Very bad, very sad! This class put belt to ass on my GPA so hard, it's gonna take years to recover—a total and complete disgrace!

Honestly the worst teaching experience of my life. Couldn't learn a single thing even with attending all classes. Teacher likes to make you do a quiz every class on things that were never covered or fully explained. Also forget actual learning, this teacher has decided that doesn't work and you should just walk into the class and do questions.

This was the only class I have ever had to drop, because there was absolutely no way I could've passed it. The class started out full and by the time I dropped there was 7 students left. She selects random people to give a summary of the last class... that she didn't teach! Because it's IBL learning so you teach yourself. Don't recommend.

This is the worst teacher I've ever had. Her "teaching style" is a horrible concept that clearly doesn't not work. I was one of 8 students left of a 30 person class before dropping. She offers basically no help in learning the lesson plan and refuses to actually do her job as a teacher and teach students.

She thinks her class is the only class you have. Expects you to know how to do everything on ur own. Doesn't teach just gives you a sheet and says read. Her teaching method is you have to fail to learn except you just fail and get degraded for not understanding it the first time. Will not help you with understanding things and says figure it out.

IBL based learning and flipped classroom is a lazy approach to teaching, had students grade her tests, didn't teach during classes only reviewed. Took the same class with a different teacher a semester after and got a high A and didn't struggle.

Never take this lady if you need this class for your major. Thinks she is too good to be teaching a lower-class section. Very lazy with her teaching of making the other students do her job. This is the only class I struggled with ever as a 4.0 student. I would drive head first into I-10 traffic before ever retaking her

Taking her for Stats 433. hands down the worst professor I have ever had at this university. Grading hard is an understatement with how she grades. If you get any small thing incorrect or explain something in a way she does not like, unlike other reasonable professors who would give you partial credit, it is completely wrong. Do not take ever.
