I recommend her for BSC 1025 lab! So easy!!
Excellent personality! She really cares about the success of her students. You are well prepared for her exams....TAKE HER!!!!
love her:) she is very helpful and down to earth. Take her for micro
She's super friendly and really gets into the subject (microbiology) offers extra credit at the beginning of class with a question even if you get it wrong. Definitely take her :)
young energetic friendly teacher, very organized & helpful. Presents info clearly. Excellent personality. shes passionate for subject taught. take her! Go Noles! ;)
I loved her class...she is awesome. I learned a lot and really enjoyed this class. I would take Dr. Bess for any other class she offers. She makes learning Micro fun! If you are unsure about something she will take the time to review it with you. She wants you to learn Micro and she loves the subject herself.
Wwwwwwwwwooooooooooowwwwwwwww!!!!!!!!she is super hit!!!!!!!
I think she is a great teacher when it comes to the subject of micro, but is terrible at people skills. She makes you feel like you are dumb tells you to ask if you need help, but puts you down if you do. Very insensitive to personal issues and would reccomend someone taking her if you don't have to talk to her.
Very intelligent, seems to want to make sure your taking class serious. Definetly wants to make sure everyone understands material. Attendance is important (as should be) to her, but she will reward you for it. Overall I would have recommend her class because in the end she wants you to succeed....
Dr. Bess is an awesome teacher! She is not easy, but is very fair. She really wants to see her students do well. Attendance is not mandatory, but there are perks at the end if you do go to class.
Bess seems to be very knowledgeable but shows very little interest in students success. No interpersonal skills!! When you ask a question, she can be very condescending. Having already earned a bachelors and a masters, I find her one of the worst teachers I've ever had.
Dr. Bess is awesome! She is EXTREMELY helpful and will stay after class to help you whenever you need it. You must come to lab prepared to work and her tests are pretty hard. Overall, she is great!
Dr. Bess is one of the best teachers i have ever had! She is very understanding and will do anything in her power to help you out. Her tests are very difficult but she gives a little extra credit here and there to boost up your test score. Also the last test and an easy 100! I have learned so many new things thanks to Dr. Bess she is amazing!
Awsomeness. She helps you with anything you need. good sense of humor too (loved the Seinfeld reference) Great runner.
Dr Bess is by far an awesome teacher. She keeps you attentive in the class, doesnt make you feel dumb for asking "off the wall" questions, and makes you want to teach yourself this stuff. This was my 2nd attempt in taking this course and i can defintely say Dr Bess is just that....THE BEST. highly recommended. Go to class & review her notes. easy A
I worked really hard for my grade. REALLY HARD. She is tough, but sooooo worth it. Take her!
Dr. Bess is the best professor ever! She is to the point and exact. Gives you exactly what you need to take the test. No homework at all, she gives extra credit opportunities. She has 4 exams and reviews for all of them. Easy class if you're focused. Her personality is amazing as well. She is very helpful.
Bess is amazing! She's direct, clear, organized and to the point. She's humble about having a Ph.D and you don't need the book. She teaches by Power points that are interesting and visually appealing. No homework/classwork. Just her tests can be a bit tricky but studying for that shouldn't be hard since she teaches it so clearly! Take her!
I love Dr.Bess she is an incredible teacher. straight forward
Who ever said she was an easy A must be kidding. I worked so hard in her class and got a C. The people who really knew their stuff got a high B or a low A. Yeah she's strait forward but the study guides and slides makeup for about %80 of the tests. The other percentage, idk. I hear Whitlock is boring but easier. Took him for lab, easy A.
Dr Bess is a very good teacher,This was my second atempt at this class. I work very hard and she rewarded me with an A. she will give you extra points for attendance
Very organized, and posts grades within minutes. She gives you all the tools needed to get an A but is up to you to put in the work and effort. No need for the textbook, you can get an A by studying from her slides, and your notes. I wished she would teach stats, psyc, human behavior, and every class I have left.
Dr Bess has made Microbiology my favorite subject this semester. Her lecture notes are very useful - 99.9% of the exam is from them. Some of my classmates have commented that she is challenging but I think its fair to consider that this is a college course, preparing adults for an actual career we have chosen, as this is not an elective course.
Dr. Bess is by far the BEST instructor I've had. Her test come directly from her powerpoints. She's very helpful and funny. I didn't have an interest in science at first but I do now. I actually learned alot. I got a 96 out her class. TAKE HER!
Amazing teacher, she cares about her students and enjoys teaching. Makes class fun and you can ask any question. I looked forward to her class. Test are little hard but use study guide and power points she gives. Go to class cause everyday there is a easy one question pop quiz that counts for extra credit.
Great teacher. Help with whatever she can. Very clear on what she expects. You must study for this lab in order to pass the class.
Dr. Bess is extremely knowledgable and passonate about Microbiology and it shows. She has an ability to take a complex subject matter and translate it into an interesting lecture that most people with 1/2 a brain can understand. Her tests are hard, but she gives all the help a student could need to pass (study slides/practice tests).
Took her Nutrition and Drugs online. offers extra credit. grades fairly, final exam is definition/terminology based, easy class if you keep up with it and not get behind.
The Nutrition class was very interesting and informative. Dr. Bess gives a powerpoint with each chapter for the online course that helped tremendously when it came to studying. You will pass the course if you study and do all of the assignments. She is fair and wants her students to do well.
Hardest A I've ever earned! She gives a list of what exactly is going to be on the test. Study early! Use her mnemonics. They are super helpful! Although this is a tough class, the knowledge you acquire in her lab will always be beneficial when entering into the medical field.
I took her for anatomy lab and had a blast! She is not an easy teacher, the material is simply hard, not really her. It takes a lot of repition so b prepared to study. However, she tells you everything you will need to know for each exam and quiz. I learned a lot from her and wished she taught A&PII. If you are positive and study, you will do great
took her for lab and shes awesome! she wants everyone to do good and she is very clear with what is going to be on tests. material is extremely hard but she does a good job in helping you to remember. short easy quiz almost every week to help your grade and like 3 exams. wish she taught a&p 2. take her you wont regret it!
I would recommend her to anyone and I will definitely be taking her class for A&P 2 lab. She is very clear on what you need to study to ace the tests. Class always ends early unless you want to stay. For those who do stay later, she will help you with mnemonics and other tricks to remember the material. Highly recommended!
Had her for lab. You MUST attend class. She gives a handout every week on EXACTLY what to study. There are 3 exams and 5 quizzes all with extra credit. Exams are very straightforward. Quizzes are easy-10 questions. She can be a little catty/rude if you ask simple questions. Overall a good teacher though. I enjoyed her lab!
Dr. Bess is a cool person in the classroom but her people skills are horrible. She doesn't care about the success of the students at all. Dr. Bess is a horrible person to talk to but her class is okay. Don't take her offers for any help, she probably won't help you. She makes you feel really stupid, like you're incapable of doing certain things.
I was so excited for this class. The lecture I had with another teacher was great, but her class was horrible! She hands out a paper with items on the quiz, however there are over 100 items and the quiz is only 10 questions long. Her passion is microbiology and I heard she is a great teacher in that class, but definitely not this one.
This is a heard class, no doubt about it. However, Dr. Bess provides clear expectations through her syllabus and chapter handouts. I believe I am well prepared for A and P II after taking her course.
I love the fact that she is organized and tells you what you need to know to do well in the course. It's up to you to do the work, but overall it isn't impossible to do well like in other teacher's classes.
I really enjoyed Dr. Bess's course. Everything is covered in her lectures. She gives you exactly what you need to do well on her exams. Her homework is reasonable and actually helps you learn the material. She grades things super-fast and is super-organized. Not always very patient with students in lab, but overall I would take her for any course!
She has already helped me with like 5 things and we have just started the semester. Awessome prof!
For A&P lab, she doesn't really help unless you have a question; most of the class she just sits at her desk grading for other classes. Her exams are half lab practical, half mult. choice, but are super difficult; I'm taking the same class again because I failed it last semester with her..
Dr. Bess is wonderful in Micro lecture! Her exams aren't super easy, but aren't impossibly difficult; as long as you study and put in the effort you will do well. You can tell Micro is her niche because she is so passionate and happy to teach it. She will answer any question you have
She is a cool professor, her mid terms and exams are a bit much, mid term was ( all the tissues, "cuts" of the body, ALL the bones, half multi choice, written exam , and a portion where u have to walk around the class and identify things-).If you spell something wrong the ENTIRE thing is wrong. I had better hopes for her class,I advise you RUN!
The lab material is hard, ughhh...but she is good!
Very straight forward teacher. Gave us handouts on what we need to study. Drops the lowest quiz grade. Only 3 exams. The exams were hard but only if you didn't study. YOU MUST STUDY at least everyday. MUST SPELL EVERYTHING CORRECT. will count as wrong. Do not slack off!! Only extra credit was on either quizzes or exams. Best teacher ever!! Got a B+
Helpful and clear!
Dr Bess was a amazing teacher. Her class is interesting and she makes it fun. No need to buy the book, and must memorize her powerpoints. Tests are straight from the handouts. She does not try to trick you. 5 tests for 18% each and 5 handouts (due whenever) worth 10%. Extra credit on each test. She is an awesome teacher! Take her class.
Dr. Bess laid out the course exactly as she tested on it. Everything on the exercises was on the test, and the 5 quizzes she let you know exactly what you had to study. She is a tough teacher, but if you are good at memorizing and have the time to study it's an easy class.
Dr. Bess gave clear guidelines on how to be successful in the course. She is fair and always there to answer questions and offers to help. This is a hard course with a lot of memorization. Repeat A LOT of memorization. You have to take the time to do the work. DON"T leave lab early. Use the time to study.
Although this class was not easy you definitely learn the material. Her labs are very short, simple, fun, and to the point. If you are just looking for an easy A and to not further your education I suggest you not take her, but if you want to LEARN she is your best bet!
Dr. Bess was great. I took Microbiology & Human Diseases lecture with her. She made the material much easier to understand and retain. Unlike the professor who subbed for her while she was out the 1st month, she takes the time to explain the complex info in a way that you'll remember and use as a health care professional. Definitely recommend her!
The class itself is pretty easy and straightforward (read, assignments, tests, lab reports) but the final is a 100 question multiple choice test on 400+ vocabulary from 13 chapters. She's not too personable either so make sure to re-read your syllabus and directions about 100 times before asking her anything.
Great professor! The class is really easy if you study the exercise papers she hands out, if you study those papers it is a guaranteed A!
She is very helpful and understanding if you have to make up a test because your sick. If you don't come to class you definitely will not pass. I wish that she was a lab teacher for Anatomy 2. Tests are hard you definitely need to study for this course.
Great teacher. Fun and educational class too. Labs are very fun and interesting! You do have to put in the time with lots of homework but only mid-term and final for exams. And they are just studying the vocab! Would recommend 100% to someone who is willing to do some homework.
If you decide to learn the material, this class is very doable. A&P is a lot of work but IMHO she breaks it down on a simple level for students.
Have a quiz every other week, but clearly explains what the quizzes are on. A lot of memorization, so study. 3 exams total, read the actual lab manual and you'll be fine. Helps students when you don't understand. Over all great professor, she knows what she's doing!
Not the best teacher in my opinion. She was very rude in my case but others will have their opinions. She was not really the best help when it was needed. Would not recommend her at all.
I actually learned stuff, which is more than I can say for my other classes. Take her if you can!
I took this class thinking it would be easier than it actually was. I took this class online to fill a degree requirement. Homework and quizzes are all done through the book, and her labs are an easy A. Make sure you do the assignments, she takes no pity on excuses. Her midterm and final are difficult if you don't actually study the material.
Dr. Bess is a wonderful professor. Her course layout is easy to follow and the online labs are interesting. As long as you put in the time and study, the course should be an easy A.
DON'T take this class with her, if you have a question about anything that you missed on a quiz/test she simply replies that "she doesn't give the answers due to cheating"so you're on your own trying to figure out what you missed or why? For being an online class she's not helpful at all. Mid-term & final are over 200 vocabulary from 6-7 chapters.
Ok, so, if you are ready to do a lot of work then take her. But everything in her class is clear and easy to find. she always responded to my emails right away and she helped me understand all the digestive molecules which was hard for me. i liked taking this online. very convenient.
Not helpful in an online class whatsoever. Don't expect an answer that will actually help you through the class when emailing her.
Dr. Bess is a a great prof. Her class was a lot of homework but in the end it wasn't too bad. She helped me out when I had questions.
so glad I took her! the class had good expectations and she was really nice
I didn't like her at first. She just seemed rude and uninterested, but then she loosened up and I ended up loving her class. She tells you EXACTLY what you need to know for the exams. If you are willing to go to class and take advantage of lab time then you will do fine. A lot of memorization, but that is A&P.
This professor is rude and don't like to answer questions at all . I didn't like her attitude and her class was boring. students felt to sleep in class she just read the power point. This course demand a lot of memorization. I would not recommend her, but if you take this course DON"T take it with BSC2085 is very hard.
Clear expectations and easy to follow notes. I would take her again
I took her for Micro, very hard class. You have to study a lot to get an A. She is very clear on what the tests will be on. You must be able and willing to put in the time for this class. She can be kind of rude, just don't ask stupid questions and youll be fine.
She isn't a bad teacher just not a good teacher for micro. doesn't give study guides and expects you to be able to remember 4 chapters of info with barely a clue of whats going to be on the test.
Clear and easy to follow. You need to know a lot to pass this class but it isn't too hard.
Pretty good class. Mostly textbook though. She gives you slides on canvas to look over. Tests are all online except the final exam. Which is on campus.
Easy class to pass if you complete the assignments. Get ready to bust out the wallet for books, Connect, ProctorU, and lab assignment materials. She uses ProctorU for 40% of your grade weight(mid-term and final,) so I do not suggest her if you have test anxiety and dont want your privacy infringed on. The exams are on vocab, but theres over 500.
YOU BETTER START READING BOI, this class is not a JOKE
One word to describe her as a professor: horrible.
I took Bess for an online biological foundations lab online. This class was easy enough; if you did not do well on the modules, you can redo them and get an A on every single one. Lots of reading in this class, and be prepared to have your wallet out because you have to pay to access the modules in the first place. Really easy A.
I took professor bess for her drugs and nutrition course online expecting test to be on canvas! She uses ProtorU which they watch you online and you basically pay $20 to take the exam. So for the people who have test anxiety or would like to save some money be careful about taking this course. Overall, fair class
I'm an Allied Health major and she definitely teaches us what we need to know to pass this class and to pass future exams and get into nursing school. I am glad I chose to take her because I will be well prepared. She's awesome.
I took Dr. Bess for Microbiology and it was just miserable. She can be very rude and doesnt care to answers students questions at times. It doesnt really seem like she cares. Youre going to need an access code to do the weekly online homework. She reads from the powerpoints. Shes really knowledge but I wish she cared more about students.
I took her for lab and shes such a tough grader. If you misspell something she doesnt give you any credit. This class is harder than my actual lecture and its only for 1 credit. You do everything yourself if you have questions shell answer but its all memorization, she cant really help with that. If you can take another professor!
Dr. Bess, like she wants to be called, seems that she doesn't want to teach. She doesn't like to answer any questions. She thinks that if she gives you the instructions at the first time ,you are supposed to know everything so don't ask any questions.
dr. bess was super helpful when i went to her office for extra help. she gave me some study tips and it helped bring my grade up to a high B. the content for micro is overwhelming but she did a good job to help me through it.
AMAZING educator. Her class is hard but if you go to the lectures she explains everything in a way that is easy to actually learn. you wont just memorize info, you will know something when you leave that class.
This professor instructions are not clear and her testing in overall ridiculous. I dont how she was rated a 4.2 but none the less deserving of that . Im not saying give a grade but make ur instructions clear so that students can pass All thumbs down !!!!!!
REad the reviews below and YES this is a hard class, but she does a good job at explaining all the difficult stuff. She does give good notes and she expects a lot but you will learn it!
Easy grader on the lab. Just don't wait last minute and you'll be fine. The only thing I don't like is how you have to pay extra for the mid term and final, and give the proctors full access of your personal computer while you take them.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. I AM A RETIRED VETERAN AND SHE WOULDN'T HELP ME PASS EVEN THOUGH MY AVERAGE WAS A 68.8 AND I NEEDED 1 POINT TO PASS.
Awesome teacher !
Lectures and exams have different class times, exams starts 15 minutes later than regular class time and for the first quiz i thought the quiz also started the same time as the exam but it did not and when i tried to explain that i was confused she replied "Oh well i don't know what to tell you". She will always tell students to drop her class too
All of the labs are with McGraw Hill Connect and are virtual. Sometimes, the labs don't grade properly and take off 1-2 points, but this doesn't affect your grade much. Quizzes are given every 2-3 virtual labs and a final project (also online) is due at the end of the course.
This online class was great. It was really nice that she has been teaching online for a long time because it makes it easy to figure out what I need to do. Some profs are all over the place but all the requiremets were listed in her class.
We moved from lecture in a classroom to online since the covid forced us to change. She was great for both! Obviously I liked being in the classroom better but since everything is so clearly layed out she was good to take online. Loved the discussion posts and writing stuff we did too.
Online classes are so intimidating to me, but she is great! I would take her again if she taught it online.
Class was tougher than Differential Equations because professor does not want to help.
I chose this professor based on the positive overall rate but I was really disappointed to find out how bad this class was. Professor Bess doesn't like to explain clearly the assignments nor answer the e-mails, she did not show any passion about the subject and she clearly showed as less as possible effort to teach. No excuses for an online class!
I needed this class to graduate and it was a lot of work but as long as you get the work finished, your grade should be fine. I totally forgot about 2 lab assignments and I still got a high B.
good class, I am taking her again for nutition
dr. Bess always answered my email questions about the notes even when I had a lot of them. I wish she was teaching A&P still.
Shes nice and the class expectations are super clear.
Very knowledgeable and responds quickly to questions/concerns. Class is straightforward and includes 5 exams, 5 discussion posts, 10 reading/vocab quizzes, and 15 textbook exercises. All of these are grouped into "blocks" that you complete throughout the semester. The only thing that sucks is that there is NO opportunity for extrta credit or curve
Most expensive class I've taken and I'm done with my CS degree. Hard for a nutrition class. Lots of reading and quizzes. Exams are very specific definitions, even said she purposely puts in very similar answers to trip you up. AND you have 4 multi-day labs to do. Reached out with a question and she said find it yourself. 0/10
I honestly liked her because she gave handouts on what you had to know for exams. But I will say it was way more information than you actually needed, but a lot of teachers do that. But if you have questions she will gladly answer! I say take her shes not bad at All In my opinion
The whole class was interactive online labs and a few quizzes. Very easy and the interactive labs feel almost feel like a game. 10/10 would recommend!
i took micro with another prof online and this was way better. she explains the chapters really well and is easy to listen to. i got a lot out of going to class but i also worked hard this time around.
I took Professor Bess for anatomy lab. She was amazing. Very organized and lays everything out for you. She gives you plenty of time in class to ask for help and practice what you need to know. I Definitely recommend her. you have to be willing to put forth the time and effort to receive an A. She makes it very manageable.
bess was the best, take her you won't regret it
The class is what you make of it. It doesn't matter what professor you have, its going to be hard. She comes across as intimidating, but she expects you to try and to study. If you do not study YOU WILL FAIL. Overall, I liked Dr. Bess.
MCB2000 Lab. The lab was fun & to the point. She has quizzes online, offers extra credit, three big grades including final. She requires her own book but doesn't use it much, can be printed in library for cheap. Shes very type A so dont be taken aback if you ask for help & she comes off rude, idt she means to be like that. overall easy class.
She uses Honorlock for tests, which have 60 questions in 60 minutes, leaving no time. I failed the first exam, which is worth 20% of the total grade. Getting an A is impossible. She doesn't provide additional tasks or answer questions, always referring to the textbook or syllabus. Communication is impossible. Don't take her class.
Great class! I really enjoyed taking it as a 12 week because the pace worked for my schedule. She is super helpful when you have a question and she helped me with my schedule for next semester.
Labs easy, all in Ebook. Work due in chunks, can work ahead. Easy grader. Labs=100% when completed &25% of grade, 6quizzes lowest dropped=25% 2reports 6?s each=25% Final=25% & honorlock & timed+EC. Study Guide for Final w/all 60?s. Rude/Condescending, will not help w/questions but u shouldnt need much help. Quiz ?s on quizlet. 8wk course=EASY A
good prof, liked this course alot. the labs were kinda fun but a lot of work
midterm and final use honorlick. friendly and helpful. I would take her again.
I took microbiology lab with Dr Bess. She is a great professor. You need a lab manual and attendance is a must. But you will learn a lot in this lab. She is a very fair grader. There are many opportunities for extra credit throughout the semester, do not ignore them. MCB is hard, don't be afraid to ask questions!
Professor Bess was honestly really good. I was nervous taking an online lab course but it was super easy to manage and I had no problem completing the work. As long as you set aside 30 minutes, at most, of your day to do one of the labs, you will do fine. The final is super easy if you understood the labs. Would definitely take her again!
10/10 would take again. I feel prepared to take A&P 2 now.
Dr. Bess is a FANTASTIC teacher. Her lectures are very organized and easy to follow, and her tests are direct. She is very helpful when you need her and I would recommend this teacher to anyone.
There was about 10 labs dropped every other week, the class was super easy. The labs were fun it was like a game. Final exam was 60 questions 60 minutes, I did not finish the exam in time but I still passed and got an A. Final exam had HONORLOCK. She was great though, you shouldnt need help with anything because it was only lab and lab discussion.
I wasn't a fan of her initially, she can come off a bit rude. However, her criteria is clear cut, the bone and muscle games she provides are fun and help a lot. Definitely pay attention to the vocab she gives and read your manual as well as being able to label bones, muscles etc. I would take again but only because I understand how she operates.
10/10 would take again, I managed to get a good grade when I realized the work load and then made sure I got it all done. Study for the exams!
You will be expected to memorize A LOT in this class. Dr. Bess was pretty hands off, and we were expected to teach ourselves a good amount. She was nice, but I wish I knew that beforehand.
She does not grade fairly she has no empathy for students who put in the work for technology not to go 100% and then you be at fault for not having control over it
I recently have had some trouble logging on to my honor lock exam due to technical errors when I asked for any thing I can do to fix it or make up the test grade she told me “no, that's my problem” and then ignored my follow up message
