Great Professor but really makes you work for it. She is really funny and using examples from the real world. The tests at time seemed impossible and I don't think they needed to be that hard. She doesn't test for memory, she tests for mastery. Have quizzes and tests throughout the semester. Quizzes were 10 short answer, straight forward.
Jennifer presents information aptly, and her tests appropriately reflect the info presented in lecture. While she doesn't outright require attendance, it seemed to help. A normal amount of class attendance and text reading should earn you a B. If you have the time, you can earn an A without much extra effort.
While there aren't many things padding grades & the material is really hard, Boubina is amazing! She really cares about her students and frequently asks for how she could be helping us more or be teaching better. She let us choose what topics we want on the final in intentionally is only teaching a little before the exam to leave review time.
Professor Bourbina really allows the students to understand the information by giving great examples and explanations. Not only is her class interesting, it's fun to learn as well. For some people, learning about the human body isn't all that fun, but with Professor Bourbina, she somehow makes the information intriguing to learn. Also very nice!
Never took an Anatomy and Physiology class before and I was really worried about struggling with it. Definitely one of my favorite Profs. Very caring and easy to talk with. Cares about her students and finds ways to teach hard material in different ways. Asks for our feedback on the material being taught and asks if anyone needs to go more disc.
Before you take this class, you should know that its difficult no matter who you have. There is a lot to know, and you have to work hard for it. Bourbina is a great professor, she's fun, and understands the life of a student and knows her stuff. Tests were tough for me, other people did well but I struggled. Really need to know everything to do wel
Professor Bourbina is awesome. She is one of the best professors I've ever had, and I absolutely love how much she tries to help her students. She provides fill in the blank notes, writes her own tests and provides tons of practice questions (written by her), which help a lot. You can really tell that she wants her students to succeed. Choose her!
Bourbina is so helpful, she makes outlines with fill in the blanks for every chapter, she makes practice questions for every chapter to study from, and is truly invested in students passing. She even asked us what we wanted to have on our final cumulative exam!
A&P is going to be a difficult class regardless of your professor. But she made this class enjoyable and easy. Posts notes fill in the blank style that correspond exactly to her lecture and powerpoint. She truly cares about her students doing well and will give you everything you need to be successful as long as you put in the work.
Very tough grader, based on few assignments and exams.... beware of how much material she packs in before an exam.
I loved this professor! She is an excellent teacher, creates easy to read notes, posts multiple practice worksheets per chapter that mirror questions on her exams, and easy quizzes in class that are worth 10 points. She is funny & is very approachable and accessible outside of class. She cares about her students & wants them to succeed! Take her!!!
I really enjoyed Professor Bourbina's class. Her lectures were funny and she included a lot of anecdotes that helped me to understand and stay focused. She gives practice questions for each exam which is a huge help too. Would definitely recommend her!
Student friendly. Wants people to be successful.
Mrs. Bourbina is an incredible person and teacher. She always wanted students to meet with her in her office and she was very helpful and accommodating. The class was hard but she made it enjoyable. If you have a choice, take her class. She is incredible!
I enjoyed having Bourbina as a prof. Her lecture notes are all fill in the blank style which were really helpful. Class still requires effort. You need to be in class or make buddies with someone who will send you the notes. Overall I think she's a good choice.
I was really nervous about this class because I knew it was going to be difficult, but Professor Bourbina really cares about her students and wants everyone to do well. She provides plenty of practice problems for the exams and is very helpful in her office hours. This class is not a breeze, but if you put in the work you will do well.
I just wasn't a fan. I would try to smile at her and she would look the other way, she wasn't super warm. This class was super difficult and you're only graded on exams, pretty much. Her exams would have A, B, C, D, and E. D would be something like "A & C are true" and E would be "None of the above". Look for a different professor.
I didn't care for her too much. She didn't help much when I had questions, and her tests were very difficult. The only thing your grade is based off of is the tests which really sucks because if you do bad on one, your whole grade is screwed. I would recommend finding a different professor.
this was her first semester at GV but I think she did a really good job. I struggled early on and asked her for help and if it werent for her I probably would have failed the class. She truly cares about her students success and will take the time outside of class as well as during to really make sure you understand the material.
The class material was tough, but she taught it in a variety of ways to make sure every learning style can get it. Her office hours help a lot as do her test taking tips. Tough grader, but for a reason: she wants to know you get it, and as future healthcare workers I see her point. Class is lecture with fill in the blank notes.
She was the best professor I have ever had; she is clear in what we need to know for exams, there is no homework, so it falls all on tests and quizzes, but the material is all given to you in the fill in the blank notes, so you have to go to class. She expands on the material in class so having the notes sent to you isnt always enough.
I took Prof. Bourbina's BMS 250 class because it is a pre-rec for the nursing program. Her class was great! She uses the entire class time (never lets us out early) to lecture. She uses fill in the blank notes. She creates practice tests/materials leading up to exams- very useful when studying because her exams are similar. Highly recommend.
She is the best professor I've ever had! I actually learned the material and understood it. Highly recommend but study hard for this class!
Really good professor all around, very tough class but she gives really good explanations and supplies you with note packets to take notes on based on her lectures. Covers everything that's on the exams in class. I'd highly recommend taking her class.
I HIGHLY recommend taking Prof Bourbina. Shes so approachable and wants her students to do well. If you're struggling, talk to her! She'll help you figure out the best way to study. Im retaking 250 and having her as a prof has helped me understand the material a lot better! My best advice is study after every class and stay on top of the material.
I really enjoyed Professor Bourbina. She was very willing to help students in and out of class. She was in her office multiple days a week and responded well to email. Her lectures were very interactive and I liked that she provided skeleton notes for lectures since anatomy has so much information to take down. 10/10.
Bourbina is hands down one of the very best profs I've ever had. Her lectures, in my personal opinion, are so so in depth and engaging. I feel good walking out of that class each day because I know I learned something. I feel as though she prepared me very well for my career. I'm bummed she doesn't teach BMS 251. I would take her again 10/10
She is so wonderful! My goodness. She makes it so clear and she doesnt move forward with material until she feels like the class is ready. She makes participating in class fun and easy. Honestly take her if you can shes an AMAZING professor. I would not have gotten and A without her.
3 exams and the final, and exams aren't bad as long as you are prepared. Notes are so clear and to the point. She gives practice questions which are a life saver! Wish she was teaching 251. Would definitely recommend.
I really loved Professor Bourbina. She explains the concepts to you in so many different fashions that you're bound to find at least one that works for you. She keeps the course work interesting and relevant to you while genuinely interacting with the class. She was always kind and helpful at office hours or when I saw her passing by.
Professor Bourbina is hands down the best professor I've had. Anatomy and Physiology are hard no matter what but she makes it much easier on students. I missed class a lot because I have bad depression and anxiety, but I WANTED to go to her lectures. She wants her students to succeed. Posts many supplemental materials. A aren't free, but feasible.
Professor Bourbina is one of the best professors Ive ever had! She has outlined notes and does a really good job explaining things. There are no surprises on exams since she tells you exactly what you need to know. Holds study sessions before each exam and provides practice questions which are super helpful! Take her for 250!
Bourbina is the BEST professor I have ever had! I took her for lab and lecture. She makes you work for your grade, but I promise it is more than worth it! The notes are amazing, her lecture style is phenomenal, and the homework definitely helps strengthen your knowledge. Plus there are practice questions for every exam. TAKE PROFESSOR BOURBINA!!!
Professor Bourbina is probably the best professor Ive ever had. She really cares about you understanding the material and will help you understand everything in different ways. If you go to her office hours she will help you a lot. She gives you notes to fill in during class and they are amazing. Best prof!!
No offense but I felt like a 3-rd grader in her class. She repeats same stuff over and over again like we're preschoolers. Notes are so basic, you can guess all missing info. Thinking is not encouraged in this class, just rote memorization.
She's awesome! This class is a very hard class but honestly she made it a little bit easier and fun. She uses real life examples and makes sure everyone understands. You do have to study a lot for the quizzes and exams but it's honestly not so bad. She is very organized with the notes. And provides extra practice questions that are very helpful.
BMS 250 is a hard class but she makes it interesting and easy to follow. You have to put time into outside of class but she gives fill-in-the-blank outlines for lectures that help a lot with following and studying. She gives 20 point short quizzes halfway through each unit that forces you to keep up on material. Holds review session near exam day.
Take her!!!! Literally the best prof for this course, she provides notes for you to follow along in lecture, her lectures are clear and understandable, gives so much extra study material. The exams really aren't that bad if you go to class and pay attention and put in alittle work. 110% recommend she is amazing.
Second time taking this course and I wish I would've taken it with Bourbina the first time around because she is AMAZING. Truly do not have anything negative to say about her. She provides you with everything you could possibly need to succeed and is so clear on what's expected on exams. Show up to class, study her notes, and you will do well!!
Best teacher I have had at GVSU. She supplies extra study questions and really wants her students to do well. Always helpful and there to answer any questions. For the final she lets us pick what is on it which is very helpful. Hard class and have to put in the work to receive a good grade but she does well with helping you.
Professor Bourbina is absolutely amazing. Her lectures are very clear and well organized, and she also provides outlines for you to fill out during class. She gives you tons of extra materials for studying. She makes a packet of practice questions for each chapter. It is a difficult class but if you do the homework and go to class you will succeed.
One of the best professors I've ever had! Lectures are well organized and deadlines are clear from the start. There's a lot of tests, but she provides practice questions for each chapter. She can tell when students aren't understanding material and is wiling to push the test back, if needed. If you're willing to put in the work, you'll be fine.
Very informative but takes her job to seriously. Should be a professor for a more advance class not a 208 class.
She was a fantastic professor! Anatomy is a difficult class and she gave the materials needed to learn it well. Study way before the test!! Can't do well if you don't study much more than a week in advance. There are tests about every other week and that's pretty much all your grade is based off of. Doesn't post the notes online - must attend class
The nature of anatomy is very material heavy, but she did a great job of breaking it down and tested fairly. She is caring and changed the test dates when she could tell we weren't ready. I studied a LOT and received As on all exams. There is not really extra credit and the tests are 85% of the grade. She gives great test prep materials, use them!!
The exams were not made for a 200 level course. Would not recommend for anatomy. The exams were harder than my organic exams.
Professor Bourbina is amazing! She breaks down all the sections of anatomy and teaches it all very well. You should go to lectures because she gives great information and is very funny. Highly recommend for BMS 208!
Professor Bourbina has been one of the best profs I have had at GVSU. Her lectures are clear and organized and she makes something complex like anatomy make sense. She seems to really understand what it is like to be a student and models her teaching around that. Her tests are fair and she is a very down to earth person.
I took 250 with Bourbina. Absolutely loved her! 10/10 would recommend. The class is based on fill in the blank notes which are super helpful. The only downside is that she doesn't post the notes on her blackboard so you better find a friend to give you notes when you're gone. You don't need a textbook just the online access code for homework.
She is an amazing prof that really cares about her students and puts out a ton of resources for them. Yes her exams are hard but if you use the resources that she provides you should be okay. She is very easy to reach outside of class and it always willing to help. She makes very nice guided notes that make taking notes so much easier!
I love Professor Bourbina. She is very knowledgable of the information and does a great job explaining everything and coming up with pneumonics to help her students learn the info. Her exams are very straight forward and if you study, you'll do fine. I would absolutely recommend taking her!
I loved professor Bourbina, she was very helpful when you asked her questions and made lectures interesting. She gave examples and mnemonics so this were easy to memorize and is very funny. Exams were easy if you studied her notes well. 10/10 would recommend!!
This professor is the best that I've had so far at Grand Valley! She is really good at explaining things in different ways to reach all of her students and also gives some really good study tips and materials that help you be successful in her class! The way that she teaches really prepares you for the exams and for future success!
Prof. Bourbina is an amazing professor for Anatomy and Physiology. Youll have to take a lot of notes but she has fill-in notes so it lessens the work load. Odds are youll need to study everything you went over in one class before the next one or youll forget some important info, so if you dont know how to study, Id learn now
Very funny prof! She teaches the material well. Easy to follow notes with good examples and clear material. This class definitely requires effort for tests, but if you pay attention and do the notes and practice problems, you should do well. While attendance is not mandatory, she gives credit to those who do the Kahoots at the beginning of class.
I am a senior this year and have been through MANY professors. Professor Bourbina is the most amazing professor I have ever had. Effort has to be put in to pass the class, but if your looking for a professor to help you through, she is IT! I have taken many A&P classes and have NEVER gotten such great grades with a very solid understanding. 10/10.
Notes are amazing and she is amazing.
Professor Bourbina was AMAZING!! 100% would take her for every class I could! TAKE HER!! She has powerpoints with notes to go along that exactly follow the PowerPoint and only tests/quizzes on what is on the notes. She is very clear and answers any questions to the best of her ability and has great worksheets (optional) for each chapter!
Her class is more fun than 95% of classes, because she frequently lets students work with classmates in pairs or groups to solve problems. While this is not always productive for learning, it is great for having an excuse to chat and meet new people. She is a respectable, passionate, and encouraging professor who puts effort into her teaching.
Bourbina is a really nice lady and knows what she's talking about. The only downside of her class is that there are 7 exams over the semester. One about every 2 weeks. I feel like she wants you to know way too much info in a short amount of time. The exams are super difficult and take a lot of studying. Homework is 10% of your grade the rest tests.
Amazing professor. Gives clear lectures with lots of in class opportunities to learn the material along with ability to earn extra credit. 11/10 would take her again
Took Bourbina for BMS 208 and loved her so I signed up for her 291 lab. Horrible choice. Absolutely terrible. Posts criteria for lab reports and does not follow them. Can follow directions word by word and still only get half credit. Takes away points for not including information that she never says to include. Rough exams. Take someone else.
While she has easy notes and entertaining lectures, her tests are extremely hard. No matter how much I study and go to her office hours I can't seem to grasp the information.
Prof Bourbina is a great prof. She has great organization for the course, offers extra credit, is clear what she expects, even has checklists and practice questions for each unit. She does a lot of review in class, which is helpful. He exams are TOUGH! Start studying early, cramming WILL NOT work. DO NOT buy book, online code is enough.
She is amazing. BEST anatomy professor at GV. Her tests go along with her powerpoints and her lectures are always interesting.
In lecture, she is wonderful. Prior to tests, I had high hopes for this class. I attended all lectures, did all homework assignments, studied, + material made sense. Test time was a rude awakening: they are next to impossible, and she refuses to answer questions to clarify sometimes wildly confusing questions. If not for lab, I'd have failed.
Bourbina is good at teaching but she made the class extremely difficult. We had 6 exams and a final for the semester and they were very difficult. She made the exams way too difficult for what the class should have been like.
Professor Bourbina is a wonderful professor who truly knows and loves what she is teaching. Take advantage of her office hours and practice questions. That being said, she does have several exams that come up quickly. They are not difficult, but you do have to put in a lot of effort and know the material extremely well.
I had prof Bourbina for BMS 250 and 251 and she is easily one of my favorite professors. Her notes are fill in the blank and easy to follow, she goes into detail about what she's lecturing on and actually cares about her students. Exams aren't too bad but can be tricky with the wording. Overall a great prof to take for A&P!
I had Bourbina for lab. She wasn't clear about what would we were expected to know for our weekly quizzes. Important material would be missing from her PowerPoints, making it difficult to study. However, she is reasonable and understanding. She also made it clear that she was available and willing to help!
amazing lab professor! she does a great job explaining things and is caring and knowledgeable. The class is hard by nature but she makes it as painless as possible.
Bourbina was very helpful with extra help if needed. I respected her a lot. I think most of my downsides to that class were with myself, but Bourbina was so kind and helpful with anything I needed. If you get the opportunity to have her, I suggest you take it.
I HIGHLY recommend Professor Bourbina. I have taken her for both BMS 250 & 251. She genuinely cares about the success of her students. Her lectures and notes are amazing, I'd go as far as to say she is my favorite professor at Grand Valley so far.
Professor Bourbina is a good professor. The class is hard and there are a lot of fine details. She does group projects due after every test. All the quizzes are monitored but the tests are open note. Overall she is a good professor the class is just difficult.
Professor Bourbina by no means a bad professor, but he class is difficult. You have to put in work, she doesn't just hand out good grades. The class is really challenging, but I would still choose to take her over any other BMS 291 prof.
She is such a great professor! BMS 291 is not an easy subject but she is so passionate about it and really cares about her students. She plays music during lab and helps with any question you have in/out of lab. If I could have her as a professor for any of my other classes I would
Prof. Bourbina was amazing. She gave an extra credit opportunity every week which helped a lot. There is a quiz every Monday on what we learned the previous week. Lectures are pre-recorded and you watch it on your own time and then go to class with questions. If you do all of the LearnSmarts then you get to retake any quiz. Highly recommend.
By far the best BMS professor out there! She replies to all emails within 24 hours, which was super nice during the pandemic. Her weekly quizzes are very straightforward. All of her exams are open note, which is a huge advantage for a BMS class. Highly recommend overall.
After losing my previous professor right before an exam, Bourbina took over and taught us two units worth of material simultaneously well enough for us to easily understand and pass both exams with flying colors. She utilizes proven study and teaching methods and really makes everything understandable with a good sense of humor. you want this prof.
By far one of the best profs Ive ever had: clear expectations and has the whole semester of deadlines set up at the beginning of class. She gave us 1 point of extra credit each week for reviewing on zoom with classmates, and 2 other opportunities throughout the semester seeing as anatomy is hard, but she made it SO much easier for us to understand!
She was a decent Professor and she made the homework and notes easy. The quizzes are what get you, they were weekly and 60 points each. She told us not to use the book despite making us buy it and then claimed if we studied the notes we would do fine. I would do everything she suggested before taking and still get a 80-70 on the quiz every time.
prof Bourbina is AMAZING. i struggled with bms 250, and got an A in 251 with her. Her lectures are so easy to comprehend and her fill in notes make everything so nice and organized. she assigns a lot of assignments and gives lots of resources to jam the info into your brain. The midterm and final were open note. with weekly closed note quizzes
She comes across as caring, but in reality she does not respect her students. After everyone failed one of her exams, she had us provide feedback but still refused to change the structure of the exams and class. The exams are nearly impossible and the questions are so confusing. There is no curve and she will not care if the entire class is failing
This was my first class with her and it will be my last. She was confused as to why so many students did very poorly on her exams and would not take any credit for their failures. When I asked for extra credit opportunities or a curve she refused saying it would not benefit us. I study hours on end for this class and a B is what I currently have.
I honestly think professor bourbina is a great professor but her teaching ways are not it for some students. She has weekly quizzes and you can use your notes but it's a timed 15 minute quiz. So that adds on stress and half of the questions were never gone over in class. The chapter exams are hard as well with a lot of worded diff questions.
Extremely frustrating class. Rarely did lectures in class, mostly games and Kahoot which did not help me learn the material. For a class I am paying for, I would've liked to see more teaching in person. We were told to rely on her notes, but they would be missing info that was on exams. Doesn't hand back tests or quizzes. Not my style of learning.
Her explanations of difficult concepts are great , but her method of teaching makes it much harder on the students . It is an anatomy class with a ton of physiology which may or may not be on the test. Her extra credit options is only .5 percent in which you need to do 8 page practice questions along with smart book questions( per Ch)
I do think Bourbina is better than most anatomy professors at GV, but her lecture method is not great for a lot of students. You do the work at home and come to lecture to "apply" it, but she just throws you and groups and makes you figure it out together. You basically have to do all the work yourself with not much help from her.
You would have a quiz or test every week. She did the lectures online and we went to class to apply what we learned in the lecture. You basically had to teach everything yourself. No extra credit or curving.
I felt Professor Bourbina was a great person, but her class itself was very poorly executed. I have NEVER in my life received a grade lower than a B+, and I am fighting to keep a passing grade in this class. She does "flip learning" which is absolutely not teaching, it is a lazy way of getting the information to students. I taught myself. RUN.
This class is made to be hard. Don't take it if you want an easy grade. You'll have to work for it, but she is very knowledgeable and her flipped teaching helped me a lot. Biggest things for her class is to listen carefully, take good notes and don't be afraid to ask questions! Also study more than a day in advance. :) You will learn a lot!
All I'm going to say is she comes off as nice but won't help you if you're sick and can't take the exam, tried to give me an incomplete and told me to take the final next semester b/c I told her I was very sick and couldn't come to class. Exam questions are weird, no opportunity to boost up your grade, no extra credit. Quizzes every week. RUNNNNNNN
BMS208 I have never gotten below a B in my life and I'm borderline failing. She does not care for students learning, just dumps information on you and expects you to understand to her knowledge. The exams are nearly impossible. I would walk out feeling like I did so well and the grade would come back failing. Shes a good person not a good prof.
I do not understand these comments on her rate my professor. If you put in the work you will do well. She makes what you need to know and understand very clear, tests are not difficult if you actually do the work. She used a flipped classroom which means you actually have to work outside of the class period, which some students fail to understand.
A very caring professor but exams are near impossible to do well in. No curving whether majority of the class failed or not. Her notes are extremely helpful but you need to know every single fact in her packet of notes to do well on exams.
Most importantly, she does not respect her students, and any time you reach out to her for help she is extremely rude. She will never admit to mistakes and has spelled "teeth" wrong before without acknowledging it. She expects you to spend 3 hours a week in lecture learning absolutely nothing and the same amount simply watching her videos.
Professor Bourbina is an amazing professor. She cares about her students and gives them all of the tools and tips needed for success. All of her exam material comes straight from the notes, no tricks. If you put into the work and study in advance (not the day before) you will do great.
I cannot say that she was the worst professor I have ever had, but the setup of her class is not helpful what so ever. I never missed a class period, but still ended with a B- in the class because class was not helpful what so ever. We just did dumb group things that did not help, if anything they confused us more. She has no respect for students.
Bourbina was a really great professor. Anatomy is going to be hard no matter what but she really does her best to give students as much material as possible to succeed. rounds your grade if you do the practice questions throughout the semester, so make sure to do those as they also help you on the open note quizzes each week. Effortsuccess w her
Take her for A+P!!! She really helps you learn the material
Do not take this professor. I have her for lab and I am not doing so hot. Your lab will be based pretty much 85% on your quiz /exam scores if not more. If you’re not good at taking stuff and studying DO NOT TAKE HER. she also does not teach material and expects you to learn it yourself. Do yourself a favor and pass her as your teacher.
Bourbina was great! She was super enthusiastic and funny. She did a lot of group review games at the end of each lab. I thought she did a great job thoroughly teaching us what was on the quizzes. However, sometimes you had to ask specific questions to get all the answers for the learning objectives.
I had her for lab and she was not helpful at all. Assignments were all expected to be done before lab, during class we did basically nothing. She was not around to ask questions really so I was stuck guessing most of the time. Tests were difficult with no curve or slack. Did not tell you her expectations at all and had zero structure set up.
This is by far the best professor I have had. Her classes are flipped so lectures are spent on topics the students ay have struggled with. There are weekly quizzes which sucked a bit. I loved her, she was super kind and caring and teaches very well while offering great advice and study tips. My grade was only lower due to my lab.
Sucks. Unless you want to teach yourself everything, do not take her. Does a flip classroom style and you only study in the class hours. Bad at communication and expects you to know everything after one day of work
literally dont be fooled by her 4.3 rating. she is awful. not helpful at all, you have to learn everything on your own because she doesnt believe in lecturing during class time. after one lab youre expected to know everything as like we dont have other courses. awful. take tiernan instead.
Professor Bourbina is an amazing lecture professor. Anatomy is not an easy class but she made it very easy to understand. She had lots of reviews and lots of office hours to look over old quizzes and exams. I would highly suggest taking her.
This professor was completely awful. No room to build your grade because of little assignments. The things that we did in lecture did not help because this professor chose to do activity/group based lectures which meant working in groups for the whole hour without actual learning. Whole class would fail quizzes and exams and she did not care.
Professor Bourbina was pretty good. She is very nice and funny, but I felt like sometimes she rushed through the lectures in lab which made it hard to learn sometimes. She makes you stay the full 1 hour and 50 minutes of lab, but the review games and activities in lab were fun and helpful.
VERY content-heavy class, if you don't come to class you'll fail BMS 208. The class is very exam heavily graded as there are exams every 2 weeks about the content. Professor Bourbina cares about her students and has a very good layout with ALOT of resources to help you study. Expect to study at least 5+ hours a week. Youll do good if works put in.
Take Bourbina!! She does her lectures through videos online so you can go at your own pace and take good notes. Tests are hard and a lot of studying is required but all of the content is really interesting. Prepare to spend 5-8 hours a week on this class.
One of my favorite profs! She genuinely cares about her students and you can tell the lecture notes, videos, and activities she puts a lot of thought into to make sure it is the most useful for students. Shes always willing to take class suggestions or go over concepts the class may be struggling with. If you have the chance to take her do it!!
This professor is AMAZING. She really cares about her students and wants everybody to do good. The material can be very difficult but if you study and get help its not bad at all.
The material was a bit tricky but she gives a lot of optional practice assignments to help you learn. She cares about her students and wants them to succeed.
Attendance wasn't mandatory, but her lectures were very beneficial. We took weekly quizzes that were open notes. Provided great study sets. Exams and APR weren't difficult if you studied. Her pace was kind of fast, so make sure you stay caught up. All in all, she's very kind and helpful with the material and explains things very well.
If you like to teach yourself, take this class. Super nice as a person but an extremely hard class for no reason.
She does not teach anything in class and you have to teach yourself everything prior to going to class on monday. We do activities in class to build our understanding of the content, but that means you have to already understand the information. She is a nice lady but the class and her exams are unnecessarily difficult.
VERY disappointed in this professor. Don't trust the ratings on here like I did. Tests were ridiculously difficult and I'm usually a good test taker so take it from me when I say these exams were near impossible. I had Groves for lab and would recommend him for lecture over her any day. If you even want a shot at doing well, pick a different prof.
She didn't teach anything during our lab time. All lecture videos were assigned for outside of class along with any homework. She expects her students to come to class already knowing the material so we could play "review games". Her exams and quizzes are hard.
She uses a flipped classroom approach, which entails spending in-class time on activities such as mindmaps or games. Consider whether this teaching method aligns with your preferred learning style, as it may not be suitable for everyone. Also, it is worth noting that quizzes and tests are hard and include MC questions with 8+ answer options.
It is anatomy so there will be a lot of content, but she cares about what she teaches and she cares about you learning it. She's available all the time to help you; it is a class you need to put work into but in my opinion she's the best prof to take for this class.
Professor Bourbina does a flipped classroom meaning all of the lecture videos are posted online. Her videos are short (5-10 minutes) and she gives you notes to fill out every week. Exams are usually every 2 weeks. Professor Bourbina is very passionate about teaching Anatomy and is always there for help if you need it!
She is a great person and is passionate about teaching. She does a flipped classroom, so the lectures were all online and she did activities and went over things in class. The day that she did activites is not a help to me, but she makes good concept maps. Quiz each week, but taken with the people around you. Memorization will not get you through.
By far the worst professor I have had. She dose not care about anything. Barley uses class time to teach her students, everything is on you. Dose not respond to emails. Quizzes are extremely hard, memorizing will not help you. Don't take her for anatomy lab. I would stay away.
Bourbina is AMAZING! She is so nice and willing to help all the time. She knows her stuff and is so smart. The class is very difficult and you have to put in a lot outside of class to succeed. If you utilize everything and go to class you will do well. One of my favorite profs so far
Prof. Bourbina is a great choice for BMS251LAB. Clear instructions for each lab, weekly quizzes at the start of lab followed by in class group participation on next weeks content through use of models and powerpoints. She is very smart and knows her content well, very accessible and easy to follow along with in class. I would 100% recommend!!
Lectures are posted online so you can follow along at your own pace. Her exams are exactly like the lectures, they aren't worded differently. Class time is dedicated to group work and reviewing content. She is a caring professor and is good at what she teaches. Highly recommend.
Probably the best professor I have ever had. She cares a lot about what she teaches and is very passionate. It is a tough class no matter what, but she makes it seem a lot less daunting. There are so many practice assignments and helpful resources she provides during the week, that it makes it super easy to learn/ memorize the content for quizzes.
Best professor I've had so far. She does a flipped classroom where you watch her lectures beforehand and then do active learning in class. Truly cares about her students and would take again a billion more times.
Professor Bourbina is the best! She uses a "flipped classroom" style so attendance is only mandatory on quiz and test days but it is incredibly helpful to show up to every class period because she always talks through any confusing topics if you just ask. She's very passionate about her work. It goes a long way just doing the work.
Great Professor. She was caring and knowledgable. The skeleton notes and online lectures were fantastic and very well organized. Plan on doing quite a bit of studying if you want an A. Overall, I enjoyed this class and would definitely recommend Professor Bourbina.
Had her for a hybrid class (half online and half in person) and she does a flipped classroom style. Meaning you watch her lecture videos online and use the information you watch and study at home inside the classroom. She wants you to succeed and has her own Spotify podcast and YouTube channel explaining content.
very helpful especially when asked questions
She is a fantastic professor, her teaching style isn't for everyone but I loved it. She cares about her students succeeding and is very willing to help. The exams are not hard you just need to study the notes well. There are a lot of in class activities that help you learn the content well. Take her if you can, seriously best prof at GV.
I absolutely LOVE prof Bourbina. She has a flipped style classroom so you will have to do work before each week, but it is really helpful. All the work that is given is something that helps us learn. There are weekly quizzes but you do 10 min individual and 10 min with your group so it is not bad at all. She gives great study material TAKE HER!!
Bourbina's class is challenging but manageable with dedication. The flipped classroom can be hit or miss, but she's genuinely helpful. Utilize unstuck ai and other resources to stay on top of the material.
Bourbina was absolutely amazing! You can tell she deeply cares about her students success and is very accessible outside of class. The course is HARD, do not get me wrong, but she gives you every resource you need to succeed. She does a flipped classroom where you watch the lectures outside of class and do activities/go over things during class.
Bourbina is by far one of my favorite professors that I've had at Grand Valley. I was intimidated by this course, but she does an amazing job of setting you up for success in lecture. It is a flipped classroom style, and she provides you with an abundance of material so you can quiz yourself and feel prepared for the tests. Take her!
Professor Bourbina is one of the hardest professors at GV. I had her for both BMS 250 + 251. She will go out of her way to help you. She uses a flipped classroom which allows you to listen to her lectures at your own speed which was beneficial to me. She makes it very hard to fail her class because of all her resources she provides.
Prof. Bourbina does really care about her students. Her class is "flipped" so be ready to come to class every week with notes already taken. It took me a good month to get used to this style. There are weekly quizzes and 3 exams (not counting the final), all multiple choice and t/f questions. Although she does try to trick you on questions.
Bourbina taught my A&P II lecture a few years back and how she went about teaching still haunts me to this day. She has a flipped classroom style that requires you to be on top of all of the lecture material yourself and hope to god that you do well on the multiple tests/quizzes throughout the week. Commuters and employed students be warned.. tears
She was absolutely incredible. It was a flipped classroom format, and it personally worked really well for me. There were quizzes every Friday but they are done in your table groups! The material itself is complex, but she made it so enjoyable. She is so incredibly intelligent and really cares for her students. Utilize the resources she provides!!
I fell behind before the first day of class had even happened. You do all of the notes and lecturing yourself with materials she posted which did NOT work for my brain. Assignments were due on weird dates right before class instead of 11:59 on Sunday. This being said she is an amazing lady and class time was so fun. I'd retry, but be more prepared.
Very helpful and effective at teaching. Offers plenty of extra help and resources for studying if needed. Actually cared about students doing well. Difficult class but she made it very clear/organized, even took the time to learn all 100 something peoples names. Exams are tough but exactly like the notes that she gives you, very straightforward
Test are extremely hard and you have to do a lot of work to keep up with this class.
Watch lectures before class/complete homework, then do activities to further learn the material in class. Super funny teacher, very understanding and willing to work with you. Anatomy is a really hard class & you need to study a lot, but she makes it easier to understand. Also offers an exam retake.
If you are on the fence about a flipped learning class, DO NOT DO IT. Prof Bourbina loves to say that majority of students love it, but I am the minority. I cannot do flipped learning. I am not a good enough teacher to teach myself anatomy. We do in class quiz prep, but it feels like prepping to get a passing grade, not solidifying knowledge.
Best professor I've had. Does a flipped class, and she's very good for visual learners. Seems like a lot of work but if you use the materials she provides you can be very successful. Things I learned actually stuck. Weekly quizzes are checked with your group and final was not difficult. Extra credit was available. Understanding to personal issues.
I understand that she wants to challenge people beyond rote-memorization, but the way she does it is sloppy. For example, she'll ask overly broad questions expecting specific answers that aren't very clear by the wording forcing you to put yourself in her head and predict what she is referring to. The intention is good, the execution is not.
Loves the trick questions on exams so beware of that. Messy in that her homework and tests would be riddled with typos and she put out answer keys with wrong answers on them, no joke. She just seems scatter-brained, but then is unnecessarily tough with her confusing exam questions and grading.
This class was the hardest class i've ever taken. All of the content you have to teach yourself and there's 3 quizzes ,1 exam, and homework all in one week, every SINGLE week. If you take this class you won't even have a social life, it's the most draining class i've ever taken. never again. (BIO140 delta college)
She writes extremely hard exams; I had friends in the same class with a different teacher that confirmed this. You can study all week and still not get an A on her exams. You are expected to teach yourself ALL lecture material outside of class and she only does review games in class. Hardest professor I've ever had.
