very boring class, not engaging at all. Lots of reading, and more homework than some other instructors.
good instructor-better than most!
She is an amazing professor who is always willing to explain the material.
Exams are either 5 questions or take home. Final was take home. Assignments are easy. Go to class b/c she likes to give participation points. Super easy class take it if you need to boost your GPA. We watched a lot of movies (When Harry Met Sally, What About Bob, etc).
I went to the class 1/4 of the time and got an A. Every test was take home. Take notes on the videos you watch. There will be questions on the final! She does her job well!
An excellent adjunct faculty member who knows her stuff when it comes to theories of development and her committment to helping aspiring mental health professionals internalize the awareness of lifespan process' importance in how we see through the worldview of the Other. A damn fine teacher even if most thought her obscure.
Joke of a class, so easy
wonderful person. a very easy class. all take home tests. yet the class was interesting.
Excellent teacher
Very understanding teacher, if you have a problem and talk with her about it she will help you no matter what. Very easy to get a good grade as well.
Very reasonable with your schedule outside of school, willing to comprimise with you if you put in the effort and show you are interested in the field and not just looking for a grade.
Disregard previous comments; tests are NOT take home, nor are they 5 questions...she must have caught on. Tests are 10-15 questions and are not easy. She is helpful and understanding, and the researcher paper is graded loosely. Final is all given to you word for word. Easy class, but be prepared for the 1st test and midterm exam. A+ teacher
Don't buy the book, you wont need it. Class is very boring and extremely easy to pass.
lectures are horribly dry and the material is highly intuitive. ended up dropping the class.
Probably the worst teacher I've ever had. The lectures were beyond boring, here test answers differed from what the books said, and she quite frequently changed the syllabus. It is such a mindnumbingly easy class it's difficult to keep on top of the work. I ended up dropping it midsemester.
Professor Brougham is a great teacher overall...she is tough, but fair. She is funny and really tries to help us. She knows her stuff and has good classes. I have taken 232 and 331 and enjoyed both. I definitely recommend her! She's cool.
This class was so easy as long as you keep up on your assignments and attend class. If you are a nursing major and looking for an A...this is the teacher to take.
Definitely an easy class, super boring though. I highly recommend not taking it at night or once a week. It makes the work load much harder to keep up with. Unclear at times, but midterm is easy and other assignments are an easy A. Overall the class is super easy and pretty straightforward. She makes you read a lot too, so keep up on that too.
I took this class online and only used the book on test days. She is a nice teacher and assigns easy assignments, but there were only 100 points for the entire class. She uses a lot of run on sentences and is very unclear with instructions.
Brougham is extremely nice and more than willing to help you with things if you need it. However, lectures aren't exactly structured, and many times it doesn't seem like there's a certain outline she's following. Points that should be known aren't always 100% clear either. Total points are only 100-which makes every little thing extremely crucial.
Online course. Used textbook for midterm and final. 100pts: midterm, final, 1quiz, and 1'project' (that term used VERY loosely). Class was ridiculously easy, but I didn't learn anything. If an easy A is your goal, this is perfect. If FS&HD is your major and you want to learn this stuff, maybe think twice.
Jennifer is a sweetheart but I'm afraid she has caught onto her leanient reputation. I received A's in some very tough classes last semester, but got a low B in this "easy" elective one. It could be her TA, but man I was nickled and dimed for points on assignments I worked really hard on -- which sucks when there are only 100 points total.
She is a really nice teacher and willing to help out but she does not really make clear of you what is expected in the class. The worst part of the class was it was only out of 100 points total-so easy to mess up an A. The material covered is really interesting and topics were what made this class so great!
boring class+boring professor=waste of time. she has 100 points for semester and her tests are bad worded. Shows videos then asks dumb questions about videos. The material is all common sense but everything is part of a theory. have to remember names and dumb theories. Big waste of time still got a B in the class without really trying.
Jennifer is one of the most conscientious professors I have had. She truly cares about her students and their success. She is an interesting lecturer and I love the way she ties community awareness and participation/service into her course content. She gives all shes got, both at school and to our community.
Jennifer is extremely caring and understanding. Her class is very easy to attain an A as long as you do the study guides and complete the easy assignments. I have taken 4 courses with her now and have enjoyed all of them. I highly reccomend her!
She's very particular with how she wants assignments done, yet is not very clear about what the included information should entail. There was a huge descrepency on one of my papers and she wasn't helpful or understanding to me. My interest in the class declined after this and the rest of the semester was stressful, and respecting her was difficult.
It is remarkable that a person with English skills as poor as Prof. Brougham could ever become a professor. Her assignments were completely incomprehensible, yet she demanded that students complete graduate level work. This is fine, but it would be great if the prof. was able to write a simple sentence. This class was useless.
Absolutely the worst teacher I have ever had.
horrible and boring
It would be a good class if this professor respected her students. Instead she talks down to us like we're kindergartners and monitors us while we watch movies in her class. She acts like we didn't even go through middle or high school and explains things we would definitely know being that we are in college. I really don't like her at all.
If you are looking for structure this is not the class for you. At midterm we have about 3 changes to the syllabus and only 1 indication that the syllabus was changed. Even though we were required to read the syllabus and take a quiz on it there have been 2 changes made without any notification that a change was made and what the change was. I
Her class is not hard, but difficult to sit through. She is very sarcastic and speaks down to her students. I used to be interested in Sociology but after taking her class, my interest has declined. Avoid taking her class if you can.
She is a nice lady but the way she grades and the point system makes it hard to do well. No need to go to class, nothing useful is said. Avoid taking the class with her if you can
She is useless... I don't recommend her or her class to anyone.
It's a good idea to take Human Development with Brougham. She is really helpful and the class is pretty easy. If you do the work you'll get an A for sure.
You will not learn anything from her lectures. Everything about sociology ive learned came from the book. Her class isnt designed to teach you about sociology, but to fail you. Her tests arent really about the material, just on the stupid movies and guest speakers she has. Transfer out of her class asap its not worth the hassle.
This teacher is great if you like lectures and love when a teacher talks in monotone into a mic that she holds 2 inches from her face. She is very boring and the only way to do decently well is to go to class and get the extra few points. She throws out extra credit yet she makes it so not worth your while. Write a 5 page paper for 5 points.
The worst teacher that is even concievable. I would rather watch grass grow than sit through her lectures. Her class is extremely difficult due to the fact that she doesn't teach anything in her class, so you have to look it all up in the book. Worst teacher EVER. Drop out of school before you take this class. My interest in SOC=0 after this.
Semi-easy class. She is a very understanding teacher as long as you contact he with any concerns. She is not a good teacher and very obnoxious. I wouldn't recommend her.
If you want to like your professor, don't take this class. If you want to get a good grade, take this class. She speaks really slowly and treats you like you're a child, but the tests and quizzes aren't too hard. She gives a lot of extra credit toward the end of the semester so that helps.
If you want an easy A, take the class. If you want to learn anything useful, don't take it. Very unorganized, and disrespectful.
An easy class. It's VERY important to study the study guides, they're the same questions that will be on the tests. You'll use the book when writing all your papers. Going to class is useless, just show up to take tests and turn in assignments, and watch the videos. She was pretty nice but her TA, Nathan, was extremely rude and disrespectful.
She was a horrible professor. The instructions to her pointless assignments were always written with third-grade writing skills which made it IMPOSSIBLE to take anything seriously. I didn't learn anything. And she's pretty full of herself...so was her rude and disrespectful TA.
most awful teacher I have ever had. First off, she is annoying to listen to and boring for that matter. She repeats herself incessantly and acts like we do not know what it was like to be in adolescence. She even misuses adolescent and adolescence in her slides. She thinks that her class is a hybrid class and has the midterm and final online.
I had this class online and I loved the class and the teacher. She was always helpful to me if I had a question and the actual class was really easy. I also took her FAS 331 online and liked that one too! :)
This class is very interesting and is very convenient. Everything is due by the last couple weeks of the semester and nothing is too hard or laborious. I was a late add, and prof. Brougham was more than helpful in assisting with that process.
I really hated her class and her! She treats the class like 5 year olds and is really really boring. She does not teach AT ALL and you are expected to read the entire book to pass the final and midterm. There was no point in going to class because it was all group presentations that are not on any tests. I don't recommend if you want to learn.
I took this class online and thoroughly enjoyed the learning experience. Extra credit was offered, and the professor really made you work to earn the grade. As long as the instructions are followed exactly, you won't have any problems.
I took this course online. There was a lot of reading for this course: 3 books total. I liked that the the professor and her TA were very responsive, and communicated frequently with students. I didn't like that the course seemed a bit unorganized (e.g., syllabus, study materials, etc.). Overall, it was an okay course, and an A is achievable.
It was my understanding that we pay for lectures to be lectured. This professor NEVER lectures. There are many videos, in which responses must be typed and submitted. A paper is due on a novel. The groups for the projects are HUGE. The final and midterm are terrible difficult. You can get an A, but you'll hate the class. Needs to actually TEACH!
I took child development with Prof Brougham. Her lectures are hard to listen to and not really relevant to the tests and quizzes. I attended most classes, and got an A+ without trying very hard. I would suggest her for CDE 232 and SOC 315
Not a great professor, boring and monotone. She has tons of writing assignments that aren't clear. A 400 page novel has to be read with a 10 page report which she gives a measely 50 points for. Be prepared for busy work, to read the textbook for her exams. She doesn't lecture, instead forms groups in the class to present the material. AWFUL!
The class was very frustrating. The tests were easy as they seemed to be pulled from the textbook company. But the writing assignments are unclear and it is difficult to find material for them since a lot of the assignments don't even concern the book, so the information wasn't even available. Class needs a lot of work.
Worst professor ever. She made a boring class HELL. She takes common sense and flips it. Her snide remarks are annoying and shes is an entire waste of time. Like all 100 level classes do well on the first assignment or you are screwed. Answers are right out of the book!
Wonderful teacher! Challenging class but extremely interesting!
Exceptional teacher! Class was challenging but extremely interesting!
3 papers which are 3-5 pages each (easy). 3 tests which are 75 questions over 5 chapters each. Watch three movies and post DB about them. I took this as an elective and it sucked! Boring. If you are unorganized like me and wait till the last minute dont take! It can be easy IF you put the time in. Not a easy A class by any means.
Took this class online because I wanted flexibility. Couldn't finish a quiz before her deadline for reasons far beyond my control and she didn't care. Always refers emails to TAs. Don't understand why someone who doesn't give a **** would choose to teach. Should have just taken it in person with someone else.
The only way to get this professor to POSSIBLY straighten up her act is to stop signing up for classes taught by her. She is NOT helpful, does not care about her students at all and (as mentioned by other students) makes snide comments as if she is the be-all and end-all of the world. Granted I had her for an online class which had almost 500 kids.
I would not recommend her. She does not care about her students and does not want to do any work as a professor. She didn't even write any of the exams. She also makes inappropriate comments and jumps to conclusions. I would take any class possible with a different teacher vs. signing up for a class with her.
This class requires allot of writing, but she is very lax with the grading. More interested in reading what you have to say then how you say it. The class is fair and interesting. I am very pleased with this professor. You can tell she likes what she does. She tries to be as helpful as she can, especially during /midterm and finals week.
Before I begin, let me say I give everyone a chance, and I have liked the majority of my instructors. I can easily say she was one of the worst professors I have ever had and was the reason I changed my major. She was simultaneously criminally soporific and sanctimonious. She treats her students like children, and I gained nothing from the course.
Granted, I took this class online, but this is the second online class I've had with Brougham and she has been very helpful, nice, and clear both times. She helped me a ton with my essay and even offered to grade it early. The flexibility in her classes is amazing. You have weeks/months to do most assignments which I find extremely helpful.
She has the exams up from the start of the semester, if you don't do them by the deadline that's your fault. Get them done early and you don't have to worry about it. 4 tries at the tests, answers word for word from the book. Extremely easy grading the papers. I don't know what everyone's complaining about- it's my easiest class yet.
Took online. Helpful teacher, sends out reminders. 4 exams, 1 quiz, and 1 writing assignment. Opens tests at beginning of semester so you can submit them early, really no excuse to miss anything. Buy the book you need it for the tests. Do the work you get a good grade and she's a good teacher!
Professor Brougham is great! I took this class in 5 weeks online over the summer. The class consisted of 2 short papers, a discussion board, and it had 3 quizzes. Exams were semi-hard, but you get to use the textbook. Make sure to include all information on the written assignments. I forgot to attach my reference sheet and was docked 15 points.
I took her class online, her TA's really did all the posting but they were up on keeping you updated on any changes. 1 major paper, pretty interesting, got 100%. about 5 tests, 3 on the book, 1 on movies, and 1 on a novel you must read. found out im not cut out for marriage and courtship tho! ;-) hehe
This class is an easy A! You have 4 exams and 4 attempts to take it. Dont go to lecture, she doesnt even lecture on whats on the exams. Its a WASTE of time! She was very nice, but strict on her syllabus. It was like an online class, but it was in person. You basically had to teach yourself. If you want an easy A, take her & this class!
I like professor Brougham, she is fair in grading and clear with assignments. If you don't like reading, then you might not want to take her. The test are %100 based on text book reading. Good news is that this particular text was interesting! The test questions were also clear and easy if you read. I got a -B in the class and I read %50.
Great Professor! I took her online course very clear and responds to e-mails quickly. However, she grades HARD make sure you read the textbook and notes intensly before taking the exam! For the paper nothing is good enough.
Professor Brougham keeps you busy throughout the whole semester. There's always something due at least once a week. She's not the best teacher I've had, but I've already had 3 classes with her. She can be boring, but this is an easy A if you complete all the assignments.
I love the layout of her online courses. She gives you all the material you need the first day of class for the entire semester and you can work at your own pace- however there are deadlines. I took this class with her in the spring and had it finished by spring break.
I hate this class. Boring lectures, watches movies that pertain to the course but don't help on the tests at all... the power points are WORD FOR WORD from the book and you can take all the tests at the beginning of the year if you wanted, but you have to go to class cause she has random in-class assignments. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH HER.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS IN PERSON. i know that there is an online version which is pretty easy, but i took it in person and it was the only class this semester i actually dreaded going to (and i'm an accounting major). lectures are mostly guest speakers who have nothing to do with human sexuality and you will probably not learn one thing at all.
Great instructor! Missed 5 gradepoints the entire semster earned an A+. Paper is clearly mapped out - follow the guidelines and get a perfect score. Tests are straight from the material - word for word! Highly recommend this class
This was the worst professor I've ever had. The class material would have been fun and easy to understand but with her teaching methods you would be better off taking it online. All the tests and papers are due online anyways. She was never there, NEVER taught a real lecture. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH HER!
Great class to take online. However, you must be self disciplined in your readings. There are very few assignments due but they require some investment in time and research (6-8 pg. papers). The tests can be difficult but if you do the readings this class will be an easy A. Material is quite interesting & you'll learn a lot. I recommend this class.
If you're looking for a GPA-booster, take this class. She's an easy grader and there's not too much work to do -- a few in-class writings, a poster, and online tests and quizzes make up the whole grade. The class itself is boring and, if it wasn't for surprise in-class writings, there's wouldn't be any reason to go.
She's a very nice person and her assignments are clear and understandable; however, this class has 3 exams which are timed and consist of 75 questions pulled out of 7 to 8 chapters of our lecture book... it can get a bit challenging. I would recommend this professor but make sure and prepare yourself for the exams.
Mrs. Brougham was not good at communication. She claimed that in order to do well in the class, communication was key but she was horrible at it. The test are hard. The class is low maintenance and that's the only good thing about the class.
Class was clear, and tests were not hard, mostly right out of the book,
Great Class and super easy if you put forth the effort with discussion posts and knowing the book material for exams. The 1 assignment for the course was also very easy but I suggest looking into the assignment long before it is due so you have an idea of what is expected.
TERRIBLE TEACHER. Take it online with a different professor. This is the worst professor I've ever taken and I recommend her to no one. Not clear about anything and random in-class assignments. I promise you will regret taking her class.... I was let down due to my level of interest in this course prior to taking it with her.
Worst teacher I have ever had! Class never had anything to do with any assignments. Had guest speakers come that also weren't related to material. She doesn't TEACH YOU ANYTHING. All tests are online that are from the author. You also have to read and watch movies outside of class. I dread having to go to this class and I enjoy the topics!
I never rate my professors but I had to for this "professor". I am sorry to say but this is the worst professor I have ever had. You have to go to class and listen to her ramble on. Nothing she talks about is on the test. Someone else made the test. Advice is go to class, tone her out and just read the book. Better advice, don't take her!
Instructor had NO presence in this class. All online Discussion Board posts, tests and a small paper. In addition, she required volunteer work. What's up with that? Also, required you to by a separate book that was only peripherally related to the topic. Tests were so easy. Didn't need to read to find answers in book. Don't take it!
Great professor! Some students think that the guest speakers and other assignments are not related to the course but it was made very clear from the beginning that the test was strictly from the text. Through lecture, she really applies the concepts that we are supposed to read about. Easy course if you take the time to do the work!!!
By far THE WORST teacher I've had so far at ASU. I've had my fair share bad teachers, but Jennifer takes the cake. She changed the syllabus without telling us MANY times & would not take credit for them. I don't like blaming teachers, but everything wrong with this class was her fault. She is the most rude & condescending person I've ever met.
Her lectures are very boring, I never showed up. The tests are easy and open book. Easy A, but not worth it to sit through her boring lectures. Make sure you know somebody who goes though because her last projectassignment is on random stuff she talks about in her classes.
I literally barely went to her class because it is so pointless and boring. All the tests are online and open book so there should be no problem getting an A. It's an easy class, but if you actually want to learn something and get something out of your college tuition, take a different teacher.
Super easy 8 week course. 1 discussion board with 2 responses every friday and a 20 question exam due every friday as well. Exams come straight from the text you dont use her lectures at all. Write the post, reply and get the exams done you'll get an A!
TOTAL DISRESPECT for students: Brougham chastises & uses our grades as blackmail for us to pay attention to her meaningless "Extra Credit" information, which essentially consisted of facts about her grandchildren's favorite colors, pets' names, etc. She is a poor representation of ASU's learning standards. Self-congratulatory, elementary & rude.
Professor Brougham's SOC 101 class was harder than most of my friends SOC101 classes they were taking at the same time as me... You MUST read the chapters to pass the test because the questions are mostly application, you cannot look up answers on the internet-even though she does allow you to use any resources you want when taking the test :)
I thought this class was an easy A just because of SOC 101 classes that my friends have taken, but it definitely isn't. You need to read the book and go to class to get an A. She gives out a good amount of extra credit which helps. Overall she is a very nice lady and a good teacher, just a little tougher than expected
Class not mandatory, but I'd recommend it if you want extra credit aka an A. She may seem condescending at times, but she's there for you as long as you meet her specific expectations as listed in her syllabus. No class on exam days (textbooks are critical to passing). Her lectures can be a bit slow-paced and seem like common knowledge at times.
Brougham has the teaching philosophy of "It is my job to say it, your job to learn it." This should seem obvious but the point is that she isn't going out of her way to make sure you understand the material. In order to emphasize this, in all of her classes (not just SOC 101), her lectures do not pertain to the tests at all. I don't recommend her.
First time rating a professor and for her I am sorry to say but she is the worst I have ever had. I have taken a few of her classes and every class I regret it. She is tough on grading, rude about communication, and unrealistic with assignments, her 'teaching' technique is poor. Her online class grading is mostly all or nothing.
WORST TEACHER IVE EVER HAD! She is rude!!!!! She never taught anything. She relies on her guest speakers and movies to do the teaching. The movies are a waste of time and so is her class in my opinion. She won't help you with questions. She'll just tell you to refer to the syllabus instead of answering a 2 second question. Avoid her class!!
Professor Brougham is an old school, take no nonsense kind of woman and is firm, but fair. Simply show up to class, take notes, and complete your assignments on time, and you'll be fine. All exams are online, therefore they're essentially open book. Exams are based right out of the book, not class lectures. It's a pretty easy A.
Follow her directions and syllabus and you will do fine. That's all you need to know. She loves communicating with students so don't be shy.
You will spend A LOT of time reading! Requirements for assignments were unclear as she posted different instructions in the syllabus and on the course page. Question board for the course was ignored completely. You can pass it, and do well, if you can sort through the confusing directions for assignments and are highly independent.
Her lectures are long, boring, and near impossible to stay awake in. Takes her 30 minutes to get through one slide so you don't get through material. People give up and leave part way through and she gets mad but doesn't take the feedback. Had to read the textbook and take detailed notes over it to do well. She ruins an interesting subject.
You have a test every week and she gets upset about no one showing up to her lectures, so she stops posting things online. The only thing you have to do for this class is buy the online version of the book, it'll make the test 100x easier, as you can just search for the answers. You cant use a laptop for notes, not that you take any.
Don't even bother asking her a question, she will just go straight into lecturing and won't even answer whatever you asked. She takes forever on her slides, and she always veers off course with whatever she was saying. She takes days to get back to you through email and will blame everything on your "faulty" Wi-Fi. Definitely use the book.
Don't even bother going to class lol. Her lectures are quite boring and i have learned nothing from this class. HOwever, she seems really nice though
DO NOT TAKE THIS COURSE WITH HER! There are only 3 exams throughout the semester, which may sound nice, but it is absolutely horrible! Each exam covered about 8 chapters each, which was ridiculous. The discussion boards are simple and easy, but the exams will mess you up. Each exam has 75 questions that are VERY specific. DONT DO IT.
Don't bother going to any of her lectures as they're pointless. If you want a class that won't teach you anything, this is it. All you have to do is read + highlight the text book (you get to use it on tests which are multiple choice and you get two attempts). Easiest "A" you'll ever get in college.
She's a great person who cares about her students. She doesn't mind helping as long as you ask.
Her class is extremely boring and you don't learn hardly anything going to the lectures. 10% of the class actually show up each day because it is pointless to even show up. The tests are easy if you have the book and a lot of the answers are on Quizlet anyways.
The exams are easy but tedious. The worst part is she grades the DB "all-or-nothing". I don't think that's fair at all. The DB are required 3+ paragraphs and 150+ words for response. I cited other sources, but didn't cite the textbook because I didn't use anything from the text book. So now my grade is a letter lower because I lost 30 pts.
Easiest class I've taken at ASU. Went to the first class and that was it. All the tests are online and you get 2 attempts.
She purposely chose a 7:30 am class because she is a morning person. So annoying since I live an hour away. Class is easy. We do nothing important in class you can fall asleep. Tests aren't too hard since you can use the textbook. She annoys me but I have an A so its whatever.
This class is the easiest I've ever taken - including high school. Dr. Brougham is a sweetheart, but she doesn't lecture on very much of the exam material. Nevertheless, it doesn't matter because all exams are online, open note/book, basically not timed because it doesn't take 2 hours, and you can take them twice. Very easy A.
Easy class, but learned little. The prof. did not lecture on anything graded so I stopped going to class a few weeks in. Exams are at home, open book, double take, EZ points so not hard to get an A. Just don't expect to learn much except from the textbook.
Tbh she should be teaching middle school. You learn nothing. She has a HORRIBLE attitude. She wants to see people fail. I once emailed her with a question and got the rudest response. I clarified and she realized she was in the wrong. Please don't take her.
M Brougham and Jennifer Brougham are the same professor. This is a super easy A. You do not have to go to lecture at all, participation is 5/400 points. Test can all be found in google. She seems nice. Test do not have lockdown browser but they are not announced so look at syllabus. You can make up one missed exam. I never read the a single chapter
This professor tells students not to email her and gets extremely defensive when you ask for clarification on an assignment. Her voice is extremely annoying and beware of her saying "sociological lens" every 5 words. The tests are online and open book making them really easy. There are a few DBs. I'd honestly just put up with her for the easy A.
Easy class, attendance isn't mandatory. All tests are online and based on the book rather than the lectures, and answers are easy to find. Just do the tests and complete the discussion boards (grade is given for completion only) and you will do great. Took a MWF class but she cancelled all Friday classes. Boring lectures but you never have to go.
Took SOC101 with her and it was super easy, all tests online, only had to complete a few discussion boards for participation. She does give 5 points for participation randomly throughout the semester, I was only there for one of the 5 points, still an easy A.
I loved Professor Brougham. She is such a cute little old lady. The class is extremely easy. All the test answers are online and the DB's are all pretty straight forward. Attendance is not mandatory, but the last DB is only questions about guest speakers.
Overall her class isn't bad. 8 exams, all MC and the info comes from the text book and in class lectures. Her PP are on BB, but she tends to mention a lot of stuff not on the PP, so it's worth showing up to class. Also, the final exam is mostly questions about guest speakers, so make sure you attend on those days or you'll be screwed for the final.
One textbook and an extra novel are required, so quite a bit of reading. There are tests just about every two weeks, and if you study the study guides, they're easy. I put "lots of homework" because of the exams, and there are four discussion board posts and a writing assignment. Follow the prof's email criteria outlined in the syllabus!
Prof Brougham tells great stories from her experiences over the years, and I would definitely have her again. This course is great for anyone interested in military families regardless of major (family & human dev, social work, nursing, etc.) No prerequisites either. There is a certificate for Military Families, but you can just take this course.
Lectures are monotonous and very "read off the slide" style. Acts very overly cheerful even when she's chewing you out. Not very sensitive towards the more upsetting/triggering subject matter and generally isn't very accommodating towards confidentiality of students.
Clear grading and class. It was basically your general read from the book and take a quiz sort of jam. I am one that typically prefers this as I've had a good degree of bad lecture-based instructors. If you like or are interested in the subject, and are okay with normal reading levels you will get an A.
i took the online class this quarter, and it was AWFUL. she never answered my emails, it was always the TA (who was absolutely amazing), the whole online class was just read the book, and take a quiz. no way of building on the materials we were supposed to be learning. this class is a nightmare for students with learning disabilities!!!!!!!!!!!
This was an extremely easy class. All you had to do was four discussion post, submit kindness journals, and take an online exam a week (in the accelerated version). A very easy A.
Professor Brougham definitely knows her stuff but lecture gets dry fast. Uses lots of personal stories that can last awhile. Interesting textbook required and a supplemental book needed. Regular discussion boards. Tests always online, no class on test days. Participation activities done in class but not too often. Overall an okay class.
Simple criteria read the book, take the test, and do a few discussions throughout. The textbook is primarily what the class drew from; there were PowerPoints for every chapter, but reading was heavier. The discussion boards were fun and interesting. In this online course, there was little interaction, but she provided options for help if needed.
Took online and never read the book, just used it open-notes style on the 8 exams. Kindness journal project due every week, but easy enough. The 4 discussion boards are doable with little knowledge of the text, as long as you use references (APA style).
You won't learn anything in the class. You do a daily act of kindness journal. There are 5 discussion posts, readings, and an exam each week. All answers are online for the most part. Just pay attention to the due dates on the course calendar because the dates have no rhyme or reason. The teacher doesn't interact and it all seems pointless.
Class was alright, discussion boards and tests are the biggest things to worry about. I didnt get the book and usually found most answers on quizlet. Took it as a session B and received a B. You can literally finished a weeks worth of homework on saturday. Not the easiest but certainly not hard.
Horrible professor do not take!!! She is not present at all and doesn't even have lectures she just makes you read a lot of the textbook and take a quiz every week. Don't know why she is there if she doesn't teach anything I did not learn anything from this class.
Worst professor Ive had at ASU. Didnt respond to emails, wasnt clear with instructions. I taught myself this class - with no support from the prof. Even after submitting all of my assignments, multiple were changed to 0/0 assignments because the prof was too lazy to grade the assignments. Such an expensive disappointment.
Prof is absent in the class and has the TA do everything. The prof only sets up the due dates and discussion boards but there are no lectures. It is a Human Sexuality class but all you learn about is how male and female bodies work on a biological level in the textbook and the homework is on mostly female related questions or race questions.
- makes students submit all assignments (even discussions) with APA & references. - 7-9 page paper (that requires reading of a terrible book) that is not weighted nearly enough for the work required - no extra credit or partial credit & does not work with students to extend deadlines. All answers for quizzes are in quizlet though.
took her online, so did not form a relationship personally but the material was very light, one 30 question 'exam' and 400+ word discussion board every week. Lecture videos are attached but I did not really bother after the first few weeks since the exams are copy and pasted from the textbook you can use on test. 5-7 page essay, start it early!
