She keeps lectures interesting with videos and real world applications. She also sometimes reviews past material in class before a test, which is helpful. I got by fine without doing all of the assigned readings in the book even though she strongly encourages it. She has a fun personality and is very approachable!
I think it's hard for teachers to make lecture classes interesting, but hers are not terrible. She strongly encouraged reading the assigned text. I didn't read once and did just fine. Use the notes she provides for you! Super helpful. Quizzes are weekly usually and open note. Tests are closed note and on canvas. Appreciate the Canvas teachers!
Prof Burbank's class was the worst. Her lectures were incredibly boring, and she talked a million miles a minute. She is helpful if you have questions, but other than that, she isn't a very good professor. All her tests are taken at home on Canvas, and so are the quizzes.
Its a lecture heavy class. Rather boring but she tries her best. I don't enjoy the answer-whats-in-my-head-questions. So just show and read the book and you will get a decent grade
She keeps lectures interesting, grades fair, and offers a good amount of extra credit. Great professor.
Professor Burbank speaks very fast and it is near impossible to take notes on everything she discusses in class. The exams are very hard but fortunately the quizzes are straightforward. She offers a lot of extra credit which is helpful. Make sure to read because you most likely be learning from her presentations.
She's an awesome professor who really showed a passion for the subject. She made it easy for me to understand, yet she still covered all the material in it's entirety. I would definitely recommend her!
I have taken several biology classes and she is by far the best biology professor I have ever had. She provides notes and study guides for you, does her best to keep lectures interesting, and provides extra credit. You can tell she loves what she teaches and she is very willing to help if you need it, but go to class! Highly recommend.
Make sure to do the extra credit. That was the difference between an A and a B for me. You must go to class and take really good notes!
It's basically just a lecture for the whole entire semester. She hardly ever gives you a chance to talk, but when she does, you don't want/need to.
BIO 1010 was all lecture based, and sometimes it was not the most interesting or exciting but she tried her best to make you laugh and enjoy the class. The tests were not to long and there are multiple assignments to help you cushion your grade. Overall, it was good!
She was a great professor. I only say this because she taught the subject very clearly and really helped me understand it. You also have to watch the lectures and read the chapter or you will not do well on the exams. I was online but she is very quick to respond and will always answer any questions and never made you feel stupid for asking.
I loved taking this class from Burbank. She was really fun to learn from and explained things so very clearly. she was very enthusiastic about this subject you could tell she really loves teaching. No tricks, no gimmicks. Everything she gives you will help you pass the class you just have to do the work. I wish she taught higher bio classes.
Tests were pretty hard and involved a lot of reading. It was tough to understand what she was meaning on just about every topic so I just read the book which made it easier. I watched all the lectures but I didn't do well on the tests, but with the heavy amount of assignments and extra credit it is easy to get an A, but have to work for it.
This class is a good choice. The teacher is good and as long as you study for the tests they are not hard. Don't not study and expect to pass the tests though. She also offers extra credit which is pretty nice.
This class is pretty lecture heavy but she does a good job by breaking up the class every once in a while to do group work. She does have guided notes you can access online and/or print out. She has a lot of extra credit opportunities. She has tests and quizes along with a few assignments. She also has surprise attendance opportunities
Jen is a very solid professor. She isn't the best professor I've ever had, but I never had any complaints about her. She really wants her students to succeed and believes in the virtue of hard work.
Very nice lady who cares about her students. Lectures are boring though and you could just find all the information in the textbook. If you hate biology already you will not like this class.
Would not recommend this professor. She is a very tough grader and does not work well with non-traditional students.
Be ready for numerous lectures and note-taking. If biology isn't your thing, be sure to utilize extra credit opportunities, and supplemental instruction. She tries to make lectures more understandable for people like me, but i still struggled to keep up at times.
Prof. Burbank is a nice teacher who really wants her students to succeed. However, because the BIO classes are so huge, it can be difficult to accommodate everyone. She and the TA's do work hard to help everyone they can, which I appreciated. Definitely do the reading don't expect just to breeze through things. Average test scores that I saw: c-b's
This was a good Class. Study the study guides she gives and you will get a good grade. Not a lot of homework, which is nice. She knows her stuff and is very personable. If You have a question she responds very quickly to her emails. I would absolutely take another class from her. LOVED HER!
This was an online course and she was pretty lecture heavy. To pass the course you have to read and listen to the lectures. But she does make them interesting and has a lot of other opportunities for more credit and extra credit.
Professor is very kind and a great teacher. You need to do the homework and readings and study well in order to do well. She does her best to keep the lectures fun and interesting and I really enjoyed the class.
You can write a notecard for the test, open-note/book quizzes. She responds well to emails. It's easy to get lost since this is a lecture class you have to be responsible for staying awake & taking notes. She does have some updated & engaging media in her powerpoints and is good at posting recordings and class files. Not bad if you know the basics.
Attend lectures and you will pass. Lectures can be boring but it's worth it for the grade. Tests aren't bad and she lets you have a notecard.
Professor Burbank is a very nice, genuine person and teacher. She really tries to make the class as easy as possible. She goes out of her way to explain things to the class in a way that will make sense to them. It can get kind of annoying how simple it is, but that might just be me. There is extra credit that is easy and worth the points.
I initially thought I'd fail this class. I don't understand science very well. But in the end, I realized all I had to do was watch all of her lectures (sometimes rewatch them) and do the extra credit. Her tests weren't insanely difficult- she wants you to pass. I passed with an A. Great teacher.
Prof Burbank is nice and knows the material really well. Her class is based mostly on her lectures and weekly quizzes. She does offer extra credit sometimes. Theres SIs, and shes always willing to help students. But this is an extremely hard class. If youre just looking for credit and not content, it might be worth looking into another teacher.
Great teacher
Professor Burbank's class is very lecture heavy, she knows the material very well though. She is always accessible and willing to help, she cares deeply about each of her students and wants you to succeed. She offers quite of bit of extra credit, make sure to do it, it will make all the difference in your final grade.
She gave tons of extra credit that could really spike your grade. The grade and class wasn't test heavy and were really based on the stuff she told you to study. She struggled with the tech increase during the pandemic, but really tried to make the class accessible for both in-class and zoom students. A good class and teacher who really cared. 5/5
Jen is a phenomenal professor! Do the extra credit that she gives you. GO TO CLASS!! As long as you go to class and take notes you will be fine. She is really good at answering question and making it a discussion. Honestly this class was pretty easy and I liked her a lot. You can tell that she genuinely cares about her students' success.
If you go to class, pay attention and take really good notes you will be fine. She lets you use a notecard for tests, and its open book/note for quizzes. Her lectures are very good but really long and hard to pay attention. Class numbers are very large so its sometimes hard to feel part of the class or to participate with so many people.
Jen was a good professor. The course is very lecture heavy. If you don't attend class you won't know the material for the tests. She also does a project four times a semester and attendance is mandatory. Quizzes are open note. The class isn't hard, just have to show up, listen, and take notes. She also gives you lecture notes to help in class.
Her teaching style is kind of sporadic and the lectures sometimes cut off early but are easy to understand. You also get an index card for the tests as a "cheat sheet".
Professor Burbank is awesome. You MUST go to class and study outside of class. There is quite a bit of content to learn, but if you pay attention in class and study, the class will be enjoyable as she tries to focus on understanding and application of the material in a clear way.
I thought Jen was a great professor. She was clear and although the lectures were long they were easy to understand. The exams aren't easy but she prepares you well. She also offers extra credit assignments which were great!
Some days attendance was mandatory due to projects. But entertaining enough lecture. Has comprehensive final.
I don't even like Biology, but Dr. Burbank made this class extremely likeable. There were two large tests, but she provided study guides and was very easy to reach. Even though I streamed into class, I got the sense that she cared about me and my fellow students. If you have the chance to take a class from her, I would absolutely recommend it.
Professor Burbank is a wonderful teacher. She's really good at what she does and you can tell that she truly cares about her students and their success. I'm not great at science, but still enjoyed this class. I definitely had to study for the exams, but she made it easy by giving us guided notes. Would definitely recommend taking her class!
Jennifer is a great professor and super nice. This class wasn't to bad, it seems overwhelming at first but it is very routine and clear as far as what you have to do. I would highly recommend this class.
I loved taking Biology from Jen. As long as you pay attention in class you will pass. She descirbes things perfect and privides you with notes and study guide to help you pass. There is a weekly quiz and assignment each week which give you no stress. They are so easy. There is also a midterm and a final. As long as you are listening, youll pass!!
Jen is the best. She is one of the best professors I have ever had, she is incredible at what she does and she really cares about the learning of all the students in the class. Attendance is not mandatory but I would highly suggest it. If you stay on top of your work you will pass this class easily.
Jen is overall a good choice. Though, I wouldn't recommend her web broadcast courses though. The broadcast is set up well and all but, Jen clearly hates teaching that way. But, she still got the job done and was easy to talk to and explain things well. She's super into group projects and needs participation. Overall, she's a not a bad pick.
I enjoyed Professor Burbank overall. She was an engaging lecturer and you can tell she is passionate about her subject. I opted not to attend the SI lectures offered. I didn't feel the study guides prepared well enough for the exams, but there were so many opportunities for extra credit that I never worried about my grade.
Jen is an amazing professor! She makes class interactive and interesting. She presents so many different resources that class is never just textbook and lecture. She gives many opportunities for extra credit and truly cares about her students. She is good at teaching BIO1010, but the small BIO3030 class I took from her was even better.
Be ready for an assignment and a quiz every week. The exam is taken from the book rather than the lectures. Class is semi easy to follow along with. Attendance is taken through a poll that is done multiple times throughout class.
Great professor. Clearly cares about what she teaches and welcomes feedback from students. Understanding and works with you. Biology is perhaps my least favorite subject, but she makes it tolerable and even interesting (at times), speaking as someone who doesn't care for it. If Biology is your jam, you will love it. If it isn't, you will like it.
You can tell Jen is super passionate about this subject, but she uses a lot of technical vocab that can be hard to understand sometimes. Its easy to get confused because of how many details she includes.
I thought Jen was great! There is an assignment and quiz every week, but they take like 10 minutes. Make sure to show up to class and pay attention, biology is hard!
She gives a lot of extra credit and the exams are not worth that much of your grade which is super nice. She just goes super slow and extend the lesson so much more than needed. She gives study guides for the exams which there are only 2. A lot of small assignment all due every Saturday.
I loved Jen! She clearly loves her job and is very passionate. She is super easy to reach out to and will respond quickly. If you just do the assignments you'll do fine in the class. She gives lot of extra credit and wants you to succeed. There are a lot of assignments so keep on top of them but it will be about 3-4 hours of work a week.
This class was really enjoyable and Jen was a great professor. There is a weekly quiz and assignment due every Saturday, but you could use your notes that you take in class. There is a ton of extra help outside of class if you need it. Overall this was a good class and I Jen taught it really well.
Fantastic teaching style and lots of resources for you to use. Weekly easy quizzes and assignments.
Jen is a great lady. She really cares about her students, and an A in this class is easily achievable. No one goes to SI, but it is very helpful. I'm pretty sure like half the class had a crush on her.
Jen is a great professor! An A in her class is very attainable. There is a weekly quiz and assignment that are both pretty easy. You can retake the quiz and it is open note. She also offers a lot of extra credit. Jen is very passionate and cares a lot, so I would definitely recommend taking her class!
I absolutely loved Jen! She kept lectures interesting and engaging. There is a weekly quiz and an assignment due on Saturdays, but they are not time consuming at all. There are only two exams, both of which Jen provided a detailed study guide for. As long as you show up to class and pay attention, you are sure to get an A in this course!
Professor Burbank's lectures can get a little slow, but if you follow along and take notes this will be the easiest and best class you take. She has so many opportunities for extra credit. There are 3 group projects throughout the semester that are super easy. She takes attendance through poll everywhere so go to class and participate!
Professor Burbank is great! This class was super easy as long as you go to class. The tests affect a very small portion of the grade which was super nice. The lectures in this class are pretty long but if you follow along and take notes, you will get a good grade in this class.
I typically struggle in science courses, however Burbank made Bio one of my easiest classes. That being said it was still very difficult for me, but she is great at engaging a class and making sure we have any helpful resource to make sure her students succeed. Still a hard class, but she made it the easiest science class due to her motivation.
An amazing professor, knows her information well. There is in-class participation so make sure to go. Tests are doable if you just study good, she gives random extra credit, and grades assignments fairly easy. I would definitely take from her again.
Great professor! Barely any assignments. Taking notes are crucial for the midterm and final. Easy class if you go to the lectures
Professor Burbank is great! She really cares about the success of her students! I am not skilled in science subjects, but I was able to understand and do well in the class with her teaching. The tests are a little stressful, but she lets you use a notecard on them.
She was great! Super passionate about the material and definitely knew what she was talking about. Only thing Id say is she tends to go at a fast pace and it's hard to get all the material written down before she goes to the next slide so you'll miss things. Other than that she was engaging & you could tell she wanted her students to succeed.
I loved this class! She was so caring and made biology fun! The tests threw me sometimes with their wording, but if you study hard and read carefully, you should be fine. She was great about giving extra credit options too, so there were plenty of chances to raise your grade.
Jen is such a great professor! She's very fun and engaging. The class is lecture-heavy, but she tries to allow for group work occasionally. She's very easy to understand. She uses Poll Everywhere to track attendance.
Her class was great, just go to class and do her guided notes and you will do great. The only thing I didn't like the bio group lectures. you would read like 4 papers before class and then discuss in class.
She was hands down the best professor I have had yet. I am not great with biology but I thoroughly enjoyed this class. She structures it in a way that it is easy to learn and she is always available for additional help. She made a scary class well worth my time.
Take Jen Burbank, she is the best! I am horrible at biology, but she made me actually understand a like it. I did her online course and she puts so much effort into it. I wish all professors were like her! 10/10
Overall, I really enjoyed her as a teacher. I felt like she was good at explaining things and did not give too much homework, so it was somewhat easy to stay on top of things. She gives a study guide for all of the huge tests and that was very helpful. I wish that the lectures were posted, but it wasn't a bad class.
Jen is sweet and she's great at explaining biology. You won't have to read the textbook if you come to lectures, and she gives guided notes that go along with her slides. The tests aren't too hard as long as you study and she lets you take a notecard in.
Jen should teach a class where other professors come to learn how to be a phenomenal professor. She is all around an excellent teacher who truly cares for her students. 5/5
I did not want to take this class but it ended up being alright. The assignments aren't too difficult but you need to attend class to do well. Jen is nice and a good teacher she brings positive energy everyday. The final is not cumulative which is awesome.
Great professor! I was just in Biology 1010 to knock out a general, but Jen made the class pretty painless, as far as knocking out generals goes. She's a caring, respected professor that seems genuinely passionate about biology, and her lectures are good. If you pay attention in class, the homework, quizzes, and tests are a breeze.
I took an online class that was out of state. Utilize the student teacher if there is one she did zoom reviews. The textbook was helpful, but the lectures covered the material. I really enjoyed the interactive labs and quizzes in the lectures. Tests don't determine your grade, definitely study but if you did poor just know there is room to improve!
Jen is a great professor. She takes attendance to give you credit and I would get some extra credit just for coming to class. The homework load was easy and the quizzes. For a gen ed course she really helped me understand the material and has office hours.
As long as you show up to the lectures and review the study guide before tests you'll do great!
This was a easy class, the weekly quizzes were easy and short. She gives extra credit opportunities and is very straight forward on how to get a good grade on assignments. He lectures are pretty Okay but she has little assignments here and there which are easy points.
She is amazing! Class is pretty easy. Reading is optional. There are guided notes for every lecture. Most of the time, there are only two assignments every week, and they are pretty quick and easy. Attendance is required, but only 80% of the time. If you show up more, you get extra credit. There are lots of opportunities for extra credit as well.
Jen does a great job. Her lectures are excellent, not filled with fluff and provides interesting content. One thing that she does, that I admire, is that she gives insight on what the midterm and final test will contain.
I love Jen, she makes an effort to make her lectures interesting, there's only two weekly assignments that are easy, and a few short group projects in the semester. Just make sure you study for the midterm and final. You can tell she cares about her students even when she has hundreds of them. I'd definitely recommend her for Bio 1010.
I LOVED THIS CLASS!! She gave TONS of opportunity for extra credit (every week)! She was easy to get ahold of, she drops the lowest quiz scores, gives guided notes, honestly I don't know what else she could do to be any better. I hate biology but she made it SO enjoyable. Her Canvas page is very easy to navigate and there are only 2 exams!
She is a great teacher and the course was easy! There are ample opportunities to earn extra credit. Participation and feedback are mandatory. The assignments are easy, and the class did not consume too much time or effort. Overall, would take it again. I don't even like science, but the class and professor were great!
Super great teacher, tests don't effect your grade too much so it's super easy to do well
Great class! I stuggle with science and found her teaching style to be great no matter what level you are at. There are 2 exams, both do have to be taken in the testing center, but you get a notecard you can take. She was easy to contact outside of class and gave many oppertunities for extra credit. Some group work is involved but only in class.
This class was hard for me, but grades aren't purely based on exam scores. Attendance isn't really mandatory but if you don't go you'll get behind pretty easily. As long as you show up and actually do the work you'll be fine.
Easy class! She knows what she is talking about and makes it easy to understand.
She was very clear in what she expected. She did a great job at teaching and explaining and helping the class to understand. It was a big lecture, but she is probably one of the best professors I have ever had.
Jen Burbank is a fabulous teacher. All expectations are laid out on the first two days and repeated throughout the semester. Multiple reminders are given about due dates on assignments. Her lectures for BIOL 1010 are engaging and never boring. I strongly recommend Jen as a professor choice!
Jen Burbank is great. Her class is easy enough. There is a weekly quiz/assignment that is super quick and easy and there are only 2 tests (midterm/final), both of which you can use a large notecard on. She is very accessible and wants you to succeed and isn't trying to trick you. She also provides a lot of supplemental resources to aid in learning!
Jen is very knowledgeable about what she teaches just be aware that you have to show up to class because the lectures are heavy. You have 1 assignment and 1 quiz a week that are super easy, you only have 2 tests (midterm/final), and you will have participation points in class, so it is important you show up. Biology can be hard, so study.
I enjoyed Professor Burbank's class. The first half of the semester is pretty easy; you can get by without much effort, but the second half requires you to be attentive during long lectures that can be boring. There are only 2 exams that count for 25% of your grade, so if you study up for those and show up to class, it's manageable
She's great but the lectures just get so boring towards the end, you'll be completely fine in this class as long as you show up and do the work. The weekly assignments are actually so fun and not hard, the two exams are difficult but as long as you study a bit, you'll do fine. She does three in class discussions so make some friends lol.
She does a great job considering how large her class sizes are. Gives opportunities for extra credit, weeks usually consisted of an easy assignment and a quiz on the material presented the week before. Attendance is not mandatory, but that's where all the info will be presented, so attendance is a good idea lol. Would take again!
Burbank is a good professor and hers is an easy class. Really the only thing you need to do is go to class. Would recommend this course.
Jen Burbank was a great professor for BIO1010. Her lectures are amazing and very thorough. She will go through notes and reviews for questions for the exam, and the exams are not difficult. There is a fair amount of homework and quizzes, but those are easy. Great professor
