Dr. Capers is very nice. She goes over things so that you understand and will answer any questions as long as you ask them. She will let you know if you need to know something for the exam and even gives you a STUDYGUIDE, which it is EXTREMELY HELPFUL for the test. Pretty much take notes and do the study guide and you will be okay.
She really takes the time to answer your questions during lab, and if you ask exactly what is on the test she will tell you. Kind.
Dr. Capers is the most helpful and kind teacher. Will help you with questions no matter how long it takes. Would take her again.
Mrs. Capers is a wonderful teacher. She will take her time to go over anything if you just ask. Very quick to respond to emails as well. I am sad that she does not teach any of my other science classes.
A nice and friendly teacher who mostly tells you what will be on the test. Just study well because it's not always clear cut answers.
Dr. Capers is a great professor! Biology is an extremely hard subject for me, but she tells you what you need to know, gives study guides, will help you with any questions and if you have a problem, she is willing to work with you. Great teacher!!!
Capers is a very good instructor, very helpful. She speaks in English terms, easy to understand. Recommend to take her class.
Mrs. Capers was definitely the greatest teacher i had last semester. She is very helpful and makes her class almost impossible to fail. She gives study guides and goes over any questions you may have. I am taking her again for Bio 2 lab :)
Awesome professor! Will take her for other labs.
Took Dr. Capers for both Bio and A&P I Lab (was extremely relieved to see she slid into the ONLY A&P Lab spot!!) Not only is she very helpful but she makes learning something so boring fun and interesting. She is helps you ways to learn things you thought would be difficult. Hope to take her for MCB and A&P II!
Dr. Capers is super easy to learn from and very helpful
Dr. Capers takes a tough subject and makes you want to learn it. While the class is tough, lots to memorize, she makes you feel like you can ask her anything. She provides a great learning atmosphere. I hope she will be teaching my other science classes! If you can get into her class, you will not regret it!
I took Dr. Capers for Biology 1 Lab, and found her class to be very interesting. She is helpful, and clear on what to study for your practicals. Easy to talk to. This is a class that you HAVE to STUDY for.
Had her for lab, she is very nice and helpful.
Great lab class for AP2. I would think this class would be drawn out in a regular semester but in the summer it moves right along. Lots of info to learn but SO interesting. Not sure why the person below took any summer class expecting a cake walk, class work sounds exactly like a Bio class should be. Dr. Capers is a wonderful professor!
Dr. Capers is a new instructor, but she was born to teach in this field. She is straight forward and if you need to know something, she helps you find it and not just gives you the answer. That's what learning is all about. If you want to learn, and some of us still do. I would recommend her.
took her for AP1 Lab for the summer, she is the best!!!!!! would take her again if i could for ap2 and mirobiology if she taught it.
Dr Capers was born to teach, the person who said she sucks just told everyone on here what a little baby they are, bio 1 over the summer, not a bright move! She is without a doubt one of the top 5 instructors I've ever had, clear, consice and very helpfull.
Great teacher. She is very helpful and smart. I would take her again. As long as you study the handouts and materials presented in class you will be fine. She is very helpful.
Excellent teacher. Very Helpful. If you can follow directions and study the test reviews, you will do very well in this class.
Had her for BSC2010L and BSC2094L She is a very good Professor. If you pay attention in class and study the material she specifies, there are no surprises. TAKE HER CLASS
Absolutely loved this teacher! I took her for Bio 1 during the summer and struggled but she was very helpful. This is possibly the BEST teacher in the BIOLOGY Dept!! If you can't pass her, you can't pass anyone!
Great instructor, she presents the material that you will need. Very fair, if you do the work you will be ok. If you are a slacker than this is not the class for you.
I would have to say this is one of the greatest teachers I have ever had at IRSC. She was the most helpful teacher and will do anything to help you pass the class. You have to study and do a lot of work to do well though.
She is a GREAT teacher. I wouldnt say that she was an easy A class but she does not work you too hard. Does not go outside of study guides. Understanding teacher-TAKE HER
Amazing teacher, she loves to help everyone out and is very clear with her material, i had her for lecture and lab and the same material was said in each class to reinforce what we learned! she was an AMazing teacher!
Had her for lab. Amazing teacher. Always willing to help. She made it really clear what was going to be on the final, and it seemed to good to be true, but it was a really easy final. Almost everyone got an A. Great professor, learned a lot, used the book.
While she spends almost no time teaching and lecturing this lab, there really isn't a need for her to do so. She provides ample study time and answers questions quickly. She even admits when she doesn't know the answer but will find it for you.
Dr. Capers is Awesome! She's a great teacher and is really nice. Do the Study Guides and you'll pass with at least a B
Who doesn't love Dr. Capers? She is an amazing professor and wants you to do well. I had her for A&PII Lab and wish I had taken her for other classes. She is very clear, helpful, and a joy to be around. There wasn't a moment that she didn't look around to make sure her students understood the topic. Love her and you will too. Thanks Doc! :)
Dr. Capers has to be the best professor at IRSC. She is not a push over, but she is extremely helpful and wants you to do well. I took her for biology & both A&P labs. She is Awesome.. You have to sign up for every class she teaches.
Dr. Capers is the BEST teacher that I have ever had. she is extremely helpful and wants you to succeed and do well in the course. She is just GREAT Please take her class..... AWESOME teacher... very understandable!
i had Capers before and she WAS great. But these past 2 semesters I have been really disappointed. I mean, her class is easy but she is not all there. And she will never get back to you on email. She probably has emails from years ago she still has not read. The study guide is the only helpful thing now. I hope she bounces back..:/
Reads power points off to you and dismisses the class.Says biology is hard and some people dont get it. Test not from online exams. study guide says study everything. She will say dont worry about that and skip things that come up later on. Nice person, be ready to teach yourself.
Dr. Capers is a very nice professor but if u like learning on ur own she's rite for u.. she just reads the powerpoints dnt really explain them OMG she says UMMMMM alot that wud make u think she might not know what she is talkin about.
Dr. Capers is a nice person in all but dont not take her if you like learning on ur own...She gives you a study guide and tells you to study everything on it but when you get the test nothing on their you study...Reads from powerpoints and NEVER use the book..a waste of my time.....
was disappointed in this professor.she reads her powerpoints but does not elaborate.has study guides for tests but when you take the test there is nothing you studied on the test. you have to read your book to know whats going on. you have to teach yourself.i managed to get out of the class with a C
i would never again take dr capers..She's a nic woman in all but as far as teaching..she needs to do a better. If you like teaching yourself than she the right person for you.
she's a horrible teacher didn't teach at all just went over powerpoint and thats it study guide didn't help at all if u want to teach yourself then this class is for u
Capers is a very sweet person, but a VERY hard teacher. She uses a lot of powerpoints and goes very quickly with them. The test questions are very confusing because they are worded in a wierd way. Study guides are pointless! She is willing to help in her office, but she teaches alot of classes and it was hard to catch her at the right time.
If you prefer to be on your own; then, she is the right professor for you. Reads over PP's fast, goes back and forth between them. NOT A GOOD TEACHER. She seems like a nice person, but needs to improve her "teaching skills". Lectures are boring and pointless! YOU REALLY NEED TO READ THE BOOK and get help outside of class (like youtube) Good Luck!
Took her for Biology & Lab. Horrible Prof! Worst mistake i made. Goes through powerpoints fast and doesnt tell you whats on the test. Pretty much your on your own. Wouldnt recommend her!
DO NOT TAKE HER EVER.<MUST BE LAST LAST NO CHOICE OPITION>.PLEASE DO NOT BE FOOLED BY OTHERS PEOPLE.SHE IS NICE, BUT BEING NICE DOES NOT HELP YOU PASS. SIGING OF voice of the students
She is really really nice but I would not recommend taking her at all. She goes through the powerpoints really fast and the study guides are no help at all you basically have to teach yourself.
BSC2011&L-I don?t understand how anyone could say that she is ?hard? I NEVER attended lectures. Her power points were available on her website & study guides outlining the material that tests would cover. I got an A in both classes with very minimal effort(& I?m not a strong Bio student) If you do the study guides you should have no problem at all!
I do not recommend this professor at all!! Reads ppt dismisses the class, study guides and online quizzes are USELESS!Have no Clue what to study for tests. No extra credit If you need to pass Biology DO NOT TAKE HER!!!
I dont recommend this teacher either. She's a nice person. Very sweet. But she is also VERY DIFFICULT. She does go through the powerpoints pretty fast. No explanations of the powerpoints either. I wouldn't take her again. I failed her class and passed with a much better teacher.
read the book, went on line, read the power points, took the pretests and post tests on line and still can not figure out where the test questions come from
OMG people! She was really nice. She never had a problem stopping for questions. She would stay after. She showed interest when I had questions. In this class you have to memorize and study, I am sorry but she doesnt hand out free grades. I would take her again.I passed C. Thats on me. I do not memorize well.
I don't reccommend her at all.I did all the study guides and the online quizzes..nothing helped I still failed the course and now im retaking it with a different teacher for the summer. She's really nice but...blah
Great Prof. she is really helpful and her material isn't extremely difficult. If you think she is hard, try taking Tyler or Presely..
She tells you exactly what she expects you to learn and doesn't throw any surprises at you come test day. If you don't undertand something, tell her and she will do all that she can to help you out. As a helpful study tip, print out her slides from her website, bring them into class, and take pictures of all of the specimens that she points out.
I DO NOT RECOMMEND! If ya care about your GPA, you better STAY AWAY FROM CAPERS! She's horrible! She gives study guides which were pointless cause I still failed the tests anyhow. And she gave extra credit. Still doesn't help. She goes through her powerpoints fast and you end up teaching yourself. Just safe yourself the trouble! Take someone else!
She whisks through the powerpoints and doesn't really teach much. She is very nice and willing to help if you ask her for it though. It's just frustrating because it is a "teach yourself" kind of class, which is why I stuggled with it
Dr. Caper's class is not for everyone. It is difficult, but she is so helpful. Email her, ask questions, use all the materials she posts on her course webpages, and most important tip READ THE TEXTBOOK! Many students just looked up the definitions or only the topics listed on the study guide - really bad idea, they didn't pass.
LOL! These people on here are trippin'! Dr. Capers isnt for everyone so dont depend too much on other ppls experience to decide for you because everyone is diff.! I took her over the summer and I STILL got an A Study guides werent helpful but the powerpoints were all you needed! Heres how I passed:Print ppt. and take notes on them as she goes! DUH!
This is a continuation of my comment below..people say she goes fast only because they are trying to copy down the ppt instead of having it with them! Dr. Capers was super nice but you have to put in work to pass! I took Presley for BIO 2 and I CRIED because she was sooo hard. Dont be fooled,Capers is better than any of the other professors folks!
Dr. Capers definitely kept my attention during my weekly life science class. The tests were a bit difficult, but if you have ANY questions, she's always willing to answer. She's extremely helpful and I recommend her for science. I plan on taking her for bio I and II
AVOID THIS TEACHER WITH YOUR LIFE! I took her for Biology I n she is NOT an easy teacher. She DOES NOT teach. Do NOT be fooled! She is a nice person. She is helpful. I went to her office to get help, asked questions, did study guides. COMPLETELY USELESS! I still did not pass. If u want a good gpa, take somebody else who teaches!
Knows her stuff but just does not know how to teach to college students. Needs to learn how to give lectures that one can understand and not feel like a complete lost cause when the class is over! I was more confused than anything coming out of her lectures...AVOID....she needs to refine her teaching skills...also tends to get side tracked easily.
She was an amazing professor. I read the study guides, did not get the book and still did great. Helpful if you need additional help.
Had her for Micro lab. Great Prof. Very helful. Very nice. She gives out sheets with the info for what we are supposed to learn in class, and all you have to do is study the info, and tests are pice of cake
Very nice teacher. She is willing to answer questions during class, or meet in her office to go over anything with you. As long as you read your book, notes, and do her exam study guides you're fine. You definitely need to put forth the effort, this is not an easy class. A lot of memorization.
Took her for BSC lecture. You are better off teaching yourself by reading the book. She does powerpoints and has good intentions but tests were horrible! On the otherhand, her lab was very easy. I suggest her for lab but not lecture!!
Lectures are a little dull and study guides only account for half the tests. The other half.. good luck. Wouldn't recommend for lecture, but I hear she is great for lab.
RUN!! and don't look back. I had a 4.0 before taking her class. She is nice and helpful. Test are horrible. I studied hard and knew my stuff and still did bad on test. I got a B in her class.
She is a low talker. Is late arriving to class. She does however answer questions you may have, but I wish she was a little more clearer in her teachings. If you do not ask questions you will be lost. I guess I would take her again, but definately ask more questions. So besides her tardiness she is okay.
Wow , tough test , no practic test to prepare. Test were also confusing. She seems to realy care care but for summer internet class realy tough.
Dr. Capers is a nice lady. But she is NOT a good teacher. She gets off topic very easily and does not prepare you for exams. I do not recommend her, unless you want to fail of course. I loved bio before I took this course. But shes sweet at least. lol
She needs to take a class on learning how to teach. This teacher does not really know what she is doing. I do not know why the Biology department has no control over the teaching style.
She is usually late for class and leaves early, sometimes a class will get out as much as 45 minutes early, even when covering tough material. classes do not prepare you for the exams - she writes her own exams, therefore flashcards and other study guides are useless. There are a lot of trick questions. She is a sweet lady but not a good teacher.
She was a really good Marine Environmental teacher. All her exams are based off her study guide and powerpoints! she is extremely nice and a pretty good all around teacher!
I thought this was a very difficult class. The way she goes through lecture, by reading powerpoints (something I could do at home), not very helpful. She includes study guides, but even so, come time for the test, I feel like we didn't cover any of the material. Not happy with my grade in this class. =(
Has a nice personality but horrible teaching skills. She provides "study guides" that are useless and basically outlines of everything she taught. She teaches by reading powerpoints word for word and rushes through the material so fast it loses you. The tests have questions you've never heard answers to. I DO NOT RECOMMEND AT ALL
Took oce2001 as an online class. The at home exams questions were easy to find online. Material is alot. Seems nice via the Internet
She always rushed through class and let us out at least 15 minutes early, usually 30-45 minutes early. I found her class easy because I am good without much help, but if you need help and can't study well, you will most likely fail. She was really cute too, nice lady, not too much of a teacher though.
Great teacher. goes over key information on power points and then explains the big concepts on the chalkboard. She will answer any questions and she is quite good looking. easy multiple answer tests. All i did was read over the powerpoints and it was an easy A.
Overall she is a very nice lady but her teaching method is horrible! She goes right off the power points and rushes through everything. She will let you you leave class a good 45 mind before class is supposed be over. I did pass her class but i basically taught myself. If your a visual learner take her but if your a hands on learner STAY AWAY!
I am glad I took this class online. We are starting the final chapters and she doesn't have all of the info available. Email communications were rude and primitive.
Not a whole lot of communication, but I read through all her power points and took notes out of the book. The study guides weren't super helpful, just made you further understand subjects that weren't always on the test. Pretty straightforward, just very inclusive, large tests so studying and reading the book would be most helpful. Use online hw!
I can't speak to how she is as a professor teaching a class in person, but she was great online. Very helpful when I had questions, prompt responses from emails. I missed a test and she let me sit in her office and look over the test so I could be prepared for the final. The class was not easy, but this is college; it's not supposed to be easy.
Class was okay. Very dry and boring it was not an easy course to begin with and she made it more complicated.
I never met Dr. Capers because I took her online and I never had the need to go ask her about anything. She gave us power points for each chapter as well as study guides, but they weren't really helpful. Do the Connect homework and study the power points thoroughly. There are 4 tests and a final. She drops the lowest of the 4.
Wonderful person, but not very good at teaching. She rushes thru powerpoints and ends class super early. Her powerpoints aren't even related to the test. If you want to learn and pass, you're pretty much on your own. I strongly do not recommend unless you're ready to teach yourself bio.
Immunology lecture is very laid back, but challenging. Lectures are enjoyable, and questions can be asked freely. Class usually opens with a discussion of current relavent events, which is fun and helps make topics memorable. The subject matter is advanced, and can be difficult, but lectures are concise. Study guides given for test are VERY USEFUL
I am still taking her class, but she does rush through the slides, I print out the slides, which helps be, and I do the study guides, and draw her Cellular Respiration and Photosynthesis prezi! I got from mid D to high B's so far on her 3 exams, she is very helpful if you have questions in and after class
I got an instructor withdrawal because I didn't understand a thing :(. I had a low C. Take somebody else she sucks!!!! Reads directly from the PowerPoint!!
She is an amazing professor! She would always help me if I needed it. Also she is an amazing person I swear I talked to her after every class. I totally recommend her for gen bio 1. I loved her so much I signed up for two of her classes next semester. I didn't even study for her class and I ended up with a B.
Overall good helpful teacher. just ask here any question.
Just.... just don't. I can't even. So terrible, so awkies.
I thought this class was difficult, but Mrs. Capers does a great job of giving the information that you will need. I would definitely take her again. I ended up with an A.
I study, know every answer to the study guides and STILL end up with C's on the test. Study guides are broad. If something is in the study guide you need to know every single detail about that one thing if you want to get an A. Very frustrating when you spend hours studying the study guide.
Go to class and take notes, you will pass with ease. She is extremely nice and understanding. Only 4 tests in the semester and a couple homework assignments. Not much work at all.
From reading other reviews, I don't think most people realize that Capers posts the audio from all of her lectures on blackboard so if you miss class or you just need a refresher, you can listen to the whole class again. Also yes, the study guides are broad but she covers almost everything on tests in lecture. If you need help she is always there.
I love Prof. Capers. I took her class for gen bio 1 and 2. She is extremely intelligent and dedicated to her work. She goes over her PowerPoints in class with time to spare and answers any questions you may have. If you work hard and study, you will do just fine.
I had her online and was very disappointed by her echo lectures. Every time she walked away from the mic, you couldn't hear her. I did more poorly on those chapters at exam. Exams not too bad. Final super easy, just study all previous exams. Not quick to email back- could take over a week. Study guides are a good base, but study other info too! - A
Tests are all multiple choice. Provides study guides. All ways replies to emails. Easy to understand and answers any questions. Heavy material but if you study you will pass. Skip a couple classes and some topics will be confusing. Provides powerpoints. Does visuals on the board if you are confused. Wonderful teacher, highly reccomend.
She's a great person but she only lectures on powerpoints. I, for one can not learn that way. Class itself was just boring you basically have to teach yourself to understand the material.
I had to withdraw from her class... I took her online for Bio 2 and have never done poorly in an online class.. by the second test I was failing and had no idea how to make my grades go up. I studied the "Study guidelines" given by her but the tests were completely different from the material she gave to study. Heard its not any better in person.
She is very intelligent & she seems to be a well respected professor, but her class is difficult. There are no study guides or extra credit points, so all you have to rely on is the ppt's that she reads in class & your personal background knowledge on the subject. She moves a bit fast. Studying for at least 2 weeks is highly recommended.
Terrible! Took online. Will never take her again. No study guide. Expects you to study 300+ PP slides per test. 5 tests total. + homework. Then test has questions that weren't covered. No empathy from her. Sent a group message to us about studying that said "Suck it up and do it." also When I needed help w/ echo360, she pawned me off on help desk.
Dr. Capers is a very intelligent professor, she tries to explain things the best she can. No homework, no extra credit, just five exams and a comprehensive final. As long as you study everyday, you'll be good. Powerpoints are the only study guide
DON'T TAKE HER! I passed bio 1 quite easily with a B with a different professor, but this was completely different. Her lectures are long and boring and she walks away from the mic so it's impossible to hear her, and they have nothing to do with her tests. She provides no study guides or extra credit. You have to memorize the book to pass the class
Professor Capers was awful. I would email her questions and most of the time she didn't respond. When she did, it was snippy and unhelpful; mostly just telling me to suck it up and study. She did not provide study guides, just power points that omitted most questions that were on the online tests. I do not recommend her for online biology.
This course was the worst. It's taxonomy of everything for the first half of the semester. then the second half is all body systems. It felt like 5 classes crammed into one. Get ready to develop photographic memory or you wont get an A. the course itself is horrible its a mash up of so many concepts. a diff teacher wouldn't have made a difference
Just don't. Power Points slides are endless!!! Multiple heavy chapter readings with endless lists of vocabulary. The study guides are useless, not even written by her, but from another professors class. The busy work and additional assignments only detract from the ability to focus on studying and passing tests(good luck there). Disappointed.
Dr. Capers was very helpful when it came to explaining difficult concepts when I visited her during her office hours. The lectures are power point based and if you study them along with the worksheets you'll do fine. The tests are difficult, but if you sit with the material and learn it they aren't impossible. You get the grade you earn.
She posts good lectures, and responds quickly to emails. Your grade consists mainly of exams, so make sure you study everything on the power points thoroughly. Lowest test score is dropped.
Would not recommend for online class. First exam had questions not covered in the material (she acknowledged and fixed grades but it was still frustrating). Lectures were basically just her reading the power point, so I stopped bothering about 3 weeks in. Homework seemed unhelpful for the exams. Just make flash cards from power point and study them
Does a great job explaining material, but her class was very difficult for me to pass. I took her course twice & withdrew both times. She is a tough grader and the wording on her tests, for me, were difficult to understand even when I studied nonstop. Tells you to study one thing, then ends up asking you something total different on the test.
Textbook is online, the class is easy if you put in effort, powerpoints and mini-study guides provided. If you dont plan on studying do not take this class.
She made fun of me in her emails when asking questions. She says in her syllabus shes there to help but when you ask for help she gives you none. Would not recommend taking her class in person or online.
Shes a great professor I came to her with concerns about getting a c in the class she was very understanding offered me a chance to withdrawal before the final. She went over what was on the final and made me feel better bout it and I ended up with a b in the class. She does lecture so pay attention because her test question can be very hard.
Took this class online and it is absolutely awful . I passed bio 1 with a 101%, I have received a 72 and 64 on the first 2 tests. Went through all powerpoints and took notes, test was completely different than the information given and questions on the homework. Her recorded lectures are her reading the powerpoint, not helpful. Do not take online!!
IDK what she is like in person, but DO. NOT. take her class online. Why? Her test averages have been in the 60's range all semester. There are "extra credit" assignments but if you turn it in literally one minute late you get a 0. Dropped my grade 6 points. Also, no guidelines on what to study for the tests whatsoever.
Pathetic teacher, extremely moody and slick. Her test averages are always around 60%. Her tests ARE NOT based on her PowerPoints. Terrible lectures constantly says ummm ummm cant get her point across. Do not take her!
DO NOT take her online. Recorded lectures do not help and her test are definitely not based on her powerpoints. Talking with other students who have had her in the past can also testify that her test are not based on material learned but rather from her own knowledge. Her final is 200 points, makes it very hard to receive even a B in her class.
Poor presentations & convoluted to some point. "you know uh.". No I dont, thats why i am in a class. Just learn the subject b/c the exams dont always reflect what is taught. Will NEVER take a class with her EVER again. Not empathetic, "Well I have kids too and have to work" mentality, not thinking of students that have kids, work & school!
course itself is very interesting but you must be self sufficient to learn anything. It is very difficult to take online classes, but even harder when she wont respond to any questions for help. The study guides are extremely helpful. Very few opportunities to earn grades so you cant fall behind. Shes the only prof available so good luck!
Be aware to study on your own! Her lecture is pointless and glad I took it online. All she says is um um after every other word. Someone with a PhD should know not to say um so many times in a sentence it gets annoying. I did not listen to her lectures and still got an A. One dropped Exam, paper and final Is Cumulative 200 points
Every lecture she gets sidetracked and goes so in-depth on a subject that is not on the worksheets or tests. There's a huge load of information in this class and you are expected to understand it all through brief explanations on a PowerPoint video. The final and midterm is 100 questions and takes up
Dr. Capers knows her stuff and is passionate about what she's teaching. No late work, but you can drop an exam and a worksheet grade. I took her hybrid and had online lectures (similar to in-class) that I listened to on repeat. You WILL NOT PASS BY ONLY STUDYING THE WORKSHEETS, they are a guide and not as specific as the exam questions. Study hard!
I took this class online. Didn't watch a single lecture. She is strict about late work. aka NONE. But other than that so easy. Homework was worksheets. I finished them the day they were due in like an hour or two. 2 proctored tests on honor lock. Still googled everything on my phone.. 2 tests non-proctored. Still found every answer on my phone. eZ.
Absolutely Awful, FIND ANOTHER PROFESSOR!!!!!!! She is sneaky and rude. I did well in her class, but I am good in school she has high failing grades.
The tests are not based on the PowerPoint at all. There are lecture videos that are about 1.5 hours long a piece and have an insane amount of information. The worksheets aren't helpful for the exams at all, and you're better off memorizing a 30 slide powerpoint.
