hardest class ever. it is pretty ridiculous to learn everything and she expects us to know everything. not only does she have an annoying voice, she requires showing an ID when turning in exams. Study Guides are way too long and exams are essay questions. Do NOT take this class.
Absolute worst professor I have ever had the displeasure of experiencing. BIO1010 is an entry level Bio class and she requires us to do 3rd year biology work. Tutors have been stumped by the content. Avoid at all costs.
absolutely ridiculous professor ever!! She is by far the worst professor I have ever had in my whole life. First exam was 7 ch. content and 60 percent of the class failed. Second exam is 9 ch. in content and she expects you to know everything. Final is comprehensive so lets see how many people pass that. STAY AWAY AND DON'T TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!!!!!
ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS FOR A INTRODUCTION TO BIOLOGY CLASS. First exam based on 7 chapters and the same for the second. There is a final paper. Study guide 16 pages. Exam has essay questions. Very fast pace class. More than haft of the class are currently failing her course.
Completely unecessary content for a "principles" class, she thinks that everyone can comprehend at her pace. We cover a chapter a day and every test is absolutely overwhelming, on average, there are more failing grades so far. She makes us read real scientist articles that are like 8pgs long and fine print. To keep it short, "She is not the best"
the class is absolutely ridiculous. covers way too much material for just being an introductory class and over half of the class is failing. very difficult to understand what she teaches. DO NOT TAKE BIOLOGY WITH HER.
DO NOT take biology with her. over half the class is failing, teaching style is a chapter a day and expects you to know every concept and word in depth. very fast paced. study guides are 18 pages long and given two days before the test. worst class I have ever had.

Worse class ever. Never thought a bio class could be that hard. She teaches like if students are scientists. Too much info in just one exam. If you can take another professor please do so
General ed genetics(upper div)...she is a first time teacher. She started with too high expectations, but she has mellowed A LOT (xtra cred, better study guides, etc). She is nice; she just had to learn. Class is still a challenge, but passable. Don't listen to the whining freshmen in other comments-she is worth taking. Intelligent and fair.
I'm a junior and just had this class... by far the most intense class i have ever taken. class average on first test was 30%. And she would not admit her faults. to much detail for an intro class.
Worst Teacher Ever!!!!!!!! This class is too intense for an Intro class! Do yourself a favor and take another class!
She is a new professor and I don't think she understood the concept of an INTRO class. The class started out with over 100 people, & i think only 70 something stayed and like half of those people failed. Ridiculous Testing, she made you put all you things in the front of the class and have ID with you to verify identity. She's nice though.

She was a tuff teacher and she did expect a lot out of you but towards the end she cut everyone some slack. She gave extra credit everyday and she did curve the tests a little and she curved the overall grade for everyone. She did expect a lot out of you but it is not impossible to pass.
Not going to lie it was a difficult class but not immpossible to pass. So basically if you listen in class and read the text you will do fine. Do not take notes unless necesary because they will be posted online.
Very Difficult Class. LOTS to memorize. Must devote time to class. School Board made her curve our grades. Most of class dropped. Go to her office hours and email her as much as possible. know the information inside and out and you'll be fine.
Cooper is a good teacher but she does have high expectations. You need to read the chapter and be in class for the lecture to understand it. The class is not impossible! Just be ready to study. Don't slack off and you'll be fine. She's actually really nice and funny. I had her in my bio lab too. There both passable!
Very hard teacher she expects you to memorize almost the whole book. DONT RECOMMEND taking this class with her. her tests are very hard consisting on 7 chps its insane. her class ruined my life, my gpa average that i even had to change major. more than half of the class failed. she expects us to think like doctors,DONT TAKE HER.
DONT TAKE HER!!!!!!!
Well I tried everything for this class. She told all of us it would be a hard class, so I prepared. Let me tell you, NOTHING worked!! I went to her office hours, emailed her, read the textbook studied for hours even got a tutor and nothing seemed to work! She is a great teacher just not for an Intro class. Use with caution...
Do not take her!!!!!! I tried so hard!!! I studied for like a week and i got 40% on her test! Don't take any classes with her!
This professor is by far the worst professor ever. Her exams are extremely hard you basically have to memorize 7 chapter which is quite impossible especially in an intense course as this one. He lectures are boring she basically reads her power points and thats it. She wont answer questions and she rather you email them to her. Don't take her!!
She is such a mean, hard, rude professor!!!! I hate her!!!!!!!!!!!!
Honestly, her biology class is intense and you have to work extremely hard. Attendance is mandatory because she uses i-clickers, & those questions are worth points. Her exams are challenging even if a study guide has been provided. Oh and lectures are a chapter per day! But I took advantage of her extra credits, which gave me an A in her class. :)
Don't take this teacher if science is your weakest subject! She expects you to know everything and teaches things that are too detailed for an intro class. She makes you feel dumb if you don't know the answers to her questions. There are better biology teachers out there, stay away from this one.
She is a good teacher. I took her six week summer course, which covered 26 chapters and I recieved an A. You have to go to class and take notes, if something is on the test that she did not cover in notes she will tell you. She graded our class test on a curve so that is like a free handout. You need to go to her for help. I would take her again.
She is not a bad professor. Shes a fair tester, nice and funny. People often rate her bad just cuz they didn't study. Class is a challenge, but an A is definitely within reach if u keep up. College isn't meant to be a walk in the park after all.
She is a good teacher in the fact that she really knows what she is talking about. Definitely a difficult class..I'm an A student and I am working my booty off for a low B...you have to study every week, you can't count on cramming. Go to her office for help! She will remember you and will help you on your grade. She's helpful and nice.
Most people don't like her but she's actually a very good teacher. She knows what she's talking about. She is actually nice and funny. Most students that dont like her are ones who dont study or try. She doesnt take attendance but you miss so much info if you dont go. I've taken her for 2 semester and am taking her for a 3rd one next semester! :)
Not a science guy, but I was able to pull out an A in her class by attending every class and taking good notes. You have to study for this class, but she is by far the only professor that makes it possible to do well in this course. Her grading criteria is fair, and she gives plenty of opportunity for extra credit.
Dr. Cooper may be one of the best teachers I've ever had! She's fantastic at explaining difficult concepts, and if you go in her office hours, she'll do anything to help you study better. Science is a hard subject, period. Dr. Cooper will put in just as much effort as you will when it comes to your grade, but you HAVE to put in the effort
i AM AN HONEST PERSON, scored 160LSAt. This class with the amount of work in it should be 5 units. Lots of mandatory group work, and HW.Power points are loaded and not available on BB(one class session 5 pgs of notes).Cooper learn to be effective and place PP on BB so that people can actually listen to you lecture.Otherwise get a recorder students.
She's heartless when it comes to valid excuses for unattending class. In terms of material, she is thorough in her own realm of the word. If you miss a note from her non-student provided ppt..good luck figuring it out. No computer use or electronics allowed. Tests are based on lecture not ppt but what she verbally says. Study sessions & hwk req'd
Yes, her class is hard, but this is college! Dr Cooper is a great professor. She's available during office hours to help and she's more than willing to clarify difficult concepts. You just have to be willing to put forth the effort. Also, if you still write down all the words on a ppt, then you haven't developed your note taking skills enough
I don't usually follow these ratings because professors that don't require a lot of work usually get higher ratings (regardless of their teaching skills). But when I saw Dr. Cooper's was so low I had to comment. She's a great teacher! She's so knowledgable and is very good at explaining things so you can understand them. She's a fantastic professor
she is a great teacher! she will not give out easy A's and if that is your expectation as a science major then reconsider your degree. She is very organized, thorough, and helpful. Her lecture exams were fairly easy, lab practicals are hard! But nothing unexpected. Anyone that left a bad rating most likely failed her class due to their own laziness
Dr Cooper is a good professor but she is very hard! The lab exams are not too difficult but the lab practicals are super hard. She picks very small details so make sure to pay attention to that. I enjoyed the class and learned a lot from her!
Dont take this class!!!!!
Her test's are hard, but if you actively listen to her during lecture, you'll get the A. She's really sweet and approachable and extremely smart. She loves people who work hard and have a curious mind. She's one of the best teachers at this CSU Stanislaus. However, if your lazy, get yourself out of the class. This is class is for learning.
This class is very time consuming and if you don't have the time to dedicate to it then I suggest you drop it. Her exams are tough but fair. Quizzes in lab are difficult but the labs are not too bad. Overall she is a tough teacher. Good luck.
I took Intro to Genetics with Dr. Cooper and I have to admit that at first, I did not like her class. But at throughout the semester, I realized she is such a sweetheart and definitely wants her students to succeed. I took her for Evolution, as well. Yes her classes are a lot of work, a lot dedication required but she is more than happy to help :)
The worst professor I've ever had!! Terrible at teaching and runs her intro class as if it was a major course!! She has unrealistic expectations, ridiculous lectures and HW! DONT TAKE HER, TRUST ME!!!!
Take her classes if you want to learn! Dr. Cooper is one of the best professors the university has! Her teaching style is very conceptual, and she really turns you into experts. Her exams test your knowledge and primarily come from Powerpoints, and it helps to skim the chapters before and after she teaches the material.
Dr. Cooper is an awesome professor! She is tough but she makes this class interesting! You will learn so much from her and she keeps the class entertaining with her jokes! You do have to study but hey its college not high school.
Over all this class was hard to grasp. There was no real preparation for her quizzes. She makes the questions way more complicated than they need to be. The quiz questions and the iclicker questions are made harder than they have to be. The final is a presentation, very easy to do, and there's a written summary, which is pretty straight forward.
Dr. Cooper is an extremely knowledgeable teacher; she presents material very well and can be very engaging in lecture. However, she has a problem with the boys. She absolutely favors them. If you aren't one of her favorites, expect half credit on many assignments. She is absolutely brutal. The grade you get doesn't reflect what you learn in class.
As an instructor she follows the rules and is fair to everyone Which I admire. She is funny and easy to talk to and her lectures always have me wanting more! like most science courses it's difficult but do able!
I took human physiology over the summer (6 weeks). The course needs to be your life in such a short time span. I'm a CSU Fresno Dietetics student, but decided to take the course back home in Turlock. Dr. Cooper is hands down THE BEST science teacher I have ever had. She is clear, concise, and teaches with enthusiasm. She is absolutely hilarious.
Her exams are tough, but she is fair and willing to help. There is a poster presentation at the end of the semester.
This class is hard work because the test and quizzes don't coincide with the lecture notes. The book had absolutlely nothing to do with the tests. The lecture notes are very long. Dr. Cooper is a bit brash, but I think if you put in the effort and go to her office hours, she is there for you. There is a mandatory groupposter project at the end.
The lectures were long. Attendance in class is necessary because she will not post her lecture slides online, I would advise staying two weeks ahead of her online modules to be prepared for weekly quizzes. There is a group project at the end of the semester. All that aside, she is very helpful, and willing to help, if you put in the work.
Dr. Cooper is an excellent professor. I admit I did find her intimidating at first, but she's willing to help if you take the time to visit during her office hours. There are quizzes every week, an in-class essay question, and a group project at the end of the semester. Put in the effort and you'll pass easily.
She is a very tough person. Speaks to students as if they are still in middle school but does help when you ask her. I suggest not to take her class because you will not enjoy biology or any other science taught by her.
Class overall was not that hard. Weekly online quizzes that were fairly easy. Last week involves an in-class essay that was challenging if you are unsure of the material. Final was a group project which can be difficult. Fun class with a fun instructor. Would take again
Cooper's class is pretty straight forward. You have an online quiz every weekend which the lectures don't help you for and one group project at the end worth 200 points and an in class assignment that is pointless worth 50 points. Honestly I got a C and never went to class. You can look up all the answers to the quizzes online
Dr. Cooper is a great teacher, this class was very tough but not impossible to ace if you studied. The tests were really really tough, expect A LOT of writing outside of class. I enjoyed this class overall, you will leave with a greater knowledge of population genetics :)
Kind of confusing with instruction. It was difficult to know exactly what was expected without having to ask the professor directly.
Honestly, don't take her. Her instructions are unclear, expectations way too high and she doesn't post/do things when she says she will. But she expects you to stick to her deadlines. Any of her classes have to be your entire life basically (as if you're not taking a full course load with 4-5 other classes). Save yourself the trouble.
Be ready to take a quiz every single week expects sooooo much from you wants every little thing done her way
Dr. Cooper is a great professor and gives clear and concise lectures. She truly knows what she is talking about and she is accesible outside of class. The only downside is that she bases her exams on lecture notes that you can only get if you attend class. Gave 3 exams each sequentially increasing in number of points.
TOO MUCH ON EVERYTHING LOL take if you want to challenge your critiques
She is great at explaining whatever she is teaching. DOWNSIDE is you have write notes as she lectures in which she talks A LOT A LOT. Her exams are so small and they are SO HARD as she also grades them so hard. More than half of the class fails, save yourself from a trouble because her class requires HARD HARD WORK. That is so hard to accomplish
Dr. Cooper is one of the HARDEST professors Ive EVER taken at Stan. Her exams are strictly off lectures. You have to record her and listen to them if you even want to pull a B in the course. Save yourself the trouble and take Dr. Newton whos amazing. Eventhough Dr. Cooper is knowledgeable its not worth the hassle.
Dr cooper lectures are not easy to follow. Its so hard to follow her on the things that are so general in biology. She is so confusing, and on the top students have to scribble bunch of notes until the class ends. Her testing style is bad; her exams are so small and they are written. The exam questions are ridiculous, they are not testing underst
Such a bad teacher! She complicates the simple. It was as if she would rather sound smart to the class than make the material easy to understand. Take Channing or Campos for lab instead! Cooper was not helpful and discouraging. I would not recommend her to any freshman biology majors, I learned that the hard way.
Professor Cooper knows her stuff. I had her for Pop Gen and she explains everything very well and what she goes over in class will be on the tests. Make sure you record her lectures and show up everyday or you will not pass.
Prof Cooper is a very intelligent professor that wants to help students learn more than just surface information. Her humor can be a bit surprising and her teaching style may be off-putting (you do most of the learning outside of class) but the group work did help reinforce the material. Attendance is mandatory. Daily quiz and iClickers.
She is hilarious! Super engaging! I heard a lot of scary things before taking this class but it was great! She expects you to understand the material, but she is very upfront and honest about her expectations. Do your work, listen to her lectures, and you will be just fine!
Textbook only used for online homework or if you needed to read up on a section. Exams are based off of lecture. Record and listen back on her lectures to help for exams! Requires 12-15 hours a week to succeed in her class. Encourages you and others to come to office hours. attendance isn't mandatory but if you don't come you will be very behind.
Dr. Cooper is a professor that you should avoid at all costs. The concept of genetics isnt hard but she really makes it a priority to trick you on the exams and quizzes and even when she speaks. She is very concerned with sounding smart that she confuses you on what shes trying to say. Im a straight A student and she ruined that this semester
I know a lot of people struggle in this class n blame her for it, but from my experience she's a really good professor, its just that you have to pay attention to her lectures more than the class notes. Record her lectures, pay attention in class, and then listen to the recordings n take notes from those n you should be good. U can pass this class.
The tests were not straightforward, half the time they didn't make sense. Also the homework is based off the book and not lecture so I didn't understand any of it either. We weren't able to finish all the chapters yet we still had homework due for those chapters.
Professor Cooper expects her students to read the given online material before class and take a quiz on it. The reading was fairly easy, but very time-consuming. There are i-clicker questions throughout the class period and count towards your grade. You will be in groups for the entire semester, so beware. Cooper is a nice woman, but very tough.
Attendance is mandatory. She's an okay professor wouldn't recommend. There's weekly quizzes. She does explain the instructions of the lab of the day thoroughly and lectures about the topic beforehand.
Attendance is mandatory. She's an okay professor wouldn't recommend. There's weekly quizzes. She does explain the instructions of the lab of the day thoroughly and lectures about the topic beforehand. Be prepared to stress
Really really disliked her class. Weekly quizzes that were kinda difficult. Final practical was super challenging. Super rude in the middle of lab when you need help on something. Takes off points on hw/quizzes for the simplest things. Super passionate about biology but makes it difficult to understand. I would say to take anyone for lab but her.
Cooper undoubtedly is a tough professor. But she absolutely knows how to teach, and she lectures very well and clear. She requires nothing but the best from her students; many do not rise to the challenge.. She gives you the tools and advice to succeed in her class. Trust her, do her study method!!
I'm almost done with my BS in Exercise Science and this is definitely the hardest lab course I've taken. She will ask super specific questions on the weekly quizzes, but nothing that she doesn't present. If you follow along you will do fine. She expects a lot, but is very fair. She can be a bit undermining, but she means the best.
Cooper is one of the rudest professors at stan. Never answers your questions without being rude or disrespectful. She does not care about her students and passing her class is almost impossible. She is never helpful. Would not recommend her to ANYONE.
Quizes are hard and unless you study all week for them and completely understand then you won't get higher than a 6/10 on them. Shes alright as a person but shes very hard to pass.
Honestly, her exams are hard and she does not post her slides so you get nothing. She does actually teach you though. I feel like just by recording all her lectures and actually taking the time to relisten to them and write everything down and keep up with it weekly you can get at least a B. Problem is no one records her lectures, hence the F's.
Really inconsiderate woman. She gave us almost 4 hours of lecture material the week before the final. She makes you pay 80 dollars for online homework which 90% of the material she doesn't cover nor test you on. So the hw is a waste of time but can tank your grade. The other prof is worse so that's the only reason why I took her.
She makes it way harder than it should be. My grade dropped a whole letter grade because of the clicker points and gave me a panic attack every time. Her wording on the tests is crazy and not straightforward and the multiple-choice answers look like they all could be the right answer. I noticed that the evolution professors suck here at Stan.
Pandemic Review: Highly inconsiderate of the current state of the world. Each zoom meeting is worth a large number of points where if you miss one it knocks you down almost a letter grade; and she doesn't even lecture during them. There is no value in the zoom meetings. She's impossible to get in contact with, and she's incredibly condescending.
Took her class during the pandemic. Attendance is mandatory. I appreciate the way she ran the class. At first it seemed like a bit much, but in reality it works well. Each day you answer a few questions based on the learning content through an app, and some days there are quizzes. There are also a handful of simple journal entries you must write.
She expects too much from her students. Her method of teaching is to focus on self learning, why even hold live lectures if we're learning outside of class. Her syllabus states you should put about 8 hours into the course outside of class which is unrealistic if you are a full time student who has to worry about other courses.
Pandemic review: I will say she expects a good amount of information to be known but I understand especially since this class meets two times out of the week for about an hour. A lot of group discussions write down notes. Quizzes aren't bad at all I'd say just listen to her when she speaks. iClicker questions are worth a lot so don't miss class.
Genetics: You have to attend class once a week, take clicker questions that are basically a quiz, and do about 4-5 hours of homework a week (which is mostly pointless), and also watch roughly 1-3 hours of lectures per week which are very informative and then you are quizzed the next class. Shes nice, will help if you ask, but LOTS OF WORK
Professor Cooper is a nice professor. But she makes it hard to understand what shes teaching you. Her video lectures are very long and are hard to stay focused with. She gives clicker questions which are like quizzes because she docs you points for getting them wrong. Genetics is a hard subject in general and prof Cooper makes it a lot harder.
Shes nice when shes happy but she takes everything extremely personally. She always says she is open to feedback or concerns but if you express them she does not react positively (regardless of the feedback).Overall she is out of touch with reality in that she doesnt remember what it was like to be a student. 24-30 hrs a week of studying to her
I took this Population Genetics, this has been one of the most difficult classes in my opinion. The material is not hard, she just makes things harder than they have to be. I do not reccomend her at all. Take a different course, please.
Long lecture vids but content is relevant to iClicker questions which are worth FAR too much, don't skip class or guess on the iC questions. HW is pointless but also worth a lot, exams aren't that bad and only test lecture content. The study plan is not needed. She doesn't grade +/-. The class still takes heavy dedication, just put in the effort.
My advice: stay an hour after class and ask questions. This is the hardest class you'll ever take. Your questions for tutoring will have different answers than what she explains in lecture and audio notes. This class is very difficult! WARNING: DRAW THE DIAGRAMS DURING LECTURE BECAUSE SHE REMOVES THEM WHEN POSTED ON CANVAS. Keep ALL notes organized
discouraging to STEM majors right from the jump. Very full of herself but not a good professor, very rude.
Prof. Cooper is my favorite professor ever. No textbook, easy participation points. Makes things really easy to understand. respond to emails asap. if you don't get an A its because you literally didn't try, She explains concept super clearly.
