Not an easy class, but I learned a lot, improved a lot on my papers. Most of the class is discussion, but do be prepared for pop quizzes
VERY NICE. pretty hard, but you learn alot and shes always willing to help. The more effort you put in, the more she likes you. Keep up with the work though!

If you do poorly in class, it's from lack of effort. She makes you write better if you listen, pay attention and apply what is being taught!

English is English, sucks no matter what, but she is helpful and a bit of a hard grader. I had no problems with her, just be sure to read before each class and be ready for notebook checks.
stay away. she has a POINTLESS writers workshop (notebook) and she tries to tell you how to write, which is frustrating. she wasnt very helpful to me, and i hated the entire course.
lots more papers than most english classes..lots more work and a whole lot of essay pop quizzes. dont take it.

Ricidulously hard, i never thought after being known as a good writer I could get screwed so bad, so many notes, quizzes, essays, wow. watch out
she's great. just do the readings and keep up with the literary logs. tests aren't easy but they aren't hard either. only one paper for the entire semester
She sucks, she just sits at her desk and watches you as you do the tons of work she gives you. The class consists of you sitting there doing tedious work, not getting involoved in discussions or anything.
If you read and keep on literay logs you will do fine.ll's are worth like 25% of your grade.. and its just a collection of your homework.. which will help you study for tests in the long run Class will seem boring if you havent read the assignments

I took her for both 101 and 102. While she IS a tough grader, she trains you in what you ought to be doing to write thoughtful and well supported arguments and papers in the future. Just keep up with the writers workbook.
Prof. Cornette is such a nice lady and I absolutely enjoyed our discussions in class. She grades so hard though! I did not get above a 78 and I'm no dunce when it comes to writing. But, if you go to her with your papers, she will try and help you.

Oh dear god! This class was the most difficult freshman class I took. It is possible to do well in that class but it's a lot of work. If you're looking for an easy ride, it's not here. The assignments are lengthy but not impossible, and I'm a better writer for doing them.
This class was a lot of work but the readings are good so homework can be enjoyable. Class discussions were interesting, and she was a great teacher whose high expectations were understandable. The only people who don't like her are ones who did bad in her class because they didn't do the work.
nice teacher...but lots of work! make sure you keep up with the Writers Workbooks! she gives several pop quizzes on readings so make sure u keep up on the work! not impossible class...but its challenging!

Hard Class but definately worth it. Class discussions are the best and the readings are really enjoyable. People say she's the hardest in the dept. but she really is helpful with any paper you bring to her, even ones that aren't from her class!

In a word, "terrible". Left a sour taste in my mouth for English, all of her opinions are carbon copies of commentary one would find in any literary anthology, uncompromising and cold, her way or the highway. Trust me... take the highway!

This was definitely one of my harder classes. Make sure you do the work and study hard for the tests! Study very hard...
Very difficult to work with and highly moody. If she doesnt like you it will reflect in your grade. The final was impossible and the entire class laughed when she handed it out.
I apparently am in the minority, being a serious student interested in furthering my education & expanding my mind that is. She is an excellent instructor, possibly the best I've ever had. She takes her job seriously & is versed. She is not "easy," but is that really the point of going to college?
Oh my god, nothing was EVER good enough to get an A. I'm awesome at English but never succeeded getting anything over a B+, even if I conformed to her writing style.

She's a tough grader, but offers many chances for extra credit. Have to write a short essay for every class. It takes work, but if you actually try you will do well. She's a really nice person and makes you think.
Boring, and she prescribes a ridiculous amount of work for a 200-level class. To be fair, she does know what she's talking about, and takes her job very seriously. Too seriously.

If you want a professor that is easy for the first two weeks and then is the worst professor ever for the reast of the semester, get Cornette.
She is absolutely the hardest professor I have ever had. She grades way too hard and nothing is ever good enough to get an A. If she doesn't like you, you're screwed.
arrgh! she was so difficult! not only that but she was disorganized. i had her last semester and she was much better. i have no idea what happened. if she would explain things better, clarify due dates and stop being so demanding then her class would be sooo much better!
I like this teacher even though she's somewhat difficult. If you go to her for help she's willing and able to. Some of the grammar exercises were unecessary for sophomores in college but other than that her class was interesting if you like America Childhood.
Mrs. Cornette is a fun teacher, but watch out! She is a hard grader- you really need to know your stuff in her class!

She is an AMAZING teacher! She is sooo helpful. If you're unsure about something GO TO HER and SHE WILL HELP! I took her for 2 classes and got an A- in one and a B+ in the other. I HIGHLY recommend her
If you can take 208 with another professor, I'd recommend it. While she is friendly, she is a tough grader and not in a super helpful way like some tough graders. Classes and discussions are not very focused.

My hardest class of the semester and probably the year. While you can tell she loves English and seems helpful, she's pretty unclear about a lot of things and there is a TON of work. I don't think I've ever written so much B.S. papers in my life! Try to find another professor if you can...
HATE HER! don't take her if you don't have to. makes comments on papers that have nothing to do with the papers. she's just ridiculous.

I really enjoyed her class! Yes...it was a lot of work, however, she is clear and concise with what she wants and her teaching style is down-to-earth. As long as you stay on top of the work for the class you will do great! THIS IS NOT A CLASS FOR SLACKERS! Serious students only!!! Bad comments were made by slackers! She is an amazing person!

Great teacher, class consisted of a 200 word work journal that was due for most every class revolving around the classes discussion topic. Four papers for the semester of roughly 1000 words. A few quizes to make sure youve been paying attention that were easy. As longs as you do your WJ and the papers you can earn an A no problem.
Very, very intelligent, however she is the hardest grader I've encountered so far at CNU. Put alot of time into your papers, and be really careful about plagiarism-she will not hesitate to contact judicial and get you in trouble, I can speak from personal experience on that. again, she's very smart, but be careful

way too much work for a mandatory class, i was not interested at all in english coming in and having her has increased this hatred, we had a writer's journal (300+ words)due every class, and you have to understand it b/c she WILL call on you, large papers 4x per semester, overall, dont take it
She treats you like you are 5 years old. She is annoying and says the word OK 200 times a class, i counted. Incredibly boring class but easy.

I took ULLC 223- Political Cartoons with her. It seemed like an interesting topic but turned out to be the hardest course I've taken here. She is a very hard grader on essays and there is a lot of writing. I regret taking this class with her. She is willing to meet with you but she still grades tough. Get out now or best of luck.

Here is how her assignments go: 600 word limit...explain, in exact detail, how the universe works. She grades incredibly hard for things not relevant to your paper. I would never take her again.

She is a tough grader and is very dry when presenting material to the class. She is nice, but she will treat her students as if they were kindergartners. It is difficult to get above a "C" in the class.
Knows what she's doing, but is hard to get above a C in that class. Not fair grading on papers. Takes off for the littlest things. Have to conform your writing to her likings whether it was how you learned it in high school or not. Doesn't give good praise as much as bad. You always can improve on your stuff, nothing is ever good enough for her.
Not as bad as some of the other reviewers were saying. Definitely not my favorite though. Her grading on papers is wonky, and I maintained a B on every paper - same percentage. She doesn't really give any good criticism to build off of in her comments. She's nice, but pretty mediocre. Getting on her good side will help.
Graded EXTREMELY unfair, not helpful not much feedback, I felt like she made up a lot of petty excuses to give me low grades and couldn't back her reasons up legitimately. Didn't really learn much, dreaded going to her class. DON'T TAKE HER CLASS!
Could not believe this class. I hated the class, and she hated me. She gave everybody bad grades and treated us like 5th graders. I am not terrible at English but I didnt deserve a C or a D on papers I spent hours on. I altered my writing style 3 different times and she hated all of them. I dreaded going to this class, when I asked about my paper, which had one mark on it, I wanted to know how to improve my writing or what to change to get an A, I got the answer of you had the highest grade in the class you did a great job. Very difficult professor if you tickle her the wrong way. She is very difficult to get clear help from and on top of that is a ridiculously hard grader. I survived by getting help from other professors and english majors. If you get stuck with her like I did, then I suggest you do the same.

I don't think she is as bad as everyone says. She is definently a good professor and knows what she is talking about. She does grade pretty hard, but if you come to her for help or go to her office hours before your papers are due, she will help you fix things and give great advice! I wold highly suggest that.
An excellent professor, possibly a harsh grader at times, but a fair one. Required us to put in effort for our grades.
Told me I was too direct in my essays and that I should fluff them up to make them longer and less informational based - the opposite of what every professor actually wants. When I asked her about things, her responses included, "you should know what to do by this point. its too easy." the less effort i put into her class the better I did.
