Do not take this course. Try to get any other chemistry professor you can. Not confident in lectures. When asked a question, she seems to get frustrated. There are times where she cannot answer questions, and then she explains how we should already know it. She expects too much for what she teaches.
If you don't need chemistry for your career or future, avoid this professor like the plague. She makes you memorize an extremely unreasonable amount of material, gives very fast paced lectures, and will not give back quizzes or exams unless you go to her office hours. Prof. Cruz's exams are very hard and she expects way too much from her students.
This was the worst class I have ever taken. She goes super fast and does not let you do the calculations without her clearing the page. If you ask questions she gets annoyed. DO NOT TAKE HER if you want to learn and understand chemistry.
Honestly the worst professor I have ever had. She is not a good teacher, and it seems as if she does not care whether or not her students do well. She loads her tests with material she barely teaches. There have been times when she was also unable to answer example questions during lecture. Terrible don't take her.
Its simple she just doesn't know how to teach a class. She knows her stuff but doesn't know how to explain them at all. If you go to her office hours she makes you feel dumb. She makes a lot of mistakes. Good Luck go get your self a tutor.
This is a tough course. But I wouldn't place the blame on the professor. The material is plentiful and the course is fast paced. But this is a college level course. If you want the A, you will have to work for it. Her exams are extremely similar to her weekly quizzes and practice exams.
The videos she posts are useful and helpful.
Faced paced class but always available in office hours to answer questions.
This is arguably one of the hardest classes I've taken, but I also feel like I have learned a tremendous amount. This class was a major (and rocky) adjustment for me, as you need to study a lot for her exams. She lectures very quickly, but is always available at office hours. She drops the lowest exam and quiz grades. Just study and you'll be fine
It was hard at the beginning of the semester because I am was not used to her teaching style and taking college classes, but since I have put more time into studying, I am doing much better and learning alot.
Tough professor. Found that I was teaching myself more than what I learned in class. Is possible to get an A if you put in the time to study and teach yourself the material.
Professor Cruz is capable of teaching some of the material. She is unable to explain thoroughly, every new concept we learn and often skips attempting to do so. Be prepared to teach yourself the material on your own time unless you've taken chemistry before. She's very respectable as well.
Although she's a bit monotone, and may not be the best lecture-er, her class is not difficult to pass. Her quizzes are pretty straightforward, and her exams are basically exactly the same as the practice exams she gives, and she gives us a notecard. She's understanding and willing to meet outside of class. Overall, not terrible.
Easy A. gives practice exams and uses that same exam with different numbers for the real exam. Notecards are allowed for every exam. quizzes are only 2 questions. no multiple choice on the exams which sound hard but it actually made it so much easier. Extra credit available. didnt buy the book and i was fine
this is the worst teacher you can take, she doesnt know how to teach. Does not answer your questions when you have them, and gives a quiz every single week. Your'e better off using your notes from her class as tissues because they will not help you with anything.
She recently re took her chemistry exam to see how much she knows as a teacher.... she got a 64. That should say it all
Professor Cruz's lectures are extremely boring & is very rude to students. She does allow notecards on exams, but only to write definitions & equations. She does offer a few extra credit assignments and drops the lowest quiz and test, but you will need it. If you can do the practice exams, you will be fine. Not horrible, but I would not recommend.
Able to use notecard on tests. Drops lowest test grade. 1 question quizzes worth 20 points. Do the practice exams before the test and if able to understand it then get an A since it's the same thing with different numbers. Not very cheerful and very monotone in lecture. Fill in note packets are nice. Go to class. Gives full credit for in class ws.
Professor Cruz may seem a bit rough around the edges at first, but she really does know what she's talking about. She gets called mean by many, but I don't see it. She just wants the best for her class. I learned a lot about the course of Chemistry from her. She taught me how to do Stoichiometry, which was very complicated to me.
This class is very tough, especially for someone who is not so good at chemistry. Professor Cruz is a tough grader and does not make this class easier in any way. She does put practice exams online which helped some people prepare for the exams. Would not take this professor again.
professor cruz writes on her ipad and then scrolls past the notes too fast, making it impossible to take thorough notes in class. she also gets annoyed when you dont understand and ask questions. if you go to her office hours for help, she just yells at you and makes you feel stupid. her class is ridiculous.
If you care your mental health, don't even try to take her class. She doesn't even respect her students.
The way she explains the concepts are incomprehensible to anyone but herself. Going to her office hours doesn't even help. Her tests are still extremely difficult even though she allows you to bring a notecard, and you will need to put forth an insane amount of time to study for them. If chem is confusing for you at all dont take her!
Professor Cruz could sometimes come off as a little rude, but she was a nice person if you did your prelab & wore the right lab attire (don't forget goggles!). She always wrote out tips for how to do calculations for the labs on the board and said if there would be a quiz next class. Once you got down the layout for lab reports, you were solid.
Professor Cruz has to be the absolute worst professor I have ever had. Her lectures are so fast, so definitely print her online outlines before class. She also is terrible at anything that requires an explanation. It's either her way or you're wrong. The only good thing is that majority of the test study guides are exactly like the study guides.
Prof Cruz is nice but shes not super enthusiastic in general and students usually take that as her being mean but shes not. Her lecture exams/final are nearly identical to the practice exams she gives and quizzes are taken from notes/textbook. She makes you really earn your grades, so be prepared to work hard/teach yourself material.
Professor Cruz is a great teacher if you already have a firm understanding of the material and learn best by going through topics very briefly. She does not review for tests or quizzes and has a tendency to say that you will not need to know a certain topic for the test, when in fact you do. She lets you bring a notecard into tests which is good.
She literally gives review sheets that are the test, which is all you need to study before the exam.
Prof Cruz can be intimidating at first but her quizzes come straight from her notes which are posted online. she posts a practice exam for every exam which are identical to the exam, just with different numbers. if you study the practice exam, you will succeed. Highly recommend taking Cruz.
She is intimidating but in the end, wants her students to succeed. Exams are identical to practice exams posted online which helped a ton. You were also allowed a notecard. She gave practice quizzes on each topic every week which was nice for extra practice. She definitely goes fast during lectures, but the notes are online.
If you read one review here read this one Cruz involves a lot of studying and teaching yourself out of class. But her practice exams are almost identical to her actual exams which makes it very very easy to succeed in her class. Focus on taking the practice exam and doing it right and then weekly easy quizzes and you will get an A NO GROSSO for 111
Professor Cruz was by far the best chemistry professor I've ever had!
If you read any review, read this one. This class was terrible. I drove to class everyday without my seatbelt on hoping I would get into a head on collision so I wouldn't have to show up. DO NOT TAKE. But, if you do, pay attention to the practice exams.
she is very nice. i loved her she is so accessable. tough grader but a great teacher.
I found it hard to stay focused in her class as she would just stand at the front of the class and talk at you and read off her notes. Her practised tests are very similar to her actual tests so revise from them. I wouldn't advise taking her but its not the end of the world if you do get her as she is a nice lady. minimal homework.
Professor Cruz is one of the worst teachers I have ever experienced. Her lectures make no sense unless you completely understand chem so if you arent a chem major DO NOT take her. She thinks everyone understands chem so she gets confused when people ask her questions. Almost makes you feel stupid. You will have to teach yourself this course.
Professor Cruz was very nice and helpful however she did go at a very quick pace and gave a lot of quizzes.
Her study guides are the test the only thing that changes are the numbers. Do the homework and study guides and you will get an A. She also quizzes on every topic which was a helpful check in so I knew what I had to study. I was terrible at chem in high school and I succeeded in this class, despite all the other ratings take cruz!
Prof Cruz does go through the material fast but gives you a lot of opportunities to do well. There's recorded lectures on blackboard for every topic you go through and the online homework helps your understanding a lot. The tests are very straightforward and almost exactly like the practice test she posts to help study from.
she's a literal robot and doesn't care about what you may be going through. She doesn't teach or explains things, she will just continue to repeat what she has written in her little notes. She goes way to fast and doesn't even give you a chance to catch up.
The lectures are fast paced and all you do is copy every word she writes down without much questions or answers
Definitely take Professor Cruz, she might seem intimidating but she has so many resources that will help you succeed. However, I definitely recommend taking notes in the Cengage textbook before lecture week, because it makes the material so much easier to understand and does lots of practice problems. Also, she does go through lectures quite fast.
Professor Cruz is very fast with lectures, but is always willing to give extra help when you reach out. Her exams are exactly like the practice exams and all of her lectures are available through recordings and she writes out the notes and posts them on Blackboard.
The lectures definitely went a bit quick, but Professor posted them on blackboard which was helpful. She was good at answering questions and her feedback was helpful.
Horrible. Extremely rude. Treated me like garbage. Her tests are hard but manageable. But her lectures are quick and her voice is boring so beware of a morning class (you may fall asleep). I have never felt more disrespected than by this woman. DO NOT TAKE HER.
Horrible. Absolutely Horrible. I have never seen a more miserable human in my life. She sucks the soul out of my day. I am so thankful that the semester is over. She lectures so fast and the exams are horrendous. Beware of this professor and whatever you do, DONT TAKE HER!! I recommend anyone else.
Idk why everyone is saying bad things about her, she was great. Every lecture is recorded, filled in notes are posted, and practice exams are very similar to real exams. Yes she was fast, but if you take the time outside of class to review the material and DO THE PRACTICE PROBLEMS you should do fine. Notecards on exams are nice too. Take her
Cruz is an interesting woman. She grades and answers emails fast, but she lectures quite quickly. Her assessments can be very technical and designed to trip people up. She is not an easy professor and can be quite blunt at times but if you put the time in you can get through the class. From what I gather she is one of the better chem professors.
She's an okay professor but she can be a bit indelicate at times. She lectures and grades quickly. The lectures are recorded, so you can always go back if you miss something. Her exams are almost identical to the practice ones, but she does take off a lot of points here and there, and doesn't have a clear grading scheme for them.
Prof Cruz is very patient and was super nice! She is very accommodating, the tests are not too hard you get to have a notecard -- will extend if you need more time for hws. She teaches fast, because there is a lot of content to cover for the semester.
Barely teaches the information and the whole year is super rushed. Doesn't explain the information correctly and can be rude if you don't understand.
Professor Cruz is very intelligent and does a great job lecturing in class. She also records all her lectures and posts them which is very helpful. This class is a very tough class in general. She does not grade curves but gives practice exams which are very helpful.
Prof. Cruz is a very smart woman; she knows exactly what she is talking about and is always willing to answer any questions you have. Chem is a hard class but Cruz made it bearable. As long as you stay on top of your work and ask questions you will be okay.
She can seem a little cold sometimes, but she's a kind person. Pay attention in lecture and practice the types of problems the lecture covers. You don't need to read the textbook. The most important thing is making sure you understand what needs to be memorized (ions, metric conversions), and what will be provided on the test (periodic table)
I just took her for CHE 110 and got an A. She gives practice exams that are identical to the actual exams, if not harder than the actual exams, so if you pay attention in class, take notes, and study the practice tests, you can easily get an A. Also, if you finish the course with an A you get exempt from the final which is super motivating.
She means well, but she's just a rushed, lousy professor. Take a different class, and don't take her zoom one. Also if submit the wrong doc on the blackboard, you get a fat 0 because "you should be more careful."
Lectures are pretty much just sitting there taking notes copying what she puts on the board. She records all lectures and posts them as well as copies of the filled in notes which was very helpful. Tests and quizzes were exactly like practice exams just slightly different numbers so it is easy to study by just doing the practice tests a few times.
Professor Cruz is not the worst but she's also not the best. The only thing i liked about her class was how her practice exams were identical to her tests. She's very vague and each class you just sit down and write notes.
The worst professor in my college experience. Cruz expects you to walk into her class as a chemist knowing everything about chemistry. The average for our first exam was a 35% and Cruz was so disappointed, she is emotionless and so rude. She lets you have a flashcard for exams, but will take it away if there is information that is not allowed on it
Professor Cruz does not care about her students. Her lectures are long and boring and she rushes through things. You cannot reach her through email at all. Exams are difficult but exactly like the practice.
CHE110 was an easy class for me and I finished with a 98 in the class; I was prepared and ready for CHE111. Cruz is obnoxious, boring, and has no connection with any of her students. Quizzes every Friday and she doesn't tell you what they are on. Her grading is so unfair and she is crazy disorganized. Had to rely on the peer fellow for everything.
The professor does teach well and goes through her outlines, however the tests although are similar to the exams, they are tough. Hopefully the final gets curved.
Class was very disorganized. She was very condescending regarding incorrect answers. Lectures were hard to follow. Difficult quiz every Friday and grades participation. Exams were very similar to posted practice exams but her work was hard to follow and often included many errors. I Heavily relied on the peer fellow.
I did not have chemistry experience going in, which made this class a lot harder. However, often times I felt that Cruz rushed through certain topics and seemed condescending when someone answered a question wrong. This made me feel uncomfy to participate because I already felt dumb in class. She is very smart, I just wish i had a better experience
Don't know why she gets a bad wrap. She is a pretty good teacher and the practice exams on Blackboard are extremely similar to the real exams. Study off those and you'll do great in the class. I'm taking her again for CHE111.
I took the online class, and I was so grateful I didn't have to have her in person. She would talk for a long time, sometimes would let us get out early but her class was boring. I had more homework in this class than I had in my actual major classes. Really boring.
She just seemed like she didn't want to be there and teach us, I can tell she has a passion for the subject, but teaching it isn't her strong suit. Classroom was quite unengaging and I got eaten alive by the course and the course mentor.
Professor Cruz is not that bad she may come off a bit arrogant or harsh in the beginning. She gives practice exams that are similar to the real ones, but you really just have to know how to do the equations and know the exam questions and the practice question worksheets and study and you'll be fine
Her class was pretty straight forward for being an online class in terms of the lectures and assignments. However getting the book and navigating my diet analysis was very confusing and she did not add much help. I wish there was a better explanation as I would have gotten a better grade.
Cruz is very difficult, especially for tests. She doesn't give partial credit, and there are no extra credit assignments or curve. She answers questions, but she does NOT use lecture slides. You do example problems all class, and there is NO multiple choice on exams, it is ALL open-ended. If you have a strong foundation in chem you will do okay.
Uses outlines that don't match up to textbook. Very disorganized on blackboard and strict on exams. Practice exams are nothing like the actual ones. Moves at a quick pace if you can handle that. Can be nice at times but you never really know. Acts like the whole class knows the entire textbooks by heart when explaining concepts.
She was okay for the most part, but I dont think I would take her again if given the chance. She was a little too serious for my liking and she put way too much material on the final exam. I was doing super well in the course before the final exam took that away from me. I suggest that you take another professor other than Cruz for quality.
You really need to study for her class, go to her office hours she's more than happy to work with you, practice exams are nearly identical to the actual exams so they are worth doing. She has upward mobility too which is nice, she gets bad rep because her exam are on the tougher side but if you study and do the practice exams you should be ok.
She's a very nice professor. I had her both for CHE110 and CHE111. IDK why she has a bad reputation. Pratice exams are very helpful and she goes over everything in class. If you have a strong foundation in chemistry you'll do just fine with her.
Jennifer cruz is a great chemistry professor to take If you have a background in chemistry from high school. She moves sorta fast in class but gives you a blank outline for you to fill out as she goes. Her practice test are almost identical to the test. She gives very little homework. all homework is due by the end of the semester not the chapter.
Honestly I think some of these reviews are a bit harsh. Prof. Cruz really isn't that bad. If you pay attention and show you care she will want to help you but if you goof off she won't be as likely to offer help. I felt her exams were fair and she offers like 4 different extra credit assignments for your final exam. don't panic, its gonna be ok!
Online class. A lot of work but very easy. 3 tests plus the final. All open book.
She sometimes knows what she's talking about but if you do the work you'll be fine.
She does upward mobility; this took me a long way as I improved throughout the semester. She has extra credit assignments. She rounds your grade up if you participate a lot. She drops the lowest quiz grade. Her exams are almost identical to the practice exams. VERY lecture heavy and talks fast during lectures.
She had good lecture outlines you can get. Her tests are just like her practice tests but if you get small things wrong she does take off quite a bit of points. She takes off your lowest quiz score, has upward mobility on her exams, and you're allowed a notecard. She also has some opportunities for extra credit and was really nice in office hours.
While this class was very very easy, Prof. Cruz was constantly so boring, and she never tried to engage us. It was an easy A, and I would take it for an easy class.
cruz is honestly really boring but her class is easy. it is super lecture heavy but as long as you understand the practice exams you'll get atleast an 80 on the test. if you don't have a strong foundation in chem you're probably gonna struggle. she does upwards mobility, gives you a note card, and opportunity for 10 extra credit points on final
she is so so boring during lab. she yaps about nothing for way too long. she also forces you to print and hand in every single lab and grades them super harshly. i don't recommend her for lab only lecture
