Dr. Cummings' lectures were clear & not long at all(no more than 1 hour even though the class is supposed to be 1.5 hours long). Readings are not important. If you don't understand something talk to her after class she'll explain it well! Just go to class and fill the slides in and if you understand the concepts you will do well on both tests!

One of my favorite professors at UM! Prof Cummings is really friendly, extremely helpful and approachable outside of the classroom. The class is challenging but the material is really interesting. If you attend lecture and study for the exams you will succeed in this course. I would definitely recommend this course with Prof Cummings!

I took Sex Differences in Brain, Behavior and Disease with Prof Cummings over the summer and it was such a fun class! Prof Cummings is a great lecturer, and I loved the mix of in class discussion and guest lecturers too. Definitely my favorite class at UM so far.

As other reviews have said the exams are tough, especially the first one because you don't know exactly what to expect, but I think as a University of Michigan student I appreciated being held to a high standard.

Professor Cummings is a wonderful woman. She is very passionate about the brain, which makes lectures much more enjoyable. She gets all giddy and excited about certain material and digresses in lecture sometimes which actually helps keep the students engaged. Tests are tough though. They were open ended and the criteria was unclear.

If you're neurodivergent in any way and have to take a psych class she's honestly the best. She's very receptive to student feedback and really willing to talk about ableism, and she was very respectful about it all.

Dr. Cummings is great for student's who aren't actually studying psych. She's interesting and fast paced but she knows her stuff. The tests are a little hard because she takes really specific, nit-picky info off lecture slides so you have to study a lot and know all the details if you want to do really well on exams.

Developing Brain was a good class. The material could be a bit dry at times, but Dr. Cummings made it better than most other professors would. Exams are a little difficult - they're long and a little too open-ended for my liking, but they aren't too bad with some studying. Dr. Cummings lectures very fast so do not attempt taking notes by hand! Download the slides and add to them on your laptop. You don't need the book at all, exams come completely from the slides. If you study often and do well with memorization, you should have no problem getting an A. Loved her and this class!

I took PSYCH 220, and the class was very easy. Professor Cummings teaches using slides, and everything that's possible to be on an exam is on said slides. With this in mind DO NOT BUY THE BOOK. I got an A- in the class and didn't once open up the textbook which was "required" for the class. Group projects are also interesting and pretty easy.

Just had Dr Cummings for Developing Brain and she was awesome. Super funny in class, met with me a number of times out of class for help. I didn't think I was going to like class and I totally did, thanks to her.

I had Psych 220 with professor Cummings and it was a great class. Overall the instruction is very good, and Dr. Cummings tries to make otherwise boring info interesting. Exams are long and there's a ton material covered but if you study the lectures you'll be fine.

Professor Cummings really cares about her students. She will meet with you whenever you need to answer all of your questions. Her exams are challenging, but if you study and understand the material, then you will do well! There are no surprises in this class, and the information is actually super cool!

Professor Cummings was such a great professor. She was super articulate and explained everything in detail and is clearly and expert in the subject. She was super enthusiastic and personable which was refreshing. Grading was a little harder than expected but not too bad.

Dr. Cummings is super sweet and also really funny. However, her exams are a bit ridiculous. She doesn't give any guidelines as to what you should be studying (her answer is everything) and its SO much information which makes it nearly impossible to memorize every detail, but if you don't memorize everything then you won't do well on exams

I have Intro Biopsych with Dr. Cummings and its awesome. Theres for sure a ton of work but her lectures are great and put together in a really understandable way. Its also clear she actually cares how we do and focuses a lot on studying and study techniques, which is really nice. Challenging, but worth it.

Loved taking 331 with Dr. Cummings. The Lab I was in was super fun, and even though the writing part was a lot of work it totally wasnt bad for a ULWR. Definitely recommend! :)

If you thought this class was hard, grow up. It is not nearly as bad as biochem just saying. The material is relevant, interesting, and applicable. Exams are more than fair. It tests key concepts while memorizing specific nomenclature is not necessary. Grading is VERY fair 70/30 Lecture/Discussion. Thank you Professor Cummings (& the amazing GSIs)!

Dr. Cummings is great and the material was presented and tested fairly. If you think it was too hard, you may want to reconsider Neuroscience as a field. Or suck it up.

Good intro class. Difficult material but it was explained clearly. Went to professor and GSI office hours and both were really helpful. Tests are challenging but fair. Would definitely take a class with Dr. Cummings again.

Dr. Cummings was a good instructor, although she explained certain topics better than others and had a tendency to rush through certain topics. She was open to questions and answered them well, and you could tell she wanted us to do well. Exams were long, but they were never tricky and were a fair representation of material covered in lecture.

Psych230 with Dr. Cummings was one of my favorite classes! The material was interesting and challenging, but manageable. And you have to actually understand things for the exams so it takes some studying, but its not tricky. Definitely worth it!

Dr. Cummings is such a terrific person. However, this class was semi disappointing. Everything is taught at the intro level. She never goes that in depth with topics so I felt like I didn't learn very much from the class. Exams aren't bad but sometimes questions can be vague or are easily misinterpreted.

I loved Hormones and Behavior with Prof Cummings! The material was really cool and her lectures are always good (I had her for 230 too). Im glad there are 3 tests because there was so much material. Didnt love the group projects but oh well. Good class overall.

Dr. Cummings has sincerely been one of my favorite professors at Michigan, and her teaching of this course is no exception. She came well-prepared every class to teach the lecture, was passionate about the material, and encouraged engagement between students.

Dr. Cummings is a very knowledgable professor and studies biopsychology. She can answer most questions and tells a lot of funny and all-too-familiar stories. As someone with little college background in biology/chemistry, I was able to follow along well as long as I studied hard at least a week in advance. I'd recommend her for PSYCH220.

You may find mixed reviews on this prof because the course is not a super easy A compared to some other psych classes. However, do the work and you will do great! I've taken an upper level psych class and psych 230, both featured exams that are short answer. The professor has awesome and interesting lectures, exams ask you to interpret the material

really good class but be ready to put the time in (i.e. make flashcards and start studying week before at least), if you're not passionate about the topic this class isn't an easy A like other 200 psych classes, talks SO FAST in lecture, heard bad things about grading in past but had no issues

I enjoyed this class with Dr. Cummings so much I made sure to take another class with her. Although she is a bit of a tough grader she explains material very well and keeps you engaged. She is incredibly easy to approach and is very open-minded. Work load is very do-able, especially if you pay attention in class.

I had professor Cummings in the Spring for topics in bio-psych, the class itself was extremely easy there were quizzes every week but if you attend lecture regularly you will do fine. She is a great teacher and very down to earth!

People complain that 430 is more like MCDB and "too hard" for the psych dept. but Dr. Cummings will go above and beyond to help students understand material and succeed in class. I'm just finishing Sex Differences in Brain & Behavior with Dr. Cummings and it was great. I loved the organization (it's flipped-classroom format) and incorporates social and cultural influences on health and medicine that you don't get from a lot of other classes. It's kept small, so lots of opportunities for great discussion. Great class!

I have had Professor Cummings for two classes now, and she is always amazing and keeps the material interesting. I really appreciate how she is attentive to everyone's needs but also pushes up to learn more and participate.

Exams were tough for me bc it was purely memorising 300 slides per exam && she has a relatively strict grading criteria. As a prof, shes fun and interactive; however at the end of the term, I asked her about grades & curves n stuff & she just walked away from me once she got sick of me lol. the class is fun tho. hard work but rlly interesting

I absolutely loved Dr. Cummings. Her class was interesting and engaging and she made an effort to build our understanding of Biopsych in a way in which we could connect it to real experiences and to use in daily life. She may come off as intense, however, she is more than willing to answer questions if you ask.

Cummings is great for psych 331! She is super accessible outside of class and gives great feedback. Her lectures are interesting and usually end early which is nice. The class overall is a big time commitment (8-10 hours/week in lab, 2 hour lecture every week, and a 15 page paper) but you learn a lot and it was enjoyable.

Dr. Cummings is my fav professor at UMich! I've had her twice and she's been great for both classes (I also had her for 230). Her exams are long and you do have to learn all the info from lectures. But she's super willing to meet outside of class to answer questions which is great. I definitely recommend taking a class with her if you can!

Professor Cummings was prepared and passionate about the subject material. The class isn't super difficult, but definitely not easy studying for the exams due to the open-ended question format and that we were expected to be "responsible for everything on the (dense) slides." Especially since the slides were around 50 slides per lecture.

This class has three exams and there is no reviews for any. You have to memorize all the slides in prep for majority short answer exams with a few MC/fill in the blank ?s. The content is great but preparing for the exams was super difficult and unguided. GSIs were also taking off points for ridiculous things. I loved the class, not the curriculum.

Dr. Cummings always provided clear, in-depth explanations during every lecture in a way that is easily understandable / digestible to her students. I also appreciated how knowledgable and passionate Dr. Cummings is about behavioral psych and science in general--it made the class much more interesting!

This class is lecture heavy, but engaging and interesting. Discussion attendance and assignments were important as well, but they were never difficult. If you take notes in lecture and review them you'll do fine. The GSI's were helpful outside the classroom, too. (I would not recommend taking this as distribution requirement).

This course was extremely well instructed by Dr. Cummings. She is one of the most organized professors I have had at UM. Lectures were well paced and filled class time but allowed for questions. Material was presented clearly and thoroughly. Classes were a mix of lectures and activities/workshops that made material exciting.

Dr. Cummings is a really great professor and lecturer. She really cares about the info she's teaching and her lectures are not boring. Tests are pretty tricky and she is a pretty harsh grader when it comes to the written portions. Make sure you know EVERYTHING and be specific answering!! I would recommend making flashcards of the lectures.

Clear she is very passionate about what she teaches! Tests are a mix of short answers and multiple choice and it's highly recommended to study throughout the semester (although I just studied a week before exams and got 80s-90s). Take notes on the slides (ipad) as a majority of material is on them and lectures go too quickly for hand written.

She was pretty good. Very nice lecturer, but tough grader on exams and presentations. I would say it's pretty difficult to get over a B+, but you learn a fair amount.

I really liked this class! It's definitely not your every day psych class and is much more bio than I'm used to. But Dr. Cummings explains things so well and is super open to helping outside the class. Go see her if you have questions. And leave plenty of time to study.

I took 331 after taking 337 with Dr. C and she's still amazing, if not better. You truly learn what it is to write a scientific paper and learn a lot about research, poster-making, and many other skills that will help you later, especially if you're doing a thesis. She's incredibly understanding, just communicate!

She was an amazing lecturer, but the class is difficult in itself. It's not her fault, but just the curriculum. If you have an ipad, I suggest taking notes on the lecture slides on the ipad as hand written just wouldn't be possible for you to keep up. SIf you study every day for this class you would do well.

The exams are definetely challenging but Dr Cummings really wants everyone to succeed - exams are only 45% and the rest is based on other, easier stuff (projects, homework, participation, etc). You need to study to do well, but it's a very fair class in my opinion. Would def recommend to fulfill psych breadth requirement!!!!

I absolutely LOVE professor Cummings. Besides being a great professor, she is also a great person! She explains everything clearly, has very fun assignments, and truly cares for her students. I would 100% take classes with her again. Definitely one of the best professors I have had at umich.

Hormones & Behavior in the team based learning format with Dr. Cummings was the best class I've taken at U-M. She's so energetic and even though the lectures are pretty full, I liked all the group work we did to break up the material. The workshops are the best! Great way to expand on content. Study everything, and don't wait til the last minute.

This is my second class with Dr. Cummings and she's been one of my favorite professors at Michigan. Sex differences is a good mix of outside work and in class discussion, and I've never had a class where we think about how different things like society affect health and disease. Great class.

Dr. Cummings is fantastic at lecturing and is super intelligent. I think her exams are pretty fair and that all the questions are based off the powerpoint slides. The class was very low workload as well. However, I do wish she recorded lectures. Overall, she is a great professor and very approachable if you need to ask questions or for extra help.

Dr. Cummings is an amazing lecturer, but there is a lot of content covered each lecture so be prepared to move quickly. If your looking for a psychology class, I wouldn't recommend this because I felt it was very bio heavy.

I really liked the flip classroom bc I could learn the content and take notes at my own pace. Talking first in small groups in class allowed me to hear my classmates' thoughts and got me thinking about the content in different ways before coming together as a whole class. The group projects were fun and engaging & a nice break from all tests.

Developing Brain was my second class with Dr. Cummings and she's great. The content is challenging but she's super accessible outside of class.
