She is one of the best prof I've ever had. I enjoyed every single class. She is very clear and helpful. Strongly recommend.
She is an awesome prof! Extremely helpful and respectful. Highly recommend having this prof for any future lecture.
She was an extremely helpful and amazing prof. One of the best profs I have had thus far at uni. She always helped out the regulars and hinted what might be on the midterm and final. Highly recommend having this prof in future lectures.
She is the best prof in the whole of calgary, OMG, she is highly recommendable. she was clear, enthusiatic, and totally interested in her student (which of course other profs dont do). Please take any of your geo class with her and you are guaranteed at least a B. :)
Easy prof. Watch so many videos in class. Fast marker. No text book required. Lacking guidelines on assignments, but marks them easily. M/C exams to which she tells you what you need to know in class. Seems a little scatterbrained and doesn't know a lot of answers to questions asked beyond what she's teaching, but overall enthusiastic teacher.
To me, Dr. Cuthbertson is exactly what a prof should be. Straight-forward, timely, and very reasonable. Her class was an awesome GPA boost for me.
She made the class rock!
Such a nice lady. Makes her lectures simple, and explains the material very well. Always willing to answer questions and clarify anything. Lab exams require studying, and most of your grade is dependent on your understanding of labs, but the lectures compliment it. My fave Geo prof for sure!
Jennifer is an amazing prof. She makes things on an understandable level and really wants you to succeed. Her exams are all off of stuff covered though they can still be tricky.
She was very easy to understand, she tried to simplify topics as much as possible, always ended class 5 minutes early, watched short videos often. She tries her best so that everyone can succeed. The lecture final does cover a lot of material so be prepared. Good prof overall
Awesome prof. Best one I've had yet. She is super clear, easy to approach and ask questions. She has definitely really made me fall in love with geology.
Absolutely outstanding prof. Took the summer course, had 2 essays and 240 multiple choice questions over 3 exams in 6 weeks. Lots of work but SO interesting. Her exams state a clear question and the correct answer is one from either notes, lecture of textbook. Imagine that. Why can't other professors figure out how to write a decent test? A++
Great instructor, genuinely cares about her students. Straight forward well written exams, no trick questions. Interesting and fun lectures. The lecture slides are pretty good, but could use more detail for the more complex material.
Dr C is the nicest lady ever but I don't think she deserves such high ratings on here. I find that most of the time she just reads her ppt's to us. She doesn't do a good job of preparing us for the lab, yet the written portion of her exams are entirely based on the lab. I, without a doubt, am learning more from my TA in this course than from Dr C.
best glgy 301 prof ever exams are easy follows the powerpoint.
Dr. Cuthbertson is a very nice teacher. The two midterm exams are straight forward but the final was difficult to get an A. The course is dry and she pretty much reads off every power point slide. I personally thought the course was quite boring compared to other geology courses I have taken.
Very straightforward lectures and midterms. The final exam was very difficult compared to the midterms, very difficult. You don't need to but the textbook, we never used it.
If you can memorize powerpoints word for word then this is the class for you. Easy A. Content is pretty boring and she's pretty boring. No need to buy the textbook. Easy marker on the assignments too.
This class is incredibly easy, especially if you've taken 201. While Dr Cuthbertson is very nice, she doesn't put a lot of effort into teaching. Her lecture slides are from previous course instructors and she often brings in guest lecturers for when she is away. Hard not to fall asleep in class because the content is so boring, but an easy A.
I have had her for 2 geology courses and she honestly made me love geology. She is straight to the point and tests are easy. She's awesome
One of the best prof's at UofC. Her lectures are kinda boring but she is super friendly and her exams are pretty straightforward
Dr. C is totally awesome! She's nice and if you want to do better on your reports, you should go see her before handing it in for some pointers. Exams are all MC based off the slides so memorize those! A good method to study is to use flash cards. I recommend going to class because she tells you whats on the exams
Overall Dr. C is a great prof. She is passionate about the topic and lectures clearly. The foundation for some of the stuff taught isn't always clear, but she does explain test material more in depth. She is nice and very easy to approach and will help you with any questions you have. As a non major she definitely made me interested in geology!
Go to every class (no matter how boring or if there is a guest lecturer), she gives specifics on what she might ask on the exam, we also had one class where we did a summary from each guest lecturer and most of her final exam questions were taken from that. Basically questions are taken right from the slides so if you attend class its an easy A
She's awesome! Really good lecturer, and makes you want to go to class. She shows a lot of videos and posts her notes online. Exams are super easy and straight forward and best of all, all exams are NOT CUMULATIVE! Yay! She's one of the best profs I've ever had!
Fair tester! She respects us as students and respects your work load as well. Extremely approachable. Her tests are a very accurate representation of the lecture notes she posts on D2L. Print her notes off and follow along with her in class and you'll be sure to get an A.
She's such an awesome prof and really cares about making lectures fun and tries not to make it boring although sometimes it does lag on. I wish I could take more classes with her, she made me LOVE geology. Exams were very straight forward and she drops hints in class so make sure you go!
Dr. C is a very fair tester. Lectures are good but she has an over reliance on confusing guests lectures. Her own lectures were clear, easy to follow along, and very interesting. Plenty of media support with her lectures and she does her best to make it interesting. She is fairly helpful, kind and easy to approach. This was a great science option.
An easy A if you study the right way. Textbook not needed. Very friendly prof who responds to emails and is available for help before/after class and during office hours. Found myself skipping quite a few lectures, but would not recommend doing so after the second midterm. Not rocks for jocks anymore but study for the final and u can get an A
Dr. C is one of the best profs I've ever encountered at UofC, I've taken 2 GLGY courses with her already and would take a third. She makes the material interesting and is willing to go out of her way to help her students and make sure they succeed. I highly reccomend taking course with her.
The class is very easy. Jennifer is a wonderful woman who has a high level of passion both for the course and in witnessing her students succeed. Makes herself available for extra help. Textbook not required. Exams are fair, non-cumulative, and as long as you read the slides you are good to go. Rewards students who come to class with some freebies.
I took this class because she had such a great rating and i am a straight A student who has taken several courses in geology so i thought this class would be a breeze, but i found it very difficult. The slides have little to no information and test questions are based on very small things you would not think to study. Lectures are really boring
Lecture portion was easy. Attending class helps but it's not necessary. The hardest part of the course is the lab portion, and even that isn't too bad.
Her classes are super easy. You don't really need to attend class to pass. Her exams are also all multiple choice and rather easy.
Cuthbertson is a genuinely caring professor, and is enthusiastic about igneous petrology. She is easy to talk to, sets clear grading schemes and sufficient study material for exams. Lectures are very easy but labs require a bit more work in and outside of scheduled time, but many people are available to help with the mineralogy + thin sections.
Dr. C did a great job of teaching this class. Interesting lecture material and easy tests. Great science option for arts majors!
By far the easiest class I've ever taken in my almost 5 years. Dr. C is so kind and caring, her tests are very easy MC and non-cumulative. She will really repeat info to make it stick in your head and she's genuinely concerned about her students. I didn't attend most of her lectures and I still did very well in the course. Highly recommend!
Dr. C was a great prof, and the topics discussed in class were super interesting! Tests were super easy and projects were manageable. Great science option for non-majors!
Super caring and engaging prof, who cares about the success of her students
She makes the final exam unnecessarily hard. I was naive to think that as long as I read through all the lecture slides and go to lecture I'll do fine, I WAS WRONG. The lecture slides are't going to help because they are way too brief and don't give you detailed info. Expecting a big fat "B-" on my otherwise straight-A transcript :(
Jennifer is really nice and a decent prof, but has a really tough time making exam questions. She'll test you on what seem like the most unimportant details of a slide or things that were never discussed in class, so you'll feel like you need to just guess on a few. Overall good lectures, really bad exams.
I am going to start of by saying that she is a really nice person but this is the most boring class I have ever taken. I was struggling to concentrate throughout the semester. The final exam is made unnecessarily hard and you are tested on content that's not on the slides or even discussed during the lectures. Be prepared to do a lot of guessing.
Tough but fair lab exams, class average around a 70, to do good you will have to grind it out in the lab for hours. Lecture exams are easier. Lots of videos, and if you attend class she will tell you what questions may be on the exam. Very friendly and relaxed, one of the best profs i've had so far. Also has a good lecture pace not too fast or slow
Though I bombed this class because science really isn't my jam, Dr. Cuthbertson was definitely not to blame. She didn't require us to buy the textbook, gave the slides out for free (which are thorough and helpful), and was always accessible outside of class. However, she uses lots of (sleep-inducing) videos in her lectures, so pick a late class.
Absolute pleasure having this prof. The content is a breeze but Dr. Cuthbertson made it so much enjoyable with her examples and videos. The tests and term paper were very easy if you put in a genuine effort. Overall, an amazing class and an excellent choice if youre looking for an interesting option to take. 10/10 would take again if I could.
Jennifer is an amazing prof and such a sweetheart. If you pay attention in class and try on the inforgraphic and term paper you will easily get an A. Her tests are so easy and class averages were 85%. This class was also super interesting which is a bonus.
Nicest prof ever! Clearly cares a lot about what she's teaching and puts a lot of effort into her slides. Provides practice questions and it's an easy A if you go to class and study for the exams. One of the best profs I've had
Jennifer was by far the best prof I've experienced at u of c. Her material and lectures were always super interesting and engaging, the projects were a lot of fun to complete and if you watch the lectures you'll have no problem. In terms of the pandemic she was the only prof I had that made life easy, and always responded with care in her emails.
A prof that clearly cares for the wellbeing of her students on top of providing insightful material. Because I didn't have to worry about grades, I enjoyed learning the content. Easy weekly assignment, as well as projects. One of the best prof I've had the pleasure to meet.
Amazing professor! 10/10! She really shows the any prof can make a course amazing online! In class she had multiple choice exams but with online she switched to having 3 projects and weekly questions that you make up yourself. More professors should be like her! She really cares about learning and not making it harder for students during online!
This prof is awesome. All the material has real world relevance and is incredibly interesting! Other profs should take note as to how she teaches online, this is the way it should be done! Lectures were straightforward and thorough, it is clear that Dr. Cuthbertson wants her students to succeed and develop a passion for the material.
Dr. Cuthbertson is awesome, adapted to online courses quickly and delivers content in an interesting way that is relevant to the field. Encourages group cohesion, is very fair at grading and has clear expectations laid out. Unlike other geology profs, she actively engages the students and makes the content incredibly interesting.
Her adaptation to the online format is superb. She makes the course really interesting. I enjoyed the format of the course as it is based on 3 research projects (easily graded) and participation. Overall a very easy science elective but also really interesting.
Just the absolute best option you could take with the best prof. I went in not caring at all about geology and hearing it was just an easy class, and it is SUPER easy but she also makes geology really interesting and engaging. 10/10, can't recommend enough.
The only reason I did not get an A in this class was that I missed 2 MC assignments. The class had 0 tests and your grade was based on submitting MC questions for each lecture (20%) and the 3 easy projects. This was one of the easiest classes I have ever taken. The lectures were boring but who cares when you don't have to watch them to pass
I've had Dr. Cuthbertson for GLGY 311 and 308, both online courses due to COVID-19. Dr. Cuthbertson: - Makes highly interesting lectures - Is obviously passionate about the material - Knows her stuff For both of my classes, there were no exams--just weekly assignments and 3 individual projects (you got to choose a relevant topic of interest).
Exceptional professor. Dr. Cuthbertson truly cares about her students and is extremely passionate about what she teachers. A true blessing of a professor and I would strongly recommend taking a class with her regardless of your major. She is truly exceptional, a one of a kind professor.
Took this class as an elective and she was amazing. No test just projects which actually made me want to be engaged with the class. She is very accessible outside of class and always responds fast and helps alot.
Super easy class, especially if it's online. Had a lot of fun doing the infographic projects as well - it was refreshing compared to the usual tests and papers in other uni classes. Highly recommend if you're looking for a less heavy course + an easily obtainable high grade. Even for non-science majors, you can feel rest assured.
best prof / online class EVER. easy A+ for super minimal work, for example, 30 mins a week most weeks with lecture questions only, and 3 projects throughout the sem that you should a put a few hours into. interesting material, sweet prof, and a guaranteed A!
Amazing prof! I loved her classes and her assignments are so easy. Literally doing the bare minimum will get you an A. Would definitely take again!
Extremely kind and caring professor. The lectures were excellent, engaging, and fun.
She is a really nice proff! However, her marking for the assignments feels sort of ridiculous at times. I put so much effort in and did not get the grade I hoped to. Her grading for infographics is very unclear and I am unsure what she considers "creative" or "well-researched."
DR. CUTHBERTSON IS AN ANGEL! Just take this class if you need extra credit. She genuinely cares for her students. The lectures are really straightforward and interesting. 2 individual projects worth 25% each but as long as she sees you put in the effort, you can easily get 100.
Her lectures are always interesting and well structured. She can be a little bit unclear on grading for infographics especially for the creativity criteria but other than that her projects are actually fun to do! She knows what students will find interesting and focuses on those topics. Highly recommend as an option course!
Dr Cuthbertson is SO kind and is a great prof. She made the lectures and content very informational and interesting and her tests have clear criteria for what is going to be on the exams. Shes great
By far one of the best profs I've had so far. Midterm and final questions were all MC and from the lecture slides, just be sure you can answer the outcomes and you'll do great. Projects were also straightforward and marked fairly, TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU CAN!
Excellent prof & course even if you aren't a GLGY major - Dr. Cuthbertson makes the topics relevant and engaging for real-life issues. The scope of the course is broad so lectures rely largely on informative videos, which are discussed in the slides. Textbook helps. 2 tests, 2 projects. The projects were a lot of fun! This was my safe space class.
An amazing prof for sure. Graded on 2 projects, 1 midterm, and a final. Projects were easy, a detailed infographic would get you a great mark. Midterm/final questions could all be found in the lecture slides, so long as you read them over. Lectures were amazing and very interesting as she used real life examples/videos to reflect the course content
Absolute gem who wants everyone to succeed. Make sure to memorize a lot and every small detail you can. Tests focus on those but are easy.
Such a great prof! Very laid back, very easy to talk to. Lectures are easy! I showed up for just over half. She's a fair grader on the projects, but you have to put some effort into them. Class itself is super interesting, the topics are relatable. She loves when people show up and participate, makes her so happy! Highly recommend this class.
GPA booster!! Super nice prof. Would recommend this class to anyone who needs to boost their gpa, or to anyone who enjoys geology.
Dr. Cuthbertson is an amazing prof. Her lectures were interesting, and her exams were very fair (just memorization). The projects were fun, creative, and marked easily. You can for sure do well with some effort. There was a situation in class that showed me how much she actually cares AND advocates for the students and enjoys us being in lecture.
Best prof I have had. Gets to know her students beyond just academics. Engages students and doesn't jump to conclusions when they struggle. Teaching style is succinct and exams/labs are fair.
Dr. Cuthbertson is amazing! Such a caring and nice prof, she answers emails right away. I never write prof reviews but I hope she sees this and knows she is an amazing professor! Truly enjoyed this class, you can tell she's passionate about the material.
The best professor I have had in my three years of university. Her exams were the most fair ones I have ever taken. If you studied her PowerPoints (she puts everything you need to know), you could easily ace the tests, without any tricks. Her projects were also fairly graded and she provided good feedback before submission dates!
Easiest class I have taken here. Just two projects and two tests with the tests being 100% based on the completed lecture notes she posts to D2L. Aside from how easy the course was she was a really fun professor. Makes the lectures super interesting and compelling. she's also very understanding and is willing to listen to her students.
Sweetest professor ever. She genuinely cares and tries to make her lectures interesting (we watched a lot of videos in class). Projects are graded fairly and her exams are easy as well since the questions are made entirely from the slides.
Midterm and final were multiple choice and questions were taken exactly from lecture slides. Two super simple projects. If you show up and review slides a few days before exams it's a guaranteed A. Could not recommend more.
She was such a great lecturer. During class, there were multiple videos watched but they were interesting and short enough that it didn't lose your attention. The contents of the class were valuable. Projects are super easy if you put effort and a bit of research in and the midterms were super fair. I would definitely take a class with her again!
Jen is honestly the best. She is so sweet and caring and will help you succeed if you also care. Her grading is very nice and exams are easy. Lectures are heavy but she gives study guides for the exams and the questions are literally taken from the guide. I wish I could have her again. I loved having her as a prof
Her classes were chill and allowed me to have some rest during a busy schedule. The course itself is very easy! She makes the tests very fairly and the project is simple and easy.
Great professor, highly recommend!
Ended up getting nearly 100 in the course! Dr. Cuthbertson is a great prof and deeply cares for her students.
Amazing. This is the first time I've felt compelled to review any prof. She's extremely caring, genuine, and unlike a lot of profs, does not go out of her way to achieve a specific grade distribution. Rather, she tries to make sure that all of her students succeed. The semester is still far from done. So far though, she's been excellent.
my favourite prof!!! So caring and you can tell she really wants her students to succeed. This class is a gpa booster too! There are only exams in this class and she made them open book including the final as well. You can tell she loves her job and the material she teaches in class. She also gives the readings we need so we don't have to buy them
GPA booster for a course that constitutes the field of Biological Sciences. Course is essentially all memorization which Bio majors are already used too, but that can make it time consuming. Prof is clear with her expectations, and everything is from the lectures.
One of the most genuine and caring profs, she really wants the best for all her students. You can tell she enjoys teaching and her field. Lab exams can be a little tough (coming from a non geo major) but she provides ample room for a good grade through the quizzes and assignments. Would highly recommend!
ERTH 308 is definitely a GPA booster. There is a midterm and final exam which are straight forward and directly from her lecture notes. One assignment which you have the whole semester to work on. Her lectures are entertaining and she is an enthusiatic professor. I would recommend this class with her.
