Doherty is a really fun teacher with a somewhat laid-back lecturing style that makes a 300 lecture class feel smaller. She actually know the names of many students and truly cares about students' success. She gives fairly hard exams and grades kind of tough. She teaches best in office hour with small groups, so I recommend attending!

Writes tests that are way too easy so the mean is super high so every small mistake kills your grade. Lectures are dry- they've made me fall asleep in class at least once every week, even though I've never before passed out in bio before. Also a solid third of her lectures were pointless random plant info that nobody wants, but she is a nice person

I found her to be rather degrading when it came to her teaching style. She assumes her students cannot think critically and have no ability to connect concepts unless they use her "brain mapping structure". I have never had an instructor who appears to think so lowly of her students' abilities to think and learn. That being said, very easy class.

I had an awesome experience with Dr. Doherty teaching this class, by far the best of the whole biology series! Tests were so much clearer than in 180 and 200, so if youre planning on going through/are taking the bio series right now, theres a light at the end of the tunnel! Definitely make a group to study with, and use the General models!

Your grade is almost entirely decided by exams. BIOL220 and Doherty are very generic to gen-STEM classes. Prepare to attend lectures, take notes, and study all the time to succeed. This is probably the worst class I have taken so far, no exaggeration. The class was self taught with lots of busywork instead of allowing students to just take notes and learn their own way. The lectures do nothing to clarify questions, tests will probably blindside you, and instructors rely too much on Piazza instead of actually teaching you.

I was so excited for physio and now I despise the subject. Doherty's lectures are all over the place and she expects you to know material before she even teaches it to you? Every problem seems like a trick question and she never shows work for equations or math concepts. I was left frustrated after every lecture no matter how much I studied.

Finished BIOL220 with Doherty a couple months ago. Out of the entire series, this course was by far my favorite, content wise. If you are looking to get a good grade in this course, you have to be ready to put in the work. I completed everything at least two day prior, and completed every single practice question. It paid off.

In the class right now. My problem is that she makes simple biological concepts into obscure phenomenon. What is simple must be complex for her and put into terms of flux to explain. She expects diagrams but doesnt give enough practice for them. Obscure connectivity arrows as well. Doesnt give enough practice problems either.
