Mrs. Dunkel is a great teacher. This is my second semester with her and I plan to take her again, next semester. I would take her for every class! Projects are easy if you acturally do them and pay attention. You don't have hw, just writing a para. a night when you are doing projects. Don't even question it, JUST take her!!!!:)
she was ok! take lots of notes and you will be fine! All of her text and quizes are open book and note.
grades extremely hard, if your looking to just pass pick a different teacher, class is overkill, you will fail if you are not an expert paper writer, you will work your tail off to maintain a C grade
Ms. Dunkel is intense, she will not baby you or let you slide by. But I guarantee that she will teach you to write! She is extremely helpful, will go over every paragraph of a paper if you need it. You will write better when you leave her class! Trust me, after a bad ENG class experience last year, Ms. Dunkel redeemed ENG class for me!
This class was not ENG 101, it was group work 101. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU DON'T LIKE GROUP WORK! I took (and aced) Eng. HONORS classes all through high school and failed her class because I couldn't take the group work stuff anymore. She's nice, smart, and clear on what she expects, but not a very stimulating class at all.
She likes to work in groups and she requires your full attention while in her class.
Uhmm....where to start....She is extremely hard! She doesn't really want you to ever ask her for help. She wants you to go to other students for help. I wish she was more caring and understanding.
She is a great teacher (and not too bad to look at either), both fair and understanding and willing to help.
Just like the other comments say she really doesn't want you to ever come to her for help. She's extremely slow with grading/posting grades, too. If you like up-to-date grades then don't take her, because chances are you'll go most of the semester without knowing what you've made on any of the assignments you turn in.
I thoroughly enjoyed this class. If you plan to slide by, good luck! She is worth taking. She helps, but some of the above comments are true. She will not baby. But we are in college!!
Gives great feedback, grades tough, yet fair. I enjoyed her class very much. Very attractive and knowledgable.
Lots of group work, lots of assisgnments. Did not like helping students durig office hours. But she did show intrest in her students,
A bad first impression will not get you very far with me. That's why I dropped her immediately.
This is a very organized & helpful instructor. If you struggle or do not understand something you can easily email her or visit her office. If she is busy she will make time for you. I enjoy her teaching style so much I plan to take other courses offered by her. She is not an easy instructor, but she is very good. :)
She is a nice person but when you ask for her to look at your paper she wants you to change it then when you change it. ITS STILL WRONG!!!!! I felt as if Im not a good enough writer for her. If you are an A+ paper writer she is the teacher for you but otherwise NO.
She is a nice PERSON, but if you are not good at writing papers DO NOT TAKE HER because she is a HARD HARD grader. When you go to her for help she tells you to change it and you fix it to her way it IS STILL WRONG.... but if you LOVE writing papers and are an A+ at them then she will be perfect. I just feel that she thinks we should be EXPERTS.
I LOVED Jennifer. I had her for my honors seminar class and she is extremely intelligent, loves her job, and loves her students. I wish I could take her every semester.
She expects A LOT from her students. NOT an "easy A" by any means, but I totally became a better student in her class. I was often confused and frustrated because she took me out of my comfort zone, but as a result I grew a lot academically. I would recommend her to any student truly interested in growing as a scholar but be ready to be challenged.
I had her for Honors Seminar (which is no longer offered at OTC) but I still feel like it is relevant to say that she is an amazing teacher. She expects your best and is willing to help you in any way you may need it for any assignment. I grew a lot from her class and am the better writer for taking it. I strongly suggest taking her.
I really enjoyed this teacher. I learned a lot about composition. I really grew academically in her classes. She is kind and very helpful. I really like how she makes detailed comments on the papers she returns after grading.
This is an excellent course to knock the rust off before you take a full fledged English 040,050,101 or any other writing course.
Jennifer is an amazing teacher and I would recommend anyone to take her class. She expects and wants her students to do their best. Lots of fun in class. Lots of yummy food. GREEEEAAAAAAT!
Jennifer is a comical teacher. She is straight and to the point, but will help you in any way possible. If you communicate with her she will be more than willing to help you with whatever you need. She does however like group projects, but she wont chose your partners. So be ready to interact with your classmates. She uses textbooks that are free
Awesome teacher, VERY VERY helpful. Not gonna just hand you your grade. You have to work for it, but she helps you get there.
The instructor is great and truly cares. Though the class is English and if your not great at English papers it will take you longer to get through them, but she will be there for you.
There are group project but I do feel they help in the long run. Ms. Dunkel does a great job at help everyone in the class become well acquainted and to form connection in a way that help with the group projects. The class is overall fun, educational, with group connections and friendships, and the teacher is always friendly and helpful.
Mrs. Dunkel is one of the fewest teachers i have known to go to the "end of the earth" with her students. She always makes time for the students that struggle, but will not just hand them A's or B's. Awesome teacher!
This was my first ever college course, and I was very intimidated at first. It was challenging, and I learned so much. She helped me to pull my critical thinking skills out and use them again.
Jennifer Dunkel is by far the best teacher I have had since high school. Definitely telling others to take her.
Super awesome class time. Hard homework, but nothing too crazy. Challenging course, yet very engaging in the class. Would take her again. 100%
Mrs. Dunkel is an amazing teacher! I took her for an accelerated course and I was only successful because of her leadership and feedback. She responds to e-mails almost immediately and makes her students feel 100% comfortable to ask her questions. You will not be given a grade. You will have to work for your grade. Very gifted teacher.
I took this class last Spring and I loved it! Ms. Dunkle is fun, helpful and a great teacher. She took the time to meet me and give feedback to ensure I would pass with the A I wanted in the class. She also made the class feel like family with pizza and snack during class and it was always fun. She teaches with professionalism and fun!
Great Teacher!!
Mrs. Dunkel was my favorite English teacher I have ever had in college. I wish I could have taken her course again but I wasn't going to flunk myself. She is nerdy and her classes are really fun. I really learned a lot with her teaching style. You won't need a text book because you use online resources. TAKE THIS CLASS WITH HER! You will learn!!
Mrs Dunkel, is focused less on the banking concept of learning and more on working together and making a difference in your education. She is inspirational, tough but fair, and is truly an instructor who cares about her students. Even after leaving her classroom she is still there as resource for knowledge. Thank you Mrs. Dunkel, YOU ROCK!!!!!!!!!
Jennifer is an awesome and fun teacher who genuinely cares about and works toward the success of her students. She takes time to work with students both in and outside of class and is very considerate and helpful in doing so. I would definitely recommend taking her class. :)
If you work best on your own and don't like group projects, Jennifer is not the professor for you. Even though she is a fairly tough grader on writing assignments, she spends the extra time to help you get where you need to be. I absolutely loved her class and she made it so much fun, especially with pizza parties!
Lectures made no sense. In group work my entire group was lost. Instructor was fairly rude.
Extremely tough grader, this class requires a lot of time, would not recommend if you have a busy schedule
Jennifer Dunkel was by far my favorite professor of all of them so far. There are about 5 papers, and 3 of them are with a group. I was much more successful in the group setting then I was alone. If you have time to get with a group, you will do well in this class. All Jennifer wanted was us to succeed!
For a 101 class she thinks its like a 500 or something. Super nice person and is willing to help but still isnt enough with how she grades and her "lectures" are literally so random and don't actually help with anything. Also 3/4 of the class is incompetent and she will have to do a lot of group work so pick your seats wisely.
Conflicted because shes a nice person and genuinely cares, but her class is crap. Lectures are random and dont make sense, the papers/assignments are to high school busy work. Then the essays you write make no sense and are graded at a unrealistic level for a intro class. You can work your but off for this class to to maintain a C average.
Jennifer Dunkel is superb. She is passionate and kind and applies it to her teaching style. I have learned more about writing, and the reading process in 100/100a with her, than in any past English course. I recommend all OTC students take at least one class with Jennifer Dunkel. She will make you work for it, but I bet you will be grateful.
Jennifer was an excellent instructor. She makes learning fun. You will understand collaboration, group work, annotations and how to write a problem/solution paper and so much more by the end of the semester. Yes, you need to attend class and participate and do the homework. You will be lost even if you miss one or two classes.
Classroom lectures consist heavily of talking about total nonsense and rarely anything English related. Reading and analyzing horrible essays. Spends way too much time on the things that make people hate taking English. This class was always boring or awkward.
As long as you turn in your assignments, be there on time, and pay attention you should be fine.
Mrs. Dunkel is an excellent teacher! She cares about every student she has and is more than willing to help whoever needs it and with whatever they need, not just English.
Jen is an amazing teacher. But if you are looking for an easy A don't take this class. She has you work because she wants to improve. If you are struggling she is always willing to help! She has been my favorite teacher because she cares so much about her students. O and be prepared for food in class! She will not let you go hungry! BEST TEACHER!
Jennifer Dunkell is one of the most respectable teachers I've ever had. She makes class fun and interesting, while still teaching the content. She gives good feedback on all of your papers and enough time to do assignments. She genuinely cares about her students well being. I would recommend to anyone to take her class
Mrs. Dunkel was such a ray of sunshine! She was always so sweet and welcoming to the students and she would even bring snacks to share. She gives amazing feedback and is very thorough with each student, Im very pleased with my English experience!!
She brought in free food every now and then. Had an amazingly outstanding personality, and you can tell that she has a lot of passion for what she does. She actually cares about making a difference in our college and as a result you end up caring more for her class; albeit, I wasn't by any means an outstanding student, it was an awesome class.
Jennifer is probably one of the best teachers Ive ever had. She makes you work for your grade but if youre a hard worker, you will love her. English isnt one of my favorite subjects, but she definitely made class enjoyable and worth coming to.
Jennifer is passionate and caring. I couldn't say enough good things about her. She wants to see her students thrive. She loves education and really knows her stuff. As for group projects, yes there will be a few. But use this to your advantage! She'll let you do just about any assignment as a group. Find someone with the same work ethic as you!
I had her for both comp 101 and 102. Assignments can be tough but if you ask for help she'll do everything she can to help you. Shes one of the nicest, coolest teachers ever. I took her block classes so everything went pretty fast but she did her best to make it easier on everyone.
Homework assigned almost every class period and due the next. Shes very easy to get along with and is clear with what is expected. Uses lots of different learning styles. Good communication (in person/class and through email) and can conversate with students.
Jennifer is fantastic. I have attempted English many times, but she made it so easy for me. The lectures are long and content heavy, but she still makes life manageable.
Jennifer is a great teacher and nearly every day this semester my class has had some type of snack in our classroom haha. But truthfully she's a nice lady and she seems so willing to help any of her students if they're struggling. Also, be ready for group work and a presentation! That takes up most of the semester (her unit 2-4).
I just adore Jennifer! She was always there after hours to answer any questions I had. She also gives extra credit, which a lot of instructors dont do. We had a 3 hour class so she always made sure to bring snacks for everyone or setup a food date and ordered food. Jennifer was always very respectful. Im glad I was in her class!
So many papers
As someone who had a passing grade in her class up until she graded my Problem-Solution Proposal paper (which is 100 points and the final is way less points btw). I wouldnt take her class again, she requires students to do presentations and group projects. And I just dont see how any of that fits into an ENG101 class.
Jennifer is an amazing instructor. I took her once a week Monday night class and really enjoyed it. As long as you put your effort in she will be willing to work with you. She is such a kind person and I think you will learn a lot and enjoy her as an instructor.
Mrs. Dunkel has been the best professor i have had since coming back to college. She is very understanding of personal issues and helps work around them, like i had drill for the national guard and had to miss a few days and helped by getting me notes. She gives almost 5% in extra credit and is amazing.
Class was not focused on English for most of the semester nothing was truly learned during the course and it was difficult to pass
Jennifer cares about what she teaches and if you are looking for an understanding teacher who you still learn from, it's her. She does challenge her students and its not an easy A, but she teaches in an interactive, encouraging, and not terrible way.
Dunkel is a good professor who gives very good feedback when reading your assignments. She is a tough grader. She gives you outlines for questions, when you follow them she still says it is wrong. Very contradicting. Shes a fun teacher and you can tell she cares about her students. Great professor just not for me due to not knowing how she grades
Tough grader, lots of group work, very reliant on reading
Jennifer is a really great teacher and creates a class environment that is really easy-going and fun.
She is an excellent teacher and is passionate about what she does, which is something that i respect in teachers.
Not your typical English 101 class. Would recommend if you are going into education because this class is based around the effects of higher education.
She's a great teacher and super easy to get along with, but this course is not at all what I was expecting for an ENG101 class. We didn't really learn a lot about Composition or write many papers. This class is group work based, both inside and outside of class. There is also LOTS of reading outside of class.
Jennifer gives good feedback! She seems very intense at first, but she is super sweet and will work with you if you talk to her! Make sure to do the reading assignments BEFORE class or you will be lost.
She is very passionate about what she teaches and it shows everyday. She loves to do group work which is one thing I hated the most in high school, but her class made me feel more comfortable talking in class and working in groups. She is an amazing teacher and her personality would make my day so much better.
Very nice professor that makes class more fun but still have challenges.
I love Ms. Dunkel. She is very relaxes and a great person. She really cares about you and any issue you have she will help, with the class or personal. Her class may seem difficult. There is a lot of participation, discussions, projects, but she will absolutely help if you are struggling! She is amazing, and I'm sad her class is over!
One of the best teachers at OTC. She changed the way I look at education now! She is someone that really cares about her students and wants them all to do well. Take this teacher and I promise you will actually learn something valuable.
Jennifer's class was unlike any English class I have ever taken. It's challenging, but you really learn from the material and feel like you earned your grade by the end of the semester. There is a lot of reading and the assignments are time consuming, but I wouldn't say that I had any "busy work". Professor provides AMAZING feedback. Great class.
The best English teacher Ive ever had you got to love Jennifer. Shes amazing wonderful teacher, good at responding, great feedback. Just the best all around I would definitely recommend her class, if I could take her class again I guarantee you I would.
I had a GREAT experience with Jennifer! I really enjoyed being one of her students. She gives amazing feedback, and DON'T be afraid to ask questions! She enjoys when students do, and she will help you to the best of her ability! 10/10 I would definitely take her class again, if given the opportunity!
She's a really great teacher she's very patient and she pushes you to be your greatest self.
Jennifer is an incredible teacher and is very straightforward with what she expects from you. She cares about your mental health and is there to help you. There is a ton of reading in this class, but many opportunities for extra credit. She provides rubrics for every assignment and as long as you follow them, you will be successful in this class.
Jennifer is by far the best instructor I've ever had. Her class is challenging, but she sets you up for success IF you're willing to put in your part. Her lectures are amazing and attentive, WONDERFUL resources and feedback, and she's very open-minded. I've learned so much. She's a must-have. Her class requires WORK, but it's 100% worth it.
Jennifer was a great teacher! I had her for English 101 and passed with an A. She does alot of group activities in class but it doesnt last long. She does have lots of assignments due but gives a late cushion for 90% of them. She gives out so many opportunities for extra credit as well. Her projects are all about research, so the more the merrier.
This professor is very good at working with students and explaining ideas. This class does require that you pay attention in class, and when you do it pays off because it is applied in your writing.
Jennifer is a great professor and I really feel like I've gained a lot of knowledge in her course. The main thing I would have to say is most of the assignments and projects are very time consuming, therefore if you are someone who doesn't have a lot of time to dedicate towards one class, I would not recommend Jennifer.
She was really great with how she tought things and handled diffrent students Circumstances and understood that we as students have struggle on the day to day just like any other person if not more.
Jennifer was an amazing professor who really cared about the quality of her class. She's super attentive to how students are doing in her course and often asks them if there are any policies she can change to further improve her students' experiences in her class. Also, she's just really nice to talk to and makes you feel valued in class.
I would highly recommend Jennifer! She is extremely knowledgeable and passionate. There is a good deal of reading in the class as well as discussion. Keep up with homework assignments and it is manageable! I have learned a great deal from Jennifer!
Jennifer is extremely kind, knowledgeable, and ready to help you!
Jennifer was one of the nicest professors. She easily works with you if something may come up unexpectedly and will always help you with your grade, as long as you are following her criteria on the assignment.
Very helpful and nice. She will answer any question you have and will also provide several links for some assignments.
Jennifer is an amazing instructor! She is very flexible when working with students and I believe she truly wants all of her students to be successful in her classes. The course is very heavy on group work so if you hate group work with everything in you I wouldn't recommend it, but it does prove to be very helpful and a good learning opportunity!
Very professional and easy to understand. Although her coursework is difficult, she provides every resource needed to end with the result you want.
She is an intense professor. You can learn a lot if you apply yourself, however you will always be critiqued, even if your material is done well. This is a group-heavy course, so if you don't like that, find another professor. This is not an easy intro course, so keep that in mind when taking this class. You will be academically challenged.
Jennifer is a very intelligent and nice professor. If you really demonstrate your effort and build a relationship with her, it will benefit you extremely. VERY heavy on group work. She expects the best out of her students and her grading/work can be intimidating at times but effort and participation is key to success in this class.
Mrs. Dunkel was outgoing and always willing to help. The intelligence she has and her way of teaching was well worth the experience. I really enjoyed this class and learned a lot from her as an educator. I feel grateful to have had the opportunity to be in her class this semester. I learned a lot and had a lot of fun doing it.
Mrs. Dunkel is wonderful! Because of her I was able to not simply write papers, but connect with my classmates and the community of Springfield. You do have to be open to group work in this course which took me a little outside of my comfort zone, but you learn through that as well. All in all I have enjoyed both Mrs Dunkel and the class experience
This entire class is centered around one group project and class participation. Make sure you choose a good group because you're with them for 12 weeks at least. Otherwise this class is awesome and was a great change in pace from what I'm used to. Highly recommend this teacher for any class she teaches.
Professor Dunkel's ENG101 class is challenging but rewarding. She expects a lot from her students, but provides great resources and support. I found Unstuck study and the class discussions really helpful for staying on top of the workload. Overall, a tough yet valuable course.
If you want to learn professional soft skills, expand your critical thinking, to actually be engaged with learning, and if you want to do more than sit in a boring lecture and write essays- then this is the class for you! This class is so fun, engaging, and challenging. My advice? Pay attention (especially to canvas) and hold yourself accountable.
