If circuits isn't your thing, this professor can teach it so that you will understand it. Beware, she walks around during tests and completely breaks your concentration.

Great teacher. Loves talking about sports. Makes circuits very understandable.
Excellent professor. Makes learning circuits very easy. Great at explaining in class. Extremely helpful out of class. There is a fair amount of work but overall not too bad.
One of the best at UAH. Had her for two classes, and have had absolutely no problems whatsoever. I would recommend this teacher to anyone... the only negative comment I can think of, is the whole 'walking around during test' thing, which she does do. (I a
very clear...very honest and straightforward...teaches what you need to know without the BS
Microfabrication class with lab. Very interesting class. I enjoy her as a teacher. One final report, no test. The report is tough though. I recomend.
she's the bomb. that's all the needs to be said. ps you have to do a paper and a presentation
Dr. English is an excellent teacher. She rarely strays too far into theory, gives tons of examples, speaks very clearly, and is very engaging in her lectures. Tests and homework are tough, but she is very helpful and available outside of class. She doesn't overwork her students and also gives plenty of extra credit.

Her method seems easy, but she is hard to get intouch with if you need help.
Dr. English is a great teacher. I highly recommend her for any class! She is easy to contact out of class with questions. Her tests are tough but you can do well if you study. She also offers extra credit. My favorite teacher at UAH so far.
Best teacher I've had on any level, gives tons of examples, and seems interested in actually teaching her students, a rarity at colleges these days.
Dr. English is the best professor I have had. She cares about her students, is extremely helpful, and exemplifies an outstanding attitude towards teaching her students and education in general. I consider it impressive that I have that opinion of Dr. English, seeing as I consider school a complete waste of my time and money...
One cannot get by only on partial credit in her class. One must learn the problems start to finish and very quickly. At times her grading is harsh, but her class is set up based on repetition from homework and examples in class.
Does a great job, just a little fast sometimes. Do not take this class during a summer symester.
great teacher
The best teacher in the ECE department by far! She cares about her students and will go out of her way to help you. She gives great lecture notes and a ton of examples. Her quizzes are based on the homework and her examples and her tests are based on her quizzes. It's very logical
Definitely one of the favorites in the ECE dept. Her lectures are precise and clear. She is interested in her students learning the material. Great professor.
Dr. English is a great teacher, the best I've had at UAH so far. Her tests and exams are reflective of homework and material covered in class. She does a really good job of explaining the material so it's easy to learn.
Absolutely awesome. Extremely helpful, funny, and is a wonderful Professor. Base your schedule around getting her!!
She is an awesome teacher! I was dreading circuits b/c students said that it was terrible, but with Dr. English its been awesome. Not stressful, but she does keep you challenged. Very helpful with questions, good partial credit, easy to understand and entertaining! Definitely pick Dr. English. :-D
Excellent teacher; makes circuits easy. Quizzes are quickly returned, and tests look a great deal like quizzes and examples. Get her if you can.
Dr. English is a real world person who actually cares about her students. Her tests and quizzes come from her in-class examples, which should not be a problem if you do some of the optional homework. She also offers lots of extra credit. I highly recommend her.
Amazing teacher! She teaches good, never throws any curve balls, and has an enjoyable personality. In my Circuits class, she gave two tests and a comprehensive final. Gives some of the answers on the board to check against yours, allows an index card of notes, and gives good partial credit. She also gives Extra Credit, but if you want it, you r
Dr. English is teaching incarnate.
Dr. English does a great job of teaching because she works lots of examples and homework and tests come directly from them. She also lets you know what exactly to study for tests. She gives great partial credit and extra credit to help your grades as well. The only downside about her is that she is slow to post things on the website sometimes.
She jokes around a lot, making the class very fun. She works plenty of examples and is available outside class. Great teacher. Take her if at all possible.
Dr. English is a great teacher. You have to learn the material, but she doesn't kill you. Highly suggested!
She is awesome! Her test are long but she teaches everything very well and if you do bad it is because you didn't study. I think she is HOT too.
AWESOME! shes great, her tests are pretty tough and lengthy on the calculations, but she prepares you well if you study and work her problems. she made me so more confident with my circuit techniques and the theory. interesting lectures and makes the class fun, cant wait to take her again
Funny insructor, she make you enjoy her class. Lots of partial credit, examples and story telling. Her exams are pretty easy at least for me. I really like her. hhmmnn her grading is a little tough though. Overall, she is just too cool.
Grading in her class can be brutal, so do well on EVERYTHING. Midterm 40%, Final 40%, 5 Quizzes 20%. (Watch out for the final.) Puts answers to tests on the board. I thought she went pretty fast and assumed a lot of knowledge for the circuits novice. As a person, she's funny and impossible to NOT get along with. Can be a fun class if you do well.
Gave 6 quizzes and dropped the lowest one. The midterm was pretty easy, but the final was HARD! The final had problems that were nothing like review problems. If you review your notes before every quiz and midterms, you'll do fine in the class. She allows you to bring a notesheet to the tests. I would take her (esp. if you're taking circuits 2).
Very nice teacher that does a lot to help students who are struggling. I was not used to some of her circuit conventions and sometimes I thought her lectures weren't perfect but overall she was a very good, caring, and enthusiastic prof. Made an A despite deserving a C+. She gave an additional take home test because midterm grades were somewhat low
Great teacher. Very low textbook use. Most of the class is notes and circuit examples. Makes students feel very comfortable and able to ask questions. Test and quizzes are challenging but she always tells you what will be on them. Great teacher/great person.
Great teacher! Explained the material in a manner that could be understood easily! Very helpful with questions!!
Dr. English was a really good teacher and explained the material in a very clear and easy to understand manner. My only complaint was that she would wait until the last minute to post homework/test review solutions, so you couldn't check your work until right before the test or final. Other than that, I enjoyed her class. Pepper your angus
Great educator. Helpful, clear. If you want to pass this class and are willing to put in the effort that any Electrical Engineering student should, you will pass this class and come out knowing more then you would with any other instructor.
Dr. English is a great teacher. You really learn the material with limited out-of-class study. She's also very funny and engaging which really helps. Also, she doesn't use the listed circuits text so you don't have to buy a book. I used my dad's old book from college and, honestly, her lectures were so thorough I never even opened it.
Dr. English is awesome! Very good teacher, and also entertaining :) I took this class the previous semester and failed. I am currently making an A (the semester's almost over). She genuinely cares about her job as an educator. This woman can teach!
Dr. English was a very helpful teacher that really gave me a solid foundation for my major (EE). If I could take all of my classes with her I would! She made things very clear and easy to understand without making it too easy. I highly recommend her. One of my best professors thus far.
Pretty cool prof. Got dat a++
Very informative class, easy-going, but expects you to learn the material. Need help? She's there. Tests are not easy, but they are exactly what she covers in class.
Spring 2015: Though I withdrew from the class, Dr. English is an amazing teacher--very down to earth. For the time that I took her class, tests and quizzes were the whole grade and was part of the reason I had to withdraw. She does want you to ask her questions, do the given work, and show up to class.
Dr English is a rare breed. Extremely intelligent and can speak clearly on topic. Keeps up with pop culture too which is nice. Her tests are tough but if she knows you're working you can pass. She lets you know where you stand grade-wise and helps you decide if you should drop or not. Keeps office hours and cares for her students. Very funny too!
hi she is pretty cool teacher love to have her again i also liked helping her out in the front desk, she is funny, and has a cool daughter
If you can, take Dr. English for EE 213! She keeps the class interesting with her wit and humor but she's a good professor and her lectures prove it. Don't need the book. If you take good notes, do all of the problem sets, come to her when you are having trouble with material, and study often, your grade will show it!
Everyone probably already knows this, but Dr. English is one of the best at UAH. Her lectures were very informative and she welcomed any questions if you got confused. Her tests are pretty long, but if you attend class and study the old exams she gives, you'll do fine. Attendance is mandatory: 3 absences and you get the GPA shrink ray, my friend.
Dr. English is probably the best professor in the engineering department. She genuinely cares for each student, and it shows. Make use of her office hours, and actually do the problem sets without the solutions and you will do well. She makes content clear to understand and doesn't get bogged down in theory. She does take attendance so show up.
Dr. English is THE BEST at UAH. She cuts out the unnecessary junk. Gets down to the meat. You'll walk out with knowledge. Homework is not taken up, but if you don't do those problem sets you'll be lost in the exams/quizzes. LOST, I SAY. LOST. Do the problem sets. Don't skip class. Pay attention in class. BOOM you just got yourself an A. Congrats.
I found ENG101 to be really straightforward, coming from someone with basically no prior programming experience. Though the class covered very basic concepts, Dr. English made everything easy to follow. The MATLAB and Python tests had both multiple choice/short answer and programming parts that were simple as long as you pay attention in class.
Really she can't teach whatsoever. If you want to learn anything read her PowerPoint and use the Internet. You have to go to her class everyday or you will get docked after 3 misses. Overall it's a really simple class with no real learning involved on a more than high school level.
Dr. English really wants her students to learn. The class has at most 2 hrs of homework per week (I would recommend practicing extra on your own). The midterm was a lot more difficult than I expected, but she gave an opportunity for extra credit on the final. Highly recommend doing Kahn Academy Java prior to this course if no coding experience.
Awesome professor, she is easy to talk with. Clear lecture.
Don't expect to get grades back from her. I turned in an assignment and she gave me a 0 and I've been emailing her for 2 months about it. It also takes her weeks to grade any assignments.
Dr. English is an absolutely amazing teacher, shes very clear about she wants and shes willing to answer any questions you might have. She also tries to make the class as enjoyable as possible. The homework is straightfoward and is graded very leniently. However, her final was far more difficult than i thought it would be.
FYE was awful, she was awful.
I think this is more of a problem with the course and less of a problem with her, though she did not help. Most of this class is just teaching information that was provided at student orientation. It does not need to be a separate class. With that being said, her lecture heavy and boring teaching style only made the class duller.
Read the grade above I received in this class. Assignments were not straight forward, some were only given verbally. Docked my grade. I attempted to reach the professor what I could do to improve my grade do to aforementioned issues; was given a bad attitude and no assistance. Barely passed a class that was supposed to be a dead giveaway of an A.
Dr. English is a pretty good teacher. FYE hybrid is a super easy class. If you follow her instructions with every assignment youll get a 100.
Her lecture material and lectures were very good. The biggest issue that keeps me from saying great things about her is her lack of communication and grading problems. I didn't receive half of my grades until right before finals so I was unsure of how I was performing in class. She also never responded to anyone's emails when we needed help.
For online classes, Dr. English doesn't teach you directly, she taught the class through recorded lectures so it was difficult because you could not ask questions about things you don't understand. She also doesn't respond to emails. You have to teach yourself. Get a professor who teaches you directly, it is much easier.
Dr. English was a teacher that would never respond to emails and didn't have anything graded until the finals week. Her class was extremely difficult even if you put your due time in you didn't put in enough. Grading was extremely heavy on final answer instead of process. Overall DO NOT take her for EE213.
Never responded to emails and unclear grading.
I'm sure she's never responded to a student's email once. Her entire lectures were pretty much the word "um". I'm so confused why she is the head of the engineering department
Circuits taught as circuits should be. Her tests can be difficult due to math error, but she posts answers to check your work towards the end of the test (although this can send you into a panic super fast). She is a very clear and easy to understand lecturer who provides solid ungraded work outside of class.
Avoid at all cost, her lectures are terrible, NEVER replies to any emails, gives terrible feedback on test, practice exams dont help, solutions dont help at all, and if she even suspects cheating the whole class takes the punishment and usually she suspects cheating on the first hw so its just out the window. Avoid avoid avoid! Oh and avoid her
Dr. English is great. My class was really big, so it usually took her a bit to respond to emails (she did always eventually respond though). She went through all the test material in class and made code examples of it as well. Grading was done by TAs, but they were all fair graders and if you wanted clarifications Dr. English was always available.
Good at teaching and will answer any questions in class. TAs were also very helpful. Grade really depends on how well coding clicks for you.
Pretty easy class, she gives very easy to follow lectures and since you're supposed to be writing your own code while she teaches its very engaging and actually beneficial. HW and quizzes every class, but usually not that hard and you can get help on the HW, + its regular, low weight grades, so its pretty easy to keep a high grade.
The goat.
Dr. English was a fine professor, but unfortunately FYE 101E as a class is relatively useless overall. Lectures will cover broad topics like research, group work, and interpersonal skills - all of which are skills one generally learns prior to college. Do your work ahead of time if you can, because it can be a bit much along with other course work.
She is um, the um, worst um, lecturer um, because all she does is stand up there and say um for the entire hour. The class is free A if you do work but is super annoying to sit in and listen to her um lecture about resources the campus offers. The class is required so if you don't wont to listen to um for an hour twice a week then take it online.
Dr. English is a great professor with reasonable expectations. If you watch every one of her lecture videos, attempt all of her practice worksheets, and spend at least 40 minutes per day working problems, you will pass her class.
Dr. English wants you to succeed. But, this isn't an easy class if you don't code. She had 5 TAs that grade your assignments and a quiz every class, they weren't hard but the grades add up. You need this class to get through engineering so taking her is a good choice and she's very helpful during office hours if you don't understand something!
Dr. English made First Year Experience a joy. I learned lots and grew to feel more confident in my classes and future.
Lectures were interesting and easy to understand. The group research project was very enjoyable and encouraged us to interact directly outside of class.
FYE was an easy class. If you show up and do what you're told, you will pass. you will have to do a couple of filler assignments to get a grade in. you will start a project with your assigned group but she will give a guide on it. present it at the end kinda like a career fair, youre only presenting to one person at a time. not bad.
Dr. English provided all information in easy-to-understand and well-articulated content for even the unfamiliar students to be successful in future MATLAB classes such as MAE 284. Excellent video content without fluff, overexplaining, or tangents. Expectations for the student in tests and homework are clearly and honestly stated. Excellent teacher.
If at all possible try to take English for circuits while she's doing specification grading. The class was unbelievably easy to get through especially because English and all of her TAs are really helpful on assignments.
Gives random bs quizzes on almost a daily basis. They will tank your grade.
Greatest professor to have your first year in my opinion!
The exams were difficult to do the coding under time, and the daily quizzes were inconvenient. She often made errors in the code and didn't do the best job of explaining the whole process of what she was doing. It was a bit hard to follow her examples especially as someone not familiar with coding.
Overall, great professor. She did a great job teaching EGR101, especially for someone with no coding background. I learned a lot in this course. She is also really funny and pretty chill.
She's a good teacher for the class. There are daily quizzes so make sure to review. Unfortunately, my RAs weren't the most helpful. The exams aren't the worst bc you have good study material to use. I don't think I came out good at coding, but I learned how to do something.
Be careful about your assignments. Apparently, I got flagged for AI on a project (which I did not. I used a video tutorial). I wouldn't care if it weren't for the fact that she hasn't held a buddy who had similar code to the same regard. She doesn't give you a chance to justify other than saying you simply didn't. Poor grading style.
I took intro to circuits online over summer with her and it was terrible. She grades only quizzes and exams, and there is no rubric and brutal grading. I was struggling early and emailed her 5 times throughout the semester for extra help to no response. She's a nice, but an awful professor. Understood material in the end. Will retake elsewhere
EGR 101 is not fun, but you just gotta do it. Not because of the professor, just because of what the course is. The biggest complaint is it is boring and unnecessary, but it is nothing to be afraid of. Easy A in the class.
I don't know whether I should call Dr. English a good professor or not because she gave us virtually no work in this online class (the last time she posted anything was week five). I didn't feel like I learned a thing in this class, but it was the easiest A ever.
