J Flad is the best. Very enjoyable class. No tests and few quizes

Sickeningly positive and giggly. Scary and not realistic. Has her head in the clouds and I imagine if she has friends they all pat each other on the back constantly. Will probably convert you to a communist. Takes too much pride in liberal nonsense. I am liberal but she is off the deep end. Drinks lots, expect to see her at the bar.

Can you say bubbly? She's always in a good mood and smiling like she just got out of a sorority party. But still, a good teacher; you'll learn a lot in her class. Make sure not to mistake her warm personality for intellectual ineptness: the difficulty of the course will catch you off gard. Will bring up her time at the bars a lot.

Very good teacher, makes you think and question several things you normally wouldn't. I'm taking this as a summer course and there's A LOT of reading. But there's even more reading during normal semesters as she said she cut out a lot due to time constraints. However the readings are interesting. She is very energetic and nice.

Professor Flad really cares about what she teaches. Although her class is not easy, take the chance to really read about what she is teaching and you will see why some of the issues she presents are important. Do well on your papers. Take her online class and you could pace yourself.

Her class is a little tough. But, she's very passionate about what she teaches so it makes it a little better. She tends to be a little insecure in what she says. But, if you do the work, which is a lot of reading and writing, you'll be fine. The tests are all essay questions which is kind of long and annoying.

She is a really cool teacher and i enjoy her class. She is also extremely nice to look at. She is passionate and loves what she does great class.

Shes easily my favorite teacher I have had so far. Her lectures are very informative and she is hilarious. She makes it very easy to pay attention in class with her energy and enthusiasm.

Flad is one of my favorite professors I've had at SU. Her class made me want to pick up a minor in SOC and I plan to take another class with her. You need to put in the work if you're going to do well because quizzes/tests are heavily based on readings, but she's very clear on what she expects. If you go to class and read you'll do well.

One of my favorite teachers that ive had so far! She is hilarious, attractive, very very sweet, the total package! Flad posts her lecture slides online, tests are fairly simple if you have common sense, and the near weekly quizzes in lecture are so easy you can probably just guess and get an 80. Just be very careful over which TA you get. GoodLuck!

Prof. Flad is wonderful, very smart and keeps things interesting. PARTICIPATE - it makes class MUCH more interesting! Can't stress that enough. Quizzes every week in discussion section, 5 reading analyses that are like 5 mini essays, super easy. Very easy to get an A if you go to class, pay attention, do the readings, and make an effort.

I really enjoyed this class. She genuinly respects all her students oponions regardless of what they are. Her quiz questions are really straight forward and help your grade a lot. (To be honest I never studied for any of her quizzes and usually got an A.) Her reading analysis's are kind of tough, but once you get the hang of them there not bad!

Professor Flad is the best lecturer in this school. She will be patient with your question and her lecture is inspirational. I am so glad that I have taken this class.

I've taken a class with Flad twice now and she is definitely the best professor I've had at SU. She is passionate about the material but she understands that some concepts are hard for people to grasp so she is accessible to those who need more support outside of class. A stickler for specifics in exams & papers - do the readings!

Professor Flad is one of the greatest professors I've had. Her lectures are extremely interesting and it's one of the only classes I don't fall asleep in. Her grading criteria is easy to understand.

Overall great teacher. SOC101 overall is just a joke of a class. Not hard at all mostly common knowledge. But she makes students sign in every class which is annoying. You dont need to go to lecture to get an A. You just need to do the required readings and study the PowerPoint on blackboard.

one of the best courses i took at SU. flad is an amazing lecturer and i took away many valuable concepts that i use in my every day life. even though there are only 4 assignments, i have to emphasize that she is a tough grader and you will have to put a decent amount of effort into them if you want to scrap by with an A.

Professor Flad made this class truly enjoyable. Attendance is mandatory but I never minded going to class because she always made the lectures super interesting. The textbook is mandatory, but I never used it and was fine. The material itself isn't difficult, so as long as you go to class, pay attention, and do all the assignments, it's an easy A.

Dr. Flad was an amazing professor. Likable, intelligent, and made you think. For an intro class SOC101 was perfect. If you follow the course material and go to lectures and class discussions (mandatory), this class was an easy A. Not only that, but the TAs were great and I found sociology interesting. There is writing required for papers and exams.

Prof Flad was absolutely amazing. I would take this class with her over and over if I could. Her lectures were extremely engaging and the material really isn't that bad. Flad is an absolute gem. She does use lecture slides and attendance is very mandatory. If you miss class, you're screwed for discussion quizzes because they're based on her in class slides a lot. Super sweet, cares a lot, but also strict in good ways.

Professor Flad is an amazing professor. Always learned and got something out of each lecture that made me look at society from perspectives I've never thought of before. Show up, take good notes and practice for the essay questions and you should do well

Shes is very good at covering controversial issues without causing offense, and provides numerous ways to review material outside of class (she posts her lectures online!). Be prepared to complete 2 easy papers each semester :)

One of my favorite professors I've ever had. So charismatic and clearly cares about what she's teaching. Although lectures are mandatory, she makes them so fun and interesting that I looked forward to going. I wasn't bored once the entire semester. She made me want to minor in sociology. Cannot say enough good things about her she's the best.

I really enjoyed SOC 101 with Professor Flad. A really great class where I learned a lot and the concepts we learned totally changed my way I view the world. Not too much work, just do the readings and you will be fine for the quizzes and papers. The TA, Athena is also super helpful and will give you feedback before you submit your papers.

Jennifer Flad is a great professor and made me want to major in Sociology. Her lectures are mandatory and there are quizzes every Friday but it is worth it. Her lectures are so interesting you will want to go to them!

Professor Flad was amazing. Her lectures were always super interesting and she used a lot of real-world examples to keep you interested. She was clearly an expert in her field. DO THE READINGS! They are needed for quizzes and exams and are usually interesting anyway. See your TA for extra help on the Reading Analysis and your grade will def improve

An absolute queen and so funny. Lectures mandatory and no opportunities for extra credit. Lectures are engaging. Do well on the RAs and the weekly quizzes and you'll be fine. DO THE READINGS. They're helpful and you won't have to study for the quizzes if you do. You need them for the tests too. Would take another class of hers in a heartbeat

You can tell she loves to teach this class and it made me choose sociology as a minor. 2 exams and 4 RAs, which are easy as long as you show up to class and discussion section. She literally gives test questions and answers in her lectures,Contradictory to other reviews, she respects all opinions so long as they are not outwardly racist or bigoted.

Professor Flad has a structured class which is great for kids who are organized and appreciate structure. All of her materials are accessible from day one and she loves getting to know kids outside of class. Would highly recommend her!

You can tell that she cares about the material and about students, light on homework but there is a lot of readings. Easy Quizzes every Friday and 4 easy essays over the whole semester.

She is very enthusiastic about what she teaches and really makes sure her students understand the info. There's a short quiz every friday about the articles she assigns and from her lectures. Not much hw, mostly reading articles and taking the quiz. Also she assigns 4 RA's for the entire semester, just answering a couple Q's in 4 paragraphs total.

If you're looking for a class that doesn't have a lot of hw DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. I'm a psych major taking senior classes as a freshman and this class is more work than them. She makes lectures mandatory, and gives at least 3 long articles and textbook pages to read every single week. The Reading Articles are SO unnecessary.

Professor Flad is a great teacher who has a knack at making lectures interesting and interactive. There is a ton of readings that are assigned every week, but if you're like me and find sociology to be really interesting, you won't mind it as much.

Flad was a good lecturer and fair grader. This class requires very little work and is a great class for knocking out requirements. Just apply yourself and youll be fine. Its hard not to get an A, just show up and study for the midterm/final. The readings arent super thick, but study them for the quiz and 2 exams.

Prof Flad had to have been the best professor I have had by far in Syracuse. She's mind-bogglingly intelligent and has a fantastic structure to her lectures. All topics in the class are very cohesively connected and you genuinely learn a lot. Not only would I take her class again, I would also love to minor in the subject later on under her wing.

Prof. Flad was a great teacher! Cares deeply about each of her students and gives fun / interactive lectures. Textbook was MANDATORY as she assigns weekly readings from it, along with many extra readings from (long) passages that correspond with the lecture of the week. Other than the readings, you have no homework other than 4 RA's.

Genuinely the most engaging professor I've ever met. In a room full of around 70 people, she knows how to catch your attention and make the information interesting. I loved getting to talk to her after class because its so clear that she cares about you and your ideas. Not only is she a good and passionate teacher, but also just a caring person.

I loved doctor flad and this class. Quzzies every week and mandatory lectures but if you oa attention in lecture you'll do fine on quizzes. Glad goes into great details in her lectures and doesn't read off the slides, she knows the information very well and explains it In a captivating way.

All tests are online (super easy) and essays aren't bad at all (only have to write 4 the whole semester). Really cares about her students and their well being.

I took sociology with Flad to fill a requirement, but I found it becoming one of my favorite classes. It is definitely a challenging course, but I would take it again in a heartbeat. She's super funny and caring and always available for extra help. It's a difficult class but taught me so much. If you're taking sociology, definitely choose Flad.

I absolutely loved her. She gives the best lectures, attendance is mandatory but you can do makeup assignments when you miss a lecture. Online quizzes every week but not difficult and open note. Two tests the whole semester, both pretty easy and 4 mini essays the whole semester. Overall, was one of the best professors I have had at Syracuse.

I really really enjoyed taking SOC 101 with Dr. Flad, her classes are so inviting and the atmosphere is great, i learned a lot actually even though i mostly skimmed the readings because i never had time to read them, i still understood what was happening in the class and her assignments are actually not that bad, 10/10 professor, would take again!!

This was an into class so it was a huge lecture but I found this class to be very interesting. Flad knew what she was talking about and was into the class. I found her lectures to be very interesting even though it was an 11am class. She had a lot of readings that were helpful to do. The exams were all online, but were writing heavy.

Great speaker and teacher, she really guides you through content and eveyrthing makes sense. Not a ton of vocab, lots of reading but very interesting texts and they all apply. Exams are online essays and we practice the essays throughout the class. Easy A/B class for sure.

Lectures were very engaging and assignments were fairly easy. All exams and quizzes are online!!! We are graded by many things so one bad grade doesn't affect your overall letter grade. Reading Analysis are easy and you only have to complete four the whole semester. Great professor and she doesn't push her ideologies on students.

She was super sweet and really made the class layout very clear. Just be ready for 4 big essays that harp on stuff from the lectures and from the 3-4 readings she gives out per week. You must attend the lectures and recitations as she counts them as a big piece of your grade.

Flad is a great professor. I'm finishing my semester with her, and I enjoy her class. Although attendance is mandatory for lectures, she makes them interesting and personable. All of the work and exams are online to eliminate stress. She cares about her students. I would definitely take her again.

I LOVED HER OMG!! The lectures were mandatory, but so worth it. She literally told you what would be on the weekly quizzes and hinted at what readings would be referenced on exams. If you put in the work you will get an A. The recitations were so fun and applied what you learned that week in lecture. The BEST class I've taken at SU.

Flad was actually a pretty good teacher. Her lectures were always engaging, although her opinions on things highly skewed how she discussed them in class; ie. politics, capitalism, etc. A lot of readings but you don't have to do them unless you're picking them as one of your papers.

Engaging lectures, my most interesting class this semseter. 4 Reading Analysis Papers, one quiz each week. About 4-6 readings a week. Midterm exam of online multiple choice and in-person essay section where you will need to pull examples from readings. Final exam in the same format.

Lots of weekly readings that honestly got very overwhelming. Lots of papers but she is a somewhat easy grader. Two exams making up most of grade that are very difficult to prepare for and take up a ton of time to study for. Honestly not a good evaluation of what we learned in the course; too much to remember and understand.

Easily my favorite class and professor this semester. Expect LOTS of reading, weekly quizzes, and 4 essays (spread throughout the semester). The hardest part of this class are the two exams, where you are expected to write essays and recall details from the readings. Unless you have time accommodations, you will likely be scrambling to finish.

Professor Flad was an amazing professor! Her lectures are very attention-grabbing and interesting, and she is very inclined to reaching her students. I loved her class. Generally speaking, you do want to understand all the topics and make sure you have a good grasp of all the readings she provides (the exams are all based on them).

She assigned 11 weeks of articles to read and refer to in the lectures, you only needed to do 4 of the weeks with 2 before the midterm and 2 after it. She heavily hints what will be on your exams. Even if you don't read every week which trust me, I didn't.. I would still suggest skimming through to have a general understanding when the exams come.

I really loved this class. Professor Flad is great makes sure the students understand concepts and loves when students ask questions. There are 4 essays and 2 exams. Exams aren't hard - manage your time and recall key concepts. She hints at all major topics that will be on exams. She answers emails quickly and TAs (I had Julia) are great too.

Took her for SOC 101, midterm and final, weekly quizzes, and 4 reading analysis options. There were multiple TAs and the TA I had graded all our reading analysis and was the hardest grader ever. While the other TA was a much easier grader, the midterm and final consists of ALL OF THE READINGS for that half of the semester. Studied so much got a B.
