a little spacy, but really funny. freely admits that she's a dork but its hilarious. she understands that not everyone is a shakespeare buff and she helps you out whenever you need it. definitely take her!!!
I love her class even tho its at 8 in the morning , she makes things interesting and doesnt drone on like some profs, she really helps you improve your writing and is really energetic
she is awesome. GREAT sense of humor, great discussions in class. tests/assignments are easy. Grades easily. She's one of my fav. prof's here at KU. I definitely recommend taking her.
Awesome teacher, she is funny and helpful. Very active always kinda up and going. Not to many papers but enough to keep you busy. Overall i would take her again if i could!!!
Dr. Forsyth is one of the best teachers here at KU. I definitely recommend taking her, even if you are intimidated by Shakespeare. You'll be glad you did and you'll learn a lot.
If you get a chance to take her for Shakespeare- go for it. She's the BEST! She's witty and knowledgable and she makes the class a lot of fun with creative activities!
Very helpful, very knowledgable, willing to work with you
If you go to class and read the plays, the class is any easy class. I had to take this class for my major and was registared 2 previous times for the class, but dropped because of the prof. I kept this class because of how Dr. Forsyth taught. She is a great prof. and I would recomend her class!
Definitely take Dr. J for an English class if you need one.
Dr. J is a very nice woman. Her class is interesting and I learned a lot from her. On her tests, the identifications are a bit tricky, but you'll be fine if you participate a lot- its 15% of the grade! Take her if you have to have an english course. She is very knowledgeable and an all-around great professor!
Forsyth is truly a kind-hearted person. Go to class and participate...participation helps ur grade greatly. Before this class i had no care for shakespear or poetry; she made me see that it is very interesting! It's not that hard if you do the reading...only gives 2 tests then the final. If u have to take brit lit, take Forsyth!
Tough but sweet.
Forsyth is the****...anyone who can make u appreciate Shakespeare deserves some props
Awesome english prof. Young, energetic, interesting. I didn't really like shakespeare but I actually want to go to class most of the time. One of my favorite profs ever, I'm taking her next semester for sure.
she is such a nice person, fun and so enthusiastic about what she's teaching. she actually lets us have fun with the plays and discuss them in a non-structured, informal manner. sometimes her directions for essays are a bit confusing, but she grades fairly easy and getting an A is definitely not too hard if you just do the work and participate.
Great professor! She has a sense of humor, too. As long as you do the work to the best of your ability, you're going to do decently in the class. Definetly take her if you have to take a Shakespeare class :)
I love Dr. Forsyth! She is definitely one excellent prof!! The research paper that she gives us at the end of the semester is kind of confusing though, but she'll explain it further if you ask.
Dr. Forsyth managed to teach me more about writting in one semester than any of my former English professors did collectivly. She has a passion for what she does and I am very thankful that I took her class. I strongly encourage anyone to take her class if you are looking for a class that will have a positive influence on you and your writing.
Dr. Forsyth is great! She's an excellent teacher and a really great and understanding person. She's always willing to help with assignments.. and the best part is if you're unhappy with a grade on a paper, you can rewrite it as many times as you want. She's great, I encourage anyone and everyone to try to get her as your College Comp teacher.
she is a lot of fun.passionate about the subject, so she gets the class into it as well.jokes around, makes class interesting and engages everyone in conversation.she's nice and not intimidating at all, grades pretty easily.
I love this woman! She's a lot of fun and makes everything interesting. The papers are a little difficult to write, but you can re-submit them as many times as you want so there is no reason to not do well. I'd have her teach all my classes if I could.
She's the best!
Dr. J is incredibly witty, and she really enjoys what she does! I've never seen someone so excited about Shakespeare and his contemporaries. I'm an English major, so I don't mind all the reading, but for someone who doesn't like to read and discuss, you might want to consider another class.
Dr. Forsyth is a very nice person who makes class extremely enjoyable due to her witty personality. I enjoyed most of the content but she is an extremely difficult grader. I felt we could have been more prepared for the tests because you were on your own when it came time for the tests. She's nice. She's a difficult grader. Don't take for gen ed.
Amazing, brilliant person. Class is fun to be in because of her personality. Tests are HARD HARD HARD! You have to practically memorize each book you read in order to pass it. Don't take for Gen Ed
Dr. Forsyth is the bomb dot com. She's the cream in my coffee, the spring in my step. She's like your first cigarette or the last payment on your 30-year mortgage. Put down whatever you are doing and TAKE THIS CLASS!
I was abosolutely dreading taking Shakespeare, old lit. isn't my thing. But her class is wonderful, very interesting, and completely discussion based. Definately reccomend, I am even considering taking another shakespeare
I took her intro to brit lit class and i loved it. She's nice, helpful, and willing to explore new ideas. Tests are difficult, but you just have to read the books. Not an easy A, but not extremely difficult either.
Dr. Forsyth is one of those professors that you just have to take. She is so enthusiastic about her work that it makes class more enjoyable. I had her for Brit. Lit. I and Later Plays and I hope to take her again before I graduate. If you have her for a class, consider yourself lucky!!!
She's a wonderful lady! Very helpful with work and lets you rewrite papers. Very enthusiastic about Shakespeare and makes the class fun! Definitely take her!
Forsyth was great. I'd recommend taking her whenever you get the opportunity. Class discussion was usually like pulling teeth, but her lectures were interesting (and sometimes humorous). She is really helpful outside of class if you need it.
she is very nice and funny. She makes Shakespeare easy and understandable. She is a tough grader though, but she offers revisions on her papers.
Love Dr. Forsyth! She knows everything about Shakespeare. You won't get by if you don't do the readings but they are interesting. She is a tough grader but lets you revise papers. Overall, I enjoyed her as a professor and I would definitely recommend her!
She is a great teacher! Very helpful but a hard grader. She keeps class interesting, even early in the morning. If you do not like to read though, don't take this class. Attendance is mandatory, skipping hurts your grade. She allows you to re-write your papers, but, heads up she gives only few points back INLESS you re-write the enitre paper.
I don't know if everyone else is on drugs or not, but do not take her! She doesn't like to teach, so she has everyone in the class do it. She is not very helpful and not openminded at all. It's her way or the highway
I hated Shakespeare, I somewhat liked shakespeare before this class and I left hating it. Stupid assignments that didnt make sense and I dont feel like i learned anything!
I do NOT recommend taking this professor unless, you plan on being tested on stuff she NEVER taught. All you do every class period is read a story or poem and the whole class gives their opinion on it. She never actually teaches ANYTHING! All her papers are confusing and on material she never taught!!
One of the finest professors KU has to offer! She's brilliant, she cares about her students, and she loves what she does. I hated Shakespeare before taking her class, but she caused me to develop an appreciation for his work. She's challenging, for sure, but you learn a lot.
Wonderful professor. Smartest teacher I've had here. If you care and try, you do well in her class and get valuable info and skills. If you phone it in, you may not appreciate her.
This is a professor who will always help you if you seek her. Her class is very interesting, but do not take it if you aren't interested in Shakespeare. I feel that is very straightforward. This is a brilliant professor and has a lot to offer if you listen and ask her questions. She will improve your paper writing significantly!
I'll be honest, I disliked the stories we had to read, but she made me not dread going to class quite as much. She has so much energy and passion and can make even the dullest subject seem interesting. Her class isn't the easiest in the world but I'd totally recommend her if you need to take English Lit.
She's an amazing professor! She likes to help the students and there's a lot of extra credit opportunities that can help you boost your grade to A. However, you will have to read a lot in her class, but it's not bad.
Worst class ive ever taken at kutztown. Grades are based off analyses that she grades so hard youre lucky youll get a c. Class is boring and all you do is read pointless books. Get out while you can
There are no tests in this class. She did have one pop quiz because no one was reading the text. It is all papers. They can be very confusing but if you talk to her about them, she will help you. She can be a tough grader but will provide you with good feedback.
To be honest, not a fan of the curriculum: gender was discussed too often for a non-gender studies course. I was lost for my writing - vague grading criteria. Prepare to do a lot of reading/two-page-long writing. She was clear in her lectures and personable, rarely got bored. I'm lukewarm because I didn't learn much, but it wasn't bad overall.
She's very to-the-point, and I think it's a really simplistic class for non-English majors. The analyses aren't hard at all, and all the rules for the assignments are 100% laid out for you. She answers emails thoroughly and quickly. TAKES ATTENDANCE.
Be prepared to read read read, this whole class is reading. You have to pay for about 4 or 5 book. This class isn't meant to be hard but with all the readings it hard to keep up.
She grades the course like it was a 300 level course rather than an intro literature class. She was very vague on explaining papers, assignments, and readings. She hardly taught and made the students run the class, which led to a lot of confusion. I received low B's on my essays when I'm a Professional Writing major and very good at writing.
This was the hardest class I've taken at Kutztown so far. We read a lot more than I was expecting, and I struggled through most of the class. However, I souhgt out help towards the end of the semister and she was able to help me improve my grade. If you show her that you are willing to work, she will really help you.
She is very tough with grades. If she doesn't like your paper she won't grade it and will attach a paper saying it needs to be revised. Then she waits until the last minute to grade your revisions so you can't do anything about it. I will never take a class with her again if I can avoid it.
Really knows her material and wants to help you get it. Enthusiastic, fosters good class discussion. Grades tough, but she's fair and gives good feedback/revision opportunity. Don't be afraid to talk to her outside class if you need to.
Dr. Forsyth is a great professor! She is extremely knowledgeable and has a nice personality. I love the way that she approaches the class. She does grade papers a little on the tough side, but to me that's expected of an English professor. She gives you the chance to revise every paper, so it's not that big of a deal.
This class was something I was excited about taking but soon realized I wish I didnt. Everything was vague and she nitpicked the smallest things. Even you had one sentence that didnt look like you wrote it she figured you plagarized. She based her whole class off of her political views and I am not a fan of political discussions.
Listen, this lady is the reason Im not gonna be a writing major anymore. She gave me awful things on grades that I worked on for so ling, she takes forever to grade, and also she tears you apart literally to shreds. Dont take her if you dont want to cry at night because your essay wasnt to her standards or your poem didnt rhyme the right way
Shes definitely not an easy grader. She picks apart the smallest things, BUT she will then give you the opportunity to revise and then resubmit. She was always available to talk, and clearly wanted to reach out and get to know the students.
I am sure my 4.0 GPA is going down. She takes forever to grade her assignments and she is a tough grader + her feedback makes no sense. Also, she just throws assignments at you without teaching you about the subject first, and THERE ARE SO MANY ASSIGNMENTS YOU DON'T HAVE TIME TO BREATHE. But she's a great person.
This class legitimately made me come to the decision to drop out. I'm failing this class despite doing the work just for missing class one too many times, and I was literally in the hospital but still no exemption. She never grades anything, she's rude, and she'll ruin your semester for sure.
She is the worst teacher I have ever had.Not only does she not grade a single thing but when she does it is beyond harsh. She does not teach anything and expects way too much.Class discussions are only what she wants to talk about and she only wants to hear a white straight Christian perspective. OFFICE HOURS ARE AWFUL!!! She gives bad vague advice
She legit hasn't graded jack squat this entire semester, and the things she has, she gives really vague feedback that doesn't help you. She keeps apologizing for not grading, but she just won't give. I have no idea where I stand in this class.
AVOID HER. failed me for missing 10 days (allowed 7 w no exceptions)discussions are just the class talking about nonsense. taught nothing and threw so many assignments at us. didn't grade anything til the final weeks of semester and when she finally did she was very harsh. Unprofessional, left in my paper feedback that i failed the course!!!!
Great person, ineffective teacher. Didn't grade anything until the last few weeks, & I didn't learn as much as I could have with proper feedback. The feedback she did give was extremely thorough, but picky/harsh, & she took several days to reply to time-sensitive emails. Class discussions were unhelpful & nonsense; she takes a "superior" approach.
Girlie has worst taste than oscar the grouch. We read "works" that span from an ESL course syllabus in the poetry unit to a screenplay from Seinfield. There were no grades till the day they were due. How is that conducive to learning? She likes failing kids despite A's and Covid you will fail if you miss 6 classes which is against KU policy so...?
Dr. Forsyth is passionate about Shakespeare and the Renaissance which allowed for such a great class this semester. Make sure you read (yes there is frequent reading) and participate, she prefers to have everyone be involved in the conversations. Her enthusiasm for the content is truly inspiring, and she brings good energy to each class.
Basically, she is very nice and chill and understanding. However, this is a gen ed and 90% of the class is not English majors, she makes it hard. Doesn't grade on a traditional point scale, will get a 3 or 7 out of 10. She is too harsh, the feedback isn't helpful and the workload is too much and too demanding for an intro level class.
I was stressed about my grade all semester. Not a lot of assignments and grades by 3,5,7 or 10/10. I received a 50 with feedback: "you covered the basic requirements, but..." Still confused as how that deserves a 50. Fortunately there is no final and she allowed all assignments to be revised and I was able to raise my grades to 100s, it wasn't easy
She is a nice woman, but VERY hard on you. Your best work is normally not good enough. She grades very slowly. She does allow revisions for assignments, which is nice. I liked her as a person, but not a professor.
I can tell she is passionate about English, but I don't click with her. She grades really hard, but also really slow so I have no idea where I stand in this class. She seemed kind, but her class makes me so nervous. She brings baked goods for peer review. It cannot be overstated how hard her class is. I don't hate her but I will probably avoid her.
Dr. Forsyth is super passionate about Shakespeare and isn't afraid to show it. She's a tough professor to have discussions with because she thinks that only her ideas are right and everyone else's is wrong. In addition, she thinks that everyone loves shakespeare which is not the case. She was nice to me, but not others who struggled in the class.
If you can avoid taking this professor, please do. Not only will you be teaching yourself everything, but she assigns a lot of work with short deadlines. She seems to think her class is the only one her students have. She expects everyone to turn assignments in on time, while she grades one assignment every two months. Avoid her at all costs.
I think she was really good at giving criticism on papers and letting me know where they need work Only downside she grades things slowly and the strict attendance policy
This class is pretty decent with the grades being 3 papers, minimal extra assignments, and participation. Professor Forsyth is pretty easygoing but her grading can be unclear a bit yet she isn't a tough grader, it can take her a while to grade things. You do have to print readings for class but this class is very passable if you put in effort.
Forsyth is a nice person, but dont expect for grades to be given till weeks or months after your assignment has been turned in. As someone who has taken 4 years of college this class was very boring to me and I missed a lot of class for this reason. She gives you 7 Days of even when out sick. You only get 7 Days.
Do not take her or this course if you do not have to. Forsyth is a nice person but does not know how to lecture. Her classes are insanely boring. She only gives 7 sick days and does not quickly respond to emails. Expect most grades to be posted close to the end of the semester. Good luck to professional writing, she is the only one teaching WRI 100
I cannot stand this women for the life of me. She barley grades your work and you'll have no idea where you stand. She also grades super tough and has huge requirements for basic assignments. Classes are also so boring and are most of the time off topic. If you had to take her like I have to, good luck.
She usually goes off-topic during lectures & will go on rants about stuff that doesn't matter. I had a personal emergency mid-semester involving the death of a friend and she was insanely rude when I came back the day after the funeral. It felt like she was making fun of me for not being able to pay attention. I stayed quiet in her class after that
I was very optimistic at the beginning of the semester. During lectures she does tend to go off topic and doesn't assign much homework. However, when she does, the guidelines are extremely loose. All of the papers I have written have been on an "exploratory topic of my choice," and while this may be beneficial some it was a struggle for me.
She does not have clear directions or criteria for her assignments. There were only three assignments all semester long, which can ultimately make or break a student. It doesn't help that she grades everything harshly, and that everything is graded right at the end of the semester, so a student won't know where they stand until the very end.
Gives the appropriate amount of work for a 300-level literature course. Assignment criteria given with great depth and lots of details--read them. Cares about what she teaches. Cares about you, professionally and personally. Will give the most thorough feedback--that's why it takes a long time for her to return your work. High-quality instructor.
A lot of people were complaining about how they missed more than 7 classes. When you think about the number of days we have class, it is truly very little. On average, there are 15 weeks in a semester. Each week has two days of class. That should be around 30 times we meet for her class, typically less when there are holidays included. Do the math.
There was a lot of reading for her intro to pro writing class, but it was pretty simple and easy to pass. She's very lax with absences and she tries her best to give good input. Sometimes it feels as though she has no idea how to interact with human beings though, which is sometimes funny, sometimes annoying. She's a decent teacher.
She doesn't go over instructions at all and is extremely unorganized. She expects us to figure it out ourselves. Class is a never ending podcast listening to my classmates tell their opinions on different readings with no legitimate input or direction. At least she's nice and allows revisions, but I don't have time. It is painful
Most frustrating class I've ever taken!!!!!! I feel like a lot of grading is based on her own personal taste and not on what meets requirements, Don't take this Professor unless you are prepared to be on your P's and Q's!!! Be on top of stuff, ask for clarification, read her assignment criteria through, collect reciepts!
Not nice. Obsessed with Shakespeare in film, thats what the class should be called. Little to no focus on the texts. Horrible with 1:1 students. Very rude. Calls on your when your hand isn't raised. Brings in snacks that are not safe for everyone, then laughs about it. (allergies, etc). Would love to take again by an actual professor. Reported.
Very nice professor. Decent amount of assignments but not overwhelming.
She was the one teacher I could go to when I was struggling with not just her class. She only has three papers and participation. She will let you fix your writing to earn points, so it is hard to do badly. She really cares about peer reviewing, which is a good skill to have and will help with grades.
