She is very much a homework based teacher. A lot of the time the quizzes felt like they didnt match up to her lectures and they would remain locked after you take them so there was no way to review them on your own so you had to go to office hours to see it. This class didnt fit my learning style and I dont see myself taking her class again.
Dr. Fritz is kind and cares about her students. There's a lot of homework that sometimes feels like busy work (takes me 4-6 hours a week) and weekly quizzes, but the grading system is really lenient. You can get solid Bs on every quiz and still have an A in the class. Deadlines are pretty flexible too. There's a textbook, but I never read it.
Some reviews are saying that Fritz's quizzes didn't cover the material we learned in class, but I kinda disagree. Usually, several questions came straight from the study guide word-for-word. Once in a while, there was a question about something we didn't really talk about, but there's extra credit worked into every quiz so it wasn't a big deal.
I LOVED DR. FRITZ!! She's so caring and funny, but her quizzes were no joke. I liked the predictability of her course (2 homework, 1 study guide, 1 quiz per week). GO TO THE UGTA REVIEWS, they were so helpful for quizzes!!! She encouraged group work to work on study guides and quizzes, but even so her quizzes were still tough. I loved the class!
Dr. Fritz is amazing! I'm not sure if the material would've been as "easy" if we were in person but regardless she did an amazing job of explaining the course material. However, I 100% believe the only way I was able to do well on her weekly quizzes was because of the TA's. They SAVED my grade in this class, especially the UGTA review sessions.
This ranks in one of the worst college classes I've ever taken in the last 2 and a half years. She would be very passive-aggressive towards students for not understanding material which made it harder to learn. The weekly quizzes are insanely hard & the study guides & hws DON'T help. Please pick another teacher for your GPA and sanity. :)
Anything harsh on here about her is blown way out of proportion. It was basic difficulty for a college class. If you do the study guides and genuinely understand them the quizzes arent that bad. I went to lecture maybe 5 times. I highly encourage forming a study group because thats what helped me the most.
Dr Fritz is sooo kind and enthusiastic. As for her quizzes, they are pretty tough but they are open note and she gives out a lot of extra credit. She gives you pretty heavy study guides to complete each week instead of midterms which I honestly preferred. Go to TA office hours!!! The TAs are incredible.
Alot like AP bio; you learn the material yourself from the textbook (quite a bit of reading) and doing the textbook and canvas problems. Lecture was mostly to reinforce/ clarify ideas, but she sometimes asked questions straight from it. Study guide and quiz questions are often similar or the same. GO TO THE UGTA SESSIONS!! Literally saved my grade!
Great professor, lecturer, and person. Made the class very engaging even though it was all virtual and genuinely cares about her. If you are pre med she will prepare you well for the mcat.
Dr. Fritz is a ball of positive energy who's clearly passionate about biology. Her quizzes are highly application based. While the MasteringBiology homework and module study guides help further your knowledge, her lectures are KEY to doing well. If you pay attention to her teaching and attend discussion reviews you won't need the textbook at all.
There are a lot of assignments in this class but it is a fairly easy class to manage if you keep up and attend/watch all her lectures. She is very caring and offers A LOT of extra credit, especially on her weekly quizzes. TA team is also really good and as long as you turn everything in and study, you can be successful in the class.
A lot of people love Fritz but I did not. She is a very sweet woman but all of our homework was due before she taught in class which was frustrating if you did not have a strong background in biology or have trouble teaching yourself. I also thought this class had a heavy out of class workload. We had to do homework, a quiz, and a study guide.
Lecture was very good. There were weekly, time consuming study guides between 7-15ish pgs, then there were several textbook questions, Friday quizes were a bit difficult to get an A on, and the mandatory discussion sections were no help (probably bc of my TAs). There were also "experimental learning projects" that were a waste of time but required.
AVOID HER!! Dropped after a few weeks; work was excessive and she expected a lot of prior knowledge. There were hw, quizzes, study guides, & mastering biology modules EVERY WK (difficult when taking other math/science courses). Tests were difficult, didn't match guides. TAKE BIO311C W/ DR. I took this class Spring 2021. The course was completely online and, to me, was an easy A. She is super sweet and cares for her students! She builds in so many extra points in the weekly quizzes, so you could get 3 questions wrong and still get the points needed for an A in the class! Group study guides leads to less overall work. TAKE FRITZ!!
Great lectures and easy to talk to, but there is so much to cover in this course that you *must* do a lot of reading on your own time. There are weekly quizzes and group homeworks that are *really* time consuming: I found the group projects very stressful and tedious. Make sure you do your reading: lecture isn't enough to prepare for tests/quizzes!
Dr. Fritz had a clear point system with weekly Canvas modules (to supplement lectures), Mastering Biology modules (which serve as the textbook), quizzes, and discussion section. She builds in a bit of extra credit, but I found her tests, which were FRQ style, very application based and pretty tough. Overall, I found it challenging to get an A.
Dr. Fritz offers plenty of extra credit throughout the semester - don't miss out on that. I barely attended class and was able to do well because of the grade cushioning built into the course. The course is relatively fast-paced, so it might be challenging if you haven't taken AP Bio. Most of the exams are based on the material on canvas (hw+quiz).
Lectures were not amazing but Fritz allows for a lot of room for error. If you haven't taken AP Bio you will have a harder time. If you do the work and pay attention you will do fine. There are a lot of resources available to get a better understanding of the content. Fritz is very laid back and easy to talk to. I would recommend course.
Fritz is a really sweet lady. If you want a pretty easy A, take Fritz. If you actually want to learn, don't take Fritz. Her teaching/tests are EXTREMELY surface level. She does a surprising amount of spoon-feeding for a college class. There's also lots of homework, which isn't bad but can be pretty time consuming during busier weeks.
Dr. Fritz is really passionate about what she's teaching. However, I found the class to be incredibly homework heavy. There was so much outside work to be done in order to grasp the material effectively. Her tests were pretty easy since they were free response style questions that asked about basic concepts, and she gives A LOT of extra credit!
Dr. Fritz is the best out there! SO sweet and funny. Pros: - lots of EC - straightforward quizzes and tests - lays it all down for you Cons: - I wasn't a big fan of the TA's. It felt like they didn't want to be there at all - 1 group project, if you have bad partners then you're gonna have to do it all
I found Professor Fritz's class to be pretty difficult, as I did not have much background in biology. However, there are lots of built in extra credit opportunities. I thought the TA's seemed disinterested in helping students expand their knowledge.
Professor Fritz is very passionate about biology. However, this class is quite intensive. The homework is pretty easy but the exams are open-ended and difficult and I could barely pass them even when utilizing the open-internet policy. Lots of material covered in little time. It's graded fairly, but you need to attend lectures and study often.
Dr. Fritz is a good person and passionate about biology. Personally, I didn't attend lectures and learned the content the day before the exam, and never had any problems. Hence, I would say her class is very easy. I like her class but I never felt challenged throughout the semester.
I personally loves Dr. Fritz. I am an international student and she remembered my name when most time I only use my preferred name! She really respects every student and I absolutely love that. Class is easy to pass, I got like a 30+ / 75 in the final and still got an A, thanks for all those extra credits.
Dr. Fritz is super passionate about her job and the success/well-being of all of her students. She's very clear in class, and what you see in the lecture slides pretty much directly correlates to what will be on the exams. The exams are not multiple choice though, so memorizing charts and graphs is necessary.
This class is kinda too easy. The midterms are 3 free-response questions that are extremely surface level. If you actually want to learn in depth intro bio don't take fritz; but if you want an easy A take fritz
Fritz has very surface level lectures, I learned way more in my high school AP bio. The tests aren't hard they're just WEIRD. All pictures/drawing, everything open ended. If you want to interpret the digestive system as 4 circles with an arrow take her class. I don't feel well prepared for future bio classes because this was so vague and thematic
I actually genuinely liked her as a person, but I just didn't feel like I could grasp her teaching style. The exams were constantly about labeling diagrams, but sometimes I didn't feel like it really pertained to the course. Also if you don't find botany interesting, don't take her class for 311D. The homeworks are easy A's to bump your grade tho.
Fritz isn't clear about what'll be tested on her exams, but they were easy as long as you actually study her lecture slides. Everything you need is there. She was passionate about bio and was a caring professor. Many people complained, but she was one of the easier bio profs imo. Besides the test, the other assignments were super easy to ace.
If you plan to take Dr.Fritz, don't expect to learn much from her. Her whole class is listening to her talk about plants and memorizing a ton of diagrams. Her exams were all about labeling diagrams and weren't that challenging, but were very hard to understand what she was asking at times.
Fritz's quiz questions are all completely random and asks weird stuff that we were never even taught or expected to learn. Her tests are supposed to be tricky but are still somewhat fair. Her lectures are not that engaging in my opinion. Only take her if there are no other professors.
I really did like Dr. Fritz as a person, and she's clearly passionate about bio, but I wasn't the biggest fan of her teaching style. The tests are really weird and are a lot more conceptual/abstract than the material you learn in class, but going to lecture helps A LOT when it comes to quizzes and tests. It's really easy to get an A though.

Fritz is very passionate about her subject matter & a wonderful teacher! She offers a decent amount of extra credit on exams, which help raise your overall grade. Her exams can be difficult, but she is a fair grader. If you attend review sessions and discussions, you will do very well in her class. She also encourages group work and collaboration.
Dr. Fritz is a nice person, but not a great teacher. Her tests are only over a few things when shell lecture over many things and even go on tangents. You never know whats going to be on the test because theyre not a great cumulative review of all the material. Its just what she feels. I got an A but didnt learn much. I wouldnt take.
Really enjoyable lectures and clearly has a deep understanding of the content. Her exams are not difficult and the TAs are nice and helpful. However, I found myself spending many hours doing homework (15-20 hours) a week. The book work in this class is VERY tedious and a lot of the information learned is not essential. Overall, a mediocre class.
She's super good at explaining concepts and the big picture, and I really enjoyed her energy! However, quizzes can be pretty tricky and midterm questions can be worded a bit more vaguely than what I would consider to be a comfortable difficulty.
I love Dr.Fritz 10/10 she's hilarious. there's a decent amount of homework but it leads to not having to study as much cause the assignments are the studying. Love this woman, I plan to take 311d with her. Overall I didn't think the class was too hard.
She is great at giving you the information but the subject can be overwhelming. Biology 1 has a lot of information and requires you to study everyday to get an A.
Dr. Fritz is a very caring professor. The tests are very conceptual so you really have to understand the material. Her class is set up so that there are many, many ways to up your grade with extra credit, surveys, etc. You definitely have to put in the work, but it's relatively easy to get a good grade in her class.

Dr. Fritz is a very interesting professor, but I ended up enjoying her class in the end. She tells you exactly what is going to be on her exams which is great. However, there is a lot of homework and her quizzes can be quite difficult. She grades through a point system which allows you to make a pretty good grade pretty easily.
Fritz is nice but I didn't really like her teaching style. The quizzes are hard and the 3 exams are really conceptual. The tests are all FRQ and you have to really understand the material to do well. There's a lot of HW too. There's a ton of extra credit and Fritz can be lenient tho. You just have to put in effort to make an A.

Fritz is funny. Sit towards the front to get to know her. The tests are difficult, but easier if you attend all the TA reviews. The quizzes are tough because of the time limit. There is enough room for error in this course and my poor performance in the very beginning didn't hurt me terribly in the end, which is important for an intro level course.
Dr. Frtiz is a very charismatic professor. I would say her lectures covered more than you needed to know ,but the UGTA 2 hour review sessions solidified what material was actually important for the exams. Exams are all FRQ but only 10 percent of the grade + theres a lot of extra credit / drops that helped me get an A!
SO CARING! Clear that she cares about her students and is trying to set them up for success for genetics. I didn't do great on 2/3 of the midterms and still ended with an A because of her 500 point system! CLEAR WHAT SHE WANTS!! Study the "skills tested" she lists out before the test! Diagrams are her favorite.
She often gets on tangents in lectures and falls behind schedule, but she is very clear about what will be on exams. Exams are free response, short answer, which were harder for me. However, her 500 point grading system means with an okay grade on the final and the exams, you can still easily obtain an A. It's not a super stress heavy class.
This class honestly grew on me throughout the semester. Dr. Fritz gives out so much extra credit and as long as you do the homework and study guides youll do just fine on the test and class in general. Her lectures can be confusing but the resources and UGTA review sessions make it easy to get a A in this class.
My favorite professor this semester! Also somewhat of an easy A but you also do learn the material, for sure. You have to study to understand some harder content but Dr. Fritz makes it clear what she wants you to know and learn for tests vs. quizzes. So many easy points to earn in this class. Tests are 5 FR questions so I loved that too.

Just do all the homework and quizes and study the lecture ppts and midterm review for the midterms. there were 3 midterms that were frq, but it was more like filling in diagrams and answering short questions. Final was online. point-based, so just get as many as you can.
Dr. Fritz is an amazing professor! Her clear grading criteria (point-based system) provides you with outline to follow throughout the semester. There are 3 midterms, each of which are open response- but they all are fairly easy if you study the material. The homework and small quizzes make up a majority of your grade (+plus lots of extra credit!)
Professor Fritz was alright, I had no serious problems with her. She moved pretty fast through lectures, so be sure to pay attention. There is a textbook, but I was able to make it through the semester without reading it that often. However, she gives a lot of extra points, which brought my grade up a lot. I'm taking her for 311D as well.
Dr. Fritz was amazing and took into consideration students' feelings. There are 3 midterms and an online final that consists of two parts but you can take it whenever you want and use your resources. Dr. Fritz really cares about her students and makes sure to make all assignments easy to manage. She gives extra credit which really improves your grade and grades on a scale that is easy to pass. Dr. Fritz has an amazing TA team and tries to maintain fairness for everyone. If you need help going to office hours or discussion is your best bet.
Dr. Fritz does a great job on making Intro Biology relatively easy. She gives you a lot of resources and is tricky with her questions, but once you're a student of hers for a little it comes naturally to you. 311C and D are by no means difficult if you go to lecture and put in some time in discussion or review sessions. Really good TA team as well
Study the topics that are on the review heavily and quickly review everything else and you should make an A on every test. I made the mistake of not memorizing a table for one test, which single handedly earned me a 68 on that test. Few questions, but easy if you study right. Take the quizzes seriously, they add up. Overall great professor.
Dr. Fritz was an amazing professor! Her grading criteria was clear, and the class wasn't test-heavy. The exams were very application-based, which encouraged comprehension and not memorization, and she always took the time to make helpful reviews for each of them. Her lectures were also very engaging. 10/10 would recommend to 311C/D students!
Personally I didn't really like her teaching style. Exams aren't too bad and are application based but I felt her lectures were very surface level and I don't feel like I retained or really learned anything from her class. Very easy to get an A but I'm worried about not knowing enough fundamentals for my upper division classes.
Fritz is the gold standard of bio professors, take her class if you get the chance. material is interesting and in depth. grade depends on exam scores mostly, but exams are very fair and give clear objectives of what to know for them. quizzes can be tricky but not bad, most content is open note except exams. exams are all FR but don't be scared
Professor Fritz is a fun and understanding professor. Her lectures are easy to follow, and if you choose to read the textbook, she outlines exactly what you need to read. Everything is open-note except for the midterms. The midterms are all free response and mostly conceptual. It's more important to understand application than memorize fine details
Dr Fritz is a really fun prof and she clearly cares a lot about bio, especially plants. The tests are all free response but weekly quizzes and the final are online and open book. She is really helpful if you ask questions in class and the weekly TA review sessions are incredibly helpful especially before a test. GO TO THEM.
She is very caring and has a bit of a quirky personality which is great. Lectures are very engaging as she wants you to learn and be prepared.She does reviews the lecture before test that cover pretty much exactly what will be on the test. Test averages are pretty high and the final(and quizzes) are open note where you can work with peers as well.
I think she would rather be a biochem or chemistry professor rather than straight up biology but she was still good.
Had her for 311C and 311D. Overall it's easy to get an A in her class. Everything except the midterms are open-note, and I got an A w/ just going to class + review sessions and w/o using textbook to study. Her midterm questions are pretty vague tho, and TAs often had to clarify questions during the test even if Fritz insisted they're well-written
I did the Maymester in Nice, France and it was a 10/10 experience. You can do no wrong by going on this trip for this class. The content was demonstrated with real-life experiences, it was easy to pass the class and still learn at the same time, and it was basically a month-long vacation with my now closest friends. Dr. Fritz is so caring and kind.
Professor Fritz is one of the best professors I've had at UT. She is extremely clear about what to expect for exams and quizzes so as long as you pay attention you will be fine. I personally put minimal effort into this class and still got an A. Just make sure you understand any major topics discussed in class & go to office hours for help!

Dr Fritz has great resources for learning the material inside and outside the classroom. Discussion sections and Supplemental Instruction meetings are really helpful too. Weekly quizzes/homework assignments make the material manageable and digestible. Exams are all free response but practice exams have a good outline of the material tested.
Fritz is a nice professor but the lectures are tedious. There are a lot of homework assignments and external learning assignments that keep your grade up if you don't do well on exams. My biggest advice is to do extra learning outside of class and read the learning outcomes for midterms. Also, go to the discussions; that's where you'll understand.
She writes her long/complicated syllabus in comic sans, if that isn't enough of a red flag idk what is. But actually... she is awful. Random tirades/rants in class, ambiguous grading policy, and teaches you nothing. 10/10 recommend taking someone else for 311C.
I truly don't believe that I took any knowledge away from this class. Her lectures are extremely tedious, full of rants, and she teaches her own version of biology that contradicts online sources and textbooks. Her canvas page is incredibly disorganized and she will trick you into spending $50 on an iclicker that you can just use an app for.
Great class, the lectures can be confusing and repetitive at times but Fritz is funny and does a good job of keeping people engaged. Attendance is mandatory but taken through i-Clicker and curved heavily (you can miss a few days of class and still get an A). Her grading policy is clear and makes it much easier to earn an A in the class.
Professor Fritz is such a kind soul! I really loved talking with her and asking her questions because she is so caring and welcoming to her students. Lectures can be repetitive at times and somewhat confusing, but prepares you for tests well. Pretty easy class as long as you pay attention and work a little for the A. Her TA's are also so helpful!
Semi-easy A. Forgiving grading & easy points. A lot of this class is teaching yourself because Dr. Fritz's lectures are not that helpful. But, she's very kind & knowledgeable and will help you tremendously in office hours (so go!). Teaching team is also great! Weekly review sessions.
Dr. Fritz was a great professor, her lectures can get boring but she sometimes pops jokes out of nowhere. Her exams are all application based so you need to know the topics. The Canvas hw and discussions are great resources for exam studying. The quizzes are open resource so it's best to have friends in the class who you can work with.
Dr. Fritz is kind and compassionate towards her students. The test are very similar to the discussion activities, so be sure to attend those. She is reasonable about grades, and most of the exam expectations are described in lecture prior to test day. Overall she is a good choice for 311c imo
Dr. Fritz cares about her students and her lectures are entertaining with discussions. There is a bit of homework to do online as she follows a flipped classroom teaching style. She also puts a lot of emphasis on learning how to learn with her ELP activities. Generally, assignments were easy with exception to the open-resource quizzes.
Honestly, this class had me stressed throughout the year. Professor Fritz definitely has a unique testing style which takes some time to get used to. Luckily, the course is designed to give you extra credit which helps relieve some of the pressure. Although lectures and the readings helped introduce concepts, the TAs helped in learning content.
Although Professor Fritz looks and sounds like a good person, she is certainly not. The entire year I felt like I was on my toes whenever it came to her quiz and test questions, even though I knew the content very well. I felt like she cared more about tricking us with her questions, rather than actually testing our knowledge over the subject.
Dr. Fritz is super caring and wants everyone to do well in her class. Lectures are not mandatory and are recorded but I highly recommend going. Sometimes she can be a little bit vague on certain topics so be sure to read the textbook for clarity. She clearly states what you need to know for the tests so study what she says.
Go to discussions and office hours. Shoutout to Ryan he was an amazing TA. Midterms were FR and application based (can't answer the questions unless you know your shit) but final was online. Quizzes are open-note but study at least a little for them. Overall okay, there are better professors.
Dr. Fritz is very passionate and it shows. I found her class difficult to understand, but she makes it easy to get by with a good grade. Her tests are mainly all free-response and can be different from what's taught in lecture, as she values skills over memorization. If you build a relationship with her she will be kind and accommodating to you.
Love Dr. Fritz so much! The whole teaching team was great at communicating where students were struggling and filling in/curving the gaps. You could tell that she wanted you to go into 311D with all the knowledge required and more. Super accessible, esp during office hours. Only requires 85% attendance for full credit and a super easy grader.
At the beginning of the semester, Dr. Fritz seemed nice and understanding but once I had a personal interaction with her, I realized she was rude and sometimes unwilling to help. As for the class itself, the quizzes were difficult but taking them in a group setting helped. The midterms were also hard, but she tells you what to study for.
She wants her students to pass and will give you many opportunities to do so. Focus on her diagrams cause that's her favorite thing to test on. Overall my favorite class I took this semester but she is tough so go to class and at least study a little.
Wish I could have taken Fritz again for 311D because 311C was incredibly easy despite not taking AP BIo in HS. Midterms were graded out of 50 but up to 53 points and very doable, given few attempts on canvas homework and textbook, and only really challenging part were quizzes which are take home and online which she recommends doing with friends.
I found her lectures to be really uninteresting and kind of boring, even though I did genuinely like the material itself. Discussion sections are super helpful, as are the reviews she gives for each midterm. Attend discussion and study the review (both the one she gives and the UGTA ones) and you'll be fine.

Her class was easy to make a good grade in and she structured it to benefit students. However, I was not a fan of her teaching style and often thought that she was rambling and hard to follow. I did most of my learning through the TAs or outside resources like Khan Academy. Her exams were straight to the point and similar to the reviews.
Gives lots of extra credit and uses a point system to decide grading so an A is easily achievable. Quizzes were very detailed oriented and tests were fairly easy. Very sweet and a genuinely interesting person but hated her teaching style, it was hard to follow and she went over too many details.
the class is easy to get an A in due to the grading point system, but even as someone with a strong AP bio background and genuine interest in bio, I found her lectures to be extremely monotonous with lots of rambling. the midterms were hard and it seemed like she was trying to trick you at any moment. def don't recommend her for 311c.
Dr. Fritz is one of my favorite professors I've had. Her lectures are easy to understand, and she's very funny and engaging. The teaching team and reviews with Ryan saved my studying before midterms! Be sure to create a good study group for quizzes and studying. Midterms were straight-forward and a good assessment of the application of content.
Funny and has an upbeat attitude. Rambles a bit sometimes and made following along hard. I mostly learned by reviewing the lecture slides. Has an e-textbook for homework and readings, but I never did the readings, mostly just went over the lecture slides and would be fine. Has weekly optional review sessions that are helpful and recommend going to.
Dr.Fritz is absolutely amazing! She is the best bio professor and explains very thoroughly! The only prior knowledge of biology I've had has been from freshman year biology of HS. Trust me, anyone can get an A! The lectures and slides are most important for exams. She is also genuine, funny, and always making the class laugh!

I genuinely think Fritz is your best bet for 311C. Lectures can be slow and off-topic, but you learn all you need to know from modules and lecture slides are online. Fritz is hilarious and made going to class enjoyable. Tests are short and easy if you study (recommend looking at TA notes). She provides extra points that make a huge difference.
Professor Fritz was okay. I'm still not over her calling me out one time for not getting the iclicker question right tho (after asking if I got it and me saying yes but I was def zoning out bc it was very easy to do so). She frequently gave inspirational talks which are def memorable for the freshman brain. She is more than fair on test grading.

Dr. Fritz includes a lot of opportunities for extra credit, so it's easy to get a good grade in her class. However, some of her lectures could be vague and homework was more helpful for understanding content. She is very clear about expectations and the study guides she provides are a good reflection of exam difficulty. Laptops aren't allowed.

This prof is super relatable. She's pretty nice and tests are kind of the same format as AP exams. MAKE SURE YOU GO TO DISCUSSION AND PAY ATTENTION. Most of the tests are pretty concept based, but fair. You can also take quizzes with friends, but that doesn't mean they're easy! Tests are easier than the quizzes

I would not recommend Fritz to any future bio students. Her exams are majority open ended FRQ questions, and she has increased the difficultly of the exams from past years. Compared to the other bio professors, she gives far more homework out of class (learning modules, textbook assignments, quizzes, 15-28 page study guides, etc.).
She has made the test so much harder. Please don't take this class with her.

A lot of material tested or on quizzes are not in lecture or modules, they're mostly in the textbook. All exams are 90% free response. In total, it's a lot of work. Go to review sessions, the SI sessions also help as well. She is a good person and has made me excited about bio, it's just more difficult than what I hear about other bio professors.
I would not say she is a bad professor but there are 100% better to take, her midterms seemed like more a trick than most tests that genuinely test your knowledge. I felt like I knew the material really well but could not perform well with how her questions were worded. Def try to take someone else if you have the option!!

Professor Fritz is a very caring person ... outside of class. In individual meetings she was very accommodating and understanding that students don't always have great days. Pros: extra credit built into tests and weekly review sessions (GO TO THEM) Cons: HW heavy, rambling lectures, ambiguous test questions.
Her lecture style isn't great, she doesn't explain or teach things and just talks about topics as if you already know what they are. If you didn't take AP bio you will have a really really really hard time. If you did take AP bio which I did , you will still have a hard time.

At first in this semester I actually wrote a positive review for her. However, she has been horrible since. I prepare over 40 hours for each midterm, and they are still unpredictable. Each midterm is about 7 questions free response. Questions are often not what was covered. Attended every discussion, review, etc. by far the worst class at UT
This class is too tough with the midterms all being difficult free response and the final NOT being online/open notes anymore. For this type of class an open notes and take home final was vital to having students be successful. Now, I'm not even sure I want to be at this school. We deserve to have the final online like previous years
Take someone else. She was often mean. Only reason I got a good grade is because I put ungodly effort outside of class to get good grades on all the assignments. WHICH ARE A LOT. Midterms are unpredictable no matter how much you study. I asked a question once after class and she degraded and belittled me. I considered transferring because of her.
Take into account what everyone is saying. RUN. Maybe it is just our semester, but she was always on one. She lost my respect immediately when she decided to throw a tantrum and said to the class 'tell your neighbors to stfu.' I'm not kidding, those were her words. It's not hard to get a good grade if you get enough points from the insane workload.

Honestly, RUN. She'd spend ten minutes of lecture complaining. Most complaints were about the exams and the professor being mean to everyone. She told our class to "stfu" during the end of lecture, completely losing all respect. Her exams are hard and there's a lot of homework. I'm taking again because I was assigned her, not because I want to.
Absolutely terrible. You aren't allowed to ask any questions on the final despite multiple typos and mistakes. Way too much homework and quizzes-plus she's off topic all the time. I only got a good grade because there's built in extra credit. I'd still avoid her if you're pre-med/pre-health. You won't learn a thing.

I honestly loved Dr.Frtiz!! The workload was massive but I felt like I learned Bio. I especially liked her teaching style because she taught in a way that helped me make a connection between the material and the real world. If you were to ask me if I would choose to take her class again...I would say yes. she is v quickwitted.. keep that in mind.

Does Dr. Fritz give more busy work compared to other 311C? Yes, but it makes the test count for less. Studying can be a little confusing as it's not super clear what is tested. However, the test have built in extra credit, which evens out when she throws a tough question. I would take her again. She loves bio and wants you to do well.

I don't really know what to say about this course because I never understood a thing that happened in lecture and the tests were completely foreign to what was covered in lecture. It's not a hard class but Dr. Fritz isn't the best lecturer and switches from very sweet to hostile very quickly. Also, no laptops in class.

The tests are all on paper, you need your student ID, not a single MCQ, and no questions during the tests. Her lectures are funny and she is nice. The discussion section is important and the lecture is too but not mandatory. There's not that much homework. Chances of a good grade if you don't study for test are low.

I made the mistake of taking her class as a non-pre-med/non-major student. Her tests are detail-oriented and her lectures are basically an info dump (mostly because of how the course is structured). She's kind of funny and is passionate about biology. If you want to be prepared for harder bio classes, consider taking her. If not, avoid taking her.
TAs are the actual professor. My personal experience was setting up a private meeting with her to discuss how to do better in her class as I was at a B+ at the time. She was condescending and bragged about how many students dropped her class then told me I should drop her class instead of actual feedback.

She literally yaps every single class. Her exams are free response with like 2 MCQs, all are worded vaguely. It's chill to get the A cause of the extra credit and her assignments, but I have spent an insane amount of time screaming at her in my head.

Of course you need to do your homework assignments but they're usually easy and based off the lecture slides. There's 3 midterms that are very fair in my opinion, usually frq's but not too complicated. Tells you everything you need to know.
Love Dr. Fritz genuinely best professor I've had so far, I had her last semester too for Bio 311C and I couldn't have been happier. The tests are free response format allowing for partial credit. If you pay attention in the lectures and take notes you'll be good for the tests. Super fair grader and enjoyable lectures. Highly recommend her class.
SO UNDERATED!! This class is pretty test heavy, but her lectures are great with her covering exactly what will be on the exam. She assigns a good amount of assignments out of class but they are fairly easy and you can knock them out in an hour or so. Some of the TA's arnt great so if you find one you like make sure you attend their discussion!

Exams can be difficult as they are all opened ended, but partial credit is award as well as built in extra credit! She cares for students. Take her if you can!
Absolutely love Dr. Fritz! She is so passionate about biology and truly cares about her students. Just a heads-up: her tests are not multiple choice — expect fill-in-the-blank, labeling, drawing, or short explanations. Personally, I think this is way better than multiple choice and not overly difficult. Study guides are a bit time consuming.
311d with Fritz was pretty easy and had a very light workload. that being said, i felt that dr. fritz's "teaching" methods were ineffective and i had to rely on TAs/UGCAs and self-teach to understand content. the TAs/UGCAs were life saving though and i definitely learned a ton from them

The exam was filled with random, hard-to-answer questions that didn't reflect what we studied. It felt like she was trying to trick us rather than assess our knowledge. I took Fritz in the Fall for Bio 311C, so I knew how her midterms were structured. I started skipping lectures because she would honestly go on a ramble and I barely learned anything. The only reason why I still got an A in the class was because of the TA's, discussion sections, and review sessions. You get tons of extra credit which is nice.
Her lectures are unstructured, so I often left more confused. 311C was easier, but 311D was tougher she's a plant biologist,so the plant-heavy midterms were harder. The 311D final was tough, but 311C's was worse. Ignore her lectures and study everything.Weekly TA reviews helped a lot, and Asthma the UGCA was AMAZING (she's graduated now).Good luck!
Very nice professor. Cares a lot. Has HW, both on Canvas and on an online textbook. Extra credit is spread throughout the course (exams, random assignments, etc). The class was relatively easy, but I still learned a lot. Very enjoyable.
I taught myself more when studying for the test than she taught me in the lectures. Lectures are unstructured and she gives quizzes over material that we haven't gone over. (The material is in the quizzes it would just be nice to have them due once we go over it in class). Tests are weird. If you think she won't go over it, it will be on the test.

A lot of her multiple choice questions are hard and they could all be correct, you just have to pick the best one. TA's are so unhelpful and don't give any insight to help on exams.

75 minutes of rage bait. Lectures are unstructured, homework assignments are misleading, and has anger issues. Her tests are astronomically more difficult than anything we practice or are quizzed on. She expects you to flush out 3 5-part FRQs over something super specific (and often not on the list of stuff we are TOLD TO FOCUS ON) and 25 MCQs in 1 hour. Her lectures are all over the place. Don't recommend.

Any positive reviews of this professor are from before she raised exams and quizzes to be worth 80% of your grade. Her exams are not meant to test your knowledge, they are designed to trick you (she once bragged about it before backpeddaling when students confronted her). No matter how much you know, she'll find a way to trip you.
Insanely hard class. The professor doesn't teach properly at all. Her midterms don't match the material given; it is so much harder on the midterm, and her lectures don't make you feel prepared for it at all. There are barely curves, even when the whole class is doing so badly, and the quizzes are hard. Worst class ever, would never take it again.

The most you will get is 4 extra points on an exam, and three exams are what make up your entire grade, essentially! Will ruin your starting GPA. Grade is solely based on 3 midterms even if you do all homework and other assignments right. Lectures don't help at all. Out of all 311C professors, she has the hardest tests and harshest grading. The content itself isn't hard there's no amount of studying that can help prepare.
The lectures in this class are extremely useless, she's convinced that a couple of pictures and a graph will help us grasp the entire concept. She's one of those teachers that blames bad grades on the students instead of a bad test or just bad teaching. Lectures don't prepare you for tests at ALL. If you want a good grade in the class you absolutely have to take notes over everything she gives you. If this is the only bio you got, I pray for you.

Average on the midterms is a 70 and she tests you over content she said she won't, which is bad because midterms + final are 70% of your grade. Lectures are disorganized and she goes on tangents. Prepare to learn all the material outside of class.

The midterms were NOT over the level of content she prepared us for. She could fix this by giving generous EC, curves, PROPER practice/preparation beforehand that'll match the skill level of the midterms, and actually telling us what the midterm/final will cover. But instead she goes off topic in lecture and has her clueless TA's lead us
Says that her tests prepare us for "longterm" skills but that doesnt make any sense because why are you tricking us so shamelessly in an introductory biology class without any notice, help, or guidance beforehand. I've seen partidge's, sata's, and hansen's midterms and they are a better representation of your skill and knowledge. So unprofessional.
Most unforgiving professor ever
Her lectures cover content not on the exam and learning outcomes are only briefly covered. Most learning has to be done on your own and the TAs teach more than she does. She brags about putting trick questions on midterms, gets mad at students for not knowing content she didn't teach, and changes homework due dates after they were already due.

lectures make no sense and 110% of learning is on you with minimal support that works. extremely frustrating because your hard work doesn't pay off and she's super immature at times, even tho she acts like the "cool teacher". says she wants student success but only if we do things her way - that's not how learning works!!

If you took AP Biology in high school, you'll be fine. Lectures are useless - she just shows a bunch of diagrams and talks about them for an hour and a half, but some of them are on the FRQ. She is very available during office hours though! She'll tell you how the FRQs will be structured. The Canvas HWs are the only useful thing she gives you.
Basically wanted us to do as bad as possible on the three midterms worth 50% of our grade. Hopefully she doesnt do the same for the final.
I dropped this class because it became completely unmanageable. The lectures, slides, and reviews never prepared me for the exams, which felt totally disconnected from everything we were taught. I was constantly stressed, confused, and guessing. Easily one of the most discouraging and overwhelming classes I've ever taken.Worst part:NO EXTRA CREDIT.

Worst prof ever. Midterms are insanely hard and don't match lecture content at all. Ignore any reviews before Fall 2025 semester. If you're pre-med, pre-dental, etc., save your GPA and your career and DO NOT take her. So so so so so so so bad.

The lectures are completely useless. Dr. Fritz seems like she would rather be teaching a course on F1 instead of introductory Biology. Lectures usually have no direction and just consist of her going on tangents which are hard to follow along with. Granted, she's fun and quirky, but that does not make up for a poorly taught course.

Traumatic experience
Dr Fritz has been a very unforgiving professor during this semester. When students underperform, she will point the finger to anywhere but herself. When students do good, it's suddenly her fault. A very shameful way to introduce college freshman into higher academia. Not only that, but little to no leniency compared to the other Bio 311C professors
I would definitely not take her again. She changed the grading policy, so basically our entire grade is based on exams. The exams are extremely hard and meant to trick you. She puts things on the exams that we haven't even learned yet. There are almost no curves or extra credit. She prides herself on being tricky. Do not recommend.

every time i sit down just to hear her call something “dynamic” or “truly incredible”, i regret not leaving when i could. no prep is enough for the exam because some is simply a figment of her imagination, of which you will not decipher. my lecture was spent finding new ways to dilly dally on my iPad to get me through the grueling ragebait.
Fritz is an incredibly energetic and passionate professor. Her class is very "big picture", so brute memorization won't be as helpful as it would be for other bio classes, my notebook was 90% pictures. She gives you previous exams, use them as practice tests. Class is not hard, she builds on previous concepts so it got easier as time went on.
Worse professor I have ever had. Course was disorganized and materials that were supposed to help you study ended up just confusing you more. Paid for square cap but barely used it in class. Lectures were useless as none of what she said really helped. She states she makes the test to try to trick you and not to test your knowledge.
She has made me not want to wake up in the morning and live anymore. I am sick and willingly not going to the doctor in hopes that I will succumb to my sickness before the final. :)
The classes were poorly structured, and the lectures were unorganized and unclear. You definitely need to take the time to teach yourself the material. It was never clear what we would be tested on during the midterms. If you are stuck with her use the practice practice tests and the textbook to study for the midterms.
Take anyone else if possible. It's not worth to suffer through her class. Biology is usually my best subject but she truly made me hate biology. This was the only class I struggled with where I would study for hours and there would still be questions I'm confused on. You won't fail the class but you will have to fight for an A.
What made this class worse was the fact that not only does she make you hate biology she makes you not like her. I have to FORCE myself to go to class everyday but it made me nauseous to even see her face. BTW none of her lectures her, she is so disorganized that she has no idea what she is doing herself. She posts stuff that's not even on the test
I'm atheist but I became religious after this class, I prayed that I would never see her again and this was all just some sick nightmare :) If you study like hell and figure out tricks that she likes to do you will be fine, for reference I had like a 99 in all my classes, but this class I was fighting... hate her.

I've never met a professor who genuinely wants her students to fail. She would laugh at the fact she made her tests difficult and would say that B's and C's are normal in college when my friends in other biology classes would have their B curved to an A. good luck and i hope she gets fired.

I wish I could have just dropped this class truly, so many of my friends and people I know dropped her class due to failing/ having C's and I should have as well because it's not worth it truly. save yourself the trouble.

Exams are extremely tough and she doesn't do a good job at explaining the content. The TA's also don't seem to be aware of the class as we were given a topic on our exam specifically stated as “it won't be on there”
It's extremely possible to get an A in this class, and I don't think the exams are as hard as everyone else is saying (extra credit + straightforward study guides). However, her lectures are beyond meaningless and made me want to cry. You don't learn anything, and she blames poor performance in this class on reading literacy.
50% of your grade depends on your midterms, and she likes to include trick questions rather than questions that test your knowledge. This class has tanked my gpa and it is only the first semester of my freshman year. She will give you a list of learning outcomes, which she says is what you will be tested over, but that is not actually the case.
Provides vague learning outcomes, then on tests has super specific tricky questions that are not in similar format to our study tools, which makes it hard to decipher during long tests with a short time crunch. Doesn't curve tests like the other bio professors either.
Condescending during office hours, homeworks are due BEFORE lecture on unknown content, and lectures are more simple??? thus lectures are pointless BUT mandatory due to 25 dollar "instapoll" every class and she makes her own diagrams to put on the test
Worst professor I've ever had. She creates a hostile, stressful class, snaps at students for not knowing answers she won't explain, and makes intro bio feel impossible. The workload is extreme and the teaching is awful. If she's your FIG professor, switch immediately. If you care about your GPA, avoid her. My worst regret is taking her class.
No real extra credit or curves
The grade relies majorly on tests and there are no extra credit, curves, retakes, or reflections for points. She is a terrible educator who is rude to her students. It's almost impossible to take notes on her lectures and her online content isn't any better. The tests are purposefully made to be failed, homework is stupid and usually off-topic.
For your own sanity, please avoid her at all cost. If there are any good reviews, ignore them. Worst professor ever. The exams are structured to be extremely hard. She puts things she didn't even teach us on the exams and expects us to know them.

This class wasn't difficult however the lectures are completely pointless and she seems to have mood swings randomly. The grade distribution also seems to be made up as it states over 50% of students have above a 95 in her class.

Constant lecture tangents make it impossible to know what to study. Tests are super specific and often unrelated to what she focuses on. She gets annoyed when students don't know the answer, which creates a really uncomfortable environment. I was extremely passionate about biology, but she has made me rethink my future.
DO NOT listen to good reviews, either those people are out for your soul or she's writing them. Save yourself and take the other biology professors who actual curve and you will have an easier time. My friend would get her 80s curved to 90s. Here you can get whatever you want and you're stuck with it. run far and fast. ntm she is just rude.
Her tests are difficult. It's a lot of critical thinking and application which she does a poor job of preparing you for. If you dedicate lots of time to class and don't try to cram you'll get by with an A-, it's possible. That being said she is horrible and makes me want to jump in the fountain and not resurface. Short tempered, condescending, and makes intro to bio sound like rocket science. Vaguely goes over content in class and in discussion then gives lengthy very detailed tests with no proper or accurate study materials beforehand

I think some of the other reviews are a little dramatic. This class will not kill you, but it is distressing for sure. The tests are pretty difficult, and the hardest part of them is figuring out what she's going to test on. Try to switch, but if you're stuck, its not over. Watch Pearsons, do all the easy points. Her grading is pretty biased tho.
Literally the worst teacher I have ever seen. She lies about what's going to be on the midterms, she doesn't allow computers during lecture for "our safety". She overcomplicates the class way too much. Lectures are boring af. I would rather jump out of my apartment than take her terrible classes again.

She is a rambler during the lectures. Her exams are pretty challenging and they are worth a lot more than they used to be. The quizzes are worth 10% and they honestly are singlehandedly the reason why I didn't get an A. I shouldn't have to study hours for a quiz.
Incredibly disappointed with this class. As many others have said, the exams do not reflect your own understanding of the materials learned in lecture. Every quiz/test feels like a complicated English proficiency exam as opposed to an actual Biology exam. I earned an A in every other science class I've taken at UT, but struggled to get a B in Bio.
As many others have said this class can be very unforgiving due to the fact that 70% of the grade if from 4 exams. Some people are exaggerating the difficulty, but it is certainly not easy especially compared to other intro level science courses. Had 95+ on every intro chem exam but couldn't even get a 90 on a single bio exam in her class.
If Dr. Fritz actually cared about teaching her students biology and helping them apply it to their future STEM careers she wouldn't be such an unforgiving professor, especially since her tests do NOT properly test your knowledge on biology. She overlooks students' struggles and has not shown kindness or leniency when she knows she should.

Absolutely cooked prof. However, past reviews are just capping about absolutely no extra credit. She gives 3-4 points per exam and she even AP curved the mcq portion on one of them (there's 3 midterms and one final). She also gave 5 bonus points on the final. Again, this is without a doubt the worst teacher i've had in my life but let's be fr.
Lectures are useless, course is 80% assessment based, and wording on exams is confusing at times. A lot of people at ut are pre med (like me) and are in this class so I expected the averages to reflect that. No joke the average final grade was A-/B+ and exam averages are always 75-85%. I understand gen bio is a weed out class but still it was hard.
cooked professor ngl. If you have the opportunity to switch to a better teacher do so especially if you're premed. Some of the reviews were a little harsh as she does provide extra credit on all midterms (usually about 4-5 points) and on the final exam (5 points). This class genuinely felt like a weed out class and mentally drained me.
Fritz knows her stuff and is clearly passionate about biology, but this did not always translate into her teaching. Lectures did not go into too much detail but were good as a base to study using resources provided in the canvas pages (topic quizzes, previous midterms, study guide pages).

Dr. Fritz is a very disorganized instructor which makes her course much harder than it needs to be. The material is not difficult, but there have been moments where I had the motivation to study but just genuinely didn't know where to begin because it was unclear what to even prepare for. Every topic you study is a gamble hoping it's exam material.

While the class itself wasn't the hardest in the world, her lectures were so convoluted and extremely hard to apply to the content, she's unclear about what will be on quizzes and would get upset if the class didn't understand the content. In my opinion, lectures weren't helpful at all because I would end up teaching myself everything anyways.
Uses the bio department as an excuse for why her class is so unnecessarily difficult but the other 311C classes have such easy exams and a stress free environment while we struggled to prepare in this class. very difficult class to just be intro bio. every exam felt like a gamble. the tests were worded weirdly and set up to trick you. her lectures are not helpful and she goes on a lot of tangents. honestly, if you can, take another professor. she is not good, and the effort you put in towards studying will not be reflected on your exam scores.
The way she teaches may work for some students, but not for me. You will have to teach yourself all the material, but if you actually know the content, you will be good. The tests are easy if you study for it.

I study so much for the midterms and cover everything, and theres still words on the midterms that I dont know. She tries to trick you instead of being a test of knowledge. I hate her so much.

For an intro biology class it was difficult for no reason. Lectures are not helpful, all over the place, and just confuse you even more. Exams and quizzes are hard with confusing questions over topics that were barely mentioned in lecture, and there are no curves. If you are pre-med save your gpa, and your sanity, and switch out.
