Tests are really detailed and specific, know the ages for everything, final is rediculously hard
Grades like a wacko. Hard to understand.
Shes a good person. Lectures like a banshee and expects you to know lots of information for the exams. But she is helpful and clear. She also gives you specific pages in the book to read so you don't have to read full chapters.
Great teacher, very interested in what she does. Enthusiasm is contagious.
shes stinks, if u want a class taught by your mom when you where 5 than take it. who uses the word Baby in college to describe infants...ALL THE TIME
Developmental Psych. She can not write an exam to save her life! Confusing and ambiguous exam questions. Lecture easy to follow.
Tests are very hard and you have to know everything. Although, lectures are very interesting.
Her tests are so hard. She expects you to know everything. When you ask for help she just tells you to study your notes and the book. She is more concerned about research than teaching.
She is a great lecturer and a nice person. She expects people to study hard but <hello!> isn't that the point? I really learned a lot with her! Plus tests are all multiple choice :)
Dr. Ganger is very nice and uses lots of examples. I studied and got an A but she actually gives you a test question and an answer every day you come to class! So you go into the exam already knowing 12-14 of the 50 multiple choice questions!
This woman is impossible. Test questions are very unclear...when she said the words, "It's no my fault if you do badly, study harder", it just proved she does not care about the students. If I have to see one more picture of her damn children,
Teacher is knowledgable of material but can not explain herself. Tests are very hard and are very detailed. If class is taken, be sure to pay attention to detail.

I had her second semester and she was extremely difficult. She changed her style a bit from the first semester which I heard she wasn't too hard, but trust me, she was...
She expects you to know every tiny little detail for exams, but does not warn you ahead of time. Everyone failed our 1st exam, and we all complained to her. It DID seem like she made the last 2 exams easier though - responded well to our complaints.
Exams are hard, but she gives many examples. This class is small so it's much easier to ask questions in the lecture than it is in the larger classes she teaches, such as Developmental Psych.
God forbid a teacher would challenge her students. Yes, her tests are hard and, yes, the tests are detailed, but she tells you this going in, long before the add/drop period is over. College isn't for you if you think her classes are "too hard".
Her tests were not easy, but I went to class, didn't do the reading, and just studied a lot the night before each exam and I got an A. She gives you an outline of each lecture with spaces to take notes and posts her power point slides online.
Not bad at all, she responded well to students requests (review sheets, etc.) and even puts up a discussion board to ask questions before exams. Yeah, it covers TONS of material, but that's mostly only a problem when you get to the final. Study lots.
She took any and all fun out of that class. Unbearably boring. Tests were WAY TOO HARD for the material.
Dr. Ganger gave very good notes and the material was pretty interesting. The tests are not very difficult at all as long as you study!
Her tests must have gotten easier. My class is doing well. I think on the first test 2/3 of the class got a B or higher. She teaches well and I haven't had any problems in the class.
She is really into her work but is actually very boring in class. Has pet topics: namely twin studies and anything dealing with development of speech. Also likes to dress up slides with pics of her children. Cute sometimes...also kind of irritating.
Although the class is a little boring to sit through, she is very good about spending appropriate amounts of time on each topic. She is a very nice woman and is more than happy to help. She even puts up a discussion board for questions before the test. How convenient is that?
prof ganger can be a bit over your head and the concepts can be abstract, but nonetheless she's a very good professor and she really knows her stuff. recommended for serious students.
Wow, She is boring. Never was there a class that I didnt find myself drifting off to sleep. The class was really easy, but shes slow to put up lecture slides, and is not very friendly when it comes to responses on the discussion board.Easy professor if you need an A, not useful if you actually care.
Exceptional teacher. She really knows her stuff! People who think her lectures are boring just aren't interested in the material. If you're into psychology and/or children definiately take her as a prof! You do need to study before tests, but it's nothing above basic college level.
Her tests are really hard because she covers TOO much info and then asks specific questions on the exmans... very boring lectures, hard to pay attention
Great teacher!!! Very interested in her subjet and it shows. Definitely inspired me to go into developmental psych!! Her tests are very fair and I Have no problem keeping awake in her class. only complaint - she gets behind in class but she doesn't expect you to know what isn't covered in class
Her lectures were kinda boring, but if you are interested in psych you shouldn't have too much of a problem. She covers a lot of material, but her tests aren't too hard. She is very excited about the material, and she talks a lot about her kids. She is kinda weird, but overall not bad.
Excellent teacher. She is extremely knowledgable about developmental psychology and teaches concepts that are not above students' heads. Tests are very fair.
She was a very good teacher. The tests we're hard if you studied for them. There wasn't ever any material on the tests that wasn't covered in class.
Exceptional Prof. Very dedicated and very engaging. Excellent use of examples and interesting lectures. Fair grader. Highly recommended.
Detailed tests, but if you know the study guide that she posts, you will be fine. Helpful discussion board on Courseweb before exams. Overall, easy class if you put in a little time.
I went to the first 2 weeks of class and never went back...read the book...study the lecture notes...get an A
Her tests are pretty hard but fair, as long as you take notes you don't have to read the book. She's really helpful and nice, lectures aren't that boring. As long as you study you can get an A.
Wow! The homeworks are straight forward as well as the exams! As long as you study and actually know the information there are no tricky questions on the exams! The tests are detailed but easy! She is also very nice in class and willing to help anyone.
She really is a great teacher who loves what she's doing. Tests can be tricky, but as long as you go to lecture and use the study guides, there's really no reason you shouldn't get an A. She's supercute and willing to answer any question you have (and isn't afraid to say she doesn't know!)
She is a really great teacher!! Very clear in every aspect. Gives very good comments on every subject to better clarify anything. Homeworks are easy 5 points, but her tests can be tricky if you don't study. Class is hardly at all boring. Hey we got to watch an epsiode of wifeswap!! Very interesting topics to make it even better. I recommend ganger!
She is a great teacher and very nice! She's very helpful when you need it. Just be sure to STUDY AGES for when everything happens, and you'll be fine!
Professor Ganger is a good teacher. She is quite clear on all aspects of the course adn gives understandable examples. Her class is helpful for future parents. Be sure to print off notes before class, and attend lecture and you should barely need to study for the exams. A good teacher and interesting class
AWESOME!! I love this class even though it is at 9:30 in the morning this semester. She is very helpful before exams, she sets up a message bored on Course Web so you can ask her questions, which helps tons especailly if you can't make it to her office hours. She also posts her power point on Course Web so print it out before you go
Pretty cool. She's all about the subject and does a good job teaching it. Homeworks are a joke, tests aren't bad if you study and read the material once. Take this class
Her multiple choice can be tricky, but she gives a few simple homework assignments for easy points and lecture notes to print out that help structure information. I reccommend going to class though.
excellent teacher, I learned to love a fascinating topic and what she taught me has stayed with me years later
Prof Ganger is awesome. She is one of the most knowledgeable professors I've ever had. She is well organized, provides powerpoint slides, review sheets, helpful homework assignments that are not a pain to do, and makes great use of examples. I wouldn't say she's extremely easy. If you go to class, pay attention and study you'll do fine.
Out of the three tests, the first one was really easy. The last two were pretty hard to be multiple choice
Dr. Ganger is interesting and seems excited about the material. If you study the material and A is attainable. Tests are fair and are based on class notes, not necessarily the text. I loved this class, and Dr. Ganger.
Dr. Ganger is extremely helpful if you go to her office hours. she is also enthusiastic about the subject. dev. psych is very interesting and her lectures were also interesting. you barely use the book but its good if you need clarity. go to lecture and take good notes. tests are tricky but if you study alot you can get an a.
i took developmental psychology with her and was very disappointed. Her lectures were a complete waste of time. She relies on powerpoint to the point where it is a crutch. Nothing she says in class is not something you could have figured out on your own by reading the book/her slides/having a functioning brain.
I didn't really like her that much. She thinks that her class is the only one that you have during the semester. Her tests are really tricky, even if you know the material in and out. Lectures are extremely boring. She takes forever to grade scantron exams and is always late getting review material posted. I wouldnt really recommend her.
Dr. Ganger's class was very enjoyable. You could tell that she really loved her subject. Her exams aren't as easy as intro, but they are fair. Unlike many Psych classes, you can't drop a test, but it's ok. Homework is an easy 8 points each. Really goes out of her way to help with a discussion board to ask ?s and a study guide. Overall, great!
Very knowledgable on topic and keeps class fun. Nice lady.
I had her as my lab teacher for research methods. She grades fairly and is pretty lenient on assignments. She's funny too.
Her class is extremely disorganized. Powerpoints are useless and she often needs to edit them during lecture. She never seems prepared for class. The book is the only reason I am passing this class. The ta's arent even clear on concepts she attempts to explain. Tests are not easy. Dont take her if you actually want to learn.
Nice professor, does answer questions and has a discussion board online for exam questions. Unfortunately, her homework assignment are only worth 8 points. Let me tell you (coming from an AP Psych student and one who has appeared on the Dean's List many times), her tests are very difficult! Study every little annoying detail or else you'll fail.
Dr. Ganger's class started off pretty well and manageable. She redid the class half way through the semester because some people were failing (which most professors here wouldn't give a d@mn) but it went from a manageable workload to 30-40 pages plus a 1-2 page write up EVERY CLASS. Which was annoying because I was getting an A before.
hands down the worst class I've had at Pitt so far. She's disorganized and unknowledgeable. She can never answer questions students have. Her powerpoints are directly from the book and she never elaborates. Her tests are so hard with the littlest details. Do not take her, she's just a horrible professor.
Not that bad of a class. She presented the material in an organized manner, and is very open to questions. Tests are very specific, but not impossible if you study the material. Interesting subject and I would recommend this professor and class to anyone.
Really enjoyed this professor. Her lectures were interesting and informative. Tests were hard but fair and if you go to class and read the mateial they're doable. Gives homework every few weeks which is super easy and boosts your grade.
Dr. Ganger was extremely friendly, and made her class fun to go to. Her test were fair in my opinion if you attended lectures. I barely read the book and paid close attention to the study guide and easily got an A+.
I didn't interact with her too much, but she's pretty nice and informative. Class is easy enough, but you will have to study a good bit. Tests are straight forward. Decent effort = A. I didn't really try to learn, subject wasn't my deal. But I'm sure you can learn quite a bit. Lecture slides are somewhat unclear, so attend class (sometimes).
I'd say my experience with Ganger has been positive. The class is hard but she tries to make it as feasible as possible for you to get a good grade. A little over-opinionated in class it seems but she is quite educated so that is justified I suppose. Overall a nice lady.
Course consists of 200 total points, first test=30 pts, second test=40 points, third test=40 pts, final=50 pts, homework=40 pts, ALL GRADES COUNT YOU CAN NOT DROP A TEST AND THE FINAL IS MANDATORY. I would recommend her, but study alot because I didn't and my grade shows.
She knows what she's talking about and is quick with responding to email. I didn't consider her tests hard, however, I do have a vested interest in the area. If you work hard in her class, she will work with you to help you get the grade. Gives very good review sheets for exams. Book isn't necessary, but definitely supplements if you're confused.
She really is passionate about the material which makes it interesting. She helps explain concepts by demonstrating them. She provides good study guides & discussion boards are helpful. The homework is an easy grade booster given every few weeks. Her TA this semester, Kate, was very helpful, especially in email. It's a very manageable course.
No test grades are dropped, the cumulative final is mandatory. Not a blow off class, you must study hard for the tests. You don't need the book.
Challenging, but phenomenal professor in my opinion. If you read the assigned chapters, do the homework, and listen to the lectures you will do well. The exams are difficult, and extremely specific. Just make sure to memorize the important points
Prof. Ganger is very helpful but the class is challenging. A lot of information and reading. Attend class as lecture material is the bulk of exams. Do the homework, it's an easy 40 points. Went out of her way to communicate and accommodate during bomb threats situation. Highly recommend.
She's enthusiastic about her subject which makes class really interesting. There's a lot of reading and tests are tough but fair. A lot of memorization.
She is one of my favorite professors at Pitt! She is an intelligent lady, and she is clear on what you need to know for her tests. I highly recommend her.
Dr.Ganger's knowledge is well beyond this lab section of research methods, yet she is always respectful and encouraging, and never patronizing or condescending. I learned much more in her lab than in lecture. Golden lab course.
Take another lab. Assignments are due practically every week and she is a tough grader, with most people getting low B's/high C's on papers. Even Kucinski would be a better option. The work load is a pain.
I took this class to avoid Kucinski and I made the wrong decision. The work load is ridiculous and I have no idea how she grades. Assignments are confusing, as well and there is one due practically every week. Most people receive low B's/high C's on her assignments, and are juniors and seniors who know how to turn in quality work. Avoid this lab.
Professor Ganger's developmental psych course was one of my favorite classes I've taken at Pitt. She's incredibly knowledgable in her field and really great about answering questions in lecture. Tests were clear and fair, and she even handed out study guides before each exam too so you knew exactly what to expect. Take this class.
Yeah.... TAKE SOMEONE ELSE for lab. Unless you want to be disrespected and confused for the entire semester. She is very scattered and confusing and doesn't even read the assignments before she hands them out. And she is a very tough grader even though the majority of people in this have very little or no experience in this style of writing.
Out of the entire Research Methods classes, our class is the only one that is doing a whole mess of work. If you like emails at 11 p.m. on Sunday nights regarding classwork the following morning, by all means take the course. Scatterbrained, clueless, unclear. Few words to describe her overall teaching style.
Fantastic professor. In her most recent section (Fall 2014) she had a homework assignment due before each lecture based off reading. The hws total for 50% of your grade, the other half is exams. The day before the exams the TA would give a list of important things to remember. Do the hw and reading and study and you'll pass. Highly recommend
Jennifer Ganger is by far the most interesting professor I have had at the University of Pittsburgh. She is very interested in her department and is always there to help you. She makes her lectures very easy to listen to and I was never bored in class. She is very helpful if you ask for her assistance. DO TAKE HER!!!!!
Extremely knowledgeable on the subject and raises really interesting and helpful questions in class. Lectures were interesting and you could tell she really cares about her students and making sure they understand the subject she loves so much. She is extremely open to questions and very respectful and friendly. Would take again!
She's one of the sweetest and most helpful professors I've ever taken at Pitt. Yes, you have to put in some effort to get the grade you want but she does her best to make sure you succeed. Highly recommend.
One of the best professors I've had. She explains everything so well and goes out of her way to make sure you have an opportunity to meet with her if you need to. Must go to class as there are daily in class activities that make up a huge chunk of your grade. There is no textbook and not much reading required. There are also no tests, just papers.
I didn't really mind Prof. Ganger. She required participation for a 200 person psych class which I thought was odd, but ended up giving everyone the max number of points at the end of the semester. Sometimes the chapters we had to read were manageable in length, others ridiculously long. Overall, I would take a class with her again.
As long as you read and pay attention, you'll do fine. I didn't even want to take this class yet I found it really interesting. Homework is easy and the tests have nothing unexpected. Dr. Ganger is more than willing to help you if you have questions.
She requires class participation but it is quick and painless. Her exams are easy as long as you put in some effort and go over your lecture notes and read the text. She posts the slides online so you can follow along. There is a homework before almost every class, but it is short multiple choice and you get three chances to get 100.
Amazing lecturer. Very respectable and also very personable. Explains concepts clearly and grades fairly. She's very flexible to meet with you as well if you need help.
Second time I took this class (got a B+ the first time, long story) and I did more work this time and ended up with a worse grade. I'm very interested in the subject, but I think she's very dry and not a good lecturer. Requires participation in a big class, which is weird. Definitely wouldn't take another class she taught.
She was a good lecturer and gave out study guides for every exam so you know exactly what to expect. Just study her slides and read the book and you'll get a good grade. She also drops an exam so if you just do well on the 1st 3 exams, you wouldn't have to the cumulative final, which is nice.
Dr. Ganger provides you with all the information you need to do well in her class. The readings will help you, but aren't completely necessary if you go to class and pay attention. You have homework assignments on the readings, but you can easily scan the material. Easy and interesting class. I definitely recommend the class and professor.
Dr. Ganger is very passionate with psychology and you can see that she is through her lectures. However, her lectures can get very boring and hard to follow. Her grading for the class is very laid back with participation and homework being a large chunk of the grade. She's also very nice and easy to reach
Very interesting class in general. Some exam questions are unfair. I attend lectures, write notes, participate, and read the book and still don't know answers to many questions. Would recommend taking this class with a different professor, maybe you would have better luck there.
Prof. Ganger was an okay teacher, I love psychology but none of her lectures really made me want to learn. Participation is required twice and she records her lectures. There are 4 exams, one is dropped and homework quizzes before lecture. I averaged a high C on the exams and with 100s on my quizzes and participation I got a B.
You can tell she's extremely passionate about dev psych. She's a nice person, but her class is more difficult than you'd expect. Reading is necessary for daily homework quizzes on the textbook material. There is a participation grade (annoying, but painless). Exams are hard- you have to use the book to study.
Professor Ganger's class is quite dry but pretty fair. She gives homework quizzes before almost every class, 5 in-class participation worksheets, and 1 instance of mandatory verbal participation that all count towards your grade, but as long as you do everything then they just boost your grade. Her tests can be slightly confusing but manageable.
Grading is based on reading quizzes before each lecture, participation, and 3 exams. The quizzes require a lot of reading but arent hard to pass because you get 3 tries. The participation is manageable and the exams are pretty standard. Overall the class wasnt too hard, lecture was dry but necessary because some parts of exams come solely from them
Grading is based on homework quizzes, in class participation during lectures, and exams. You definitely want to read the book along with her lecture notes in order to be successful. Overall, I found her lectures to be interesting and hands on. she one day crawled on the floor in her skirt to demonstrate how babies crawl at 7 months. Overall, funny!
First psych class I took in college, very glad it was. Lectures were very boring, but there were random participation worksheets given out through semester. HW is an easy grade booster, and much of the HW questions are on exams. 3 tests and an optional final (which I recommend taking). Tests are a combo of book and lecture material
Dr. Ganger is super sweet and is always willing to help students when they ask for it. Her lecture was a bit boring and dry but she is very passionate about psychology and cares about her students. Her exams aren't super hard but you should definitely read the textbook and come to most of the lectures.
Professor Ganger was your average professor. She lectures heavily and expects you to know things in the textbook that she doesn't cover in class. Her lectures put me to sleep a few times and she didn't keep me engaged in the material. The class isn't that difficult, but you need to comb through the textbook for even the smallest details.
Dr Ganger is a tough professor. Lectures are extremely boring but mandatory because of the spoken and written participation grades. You have to read a lot for daily quizzes and exams. The quizzes are easy but exams are very hard.
She goes very in-depth with her lectures which I find to be very helpful. She explains everything she talks about by giving at least two different examples of what she just said. She gives two homework assignments per week and will pull questions from the homework and use them for her exams. Overall a Dr. Ganger is a good teacher.
She is passionate about what she teaches. She isn't afraid to admit she doesn't know something but she will also correct you if you say something that isn't right. You only have to participate orally once in the semester and her tests are set up for you to pass. A simple few days of studying before hand (and paying attention) will get you an A.
Ganger is nice lady, but she expects a lot for her exams. However, if you read for each lecture, do the homework, and attend lecture, then studying should be mostly a review. That being said, you rely on the book A LOT compared to other courses. If you are interested in D. Psych, then the class won't be difficult.
Dr. Ganger definitely does her best to keep the class interesting. Lots of textbook notes. People I know have said her tests are har but they dont take notes from the textbook; 25% of the exam comes from the TB and is material she doesn't cover. As long as you take good Tb notes you'll be totally fine. 3 exams and a final. Final is optional.
Not bad at all, she's a good professor. lots of online quizzes, but they aren't timed so you can just hunt through the book or google it. tests have some specific dates but they're not terrible, plus you can drop one.
I had her for developmental psych. Easy class, three exams and optional final. Some lectures can get a bit boring but she is good at explaining the concepts and really cares that students learn. She posts videos of each class online, good resource if you skip. Two-point online homeworks due before each class (from the readings) boost your grade.
I had Ganger for Language Development. There's daily quizzes/activities so attendance is mandatory. Grade is also from 3 exams and 3 papers but it's an easy A. Dr. Ganger makes lecture interesting and is by far a great professor for the class. Definitely take this class if a Psych major!!
There is an online homework due before each class based on the textbook reading, it's not hard but the readings can be time consuming. Same with studying for the exams, they are on a lot of material, and even though the material itself isn't difficult it is a lot of memorization and the exams can be a bit tricky, but you can drop one.
Dr. Ganger definitely knows her stuff, but she expects everyone else to walk into the course with the same amount of understanding. Questions on quizzes & tests can be very confusing and there have been multiple times where I've chosen the answer that seems to be right based on lecture material & textbook readings, but she marks it wrong anyways.
Dr. Ganger is a fabulous professor. She's very clear with her expectations, gives in-depth explanations, especially on difficult topics, and provides a study guide for all exams. As long as you keep up with the reading and show up to class it should be an easy A.
Dr. Ganger is the best! Very clear on her expectations and what will be tested. She gives great explanations and is helpful. Attendance is mandatory because she does TopHat questions in class for points and some material is only covered in lecture. The readings assigned are short but important because not all material is covered in lecture.
Dr. Ganger was super great! I loved her class so much, and I always wanted to go to class, even though I had class with her at 9. Her lectures were about 85% of the material, and if you take good notes in lecture, you can get away with just a few skimmed paragraphs in the book. Highly recommend!
The class is great along with the professor. You are graded with in-class participation through tophat 20 out of 40 questions are used, 8 out of the 9 online quizzes that you have 2 tries to take, and 3 out of the 4 exams. The exams are not a piece of cake but she gives you a detailed study guide and will answer any questions. Also Extra credit.
I liked Dr. Ganger and enjoyed the class, however I thought that the test questions were much more difficult than what she discussed in class. I went to every lecture and did all the readings and still struggled with the tests sometimes. However, she is very available outside of class for extra help if you need it! Would definitely take again
She definitely knows her stuff, but expects you to have as much knowledge as her. Also, exams are much more memorization based than actual application questions so get ready to read your textbook word-for-word.
Her lectures were actually interesting, and her lecture slides were so detailed. She also records her lectures, so if I ended up missing a lecture or two I was able to catch up no problem. She does TopHat in class that is super helpful for test prep and a great grade boost! I bought the textbook and it def helped, but it isn't super necessary! :)
Dr. Ganger is okay. Her lectures are kind of boring, not a hard class but her exam questions are all straight memorization from the book. Her study guides are too extensive and only about 60% of what's on the study guide is on the actual exams. She uses tophat but you don't have to be in class to do the questions
Professor Ganger is by far the most arrogant professor I have had at Pitt thus far. She makes other feel dumb for asking questions and answers with the most attitude. Lectures are so slow and boring, sometimes we get through one or two slides in a 50 minute class. Not necessarily a hard class, but definitely hard to wake up at 9 to attend.
Exams are fairly easy to get within the B+ to A range as long as you study for 5-10 hours beforehand. Participation is part of your grade, but is easy to get 100% on without attending many classes. Can veer off topic often, unfortunately. As long as you show up to class, do the homework, and cram hard the night before exams, dev psych is an easy A
Requires that you do a lot of reading and she tests you on a lot in the book that wasn't in the lecture. The lectures were kind of boring compared to other psych classes I've taken. Exams aren't too bad, but they consist of a lot of application questions. She also uses TopHat questions during class for participation. Not too hard of a class overall
Show up to lectures and read the textbook and the tests are fairly simple. Good lecturer even though she can be dry at times, but she's generally really sweet and personable and gives amazing examples to aid in understanding difficult concepts.
Lectures were dry. Some test questions were unfair because it seemed like there could be more than one answer for many. If there's a better option don't take her, but the class wasn't too bad.
Prof Ganger is nice & a good choice for this course. The material itself is very digestible. Once we switched due to COVID her lectures were recordings with slides and top hat Qs due. I would get the book because she will tell you to read info and won't cover it in-depth in class, but she will test you on it. Tells you exactly what test will cover.
Took this course remote we had 4 exams including a final( out of 25 q. can drop 1), weekly quizzes(not to hard 4pts each),and 4 short writing assignments. There are weekly readings, can be lengthy so try to do them as they are assigned. Recorded Lec posted + ppt so don't have to attend live. Exams can be a bit detailed/hard make sure to review!
Read the textbook, pay attention and take good notes during lecture, and this class is a breeze. Dr. Ganger is very kind, super knowledgeable and encourages asking questions and thinking deeply about subject material. Lowest exam score is dropped and short essays/quizzes/participation points boost your grade. A great choice for developmental psych!
I loved Dr. Ganger!!I had her for Developmental Psychology online this semester due to covid. She did not add any stress to remote learning and the lectures were amazing in my opinion. You will need to read all assigned pages- I found it extremely difficult to learn/retain things without attending all lectures and reading all assigned text.
Dr. Ganger is great. She is so nice and understanding, especially with online learning. I learned a lot in her class, and it was still an easy A. For her online class, our quizzes had 2 attempts and were open note, and exams were pretty easy too. We could also drop our lowest exam grade, so I didn't take the final and had a 99.6 in her class.
Overall a good professor. She is smart and explains the material well. Kinda all over the place sometimes with participation but explains the material well. Reading the textbook before class and taking detailed notes really helps.
She knows the material very well and her passion for the subject is clearly shown. For her online class, we had 2 attempts on each quiz and everything was open notes. Lectures were hard to follow at times due to the participation activity but as long as you turned something in you got full credit. You definitely have to put in a little bit of work
Dr. Ganger is the best psychology teacher I've had, and was the only class I really bothered to show up to. There are tiny group activities for half a point for participation but if you're lucky and get a good group, they can help you out if you can't make it to class. She drops your lowest exam and quiz score and the powerpoints really help you.
She is a very sweet and good prof. She knows what she is talking about and the class is fairly easy. Quizzes every week, couple writing assignments, and about 4 exams. You do have to put in effort though
Dr. Ganger gives you everything you need to do well. She provides notes and a very clear schedule of textbook readings/ assignment due dates. There are weekly quizzes, 3 writing assignments, and 3 exams + the final. She drops low grades and gives extra credit. She communicates clearly with students and is very organized. I would recommend her!
I took this class spring 2020, so the semester we switched online. She is an amazing professor and lectures on everything you need to know. Go to lectures and you will do well on the quizzes and exams. Uses top hat for participation, but only need to go to half the classes to get full credit in top hat.
There are 3 exams and final. Lowest dropped. 12 quizzes, lowest 2 dropped. 3 writing assignments and weekly participation. Dr. G is a really good teacher and she goes over the material really well. Make sure to keep up with the weekly readings and you will do fine. She gives practice exams before the real exams and those really help. Awesome Prof!
This is my favorite class post-in-class era of college. She clearly cares a lot about what she teaches, the structure of the class is very fair, and if you put in a decent amount of effort, it is an easy A. There are 3 writing assignments, but if you talk to the TAs about your paper, they'll guarantee you an A. The final is optional.
Dr. Ganger is super sweet and really knows her stuff! Be prepared to read the textbook, it is important to doing well in the class! She offers lots of chances to bring up your grade with extra credit, and for us the final was optional as long as you were happy with your first 3 exam grades.
I absolutely loved her class. I learned a lot, and I enjoyed the lectures (keep in mind they were 85 minutes long). She is a wonderful professor, and she does provide great feedback. Utilize her UTAs, they are VERY helpful, especially with the papers. Only qualm: her exams can be very dense, so expect to memorize all your notes practically.
Dr. Ganger is probably the best prof I've taken this semester. 3 exams and a final (final is optional), 3 writing assignments, and weekly quizzes (2 attempts, lowest dropped). The lectures were interesting and she explains everything in depth. Exams are very content dense and require a lot of memorization but they're fair.
Dr. Ganger is a very fair professor. 4 exams and the lowest is dropped, daily participation points in class, 3 writing assignments and weekly quizzes with the lowest one dropped. She cares a lot about her students but you need to read the textbook to do well in her class and on her exams.
This was one of my favorite classes so far at Pitt! I found Dr. Ganger's lectures to be fascinating. She is a fair grader as long as you try and is really nice outside of class. Definitely recommend!
Class was very fair, lots of reading outside of class though. If you do the readings, pay attention in lectures, and do the writing assignments, you should be reasonably prepared for the exams. Lowest exam is dropped, and open note quizzes boost your grade. Definitely a fair class and I learned a lot.
Dr. Ganger is really an amazing professor. Lectures are long, but she keeps them moving and engaging. All material in lectures are on exams which are very memorization heavy so definitely study and go to lecture. Open note quizzes boost your grade heavily, four total exams including final and you can drop one, and writing assignments. USE THE UTAS!
Dr. Ganger is a solid prof. Textbooks are required but skimming will get you an A if you have an understanding of psych. We had exams, quizzes, and writing assignments but they were fairly low-stress and she drops the lowest exam grade. She doesn't really answer any thought provoking questions in class and spends a lot of time on course logistics.
Dr. Ganger is a great professor! She is very clear on her grading criteria, and there are plenty of opportunities to get a good grade. She drops the lowest exam score out of 4 exams, and provides detailed study guides + practice exams prior to all exams. I do recommend reading the textbook prior to class as well! Her lectures are very interesting!
3 exams, with an optional final exam, but the lowest drop. (If you're satisfied with the scores of the previous 3 exams, you don't need to take the final.) But the exam questions are very weird: you have to memorize a lot of stuff. The median score for Exam 1 is 59.38, for Exam 2 is 62.09, for Exam 3 is 58.88. So be prepared to memorize!
The class was really interesting and she was really nice and passionate about what she was teaching. However, the exams were definitely harder than they should've been for a class like this. But you can do well on the other assignments without putting in a ton of effort so it's not hard to pass the class.
Easy weekly quizzes, 3 exams and optional final with lowest score dropped, 3 writing assignments with peer-review, and TopHat for attendance. Her presentations didn't offer much more than the textbook, and exams were heavily based on the textbook, so read assigned pages carefully and memorize. Study guides for exams are helpful if done thoroughly.
The exams need a lot of memorizations. Avoid her if you could!
Dr. Ganger's lectures are super engaging, and she offers Zoom as well just in case students can't make it. The tests are fair, but every once in a while there will be a question that isn't consistent with the lectures. She's pretty on-top of throwing out those questions during grading, which helps a lot. Writing assignments are easy, I'd recommend!
Do NOT take her! Her exams are very heavy!!
Her exams were a bit hard and her lectures were very very boring. Overall, the class wasn't terrible but it was harder than it should be
I really liked Professor Ganger. The class required a decent amount of reading and studying, but if you use the resources she gives you the tests are easy. She does word some questions weirdly sometimes, though. There are weekly quizzes, 3 writing assignments, and she takes your top 3 tests for your grade.
Very information-heavy class. Exams are hard enough but definitely manageable and an easy A- to A if you study and utilize her UTAs. Writing assignments and open note quizzes boost your grade heavily, and the UTAs would pretty much tell me what was meant to be on my writing assignments like they wrote it for me if I sent it to them to review.
All you need to do well in this course is to go to class, pay attention in lecture, and study a little and you'll do fine on the (3) exams and weekly quizzes. Although she goes at a slow pace, it makes it easier to retain the information in the long term. Exam 3 is the hardest so study the most for that one. Lowest exam grade dropped.
Difficult to learn and test heavy.
Ganger is likely my least favorite professor. She talks to her students like they're 4th graders & most of her content you have to read yourself. She assigns so many outside-of-class readings that they become overwhelming combined with other classes. Her study guides & exams are unbelievably complicated and WAY too difficult for this course.
Dr. Ganger is great. As someone who took other STEM classes alongside dev psych, her course is entirely manageable. She clearly outlines what you need to know if you're paying attention to the resources she provides. Many of her test questions are similar to ones from tophat, quizzes, and practice exam material.
As someone who is not a psychology major, this class was very manageable. There is a textbook to go with this class, but I never read it and still did well. For each of her exams she posts practice exams which is the only method I use to study and sometimes the questions are repeated onto the exam. Online quizzes every week and tophat activities.
As a stem major, this class was manageable with my workload. She assigns some readings from the textbook and a weekly quiz. It is not a heavy workload. There are 4 multiple-choice exams and the lowest score is dropped. She has practice exams to help you study. This class and professor are a good choice if you're looking for a psych class.
Dr. Ganger is a great professor, she is always open to questions and gives very clear answers. Definitely have to do all of the assigned readings and taking notes is really helpful. She gives weekly quizzes that are super similar to exam questions, and provides practice exams to use for studying. Would definitely take again!
While Professor Ganger seems like a very sweet person, I found her lectures to be extremely boring and dry. Overall, the class itself is fine. LOTS of reading, weekly quizzes, and papers. I thought exams were harder than they needed to be and the class is very content heavy.
i liked ganger! seemed to care about her students, but I found lectures boring. posted her slides and offered a zoom option so i used that mostly. posts lots of practice exams/resources to help. TA's were great. the only thing I didn't love were peer review writing assignments, some graded me unfairly in my opinion, but they did help understanding.
This course evaluates your understanding of the material solely through your ability to memorize EVERY detail ever presented in class. I currently have an A in the class, (after an excessive amount of studying) but I'm pretty sure I'll end with an A-. There are hardly any opportunities to raise your grade, & the writing assignments aren't a boost.
Lectures are easy to understand, covers textbook material w/o reading. Open to questions and has lots of review sessions and extra opportunities for help. She's used to accommodations and is aways willing to adjust to make sure your exam accommodations are available for canvas quizzes and paper exams. Only need about 50% attendance for full points.
Dr. G is knowledgeable & engaging. Class is based on both writing assignments and exams, and Dr. G had review/ Q&A sessions for most of them. Class is all lectures, but it's really interesting & slides are posted after class. I would recommend Dr. G & this course to anyone interested in taking a psych class. One of my fav college courses ever
i loved this class! if you put in the effort, and study quite a bit, you'll be okay. dr.ganger's grading guidelines were very clear, extremely organized, and provided many resources for help. focus on the slides and take notes on those! 4/12 open-note quizzes dropped, and 1 exam dropped. the 3 writings were reasonable - take your time on those!
I love Dr.Ganger! She is very kind and warm and willing to answer your questions. Psychology is hard to learn because it needs to remember lots of details (such as infants' age). Exams are not hard if you carefully pay attention to her lecture and read the textbook she assigned. Just keep pace with Dr.Ganger! She clearly explains the material.
Professor Ganger was great. Best way to get an A on her exams are to know the slides like the back of your hand. I found it helpful to also read the textbook to supplement what I already knew.
I loved prof ganger she is so sweet and caring. The exams are easy if you just pay attention and take notes on the slides in class/what she says and read the textbook. The writing assignments were annoying but were super easy.
This class was my favorite at Pitt. She is so sweet and drops many quizzes and lowest exam score. It's a lot of memorization--so definitely study. I only didn't get an A because I did bad on one test because I didn't study, but it's very achievable to get an A. Interesting material, just do the work and put in effort! She is amazing.
One of the best professors I've ever had. She is a kind person and has such a natural ability to teach. She makes lectures interesting even when the material is somewhat dry. Her tests aren't necessarily easy, but you can expect an A if you go to lecture and study your notes beforehand.
Great
Dr. Ganger's Developmental Pyscu course is very well organized. Students are graded on multiple different things (TopHat, Weekly Quizzes, Writing Assignments, etc.) and it all prepares you for exams. However, many of the assignments were dropped by the end of the semester. Attendance is marked by TopHat questions and you can attend through Zoom.
Class is composed of 4 exams including the final and your worst one is dropped. There is a writing assignment per unit where you anonymously grade your peers. She does in class top hats for attendance/participation during lecture, but all lectures are also on zoom. Dr. Ganger is super nice and always willing to help when you ask.
Dr. Ganger = slay! She made the subject of developmental psychology super interesting and connected it to current events. Definitely read the book and greatest piece of advice would be to stay on top of things during the semester. The exams are not too bad, but definitely study. Highly recommend making a study guide when she posts it.
Dr. Ganger is amazing!! She explains all the concepts so clearly, and provides exam practice which is exactly what you would see on the midterms and final. What's more is that she is SO organized. You do not have to worry about her class. All you have to do is keep up with what she teaches in class and in the textbook. Would take her class any day.
Amazing professor. She is so educated and professional, explains concepts so well. There is a lot of reading but if you're interested, it's not too bad. You're graded on a variety of assignments which is super helpful. She is super organized. She offers zoom lectures which is nice. If you work hard and study you'll do really well.
You have to put in a decent amount of work in to get a good grade, I slacked off a lot so I got a B, but it is definitely more than possible to get a good grade. Exams have lecture AND textbook/extra reading questions in them, but I found myself not reading the textbook after exam 1 and still got decent exam scores. Exam 1 is the hardest imo.
Dr. Ganger is one of the best teachers I've ever had- she walks you through all of the material extremely effectively, and has multiple methods for making sure you understand it (ex. through writing papers, exams, Top-Hat questions throughout class). She was sweet and understanding- I had an issue with an exam, and she resolved it extremely quickly
I took this class last spring semester and it was great. If you attend lectures, read the books, and study for the exam then you would probably do fine in this class. I recommend Quizlet, it really helps with studying and memorizing.
Prof. Ganger takes the first 20 mins of class to talk about anything else but the content we are supposed to learn and then never finishes the content that we are supposed to learn which puts us behind in class. Content that is presented is very brief and you basically have to teach yourself.
A lot of hw/readings but the class is project-based with 0 exams so it isn't bad. The class has 4 projects, which are all group ones that aren't too overwhelming. She is such a nice professor and loves what she teaches, doesn't mind answering any questions, and gives great feedback on assignments. She gives lots of class time to work on projects.
Professor Ganger was truly one of the best psych profs I have ever had. She was extremely organized, hosted review sessions (before the test to review and after the test to check what you got wrong), and just a very good professor in general who explains things clearly with fun examples. Listen, take notes and do the assignments, you'll do good.
She was clearly an expert and knew what she was talking about, as well as what we needed from her to do well. Lectures could get a little boring at times, but videos and TopHat questions throughout helped. Grading was fair, with opportunity to drop the final.
Project based class in which you work with a group the whole semester on different papers you write. Need to go to class for participation grade. Accessible outside of class and explains concepts really well. Very clear grader. If you put the work in, you should easily do well. Lectures in class, which is helpful to clear up the readings.
DevPsych with Ganger is interesting. It's important to go to class because she says important things that aren't on the slides, she's a little disorganized. If you ever have a question in the class or need help don't go to Ganger... she isn't the most helpful. Overall, a good grade is obtainable if you work for it.
Dr. Ganger is an amazing professor. She is super nice and cares about her students, and really tries to make her lectures engaging. This class is easy if you go to lecture, she lets you drop one of the four exams, and provides lots of study resources.
I found this class was a great foundation of developmental psych, and it's pretty easy. There are weekly quizzes and class attendance is logged, but she generously drops grades. All of her lectures are recorded and accessible via Zoom during class time so it is not difficult at all to stay caught up. Not to mention she is soooo organized!!
Dr. Ganger was a good professor. She makes it very hard to not do well. She has weekly quizzes which you get two opportunities to take. You also write three papers which are graded by fellow classmates. Exams are challenging but she does a great job preparing you for them.
Dr. Ganger's lectures are very interesting. Lots of research papers and readings that need to be summarized. She is a tough grader but her feedback was very useful. Overall, it can be stressful sometimes but Dr. Ganger allows some time extensions if you need it. This class is all group projects and no exams. Do not take it if you hate writing.
Dr. Ganger is so kind and cares about her students. NO EXAMS, just group projects that are graded step-by-step. I will say that she does grade tough (she once said no one got a 100% on one of the assignments just so you'd be forced to look at her feedback). However, this class was interesting and workload wasn't bad since it was split up.
Dr. Ganger's class was enjoyable. The lectures were long and content heavy but I learned a lot. She gave a Zoom option for class. Grades consisted of quizzes (1/week), written assignments that were peer-reviewed, and exams. There were 3 exams and an optional final that would drop the worst grade. Lots of information.
Does not take kindly to questions asked during lecture. Unwilling to explore other ideas. 4 exams (drop 1), peer reviewed papers, and weekly quizzes. Be ready for application questions on exams. Content heavy.
She will say you have to read the textbook, but you don't. Class isn't really that mandatory, just go to enough to get the tophat points, don't worry it's not too difficult. The tests are fairly similar to the practice exams, so go through them before the exam and you'll do great. Overall, easy A if you remember intro to psych.
Not going to lie this class kind of humbled me. Do well on the first two exams so you're not scrambling to fix your grade at the end of the semester. There is a lot of content on each exam, so do not waste time and STUDY EARLY. Tests are pretty difficult, but if you do the practice exams, it sure helps. Overall, go to class and be consistent.
The difficulty of this class lowkey caught me off guard. Exams are very content-specific so make sure to actually take notes and study beforehand. Your final grade kinda relies on how well you do on exams and some tophat participation. But overall, she's not a bad professor, I just hate how she chooses to test us.
I found it kind of annoying how she'd expect participation, but then overly-critique people's answers. It felt like she was trying to outsmart them, which was weird to see. Her exams could be very content-specific at times but were nothing insane. Go to lectures, take notes, give yourself enough time to study, and you should be just fine.
Very nice and course is interesting. Lectures are very note heavy, but you pretty much have to take notes. There is a textbook, however I never read it once and got an A. Tests are pretty difficult so make sure to study 2 days in advance and really understand the material. Wouldn't recommend taking as a GenEd in order to 'fill a requirement'
Professor Ganger's class is manageable with diligent studying. Although lectures can be dense, engaging with the material outside of class is key. I found unstuck AI and the practice tests very helpful for acing the exams. Overall, an informative course if you stay on top of it.
I LOVE Dr. Ganger so much. Her lectures are so interesting and you can tell she really loves the topic. If you take notes and pay attention to what she says in lectures you will be just fine. She posts a lot of resources on Canvas that really help prepare for exams, which are very fair and easy if you pay attention in lectures. HIGHLY recommend!
The lectures are easy and attendence isnt mandatory, she is overall a very nice person but spends most of our lecture time going over one topic and explaning it to students like we are children and then we get really behind on lecture. Started peerceptive writings which are peer reviewed and really ineffienct. Be ready to study for exams.
Dr. Ganger was so engaging and kind! She gave many opportunities for people to reach out when they needed help. Exams could be difficult, but the TAs were available to help you study. Only issue was with the papers, which were graded on Peerceptive. I felt these could be a bit unfair, as there wasn't much control over the grading you got.
This class was generally pretty easy and so were her exams. The only "bad" things I have to say are the class would fall behind because Dr. Ganger would go on rants and students ask too many hypothetical questions. Because of this, Dr. Ganger would rush to finish the content before an exam. Other than that, I enjoyed the content that was covered.
Dr. Ganger is a really good professor and I really enjoyed taking her class! There's 3 exams, 3 peerceptive essays (graded by peers, so not the best feedback or grading), weekly quizzes, and participation points. If you pay attention in class and take good notes, you should be totally fine.
Amazing professor. Had her for Developmental Psych and enjoyed her class. Lectures can be a bit boring (sometimes info is interesting). As long as you pay attention in class, you will be fine. Exams are very easy (if you study) and straightforward (literally takes me no longer than 25 minutes). Did not like the writing assignment tho.
Professor Ganger is a very knowable professor and re enacts specific studies to make it easier to understand. The content itself isn't difficult but the exams are more application based so it's important to study hard. Participation matters through top hat so go to class. She does post practice exams when there is an exam which is helpful.
Prof. Ganger is really nice and you should definitely take this class. Lectures can be boring. Graded on 3 exams (final is optional and replaces lowest exam), 3 writing assignments, weekly open note quizzes, and top hat participation. Also lectures are always available on zoom.
Dr. Ganger has lecture-based classes and attendance through tophat questions. Her lectures are fairly interesting and reading the textbook helps. Her papers are only graded by peer review so they are useless except for an extra grade in the gradebook. The exams are around 30 multiple choice questions and it is not hard to do well if you study.
I loved her! Exactly how a class should be, a little hard but if you put in effort it will pay off. Dr. G is extremely knowledgable and comes to class prepared with notes that pair up with her slides. I did not attend inperson and only did the zoom. She does tophat but there were 7 drops. 4 exams and 1 drop. 4 writing assignments and 1 drop.
Dr. G is fantastic—organized and keeps you updated each lecture. Lectures are on Zoom with TopHat. STEM majors, don't neglect this class; make Quizlets after lectures to stay on track. You only need to read for writing assignments. I learned so much! 4 exams (1 drop), 4 essays (1 drop), 10 quizzes (1 drop), and 7 TopHat drops.
i took one of her larger lecture classes and i also liked it! she is very accessible and understanding but she sets firm expectations for the class.
Dr. Ganger is the average professor, her lectures are VERY content heavy. There's around 2-5 tophat questions per class, I personally liked them because it helps you understand the content better. 3 exams optional final. The exams are pretty difficult, just have to make sure you take time to study.
Do not take her class if you're not a psych major, just take the other class that is offered. That class offers one cheat sheet page and Prof. Ganger doesn't. Also she makes us write three papers plus a group project that lines up right before finals so keep that in mind. Lectures are fine, just boring.
Loved professor Ganger! Graded on 3 unit exams and an optional final. There are also writing assignments which are easy if you pay attention in class. Overall engaging and fun class
This class was pretty easy and didn't take too much time away from doing work for other classes. Tests aren't as easy as you think they will be, but as long as you study based on her exam guide you'll be fine.
Dr. Ganger is a great option. There are study guides for each exam that tell you exactly what topics will be tested and there is attendance through top hat but there is a live zoom so you can still do it while not being there in person. There are a couple short projects, only one is a group, but if you want to do it alone you can.
Dr. Ganger really cares about her students and this class and is always willing to make adjustments to better help students learn. You can drop one of the three exams and there are easy points with beginning and end of semester surveys. The exams aren't too hard if you give yourself time to study. Overall, she's a great and engaging teacher!
I really liked Dr. Ganger except her exams had very specific details that we barely touched on. 3 exams plus an optional final and can drop lowest grade. also uses peerceptiv which sucks because people grade stupid and it just messes up your grade even if you did everything right. not a hard class just sometimes can be tedious.
Ms. Ganger was a kind and informative professor who kept us engaged in class via the Tophats. Moreover, her class content was really interesting while the exams were kind of hard but never the less, doable if you studied and put in the work.
nice, lotta talking, could crack more jokes, but good
Very lecture heavy. Lectures tend to be somewhat dull. Textbook readings are required, as the info in the book isn't the same as during lecture. Uses TopHat as attendance points. Uses Peerceptiv for a poster project and requires you to work with a partner. Difficult exams, can drop 1 or just skip the final. Not the worst, but nothing special.
Exams were lowkey challenging because of how much information we covered. There are a few peerceptive projects that I dont think really did much for my understanding but they did help boost my grade a bit.
Dr Ganger gives a lot of readings and projects. She's very kind but her grading can at times be tough. The textbook is free and attendance isn't mandatory, but you still need to go to class for participation points.
Her lectures help with understanding the content. There is a partner assignment, but it's really just having to do half the work. She uses top hat questions in class as participation points and weekly take home quizzes to buffer your exams. 3 exams and a final, drop lowest. Memorize milestones and vocab. Amazing professor and organized.
Dr. Ganger is so nice and makes a 1 hour 15 min lecture go by so fast. You learn a lot in the class thanks to her. She is definitely lecture heavy and not homework heavy, which is a good thing. Show up to class, take good notes, study for her exams, and you should be fine. I would 100% recommend her if you are interested in psych at all. Queen.
While Prof. Ganger wasn't too difficult (exams were fine if you studied and did the practice exams she made), her lectures were incredibly tedious some days; her slides have so much info (it feels like a TedTalk). That being said, she is nice, and the class isn't very hard. Peerceptiv sucks because ppl don't know how to grade. Recommend-ish
One of my favorite professors ever. The class is incredibly interesting and I learned a lot. Easy to get an A if you put in effort (READ THE TEXTBOOK), lectures can be dense but Dr. Ganger is very engaging. Lectures are recorded which is helpful and participation is graded through Tophat. Only thing annoying was Peerceptiv.
I really enjoyed this class. It took me a bit to get into the flow of her class but once I did my grade got better. Do the practice exams before the tests and you should do pretty well. She gives you a lot of drops at the end which helps a lot. Very nice professor that wants you to learn and suceed. Also read the textbook (shes very specific).
Dr. Ganger is an decent professor and is very clear on how her class works. If you read the textbook and go to the lectures, then you are all good! Her exams are all MCQ but very book and lecture dependent. I was able to score a 98% on one with meeting her and going over content. She is also really good with responding to emails.
She is a tough grader and quite honestly, not a very cool professor in my opinion. I emailed her about rounding my grade up from a B to a B+, I was literally .06% away and she denied my request. I also asked her a few times about a question I had on the test and all she did was shrug her shoulders. This class is fine but you need to pay attention.
