Her tests are the worst. They are only worth 20 points a piece, but you have to write about 6 pages to get a half way decent grade. Remember, details, details, details.

Very hard and tests are worth minimal points. For online course she gives pages and pages of notes (roughly 30-40 per exam) and makes you read out of three reference books. Unless this is the only class you have during the semester I would not recommend.

requires lots of detail on test which are essay but she gives you notes on exactly what is going to be on the test and the essay question is always something general that she covered the most on. I really liked her a lot but her style is not for everyone
Social historian beware!!!!!!
Tests are very hard with essay, multiple choice with multiple answers and fill in the blank with multiple blanks. If you are taking this class, be prepared not to have a social life, job or any other classes. Would not recommend this teacher.
Wonderfully insightful yet entertaining! Adds zest to the past, and spices the class with her sexy aura and appearance. Not for the hollow-minded;expect to think and question your assumptions about the past. JSU is luck to have Dr. Gross!
Very good on lecturing.....Makes it exciting...But the tests are very hard. Three short answer questions and an essay. Would not recommend if you wanted an easy A

I wish i had found out about this website before this semester. I don't mean to sound negative but this is the worst class I have ever taken and I like history. She goes out of 3 books and you have to pretty much read the whole thing. She just goes overit
Very good teacher. Up to date, intelligent, helpful, too new to become monotone in her lectures. Her only downfall is that she makes every class a womens history class. Definately biased, but superior overall.
A fine teacher, and a definite hottie. That Mr. Gross is one lucky man.
Incredibly knowledgable and accessable. Does not attempt the ease the problems of the past but presents them in an orderly, objective, and professional manner. Anyone that states otherwise is ignorant, and refuses to challenges their status quo mindset.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS ON-LINE! The essay questions on the test are very long and hard to understand. This class is impossible!
what a feminist! i thought i was signing up for a class about the history of the civil war...instead i got a course on the social status of women during the conflict and a lecture on how bad the men of the south were. what a waste of my time and money...go back to where it is you come from please.
She's a great teacher. I like the way that she presented class. I think that she can teach pretty well. She can get off on the femenist issues every once in awhile, but she's a great teacher. Go to class and you'll do fine. She knows what she is talking about.

I had a really hard time in this class and she was not helpful at all.
This wazs the hardest class I have ever taken since I have been in school. I did take it online though. DO NOT TAKE ON-LINE. Her test are out of this world. You have a book and notes from a website and that is it. The test are 100 questions and 1 hour to take it (T/F, Multiple Choice, & Fill-in). To answer the essay you better have read thewholeboo
DO NOT TAKE ON-LINE!!!! AVOID AT ALL COST. This lady is crazy with these tests! I would rather eat glass then take this lady again!
this class is VERY hard online.. American history 1.. very very hard. the tests are really impossible, i would definitly say to take the essay questions test rather than the multiple choice. there are 5 essay questions compared w/ 100 multiple choice.
I found her extremely helpful, especially when I had quite a few technical problems taking my exams during the Summer I semester. She is very detail oriented and if you dont know them your grade will show it. I suggest you do not take these courses online during summer semesters unless you have plenty (4+ hours a day) of time to read and review
Ambigious Quizzes
If you take her class online, I warn you that it really isn't a class at all. To pass, you must read the entire chapter twice, because she will pick out the most minute details that you'll still wish you had read it another time regardless. She doesn't give notes to study from, but rather a copy of each section's headline with a general idea. A Wai
THIS WOMAN CANNOT TEACH! she only uses 3 slides out of an 80 slide presentation/day and talks fast. 3 supplement books/write 2 papers and you only get 2 all essay exams. disscussion of the books is part of the grade. BE PREPARED TO WRITE ALOT! Did not get much out of her class overall.
i was really into this class until I found out she was a speed talker-had to get a tape recorder just to keep up. There are map quizzes but if you look at the maps more than once you're fine. The books are OK (Things Fall Apart is the best) and her tests are KILLERS if you don't study;details are important.
Speed-talker. Take-home tests. Extremely helpful and clear.
This was the most difficult class I have ever taken. I would not reccomend taking it online. She is a very crude lady. I explained to her on several occasions when I would be unable to take the quizzes at the specified times, and she would not work with me. She forced me to bring an obituary or program from my Grandmothers funeral to make-up a test
I TOOK THIS CLASS ONLINE.THE TESTS ARE TOUGH BUT AS LONG AS YOU READ & TAKE NOTES YOU SHOULD DO FINE.YOU MUST PAY ATTENTION TO THE DETAILS IN THE CHAPTER BECAUSE SOME OF THE QUESTIONS ARE TRICKY.THE DEADLINES WERE MANAGEABLE.USUALLY ONE TEST PER WEEK..TWO PER WEEK OCCASIONALLY. NO BLOG OR DISCUSSION BOARD ASSIGNMENTS.ONLY TESTS. OVERALL AN OK CLASS
I took this class and EVERY test was essay. She was HORRIBLE! Our first test was 4 questions, and It was a take home test..I wrote 14 pages and got a 78 because I wasn't 'detailed' enough. She lectures the entire time and expects you to retain every word and then use it on the tests. DO NOT take her!
Who does 4 tests, 110 questions (fill in the blank, multiple choice) in history with 4 chapter per test, no extra credit or assingments available when she know her tests are a beast! I wish I would have known about this site and her before taking the course!
I've had Dr. Gross for three classes, two honors course, and one 400 level class all of which were excellent! Yes, she is difficult, but you are in college you should expect difficulty. However, her classes are very manageable if you know how to do quality research. If you don't go be a business major.
YOU MUST READ!! ALOT!! The tests are tricky (mostly multiple choice) but if you've read you will do fine. The textbook was written very well and it made a boring subject interesting btw: she helped write it. I learned alot from this course. The sylybus tells you the expectations and you should heed it.
I'm not sure what some of the older commenters are referring regarding her online classes. I took her for both 201 & 202, and enjoyed the classes tremendously. They were very straightforward. Everything you needed was in the textbook. She basically tells you how to study and it works. Every test has extra credit. AWESOME! I learned soooo much!
As long as you do the reading and study, you can do very well in this class. There is hw to boost your grade
Read a chapter take a test. Every week. Write 2 essays that you won't get any feedback on. The computer grades the test that came from a test bank. The papers are graded by Cengage supposedly. She gets a kickback off the book cause she is a coauthor. Pretty sweet deal for a teacher to get paid to not actually do anything.
This class was extremely hard for me. There is a test every week on a different chapter and they tend to be long. The tests are very hard and you have to pay close attention to every question. There are no other grades besides the test grades. I do NOT recommend this class.
I took Mrs. Gross for History 101 online and I seriously regret it tremendously. As an incoming freshman, I had no idea what I was getting myself into and her class has hurt my GPA. She literally hasn't done anything to help me as a student. I have had to read the material and teach myself everything. She is also extremely rude when you email her to ask questions. You might as well be the one getting paid to teach yourself because she's a sorry excuse for a teacher. Don't take this class. EVER
She didn't tell the bookstore that her students needed the books until class started so I had to take the first 3 test w/out a book. Only grade you'll get is from the test which is once a week. I've asked for help & got very little of it. 10/10 wouldn't recommend.
I'm a freshman in college currently taking this class online, and am having a difficult time on the tests. I am an A student and currently have a C, and I'm tidying like crazy. This course is very hard and I would definitely recommend a different teacher.
Do NOT take this prof if you want a good grade. Even online her classes are extremely difficult - no teaching, only READING the pro-Communist book she wrote, taking a multiple choice test a week: questions with vague answers, trick questions, etc. Says not to use book/notes, but you can't get a good grade without them. Worst class I've ever taken.
I do not recommend her. Im taking this class online and the test are extremely hard. Youre not supposed to use notes or the book on the test, but its impossible if you want to make a decent grade. Also, if you email during the week about something, dont expect to get an email back until sometime the next day. I dont recommend taking her at all
I would definitely recommend this class for an easy A. All you have is one test each week, nothing else at all.
I took this class online and had no problems whatsoever. She was always nice and responded quickly to my emails.
This class requires a lot of reading. The tests are all 50+ questions, but most of the questions come straight from the textbook. Therefore, if you read the chapter before taking the test, you will do fine. All of the tests have extra questions which count for bonus. Dr. Gross always responds to emails quickly. Will be taking HY 202 with her!
there is a lot of reading required for this class and there is a test every week. you must read the material she gives you or you won't do good at all.
I took Jennifer Gross for HY 201 and 202. I had a 100 both times. Super easy class! All you have is a test each week. Which she posts at the beginning of the semester, so you can complete them whenever you want. I recommend purchasing the E book and using it for the tests, to search for key words.
Dont even bother to ask for a makeup on a test without an excuse of some sort. The test are okay but you only get an hour and a half . I would not recommend taking this course with this professor if you want a decent grade or smooth semester.
She gives you mountains of information that you have to learn in a week and basically forget because there isnt a cumulative test. The worst thing is that you have to get honorlock on your computer which will not allow you to have any tabs open or have anything out except a piece of paper. They will know if you are on your phone.
This class is ridiculous. You have a test a week which is on one entire chapter. You have to pay for the proctoring service she uses. She gives you in depth study questions along with several articles to read as if the 50 page chapters aren't enough already. I am taking a full load of classes and she makes this class next to impossible. Hated it.
The worst class I have ever taken. First off you have to pay for system that VIDEOS you when you take a test. Then you have to remember 70 textbook pages worth of information you will forget in a week. SEVENTY!! It is almost impossible to even make a B on the tests which are weekly. I spend around 10 hours a week reading and still can't do even ok
I took Professor Gross for Hy 202 online my first semester of college. It was definitely the hardest class I had this semester but if you read the chapters and fully understand them you can make a decent grade. The tests are anywhere from 55-67 questions and theyre due every friday. If youre not into history or studying, I dont recommend.
For her HY202 online class we read one chapter a week and took a test on that chapter at the end of every week. Each chapter was about 40-60 pages. I recommend reading the chapter at the beginning of the week and making potential test questions while youre reading the chapter. Then, study those test questions all week, and take the test on Friday.
I took 14 test, not quizzes, each test was over 50 questions. You have to read every chapter and search chapter is super long. She also honorlocks her test which is something you have to pay for and the record your screen. I do not recommend her what so ever.
Theres lots of reading, so beware of that. Theres a test every Wednesday with over 50 questions. Theres very little extra credit but she does give extra points in the test, because most of them are worth more than 100 points. If youre good at history this is a good class to take online, but if youre not, I would take an in-person class.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR IF YOU WANT TO PASS. UNLESS YOU ARE PREPARED TO SIT DOWN AND READ 80 PAGES OF THE TEXTBOOK EACH WEEK TO PASS A TEST. DO. NOT. TAKE. THIS. PROFFESSOR. SHE IS NOT HELPFUL AT ALL.
Be willing to spend 30 hours a week reading and taking notes. The only assignments are tests that are 55-60 true or false and multiple choice. Each chapter is around 30-70 pages. There are no study guides. One of the hardest classes I've ever taken. If you have text anxiety this is NOT the class for you.
I took Dr. Gross(make sure you address her by Dr. or she will NOT respond to you)for Hy 202 online my first semester of college. It was definitely the hardest class I had this semester. She requires you to read anywhere from 50-80+ pages a week. She does not let you know what will be on the test and focuses on the social concepts instead of dates
She is not helpful; when I asked for help, its not that your not studying and more youre not studying right. Expected to read a chapter, watch videos, read primary source collections which consists of around 8 links with long passages each, and read a powerpoint around 10 or more slides, try and remember it, and then take a big test each week.
Took in my final year and it is set to derail my graduation. The course is read a 30-70 chapter and a 50+? test each week. No clear guidance on what tests cover. Lack of clear guidance or defined learning objectives leaves students to fail with little hope of redemption. I am anticipating round 2 with a better instructor; DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!
She has no right to call herself a professor. She does not do anything. She assigns a book and gives you lesson plan basically of what chapters to read and you test on a chapter every week. 70+ pages of information to retain and tests of around 60 questions. DO NOT TAKE THIS COURSE!!!
Took this teacher for HY 202. Class consists of reading 60+ pages for each chapter every week, and then testing on the material weekly. There is no clear outline of what will be on each test, and simply reading through the material is not enough to pass them. Additionally, don't expect very much communication from this teacher via email.
I took Dr. Gross doing COVID and you would think a teacher would help her students, well I think not. Her test are extra long 50+ questions and they consist of T/F and Multiple choice questions. In order to pass the class you must read each chapter that she gives you in its entirety and if you dont well at least you know your failing that test.
She was awful. Took her during COVID-19 and gave 60 question tests every week. If you didn't read the chapter in its entirety, you were bound to fail. I do NOT recommend.
This teacher is terrible. You have to read a 40-60 page chapter and test every tuesday. She uses honorlock which videos and records you. Her tests are 50-65 questions long and her class is extremely hard. I would not recommend or take her class again.
Worst class I have ever taken. We were expected to read a chapter a week which consisted of 50-70 pages and take a test on it. The questions come exactly from the textbook, but it is impossible to remember that much information from all of the pages you are required to read. If you ask for help, she says to read the chapter so she is no help at all
do not take.
I use to be a A/B student until I took this course. Be prepared to spend almost all of your time reading the textbook and notes. You have a chapter exam each week with anywhere to 50-60 questions. As soon as you are done learning a chapter you have to turn around and study a new one within a week. I wouldnt recommend taking this course.
I took this class online because of COVID and immediately regretted it. Dr. Gross doesnt teach at all for this course so you have to read the 25-50 page chapters multiple times to get a good grade on the weekly exam. The only positive aspect of this class is that the grade canvas shows is much lower than your actual grade. My 71 turned into an 86.
Super hard test each week. insane amount of stuff to study for the test & each test is around 60 questions.
Shes a very difficult professor but also absolutely amazing! Prepare to work your absolute butt off in her class and read a TON. 2 book reviews and 1 major research paper. Stay on top of the readings. Attend the live lectures and do not be afraid to ask her for help. Shes an amazing professor just difficult which makes the class worth it.
don't take the class trust me
Awesome teacher
This class is very easy online, but very test heavy.
A lot of reading and studying but no extra assignments to help bring up your grade from the exams every week
This class is heavily based on the readings. Each week you will read one chapter and then take a test on that specific chapter. The entire class is based solely on the weekly tests, there are no other assignments, projects, or quizzes. Also, just reading the chapter will not guarantee that you pass, you have to be able to distinguish key points.
She does not teach at all. The class is just 15 tests and she does zero teaching for them.
Terrible professor.
Very self-explanatory and straight to the point. No lectures or notes, just 15 exams. She posted 3 exams per week within the 5-week course. Read a chapter for each exam, and you can usually find a quizlet for all 15 exams to help you "study." Each exam has 40 questions and 45 minutes. 10/10 class to take during the summer. Easy and stress-free!
Very straight to the point, just read your chapter and take the chapter exam. She does provide some outside links to extra resource.
Dr. Gross made history easy and enjoyable! I took her class over the summer, and it strictly consisted of 15 exams, but the 15th one you do not have to take if you're happy with your grade. Exams are per-chapter, and most of them you can find on Quizlet to study. I went to PCB in June; she told me working ahead was fine by her. Stress-free course!
