her class is very tough, but she explains things extremely well
The material is difficult but she explains it well.
The best prof! Very friendly and makes material extremely clear!
She's loud and crazy, but you get M&M's and she knows what she's doing!!!
you won't leave class w/o understanding the material or w/o M&M's
If you dont understand ask, she's very good one on one.She made class easy!
she seemed so focused on m&m's that she didn't teach the material thoroughly..
her lectures are confusing, she teaches best to those who already understand.
shes kinda crazy - a good prof but the final was horrid!!
Nice lady, bad prof. Goes through notes too fast, not recommended :(
She's the best. If you can pass mth110, this class is a breeze
Nice..talks way too fast..teaches to smart kids best
quit talking about star wars and soccer! hard tests but knows her stuff
she is a good prof, but you have to be a fast talker to understand her!
I would recommend her. Was overall a pretty easy class
good prof. talks a little fast very willing to help though
No Comments
Stats isn't that hard and she's not that bad to look at
Class was easy, plus nice to look at in the morning
So sexy
Class was really easy. Teacher very organized.
Gets point across to students...Pretty easy exams...Final was a b**** though
fast but she gives you 1/2 of the notes. OK prof.
lots of homework, difficult class, she goes fast but will help you if you ask
She made class fun and was very helpful, don't hesitate to take her class.
She is sooo hot, guys this is a must take!!
Awesome prof! She was so helpful, very organized...anything but boring
No Comments
All I can say is that its a damn shame that she got married, I love her sexy bod
They don't get much hotter, or easier than this
Lots of handouts--don't fall behind!! Great for one-on-one help, always ask
alright class, don't miss though.. a little unclear and weird.. tests suck
easiest class i've had here - she give's you formula sheets for tests
No Comments
Stay VERY alert. She's quick!
I'd take someone else if I could to do it over
She was very helpful. I suck at math but with her help I got an A.
Take stat 216 if you want to spend every waking hour doing homework.
moves fast, kind of flaky, teaches to smart kids but will help if you ask for it
she goes EXTREMELY FAST!!!!!!!! hang on!!
goes kinda fast, good professor, hard tests
teaches fast but gives great notes, pay attention and you'll be fine
Her notes are awesome...do practice problems before quizzes.
not sexy at all, talks too fast, needs to slow with the caffeine
puts all notes on BB, very nice, very clear, very helpful . . .
Makes A LOT of mistakes. Gives incorrect formulas on tests.
excellent prof., moves fast but is very fair. doesn't try to trick you on tests
her voice is like a drill boring through my brain
sorta fast, easy, quizes every week straight from take home handout
easy class, not even real math. will help if you need it.
Great teacher, easy tests and quizzes...if you have to take this class get this prof.
Enjoyed the class. Her voice can get to you. If you do the homework, you will do ok. Final was insane, but she did curve the grade to make up for it. Hottest guy in the world was in that class with me; that made it even nicer! ;)
Great Prof. Very clear and eager to help you. Tests are easy and so are the quizes if you do the handouts. If you take this class get this prof!
No complaints. She explains things pretty well. Do the homework and you'll do fine on the tests and quizzes
great teacher. very organized and does her best to make sure students get good grades. she gives alot of easy points out. if you put a little work into her class its an easy A
Easy class and helpful teacher. Moves kinda fast but you have plenty of time to pick it up. Grading is spelled out and if you do the homework you can use them on the quizzes.

This woman is not the brightest crayon in the box. Stay away from her if you care about your time, or (heaven forbid) you actually want to learn something. However, this is probably one of the easiest A's possible. If you can plug numbers into a formula you already have a B, now all you have to do is suffer through her lectures.
Good professor, homework every week, quizzes every week but they are really easy, tests are easy, the final was hard and long. The lab part of the class is a joke.
Good professor... lots of homework and quizes but they are easy and help your grade a lot. Tests arn't too bad and the lab is just easy points.
Easy professor. Gives formula sheets to use on tests to make studying much easier. She drops low quiz and lab scores to help your grade.
She's pretty cool, especially since she loves to talk, so she is usually chipper even when she has a migraine. Sometimes she gets headaches so bad she gives everyone an A on the homework. Everything is pretty much self explanatory. I had her for a night class, and despite the 3-hourness, it wasn't too bad, considering I never liked Stats anyhow.
wow i wish i could get paid to copy my lectures from a piece of paper to the board and then just read word for word from the piece of paper.. this prof is absolutely horrible.. she does not help you at all.. she talks to fast and does no inclass examples.. do not take this teacher if you want to learn anything.
Made stats easy. Can keep track of your own grade. Types homework problems and spaces to do it in. She types your notes ahead of time and you go to class to "fill in the blanks", kind of. My only complaint & the only part I had problems with were the Tests. They're pretty hard, "tricky", mostly. I suggest seriously studying for them. Nice lady tho
Great teacher! She really made stats easy to understand. Extremely helpful both inside the classroom and out. Very willing to cater to students needs. The two weeks of snowdays made the first test a bit difficult, but if you go to class and do the homework its an easy A.
Pretty easy class, although she wouldn't directly take attendance she knew if you were there or not by collecting work. She gives cookies and other treats for different data collections
I took a night class which might be the way to go for this class. Prof. Hower does a great job explaining statistics as well as what will be tested. Fairly easy class if you do the homework. Labs that my little sister could do make up a big chunk of the grade. Tests are easy to study for and not too challenging. Take prof. Hower for STA 215.
She is pretty awesome. She is a good teacher in general. She has outlines of her notes posted on BB so you don't have to write EVERYTHING down. She goes at a quick pace, but it keeps you awake. No surprises on the tests. Easy if you understand and look over your notes beforehand. Cool sense of humor as well.
Verrrry easy class. She gives you everything you need. Take her I heard other stats teachers are ridiculous. Good teacher.
You hear the horror stories about stats but she is probably the best one to take!! Everything is posted way before hand so those organized people can get everything within the first few days. Quizzes are your homework questions (with the help of your homework!). For tests, she gives little sheets with all the formulas... take her!!!
I took this class one day a week for three hours and I would recommend it. The class rarely goes for more than two hours. She has fun in class activities for extra points, she gives you formula sheets for tests, and she lets you use homework on quizzes. Her lab instructions are very easy to follow. This was a fun and easy class! Take this professor
I really liked this class. Professor Hower makes learning Stats a lot of fun. You use your home work for quizes and she gives you a sheet with the formulas on it for tests. I recommend her, especially for those who are not math majors. She is a good teacher.
Good teacher, funny and makes class go by. Gives formula sheets for tests. Requires you to know everything, but is fair and reasonable.
I was dreading this class, as it was my 2nd time taking the course. She explains the material in a way that is easy to understand, tells you exactly what will be on her tests, and gives formula sheets. Labs and "quizzes" boost grades in her class a LOT. Homework assignments are the quizzes, so DO YOUR HW! I recommend her.
DO YOUR HOMEWORK. quizzes are pretty much every week and are copied straight from the homework she assigns. Quizzes are awesome grade boosters. Great prof, I'd recommend her to anyone, even if you aren't interested in the course.
Do the homework, go to class, make friends with her. She is a super energetic person with a great heart. Decently easy class with respectable tests. Highly recommend her as a professor.
Best stats teacher available! Take her!! Easy class, do the homework because she lets you copy from it on quizzes. Tests are easy. And she tells funny stories all the time that take up 20 minutes of class.
She is a really good professor. She posts the outlines to the in-class notes on BB. Weekly quizzes are the exact problems from the homework and she will let you use the HW on the quizzes, so do the homework! Labs are super easy. Gives formula sheets for every exam. Attendance isn't mandatory but you should go to get the notes. Overall, good prof!
This class is easy which is good. She lets you use your homework on the quizzes which are questions from the homework itself so if you do the homework ahead of time, you've basically already taken the quiz. Only downfall is she talks too much about things that have nothing to do with the class which can be annoying and boring.
Who knew that teaching something as foreign as statistics could be so enjoyable? Her teaching style is direct and simple, her examples are engaging, and her rules are fairly relaxed. If you show up, take notes, and turn your labs in, you will pass. I wish she taught all of my other classes (I'm a BMS major) because she is absolutely wonderful!
She is soooooooo unorganized. I can honestly say I don't think I learned a thing. The lectures last a maximum of twenty minutes. There is no homework, only quizzes and tests. I'm not convinced she has a clue what she is talking about, ever, except for when she is talking about herself. She's super nice and funny, but I would not recommend her.
Extremely unorganized. One quiz a week where you can use your homework on. Quizzes should be easy A's. Exams aren't too tough either. Class isn't very hard, just kinda boring and unorganized.
Hower is interesting. She's a fantastic, nice, funny woman. She always keeps it light and likes to joke around. Stats can be hard. However makes it pretty easy. While she may be on the unorganized side, she explains things well. You have a few days to do the homework and then you just copy your homework answers onto the quiz. Tests are pretty easy.
Take her for stats!! She made the class enjoyable and was always cracking jokes to ease the mood. She makes all her expectations for quizzes and tests crystal clear. As long as you do the homework and pay attention in class, you will definitely get an A.
Professor Hower was one of the best professors i've ever taken. I hate math but she made statistics fun and relatable. she's a fun professor but also knows what shes talking about.
Jennifer Hower really appreciates that students do in fact have other classes going on. She does give homework a lot, but none of it is mandatory. She does give quizzes about once a week though. The quizzes consist of the exact same problems as the homework, so if you did that, you are allowed to use the homework on the quizzes.
Prof Hower was so nice, but she was very unorganized! This did not affect my grade whatsoever, though. She cares about you succeeding, tests are easy, homework optional but can be used on all quizzes (quizzes are HW questions rewritten). One project that was NOT hard at all! TAKE HER! I HATE math and she made the class easy and interesting!
She is a very nice lady, but her teaching skills are average. She often showed up late which really threw me off and the class seemed pretty pointless. The class itself was not bad, but it could have been a lot better. Overall, I did not gain much from taking it.
She is a very nice lady, but her teaching skills are average. She often showed up late which really through me off and the class seemed pretty pointless. The class itself was not bad, but it could have been a lot better. Overall, I did not gain much from taking it.
Professor Hower is one of the best professors I have had so far at Grand Valley. She truly cares about how her students do. I am terrible at math but she explained everything really well during class and always clarified if students had questions. I would take her again if I ever had to take another statistics class
Professor Hower gives you outlines for every chapter she covers. You can use your homework on the quizzes which are literally the exact same as the homework questions. Only three tests total. One project that you can finish within 3 hours. Only downfall is she tends to ramble on about her weird family for the first 10 minutes of every class.
Wonderful Professor, your quizzes are your homework so just make sure you get those done and you have an easy 100% on those. She prints off detailed notes for you so not much is required. Super nice and helpful, and is one who is known to cancel a class or two. Overall great prof, makes class very easy.
Professor Hower was the best prof i've had at grand valley so far. She rambles a bit but she's a really quirky person and wants you to succeed in her class. Quizzes are literally just the homework word for word. 3 tests but you get a formula sheet for each as well as the final. Probably the best stats prof at grand valley.
Professor Hower is by far the nicest professor I have had at GV. She really cares bout her students and wants you to know the material. If you need help, she is always available after class and really wants you to succeed. I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND TAKING HER. SHE IS AWESOME.
I would highly recommend Professor Hower. She is a very clear and helpful professor! Weekly quizzes that can be copied straight from the homework assignments. Three exams plus a final. Fill-in-the-blank notes that you can print from Bb and bring to class, plus she posts TONS of helpful material on Bb. Only downsides: loud talker & likes to ramble.
An average class consists of her talking about her interests for the first 5 minutes and then reading the notes she gives you. It's not so much instruction, but more so her showing you examples and applying it to real life scenarios. It feels like a class to strengthen prior knowledge rather than to learn the basics. Go to the stats center instead.
Prof. Hower was super nice and the class was very simple and straightforward. She did tended talk about her family a lot, but i thought that it was funny. You can use your homework on the quizzes and she takes the question directly off the homework for the quizzes.
Even if you don't like statistics, she makes the class easier and interesting.
Prof Hower made stats very manageable. Posts notes on bb to print off before class. Never tried to trick you on tests, they were very straightforward. We took weekly quizzes but it was straight from the homework. She's a solid pick for stats.
Hower is the most caring and genuine professor that I have ever met at Grand Valley. She truly is one of a kind, you have to get past her stories and all of the side tracks thoughts. Although, even through that, she honestly cares so much, and is willing to help her students no matter what is going on in her personal life, or theirs. Incredible.
A really good choice for STA 215! She tells you what you need to know and how you need to do it. Simple and easy. Definitely worth trying to get into her class!
Professor Hower is a solid choice for STA 215, but she tends to get distracted and go off on tangents a lot during her lectures. The lectures are average, and if you want to absorb the material you'll really have to actively pay attention, or else you'll find yourself teaching yourself from notes a lot. She's very sweet, and cares if you learn.
Take her!! She is the most caring prof Ive ever had. She talks about her personal life but I dont see anything wrong with that since shes so funny. She calmed me down several times when I was stressed and always made sure I understood the material. Tests are straightforward and labs are so easy.
Weekly quizzes, homework, math gym and pre-class assignment is not mandatory but really helps your grade. There were 4 test and 1 final exam. My best advice is to take the practice test seriously and do as many versions as you can. Come to class because of i-clicker quiz questions, which also help your grade. Things i wish i knew before this class.
Professor Hower really knows how to explain stats. She is really bad at replying to emails, sometimes it has taken over 6 days for her to reply. You will do a lot of labs, 3 tests, 1 quiz, 1 project, and a final. She is extremely funny and cares a lot about her students.
By far the easiest and most awesome stats prof. 3 tests 50 points each. Show up to lecture, do the labs, study the night before and do the review, youll get an A. Easier and nicer than any other stats prof at GV. She makes the cheat sheets for you and is absolutely hilarious in class. Put in below average amount of work and you're golden
Prof Hower is decent, however she gets off topic ALOT in class, which was annoying. This class was a very easy A for it being stats though. labs each week that you could complete during class, preprinted notes, and a few tests with cheat sheets for each one. If you studied the night before you would do fine on tests.
I would recommend Professor Hower to students who don't good in math, or think they won't do a good job in Stats. If you do the bare minimum you will pass, and if you push a little harder you can easily get an A. My only complaint is when we switched to remote learning, she was hard to reach. She only responded back to a few of my emails.
This class was pretty easy and straightforward. She gives clear notes with good examples and is willing to help with any confusion. However, prof. Hower got off topic a lot and showed up to class.
Shes is a super awesome person and I feel as though a great in-person professor; however, as someone with ADHD it was very hard being in her online class. She can tend to get off-topic and talk about things not related to class. I am person who is bad at math and found this class to be pretty difficult. I would recommend her for in person not onlin
Professor Hower shares a lot of personal information but I don't see a problem with it. She is very straight forward and the material is easy to follow! If you do the homework and pay attention to lectures you will pass!
I don't know how Professor Hower has such high ratings on here... Just to highlight a few things, she's very unorganized, class gets cancelled a lot, lectures are just her reading off of the screen and not really explaining how to work through the problems, and she gets very off topic for majority of the time during lectures. Would not recommend.
As far as professors go in a math department, Professor Hower is a fair choice when taking stats 215. As other people have said, its an easy A class, provided you review the material she gives out. easy tests, easy labs, lectures can be boring and its easier to look at the lecture notes she provides ahead of time. nice but can get distracted easily
The lecture notes are mostly just definitions of everything and a few examples that weren't very helpful to me. Homework and Labs due before tests, she gives a review sheet and formula sheet for each test but I did not learn any of the material well or understand how and when to use certain equations. Got distracted easily, nice but not the best.
Class is really easy but she is a terrible prof. Cancelled class and moved tests the night before or 10 min before. Extremely unorganized and grades the tests months after taking them. You have no idea of your grade the entire semester. Don't even try emailing, she won't respond.
She is nice. Understands stats. That's about it. The reality is, the lectures are read verbatim off pdfs. She gets easily distracted, no time management. Tests were cancelled the morning of. Grades posted late. No feedback. Notes were prewritten for you. Honestly, I got an A putting only 7-8 hours total into this class. Just disappointed really. :/
Professor Hower is very unorganized and you can tell she takes the lazy way out of things. 3.5 hour lectures were very boring when she reads of the slides and gets distracted easy. You had to buy the book specifically for the exercise questions because for some reason she would not copy them over to save everyone $50.
This professor was unorganized, lazy, and unfair. It was hard to find assignments and labs. She would cancel classes all the time and would never push back exams. She also never answers emails. Don't take this class.
Always late to class, canceled class multiple times and skipped over materials she misses, notes are just click through slides not many examples, gets off topic a lot and will talk about something random. Felt like i had to teach the material to myself.
This professor is very lazy and unorganized. Goes off in tangents often in class, very kind but just not a great teacher really goes through slides with minimal effort or visuals.
This professor is extremely unorganized, consistently shows up late to class, and cancels often. Homework is never posted on time, and she has said on multiple occasions that she will post the review or homework if she doesn't "flake" but "won't make any promises". Not sure how she's even a professor as lecture is just her ranting about her life.
I have mixed feelings shes a good person, but she teaches off of PowerPoint 24/7, rarely gives examples, and goes on off topic tangents for 10-20 minutes at a time. She doesnt actually teach the material, she expects you to automatically know it after grazing over the PowerPoint slides.
To be honest, her class is pretty easy if you review material and are learn to apply it. However, she is super last minute when letting the class know if she's cancelling class (which happens quite a bit) or is moving exams around. She also has a tendency to ramble about random things in both her life and in general.
Most unprofessional professor I've ever had to deal with. Constantly canceling class within half an hour of when the class would start -- one time she canceled five minutes before it started. Nearly unreachable outside of class, rarely responds to emails, lazy grader -- expect assignments to sit ungraded for weeks.
This class was pretty easy all around. Homework assignments were open for the entire semester and you had unlimited attempts. Tests were pretty much exactly like the notes and pretty straightforward. I would recommend going to every class and taking the notes because if you don't it will be very easy to get confused.
Hower takes the cake for worst professor I've ever had. She made a joke about her daughter's overdose in class which disgusted me. Don't even bother emailing her, she won't answer. The class is so incredibly confusing: no examples, she makes mistakes in homework & tests, and literally won't help you. Do NOT take her. I hated every second with her.
It's a push and pull with professor Hower. For not being good at math at ALL, I was still able to get by with a B-. Nearly half the points for the class come from homework/labs which you can attempt as many times as you want. 4 total exams which is a lot, but with so many points coming from homework and labs it evens out. Overall, she's okay
Professor Hower is a great choice for STA 215. She's hard to reach through email so it's best to go to class and ask questions there. If you ask for extra help she is always willing to meet with you for as long as you need, one on one. She was extremely helpful with working through homework problems with me which is great.
Jennifer Hower is the best stats professor you could take. She makes the material so easy to learn and allows for absolutely zero stress. As long as you do the homework, you will pass easily! Take this professor if you are looking for an easy stats class.
Will not respect your class time. She will show up late and horrible explanations
This class was a disaster. She was late to almost every class and cancelled class several times. She teaches off of a powerpoint and you don't do any practice problems or anything, you just listen to her talk the whole class. I ended up teaching myself most of the material because the book had examples and problems to work off of. Don't take her.
Professor Hower is the definition of a hot mess! She was 10-20 minutes late every single day. She canceled classes 10 minutes before we were supposed to have class. She does not teach you anything! She reads directly from her slides and does not do any examples. She rambles about her home life and makes so many excuses!
Professor Hower has a unique teaching style that takes some getting used to. While she can be disorganized at times, the course is manageable if you stay on top of the material. unstuck AI and the textbook were helpful for study prep.
Constantly was stressed out during this course and I am pretty sure I learned nothing. Some how passed though so grateful for the professor getting me through!
