Really great lady, very smart and funny
hard marker and the notes given were disorganized and incomplete
Very pleasant and well spoken. A bit hard on assignments, but hey.
Learn alot with her. Her notes are very important. Nice lady.
fair marker...learned a lot in her class
lots of note-taking, all essay writing, interesting course/prof
she was ok, not too personal prof,
Excellent Prof, knows her stuff, take good notes
LOTS OF NOTES TAKING, BUT OVERALL IT'S A GREAT COURSE, LEARN A LOT FROM HER.
disorganized lectures, seems opposed to technology but teaches about it, her way or the high way, dont argue with her
great prof all you really need is to attend the lectures if not justread the books. GREAT course veryeasy. i got an A
Great prof
interesting course. take good notes since her tests are mostly based on the notes. if looking for an easy liberal, take this one.
She is not interested in the class at all. She asks for people to answer questions, but then shuts them down if it's not the exact answer she's looking for. Her lectures are not well structured. Also complains too much about the liberal government!!
Her lecture method is unorganized. Needs to throw out the chalk and marker and discover power point. The board is full of arrows here, there and everywhere. This makes you pay attention b/c you wanna keep up with her, but it gets really tiring after 2 hrs
That's because the Liberal government is TERRIBLE. Professor Hubbard, while initially seeming to be unorganized, really knows how to teach HISTORY. She is a history Prof.. that's what she does. Her way or the highway? History only happened one way!!
Not organized. Very hard to understand material when the Prof. is not organized.
Thought she was great, very enthusiastic about the material. She's a fair marker too. Course invloves a lot of note taking but if you do it and keep up with the reading you'll do fine. Overall, a pretty good prof. I had never taken a history class in my life and I did alright.
She is a really nice lady. Take really good notes because she gives off alot of information. There's alot of reading and a bit of work. Overall it was interesting, but if you're an engineer, don't take this course. Can't juggle it with your schedule. This is the 1st and last HST course I ever take.
Very religious. Do not pick the Darwin vs Creationism essay topic, you will get slammed if you argue Darwin.
Very dissorganized and was all over the place. She's a really nice lady but she is very confusing and the class is bored to tears.
Very VERY nice person. But very disorganized as well. Often forgets to mention important information in class and when she does, she claims it's really important and that we should know it like the backs of our hands. (Why would she forget in the first place, then?)
VERY dissorganized, she's constantly remembering something she forgot to mention -makes it hard to take good notes. She's not terrible at teaching history - don't bring up RELIGION -- unless you're ready to agree with her beliefs. She's VERY difficult to approach and talk to as well.
Hubbard comes off as disorganized, but she's well prepared, and knows exactly what she wants to cover. Having taken history courses before, I adjusted well to the chalk-board method of teaching (most HST profs are "old fashioned"). Enthusiastic about the material and effective overall.
A lot of ppl whined about her conventional teaching method (writing on the board) well suck it up you incompetent idiots! I actually applaud her teaching style, it had this 'old school' feel to it, combined with her thorough knowledge of the material made for some very interesting lectures.
Great class, very entertaining it was like going to a theater version of the history channel the only draw back was you had to remember it all.
This prof was great! She knows her stuff and you can really learn a lot if you pay attention. Her exams are easy and fair, and the workload is easy for an elective, not too much reading and you only have to go to seminars every other week.
Hubbard comes across as a little aloof but she is very smart and extremly helpful if you go see her. Exams were hard but the essay was terrible. No direction given at all.
She's a really god prof and you can learn alot from her. A bit of a hard marker tho. Expect to go down after ur exams.
she was a great professor. uses blackboard not overheads or powerpoint so she's very prepared for class discussions and goes through the work with the class as she writes it. awesome lady. i saw her at a store once and she recognized me by name. she wants students to succeed and be happy.
she give very approachable and gives extensions on essays
This is an upper level liberal, being an engineering student I felt it was designed for us. Hubbard is one of the greatest prof.I ever had in my ENG career for non ENG course at Ryerson.I had never taken any history courses ever in my life and I learnt sooo much in this class that I felt I was ignorant before. She's tough marker on both exam & essay.
she is unbelievable! Best class in all of univerity. I absolutely loved her!!
Dr. Hubbard is an absolute joy in lecture hall, where her enthusiasm is infectious and her wisdom immediately appreciable. The degree to which she provides feedback is a gold standard by which all history professors should abide.
this teacher is good but this is not the class for me.
I didn't like history at all, but she made the subject absolutely great for me! She has absolute enthusiasm for the material and is absolutely helpful, she even gives extensions for essays easily! She is a hard marker and you have to do a lot of reading, but if you attend her classes and keep up it is pretty easy.
Easy enough, good teacher. Doubts evolution and notes say that Dolly the Sheep died because she was a mutant (not the case). So some inaccuracy, but HST701 with her is an easy enough upper liberal. So take her class if you like. Don't express liberal opinions with her IMO.
She goes WAY too fast, so make sure to be a fast note taker or study from the slides. But I liked her on the whole. She's not afraid to challenge the sacred cows of the left wing and I found her rather charming. A lot of people didn't like her but she's a nice prof if you catch her one on one. I'd take a class with her again.
Make sure you use a computer when attending her class - she talks very fast and does not put the notes online until a later date. She is very knowledgeable and willing to answer any questions that one may have about the material! A bit of a rambler, but a fairly nice professor.
Dr. Hubbard is a brilliant professor with so much enthusiasm and knowledge of the HST 701 topics. I am not an engineering or history student, but this course was so interesting and I really enjoyed it! I felt that attending class and completing readings was essential for success in this course, however you can get away with skimming some readings.
Nice lady. Learned a lot from here.
Awesome
I really liked having her as a prof. I wasn't all too interested in the course itself so I was somewhat bored for the first half of the semester but eventually her passion and knowledge made me view the class in a different way. She definitely knows what she's talking about and can answer all your questions. Very wordly, I'd say.
Liked her because she was very lenient about extensions, but lectures were quite boring.
She definitely knows what she's talking about. If you need help with the essay definitely go to her office hours because she will give you good feedback. Also willing to extend due date. Exams weren't exactly hard but lots of writing.
The midterms are seemingly very easy, but she marks them very hard. DO NOT SKIP TUTORIALS. I did very well on tests and essays but missed 2 tutorials and came out with a C. Interesting topics, but it covers a lot and goes very fast. You can't afford to miss class with this one.
She does a good job making her lectures interesting. She is very helpful if you ask for clarification or help.
A lot of content in a short period of time, but if you summarize and cut it down yourself - easy A. Interesting class, and nice teacher :)
Plus side: Her lectures are worth listening to, gives good feedback on assignments, fair marker, and tests are not terribly difficult. Down side: Course outline contains too much useless info, textbook is poorly organized (no index and page numbers are all over the place)
Can be a little boring at times but overall she knows her stuff.
This prof is great. She knows her stuff and is really interesting. She genuinely cares about what she's talking about and you can tell and she tries to lectures good.
Awesome professor. By far my favourite from my first semester. She can be a little disorganized but she is extremely intelligent, very reasonable, interesting, friendly, and funny. Can't say enough good things about HIS106. Definitely would recommend the class if she's teaching it again. She makes good assignments that you'll actually learn from.
A lot of content so you have to make sure you're keeping up. Lectures are a bit boring, but overall a decent prof!
Dr. Hubbard is an incredible professor you would be lucky to have her. She is approachable and considerate. In regards to the class itself some information is wrong but she does welcome corrections. The course is quite lecture heavy and crucial details are not listed in the posted slides so come to class, listen and ask questions if you want.
She is so sweet! Cares about her students and does the best she can to make accommodations when necessary. Her instructions are straightforward and her lectures are interesting! Make sure to participate in the seminar because those are easy A's as long as you do the reading! Overall, great prof.
Loved loved loved her class. Really nice woman who cares about her students. Lectures can be sort of dry, but interesting enough if you care enough to listen. Super lenient with extensions.
One of the best history professors - highly intelligent and enthusiastic. Go to tutorials, write great essays (ask her for help), and study her lecture notes for the exam and you're good with at least an
rude and gives attitude. Hate the way she teaches, she just spits out a bunch of facts. If you know a lot about history then go for it, but if you don't then I don't suggest it
Lenient with extensions. Not a lot of pressure to participate in seminars but of course, recommended for grades
Overall not too bad. She can speed through slides very quickly but posts the slides online. Exams were very straightforward from the lecture notes. Seminars were a pretty easy way to boost your grades as well. Can seem a bit unorganized but she is nice and will help you out if you talk to her during office hours (offers extensions for essays).
Hubbard is a nice enough person and very lenient with extensions. She incorporates humour into her lectures which is nice. But her lectures are very dry and very boring. This was easily my least favourite class. An intro course to history, yet she expects prior knowledge. Unless you're very passionate about history, I wouldn't reccomend this course
This is the second class Ive taken with Hubbard the first being HIS106 and she's awesome. My top 3 professors in the history department. Her lectures are made in a way which literally makes you succeed. She is also very caring and is open for extensions or to help as long as you make an effort to communicate with her during office hours or email.
If you are a history nerd, you are gonna love this class. Other than that, stay away.
Dr. Hubbard is a good prof. She really cares about her students' success. It is strongly recommended that when studying for her class to only use notes presented in her lectures, and not much from the internet or other sources.
Her views are outdated--like attending a lecture held during the 1970s. Naive about topics outside her field, which is basically everything outside of fisheries. Try and stop her from rambling about politics, philosophy, art, science, etc. It's painful to watch. If you don't care about academic integrity, then just suck it up and you'll pass.
Dr. Hubbard is a great professor, even as the course switched to the online format. She was helpful during office hours and is highly accommodating given that you communicate in advance. If you are genuinely interested in history, I would recommend this course.
Professor Hubbard is a good and understanding prof, but the ta in the course marked extremely hard. If you have background knowledge on history Id recommend the course, but if you dont Id say choose something else.
Get ready to read 100 pages and go to a Seminar reading every 2 weeks and discuss it. She's also nitpicky about grammar, sentence structure, and basically anything a wanna-be English professor would be picky about. Midterm - 10 different points for 3 technologies, and expects 30 minutes to write an essay about a topic, enjoy that.
Prof Hubbard's generally a bit of a legend. Her lectures are informative and interesting and her teaching method makes it easy to remember and understand concepts. She has a way of linking events and ideas through a kind of storytelling that is super engaging and makes it way easier to revise for exams.
You can tell that prof Hubbard really cares about what she is lecturing on. She developed the course herself so she is quite knowledgeable on the topics. Does not mark harshly and is very accommodating when it comes to due dates (she will give you an extension if you ask for one).
Jennifer is a quirky lady. She is very passionate about what she is talking about as she made the course herself. Quite funny and keeps things interesting.
Queen who stands up for freedom in the face of tyranny. FJT
She is the best. I slept through a final exam and she let me retake it. I would never have let myself retake that exam. She's the hero we deserved, but didn't know we needed. So much love for that kind soul. I would not have finished school if not for Jenny Hubbard.
She was so kind and understanding when it came to anything. An interesting human who was always interested in any bit of extra dialogue. She was conservative minded but a neo-liberal in a sense, as she opposes progressive censorship but at the same time is very soft spoken. I hope her a long and happy life.
Professor Hubbard is a unique professor & it was refreshing taking HIS106 (which she designed herself). Lectures were engaging & she has strong convictions and isn't afraid to go against commonly held beliefs. Marks fairly & is forgiving. One weird thing was when she compared Trudeau to Stalin once, pushing the "evil green globalist" trope.
The lectures are very dense, and I think that political views are unnecessary since this is a history class. Don't take this class if you aren't very interested in history, or have no prior knowledge. Also, bring a laptop to class because she speaks very fast.
Prof. Hubbard is super knowledgable, but do not take the course if you aren't at least pretty interested in history, or have some backround knowledge. Extensions are given if you have a decent reason, and she tells the occasional good joke. She speaks SO fast, you will get 60% typed out before she moves on, slides are available however.
She is lovely and well respected. She knows her stuff! VERY seminar heavy, expect to read entire books for seminars. LECTURE HEAVY! She will go through lectures rly fast so either take notes after class or expect to type til your fingers cramp. She truly has passion for history tech and will help any student in need. Little intimidating tho
Professor Hubbard's class are very reading heavy. The main problem is during tutorials, she gives too much air time for the same person to speak, leaving not much content available for the remaining students. She also has a questionable marking scheme for tutorials.
do NOT take his106. all i gotta say :)
She talks so fast and goes through so much material at once and none of it correlates to her exams.
Dr. Hubbard has to be my favourite prof at TMU! Her lectures were always interesting and I found her fairly dry humour hilarious! At first she may seem a little distant or cold, but once you get to know her she's amazing. I highly suggest that you go to her office hours and get to know her better! Truly a lovely person and an amazing prof!
could be controversial in some of her views, however, she is caring and understanding and most importantly she's a great professor.
She takes joy in punishing people. She keeps your marks hostage until you beg to have an appointment with her so she gets the sense of being in charge. If you write more than asked in your exam paper or on your essay, she deducts marks. Her default belief is you have cheated in all your work until every sentence is proven otherwise. Traumatizing.
covers an overwhelming amount of material very quickly (i had 125 pgs of lecture notes) and went through slides super fast and barely posted them after the midterm. grades weren't posted on D2L and essay grading was unclear and pretty harsh. also arrived over an hour late to the exam without communicating with us
