Great proff. ;Is clear, interesting, funny. take a course with her

Fantastic person. I enjoyed her humour and presence. Wonderful prof!
AMAZING PROF!!!!Definitly the greatest one so far in my university career. She teaches a fairly boring subject, but makes it so exciting and motivates you to learn. Her speech on the last day of class made me cry! I plan on taking another course with her
no way someone can be THAT enthusiastic. In a class of 400, we all meant that much to her? Very fake...
She's an amazing professor! Class didn't feel like there were 300 people in it. Makes an effort to get to know students and get involved. You won't realize what a great prof she is, until you don't have her. She's AWESOME!!!!!!
Great!
Disappointing class. Not sure why it's required, as it's essentially just a watered down version of what we learned in second year. And...I don't get why everyone loves this professor. This course would have been a million times better if Dr. J had taught it.
While I agree Jen's very enthusiastic and personable in class, she isn't so accessible for extras like letters of reference (if you need one ask very very early). She also didn't respond to some of my e-mails about things outside the coursework. I'd have to say she's a bit two-faced
sweet
I think Jenn did an awesome job with this course. I was always interested in her stories and she made this rather boring subject fun (and seem like a shorter class) by taking breaks to tell us funny tid-bits. Clearly it is difficult to care DEEPLY about that many ppl, but I do believe that she cares for us as a group in general, and that matters!
J.Irwin did make the material a little more interesting with her stories.
Ejoyable in class but exams were on the tougher side of "fair." Loves the multiple multiples q's waaaaaaay too much. Very personable in-class but almost complete opposite on a one-on-one basis.
this women is a ****!...she is so fake.. she also very annoying in exams..while ur writing the women will come in the middle of the exam an say things lik dont worry class your gnna do amazing this is soo easy cmon showw off too me, every question is a multiple multipile she takes the easiest most useless cource and tries to make it difficult!
The course was ok, the material wasn't really exciting, she was enthusiastic though. She is VERY hard to get a hold of outside of class and not too helpful when you DO get a hold of her. The final exam was pretty tough.
She is an amazing prof. Whenever we were feeling stressed, she always gave us tips to reduce it for the benefit of our own health. She takes into consideration that we have a life besides school. She is extremely clear in her explanations. Well done!! I think anyone will be extremely lucky to have her as a prof.
the boring nature of this class makes it hard to do well. The info is so boring/ mundane that reading over notes is tedious. Makes HS 1000 look exciting. Life-coaching is a drag.
She is by far the best prof I have had in University.
great enthusiasm, good looking :)
She is a good Prof, the material for this class is dry but she makes it exciting. Don't mind going to class at all.
even tho the material is very dry shes a funny prof!! I like her stories and examples. That being said the course it self is boring and has a lot of readings and her final exam is the hardest thing ever hated it!! she had way to many multiple multiples and I studied a lot of this class and did all the readings and only ended up with a 70 :(
Dr. Irwin displays a great deal of enthusiasm,a positive attitude and kindness that reaches every student when teaching over 200 people. The course material is rather boring and the textbook is even drier. Irwin does a great job using personal stories and her great sense of humor to make lectures fun. I always looked forward to going to her class!
The BEST prof I have ever had in university. This class is not the most interesting, but Dr. Irwin is so personable and GOOD at what she does that you want to go to class. Uses great, funny stories to explain dull points in class. Really cares about the welfare of her students.
HATED the material. She tries to make it as interesting as possible. Textbook and lectures notes are imp!
Jen is without a doubt one of the most passionate professors at Western. Some people complained about the material being dull, but her energy and amazing stories made it a very interesting class. The textbook is a little dry, but its mostly based off topics discussed in class. Best prof I've ever had and will definitely take another class of hers.
I enjoyed having this prof in 2nd year. Absolutely hate going to this class. Prof is two-faced and very fake. Says everyone deserves an 'A' yet highest mark was 77 on the first assignment. Refers to 'how to get an A guide' but clearly 77 is not an A... Asks students for feedback but refuses to listen and sends a webct message stating she's correct.
Irwin is an amazing prof! Health promo isn't an easy course because studying for it can be super boring, but she tries to make lectures as interesting as possible. Her exams are pretty fair, make sure to read the textbook though because a lot of questions come straight from there!
Amazing lectures that make a dull topic very interesting. Exam is very straightforward.
Although Dr.Irwin is a great pro who teaches with a unique touch, the textbook and the exams (not to mention the material) are awful. She likes the trick you on the exams and the material is very business and psychology based, something that is not enjoyable (at least to me). If this class wasn't mandatory, I would not, to save my life, be enrolled
Irwin has an understanding of her students beyond what they need to take away from the course. She's not afraid to stop class early if students seem tired/ stressed. Take her optional quizzes, they're a good way to learn her exam style. For the text don't focus on memorizing lists too much - its more about definitions and general understanding.
Most questions come from her research on motivational coaching which she made up. It's not population-based and very ineffective cost-wise. It's behavioural psychology that she copied and coined her own term. Exam questions are NOT fair. Claims to care and makes a story the day of prof ratings. VERY two-faced and does NOT care-DONT BE FOOLED!
One of the hardest courses I have ever taken at University. Even calculus was easier. Her exams are death trap; they are application based, so you pretty much have to use the information you learned to solve the question. For a second year mandatory course, it requires 70% of your overall study time.
Amazing lectures, readings are very tough and dull. She makes a very dry subject very interesting.
Dr. Irwin is seriously one of the most genuine professors. Her passion for what she teaches is incredibly inspirational and even though I'm honestly not that interested in the field of health promotion, she made the class very enjoyable. It's very apparent that she cares about her students and her kindness is incomparable. Thank you, Dr. Irwin!!!
Amazing professor and lecturer! Jenn Irwin is hilarious and really cares for the well being of her students. Her tests are tricky and it is essential that you complete all readings assigned.
This class was my life.
Dr Irwin is a great prof. Tells great stories and really connects with students, despite a huge class size. She really tries to educate students not only on health promotion, but school and life in general. Amazing and inspiring prof. Would love to take more of her classes.
Nice lectures to be in but one of the most disorganized courses I have taken in my life and that is the reason I would avoid anything with her.
Super good prof but really tough exams!! Lots of reading to do, which are extremely dry
One of my favourite classes. Absolute best prof. She is hilarious, clear and passionate about her topic. The material seems dry but she makes it very interesting and easy to understand and remember. Textbook is super important and attendance is as well!!
You will never know what does the word hard mean before you take 2250.
She will seem inspirational at first but does not allow you to ask questions outside of class! Honestly she is very fake and her tests are total garbage like her! She makes you do lot's of readings which I did, but does not test them well. She does whatever she feels like!
Although Dr. Irwin is a great prof, 2250 was probably one of the HARDEST/BORING courses I have taken here at western. The readings are never ending and the material is super dry. As a lecturer she's great, always telling stories to make concepts stick, but she's an extremely hard marker and her tests just don't make sense. Avoid if you can.
Literally the most boring class I have ever taken and it's 100% because of the teacher. If there's a teacher out there that makes you not want to learn, this is her. I have nothing good to say about her, her way of teaching, or her respect for students.
Out of all my classes here at Western, this is by far the worst one. Just a super boring class and in no way has the prof tried to make it any better. She's a tough grader and found her tests to be a struggle as they didn't even really make sense. She is not helpful or available outside of class, nor does she really give you the time of day.
This class would be much more interesting if it was a different prof teaching it. She is dry and honestly just straight up rude. I'm glad I only have one class with her, I would hate to have to deal with her anymore than that.
Prof Irwin was one of my favourite undergrad profs. She is insanely caring and wants the best for her students. On numerous occasions when emailed she responded quickly and answered all my questions fully. She tries to make a otherwise boring class fun by adding activities and videos. She's amazing and shouldn't discredit her bc the course is hard
Brutal and dry. Wouldn't recommend. Class might be better and more interesting if it was taught by a different prof. I find her rude and shows up because it's her job, not welcoming or accessible outside of the classroom.
Dr. Irwin is an amazing professor and really tries to make her class interesting and interactive. She knows her stuff. But Health Promo material is just very boring. At the start she said imagine eating two saltine crackers at once, your textbook is dryer then that. .... Exams memorize your textbook and application. It's hard
Class is boring for sure, definitely hard to stay focused and interested. Prof Irwin doesn't help that at all. Would be easier if she made things a little more interesting. Tried to contact her outside of class and wasn't given the time of day. Class sucks and prof sucks!
Dr. Irwin has fill-in the blank lecture slides which are amazing for taking notes. She cares about students' well-being and understanding of course content, and is very funny and inspiring with the stories she shares. The textbook is a little dry but you can learn a lot from it. Do the readings because her exams have a lot of textbook content!
Dr. Irwin initially pretends to care about students, but as the semester progresses you can truly see that she does not care at all. Her lecture slides had very little detail and her lectures weren't completely informative so you were left to learn from a textbook. The only way to do well is to memorize that textbook word for word.
Super sweet prof! She cares about students and about our education. She has a live forum and lectures are also available online which are useful. Fill in the blank slides. She has admitted that the content is super dry but tries to make it fun! Don't wait till last minute to read textbook because you will be screwed. Need to understand models.
Overall Irwin was a great professor! There is a lot of reading and information to learn, but she makes health promotion VERY relatable! She'll also take away unfair questions and is always available for extra support. Get ready to read - the textbook is very dense with many lists of things you need to know in detail.
Dr. Irwin is a very fun prof who is able to make boring health promotion material relatively interesting. She is extremely passionate about this topic and is very knowledgable. This course is material heavy, with very long and dry readings. Exams are fair so if you stay on top of these readings and go to class you will do well.
Dr. Irwin is a great prof, she cares about her students and makes lectures interesting with personal stories. She is an inspiring person and is passionate about her area of study. Her test is on the harder side but I wouldn't say unfair. She does use the textbook, has a backbone to her course. But overall a wonderful professor :)
Dr. Irwin is the best prof I've ever had! She was so kind and inspirational. She live streamed all of her lectures but I still always attended in person, just because it was such a great experience. The material was harder than average, and textbook readings are long but a must-do. Overall she was funny, knowledgeable, kind, and just the best prof!
This professor had engaging lectures and gave great examples making the lectures fun. I found that the exams were very tricky worded, but gave options to students if they wanted to write quizzes or have the weight transferred to exams which was nice.
Your grade is weighted heavily on a group project (around 70%). However, each week she gives you time in class to do group work so you don't need to meet on your own time. The course applies what you learn in 2250 to make your own health promo program. She outlines what you need to do for each project to do well. Very little reading. Overall easy!
This is an amazing professor. Her lectures are so clear and easy to follow. You can clearly tell that she loves what she is doing.
This is an absolutely amazing professor. She explains concepts so clearly in her lectures. Her exams are also very fair and not difficult at all as long as you do all of the assigned homework and lectures.
Irwin is an amazing professor who is very passionate about the course. She explains concepts clearly and her tests are very fair given that you study the material well.
Prof Irwin is one of my favourite profs this semester! 2250A is definitely a dry course and the content can be boring at times. However, she makes her lectures enjoyable and her exams are very fair. As long as you read the chapters and take well notes you can do well in this course!!
Professor Irwin is very caring and empathetic towards her students. Readings are dry, but she is a great lecturer. Take good notes of the textbook and you will do well. Tests are fair.
Amazing professor and cares so much about her students. However, there are a LOT of readings in this course and they are tested thoroughly along with the lectures.
Great prof who really cares about her students. I really enjoyed her lectures they were very clear. I have nothing negative to say about this prof.
If you don't require Health Promo with Irwin, do not take it. It's very boring & dry in course content. Irwin is a very kind professor, who tries her best to make the course engaging. However, the text was just not the tea. As well, her first midterm was the easiest I have ever written, and her last two were traumatizing. So, yeah.
Prof Irwin is so sweet and you can tell that she really cares about her students. She was always sending encouraging messages to our emails and was SO accessible if you had questions about the content. I would definitely NOT say the content is easy, but a good grade is possible if your put in the work.
Professor Irwin is such a good teacher!! Even though I didn't love the Health Promotion course, she still managed to make the lectures interesting and enjoyable. She sends out the sweetest emails and replies really quick, I can tell that she actually cares a lot about us and wants to help!
As nice and understanding the prof is there is little lecture and reading overlap. The reading are very dry and long and test material is heavy on reading. Unless it is an mandatory class I do not recommend it.
the health promo course itself is rlly boring but dr. irwin is amazing. although the content is dry, dr. irwin really tries her best to make it interesting. this isn't a course heavy course but it also isn't a course you can ignore until a couple of days before the midterm or final. the exams themselves were very very very fair. thanku irwin!
The final was so whack. 90 questions for 2 hours covering everything. New material was worth 55% and past material covered by the midterm was 45%. Be mindful that if you don't do well on the past midterms, you're basically because there's no other assessments to boost up your grade unless you miraculously ace the final.
Dr. Irwin is really great and does care, but the course is jam-packed, which makes it very very hard to do well in. I don't advise you to take this course unless you absolutely need to our have a genuine interest in HP. I received just shy of 90%, dedicating my life to this course for the past term.
Dr. Irwin is a very engaging and kind teacher, however this class was honestly painful. Your entire grade is composed of 3 exams, that's it. Content is insanely heavy, & mostly tests readings. Also protor track shut down in the middle of my final, now I have to write the makeup exam the first friday back from the holidays :( Irwin is very kind tho
Her lectures are very entertaining and she's a sweetheart. But the readings are insanely heavy and specific when it comes to exams. Your final grade is based on 3 things- and all are exams. Don't take this course unless you need to.
The slides and lectures don't have ANY form of structure to them. It just seems like she's pulling random, unrelated things together that she read in an article and splicing it into slides. Usually I don't write bad reviews because I can tell that the prof at least tried to deliver the content well, but I really can't say that here.
I don't know where to begin. The content itself is actually very simple, often common sense even. However, because she must also realize this, it's impossible to make an exam as any random person could get 100, so she relies on poorly constructed, wordy questions, mainly based on readings to maintain difficulty. Its also largely pseudoscience lol
I don't know what to say at this point, NEVER take this class unless you need to. She creates questions that rarely pertain to an actual understanding of course content, rather she randomly picks obscure components of the readings to test with. This course repeatedly regurgitates information from 1000 level courses and has little actual application
Course content is interesting + she seems nice, but to do well on her tests you have to remember really specific lines verbatim from the readings. If the first midterm was anything to go off of, she tests on specific phrases from the content instead of general course concepts. This is made worse by the fact that your grade is dependent on 3 exams.
Getting a good grade is like aiming at a dartboard with just 3 darts, each being your limited study time. The bullseye is general knowledge, and numbers 1-20 are topics. You can aim for the bullseye for broad understanding, risking missing key specifics, or aim at specific topics and risk studying the wrong ones. Jennifer is nice but jeez.
All fluff content, but tested as if it were a real science. Obscure textbook passages on exams
Not an understanding prof and is not accommodating or empathetic at all, especially during difficult times when there are issues outside of your control.
Talks so much without really saying anything. The slides are so hard to understand and it doesn't help that she uses random unknown abbreviations wherever she can. Tests on the most unimportant and specific things from readings. Terrible class and professor...
Horrible teacher. She reads off the slides only, like, "Thanks for doing that." I can read myself. She has these abbreviations in her slideshows, which I'm not sure why she uses just the whole word; it's not that hard. Needs to learn how to teach again cuz Im better off just using chatgpt.
Although she may seem nice, she is not great at teaching. She gives a lot of readings and reads of the slides in her lecture while posting YouTube videos in the middle to fill up some time. You need to teach yourself based on the readings, and TAs literally tell you that they will test very specific lines from the readings and YouTube videos.
Do not take this class. Imagine common sense were a class, but that common sense was assigned hyper specific vocabulary/theory names throughout hundreds of (NON-SKIPPABLE) textbook pages. You will work harder than any class and walk away with almost no applicable or new knowledge. Dr Irwin makes no effort to help her students through the class
My first time rating a prof. I am not coming to say she is bad, but if you're reading this, DON'T TAKE THIS COURSE THINKING ITS EASY. She gives crazy amounts of reading and are all testable. So, this will be one of the courses you take keeping in mind that it is DIFFICULT. I was disappointed because there is no value given, speaking academically.
Who assigns work to do the week of the midterm???? Such a terrible professor who tests on unimportant and very specific details from random videos, and it doesn't help that your grade is only composed of two midterms and a final.
Dr. Irwin seems like a kind person. However, the recent midterm threw me off a little. Spent so much time trying to remember steps of different models, names, etc cause she emphasized these being testable. I think there was about 4 questions that really asked ANYTHING about the models (40+pages of reading) . Just a little annoying.
Horrid prof, she just reads from the slides and doesn't add anything new, the course content is actually interesting but the tests are on the most trivial things asking for the exact detail. I would avoid this course like the plague but unfortunately, it is required for most Health sci students
All TED talks and common sense content, tested via random textbook passages. Prof contributed very little to lectures beyond reading off the slides and pressing play on a youtube video
I hope that every sock you put on will be slightly rotated just enough for it to be uncomfortable. May both sides of your pillow be warm.
Lazy prof. Lecture videos are less of her content and majority just TED talks and Youtube videos of other people explaining the content she's supposed to teach us (paying tuition to watch free youtube videos??) Since her lectures are so bad, assessments are EXTREMLEY just textbook questions (very detailed textbook questions). Don't recommend.
Idk who she thinks we are but somehow it's reasonable to give us hundreds of pages of readings and make it ALL testable. the final is 55% and 45% split between new material and old material, so you literally have to memorize every. single. thing. Irwin seems kind but this course is anything but
This course has made second-year Health Sci absolutely traumatizing. Thanks, Dr. Irwin, for somehow creating the worst course I've ever taken, showing zero regard for students' mental health, and assigning readings/lecture materials that are way beyond what's manageable. Students have other classes besides yours!
Simply one of the worst courses I have ever taken. The whole course is weighed on exams only and you're given hundreds of pages of readings expected to have everything memorized. Other than that she's honestly a terrible prof who doesn't know how to teach and just uses Ted Talks and Youtube videos in her lectures.
Overall, Dr. Irwin seems like a nice professor however the health promo course was horrible. The grading component was all exams and the content of the exams was essentially random bits of information from the book. She assigns a crazy amount of reading and makes it really hard to do well on any of the exams.
course content was so heavy, and the break down was midterm 1: 32.5%, midterm 2: 32.5%, and midterm 3: 35%. The exam questions were such unfair tests of knowledge
Dr. Irwin seems nice but this course is a nightmare. It's entirely test-based. Content is straightforward, but with endless readings, she expects us to memorize random, pointless details. Feels more like a trivia contest than a real learning experience. Makes it almost impossible to keep up with other classes and do everything for this one.
She literally only tests from this one textbook that is so ridiculously heavy with content, and she'll test small details from it instead of the main concepts. Her lectures are a pain to watch and she only reads off the slides.
tested so much solely on the stupid textbook and found niche words to test on. terrible experience in her class, don't take if you dont have to
Lectures were incredibly challenging to understand. She would read off slides that were improperly formatted, making it hard to follow. Exams were ridiculous. Tested on very miniscule details from the reading. Don't bother actually learning anything; memorize irrelevant and minuscule details.
I wrote the first midterm and couldnt even belived the questions that we asked. More than 60% were based soley off of readings and videos we watched, and the questions were SO specific. One question had us list certain papers that came out based on earliest to latest by DATE. Do better at creating questions!!! You are not quizzing us properly
Her exams are absolutely ridiculous, hyper-specific, unfair, and completely disconnected from what's taught. She constantly talks about equity, yet her assessments are the opposite: unethical and inequitable. It's frustrating and disheartening that a professor genuinely thinks this is okay. Worst course I have taken in my life, and even worse prof.
Her exams are unbelievably specific, unfair, and barely reflect what's taught. She constantly talks about equity, yet her assessments feel completely inequitable. Honestly, she's a TERRIBLE professor; the topics were already dry, and she somehow made them even more boring. Easily the most frustrating course I've ever taken. Worst professor ever.
I'm just wondering why she reads her slides in lectures word for word, and half the time posts youtube videos to teach the work for her. She posts key ideas in lectures and basically tells us on each slide we are responsible for knowing all the other information to it posted in the textbook. What happened to teaching students the content?
just horrible.
worst prof i have ever had.
Do not know why she is even teaching this course. Health science students deserve better than a prof like her
cannot teach for the life of her. idk why she isnt fired yet
