Tests are very hard, she moves extremley quick, make sure to take good notes...
Jenkins is a great prof! Shes really energetic, and lots of fun. She is really involved with her triplets and other child, and talks about them a lot, and has some great stories. You need to read the chapters. I usually read them after the lecture, but before is probably better. Tests can be hard, but if you study you'll do fine. I recommend her.
I absolutely LOVE Jenkins! She's SO much fun and has the funniest stories about her kids. She's one of the few profs out there who really CARES and WANTS to be in class and wants to see YOU there! Her tests are hard but I dont blame her. It's a lot of material to cover. At any rate, I HIGHLY reccomend Jenkins! Always helpful! Best Prof IMO!
Jenkins is a VERY ENERGETIC WOMAN!!! She is very fun and intense about biology, but she can be a little wrong when you go for office hours...let's just say she told one of my friends and me that we shouldn't worry about the tests...weird. Overall, I enjoyed BIO 120 at my maxim enjoyability.
She is really excited about what she teaches which kept me interested. lecture goes fast, but if you read the chapter before, or print out the outline she posts online its easier to keep up with notes. STUDY!!! she posts study tips and questions so you are prepared. very willing to help, nice lady overall.
She is a great person, but this isn't what matters when rating a professor.I feel like her class is impossible. I have a tutor and and study very hard before all exams and quizzes and still fail. Her tests are very confusing and hard. she expects way to much out of her students. My tutor is a biology major and never had to learn that level of detai
Really enjoyed what she teached but very very hard tests.
She seems to know the material personally but orchestrating it to the students is very fast and rushed.
She was an extremely nice and energenic lady but the class was made almost impossible. I never received better than a C on any test. It was hard to get a passing grade in the class because there was so much material covered at once. She goes very fast in class and the questions on the test can be very confusing. Most of the grade is based on tests.
She is a very nice professor and knows the material very well, but she expects WAY too much out of her students. She moves very quickly and sometimes can be very boring. I wouldn't recommend her to freshmen who aren't used to taking college classes.
She is a very hyper lady and runs around the class the whole day. I guess you have to be hyper when you have triplets and another child like she does though. Her tests are kind of confusing and hard and their is a lot of material. So make sure that you go to class and pay attention and read chapters before hand.
Like everyone else said, this lady has tons of energy. I enjoyed BIO 120, though. Yeah her tests are hard, they expect some detail. I read the chapters and took good notes, it didn't require much else to get a good grade. Best if you know how to take college courses, though.
She moved SO fast, and had TONS of energy. Tests are hard, and require a decent amount of preparation. Read your chapters and show up to classes... you'll miss a lot of you skip even just one.
prof.jenkins is a biology lover but she makes the exams way to hard and there really isnt a curve to speak of. i do not reccomend her ever for any reason unless you want to eat sleep and breathe bio
Jenkins is by far the hardest bio teacher on campus. People in my bio lab felt bad for me because Jenkins was so much harder than all of their teachers. DO NOT TAKE JENKINS!!!!!
Sh is a very hard prof. You must attend classes and she talks so fast that I couldn't comprehend what she was talking about. She switches subjects every minute and she draws pictures of everything on the board. Good luck if you decide to take her!!!
ok, Jenkins wasn't terrible. she talks way to fast in lecture, but she's very passionate about biology! her tests were ridiculously hard. everyone in my lab that had another professor had no idea what we were doing in class. she teaches as if her intro class was a bio masters class. again, not terrible, but take someone else if possible.
She was bad. She was very nice and energetic, but moved way too fast. Almost everything she said went right over my head. I had a tutor re-teach me everything once a week...that's the only reason I didn't fail the class. Don't take her!!!
Professor Jenkins is SO SO sweet! Go to her office hours! She wants to see her students do well and it looks good on the student to put that extra effort in. START STUDYING EARLY! I would recommend retyping your notes daily because her exams are just a bunch of memory work, but I think that is easy. She is very generous with curving and sweet!
I LOVE HER!! She is so funny. She always slips in a joke and talks about her kids and running! She is tough however. She teaches the material well but make sure you study. Not an easy A but worth the entertainment.
I liked jenny, she was very energetic and always ready to help her students.
I really like her. She is clearly very knowledgeable about her subject and could be teaching a much higher level course. She is very helpful and really wants her students to do well. Bio is not my thing, but I felt like she was there if I needed help. I'd recommend her!
Great prof. She is fun and quirky. Her stories of her studies done in grad and undergrad are amusing. trust me, you'll hear alll about the mating rituals of the stickleback fish. if you can, take a class with her. shes great!
She is really really nice, and a great person all in all. She is full of fun energy and is very knowledgeable, way over qualified for her job at GVSU. But, her tests are quite difficult, you have to study a lot, you aren't likely to get an A thats for sure, I struggled with a C-. Really nice, pretty difficult.
tests are ridiculously hard for the material that she teaches, lectures are hard to follow and understand, obnoxiously messy handwriting. do not take her. supposed to be an easier class... she teaches things way too complexly. DO NOT take her.
Is very energetic and excited with the class, but lecture notes are very sloppy and hard to follow. Her test are extremely hard and the reviews only give you an idea and tests are almost impossible to get an A on.
Jenkins is such a nice ladi and she means to do well by her students!! Her tests are just extrememli, extremeli hard and shes not straight forward about what will and will not be on the test..Another thing..she only does 5 quizes so your grades are based on her tests..if u can..take another teacher..shes just hard..
Dr. Jenkins is a great lady and she treats this class as a college level class. A lot of studying is needed, but her class is very do-able. I got an A in the class, and I wouldn't say she is ridculously hard.
Every time I go to her class it's like a blur! I don't remember a thing she says because her goal is to race through the chapters and syllabus regardless of the concerns of our class.
Best science teacher I have had. Usually I struggle with bio but she was very energetic and interesting so it made me want to learn. Very nice lady too. Love the stories she tells about her kids. Willing to help all the time. 3 tests, not hard unless you don't study pretty hard, duh. Take her, she's great.
She was an interesting prof with horrible jokes. The class was only interesting when we were laughing at her. She told us that she can feel her menstruation and we didn't listen much after that...
Jenny Jenkins is a fun spirited teacher. She brings in items such as water noodles to do examples for class. She posts all her notes online so it is easy to get information if you missed class. Her tests are a bit challenging, but do-able if you prepare yourself!
I really liked her, she was super nice and energetic. The tests are really hard though. She expects you to have a lot of interest in biology, which most bio103 students don't have. I would reccomend her, just prepare for a lot of studying if you want a good grade.
She was an awesome prof... extremely helpful. She post her chapters online and goes through and explains them all. Her tests are pretty easy if you take notes and study.
Jennifer is a good teacher, a little too educated to be teaching 103, but I learned a lot. Tests are on the hard side, but definitely not impossible. If you go to class and study, you'll do just fine.
She knew what she was talking about which made the material easy to learn. She was also very nice and also helpful. I would recommend her as a teacher.
Jennie is a good professor but she is a marathon runner so she runs all over the place. She gets excited about the material so she had a tendency to run from board to pp to the computer.
Nice professor. Alot of energy even at 9 am mwf. Tests and quizzes aren't that difficult. She usually curved our test grades. Put a little bit of effort into the class and you should get a decent grade. I suggest doing the practice questions that she posts at the end of most power points and the test review. Do that and your golden.
She's very energetic, and you can tell she likes the topic she teaches. Unfortunately, she's not very good at teaching BIO 121. When asked a question in class, she often does not know the answer and is NOT willing to look anything up and get back to the students. She often laughs it off. How poor is that? She talks too fast and is hard to follow.
Super easy prof. especially for Bio 120. Quizzes are easy and announced ahead of time. Exams can be tricky, but as long as you follow lecture and read the book the class is a breeze. Nice lady. Class average was a 70% but that is easily avoidable if you put your time into the material. I got an A just by studying the night before an exam. Take her.
Great lecture teacher. She's very clear and let's you know what's going to be on the exams. As long as you read over your notes and pay attention in lecture you're golden.
Loved her! Enthusiastic, helpful and writes easy exams. Her power-points go along with the exams and she even makes up study guides. I definitely recommend taking her.
Don't let these people trick you with the 5 on the easy rating. Those people are the few people who sit in their dorm all day and night reading the biology book. And you DO have to make it your life. An A in her class is possible, but realistically stay away from this teacher. She doesn't teach the material you need for tests, just about her kids.
Awesome prof! The class is easy to pay attention in because she is so energetic. What's best about her is that she gives outlines and study guides which unlike most college prof's. Overall great teacher I had never taken a bio class before and I got all A's and B's on the tests (I studid for 4 hours on each one)
Had a rough time with this class even though I am a Bio major. Didn't study as much as I should of, but still did okay in the class. If you put in the time, you should be fine.
She really knows what she is talking about, that much is clear. However, she is not good at teaching it to her students. Hard class, and she moves very fast. I study my ass off just to get a C.
I don't know why anyone would have anything bad to say about this teacher. She knows a lot about what she's teaching and is really enthusiastic! She keeps the class entertaining. Of course you have to study, the tests are rough, but it's not too hard at all to do good in there.
Best teacher I have ever had at Grand Valley. Very knowledgeable, very patient, very clear and organized. Tells you exactly what is on the tests, and tests are all multiple choice.
Awesome Prof. KNows what she is talking about. She has a sense of humor and funny stories. Teaches very well and the exams aren't all that difficult. Highly recommend.
Nice, entertaining, seems kind. Really loves biology. Puts a lot of thought into examples. However, the whole class is powerpoints, which is necessary to cover the huge amount of material she insists on covering, so it's not the best learning environment, especially since it's pretty much all memorization.
All of the place and fast paced but very caring
Great prof. She has a ton of enthusiasm and is more than willing to help. If you study her study guides the tests a breeze. I would recommend her to anyone.
Best teacher I've had so far. She is energetic everyday and always has random funny stories. She loves biology and her enthusiasm for it makes the class enjoyable considering it's in a lecture hall.
She is very knowledgeable and excited when she teaches. However, this class covers a lot of information very fast. I learned a lot but had to work my but off.
Jenkins is full of energy so if you need to stay awake take her. Assignments are pretty easy but tests can be difficult, but this is biology and there is a lot of information to cover. If you know someone who took it before, get their old tests they are great to study off of for her new tests.
She knows what she's talking about but her exams are difficult. Make sure you learn the diagrams and pictures for the exams.
Great professor who you can really tell enjoys teaching the subject and students. Class was a lot of memorization but interesting
class is moderately difficult, when i was going to class i had over 100%, i went to class only a handful of times though the second half of the semester and ended up with a high B only because my lab grade brought me down. had i gone to class an A would have been very easy but there still is a lot of studying
She is crazy and energetic. She is knowledgeable of Biology. Her tests you can study for hours and never be ready. You have to work your butt of to get an A. Don't take this course with a heavy course load. She is a caring prof tho. For an A take someone else.
Very enthusiastic and makes lectures fun and interesting. I would take her over any of the other professors for BIO 121.
Worse teacher I've had so far here at gv. she shouldn't been teaching biology without not knowing the material thoroughly. She acts as if she doesn't know the material well. everyone in class basically sleeps throughout the whole hour. I would NOT recommend if you're planning on maintaining your GPA.
Amazing teacher, she really cares for her students and is willing to help anyone out. If you are at GVSU you should take her.
Excellent prof for motivated students (Bio 120 is not a class where you can expect to slack AND get a satisfactory grade). Jenkins is very knowledgeable, a good teacher, passionate about the subject, energetic, and really funny. She's probably my favorite prof I've had this semester, and I'm disappointed she's not teaching 121 next semester...
Her test are very difficult!! Get a tutor if possible.
She's a great professor! She cares about how her students are doing in her class, go to her for help! This class is hard but you can get through it. She is very friendly and interacts well with her classes. Prof. Jenkins has a huge heart and loves what she teaches. She makes her lectures interesting and cracks quite a few jokes here and there!
She still has the mind of a student. She does not use quizzes but has online homework to be printed of and turned in every friday. Loads of extra credit. Study guides. Very clear speaker. Very approachable. Take bio 120 from her if you can. Attendance is not mandatory but she will give points to those who do show up if a lot are skipping.
I enjoyed taking biology with Jenkins! While the subject was somewhat difficult, she managed to make it okay. We had a homework assignment due (5 points) or a test every Friday. The tests were all multiple choice. If you pay attention and show up to class, you should do fine!
Super energetic and Loves to run everywhere... Cracks the funniest jokes and knows pretty much everything. She's Great!
Jenny Jenkins is the bomb!! She is an awesome professor. She really knows what she's talking about and gives real life examples in her powerpoints which help you to retain the information. You get study guides and there are options for extra credit on almost every assignment. Take her if you can!
Professor Jenkins really knows her stuff! Full of energy and always has funny stories to tell. No quizzes are given but 5 pt assignments are due every Friday which add up and can really help your grade. Tests are MC and a little difficult but it is not impossible to pass this course. Great prof!
Prof. Jenkins is an awesome teacher!! She's super energetic and funny and most importantly knows her stuff really well. Her powerpoint slides make it easy to pinpoint what will be on the tests which are moderately difficult, but she gives reviews that are spot-on so if you do those and study them there really should be no difficulty doing well.
Great teacher, makes learning interesting. She is very energetic. Read the book and come to class and you will do just fine. I would definetly recommend her.
shes good at teaching this course.. but if you dont like to study or work hard i would advise you to choose a different teacher or class. i get all a's and this class was extremely hard and i ended up with a b+ but i put hours of studying in like i started studying a week before the tests. 3 tests and 1 final exam.
One of my favorite professors at GV. Very energentic and hilarious. Made the class interesting. Be sure to study. The assignments due every Friday will help your grade so don't forget about them!
Great class, she uses powerpoint which essentially replaces the textbook. very clear structure, she will go out of her way to make the subject understandable
Best professor i have ever had, you will learn more in this class than any other class at gv. The class is a ton of work, but i got an A. Take it with her, every lecture is amazing to go to, she gets into what she teaches more than any professor i have ever had.
Really, really nice lady! She loves Biology, and wants her students to too. She gets excited about stuff really easily which makes the class a little more interesting. She is super friendly and I would definitely recommend her for BIO 120 because it is a hard class and you want a good prof.
Amazing professor. She will take notice when you are making an effort to get into her office hours and going the extra mile in the class. Her tests are a little challenging, but not impossible. She is a professor I would try to get a class with again.
Excellent professor. She really loves Biology and wants to help her students learn. Her tests are NOT simply memorization. She challenges you by forcing you to apply what you've learned to real situations. I'm taking her again because I enjoyed her class so much. Definitely a professor worth having!!!
Favorite professor I have had at Grand Valley! She made class interesting and explained things so clearly. You can tell she is passionate about teaching and she cares for her students. I learned so much in her class and even like biology more! You wont regret taking her class!
Professor Jenkins is extremely excited to teach you biology. Her attitude makes it much easier to learn all the things she tries to teach you. If you go to class and take notes you should be able to get a pretty good grade.
Great prof, very fair and interesting to listen to. Would definitely recommend the class.
Professor Jenkins is the most animated and excited professor I've ever had. Definitely made me stay awake in class. Fair tests. Show up and study and you can get an A in this class pretty easily. I really slacked off in the second half of the semester and I still got an A- just by going to lectures
She is the nicest, sweetest professor you could ever have. She'll help you with anything garunteed. Class is easy if you take notes and read her power points and occasionally scan over the book. All the questions on the test come DIRECTLY from the power points. Hard to fail!
Professor Jenkins is an excellent professor and knows how to break down complex subjects into understandable material. It's A LOT of information but if you work hard, your grade will show it.
I don't know how she doesn't have a 5 point rating. I think everybody rating her has never had a different BIO 120 professor. So coming from experience, she is the most straightforward, fair professor you can possibly get for this class. She tells you exactly what will be on the test, and they are not hard at all.
She is so fair and clear. Most other professors I have heard things like they go to fast, don't care, and don't get excited. She keeps you excited, motivated, and interested. There are weekly assignments except on test weeks and the assignments are EASY! She offers extra credit and she is super awesome. Very easy to learn from.
Prof JJ is amazing. She is extremely knowledgable in biology and LOVES to show it. She gets excited over many topics over the course of the semester, but she will make sure that you understand the information by the end of the semester. I would recommend her to any student seeking to take a biology class. She will not let you down.
She's excited about this subject and is an amazing teacher. She really cares about her students and wants them to do well. It's a tough subject, one of the most failed-classes at GV and yet she teaches it in a way that is understandable and keeps you interested. She makes you think about Biology and apply it. Take her if you want to learn.
I absolutely LOVED this class and the way she taught. She is excited and passionate about the material and makes clear powerpoints to take notes and study from to make the use of the textbook minimal. You can, however, skip class and use the textbook to stay on track and you'll be learning the same information.
She is an amazing teacher! Really interacts well with the class and keeps us interested. Loved her!
Prof. Jenkins is awesome! She keeps the class moving and interesting. Her Friday assignments are easy and tests are do-able. DO the review questions she gives you and you'll do fine. I wouldn't always show up and finished off with a B+! No assignments from the book, you can go without it, her slides do the job just fine.
One of the best teachers I have had. She presents the information in a very clear way and uses great examples. Read the chapter in advance, go to class, study before tests, get an A. I highly recommend her!
Prof. Jenkins is awesome! She's a passionate lecturer, and attendance is a must--she'll test you on material she's lectured about, and it won't just be found in her PP notes! She keeps your attention, is super sweet and helpful, and wants everyone to be as excited about biology as she is. Do the work she asks for, and you'll get the grade you want.
Professor Jenkins is amazing, I wish every professor was like her. She is so passionate about what she does and that helps so much with her teaching. Is really straight forward in what she expects from her students. I highly recommend printing off the powerpoints and writing notes on top of those (very helpful). Definitely take Biology with her.
Great enthusiastic teacher, and she knows her stuff. She is the best bio teacher out there. ITS A MUST!
Great Professor. She was very helpful and knowledgable. She made the class interesting and fun. It is a harder subject so it takes work. But if you put the effort in you should be fine. She is pretty straight forward. If you put in the time you should be fine.
Dr. Jenkins is a fantastic professor! She is passionate about biology and it makes class interesting. Weekly assignments are required, sometimes she offers extra credit on them but they're not hard at all. Print out the slides, fill them out in class and spend a little bit of time studying and you'll be fine.
TAKE JENNY! She is the best bio 120 prof and her tests are all multiple choice. If you study a little her tests are not hard. She give assignments every week that are extremely easy points. The final is not that bad if you study. I loved her she is so sweet!
Love this prof! So sweet and friendly, very caring and enthusiastic. Very personal with her students, makes you feel very comfortable. If you are a big note taker you will like her powerpoint outlines. Gets quiet sometimes so sit up front.
Very helpful professor. Would recommend her.
With very little biology knowledge, Jenkins made this class enjoyable. I have heard horror stories about other biology profs and I can't say one bad thing about her. She explained the class well and really stressed understanding the concepts and not just the terms.
Shes awesome! so happy and energetic! she makes the class fun and gives random EC which helps your grade. she talks fast but shes the best bio120 prof out there. take her if you can she is amazing! go jenny go
GREAT PROFESSOR. She brings so much energy to class, and is really great at communicating the material in lecture. She is very straightforward about what to expect on the exams.
I love Prof. Jenkins! Try finding one bad review about her. She's so energetic and she really, really wants her students to understand the material. Lecture is actually bearable having her as a professor. Try your hardest to schedule her as your lab instructor as well!
Prof Jenkins is the best prof I've had at GVSU. She has so much energy is really passionate about what she teaches. She explains everything in numerous ways and is always available outside of class. Lecture isn't always the most interesting but she makes it interesting with her sense of humor and outside experience. I HIGHLY recommend taking her!!!
I really liked Prof. Jenkins as a person. She was always willing to explain and clarify things, but her lectures got somewhat dry by the end of the semester. I struggled staying focused through the hour and 15 minute class. 4 exams and assignments each week was very tedious but not too hard.
She explained things very well but was very unhelpful. She was very disrespectful when I went to her office hours (which she has very little of) for help. I do NOT recommend her
She's always really excited about her lessons! She's a good teacher but she sometimes moves too fast.
She is very energetic and always trying to involve the class in what shes talking about. She uses a lot of props to help you get a visual. But the course is tough so you should get a tutor ASAP, the more exposure to the topics the better you will do. She teaches very in depth but her tests are normally the general (bigger picture) idea.
At first I thought that Jenkins was a little weird but you get used to it. She's really energetic about biology and she really tries to make it interesting to us. She's a lovely woman and lectures were very helpful to me. Her tests weren't bad at all. She'll give you study guides and weekly homework. Try not to skip this class.
Great professor! Genuinely cared that her students understood the material
She is very helpful and VERY clear. Easy to talk to. Overall great prof!
Professor Jenkins is excellent! Goes over all the material in depth and keeps you involved every period. Can move fast, so I wouldn't recommend taking her for short periods. The 4 exams and weekly homework can get a bit wearing on you with a busy schedule, however would definitely recommend her. You will learn and contain a lot of information.
Professor Jenkins is wonderful. She is passionate about biology and genuinely cares about her students' success. A lot of homework and EC make for easy points and her exams are fair. She pulls for her students and wants them to succeed. I would definitely take her again. Definitely my favorite science professor I've had so far.
This is honestly a really great teacher, I think she should have more office hours, but honestly if you ever need help and don't understand something, if you go to her office hours, it is great for you. She is very clear and she will make sure you understand things. She's funny and very into her subject. She doesn't make you dread class. Take her!
The best professor I've had at GV, but you do need to take the class seriously. Pay attention and do the homework, tests are hard but you get a lot of study aids and detailed notes. Great at explaining all concepts and always willing to explain and help more. Entertaining class.
Not only is she a wonderful professor, but she is a wonderful person. While I realized shortly into the class Biology was not for me, I would take this class again just to have Prof Jenkins again. She is hands down one of the best professors at GV
Best professor at GV! I would love to take her for all my bio classes. Gives you lots of opportunities to earn more points. If you study for tests well you will do fine. I did not use the book that much at all. Take HER! you will not regret it!
Always offering extra credit to make up for any missed points from either assignments or tests. Such a nice lady and if you study even just a little bit, you will get an easy A in this class!
Prof. Jenkins is a wonderful lady and an awesome professor. She keeps lectures interesting and is good at explaining the material. Her exams are multiple choice but not always super clear on what the question is asking.
Decent prof. I wasn't a big fan of lectures because the blanks in the powerpoints were hardly ever filled in. For me, just reading the chapter was more helpful than lecture. Tests are all multiple choice but tricky. It sounds awesome to have all MC tests but hers aren't clear and can be pretty confusing. She offers lots of EC and there are weekly easy assigments to boost your grade.
Absolutely loved Jenny! Her energy during lecture is amazing. She uses great visuals during class and is extremely helpful. She offers plenty of extra credit. She also posts great reviews for her tests. Do the review and you will do great on the tests. She posts her lecture power points online. TAKE HER CLASS!!!!
From the top. She's a good lecturer, take through notes and study from them, as a lot of the exam is note based, Also buy the book and READ IT! I read every chapter and went to every class and I still got a B+, although I put "A" effort into the class. She's really helpful if you are struggling. Her exams are tough study hard 1 week prior to exam.
Jenny is one of the best profs I've had at Grand Valley. Her lectures are clear and she's really into the material. She's so bubbly and positive. Put in the work and you'll get a good grade. The only negative thing about her is that she doesn't have many office hours. Take her for Bio 120!
Professor Jenkins is great. Very clear in lecture and bases tests off of the lecture notes. Pretty easy class to get an A in if you show up to class and pay attention. Offers extra credit for each test.
After taking Bio 120 with professor Jenkins, I was considering changing my major. Her lectures are fine and she seems like a nice lady but when it comes to the tests, nothing you can do will ever prepare you enough. I would absolutely not recommend taking her. You will regret it.
She's alright. I had her for lab. Lots of graphs and if you don't know how to use Excel, you're going to have a hard time. She doesn't teach very well. She explains what to do during lab to a point, but you pretty much have to read the manual and figure the procedures out yourself. And if you have a simple question, she just tells you to read.
No attendance, Lectures- clear and easy to understand, posts Powerpoints online. Weekly HW- not hard, don't need textbook, tests- not easy or hard. If you attend all lectures and pay attention, you will definitely get an A. Best Bio prof. ever. She smiles when you enter the room for lecture. Plz take her for lecture and lab in the same semester.
Jennifer Jenkins is everything you want in a professor, she is awesome and really hyper in all of her classes and likes to share personal experiences and examples as they relate to the topics. She is very knowledgeable and funny and lets you grasp the information really easy and makes sure you understand it. Take with an SLA class if you can!
tests are tough, but she is the best bio prof at GVSU. I loved her, and did well, start studying for exams early and you should be okay.
Such an amazing lecture professor. I am so glad that I had her, she is extremely nice and really wants you to succeed. She gives plenty of extra credit and her weekly assignments are easy. You have to go to lecture, pay attention, and study for her tests. The exams are not by any means unreasonable and she isn't interested in being tricky.
Came into this class originally wanting to be a nursing major. That changed fast. She is a nice enough teacher but she is tough and her tests are very confusing. She is very helpful though and I highly recommend her for the lab portion!
Take her for lab! You will not regret it! She is very patient, and wants everyone to succeed! One of my favorite professors at GV!
Prof. Jenkins gives amazing lectures and definitely knows her stuff about biology. Do take her for lecture and i've heard she's excellent for lab as well. I struggled taking her tests at the start because they are so jam packed with information, so you really have to study for those puppies. Otherwise, Jenkins is a must for Bio.
She is a very good professor and knows a lot about biology. She is a very nice person and it shows through her lectures. The assignments are not that hard, but the tests are pretty difficult. If you study for them and do the assignments, you can get a good grade in her class.
I would take her class again because she was a good professor. Her test were kind of difficult but definitely not too hard.
She has like 5 kids so she's very motherly. I was sometimes confused on the lab procedures, but you work in groups of 4 so there are people to help you. Typical lab class.
Her lectures are packed with info, but she usually explains the material very well. Her test are difficult, as should be expected for bio 120, but between her lecture notes, the book, and some youtube videos, they're very doable. Study well and you will at least get a B. She gives homework assignments but they are easy and boost your grade a lot.
Prof Jenkins is fantastic! She's SO enthusiastic about biology and it makes her lectures go by fast. She posts lecture power points online and takes images from the textbook. STUDY THE IMAGES. Tests are very tough, but if you study A LOT you could end up with a decent grade. Do all of the assignments and extra credit, because they will help!
I wasn't sure if biology would be the right field for me, but I absolutely loved this class. She made it fun with lots of visual demonstrations and clear lectures. I learned a ton from her and I would recommend to anyone.
Her lab was very fun and easy, she was really helpful and answered all questions asked. Only one lab report and one easy pedigree assignment, would definitely suggest her for any class. One of the best professors at GV
Professor Jenkins is awesome! Her lectures are very interesting and they keep your attention. This class is very interesting and fun! Definitely will need the book since she makes you read specific sections that will be helpful to know for the exams. Exams have short answer but you can pick which ones to choose from which is nice! Take her!
She is a nice teacher. I didn't have a problem with her so much as the class. And since no one told me: DON'T TAKE BIO 120 IF YOUR MAJOR IS NOT HEALTH/MEDICAL RELATED. Even tho it's a gen-ed. Lectures are extremely dense, which (for me) made it hard to focus. And, you WILL need a bit of time outside of class to study. Tests are very difficult.
She knows what she is talking about and she is so helpful at her officer hours. She offers extra credit pretty regularly which really helps. Her lectures are interesting and you can tell she loves what she does. Not an easy A but she makes it interesting and that made me want to learn more and study harder.
If you need to take BIO-120 take her for lecture. I didn't have her for my lab but I had her for lecture, and she made the class better. Every BIO-120 is a hard class overall because you really have to put effort into getting a god grade, but she is not a though grader and she is really nice and funny. I would take Bio with her again.
Jenkins is very enthusiastic about teaching. She is very fun to listen to. Going to class is very important because she talks about specific examples that are not on the lecture slides that will appear on the test. You can print off the lecture slides before class to follow along but there are words missing; another reason of why not to miss class.
She's definitely a better lab prof compared to lecture. Her lectures are extremely tedious and boring. Her exams are also extremely difficult and she really makes you work for it. I enjoyed her lab much better where she was more one on one with you and had less material to explain to us. She's very nice and approachable though!
This is a tough class but if you pay attention to Jenkins and put in the work it is not too difficult. She gives great examples and diagrams.
Although she isn't terrible, I regret having her as a professor. Her lectures are so boring and she always tries to relate everything back to her kids which takes away from the actual material. I ended up having to attempt to teach the material to myself out of the book but that didn't work. The tests are so hard and will sink your grade forever.
Bio 120 is a tough course regardless of who you have as a professor but I thought that Prof Jenkins did a good job at explaining biology. Lectures are pretty quick and crammed with information and detail that you need to know to pass the exams so you shouldn't skip lecture. She is so enthusiastic about biology that you can tell she cares about us.
Jenkins was an overall great professor she made lectures interesting. She gives plenty of opportunities to receive extra credit. Just be prepared to study a lot for the tests. Use the review questions she gives you at the end of each chapter of notes and do the review questions in the book.
Great professor. BIO 120 is a hard gen-ed to begin with but she makes it easy to get an A if you go to class, pay attention, and put the work in.
Very helpful teacher. She makes a tough class pretty simple. If you study consistently you will do very well in her class. Offers a few extra credit points with almost all assignments. Would take her again!!
She is very enthusiastic about her lectures. She is able to hold your attention the whole time and is very helpful during office hours. Keep up on the online homework, when she puts drawings on the board draw them out as well, don't be afraid to ask questions during the lecture. Her test use many diagrams, multiple choice, and matching.
Jenkins was an awesome professor. I was nervous coming into her class because I heard how hard Biology was. She helped me out so much with her lectures, she made them fun and easy to pay attention too. Highly recommend her. Easy A if you go to class and complete the online homework she assigns.
The tests given are extremely challenging and studying is an absolute must. However, she allows notes on some tests which is useful & she is easy to talk to outside of class. She is a very understanding professor and if you miss a lecture for a legit reason she will gladly give you the notes you missed.
Professor Jenkins is a good professor. This class covers a lot of information, and she does a good job at covering it all. She gives a lot of examples. However, her powerpoints can get confusing, and it can be unclear what will be on her exam.
Jenkins is a really nice lady and truly cares about her students. Her class is definitely manageable and she is really helpful if you have any questions. The homework isn't bad and the tests are a little difficult but nothing impossible! I think her lectures were pretty helpful and the slideshows were awesome to have to study from.
She made a very hard class fun with her explanations. The tests basically cover everything on lecture. She says the book is mandatory, but I only used it when I needed clarification on things. Gives extra credit sometimes when attendance is low. Online homework really boosts your grade, but the tests can be worded funny and challenging at times
You can tell that Professor Jenkins cares about her students and shes always positive and energetic. The tests are difficult, but as long as you take good notes during the lecture it should be manageable. She also offered multiple extra credit points throughout the semester, which helps a lot.
This class was HARD. But the professor is very knowledgeable and does great lectures. You just have to pay attention and study hard (which I didnt) The book isnt required but I suggest reading it if you want an A.
Lectures are posted on Blackboard, my best advice would be to print out the powerpoints (lectures) and add to them during class. The most important information for the tests is usually what she will add to the slides.
Prof Jenkins was a great prof! Her lectures were long and fast paced, but as long as you show up to class and study for tests, its an easy A. She's funny and is always wiling to help you learn! Would definitely recommend.
Exams are way tougher than they need to be for an entry biology course. A LOT of detail and vocabulary, you must decipher exam questions. Take good notes and study often. Wonderful enthusiasm, approachable and overall nice lady.
When assignments were due shed show up before class to help students. She made the material understandable with props, etc., but you still have to study! I did bad on the first test, but I still did decent overall (assignments and online homework boosted my overall grade). Make sure you show up to class! She posts the lectures but WITH blanks!
Prof. Jenkins is a great professor. Shes very caring and she tries to make the material fun so its easier to remember. I also have her for lab too and she walks you though the steps very clearly. She expects you to know the material that she teaches. If you dont show up for lecture, you will have a very difficult time passing her tests.
Great professor, cares a lot about her students. loves teaching and is very good at explaining. She has a clear grading criteria and also you can get a lot of extra credit through the semester. I really enjoyed her classes
Dr. Jenkins is great! She posts all of her lectures (with fill-in-the-blanks) so it's very easy to follow along during class. She offers many extra credit opportunities so take advantage. My advice is study the lecture notes (basically all of her test questions come from there) also pay attention to graphics on Mastering Biology she loves those!
She was an amazing professor. She made the lectures so interesting. She always used creative ways to help you remember the material. I loved how she would draw out all the cycles and hard concepts on the board. It made it a lot easier being able to see it. She's a very sweet and funny person. Hard class but she made it a lot easier.
Easy class if you do everthing asked. She made the class fun and intresting. Opportunities for extra credit. Assignments are easy and test are done in canvas.
The first exam was over 6 chapters of extensive content in 50 minutes. She blows through content & expects you to memorize everything. Shes an extremely tough grader. I have never received full credit on an assignment, even after spending hours on it. Ive never left a review on a prof but I thought it would be a public service to warn: DO NOT TAKE.
Professor is an excellent professor so far. She really does a good job explaining concepts as long as you pay attention to your classes. BIO 120 is not suppose to be an easy class but if you budget your time well and get a tutor you should be fine. Just budget your time to study for tests, which are 60 questions multiple. Easy A and you learn alot.
Professor Jenkins is AMAZING! She makes the content easy to follow and she is always willing to go the extra mile to help students. She doesn't try to trick you on tests and they are heavily based on the lectures. It's not hard to do well in this class as long as you put in the hours studying. I recommend taking the SLA class.n
Very nice and a very good instructor. She grades fairly, and grades depending on if you truly knew what you were doing. The tests aren't too bad as long as you pay attention during lecture and study hard.
I loved having Jenkins as a professor! Shes very passionate about what shes teaching and she always has good visuals to help understand the concept. She has a very lively personality which helps a lot especially if you arent very passionate about biology. The tests are pretty simple and if you study then youll most likely be fine.
Such a sweet lady and very passionate about biology. There are only three exams but they are very difficult. Be sure the start studying at least a week in advance for the tests. She talks very fast, but each thing she says is important to take note of. Print out lecture slides before class.
Professor Jenkins really knows what shes talking about. Her lectures are make the tough material in this class seem much easier. If you get the chance, take Jenkins
Overall, Professor Jenkins was a very nice biology instructor. She was clear in her grading and the tests were straight forward if you understand the concepts in her powerpoints. Willing to help outside of class and she made class enjoyable. Easy A if you put in the work for it.
Professor Jenkins was a great professor, she does go really fast, but does have lots to cover. if you print out the PowerPoints and take notes during lecture on them it is SUPER helpful. She is very caring and such a positive person. Bio was a little hard but I loved her as a professor!
Professor Jenkins is a really caring professor. I would highly recommend taking her for lab too! She posts slides ahead of time of the power points she will talk about during class, definitely print those out and add notes on the sides and fill in the blanks while she talks. She does not post the power points with answers on them, so make a buddy!
She is a great and caring person however, the way she teaches the material us unclear. The exams are way harder than they need to be for a 100 level class. There are multiple assignments that are extensive as well as the written exam portion. On top of that, she is a harsh grader when the instructions were kept vague.
I had to retake bio 120 after getting a C. I was dreading it, but Prof Jenkins was AWESOME and tried to make you understand that there was a lot of information and that outside work was necessary to get a good grade. I ended up getting an A, which was unbelievable and I still can't wrap my head around it. If you can, sign up for the SLA section!!
She is very helpful and wants you to do good in lab. Pay attention because she talks fast and doesn't like to repeat herself. Its easier if you have a good lab group also. I found her really funny.
Professor Jenkins is super nice and cares about her students' learning. She explains things very well during class. If you don't understand, as a question and she'll do her best to help you! I'm not a huge biology fan and she made me really enjoy this class. Opportunities for extra credit too. I would definitely recommend taking her!
Professor Jenkins is an overall good and caring person. However, exams were way harder than they need to be for a 100 level class. The questions are built like an ACT exam rather than testing your knowledge. The way she taught it was harder than my higher level classes. She also doesn't understand that students have more classes than just hers.
Professor Jenkins, although enthusiastic, was extremely disorganized. She frequently rushed through lecture material and skimmed over a majority of it in her explanations. She uses PowerPoint slides for lecture but they were not always consistent with what was provided to students. Definitely learned more through reading the textbook.
Professor Jenkins is certainly an enthusiastic teacher. She loves what she teaches and that shows, however, sometimes she goes to fast and seems to forget that her students do not have as much knowledge about the material as she does. You definitely cannot cram for her exams. There's also a few extra credit opportunities throughout the semester.
She is a very sweet lady who is really enthusiastic about biology, making it much easier to focus. Attendance isnt taken, but the material is covered quickly so you could miss an entire chapter if you skip a day. She is accessible outside of class and is very helpful. Exams are pretty tough, however. HW grades help boost your grade a lot.
I had her freshman year for BIO120 and she was awesome - super good lectures and made class fun. Gave great examples and study guide questions.
very nice lady that will help you along the way. whenever I was stuck on something, I just asked her and she would give me very helpful feedback. she also explains the labs clearly and what is expected. I would say, however, that having good lab partners helped me tremendously as well, so try to have responsible and active members!
Prof Jenkins is super passionate about biology and it shows. She gets excited about lectures and makes good analogies to try and help you understand things. I would recommend going to class because lectures are super important but they go quick. If you miss one day, you could miss a lot of information.
I took Prof. Jenkins bio120 class online this year asynchronously, and she does a great job communicating with her students. She sends emails that give us an idea about where we should be at with learning the material. you can tell shes really passionate about biology which makes me want to learn. super caring, and due dates for homework clear.
Honestly, do not take this class during COVID. Online labs are hard enough but Prof Jenkins made it harder by being a difficult grader for no reason. This lab has so many assignments and it becomes annoying because it's mostly based on videos instead of actually doing stuff. Prof is nice but because of her grading I'd prefer someone else.
I had her for an online lecture during COVID, but you could tell she cares about her students. Although the class was lecture heavy, she taught the information well. Super nice person and replies to emails quickly. Highly recommend her for a BIO 120 prof.
Professor Jenkins needs to understand that we are in a pandemic and are struggling. I had her for lab and she seems to find joy in being a hard grader for no reason. Every week just about was a group project (virtual). We would put hours of effort into our work and email her for help and she would still mark us down. Nice professor but frustrating
She was not a bad professor but she did not do a lot to help her students learn. She did offer office hours but other than that we did not meet with her for a lecture or anything, she would post several (like 7-8) 20-30 minute videos explaining the bare minimum of the topic and then would still expect you to read all of the test book for the topic.
Jen is very kind, and can be understanding depending on the circumstance. Study and take good notes and review them and you will be fine! I will say she does have very long online lectures be prepared for that and a lot of conceptual assignments that require you to watch the lecture videos. Also I would not recommend procrastinating,
Prof. Jenkins is super sweet! I took bio asynchronously, and it wasnt as hard as I thought. Reading the textbook is essential and the lectures she posts on youtube are super helpful too. There were a reasonable amount of assignments/tests, and she gave us plenty of time to work on them.
Took this class online & fully asynchronous. She had a fair amount of assignments, not too many quizzes, and she makes you work for your grade. I would 100% take this class again, she did a great job providing us resources to learn.
Professor Jenkins was so sweet. She does everything to help you succeed and made lab super easy to understand and to do well in. She is available outside of class for questions, but she makes everything very clear every week. As long as you go to lab and put in effort, you will for sure succeed. So kind and knowledgable.
Professor Jenkins cared about her students and also loved talking, even if it wasn't about Biology
She was really nice. I took this class all online which made it very hard for me. The worksheets did not make sense since I did it all online. They were confusing and I could not find the correct resources to help me. She was a very tough grader on the worksheets.
She reached out and blamed me for not helping the group because I wasn't able to come to class that one day!
Dr. Jenkins is super kind and always enthusiastic. She made lab exciting and enjoyable. Pre-labs are easy and allow you to do a lot of research on cool topics. Graded easy on every assignment except for the final project. Great prof.
Prof is nice, but she does absolutely nothing if you need help. Will tell you nonsense in class when you ask for help then mark you down on the assignment you turn in. Always is cancelling her office hours so you can't even get extra help outside of class. Extremely tough grader, so always do your pre-labs ahead of time. Would not recommend her.
Prof. Jenkins is a very sweet woman. As long as you make a point to make a connection with her she will be extremely helpful and grade easier on homework. Not too much work in the class, very reasonable. As long as you make yourself approachable, she will be the same way. Solid choice for a professor!
Great lab professor! She grades labs very easy and is willing to answer all of your questions during class. Pre-labs are straight forward and directly correlate with the lab. Class is mandatory and if you have an unexcused absence it will significantly drop your grade.
Always has an attitude. She needs to realize not everybody has taken biology before. She expects us to know every single thing, and she does not go into depth with her reasoning for things. Others agree too, every time someone asks a question she has the worst attitude when answering it, or gets upset that we don't already know it.
Jenkins is an extremely difficult grader, at least for lab. Very energetic and organized, her class page was a little confusing. No extra credit. I have a feeling she would be a good lecture prof, but do not reccomend for lab. IF YOU TAKE HER LAB, LEARN HOW TO DO CUSTOM ERROR BARS IN EXCEL
She was a good professor, but a lecture-heavy class for an intro class, but that's expected. She gave good examples and tests never had anything she didn't cover. Was pretty easy grader and gave good feedback on assignments that she herself grade. Was flexible with schedules and tests, and extra credit is a plus.
She was a great teacher and explained things in a way that was very easy to understand, also very understanding with workload so makes sure due dates are flexible.
Overall, the class was fine. The thing that got me was the fact that all of our tests were in-person when most other BIO120 profs give their tests online and at home. Therefore, to get the credit for this class you need to put in A LOT more study time than other students in different classes would. She also moves very fast through lectures.
I had her for my BIO 120 lab, and she was great at walking through our assignment for the day. The prelab quizzes were difficult and hard to do well on, she is a REALLY tough grader, I never once got a 100% on a worksheet assignment, and she's pretty rude. When you ask her a question, she is very condescending. She got nicer as the semester ended.
I loved her! I had her for BIO 120. She was really nice and a fair grader. I would take her class again. Very nice and always willing to help. It is a lot of group work. Overall great class
Class was worse than other BIO120 classes -Tests in-person vs all other classes online -I took APBio with same book, this was worse -Hard to talk to -Only 2 extra credit, (little notice), other classes had more -Studied 10+hours for exams -Final was 2 tests; unit 5 test and cumulative final on same day I was relieved with A-, wasn't wasn't worth it
Great professor and knows her stuff but very passive aggressive. She expects you to know everything about BIO. She is better for advance classes instead of GenEd classes.
Every lab is done as a group so that's nice. She did get mad at students for showing up 5-8 minutes late (yes I checked the time) and threatened to take points off of homework assignments if they continued to show up late. However, the class was easy. She was kinda approachable for questions, if she seems annoyed try not to take it personally.
BIO 329. Professor Jenkins is one of the nicest teachers I've had. She cares about how you are doing in the class and will help you out. Lectures are informational and fun, fill in the blank powerpoint notes. Group assignments and project are easy. Books are actually interesting to read. I'm sure she would be a joy in any class, highly recommend.
I had her for 8 a.m. Bio 120 Lab which was a major mistake. She is super passive-aggressive, difficult to talk to when you have a question, and frankly annoying. She is also super tough with grading it seems nearly impossible to get a perfect grade on the labs. I would not recommend her class.
Professor Jenkin isn't bad, she is knowledgeable about the subject and seems genuinely excited to teach. However - as a student who isn't the strongest in sciences, it was a bad experience. She goes too fast and doesn't write her notes anywhere - her slides are more there as props for lectures rather than help when outside of class.
Can tell she's very knowledgeable about the subject, and genuinely cares about teaching. Problem is her lectures are just borderline audiobooks, tests are in person compared to online in the other Bio 120 lectures, and can come off as very passive aggressive as she somehow expects everyone to master Biology. Overall good professor would recommend.
This class was a mess. Don't ever bother trying to ask Jenkins a question because her response will be snarky and passive-aggressive. And when you do ask a question she will almost always announce it to class saying what not to do. So basically only take her class if you never make mistakes and never have any questions. Never take her lab!!
I honestly don't know how she has so many people leaving good reviews. She micromanages everything you do in class not allowing you to make mistakes. And when you do make a mistake she is not very nice about it. She will expect you to know everything. I would suggest finding a different lab professor.
Not super great to have in lab. She expects you to know everything and be perfect. Literally anytime anyone did something wrong she would make a big deal of it making sure the whole class could hear and it was super embarrassing it was the same thing when you asked a question. Also super passive aggressive and micromanages everything.
Dr. Jenkins enjoys the subject of this lab and has a good balance of assigned work. She is a harder grader, which is OK. Sometimes the way she approached you about doing this incorrectly was a little abrasive, but I don't think it was meant to be offensive. Warm and did care about the students throughout the lab.
She was a great lab prof and really made lab go easily and was always willing to answer questions! She was oddly picky with grading on lab worksheets taking 0.25 on some assignments so as long as you take time to do your worksheets well and show up it shouldn't be a challenge to get an A
Prof. Jenkins was very kind and thoughtful to everyone in class. The material was pretty hard when it came to the tests bc she taught very specific things about each unit. Being in her lecture feels like a high school class because she brings a lot of energy. Be ready to learn diagrams.
She picks favorites to treat well and the rest are treated like inconveniences. She was caught talking about another student who annoyed her to her own students last semester. Not professional. I don't recommend taking her if you can avoid it.
Professor Jenkins was a really good professor the only thing is that she was sometimes a little tough to reach outside of class and she moved at a very fast pace. If you come ready to take notes during lecture then you are solid.
Professor Jenkins is knowledgeable but lectures can move fast. Tests are in-person, so expect to put in extra study time. unstuckstudy AI was a lifesaver for preparing. Overall, a challenging but rewarding class.
she was a great lab professor, she helps and is easy to ask questions to. I did not have her for lecture but for lab she was great.
Very good lecture teacher, fast paced, test heavy oriented
Professor Jenkins is super sweet & smart! I really liked her as a lab professor and would definitely recommend taking her if you can. She might be a little unapproachable when it comes to questions, but she'll get you to the answer you need. Overall I really liked her as a person and a prof!
Professor Jenkins is amazing. I had her for lab this semester and always looked forward to her class. She always seemed excited to teach and was willing to help students. Overall an amazing professor I would totally take her class again!
While she could be tough on grading, she was a great professor for lab and helped us to complete the assignments in class and was always willing to answer questions.
Great teacher and very passionate about teaching. I felt like the tests were very hard compared to the content taught.
Very fast lectures, hard to listen and write notes. Exams are big/ cover a lot.
compared to other bio120 classes she has us take the tests in class as opposed to at home, so you need to study a lot. her lectures are interesting, there's always an in class assignment so make sure to always go to class. shes very kind and caring and accommodating.
The best way to take her class is to put your head down and shut up. If you make it known that you don't know the material she will subtly belittle you or make you feel stupid or that you are a bad student. Be present, don't draw unwanted attention, and you will do fine. Material is terrible to learn but don't bother asking for help. Mid class.
She is super enthusiastic about the material she is teacher. The first 2 tests we took were online at home and the last 2 and final exam were in person. She does allow a cheat sheet for the in person exams. Attendance technically isn't mandatory but she does do a in class activity/participation for points each week but doesn't tell you which day.
I can tell that she really likes what she teaches and at times she does explain the material well. Her lectures can be quite boring, but they did go over whats on the tests so WRITE NOTES. I do think she can have an attitude at times when asking questions. I wish she had a more structered way of doing notes because they are mostly fill in blanks.
