As long as you pay attention and follow instructions you should do great in this class. I got an A easily and I'm not an A student.
She is a very good teacher. The class wasn't easy, but she was very helpful. You will have to do a lot of studying, but with effort, you should do well.
One of the best professors I have had at Auburn! Take her class!
more difficult than expected. she grades the speeches very harshly (and maybe its because she is pregnant) but she took off a lot of points on little things. very frustrating when you spend so much time preparing for the speeches and i don't know of anyone getting an a in my class
I took the online version - easy. Follow the instructions and rubrics for your speeches and you are golden. Pick something interesting for your speeches and not something dumb, she likes outside the box things. Read the book for the Final and KNOW YOUR FALLACIES!
Very willing to help and a very sweet woman. Very understanding! You need to know and understand basic concepts and all fallacies for final. Final isn't terrible if you study for it. Studied day before and made an A! Doesn't grade speeches too hard and online assignments are not hard at all! Take her if you can!
Great for online public speaking. Very accommodating. Do your assignments, follow the grade sheet- you will be fine. If you work, pay attention, and do what is expected of you, you WILL receive an A.
I had this professor for public speaking and she was reasonable but this was the hardest class I've taken at Auburn and should've been an easy A. I spoke with many of my classmates and they were struggling with the class as well. Do not take this class with her if you want a good grade. She made a fun class into a tedious, impossible class.
This class is one of the toughest classes I've taken and being an online intro class it should not be that way. The Mid-Term and the Final are very difficult and are each worth 40% of your overall grade making the online assignments and discussions basically pointless. It is also difficult to get in contact with her she is not lenient with grades.
DONT TAKE HER ONLINE INTRO TO FILM CLASS. THE MIDTERM IS UNREAL.
Being a Comp Sci, I'm an introvert and was very nervous about this class and Auburn makes it way too difficult, but I enjoyed it. I'm no longer nervous giving speeches. Read the rubrics, your speeches need to be structured correctly to get a decent grade. Don't expect an A, but a B is doable. Final is from the textbook - keywords and vocab.
Her weekly assignments are pretty straightforward. You have two tests, Mid-Term and Final... They were both open book but do not expect to do very well. I did average on the mid-term and expected to do magnificent on the final I did not. The questions were not very well thought out and even if you look them up you will most likely get it wrong.
Professor Johnson was great. She taught how to give a good speech according to the requirements and explained everything very well. I have no complaints. I do wish the department would put together a study guide for the department wide final because it was all example based. Not impossible, but don't blow it off. Made a B on it.
Professor Johnson was such a good professor. At first I was skeptical of her strict no technology policy but she really made the lectures entertaining and easy to engage in. The exams are kind of tough so be ready to put in lots of effort. She gives short online quizzes every week which are easy A's if you do the reading. I would 100% recommend her
She is a true gem. Mrs. Johnson is the head of the public speaking department and she is so fun and makes class interesting. She eases speaking anxiety and makes you feel comfortable giving a speech. She does give fair grades, though, so if you suck it up, your grade will reflect that. She does grade tougher online, but sweet as can be.
Jennifer's class taught me the difference between an easy class and my favorite class. This class is my favorite, but I've had to work pretty hard for my grade. You have to read to pass the quizzes, and the only grades you get are the 2 point quizzes and 3 tough exams. She's great at relating terms to the real world and is engaging. Strict, though.
Jennifer Johnson has become my favorite professor at Auburn. She works hard to get to know her students even though she teaches classes on a larger scale. Her class is challenging but thoroughly engaging. It takes you the first test to get your footing, and the class definitely requires a lot of effort, but the class itself is exciting.
Love her lectures. She is so nice and understanding and wants you to succeed. Her lectures are so relatable and make you understand CMJN careers much better. Would highly recommend. Brought us food to class lol
She is awesome!! She taught each subject in a fun way and made it interesting to learn! The tests were easy because she gave us study guides and told us on specific things to focus on! She really cares about each major and wants her students to find the right fit!
Great class! CMJN2100 has the reputation to be very difficult, but I have enjoyed going to class every single day (attendance mandatory). The tests are not bad if you pay attention, do the readings (which is a lot of reading per week...), and go through study guides.
She takes attendance every single day. And if you are on your phone, she will take questions off the ENTIRE class's test. She really cares about what she's teaching and gave us two opportunities for extra credit. She gives study guides that tell you exactly what will be on the test. DO THE STUDY GUIDES. She's a very nice and interesting person.
Professor Johnson is a great teacher. Her lectures are always interesting. Do not miss class because attendance is mandatory. Very strict technology policy so leave your phone in your bookbag. Content was very clear and the class isnt difficult. Just show up, pay attention, and you'll be fine.
The class is pretty easy - tests are taken on Canvas in class & she gives a study guide that is easy to memorize. The worst part of the class is that attendance is required & for each class you miss, 2 points are deducted off final grade. Lectures are long and BORING, especially since you can't have your phone out or she takes 5 q's off the test.
She does not help you when you ask questions and she does not give you any idea on what to study for the final!!!!
I really loved her class! She has a VERY STRICT technology policy with phones and computers; if someone is caught using their phone or it goes off, she takes off questions on everyone's tests. She gave us study guides before every test and they always helped. If you have more than 2 unexcused absences, she starts deducting points, so GO TO CLASS.
Johnson is a solid professor. She explains the material very well. GO TO CLASS. Study guides breakdown exactly what will be asked on the tests. It takes a lot of effort to go through them thoroughly, but if you do that you've got an A. She wants you to succeed. No trick questions. Lectures cover a lot, but she does a good job of keeping it lively.
Awesome professor. She gives study guides with EXACTLY what will be on the test - know the study guide and I don't know how you can't make an A. Tests all multiple choice. As others have mentioned, strict attendance and no-devices policies. Interesting lectures with lots of stories/anecdotes. Film section is best part, get to watch movies in class!
Concepts of CMJN is one of the easiest classes I have taken at Auburn. It was straight memorization for 3 tests and a non cumulative final. All mult. choice. Everything you need to know is on the study guide she gives you before the test, you just have to add some notes from the book and make a quizlet on it/memorize. Don't have to pay attention
Mrs. Johnson is a great teacher. She has a lot of experience teaching and in the field, so she knows what she is talking about. Although tech isn't allowed AT ALL, she tells stories, encourages participation & shows videos. She gives very good study guides & is overall a good person.
tech policies can be the hardest part of the class but definitely would recommend taking her. I really enjoyed the class and your grade is based on two exams and a final. Lectures are posted online and you are given weekly quizzes to try and help your grade but they do not do much. Classes are mandatory and she is pretty strict about that.
Such a great professor! She really care about her students and their grades. Make sure to go to class and participate. Also beware of the no technology policy if youre found on your phone she will take off your grade and take off test questions.
I really enjoyed this class! She is such a great professor and incorporates fun and interested stories into the lectures. The tech policy was a little annoying (no technology or you get questions/possible points taken off the tests) but you get used to it. I would definitely take this class again and recommend it to others. I learned so much!
I don't think there is another option other than Ms. Johnson, but she is a good professor for CMJN! She is experienced in the field so has a lot of knowledge. You have to go to class and absolutely NOT use any technology. I would go, listen, not take notes, and just do the study guide. Only got a B because I forgot to do some of the online quizzes.
I think shes cool, funny, & gives great lectures. Shes very knowledgeable & her powerpoints are basically the tests. Gives good examples & shows videos a lot. There are quizzes every Friday & are straight from the book but are very easy. Theres a no technology policy, which most people wouldnt like but it made me focus more so I liked that.
professor johnson is an amazing teacher and i am honestly sad this class is over. she posts study guides that are exactly like the test so all you have to do is study that and you'll pass with As and Bs. she only gives 2 skips the entire semester and there is a strict no phone policy but it was not that bad. definitely recommend
She is a nice lady! No technology policy in class with assigned seats and mandatory attendance. Make sure to really study the study guides. An A is doable if you work hard. It's all lecture-based but she doesn't just read from the slides - she likes what she is teaching
Shes super strict with attendance. Especially using electronic devices in class. You only get two chances of absent. And you play your phone, late after 10 min, leave class earlier all count absent. If there are students play with their phones, exam questions will plus 5 more. If you have any other choices, dont choose her.
A hard grader on public speaking but also gives good feedback, good lectures, is enjoyable to listen to, and is so accessible for questions and help. Just be prepared for your speeches and she wont roast you.
Sooo much fun. First unit is very boring, but after that, the class takes off and she really knows her stuff. If you do the study guides yourself then you will definitely do well on the tests. She also offered two or three extra credit opportunities. She does a nice job of engaging you in the lectures and trying to create discussion.
Professor Johnson was a great professor. You can clearly tell she loves teaching journalism and those were my favorite portions of the semester. Tests are easy if you look over notes and her study guide. Go to class and take notes and youll do great.
Would definitely recommend this class and teacher
Mrs. Johnson is amazing and really knows her stuff! She is very passionate about the material in the course. She is there to help if needed and offers lots of extra credit. There is a lot of material on tests but if you study you should be ok. She has a lot of structure in her class and takes things seriously. Highly recommend taking her!
Mrs. Johnson's class wasn't hard, but attendance was mandatory. You get 2 free absences, then the rest count off of your final grade. The lectures were a little boring, but a lot of the test material comes from the Powerpoint slides. She gives a study guide that tells you everything you need to know for the test, so if you study, you will do well.
Very boring lectures but most things she says in class isn't on her exams. Gives study guides, extra credit, and is actually very funny. Class is mandatory and you only get two absences but that's the only downside of this class. I have never studied and I'm finishing w a very high B. She also has a lot of good insight about jobs in the COMM field.
This class can be difficult but her study guides for the tests go directly along with the tests and the few quizzes you have to take are open note. She really knows how to engage during lectures and makes class super interesting. If you just study for the tests and do the quizzes you will pass and she will also help you with anything you need.
This class was not bad. There were only 10 quizzes and 2 tests + a final which she gives very detailed study guides for. She told lots of personal stories from her own life to make the lectures more interesting. Definitely would take her again
Jennifer Johnson was super strict about technology, no phones or even laptops for notes or else it'll count you as absent and points will be taken off your final grade. Lectures could be boring at times but she does her best to keep them interactive. Tests often have details that seem small during lectures on them so make sure you take good notes.
Her lectures are very interesting but have nothing to do with the tests. She gives study guides which help with the test a ton. If you do what's on the study guide the tests are an easy A. She gives seating charts and doesn't allow any type of technology. She does not give you any indication of what your grade is at any point in the semester.
Ms. Johnson is my favorite professor in the communication department. She is so entertaining in class, so it keeps the lectures interesting. The tests are not easy, but not super hard either, you just need to study. She also gives extra credit.
great teacher. Only 3 tests total and quizzes for each section. Test are basically straight from the study guide, not really the class notes. if you study the study guide you will be fine. she is not very friendly to her students tho. if you get up during class or check your phone you lose an attendance point.
She is a good teacher and loves her job but she is so strict for no reason?! Her tests are unnecessarily hard imo and she has a no technology policy which like were adults if i wanna use my laptop and also online shop then thats on me if i fail then thats my fault. she also got very mad when people went to the bathroom like sorry i have to pee
Her attendance policy is completely out of hand. It is to the point where her care for the student's well being is gone. Made us attend class when a tornado touched down hours before. Counts you absent if you need to get up to use the restroom. She is not friendly whatsoever. Tests are easy, just study on Quizlet. Dont take notes. No point in it.
I would not reccomened taking this professor. She counts you absent if you look at your phone or apple watch. A 2 hour lecture is long and boring and we need to see the time. She also got mad at one point and starting counting you absent if you got up to use the bathroom during the class. Attendance is super strict.
Attendance is mandatory, she has a zero-tolerance tech policy. There is a GTA who marks you absent if you look at your phone/smartwatch. Also don't leave to go to the restroom, towards the end of the semester, she even started marking people absent for doing so. Tests are most of your grade, but there's extra credit for some of them which is nice.
Professor Johnson is a pretty good teacher. There are 2 things that I dont particularly agree with. (1) she has a no tech policy which makes no sense to me because we use technology for our main way of taking notes. (2) ATTENDANCE!!! Her attendance policy is very strict. Other than that, she is a good teacher. I would recommend her.
Prof. Johnson was an alright teacher. This class is required for my major, but it wasn't too bad. She has a no-tech policy which is frustrating. She also lectures too quickly to take notes by hand in class, but she posts all of her power points online so I would just write them outside of class. The class was interesting and usually pretty engaging
Professor Johnson makes her lectures interesting by telling personal stories that connect to the material being learned in class. Tests come straight from the study guide and there are a few short quizzes within each module. No tech policy in class which you get easily accustomed to.
Dr. Johnson is an incredible instructor! She is knowledgable and experienced. She helped us learn and truly wanted to see us succeed. I would recommend her to anyone taking this class.
Professor Johnson is easy to understand and most definitely knows what she's talking about. The tests can seem intimidating at the beginning of the semester, but she provides a study guide that lays out everything you need to know, making them really manageable. I would definitely recommend taking one of her classes if you can!
LOVE THIS CLASS!!!! She is strict with attendance, but this is one of the only fully lecture classes I can go to and actually be interested. Her tests are super straightforward and she gives you a study guide. She wants you to succeed! She makes class fun, so I highly recommend.
She is a great teacher, but the attendance policy is strict and if you use your phone/laptop get counted as absent and you only get two unexcused all semester. However, she makes study guides that if you learn well you will do good on the test. extra credit is available she engages with her students and class is rarely the full 1h15 min.
This class isn't a class you can just slack in, but it also isn't super hard at all. It's all super interesting because professor johnson makes it fun. Attendance is mandatory but I actually looked forward to this class. She is super sweet.
Very straightforward class! First exam was harder than the second 2. Final is not cumulative; it is just a 3rd exam. No phones allowed at all and attendance is mandatory. If you miss more than 2 classes or get caught on your phone then you lose 2 points off grade for each time. If u follow the rules, very easy A. 2 Bonus assignments help grade lots
Professor Johnson is a very nice and respectable teacher overall! Attendance is mandatory but you do get two "free" days where you don't have to provide an excused absence so that's nice! The no technology policy can be annoying but it's not unbearable. Exams are exactly like the study guides so study those and you'll do fine in the class!
I loved this class, which is surprising because I hate public speaking. She made us feel comfortable with her humor, and fun stories of past classes. The grading was super clear, if you follow the speaking outlines in the book you will prob get an A. I struggled a little with the delivery aspect, but I got As on all speeches because of the content.
This course consists of a lot of busywork and a few recorded speeches. If you follow the rubrics for your speeches and turn in your assignments on time, you should be smooth sailing. The final is a book test which is a little difficult though. Really nice professor who is easy to get a hold of if you don't understand something. Good course overall.
Prof. Johnson is good overall. She has dumb classroom rules that get annoying a lot of the time. No technology at all (even checking your apple watch) and you can't leave the class after the first 10 minutes of class. If you do so, you'll get counted absent. The good thing is that her lectures are pretty interesting. She has good stories.
Prof. Johnson has enjoyable lectures and fun stories. However, her grading system and over-the-top rules greatly affect the quality of her classroom. Firstly, her grade system is point based. It is essentially impossible to get an A without getting a 90 on every exam and a 100 on every quiz. She has strict, archaic no tech and bathroom rules.
Class was mandatory but you got 2 skips (wait till end of the year before finals when you watch a movie). Never needed to take notes because she released study guides (I could truly just listen to the lectures). Memorize the study guide with quizlet and you will get an A. 2 extra credit opportunities that are crazy easy and add 10% to your tests!
CMJN should be called: "If you're a department head at Auburn you can do whatever you want." Don't get me wrong she's a very nice person but her class is pointless. You sit there with no phone/computer and you listen to a random story about her career which may or not have happened. Use her study guide if you want to pass. First test kinda hard ngl
Great lecturer and cares about students. Grading criteria is clear, if you show up to class and follow the rubric's as they say you should get an A
Man, I've never heard a teacher YAP more. If there was a yapping competition, Jennifer Johnson would win it by a mile. Grade is just 3 exams and 10 easy quizzes. no phone and mandatory attendance. you watch SO MANY pointless videos but she's nice I guess.
This woman has a LOT of strict rules: no electronics of any kind, mandatory attendance, must participate, etc. I wasn't excited in the beginning, but she had engaging and interesting lectures, and her tests/quizzes are easy. I would've preferred less strict rules on electronics and attendance, but if you don't care about that, then she's okay.
My favorite professor so far at Auburn!! She is such good teacher and her tests are exactly like the study guides. She even offers two very generous bonus point assignments. There are assigned seats, and attendance is mandatory, but she tries her best to make the class interesting and she does a good job of that.
Lectures were interesting and she had a lot of cool stories to tell. The tech/attendance policy is really annoying but I cant deny that it did help me do better in the class. The exams are easy if you study and she offers a lot of extra credit. The weekly quizzes are also really easy
Cons: not many "buffer" grades, tests cover a lot, insanely strict classroom policies Pros: super nice, accurate study guides for exams, "buffer" grades are very easy, engaging lectures
her tech policy is insane. Her GTA saw me check my Apple Watch and marked me absent for the day. Her lectures are sometimes interesting, and very video heavy. Her study guides are accurate for the exams, and she offered extra credit after both of the exams so far. a nice woman just extremely strict.
Class is relatively easy, first exam is hard though. Only graded by 320 total points and exams are 300 of those points. Strict tech, seating, and attendance policy, but it does force you to pay attention. Not a demanding class in terms of coursework, but you have to study for the tests and should come to class prepared to be there the whole time.
Great class. Clear expectations and if you follow her rules, you will succeed. She's very strict about attendance and does not allow any use of phones. But, amazing lecturer and very interesting class!
Dr. Johnson sets things out very clearly and as long as you follow the grading criteria you will be fine. 60% of the grade is two speeches, so make sure to meet all the criteria for those.
She is a fine teacher but shows so much favoritism. It was clear in the class and the grade book who she liked and disliked. Also her grading is confusing. The rubric is clear but there are different pages you have to look at to get all of the information. Makes it hard to just get clear answers about things. I would not take her again.
At first, I was unsure of the attendance/technology policy, but I ended up liking the course. The lectures get more interesting as you go on. Honestly didn't take a lot of notes and was fine. She gives study guides for each test which were super helpful. Also if you look on Quizlet you can find quizlets that line up with the study guides.
She is very nice! She gives great examples and is a semi-easy speech grader. She cares about everyone in the class and encourages everyone to become friends. She explains everything well and goes over everything in class. If you are considering taking honors public speaking...do it!
This class is lowk a joke if you have any common sense and you aren't a phone gremlin. Go to class, don't get on your phone, make a quizlet from the study guide she provides, and its a cupcake class. She's a nice professor so its fine.
This professor knows her material and teaches it very well. Her grading criteria is very clear. Follow the rubrics in the textbook because she will take off points for lack of eye contact, vocal fillers, and lack of transitions. Practice a lot for the speeches because there aren't many grades that go in. She is very engaging.
really annoying. why do you have high school rules when we are in college? assigned seating when the class is like 200 people.TA walking around the entire time making sure u don't use any technology, if u do ur absent for the day. no bathroom either or counted absent! and she uses up EVERY second of class lecturing. also ur grade average is locked!
This class was pretty easy. She gives you a study guide with what will be on the tests and the tests are online, but taken in class. The only weird thing is that there are no computers and phones because of "distractions" while they have people constantly walking up and down the aisles. Just be ready to sit and be bored and sometimes get a laugh.
Lectures get boring but they don't really matter. Gives good study guides, follow them and you'll get A's. Exams are the only grade besides weekly quizzes that add up to 20 pts. Hate her attendance policy, so ridiculous to have a TA walking down the aisles the entire class but going to the bathroom gets you an absence because its "distracting"
This is by far the worst class I've taken at Auburn. Classes are slideshows accompanied by lectures neither of which cover exam material. Professor Johnson is dismissive if you try to go to her for help in person or through email. She has her GTAs constantly going up and down the aisles trying to catch students using technology which is disruptive.
She has a really strict no phone policy, as well as a seating chart and an attendance policy. Aside from that, the lectures are sometimes really interesting, and if you need this class for your major its pretty beneficial. She gives great study guides, and all in all its not a bad class once you get past the rules.
One of the worst class experiences I had at Auburn. She is completely dismissive to students and treats everyone like it is high school. Has a GTA stomping down the aisles the entire class to check if we're using technology, but will mark us absent for using the bathroom due to it being a "distraction". She has lost it and needs to quit teaching.
Has 3 tests that determine your grade, but you can't even see your grade for some reason. You won't know what you will get until the end. Tests are all multiple choice, which is weird for a journalism class.... Just show up and listen to her lectures, and leave. Will talk about stories and thats really it.
Dr. Johnson has clear expectations for tests and is overall a great professor. Very lecture heavy and lectures usually take full time; however, sometimes they are interesting/fun/include class participation. She tells a lot of personal stories that can get repetitive but you get used to it.
What even was this class? TA stalks you like a freaking hawk as she walks up and down the aisle to make sure you aren't on your phone. Hope you go to the bathroom before class or can hold it until after because if you go in class that counts as an absence. Also assigning seats in a +200 person class is insane. Felt like I was back in high school.
You have 3 exam and she gives two opportunities for extra credit that is worth 10 bonus points to your exam grade. She is extremally strict she does not allow laptops or any devices out or she will count you absent. The exams are not that hard just make sure you are studying because it can be a lot of information.
Professor Johnson is great. Her class is straightforward, you have readings and quizzes, 3 exams, and 2 extra credit. Attendance is a grade, but honestly the lectures are interesting enough that class goes by quick. Just have to get past the first exam for the class and it'll be an easy A.
She knew what she was doing and is knowledgeable about what she is teaching, but she showed extreme favoritism and graded harsher (It seemed like) if she doesn't like you. She would knock all kinds of points off for random things that she would not mark on others. The whole time it was just obvious who she did and did not like.
Her class is very easy. If you know the things on the study guide, you'll be fine. I've studied the day of for all the tests and did great. Is the assign seating, tech and attendance policy stupid? Yes, but it's not really that deep. Lectures are okay. I stopped taking notes after a while, and didn't read anything because it doesn't help.
i was dreading this class but it became one of my favorites. yes the attendance and tech policies are dumb but honestly it made me listen and most of her lectures were interesting, she has lots of stories to tell. tests are EASY and she gives you the study guide with all answers. honestly would take her again and did come to enjoy the class.
Her class can be very daunting, but I honestly enjoyed it. The tech and attendance policies are annoying but it helped me pay attention and do well on tests. She makes lectures interesting and offers a couple extra credit opportunities throughout the semester. My biggest issue was that the class was at 2pm, so it was always dragging but not bad!
Loved this class! Was mad abt the tech policy at first but I ended up being grateful. Spent less time studying bc I paid attention in class. Tests are exactly like the study guides she gives you and the notes in class. Show up and don't be on your phone and you'll make an easy A. I also loved her stories every class.
Easy class? Yes. Would I choose to take HER class again? NO. Awful classroom environment due to her attitude. STRICT RULES: no using bathroom after first 10 mins of class, mandatory attendance, and no phones/computers/iPads (every person that gets caught with a phone out is one test question off the test for everyone). Forced to take notes on paper
