She's funny and very nice but her tests are not easy. This is not a class where you expect to get an A easily.

OH MY GOSH!! I absolutely LOVE prof. Jovel! She is such a nice person! Her class is geared for student success! Just like any class if you put forth the effort you will not only get a great grade but you will learn a hell of alot. I hate that I will not be taking anymore of her classes. Oh and shes a looker too! ;)

Dr. Jovel is a brilliant professor at Ohlone College! Her class isnt easy but just watching her lecture motivates you to do good! THE FINEST PROFESSOR TO EVER TEACH AT OHLONE!! If you like to be taught by hot, spicy, and sexy latinas, Dr. J is for you! There are at least 4 essays or projects as well as a midterm and final-mulitple choice. ILY DR.J!

Professor Jovel is such an amazing teacher. Her lectures are fun, and mandatory to attend. She's willing to help you out anyway she can, through emails or office time. The test aren't that tough, as long as you keep up with the reading and spend at least a good day studying the material you'll earn a A or B.

Ms. Jovel is a good teacher. Her lectures are interesting and she is also pretty funny. As long as you read each chapter each week like she says, come to class take notes, and you do the 2 papers you should be passing. Great teacher though.

I loved this professor so much! She is probably the only professor that you will really build a connection with. She only gave two papers, but she gave them to you on the second day of class. Easy to pass if you attend lectures and take notes, she curves her tests, and has interesting lectures. It's obvious she cares for her students. Homework is due once a week, 2 essays, and 3 tests. Super easy class, would recommend her

Jovel is a down-to-earth teacher who knows that college can be overwhelming. Midterms are extremely easy as long as you study. There are weekly tests you take online but you can retake them until you get an A. Only 2 papers and both are givin to you on the second day of class.

Best professor I've ever had!. She is very clear and helpful. She gives two essays with more than enough time to write them. Two mid terms and one final, easy if you pay attention in her lectures and take notes to study you will get an A.

The online class was very well-structured contrary to some of my classmates' beliefs. There is at least one discussion every week in which you must post and respond, she gives you instructions for the term paper at the beginning of the semester, and she's lenient on MySocLab assignments. If you do poorly, it means you didn't even remotely try.

"EASY" is the most apt word to describe Jovel's classroom experience. She's a passionate, caring and helpful teacher and although she's got a ways to go in improving her lectures, she tries her best to make class interesting and fun. It works (most of the time.) Highly recommended because she tries her hardest to make the class very easy for us.

Took her online Soc101. She is extremely clear about her expectations, organized, and helpful. I would highly recommend her course. Be prepared to participate weekly with plenty of tests and quizzes, discussions, papers, 2 midterms and a final to keep you busy. It's all manageable though!

By far the most helpful teacher I have taken at Ohlone. She truly cares about her students and wants you to learn. This is a very interactive class so participation and daily attendance is crucial for an effective lecture. Be prepared to have open class discussions at every single class meeting. Take her and you won't regret it.

AMAZING PROFESSOR. Her Socio 102 class is easy to pass with 1 midterm, 1 final and 1 research paper but she breaks it down into sections and gives thorough explanations and examples. Be prepared to discuss in class (she won't force it out of you!) but just a heads up! She makes the class interactive and fun, a real booster for the mornings!

online, is great class as long as you are willing to put the time into it. if your taking her in class you will get more out of her awesome lectures and grasp the concepts better. She has one film analysis and a sociological autobiography that is required. I recommendation doing the homework ASAP for weeks in advance. get it done early.

She is A M A Z I N G!!! She gives a little bit of her background which inspires you to do better in life. Very clear, take notes (they will help you succeed in class). 2 midterms; 1 Final and 2 Papers. She's great and always there to help you. Also, she answeres emails fairly quickly.

Awesome Teacher! Class has group activities. 50 multiple choice tests and 2 papers. She is super nice and is there when you need her

Dr. Jovel has been my favorite professor at Ohlone so far. She inspired me to change my major to sociology! As long as you show up to class and take notes, you'll pass. She assigned a 10 page essay, but 1-3 page sections of the paper are due every few weeks, so it's not overwhelming at all!

. Very easy A. She makes everything really clear and sinks down to the students level so we can understand. She has a 10 page paper which mine came out to 16 pages but it is so easy. She breaks down the paper step by step and we work the whole semester with the paper peace by piece. If your getting a M.A. is Sociology, take it. Itll help you.

Lot's of assignments and weekly work, but good class overall.

Jovel is definitely my favorite professor to date! She is extremely organized, and the way she runs her class is clear cut. You take weekly, five question quizzes (she drops your 2/3 lowest scores from grading), have two major and straightforward papers, and 2 midterms with a final that isn't cumulative. She's friendly and inspiring! Great lectures

She gives out really good and informative lectures and her midterms and finals are all based on them, so just take good notes and you will be fine. There are also weekly quizzes online but they take less than five minutes to do and she drops the lowest three; she's a pretty easy grader on the papers too so overall this class is an easy A.

If you want an easy A and you're curious about sociology, take her!! I always looked forward to her class. The midterm and final are based on lectures so as long as you take notes you'll do fine. The research process for the social problem essay is actually super fun and will prepare you for a senior thesis or even a master's degree!

AMAZING PERSON! she is honestly a awesome human being. I had her for both Soc 101 and Soc 102 and I would say shes one of the best professors at Ohlone. She cares alot and pushes her students to the highest level. Even with writing a 10 page paper which was broken down. You can tell she really cares about her students and sincerely loves her job.

I had her for soc 101. she is good in general. but if you arent on top of it you can easly tumble down. you have to be on top of ever assignment. you get 2 midterms and 2 papers and weekly chapter quizzes. I can say she genuinely care about the students and she is there if you need help or clarification. I recommend her.

She is super helpful! She really knows what college students are struggling, so feel free to talk to her. Everything is MC; there are quizzes every week, but it's super easy. There are 2 mid-terms and one final, as long as you pay attention in class and review her notes, you can get an A easily.

Pretty chill class; easy weekly quizzes, 2 papers, 2 midterms, and one final. The papers are all about you, so they weren't hard to write at all. Her lectures were never boring and this class was the reason why I became a sociology major. I recommend Jovel if you need credits/are a SOC major.

Professor Jovel is not a difficult teacher. The way to receive a high grade in the course is by providing lengthy discussion board posts and essays, doing well on quizzes, and keeping up with the REVEL textbook readings. It's an easy A if you're dedicated. I liked her and although it was an online course, I still felt her care through the screen.

Currently taking her SOC101 and she's amazing! Lectures aren't boring at all and keeps you engaged. Easy 5 question weekly quizzes, multiple choice midterm and final. 2 major essays but they're pretty easy since she tells you exactly what she wants for each paragraph and how to approach it.

Great teacher. You don't really need the textbook if you take good notes, but she gives two big papers during the course, where using the textbook in addition to notes you took is very useful. For her exams, she gives a study guide of everything that will be on it. She is very approachable if you have any questions and is an interesting lecturer.

By far one of the nicest professors I've ever met in Ohlone. She truly cares about her students to pass. She has two big papers which requires you to use the text book and are quite time consuming. Professor Jovel is so nice and really cares about what she's teaching. I didn't think I would like the class I was taking with her, but i enjoyed it and it helped me irl. She gives a lot of textbook work (revel stuff) & you have to read to get points, but they were interesting reads so it wasn't like i was dying reading them. Overall a great class!

SOC 101 with Dr. Jovel is a must. She is a very inspiring professor. You'll learn a lot from this class. Midterm and final are both multiple-choice (roughly 60 questions). There are also two essay assignments with very clear instructions so they're not that overwhelming. There are also weekly online quizzes and the lowest three scores are dropped.

Dr. Jovel is the sweetest professor on the Ohlone campus. She is very hardworking and determined to pass every student. Her lectures are amazing and clear, she makes sure you have detailed information on the Midterms, Finals, and Essays. I definitely want to take SOC 102. I recommend taking Dr. Jovel's class if you want to take Sociology.

Great online class with all the assignments organized and clear in expectations. If you get anything lower than an A, it is on you. All you got to do is try, that's it. Oh yeah, Dr. Jovel gives really nice feedback for the graded assignments.

Jovel is so passionate about teaching, she comes from a tough background that she enjoys her life and you can feel her excitement. She gives two papers that are fairly easy if you follow the structure and give definitions. Her first midterm is the hardest but manageable, the second midterm and the final are very easy. Hands down the best professor I've had. Her background is very inspirational and provides amazing & engaging lectures. Be prepared to have small discussions in your groups and make sure you take good notes. I highly recommend you find someone with access to the book because it's not really used other than for your group presentation.

Dr. Jovel is probably one of the best professors I have had at Ohlone College. I took her ONLINE "Marriage and Family" (SOC-105) class. It was very interesting and fun. You have to do a discussion every week along with a REVEL quiz. She gives very good feedback and will help anyone who needs it. Overall, one of the best professors! 10/10

She's really sweet and approachable! Her lectures are actually really interesting and super easy to follow. Gives a short break after lecturing for a while and allows you to use laptops for notes. 2 midterms and 2 papers, all of which are straightforward and an easy A. Plenty of extra credit and no hw besides an online quiz due every Sunday.

took her online sociology 101 class. pretty easy class but it requires some work. She grades difficult at first but then once you get her format, its an easy 9/10 or 10/10. weekly quizzes on revel, discussion boards every week, and 3 tests throughout semester. Pretty easy class if you just put the work in. 2 papers as well throughout semester.

Professor Jovel is absolutely amazing! Took her sociology 101 class in the fall and I was not disappointed at all. 2 essay , 2 midterms and 1 final. She gives many extra credit opportunities for her students and gives god feedback as well. As long as you take good notes your guaranteed to pass. Gives great study guide before exams. Dr. Jovel is one of the best teachers I've ever had. She is kind, funny, and really invested in your experience. I learned so much from her, and not just about sociology. I took all of her classes (some online and some in person) and I would highly recommend taking her classes in person. I plan to keep in touch with her even after transferring.

I took the winter session online course and you would have to complete a discussion post and 2 responses, and many textbook quizzes every 3 days. Then there were 2 sociology blog posts, 3 exams, and 1 movie analysis paper that had to be at least 7 pages. I had to reference to the textbook a lot and also had to buy the access code for Pearson Revel.

Amazing lecturer, very empathetic and definitely has been there. Her assignments are not in the syllabus for the heck of it, theyre there to prepare you to be not only successful but confident in your path to higher education. Jovel doesnt mind being there to guide you as a student or peer. Shes A1 day 1, the one you want in your corner!

If you're like me & hate interacting with people in class, she will make you! thought i'd give the shy people a heads-up. Take her, she is great!

Professor Jovel was a very sweet professor with a clear grading criteria. However, she is quite the tough grader and expects a lot out of her students. Make sure you go above and beyond what she asks for on all assignments to receive full credit.

Bc of this pandemic, we had to go online so attendance was not mandatory but this is really one of those classes where you miss her lectures. Weekly revel quizzes, 2 exams, 2 papers, 1 final. Exams are based off of lectures. If you put in effort, she'll notice. Gave out extra credits for exams and final as well. I absolutely loved this class!!

I just finisehd Dr. Jovel's SOC 101 class regarding marriage and the family. She is an incredibly kind, brilliant, and caring professor. Sr. Jovel *clearly* cares about the individual success of each and every student. YES - you need to read the textbook. YES - you need to do occasional quizzes. Professor Jovel is probably one of the most caring, sweet, and inspirational professors at Ohlone. Her essays can be a bit much and a tad bit confusing but she's willing to help students along the way. Her grading criteria is very straight forward. I highly suggest you take her if possible!

Professor Jovel gained my upmost respect. Though it being an online course, Jovel stays engaged and connected to her students in any way she can. She genuinely wishes to know you and sending her a simple "hi" makes her entire week. The class is very straightforward but her apprehension, compassion, and engagement are the key take-aways!

A great professor! Every week there is required reading with quizzes and discussion participation. There are 2 papers and 3 exams for the full semester. Even though the class was asynchronous, Jovel records lectures and gives a lot of feedback for your work. She also writes lengthy announcements to help students.

She is very nice and understanding. I ended up getting Covid and couldn't write my paper when it was due and she was super understanding and gave me an extension. I took the fast paced version of this class so there was a lot of reading but nothing too hard and it was actually very interesting! There is a 8 page paper at the end but its not too bad

Literally the best professor, I was skeptical when I was going to take this class. But my god was she the best. She spaces the work out in a way that it is VERY doable. You can do everything in this class. You do the work every week and you pass A. There is weekly reading, but nothing that you cannot work with. TAKE HER and you wont regret it!!!!!!

Professor Jovel is a very sweet lady. If you have any questions, email her and she will reply to you quickly and in depth. Her class consists of one discussion post per week, and Pearson Revel textbook quizzes. There were exams every two weeks, and two papers for the whole class. She was also very considerate when I got my wisdom teeth out.

She is legit the best!!! The work for the class is not so heavy and can be easily done. The discussion boards are easy and the quizzes and exam should be fine too. Plus the subject overall is quite interesting.

Dr. Jovel gives the best feedback and tremendously cares about her students. The work can be tedious at times, but she lays a blueprint that aids you to be successful in the class. The work is also to help for future exams. I'm not great at studying, so having her guidance really helped me perform my best in the class. I would 100% recommend her!

This class requires you to be independent and manage your own time. Each week, there were discussion board submissions due along with quizzes from the textbook. Dr. Jovel did include lectures for each chapter, but it was mostly self-study from the textbook. There are 2 5-page papers due and a few tests, but overall she gave clear expectations.

Prof. Jovel is really a kind Professor. She provides us two minute lectures about each weeks reading and is an easy grader. Lots of reading and EC given.

Dr. Jovel was like a Mama Bear/friend. She is always there and accommodating when something popped up for me towards the end of the semester. She gives great feedback and if you need to ask her a question she is always available via email. Her class is very organized. Super grateful I had her as a professor! It's a lot of reading and weekly tests which is typical for fully online classes. They're easy and VERY straightforward though. Grades essays easy and has a very, very clear criteria. TBH it's just a lot of memorizing but since you do it at your own pace it's fine. The Final was only like 5% of my grade which was awesome.

if you are going to take sociology 101. Please take this professor! I took her spring 2022 class async. She is a very caring and understanding person, she gives great instructions on assignments. The workload consists of 1 discussion post and quizzes every few weeks. 2 essays, she is not a tough grader and gives good feedback! TAKE HER!

I took Professor Jovel for Sociology. She was an awesome, sweet, amazing and caring professor. I get to know more about sociology as a discipline of social science and how it is important in our daily lives.I love taking Professor Jovel again. took Dr.Jovel for SOC 101 & 102 online. Both were great experiences. Weekly reading and quizzes on revel + discussion boards. It was all really easy though and the discussion boards were great for understanding the bigger picture. She accepts late assignments, gives good feedback, and is very compassionate/understanding. would recommend to anyone.

TAKE HER IN PERSON! the work load is less and she gives you exact lecture on what is there for exams. You also have no hw except for 2 non research papers, 3 exams w/ cheat sheet (no cumulative) and weekly pearson reading and quiz for which you have 3 tries. She takes late work upto 3 days after deadline.

Professor Jovel is a exceptional individual who genuinely cares about her students and wants them to prosper in the class. The workload is not bad at all. Take advantage of the office hours available to ask questions and feedback on writings. Possible extra credits as well!

very little hw, the revel can be pricy but all the quizzes are on quizlet :) her tests are very clear and only based on lecture w/ cheat sheet. Take her in person for less work as there is only 2 papers and 3 exams of 50 qs. she is very caring and is willing to always help. Easy grader

Dr Jovel was an AMAZING professor! She is super caring and understanding. There are weekly discussions with a quiz about the reading (Online textbook was about $80) 2 midterms with a final at the end, and 2 papers. She has mini lecture videos which are really clear to understand. I absolutely love her and wish there were more professors like her.

LOVED JOVEL! Her class was very easy to understand. Attendance isn't necessarily mandatory, but all the lectures are on the exams. Only 2 essays, weekly chapter quizzes, little to none homework, and 3 exams based on the chapters covered. Pretty easy course if you have an understanding of the basic concepts that are taught in class and if you don't procrastinate. Not procrastinating in homework is a very important tip if you want a good grade in this class. The professor is very helpful and the entire course and the work is very easy to understand and she gives amazing feedback

Highly recommend for any and all types of students. She gives extensions on homework, responds to email pretty fast, and overall a great teacher. Only gripe I can possibly say is that her final paper requires quite a bit of writing if you aren't too into that.

I took this class in the Winter Cybersession and man, I didn't regret it. This was a required GE course that I needed before transferring. Professor Jovel is an amazing professor who wants her students to succeed in this class by being very clear with the assignments & having a fair grading system. I highly recommend this professor for a GE course.

ONE OF THE BEST PROFESSORS EVER! Not only is her class very interesting and easy, she is also very caring! I am touched and inspired by her. She also gives a week long grace period with no penalty. Overall, very chill class. Choose her, it's a no brainer!

10/10 a sweetheart. I took her course online over the summer. It was an accelerated course about 4 weeks long. Since it was a quick class the assignments and duration between them ended up close to each other. BUT BRUH THIS HAS GOTTA BE THE EASIET CLASS. TAKE IT!! Easy A. Discussion boards, canvas quizzes & exams. One "long" paper.

Professor Jovel is amazing! Her class is engaging and easy, with flexible deadlines and helpful feedback. Unstuck AI plus the textbook make studying a breeze. Definitely take this class if you can!

Amazing professor.Took her for Soc. 101 and just took her again for Soc. 105 Would recommend taking sociology with her as a professor! Gives around 2 homework (one discussion one quiz) per week with a few more assignments on top every once in a while. Very easy to go through SUPER EASY A. Gives an essay once per class (to my belief) but easy topics

I absolutely adore Dr. Jovel. She's so kind and understanding. She's always very straightforward about what to expect on tests and papers. I cannot recommend her classes enough (she's also a very kind grader!).

Easy A. She's caring and accepts late work for a few days after the due date with no penalty. Class is composed of 1 discussion (300 words and reply of 7 sentences) and 1 quiz per week. There's two papers but its easy to get a 90 if you follow directions, if you don't follow all directions you'll get a 70. Easier than any class I took in HS dw.

Amazing professor. Super easygoing and flexible. I genuinely enjoyed her lectures since we discussed interesting topics. We worked on the final paper in small portions throughout the entire semester which made it super easy at the end. I genuinely enjoyed writing the paper since it was super interesting applying concepts from the textbook.

I cannot stress how amazing Professor Jovel really is. I took about three of her online classes and they were the easiest ever. Such an easy A+ in all the classes. She really really cares about her students and her discussion post and quizzes are so EASY- the discussion boards are usually a prompt and easy to write about and the quizzes are easy!!

Genuinely the best professor at Ohlone! She cares about her students and is always willing to help increase your grade. Cannot recommend her enough :)

Dr. Jovel is the sweetest professor ever! Her lectures are very interesting, fun, and engaging! I looked forward to class, and really enjoyed writing the papers (only two). If you simply put effort, you will get an A! Expectations are clearly laid out. If you take Dr. Jovel's class, you will have a good time.

Honestly the best professor I've had. She's super chill, always down to help, and grades fast and fair. The class is actually fun and not stressful at all. She explains things really well and makes everything make sense. If you want an easy A and a good time, take the class with her.

I had professor Jovel for cybersession and she is so kind and genuinely goes out of her way to help her students. You can turn in discussions and quizzes up to 2 days late for full credit. There is a film analysis paper due at the end, and I highly suggest do NOT wait till the last minute to do it. Definitely take her!!

Jennifer Jovel is an amazing professor. She gives a two-day extension to all assignments, and they are straight forward and easy to do. Her chapter quizzes have no time limit, and her mid terms give plenty of time to finish them. There is only one essay in the entire class, and I was able to finish it in three days for a perfect score.

I took the course online and it was very hands off; Dr. Jovel had a few videos uploaded on Canvas but the textbook was most of the material. The grading scale is very clear, and you will do fine as long as you follow it. You are guaranteed to get an A as long as you don't *massively* slack off (all submissions can be submitted late for full credit)

Professor Jovel is an amazing teacher. Her directions for the assignments are clear and she writes exactly what you need to include in your assignments. She is an easy grader and she gives two days to turn in late work. She is very attentive and will respond to your questions and clear any confusion when you email her. Overall a very good teacher.

The best!! Def get the textbook, it was only $9 and is a big portion of the class. There is one essay, my essay turned out to be 12 pages, I followed Dr. Jovel's super clear guidelines and got a great score.

Professor Jovel is great! I highly recommend her. It is an easy A. Homework is simple, you pretty much only have to worry about the two essays (film analysis and bibliography). They are long papers, mine were about 3000 words. I got A's on them.

I took this class in summer 2025 best class and the stuff was able to do and the teacher is the best at the work given and nothing was difficult so if take sociology take this professor during the summer for online class.

Dr. Jovel is an amazing professor! She explains concepts clearly, replies quickly to emails, and pays attention to details like citations. She's patient, encouraging, and gives second chances, making learning enjoyable. Highly recommend!

A really good professor. I have taken this professor for 3 courses. The work is easy, predictable, stress-free and available to get on top of at the beginning of each week. This is the professor you need to aim for for sociology if available. She's kind, cares about the subject she works in, and provides good feedback with easy grading.

Explains concepts well, homework doesn't take up too much time. I learned a lot in this class.

Her class was really great. She grades easily, and you can tell how much she enjoys talking about sociology. The discussions, quizzes, and exams given aren't bad. Just make sure you don't procrastinate on the essays. Although think of them like longer discussions, and you'll be fine. She also doesn't allow Grammarly.
