She played students against each other and kept comparing everyone's work with one favorite student
She quotes another professor the whole time. her online power points never match the ones in class. The podcasts are never available cause the network is always down. This is an interesting class but taught poorly, it's easy.
Teaches by using Dr. Allen's lesson plans; however, she does not have the same effect. The TAs for the class (Jamie and Pete) basically run the class and are EXTREMELY helpful and do all they can to help people. Class is an easy pass as long as you do the work, so really the professor does not matter.
I didn't work much with her but her TAs were awesome!
She was always full of smiles and ready to teach. I had her for a 8am class and she was always thanking us for being there. Her power points were helpful withthe lectures. I only wish that I would have had them during lecture not after. Mrs. Kidd and her TA's were very helpful withthe wikibook. I recommend her to everyone. Easy A!
She is an alright teacher. Tried to do discussions in class a lot. This class is tons of busy work though. Too bad all education majors have to take it!
The class was easy but very boring! teacher is OFTEN late to class.
She is not even worth it! She claimed that we were going to save money, but I lost more money on this class alone than any other! Her lectures are terrible and not only that she's ignorant when she does the diversity lesson. I say, take the time and go to the VABeach campus to take the other teacher. She's not worth it.
Took her class via teletechnet. Only had to attend 1st 4 classes, then the middterm and final. Had to listen to podcasts of lectures online, which weren't always worth listening to. TA's were great. Prof. allows quizes to be taken up to 10 times. The hardest part of class was all the hours put into writing and peer-reviewing class-created wikibook.
The class overall is extremely easy, it is all busy work. Lectures are incredibly boring and pointless. She posts everything online and overloads on extra credit. There is no text book, you write three articles and grade each other. Kidd seems nice, but she is a terrible teacher.
Maybe its just me, but I really enjoyed this class. I thought the lectures were interesting and thought-provoking. The work load is not too heavy, and I appreciated that each class was really like one big group discussion which created a nice environment to learn in.
A lot of tedious work. Otherwise, very easy. A lot of extra credit! Easy A!
Amazing teacher. There are no points deducted for late assignments. Apart from quizzes and tests, of course. The professor is nice and will always help you out with whatever problem you have. She is great and creates many thought-provoking classroom discussions.
She was very nice! Lots of busy work. TA's are awesome. Pretty easy if you stay on top of your work.
Dr. Kidd is very friendly and is very thought provoking in lectures. But you have to stay on top of all the work to pass. I thought the Wittie (where you make your own textbook) was rediculous, mainly peer review and grading. Sounds good in theory, but pointless in the end. TAs did most of work.
Class was fun, and Dr. Kidd was great, but the wikibook could have been better.
Great teacher, really good at encouraging discussion. Wikibook wasn't bad but could've been better.
Professor was often late: even to our in-class exams. She seemed to be reading a script & did not appear to have 1st-hand experience of ever being in a public school. Lots of busy work that did not relate to class. Overall I didn't learn anything from her "teaching". A total waste of time, even though the class was mandatory.
Professor was fair and even when pregnant during the semester she made most of the classes. The TAs make this course and were extremely available and helpful.
Please do not take this class online. She forgets about her online students and it makes the class nearly impossible to pass. Even if it is at 8am, just do it! She is nice though.
The class discussions are engaging most of the time, however, the amount of online work is borderline ridiculous. The "wikibook" assignments drove me insane.
The actually material is simple; however, there is SOO much busy work. It's actually ridiculous. The "wikibook" stinks and you wish for it to all be done! Can get a good grade, but A LOT of work for it.
Dr. Kidd is a very easy going and open minded teacher. She is highly educated and cares about each of her students. I would gladly take any class she taught and recommend her to all aspiring teachers. You will not regret her class =D
She always seems flustered. The class is full of busy work and the dreaded Wikibook. TONS and i mean TONS of extra credit!!! It's kinda ridiculously awesome! SHOW UP TO CLASS! She takes attendance every time and it is worth a LOT! She gets the class engaged in her lectures. Not a bad class.
She is a nice lady, but EXTREMELY disorganized. She never has anything posted in a timely manner. Half the things we were supposed to use were never posted or working at the time the assignment was given. TONS of little projects. Her disorganization on everything drove me insane. If you like clear directions, don't take her class. She's a mess.
There is a lot of work associated with this class, but keep in mind it is to your benefit. The class is designed to prepare the student to make their own assessments for their future students. She really wants the best for her students and is really helpful and understanding.
This was not a hard class to pass becuase there was a ton of extra credit. I liked the instructor. She/TAs responded fairly quick to emails. I enjoyed the dicussions. The WITTIE book was the part I didn't like. I get the idea of enaging students in their own instruction, but the WITTIE book could be very frustrating.
Just pay attention to deadlines and point system.
Dr. Kidd is nice, but there is an insane amount of busy work. The wittie book is extremely frustrating, and then the digital reflection was a bit ridiculous. Mountains of extra credit available, I would suggest doing that. Rose my average over 20+ points in the span of 3 weeks. No joke.
Dr. Kidd is exceptionally knowledgeable, and I loved everything about the class discussions. She is passionate about teaching and I learned a lot from her. Keep up with the assignments, go to class, and you will be fine. Her class has opened my eyes to things I had never thought of before.
Not my favorite. Yes, it is a very easy A, but I learned very little. We spent almost 2 months on diversity in the classroom, which is ridiculous for an overview of teaching class. I would rather take this with a more difficult prof and learn more.
As long as you show up and pay attention there is no reason you won't do well in this class. She provides many extra credit opportunities. I ended up having a 116 in the class. There is a lot of work but since there is no textbook the work takes the place of the chapters you might be reading otherwise. I enjoyed the class and she was very nice.
Amazing Professor! One of the best I've had! Incorporates the student's opinions. She doesn't just stand there and talk. We created our own textbook online and honestly, that helped me learn more than you think it would! I HIGHLY recommend this professor!
This teacher is highly knowledgeable, but be warned. If taking this course online you will drop it. The class requires a minimal of 12 hours a week in class work and there are a lot of tedious and useless assignments. The exams are extremely difficult due to layout and concept.
Class not helpful for teaching degree. Frustrating b/c demand of HW assignments.Need to be familiar with mixed media to do well. Grades not given back in timely manner, online class assignments & in-class homework posted together made assignments confusing.Wikibook was frustrating! Attending each class & note-taking helps for exams.not gr8 teacher
Easiest class I have ever taken. A lot of work but all assignments were basically opinion based so there was no wrong answer. TONS of extra credit. I had over 100% for most of the semester. She is obsessed w/ class participation & making sure everyone knows everyone, so be prepared to talk
This is not an easy class. There is an unnecessary amount of technology used. I understand that technology can be useful, but in the case of this class, there was too much. It bogged down the actual content of the class. If technology is your thing though, go for it. She has tons of extra credit, which is very considerate.
Dr. Kidd is awesome! She's passionate about what she teaches and extremely knowledgeable. 301 is a lot of work, but it's none of it is too difficult and there is a ton of extra credit! A lot of it is technology involved, which I was worried about since I'm not very tech savvy, but it was fine. Take this class!
Very sweet lady. Loved her and the class discussions but not a fan of the assignments. The wikibook is a pain and there's so much homework due every week. However she gives tons of extra credit and the midterm and final comes straight form the weekly extra practice quizzes. It's pretty easy if you pace yourself and don't procrastinate.
She is a easy teacher to an extent. Offers so much extra credit only to make up for the not so good grades you'll receive on assignments. She isn't clear on whats due and whats not, and her blackboard is extremely unorganized and makes it hard to figure out where to submit things. Everything is just a cluster.
Mrs. Kidd is awesome! She is very proud of what she does and wants to see her students succeed. She's a bit scattered and disorganized when it comes to blackboard and other internet usage, but she usually will make exceptions if say your computer crashes or whatever. She is very engaging and keeps the class focused during her lectures.
This class was such a headache. I enjoyed the lectures but the work is ridiculous. It wasn't difficult but everything was so unorganized. I was never sure if I was doing an assignment correctly or not. It took me longer to figure out how to do an assignment than to actually do it.
Dr. Kidd made this class way more difficult than it needed to be. The work itself wasn't hard once I figured out what I actually needed to do. She's very passionate in her lectures but extremely unorganized it stressed me out so much. Offers a ton of extra credit, takes forever to grade, and I felt that I always had to chase her down when needed.
This class has a lot of work! All assignments are online and you have 10 things due on one night sometimes. She is really nice and helpful but I feel like some of the assignments have nothing to do with teaching. You don't have a text book the students write a textbook. I would look for a different teacher
Class requires a lot of work and use of technology, she is unorganized, unclear, and her assignments are all over the place, she takes forever to grade and email you back (if she even does). dont miss class because at the end of the semester she takes off 25 points for each absence she does have a lot of extra credit opportunities though
Course load is quite hectic, she makes you write and research the textbook. She then does not go over the material and instead spends the majority of the class on the diversity section. She has an obvious soapbox and expects us to teach ourselves. Take a different teacher.
STAY AWAY IF AT ALL POSSIBLE!! This class is way more than what was expected, close to 5 assignments due in one night; EVERYTHING and when I say everything is done ONLINE. Attendance is mandatory you will learn at the end of the semester. Has nothing to do with your observation; Kidd made the class a lot harder and tedious than it needed to be.
There are over 2,000 points worth of assignments by the end of the semester that had to be done. I spent 6+ hours on an assignment to receive a 60. Everything is done online and I didn't really see the point in the class overall. I learned a few things that will help me in the future, but not very much. Tests are VERY hard.
The first half of the class is a lot of tedious work that ends in the class creating their own textbook. I learned a lot of technology which will be helpful. Diversity takes WAY too much of the course. Learned more from my observation. Easy but tons of work with a lot of extra credit opportunities. Finished with over 100%
This class, TLED 301, was the worst class I've ever taken. It's a regular class when you sign up for it, but it is actually 95% online. Class only meets 4 times in the beginning. There's way too much work. Plus observations are required. I don't recommend it.
Mrs. Kidd is really helpful to everyone is interesting to learn. There are too much homework, but in the end you finish this class with an excellent knowledge for yourself future benefit. She is one of the best teacher I met at ODU. She is a great human being! I will take her without doubt in another course! thanks a lot, Mrs. Kidd!!
Dr. Kidd is one of the best teachers I've had at ODU. She is SOOO helpful. This class requires a lot of work, but there are ZERO tests. Only projects and assignments you put in an online portfolio. I learned so many things I can use in my teaching career that I never would've known. She's a great teacher and I'll try to take her for as many classes
She has been there and done that so all of the information she provides comes from years of experience. She is extremely helpful and understanding. You have several opportunities to make up assignments or get extra credit. There is a lot of work that is very tedious, so it takes some time to complete assignments. Don't take this with TLED 430.
Do not take this class online. I did it by mistake and I stress so much every week about the amount of assignments I have to complete. If this is your only class then you will do great but if not you will fine.
I have taken Dr. Kidd for two classes: one online and one face-to-face. I enjoy her teaching style and if you're willing to work and show up to class, you will do fine. As with most things, you will get out of the class what you put into it.
She is a great teacher, but you have to be in class to understand the material. There is alot of work outside of the classroom on top of your observation so just make sure you stay on top of it to get it done.
Absolutely unhelpful and not applicable to anything outside of the class. So much work, like 6 assignments due on 1 night. She doesn't grade the work she assigns, the TA does. She doesn't do anything except offend people during lectures in class. Everything is online, but attendance is mandatory, which she does not tell you.
There is a TON of work due for this class, make sure you have a lot of free time to do so! The grading is very generous, and there are a ton of extra credit opportunities. Also, most late work is accepted for full credit. If you're open minded about her discussions, you will take a lot from her class, even though I didn't realize it til the end
I loved Dr. Kidd last semester! Her teaching style is different but you get used to it. I learned A LOT from her. No text book. She does assign a lot of work, but she gives very simple, CLEAR directions and guides you through everything to make it super easy. I ended up with over 100%. FOLLOW DIRECTIONS & go to class! it's a fun & easy A.
Really liked teaching and lectures, but felt lost the entire time. Tons of complicated technology, assignments are completed and submitted in many different online avenues. You need to be VERY familiar with technology to feel like you aren't drowning in this class. Just felt like the tech should be toned down a bit and given more clarity.
Felt lost the entire time. Class was made way more complicated than necessary by all sorts of unfamiliar technology. Kidd gave funny, interesting lectures and was very inspirational as an educator but I withdrew. I was drowning in all the different avenues of technology and lack of clarity with any of it.
I was novice when it comes to technology, I don't even have a smart phone, but she walks you through step-by-step with printed instructions-some with pictures even. Totally doable! She gives tons of extra credit, easy things like watch a movie and write about it in a 1-2 page paper. Yes, there's a ton online but any high schooler could do it.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! Easily the worst teacher I have ever had. This is an introduction to education class but yet I learned absolutely nothing about becoming a teacher. The whole class was about race and she was very opinionated and would argue with you about it. Class is an easy A as long as you do all the homework. Not worth it though.
When I first entered this class, I was a bit overwhelmed by the work load. As long as you keep up with the assignments, you will get a good grade. Attendance is mandatory and you should want to attend, b/c Dr. Kidd gives really great and animated lectures. I learned so much from her class and would definitely take a class with her again.
Dr. Kidd is amazing. She's extremely helpful and understanding. As long as you do your work, and put effort into it, you will get an A. If your looking for a class that you only need to be present in and get an A this is not the class for you. There is a lot of work but I thought it was fun. Do not take with TLED 432, too much work.
Learned nothing about teaching, assessment, etc. She uses this class as a platform to force students to push her Race Agenda. She preaches about timely feedback but took forever to grade anything. I emailed her numerous times and she only responded once. Tons of extra credit, can easily pass the class with just that. Lots of reading & hard tests.
This class is super easy if you just do the work (which isn't hard). Dr. Kidd is an awesome teacher who is always there to help you when needed and is extremely reasonable with things. Gives a ton of Extra Credit so super hard to fail the class unless you try to. Best part about this class is definitely not having to buy a textbook.
I don't know why so many students hate her class. Although the work load is heavy, it's all related to your major so it's interesting and is not hard to complete. I only ran into some issues with her when she started on with the whole race thing but other than that, this class was amazing and I learned a lot.
Easily one of the best teachers at ODU. If you don't take her at least once you will regret it. She does have a lot of work, but everything has a reason behind it. The project are pretty cool so good luck with them!
Dr. Kidd is a great teacher for 301. She gives a lot of work, but if you go to her office hours she is super helpful in explaining things. She does take a while to answer emails, but her office is always open. She is very approachable. Dr. Kidd offers a lot of extra credit. Don't take if your course load is 18 credits or more I Passed with an A.
Dr. Kidd does have an agenda, but if you can look past that then she's a great teacher. There so much extra credit that you actually have to try to fail. The work is not hard, theres just a lot of it. Study hard for the midterm and final because they are difficult.
This is class is on autopilot, only 3 meetings and then you get prerecorded lectures that are reused semester after semester. Assignments are graded by peer review, not the prof. and not given in a timely manner. Response time is SLOW. Most grades come the last day of class or later. Nothing about teaching, everything about race relations.
Ridiculous amount of assignments that are all submitted in different ways. A lot of work and you must be tech savvy. Didn't learn anything about teaching students to read or add. Did learn about race in the US. This is more of a sociology class, not really helpful. Feedback is sparce and grades are not given in a timely manner. You will feel lost.
It's very obvious that Dr. Kidd is passionate about teaching! This course is very project based heavy, but as long as you pay attention to the due dates in the detailed schedule she provides, there's no reason you won't succeed. Many opportunities for extra credit!
Dr. Kidd is very passionate about teaching! There are a lot of assignments and projects, but they are all beneficial. I learned so much in her class.
I love Professor Kidd. I had her for Spring 2018 and she made every lecture fun/ interesting. All assignments/ tests are on BB. She gives A LOT of extra credit opportunities. The assignments are very easy, it is just time consuming. Just for taking the time to do E.C. has allowed my overall grade to never be below a 100. DO THE EXTRA CREDIT!!!
I've had Dr. Kidd twice! She is extremely knowledgeable w/ experience in teaching all over the world. She consistently looks for hands-on activities. This semester she organized an after-school club for 5th & 6th graders; we were able to practice teaching multiple times using real SOLs and incorporating robotics! Expected a lot because of that.
This class was unbelievably work heavy. Two things that I found positive about this class is how easy it was to get in contact with her and that she would allow students to revise assignments. This class was honestly rather confusing, and there were many challenging assignments each week, some of which could take up to eight hours or more.
She assigns probably 100 small assignments that are complete busy work and a waste of time- but if you're late or don't do them you won't pass. If you don't go to class, you won't pass- even though class is kind of pointless. I wouldn't recommend her unless you want tons of busy work and confusing assignment submissions
Dr. Kidd is a solid choice! She is very nice and very knowledgeable. I took this class online. There is quite a bit of busy work but there is a lot to learn from it. Also, a lot of extra credit, you will have to try to not get an A.
dr kidd is amazing. there was a good amount of work, but its all beneficial. i learned a lot in her class. she wants you to succeed. theres a lot of extra credit, but if you turn in quality work you can get an A without it.
Dr. Kidd is a fabulous professor! There are many assignments throughout the semester, but the instructions are simple. Two main projects: engineering lessons and wikibook lessons, two tests (midterm and final) both ONLINE, peer review is big in this class as well as extra credit. 30 observation hours needed to pass. I recommend Dr. Kidd!
Lots's of homework, but all helpful. Is willing to talk with you. Helps make the class engaging so it's not just listening.
I've had Dr. Kidd twice! She is a super knowledgable teacher. Just know that this is not a standard class, She organizes an after-school club for 5th & 6th graders; we were able to practice teaching multiple times using real SOLs and incorporating robotics! It was a lot of work but we learned a lot and it was so fun. Just know its not a reg. class
This class had probably 100 assignments. It's a little much for a college level course. I felt like I was doing a lot of busy work. She is very kind, but you must attend class or you fail- even if its at 8 am :) You will do group work and most likely have teaching opportunities with kids which is cool. SO many assignments though so get ready
My biggest issue is that she needs to clarify on on how assignments should be done, where they should be done and how they should be submitted; She needs to communicate more effectively especially considered how the engineering project is a huge part of the class and that's where most of the problems arose
Good professor, A lot of work. The only thing that sucks is the electronic use she gives out like 6 different websites that you have to summit everything to 6 different times and we do a big engineering project WE ARE IN A EDUCATION CLASS NOT ENGINEERING. so its annoying that we have to pay to learn engineering.
Dr. Kidd is a great professor! It is very evident that she cares deeply about her subject matter and preparing her students for what they will face in today's classrooms, including technology! There are a lot of little assignments, but they all build up to our own online textbook (super cool and no need to buy one!). A lot of EC to help catch up
She was an awesome professor & I genuinely feel that I learned a lot from her class. My suggestion is if you are someone who doesn't do well with a full plate (a lot of classes and homework), take her class with a lighter schedule. I did & I was able to really focus on the work. She's very caring & is very easy to understand.
Prof Kidd is a nice, caring professor. I did learn a lot from taking her class. However, be prepared to stay on top of your assignments. There are lots of little assignments due on multiple platforms/websites so you have to stay on top of things! Overall, not a bad class.
Dr. Kidd's nice & passionate, gives interesting lectures, & always replies to e-mails. My biggest issue was the amount of HW: sometimes 5 assignments due every week, plus a ton of readings, (sometimes 3+ assigns. due in one day!) w/ a long engineering group project in the background. Level of HW is unrealistic and lots of assignments are busy work.
It felt so backwards So much of the work was meant to be done outside of the classroom and even though there's MOUNTAINS of work to be done, you never feel like it's helpful for teaching you education principles. Prepare to complete several tedious assignments and engage in a class where there feels like there's no clear answer to any question
Dr. Kidds class is challenging in a great way. Theres a lot of technology use (but she tells you this before the class even starts!). She gives thought-provoking lectures backed by stats, lots of HW but TONS of EC (in case you miss an HW assignment), and she lets you REVISE HW online!! Not an easy A but your teaching and tech skills will improve.
Dr. Kidd is a great professor! She gives a clear overview of what the course will consist of and lets you know when assignments are due ahead of time. She can be a bit unorganized and last minute. She is great communicating with her students and is very lenient! However, assignments are time consuming! You must have time management!
DO THE EXTRA CREDIT. It will save you if you suck at taking exams & project work. There is a LOT of work to do for the online class as you only meet 3 times. So if you dont learn well going it alone or dont have the discipline, do NOT take the online class! Dr Kidd is very knowledgeable, kind and understanding. She also responds quickly to emails
Dr. Kidd is one of the best professors I've ever had. The course load can be hefty but she is more than willing to go above and beyond to help any and all of her students. Seriously, this lady is awesome! I personally love all of the engineering opportunities we get because it lets us work with other majors and become better teachers. 10/10
With the pandemic going on, there was way too much all at once! 3 different projects plus course homework and the teaching observation hours on top of that. When I had a family emergency, it felt like it was all left to me, just like 'well, that sucks, have fun!'. This class has been the most stressful course I've ever taken at ODU.
ODU is extremely lucky to have Dr. Kidd. She is passionate, understanding, and actually challenges her students. If you're up for a highly rewarding challenge that pushes you out of your comfort zone, I recommend her class.
This professor and class was great. It was a bit stressful at times, especially if I fell behind. But if you work ahead and try your best, you're bound to do well. She kept me awake in an 8 a.m. class, which is almost impossible. You do a lot of group collaboration, so get ready to share your opinion, personal background and content you create.
In this class we have to create our own textbook and it is tedious and honestly, not effective. Her TA's usually grade the work, and she doesn't respond to emails like ever. The assignments are all over the place and not just in modules, it's hard to find what is due. She does give SO much extra credit, which is nice.
I had her online class so maybe the experience was different for her in person students, but I found it impossible to contact her. After the four virtual lectures, you're practically flying solo. Most of the class is writing a textbook which I found interesting but more busy work than anything. Not the most enjoyable experience :(
Dr.Kidd is a great professor and the course is fairly simple. She does offer extra credit which is a plus, and you have four days that you can miss for attendance but it is mandatory. I think this class is fairly easy she explains and goes over what is expected for assignments.
I like that it felt like I was in this class to learn, not just write papers. Dr. Kidd is wonderful.
Professor Kidd's class can be demanding, but engaging. The workload is heavy, but the extra credit opportunities help. Unstuckstudy proved useful for staying on top of assignments. Overall, a rewarding experience if you're willing to put in the effort.
Professor Kidd is very knowledgeable and able to explain things easily. She is passionate about teaching and the content was very applicable in the career world.
