Way Too hard and a lot of busy work.
I think she's a great teacher. She understands if you have to miss a day or two if it's an emergency and she will work with you to help you catch back up. And, unlike most teachers, she has personality.
Works with you if you need extra time of if your away for a week or so. The class is somewhat unclear. I don't really know if this is the teachers fault or just the DLP class itself. Over all she is a good teacher but makes you a lot of busy work.
Awesome teacher and easy (I'm very good at English). Pretty too.
I think Jennifer is extremely accomodating. She enjoys her subject and is non-judgemental of those who may not enjoy it as much; she simply tries to interest everyone. She offers a lot of extra credit and her tests and quizzes are easy if you do the reading.
I took this Distance. The class was unorganized, you felt you are always lost in what on earth is going on, a lot of work. I felt at times that I needed to take this class all by itself to keep up. Nice teacher, but that is not always the most important.
Helpful, fun & easy to talk to. She's also darn sexy.
DO NOT TAKE DISTANCE. There is SOO much work, only take distance if you have ALL Week to do the work... but if not, your other classes will definetely suffer. You have 6 reading logs, discussion boards,5 written projects, reading on top of that, consider it impossible!! Urr.. I will never take her again.
She is very nice and helpful. However, do not take her distance learning. The workload isn't bad, but I'm still waiting for her to grade a test that the class took over a month ago along with a reading log that was due three weeks ago and a paper that was turned in two months ago. Also, sometimes she forgets to post the tests or assignment folder
Jennifer Kurtz is one of the coolest professors at this school. That said, her distance learning class borders on impossible for those of us who have lives outside of school. Personally, I finished with a "B" but it was the most difficult class I have ever taken. Based on other reviews, I wish I had been able to take her class on campus.
Pretty easy class, if you're dedicated in reading, in which there is a LOT of. Read stuff, write down a quote or question, explain why you chose it, discuss it in class, write the reading logs and other writing assignments, take the test. Just make sure you actually participate in the discussion some. And dont get behind!
If you are looking for an easy "A" this is NOT the teacher for you. If you are looking for a teacher who will actually teach and hold you accountable - this is your woman! I have learned so much and become a much better writer since taking her class. Slackers will drown in this class!
I like her. She makes you learn. Which I am going to college to learn and not to just mess around! She does have a lot of work but that makes it easier to get a better grade in her class. She gives you extra time and PLENTY of extra credit! I this semester i had almost 80 extra credit points.
Her class is the BEST! She acts like a normal person in class, which really helps keep the class interested. READ! It's a Lit. class, and OH BUDDY! you had better read or your sunk! Her tests are easy if you read. Take her class, you'll have a great time.
she is great, a lot of work, she will keep you busy. if you do your work on time and just study for you tests you will be fine. and she is really HOT !!!!!!!!
read and you will do fine
Awesome teacher. It's literature and there is a simple process. Read, talk about it, take the test. If you don't come to class, you will miss something that is going to be on the test. That's the cool part about lecture, it lets you know stuff you don't learn by reading the book. Awesome teacher, it's a shame she is only teaching online next time.
She is very helpful in checking your essay before turn it in..........
Read, do the work. It's the same as 241, just new literature. I took this online and I do miss the talks. The DB is hilarious though. Great class.
Mrs Kurtz is very nice and helpful but just beware of the Lit classes. I took both 141 and 142 online and it is never ending reading CONSTANTLY. english 241 took up more of my time than my alegbra 2, bio and french class. It wasnt terrible, but if you dont like to read dont take this class!
I took this class online in Spring. I like writing essays and have never had any teacher complain about them. Well, every time I turned in one she gave me a C no matter what I did. I think she is a hard teacher to work with. I will never take her again for any class. Just beware before you take her!
She's nice but she grades tough. I think as hard as I worked, I should have at least gotten a B, because I'd always gotten As in English before this class.
I HATE writing and was DREADING her class! It was a tough class to take. I took the condensed 8 week class in the Spring and wrote 4 or 5 essays. What I did come out of that class with was, a lot of knowledge about writing and self-confidence! I think she is GREAT! She presses you to be better! :-)
I love Ms. Kurtz! I had her for Eng 111 distance and she's great! Any question you have, she'll answer quickly and she is very helpful. The class is a bit tough, but if you keep the schedule in mind and work hard, you?ll do fine. Take this teacher if you want to actually learn something about writing; you'll come out of this class a better writer.
Kurtz is a fantastic English teacher. This is coming from an English major that wishes to teach the subject. She is a fair evaluator, respects her students, cares for the subject, and promotes discussion; no one can wish for more from an English professor. Do not hesitate to sign up for her over others.
Ms. Kutrz, is a great professor .Loves helping students. I found as a returning student, she was very helpful. You must place an effort in this class. Should you take responsibility and place effect into this class you will pass. Do the work, complete the extra credit, study for the tests and you could walk away with an ?A?. Enjoyed her Class. Tak
there's so much i want to say about her, i'm gonna split my rating into two parts. anyways, she's very nice as everyone says, very approachable, and knowledgeable. her classes are usually just discussions of the literature people were supposed to read along with an occasional 5question quiz with bonus questions. end of part 1.
part 2 of my review. her tests also are rather easy just as long as you study and read them. they consist of 15-20 fill in the blanks, 3-5 short answer questions, and 1-2 essay questions. the best part about doing these tests is you can chose which questions you want to answers. just be sure that the questions you answer add up to 100 points.
Got a 100 on every test and I hate reading!! Don't have to study as long as you do the reading. This class is all about reading and writing. Very Very Very easy!!!! (IF you do the reading) Indian/New Colony reading is the hardest part. You can skip questions on test as long as you answer 100 points total.
First off... I hate English. I failed my senior year of high school. Mrs. Kurtz is absolutely an amazing professor and I would love to had taken another one of her classes! She has a way of keeping you on track. When others have a way pf correcting you by bad comments, she draws you in and corrects you with happy and positive comments.
Best English teacher I have ever had! She is so nice, and willing to help outside of class. English is one of my least favorite subjects but she made it interesting and fun.
Very special teacher. Kind, patient, and generous in her teaching. Very clear in what she conveys, and show passion in her teaching.
She is such person and totally understanding. That being said, she is strict on grading, so always try your best on everything you write in her class. I can tell she wants her students to do well and shes very interested in her job and classes. She is very helpful. Her class is not an easy A, but you can easily achieve one if you DO THE READING!
Professor Kurtz has a great sense of humor in dealing with all of the first semester freshmen in her class, despite their ages ranging from 18 (or even younger) to adults in their thirties or forties. Doesn't have any point structure for grammar errors (such as comma splices), and her grading was a bit more subjective (appropriate for English?).
I LOVE mrs. kurtz. I will be taking her for my 4th semester. English 101, 102, 141, and 142. She is super easy to get along with and VERY lenient with grades and due dates. Take her. highly recommended
The work load she gives out isn't that much but her clarity on what she wants done is not clear. She has a nice sense of humor, but not very competent in her clarity.
If your taking 112, dont take it online! Mrs Kurtz is a very helpful and knowledgeable teacher but the workload for online Eng 112 was insane.I was chained to my computer all semester it felt like, the work seemed to never end.I dont think it would be as bad in class so great teacher but def dont do online 112.
Mrs. Kurtz is a great professor. She makes English fun, or at least bearable. She is always available to help you, and will specifically show you what you need to work on, IF you take the time to go to her office and talk to her. Always do the readings, because she gives a quiz on almost every reading. I highly recommend her!
I took this online and found it fairly challenging at first. However, once you get used to her system it is really easy. This class does require that you keep up with readings because you'll be quizzed on them every 23 weeks. She provides great feedback on work. Just be sure to not get behind because the work can start to pile up.
A very understanding teacher. She tries very hard to make sure she covers a WIDE variety of subjects with her readings to make sure everyone gets a chance to read something they care about. My only problem is that she is VERY unorganized. It takes her forever to grade things and NEVER posts grades online.
Had her for both Eng. 111 & 112. Excellent teacher, organized, friendly, & will bend over backwards to help students. If you show that you are willing to work, go see her during office hours (espec. for feedback on essay drafts), & take an interestparticipate intelligently in class, you will have an awesome experience & come out a better writer.
She's a nice lady, but she could definitely use some improvement on clarity of assignments and updating grades. It took a little bit for me to get my grades updated, and I couldn't really figure out what steps I needed to take during the class to improve more. If you're easily offended some topics are pretty offensive in the reading.
Harsh grader, very little help, seems very opinionated in the way she grades and teaches. Never done poorly in an English class, something is different about her class than a standard class. Dropping to take another class the next semester.
She ruined English for me forever. No matter what I did I couldn't get more than a C and I used to be an A student. You literally have to read 15 hours worth of work each week, along with having to write 8 reading logs, 5 essays, 5 discussion boards with 14 responses each, 1-3 quizzes every week, and 2 tests/month. Final is comprehensive. STAY AWAY
Very cool teacher, but bad organization skills. LOTS of reading and assignments- and she's very terrible at blackboard. If you do your reading, class discussion is pretty fun and she tries her best to pick interesting reading material. Weird test grading... If you wanna pass with a B or higher, you have to be in class.
Great teacher but is terrible at getting grades back to you
She's very nice, considerate, and helpful, but HORRIBLE with Blackboard. She rarely updates grades, and when she does, hardly anything is plugged in. That's the biggest killer in her class - I would like to know my grade at some point in the semester, NOT by the end of the semester!
She is a nice teacher, I just hate writing/reading and she requires a lot of book readings and writings about the readings you did for homework the next day at the beginning of class. She is lenient when it comes to grading the assigned writings, but with the essays and research papers it is strict. She herself is really nice and understanding.
She's an excellent teacher. Assignments were fun but I only got a few assignments back before the very end of the semester. I was nervous that I wouldn't be able to make higher than a B because I didn't know how I was doing on any of the assignments, But I did well. LOTS OF READING. If you don't receive feedback on something go to her office & ask
Its a literature class people! You have to read the text to pass. She is a great teacher, cares about the students. She will give extensions if people need them, and she makes herself available all the time if you need help. Take notes, read the texts, go to class and you will have an A.
She is very helpful with the papers. There are four essays all together. She is a fun teacher and loves to interact with the class
Ms. Kurtz was very helpful and I learned a lot in her class. She was great in giving advice for my essays. She assigned a lot of things, but she did this so we weren't trying to accomplish everything at the last second. She did assign a lot of readings that had offensive stuff in them. She also used foul language at times in class.
Mrs. Kurtz is by far my favorite professor I've had so far in my educational career! She's very caring and gives a lot of feedback on your papers. Class is very discussion-based surrounding your readings, which was my favorite part! If you participate in the conversations, you'll get the most out of it. I highly recommend taking her class!
Mrs. Kurtz is nice but you still have to write really good essays to pass her class.
Mrs. Kurtz is the best professor I have had at Western! I was lucky enough to have her my first semester and took her for all my English classes and SDV after that! She knows the material so well and cares so much about her students. You have to work for your grade, but if you're looking for the perfect professor- 10/10 take Jenifer Kurtz!
Took Prof. Kurtz 4 ENG 111 & 112. Don't know what changed between these 2 courses (except the book we had 2 read), but in ENG 112 90% of the readings we had 2 read were very vulgar & offensive/had profanity & topics too inappropriate 2 list here. Sadly, Prof. Kurtz elaborated on these topics in class. Wished this class was more focused on ENG.
Jennifer is such a great teacher! I'm taking her again for ENG 112 and I would highly recommend! She was very clear on what needed to happen to pass and explained everything very well! By far my favorite teacher!
Read a lot for homework but is never busy work. Nothing to buy except a notebook if you don't like using your computer. Super sweet and understanding difficult situations/work confliction.
Professor Kurtz is a perfect example of what a English professor should be like. She is very funny, caring, and intelligent. There are four total essays to be written and she clearly states what she expects from each one. She is not a harsh grader and gives you very good feedback on your essays. Do the assignments and read everything to easily pass
ENG 241 2 essays-1 presentation-4 reading logs-3 tests-other assigned readings/writings. Final Exam3rd test/isn't cumulative. Tests r easy, she has more Q's than u need 2 answer on the tests. Does pop quizzes if people aren't reading. She is kind/willing 2 help if asked, but u have 2 work 4 your grade. She has book online if u don't want 2 buy it
Mrs. Kurtz was a really good professor. She gave helpful, detailed feedback on the essays. I also really liked the pieces that we had to read and write about. The actual class was fun, and the discussions that we had were really interesting.
Prof. Kurtz-kind/willing 2 help, especially w/ essays. Engages w/ her class. Course2 essays, 4 reading logs, 3 tests (final exam test #3), readings, assigned writings. Used textbook + 2 novels. Some readings, especially the novels, were very offensive + repulsive. Needs 2 be @ least some guidelines as 2 what we're required 2 read 4 this course.
She insisted I change MY belief in MY belief essay to something positive over a negative subject. 3 weeks or more to grade essays, never explaining or showing what you did incorrectly so as to not repeat the same mistakes. Not helpful. Contradicts herself. Examples of essays to read vary greatly per subject, very confusing. Don't take online w/ her
Jennifer is good professor but VERY tough essay grader. If you seek her she will happily help but isn't very specific on what she wants in class. She takes forever to grade any assignments.
I took Kurtz for both 241 and 242. Easily my favorite professor at Western. As long as you're a good participant and listener in class during discussion on the reading, you usually don't even have to read. Awesome person, really entertaining. Is a little slow to grade, but not really a big deal. Easy to work with if you need extra credit or help.
Good teacher, tough grader. Dont expect to get As on essays, she says herself to proofread and see if you have a high B low b or under a B. Gives good extra credit and partial credit on tests.
I loved her but she can be tough sometimes. She was very honest and will help you out if you asked for help. I had her for English111 and 112; she was amazing. Just do your homework and read the literature. She also understands if something pops up. Just keep pushing!
She is very motivated about what she teaches. She does assigns a lot of work outside class and expects it to be done the morning before her lecture whenever you decide to take it. She gives you an online textbook, which saves money, but she does use it quite a lot. Her tests are not that hard, papers a little difficult, and sometimes pop quizzes.
Great teacher
Honestly Jennifer is such a great professor. Shes probably one of my favorites! Ive taken her twice thus far and Ive had no issues with her. Shes very understanding and truly wants to help you succeed. However, you have to put in some sort effort for her to be willing to help you.
I took her for my ENG 111, ENG 112, and my ENG lit 241 class. She is the best professor I have ever had. She is very upfront with her grading material and she always offers extra help outside of class. She was my favorite teacher! Definitely recommend taking her for every English class that you can.
I am not sure what Professor Kurt thinks she does, but taking an ENG 111 course should not feel like you're getting a masters in English for one semester. Ridiculous amount of work. She does NOT grade in a timely fashion. You could be writing an essay on a topic she will not even approve of until after you have written it. Do not expect an A.
She is a great professor, and if you fail this class, its your fault. She makes it easy to understand what she wants, and its never anything insanely tricky. Just do your work and you do great.
Mrs. Kurtz is an amazing professor. You have to work for your grade, but it feels great in the end. She provides amazing feedback on essays and submissions. Extra credit opportunities come later in the semester and often make the student apply what we have done (or are learning) outside. Mrs. Kurtz has made me a better writer.
This is my second class with Kurtz and honestly, I wish every professor could be like her. She is absolutely wonderful. If you need help, she will go above and beyond to help. This class requires a lot of reading, but I just found audio books of the readings and read along with them. It made that a lot easier. I highly recommend Mrs. Kurtz!
Prof. Kurtz is a friendly, smart person. If you want to really understand literature and absorb information on how writing works, you *will* learn it in this class. Her classwork is useful, save everything as it will all be useful on the test. Kurtz is easy to get a hold of via email, and will help you when you ask. Work hard get an A!
This was the worst class I had ever taken. She's strict about what she wants. She only wants it her way and she will criticize and give you a bad grade and not help you. She was particular harsh on work you submitted. When you expected positive feedback she made you feel stupid and terrible. Stay away from her class. She's mean right to your face.
I liked Professor Kurtz although her class work was never posted in a timely manner. She would expect things to be read and the assignment be done in about a day. Her reading assignments are very long and accompanied by a lengthy assignment. She doesnt grade in a timely manner and I often found myself without feedback. But, easy to reach outside
Kurtz was a good teacher. She provides weekly outlines for readings and assignments, which I found very helpful. She always leaves notes and feedback on assignments. The readings are usually easy. The lectures are usually spent discussing readings and assignments as a class, which is helpful.
this class definitely has lots of homework, but it’s mostly just reading and it’s nothing too difficult. if you don’t read the textbook, you will not pass the class. it’s easy to get an A as long as you do the work. the only think i don’t like about the professor is she does take a very long time to grade.
Professor Kurtz is awesome! I took her for ENG 111, 112, and 241. She is by far my favorite professor at VWCC. There are a lot of readings, and each class I took there were 3-4 papers due in the semester. She cares for her students and gives you class time to work on Essays. She is very understanding, and gives great feedback on all assignments
Ms. Kurtz cares about class discussion, which makes class all the more interesting, I've taken her for all of my ENG classes, She is my favorite. The writing assignments for what we read are straightforward. There are two tests in total, one midterm and one final (which is not cumulative) along with two essays, not research based. Fun, easy class.
Professor Kurtz was overall a great professor. There is a lot of writing and reading, but it is very manageable if you put in the work. I felt like this class was pretty rewarding even though it can be tough at times. I definitely recommend taking your English classes with Professor Kurtz.
She was not helpful in anyway, and I did not improve my writing in her class. A very tough grader.
Lost one of my paper assignments and I had to write it all over again. Asked us to purchase a book that we did not use for the class, and all its material was available online for free. Doesn't let us do assignments in class, and gives it all for homework.
Professor Kurtz is an extremely intelligent teacher and goes above and beyond to help her students. However.... this class was hard, it took a lot of time, lots of reading and you have to put a lot of effort into your graded assignments. On the other hand, this class taught me so much and you WILL learn so much, it was worth the hard work.
