Hard class most people failed the tests.
She starts the semester off trying to make students feel they are in elementry school by assiging seats. However, this actually allows her to lecture longer and go into more depth. She gives 2 written assignments, and most test questions come from Book's website. Take good notes as her bonus questions are difficult.
I took this class at the same time as my other history and wish I had Perkins for both. Her tests are hard, because the majority of points come from fill in the blanks, with no word banks. She is a great teacher, but the fill ins caused most students to do poorly on her tests. Even when there is a word bank, it's not helpful on her tests.
Professor Lawrence is a really good teacher. She enjoys what she teaches which makes us (her students) want to hear more about it. Her tests are a little difficult. U can't just sleep through the class and expect to get an A. I got a B and i worked hard for it. U have to devote time to this class. I DO recommend her though.
She was an awesome teacher. I learned a ton. Can't wait to take the next course. Lots of notes but they definitely come in handy.
Dr. Lawrence is one of the best lecture professors I have ever had. She is very kind and helps one comprehend the material. I hate to say that there will be two papers due in her class. There are four tests, and the final is over material not comprehensive. 85% of her test questions are from the book so READ THE CHAPTERS.
She lectures for most of the class period and speaks in a very fluid but swift manner, so if you're a faster writer or typer who can pay attention to details, you will have an easier time than most when trying to keep up. Her tests are difficult and you NEED to study. You will have some extra credit and if you're borderline, they will help a lot!
Her tests are very hard. You have to devote much time and effort to get an A. You always have to pay attention in the class and take good notes. But she gives the best lecture! Very intelligent teacher, wide knowledge, she can answer all of ur questions. I love her lecture! This is the first time I'm not sleeping in history class!
I've taken 2 of her classes and they were all great. They were very hard but I feel so good to make an A because I know I try and learn a lot. It's a fun challenge to try when you take her class. She's the best history professor!!!
She is a very sweet lady but her class is very HARD!!!! I am an A student and was thankful I passed at all. Her test reviews suck!
Grades are mainly test which are about 80% mult choice 20% fill in the blank. 2 papers and few quizzes. Some say the test were hard I didnt think so(I can memorize almost everything I hear tho) everything on the test is covered in class. I didnt go to class for 3 weeks or open the book and made a B. Not easy but not super hard either. Hot teacher!
This class is very hard! She lectures the entire time and you really have to pay attention to detail when taking notes. Her lectures are fun but she talks extremely fast. The tests are difficult and most questions come from your notes. I strongly do not recommend Ms. Lawrence if you are not persuing a degree in history or looking for an easy A or B
Her class is purely lecture 100% of the time, besides on test days. An extremely hard class. No reviews for tests. Talks hours without stopping. Not recommended.
She knows her stuff but is VERY HARD> Dont miss class she takes attendance Quizes
A great professor. Her test are very hard. I did receive an A, but I had to study all the time. Will definetely take another class with her.
Hard, Hard, Hard, Hard!! Do Not Take!!!
Dr. Lawrence is a very structured professor. She is always willing to answer questions and I felt she cared about each student and if they were understanding the material. She is a University level teacher and that is why people find her classes hard. Take notes, pay attention and put actual effort into class and you will do well. I Recommend!
She is tough teacher, but really good. If you read your book, do the assignments, and study for her tests you are good to go!! She responds to emails in a timely manner - very nice. I would recommend taking her if you really want to learn Texas History. She has alot of good informational assignments.
Great professor - she grades pretty hard, but if you just do your assignments and read your book you will do fine. I thought it was a bit hard, but good and I made an A!! I am minoring in History and this is the type of teacher I needed. I definately recommend her!!
I would not recommend her, if History is not your thing. She does have you write a few essays nothing too extreme. Most of them are about 175 words, she does have one that is about 700 to 1000. Her tests are real hard and she does not give you a review. I am currently taking her on-line right now. She is very hard, you have to stay on top of it.
Can't answer questions about time period. Ambushed us on our first exam. Over half the test not from the lecture or printed terms we were given to study from.
I am currently taking her for an online class and she is great. The class is fairly easy, you just have to do the reading. The text itself is a very easy read. The homework and tests are not that hard you just have to actually put an effort into them. The two papers she requires are also not hard. She is very quick to respond to emails. Overall a g
Her lectures are very interesting, but her exams are hard especially the fill-in the blank with no word bank. The quizzes are ok as long as you are there that day. you have 2 out of 3 essays which is a chapter she assigns from the book. Wished i could of done better =/
Dr.Lawrence is a very tough professor. But she knows what shes talking about. If you are willing to put in the effort, then you will end up with a good grade. Attendance helps because she has quizzes randomly. I enjoyed her and took several classes of hers, but you DO have to work HARD.
She is a SNOB! She won't get back to you if she does not like you. You really have to press for her to answer your questions. You can be as polite as possible but she still acts stuck up! I loved the class, did not like her as a person. VERY anal grader!
Difficult but great teacher. She LOVES her subject.Strongly suggested if you want to learn about history. Not suggested if you want an easy A (or easy C). Learned a LOT during her course. Could be best class you'll ever have.
A tough grader and sometimes obscure in assignments. IE- look at these 5 historic photos then write a 1000 word paper about what you think of the time. I'm especially not impressed with the text book. It jumps around in date and the texts used by other instructors are much more clear and don't exclude so much of the human element of history.
PLACES GRADES UP WAY TOO LATE,SO YOU REALLY DON'T KNOW IF YOU NEED EXTRA CREDIT.TEST/QUIZES ARE VERY HARD.I HAD AN "A" ALL THROUGH THE SEMESTER, I GUESS SHE DIDN'T LIKE THAT. I CAME OUT HER CLASS WITH AN HIGH "B" AND I AM MAD!!! DON'T TAKE IF YOUR LOOKING FOR AN EASY GRADE!!! I DIDN'T LIKE THE BOOK AT ALL, MOVES AROUND ENTIRELY TOO MUCH.
PLEASE DON'T TAKE IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR AN EASY GRADE!!! SHE GRADES HARD AND LOOKS FOR EVERY LITTLE MISTAKE.HARD, HARD, HARD, HARD!!!
Well if you want a response to your emails, then I wouldn't take her class. Taking her DL class and she hasn't responded to any of my emails throughout the class. Her notes are adequate, but really a self taught class. Wasn't impressed, her initial syllabus that stated "don't call me Jennifer, call me Dr. Lawrence". Yep pretty much says it all!
Great professor, yet extremely tough. I would not recommend her unless you are a history major or have a genuine interest in the subject. I took her for both 2311 and 2312 and got A's in both, but many people in the classes had D's or worse by the final.
I took this class online. I ended up with a low A, but it was TOUGH! She goes into great detail, and most of the tests have nothing to do with what had been on the quizzes or notes. About 20% of the tests were fill in the blank questions. Everything is online. I also e-mailed her with a very valid question and never received a response.
I took her online. She is not an easy teacher, but I did learn a lot. The test were a bit confusing. She would ask questions about people or events that were not in the chapters we read. Her class got me to switch from Communications to History. I received a B in the class and worked my butt off. She is not an easy A.
Took her online and its hard.Tests all had questions that weren't from parts of book we were on. Her "Key Terms" hardly had anything to do with the actual test. You basically have to study everything just in case. There was a new DL process in place and she did a lot to overcome its limitations.
Very interesting teacher. Likes to tell little stories that help us remember subjects learned, yet doesn't stray away from the subject matter. Have to do two fairly easy essays (out of three chances), and gives movie extra credit. Exams are not the easiest, so read up on the chapters.
As a word of advise...never take a class that the professor wrote or contributed to the text book. You MUST read the text book in order to pass the class, especially if you take her class online. The posted lessons have nothing to do with the tests.
She lectures every day, must take good, clear notes. If you memorize the notes, you will ace tests. Tests can be anywhere from 65% to 95% from the lecture notes, so attendance is key to an A. She requires 2 papers based on readings only found in the library. You must analyze the readings and write 650 to 750 words. Lecture style is wonderful!
This class is taught like a graduate level course and not like an entry level community college class. Take Dr. Lawerence only if you intend on being a History major. The text book required is difficult to read (and she is a contributor to the text book). Tests contain questions found only in the book and not from lesson plan. Took class online.
Took class online. Class is taught like a graduate level class, not entry level. She's pretty strict about grammer. On the forum postings she doesn't instruct to post responses on other posts each time, just on some of the lessons, but you will get your grade knocked up to 4 points if you don't do it every post. Offers extra credit though.
I was extremely disappointed with this class. I am a history major and this is the worst History class I have ever had. The tests are ridiculous; and your results are never posted so the teacher could really make your grade what she wants. Do not take this professor unless you want to spend 20 hours a week studying and still make a sub-par grade.
I dropped this class because I felt as if we barely went over the exam information well at all and her voice became so grating that I couldn't sit in another class. However if talking about football briefly before every class makes up for this, go ahead and take her.
I just really hate her. She was not understanding of the fact that the freaking textbook was out of my budget for the first week so I started off behind. She didn't like me so she never replied to me. She counts tardies like we're freaking high schoolers. TAKE ANYONE BUT HER
I took her class online. So, in the beginning of the semester she was fine and the assingments and tests weren't hard. But on some of the assignments, she'll give instructions, but fail you if you complete the instructions completely. All because she didn't put EXACTLY what she wanted or was expecting. She wasn't responsive either. Not a good prof.
I enjoyed this course. There is a bit of reading & you will need the book. She responds to emails, and grades really easy on the discussion points if you stay on track and pay attention. She gives you a week to complete all task and extensions due to TCC system glitches. If she taught another course I would take it and online. I passed the class!
I thought she was a great lecturer and I enjoyed coming to class every day (you need to go every day because the notes are most of the test). Most of the bad ratings seem to be from the online courses but I had her in a traditional class and really liked it. She was very understanding with people who had late papers or personal issues.
She is one of the best teachers I have had the privilege of being influenced by. I loved going to her class, the way she verbalizes things is entertaining and interesting. Would definitely sign up again to take her class, if need be. Great Teacher!! you do need to attend her class regularly though, other then that she is awesome!
I took the half online and half lecture class and it was kind of cool until the test came and it was really tough. I haven't passed any tests of hers. The online assignments were pretty easy. Also she talks fast and some people aren't able to keep up but I did. It depends on your ability to take notes and listen.
Honestly this class have been stressing me out so bad, studied for a text for almost 6 hours, made flash card that I could use in the test, and did not pass. You work for the great you get, not this class. Not all of us is trying to become a History major... Huge mistake taking this class.
You have to read the book to pass this class. I loved Dr. Lawrence, she gave out extra credit, which helped me pass. Her test are hard but if you read the book you will pass. Her lectures could be better but most of the stuff is not on the test anyways. Her quizzes help your grade, also! I would take her again !
You're gonna have to buy the txtbook if you're gonna take her. Oh by the way, you're gonna have to read every single thing in that book too. Lectures get more boring with each class. Test? Hah. Don't rely on your lecture notes. Her tests are ridiculously hard for no reason. Don't recommend this class.
She never responded to my e-mails, which I sent 4 times throughout the semester. I tried to schedule an appointment with her, but she never responded. What kind of teacher who really wants to help her students does that? Her tests are hard. You HAVE to study & use the textbook! The only actually good thing I can say is she gives decent lectures.
The test are pretty tough. You will never get out early. Attendance is vital. If you don't show up, you probably won't pass. The class lectures, good note-taking, & the textbook terms are key to passing this class. Don't expect to get a reply to your emails from her, even if it is a valid question. I definitely would not take her again.
She NEVER responded to my emails. Read the book profusely and could not pull higher than a B- on a test. Took her hybrid class and will NEVER take her again. It is just history, lady!! Give us a break!!
This professors lectures' are AMAZING! She is very interactive and gives you interesting information. Because most of her tests are based on the reading of the textbook "a very slow read", and lecture, her test are difficult. Take notes and study. She allows you to use one side of a note card (USE IT). Overall a great professor.
Course heavily relies on book and lecture. Her lectures are often not clear. Each chapter of the course she has terms which she describes vaguely and she often gets off topic of the term. The term in the book is differently related to how she explains them. I suggest you to not take her if you like history and actually want to learn and pass.
Her lectures are really entertaining but wow this class is hard, It was my only B. She is very nice and you can get extra credit but be prepared to work and I mean really work.
Basically the most awful class I have ever taken, and I love history. She doesn't even tell us what chapter she's covering in class and chooses to rely completely on the extremely boring book for tests, quizzes and even discussion boards. We never talk in class or have an interactive lecture its just her talking and talking.
The worst professor I've ever had online or on campus. Takes this class much too seriously, tests are proctored by Procter U and they are so detailed and difficult that even if you memorized her notes and the textbook, you'd still fail. The discussion posts and assignments are easy and can be done without the book but she is a tough grader. Avoid.
I took hybrid class. to get an A you need to study hard for the online quizzes it took me 8 hrs a week. they do matter. review lecture notes every couple days. she does not give reviews. she gave extra credit but it wont be enough. she confuses questions from different chapters not included in test.
At the beginning, she makes it seem like a simple class. which it is. no essays, only 3 exams, weekly reading quizzes and a discussion board every other week. the tests are actually very difficult, as one who studies often I could not pass one. she adds points which is the reason I passed, but the tests don't have much to do with what we learned.
She is great person, however her class in on another level of difficult. Her lectures do not correlate to her test so get ready to read all chapters of the book if you want to get an A. She gives 10 quizzes which are very easy and should help your grade. Only reason I took her because I had no option.
The most frustrating part about this class was the lack of communication from the professor. I had to email her several times over the course of several months revolving around one issue, and she would never respond back. If you can avoid taking her online class, Id encourage it.
Professor Lawrence definitely made the course harder than it needed to be. I did almost all the assignments and still BARELY made a B. The tests were really hard and the use of Proctor U for a TX history class was unnecessary. Like cmon girl, you know none of us are actually passionate about the subject, give us the A and move on.
I took her online and she's a tough grader. The quizzes and tests are SUPER specific about the history so you gotta read. A few quizzes, discussion boards and 4 tests. She takes a while to email you back. I don't recommend her.
I took her for Summer 1 online & was an easy A. Quizzes every day that are very easy and test answers are almost all online, reading textbook does help with tests and writing discussion posts ,but is not required. Only complaint is that she takes a while to put grades in.
I took HIST 1301 online with a different professor, and it was much easier than the mess I endured with Professor Lawrence. If you even miss a discussion board or a journal about a topic that needs to be 300 words MINIMUM, it will tank your grade. Please avoid her class, she makes it absolutely harder than necessary.
If you even miss one Discussion Board by a few hours past the deadline, forget about passing. Her posts must be 300 words required plus 150 words response to a classmate. She is not flexible. Posts unnecessary "Busy-work" assignments. About 5-7 assignments per week as if we don't have much more important classes to strive in. Please avoid!!
This is one of the worst professors I have ever encountered. She makes the class way more difficult than it needs to be. Hardly communicates via email. If you even submit an assignment a couple of hours late, forget about it. Immediate zero and no chance to make it up. 300-word discussion post about a topic that can be answered in a simple sentence
Very hard to access outside of class. Make sure to study weekly, and complete the discussion boards. This class frustrated me to no end since the amounts of work was unnecessary. She just needs to be more communicative.
Where do i start? At the beginning of the year i was excited for the class. She was an entertaining lecturer. But your grades rely HEAVILY on the exams you take. so you have to study religiously, starting at least a week before. she makes us write unnecessary information and study irrelevant things. Don't take her if you are not majoring in history
Four exams over the course of the semester, final is non-cumulative. 1/3 of the exam q's are from the textbook so you will need to at least skim it each unit. There are three opportunities for short essays, but you only need to write two. Even if you get 70s on the exams, if you do the papers and some extra credit you'll still pass just fine.
Professor Lawrence was my first ever online and wintermester class I have ever taken, and I am so glad I did. She provides an agenda of when assignments are due and you are even able to get ahead. It's a very very easy class if you keep up with the assignments. All exams and quizzes were open note and open book straight from PPs and book.
Prof. Lawrence's lectures were pretty fun to attend and listen to. She makes it obvious she really cares about what she's teaching, and she talks like a normal human having a conversation, except that she's explaining History. She also offers extra credit that involves watching movies and/or reading books, which is fun, I guess.
I did not appreciate the fact that you must purchase a textbook where professor J-Law was a co-author, so I didn't. All of the information about the history of Texas is on youtube, Don't buy the book, do study. With multiple attempts allowed on most quizzes and tests it's on you to get the grade you want.
She outlines everything you need to do but it's still a hard class. There are questions on every test that are not covered in lecture or in the book or even the powerpoints. The online assignments are also ridiculous because half the time they don't even cover the topic of that week and are not at all relevant to what you actually need to know.
Professor Lawrence is a nice lady and her lectures are entertaining. Fast talker! If you dont know how to take detailed notes then youre screwed. There is so much covered in every class it is hard to remember everything and you absolutely have to study weekly. Also the exams are a huge potion of your grade, but I do appreciate the extra credit.
Her lectures are entertaining, and you absolutely have to pay attention to them as the tests you take are mostly lecture based questions. The workload is kind of heavy but nothing anybody can't handle. She covers 100 years every class period. Only taking her again because she was the only one available at the time I needed.
As a vet, i consider her to be woke. I took major hits to grades because i did not do some social feedback with the class. I dont do social media. turned in a paper after midnight, took a major hit to grade a 3 out of 10. I would take the class at the jr college before i take her again. lecture was not fun for me either, hated it avoid folks.
About 50% of each exam was based on minuscule details and the major ones that would be important were missing. Lectures were very interesting. Every last word is all-important. If asked a question, she brings up facts we don't need to remember, then goes straight back into material we need to know without any kind of signal, which was frustrating.
Professor Lawrence is a really good professor. Her lectures are so interesting to listen to and informative, but the tests are lecture heavy. There's a little bit of reading involved before each test, but nothing too bad. It's a really good course to take. Highly recommend.
Her lectures are funny and she's very chill. You can't miss a day though, she has a lecture each day and 3 major exams for them. Furthermore, her lectures have no PowerPoint, so take good notes and pay attention. Also, pay attention to due dates, you'll miss a lot of assignments the first few weeks like me if you don't check them daily.
Maybe I shouldn't have taken this one as a minimester. Tons and tons of reading. And Google is your friend. Unfortunately, the test questions don't have much to do with any of the materials gone over, nor much of anything to do with the 10ish minute weekly recycled lectures.
The tests are based on the class notes where there is just a topic of discussion. So get ready to note every word she said because you will be quizzed. It will be difficult to keep track of somebody's words. There's no basis to prepare for the test, except the general topics. What is the use of writing a review when my grades are already ruined?
A lot of assignments but easy. There are discussion board assignments every week or two due. A chapter quiz every week over a chapter. There are two essay reading assignments. She has PowerPoints which are not helpful on tests only 10 questions are from the slides the rest are from the book. She lets you use a notecard on tests. Gives extra credit.
"This class is RIDICULOUS!" It was THE HARDEST class I have ever taken, including the year of biology I took. That statement alone says a lot. Her slide shows are nothing but images. No texts or descriptions to help you take notes. It's all SPOKEN! Little to no resources on Canvas. I wanted to drop this class as soon as I took exam 1.
If you miss one class you practically failed unless you know someone willing to share their notes with you because she provides nothing on canvas to help with notes. Test are very lecture heavy and most of it ends up not being on the exam. You'll have weekly quizzes on canvas and an occasional discussion board which are fairly easy.
Overall this class was easy. I took this course online. Her expectations were straightforward. You will have to read but again super easy. She responds promptly to questions. She does use a plagiarism test through IU for a grade. The test seems virtually impossible to pass. Speaking that assignment didn't hold that much weight I skipped it. Easy B!
All the work is outlined in the syllabus and she replies quickly to emails. Record the lectures 'cause the powerpoints are useless, and get notes if u miss class. there is extra credit on tests and you can use a notecard.
Run from her class you will be regretting. Her exam extremely hard and 60 questions time based on my 60 minutes and about 20% of questions are not in class or textbook or video lecture
Save your GPA find another professor, she is very unorganized and extremely hard on grading and her exam is not from textbook or video lecture .
Her exams are hard trust me, her presentations aren't very helpful either she's okay i just wished more from her and maybe for to give out notes in classes to review
If you have the chance to choose a different prefesor please DO i wouldn't recommend even if shes the last teacher
The assignments didnt align with the reading. Plan reading a chapter ahead of what it says to read. The wording on the tests were tricky. A lot of the links within the course didnt work. LOTS of reading involved! Lots of discussion board writings. 300 words each, comments of 100 words. She is a slow grader, I didnt know where I was at on my grade.
Switch your professor. You have to teach yourself all the material as nothing she gives is helpful and the tests do not correlate with the discussion boards and interpreting the past assignments. Every assignment is very lengthy and she assigns way too much work while grading strictly and slow. No direct teaching from her at all.
Do yourself favor find another professor. Hard grader, her exam is 60 question time based and about 40% of question not in text book or lecture you have to guess. Failures is guaranteed avoid her by all means. you will Regret if you dent listen.
I took this professor back in spring of 2024, so please yourself a favor choose a different professor, she has weekly quizzes, 2 essay papers, and 3 unit tests her powerpoints aren't very helpful and the weekly quizzes you can find them on quizlet the only reason i past her was bc of my weekly quizzes and papers please dont pick her:)
I think people on her don't like because they're lazy. Yes she has a bit of work assigned but she is very helpful and will look over rough drafts of essays before you turn it in. Her assignments are even that bad, an 10 question quiz each week, grow up. Also, her lectures are fun and she shares history like storytelling
Be sure to write down every single word she says during lectures. The content on the tests/exams was pretty much every thing she would talk about during lectures, so be sure to write notes over every word! Overall, the assignments and papers she assigned were pretty easy. The pop quizzes are also easy and simple.
I have had nothing but a great time in both her 1301 and 1302 classes and have yet to see what people have against her. She does require a little bit more work and extra credit, but that also means that the tests would not be the make or break for the class. People just do not like her teaching style and that can be expected with any teacher.
I have no problems with the load work it's easy to keep up but the only thing I don't like is most of the quiz items can be easily skimmed over in the textbook which can freak you out and make you read every single word the next time which is time consuming. I wish there was more organization on this aspect of her class just like her video lectures
Just save your money and take another professor, there is no reviews for any tests, she is so nice, but she needs to try harder on giving us info, also be careful on using AI, trust me she will know.
shes nice but the workload is HEAVY especially with the semester papers, I never got the text book and just quizlet all the weekly quizzes because the exams are only over her lectures. be careful with AI, even a singular sentence gets flagged and she'll give a zero without hesitation
I know that a lot of people don't like Professor Lawerence bc she gives a lot of work, but I loved her class so much! There are two essays, but she gives you plenty of time do to them. She also gives extra credit which is pretty easy to do.
I loved Professor Lawerence! She made learning history fun and she is so nice! Her class does have a lot work, but as long as you manage your time well, then her class will be easy! She also gives extra credit which is easy to do!
Sweet lady, her class is hard tho you must dedicate alot of time to studying. Her lectures are done in a story-telling way which can be fun. Test are long and hard, she allows notecard but there is a fill in the blank section. Take if you have time.
She doesn't acknowledge or respond to mails. She is not supportive. Online students, pick her at your own risk, she's horrible.
Do yourself a favor RUN and never look back
I loved Professor Lawrence! She does give a lot of work, but plenty of time to do them, and she gives easy extra credit
I had Professor Lawrence during my junior year in Spring 2024. She was an amazing instructor. The readings can be a bit intensive in terms of writing the essays during tests. My best advice for y'all would be doing all the extra credit and using NotebookLM to comprehend ANY CONCEPTS necessary for you to best understand and to pass the class.
