class only worked for me because i went to office hours and cared about my grade, classmates complained and got c's because they decided not to try and blamed it on her. overall class was long and full of information. tests are hard but I got an A overall. do the hw!
It is clear that she knows the material but unless you're fluent in her specialized jargon, then i would not recommend signing up for the class. Most students end up retaking the class but get A's & B's at the second try. Your call.
barely goes over the homework. does the easiest examples in class so when you get to the homework you can't understand anything. if you have to end up taking her i'd say the math lab is going to be your best friend. i never went to her office hours though because i didnt think shed be good at explaining anything
Jen is super helpful. I had her for 120 and 130 and got an A in both. Office hours are a must in her class if you care about your grade. Awesome teacher just don't be lazy cus she will have no sympathy for you. Take her! :)
This class is not so hard, but really a LOT of homework, and quizzes about 2 times a week. Fair grading though. She doesn't care about you unless you come to talk to her. She does the job, no more.
This class is not so hard, but really a LOT of homework, and quizzes about 2 times a week. Fair grading though. She doesn't care about you unless you come to talk to her. She does the job no more.
I would not recommend taking Loftus's class. She explains that you should have a minimum of 3 hours of home work a nigh,t and doesn't teach the material well. Unless you see her at her office hours several times a week, then you will have a hard time with this class!
Good teacher. A lot of extra credit opportunities. If you do the homework and go to all the classes you should get a good grade.
Mrs. Loftus is a really good teacher. Many opportunities for extra credit. Do ALL quizzes, homework and go to office hours if you are confused. She has been one of my favorite teachers. I highly recommend her.
Math 130 is not supposed to be an easy class. Loftus is a great teacher IF you pay attention and do the work. Alot of extra credit and drops 3 lowest quiz grades.
This class is soooo funny. nobody does well on any of the tests for some reason even though she prepares u pretty well for the test. im one of the best students in all of the 3 sections and math always was my weak point. she literally tries to make everyone pass, if a lot of ppl are doing bad she will maket the tests a lot easier
Not a good teacher if you have a chance to take someone else DO IT! You will regret taking Loftus. She is not clear in her lectures and compiles her test of problems not covered in class. Barely passed by the skin on my teeth. AVOID!!!!
Professor Loftus reads her lectures basically straight from the book, and chooses easy examples to work out in class, yet leaves tons of difficult homework problems that are about 10 times harder than the work performed in class. Tests are difficult, with class averages in the low 60's. Tends to get lost in her own work when explaining problems.
Young teacher, will eventually be much better. Average class average for exams ranges from low 50's to upper 60's. Needs to develop concise explainlations. Wish I had her 5 years from now. Not rude, not nice -- good persona for professor.
Dr. Loftus is a vey knowledgeable professor but her method of instruction is poor. Math is one my stronger subject but I struggled. Lectures are very confusing (consistently makes mistakes) and only simple problems are explained, quizzes dont reflect HW and test do not reflect quizzes. Many A students barely maintained C's thru the semester. Avoid
professor Loftus is the worst professor i had so far. i took this class because all the other ones were full. now i know why. her teaching style is different. she makes you hand write the notes and doesnt let you use calculators on exams. the problems she does in class are REALLY easy compared to the homework(super difficult).DONT TAKE THIS CLASS!
Worst teacher I've ever had. I took her before; had to withdraw due to her horrendous teaching style. I also had to take her again this semester because she and one other teacher are the only 138 teachers and the other was full. What does that tell you? Her voice is like needles being driven into your brain. Unless you like wasting money, avoid!
Dr. Loftus gets a lot of grief from the class sometimes, but I think much of it is misguided. She wants her students to do well. She gives hard tests, but makes up for the difficulty with extra credit. Her enthusiasm for the subject is a major plus (especially in mathematics) and it will rub off on you if you let it.
Dr. Loftus knows her stuff but makes a lot of mistakes and takes up a lot of class on one problem. She also crams a lot of material in one day instead of explaining more. Chances are that you will fail and even the counselors say to avoid.
I took her for math 150 and 160 and she is great. She is willing to help and always wanting to improve her teaching. I don't really understand the hate people give her I think she is great!
Besides her ridiculously difficult tests, she's a great/helpful teacher. If you ACTUALLY do the homework and put in a lot of effort into the class, you will do well. In regard to all the angst a lot of people have towards her on this site: remember it's math! it's hard and she wants you to really know the material.
As long as you do your homework and study the exam reviews, you will do fine. Most of her tests mimic her exam reviews. If you have any questions, she will be glad to help you. She is a really nice person, I personally enjoyed taking her class (: (I got an A)
Very helpful teacher! As long as you do your homework & study the exam reviews you will do good. Not at all a bad teacher, in my opinion (:
Excellent teacher, actually grades based off whether you learned the lessons, not whether you can parrot the textbook. Very approachable, listens, attempts to explain complicated things in a simple manner and is willing to spend the (extra) time doing so. Excellent, caring teacher. If math were easy, everyone would be great at it.
She is a great teacher who is very dedicated to making sure that you know the material before the tests. If you make time to learn the material and make an effort to go and see her if you have any questions and/or before a test, there is no way you will not do well in this class. I got my very first B in math in her class! (Usually do much worse)
Jennifer is an amazing professor who is very passionate about math. She truly wants all of her students to succeed and is open to constructive feedback. My advice to those taking her class is to not stress about the negative reviews, do the homework, and prepare for exams. This is not high school, just showing up is not enough to pass the tests!
Absolute horrible teacher. Does not explain material in a clear manner and even has the nerve to answer her phone during class. Gives absolutely no partial credit on exams. The number one community college in the world deserves much better than this
I don't know what all the bad reviews are for, her class is incredibly difficult, but she is really helpful. Great teacher!
Loftus is probably not a teacher you want to be taking. She is unclear in her lectures and often gets corrected by students. It's understandable that she makes so many mistakes because she is still a young teacher, but she should still be reasonable, meaning that she should not make her tests so incredibly difficult. Overall not recommended.
I don't understand why Dr. Loftus is getting so much grief. Most math professors make mistakes on the board & she's not the only 1 that doesn't allow calcs. Im in Math210 now & the last time I was able to use 1 was Math 107. So get use to that, not a big deal. The fact that you can earn EC in her class is great, you can't find that anywhere else.
Ms. Loftus means well but she doesn't think from the perspective of her students and subsequently makes their lives harder because of it. Be extremely prepared for the tests in her class as they are quite above and beyond the difficulty of the homework.
Dr. Loftus is amazing. Her class seems hard because she has high expectations but only with her students' best interested at heart. She provides so much: typed notes, reviews, lots of help in office hours, and extra credit. Very enthusiastic and nice. I just love her. Crap students do crappy in her class but those willing to work will learn a ton!
she is amazing! i liked her so much but she is very very hard on test. However, if u take her class seriously and do homework extra points u are so luky to get A in this class. she is very helpful
Loftus really cares about her students. Her class is hard, but if you put in the work by doing the homework and visiting her office hours you should be fine. She even offers extra credit after you have taken the test, which ultimately boosts your test scores. She also gives extra credit for some of the homework. If you're struggling, she'll help u.
Dr. Loftus is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING I took her in the summer the homework was online but you can answer the questions until you got it right so you always get 100%. Her lectures are helpful She cares so much and the tests are not bad at all, quizes had questions from homework and tests had questions straight from review. SHE IS THE BEST TAKE HER
Avoid loftus at all costs. Consistently (as in, every lecture) confuses herself and derails the lecture. Can't solve problems without a worked example in her notes. Can't synthesize answers to questions if they aren't in her notes. Makes mistakes consistently on examples, or just skips all the work and writes the answer. Worst prof I've had at CC.
I regret taking this course, she was very unprepared and didn't know how to respond to most students question. She isn't ready to teach this course, she would give ten minute breaks to finish her examples that she should've prepared beforehand. Homework is timeconsuming and doesn't reflect the test. I'm a studious student and she's a horrible prof.
terrible teacher. she doesnt know how to teach this class at all. doesnt know the material. if you want to save your money and GPA dont take her class
This was her first 200. She is fresh out of phD and exams' difficulty reflect that. Resentment prob stems from her telling us she would take questions from midterms for final but gave us brand new questions. I'm an AB student, ended with 79%. I skipped a lot of class and homework though. It was more or less fair, she gave lots of EC and had OH.
All the Math200 cmnt says it all. Her first time teachinggood person, but that's no excuse for studius students to get their GPA wrecked. She takes things personally, refuses to change, and blames everything on her students. Advice from her "successful" students: compliment on everything she says. tl;dr Unorganized, hard to understand, worst prof.
She is the worst teacher I've had in college. She doesn't know anything about Multivariable Calculus. I had to work hard studying from the book. She gave us problems in the midterms that she did not even know how to solve. When you ask question to her during the lesson, her answer is always "I don't know" and she just laughs thinking it is funny.
Not good for first-time 200 students, avoid her at all cost. If you're a part-time or have took Multi-variable Calc in the past, just remember to look at past notes and disregard her notes. She confuses everyone in the class, messes up her examples, and most importantly messed up two questions on our exams. Avoid her lecture, study online.
My rating is gone. Overall: bad professor, hard to synthesize, reads off her notes, can't do examples other than her notes, messes up on test questions, hw is way too hard and irrelevent to test, compare to Jim's class the questions are very complicated thus time consuming, comes in unprepared, 10min break when she can't answer our question.
lots of extra credit
Well, where do I begin..I've had Loftus for multiple classes in the past, and I went into this class knowing what kind of teacher she was previously. She started off promising. I know she was new to the course, but this was ridiculous. She told us what would be on the final, and it was anything but that. She screwed us, and our GPA's.
I love her math class!!!!!she is so amazing !!! some people said she is hard but actually she is really helpful!!!!!!after studying in her class, we all deeply understand what 150 learned!!! love Jennifer!!!!let's take her class!!!
Dr. Loftus definitely knows her stuff but doesn't really know how to teach it to her students. She's unorganized and her lectures are hard to follow. The exams are extremely difficult for the quality of her teaching. Will not be taking her again and definitely don't recommend her to anyone taking higher math classes.
Don't take her for upper level math, she might have the knowledge and understanding of math but she doesn't know how to communicate it clearly for us to understand. The test are not meant to test how much we know, and for how much we cover in class the test shouldn't be this hard.
She is a fantastic Lecture for math 200. Hard material but if you know your stuff, you can easily follow. Her test should not be hard though. She is still new and have rooms for improvement. Students may not like this but she needs to skip all the algebra steps so she can have more time covering the whole material. Review quiz needs to be shorter.
Loftus is a wonderful teacher. You have to show up to class even though attendance isn't required and put on A LOT of study time. Go to her office hours often (she's really nice!) and you'll do well. If you work as hard as you should be working for an upper division class, you'll get an A. Her tests are difficult but not impossible.
She's not very smart, does weekly math assignments on webassign that's the most annoying thing you will ever do. Expect working on this class for hours everyday to get an A. She has no idea what she is doing I would strongly recommend a different teacher, she is by far the worst I have had at SBCC. Dropped her class and so did my roommate.
She's knowledgeable in solution strategy and provides thorough notes. If you put in the effort, Loftus's rigorous style makes math easy in the long run. She often forgets you haven't been her student since primary and seems oblivious to your incomplete or previous understanding of fundamental concepts. But she's very nice and willing to help.
She's super nice&sweet and loves questions. Genuinely wants to make math clear and understandable. If you have questions she will office hrs and email are both options. Don't know a core concept needed for this class? she will help you. Extra credit for test can boost your score by a letter grade and she sets you up for success but challenges you
She's a really nice teacher. She definitely knows what she's teaching and talking about but she doesn't explain everything clearly. It seems as though she expects you to know the material as though it were general knowledge. You will need a lot of time to study for this class. I would recommend taking this class with a different professor.
Loftus is one of the best math professors I've ever had. I was on the fence about choosing a Mathematics major but her class made me see that I made the right decision. Tests are pretty hard but there is more than enough extra credit offered to pass the class. If you love math you'll absolutely love this class. Only con is that I hate webassign
Loftus was an okay teacher. The course itself is pretty hard due to the subject matter but I felt like she didn't do a very good job explaining the material to the class. She knows a whole lot but is not the best teacher. Tests are also very difficult, the class average for one test was a 46/100 so prepare yourself.
Her class isn't easy. Not only is the material difficult to understand, but it is also taught at an extremely fast pace. If you aren't doing everything in your power to be successful in the class, you're going to struggle. She writes her tests to intentionally pick the most challenging examples, so keep that in mind when studying.
She wants to help her students, but she just do not know how to teach. Tests are hard. Although she gives many extra credits, many people cannot pass.
I agree, her classes aren't for everyone. Take her class if you intend to work really hard to learn (and know) the material. Her exams are interesting, difficult but manageable if you're prepared. Work ahead on the reviews and take advantage of the extra credit. Go to her office hours, if needed; she's nice and will be happy to explain it to you.
Her Math 150 course is very hard. Exams get harder the further you go into the course and on top of that she doesn't curve. There's a very heavy emphasis in lecture which means you will not do well if you skip class often. On top of that, the homework pile is pretty large - all on webassign. For the final, it was way too long and too time consuming
Loftus is super smart, no doubt. Hard class because you have to really have a good bases for calculus or be willing to work hard in her class. You'll need to go to office hours too. Her work is hard because there are tricks here and there that she will throw in. In conclusion, DO THE REVIEWS OVER AND OVER & GO TO OFFICE HOURS and you'll be good.
Did not enjoy her class
Loftus was not the best lecturer, However she does get the point across. Barely any homework in the class, just 2 reviews and 2 maple (ugh) labs. Class was pretty much based solely on tests and the final. Tests were pretty easy, based off the review sheets and notes. Loftus is a teacher i think everyone should take.
I took her math 210 class and it was really horrible. She used an overhead projector to teach the class and the display was extremely horrible. There was a bad glare. The window blinds didnt work so it made it worse. She didnt take the time call maintenance to come fix. She didnt show up to 2 exams or office hours the day of. Just seem careless
Vector Calculus will be difficult to complete in a semester because of itself, not because of the professor. Doing all works and assignments that are quite hard to do on time are very associated with the concept, which means you cannot catch up unless you do them all before each exam. Show all your works in the exams. The final is very difficult.
Her class was overwhelmed with homework, felt some was just tedious and was there just to make you do work instead of having the time to absorb the material. Exams are challenging, much more challenging than the homework assigned which can be irrelevant.
Loftus is a great teacher, her class notes are very thorough I learned the material very well from them. Very organized class and above average lecturer. Tests were very reasonable, not easy but not super difficult +built in extra credit. I am currently finishing up the math I need to take and Loftus is the best math teacher I have had.
Somehow I ended up with a good grade without really feeling like she taught me much. She definitely wants students to succeed and gives more extra credit than most teachers with exam study guides that are basically just the exam with different numbers. Wouldn't take her again if I had a better option, but if I had to it wouldn't be the worst thing
I enjoyed her class, it's definitely a class you need to be willing to learn on your own to get the best out of the course. Her homework is difficult and she doesn't post solutions but she's always more than happy to go over any homework problems during her office hours which is extremely helpful. So I encourage students to go to office hours.
I'll tell you one thing. I'm taking 210 with her this semester. When I was choosing math220 class for next semester,I found out that there was only her class, and another professor's class, which was already full. I contacted the other professor begging him to open the waitlist. Seriously I would fail math220 if I take her class. I definitely would
Strongly advise against this professor. She wastes class time by trying to find solutions on Maple to her problems that she makes up. The practice tests are supposed to mirror the actual one, but the test always ends up with a question she never told to review. No book so there are limited references to learn from. Be prepared to teach yourself.
Professor Loftus cares about her students and is passionate about math, but there is a disconnect between her teaching style and students actually learning. Few exams make up most your grade and are very difficult. Her office hours are limited and at inconvenient times. Vast majority of the class sought extra help and was failing until she curved.
Her math210 class is not hard, because as long as you understand all 6 questions in the practice exam you'll get a very high grade in an actual exam. The practice one and the actual one would be almost the same. However, if your major is math, I don't recommend her, cause although I got a good grade in the end, I felt so confused in her class.
Jennifer is one of the best professor I have ever met in SBCC. In Math 160, she will give us 10 extra credits in every exam. Final exam has the 20 extra credits! If you do all the homework, she will give you all the points. She explain every question very clearly. You can get a easy A if you work hard.
SHES A TOUGH GRADER!! I have always been a straight A student and I got an F on her class so that's saying something. She won't give any points if you got a little thing wrong. IM WARNING YALL COS I LOVE YALL DONT TAKE HER!!
Honestly she comes across as very disorganized and not sure how to teach properly, because if this she fall behind her own schedule. Her tests are only 4 problems and worded strangely. Rather than slowly building up examples in notes she does 5 hard ones at the end of lecture. She's honestly a last resort professor and even then I don't know.
She does not know how to explain things properly and goes on long tangents that waste class time. She is very disorganized and often makes mistakes in the problems she makes up and in lecture. She gives a lot of extra credit but her class is structured poorly and a lot of the time she doesn't make sense. Be prepared to teach yourself.
She gets distracted almost instantaneously in class and will entertain whatever topic she is on until 35 into class, when she finally realizes she has to start lecture. She doesn't post grades in a timely manner at all; she refused to give us 2 of our test results until AFTER we had taken the final. On top of that, she was spiteful during COVID-19
This is probably the best online class I've ever taken although you have to work hard to earn it. Jenn is always helpful and caring and the way she conducts the class is very engaging. She is very responsive and willing to schedule zoom meeting outside of her office hours and group meetings.
You can't give a zero on this site. This lady should not have a job. Our final is in a week and she has only graded one of the three exams she's administered. I have an A in this class currently and full credit on most assignments. I learned more about multivariable calc in my 7th grade geometry class. It is unfair to students to employ this lady.
Would highly recommend! She's one of the only professors I've had that's meaningfully adapted their course content to quarantine, which I super appreciate. There are a lot of small assignments to stay on top of, but if you put in good effort every week, you should have no problem passing her class.
Her practice tests and exams will be nothing like the real thing. You will be thrown. Be prepared to not be prepared especially on the final. Participation does count but it won't save you at all if you don't do well on the exams.
50% of the grade is participation, and most of that is discussion boards. These take up so much time and students will rarely get full points. Spent the most amount of time by a landslide and was only 4 credits, while other classes were 5. Professor doesn't grade on time. only had 1/4 of test graded finals week. DO NOT TAKE. The worst teacher ever.
I don't understand why her ratings are so low on here? She's very clear and thorough when going over material and is willing to meet outside of office hours or do additional lectures just to help us. She's also very understanding during covid. If you keep up with the lectures and homework, you'll know the material and pass the exams. It's that easy
Dr. Loftus is the best teacher I have had during my 4 years of college. I took her combined calculus I/II class years ago and I am so appreciative of her teaching style and the strong mathematical foundation her course provided me.
Honestly the laziest and worts teacher i have ever had in my life. SHE DOES NOT SHOW ANY EXAMPLES OF HOW TO DO PROBLEMS. She will give a brief overview maybe tell you the formula then go make you figure it out yourself. She asks for feedback and then doesnt care about what you say. Theres no real home work only DISCUSSION BOARDS??
Lectures are short and hard to understand, with almost no example problems. I know many of my classmates are struggling because of this reason. The only way I have learned anything from this class is by watching OTHER professors' lecture videos. Expect us to learn from discussion boards which we all know is a chore assignment. Do not recommend.
I had Prof. Loftus for 2 classes. Her lectures are 1-2 hours and her notes are more definitions than actual practice problems. 1 practice test and regular test every week. Easy to get participation points.
Second class taken with her bc of sched.. Math 210 is much easier than 200. Participation matters & easy to get participation points. Notes dont have any practice problems, and homework is solving problems in discussion boards. A practice test and regular test every week. Grade is not accurate until day/week of exam bc final isn't weighted in book.
The professor was amazing. Their one to two discussion boards per week with a practice exit ticket (Fridays ) then on Monday the real exit ticket (test). Zoom meetings were optional but I recommend attending. She does offer extra credit. Overall, if you stay on top of your work and study you will pass this class.
Would not recommend if you want to actually learn the content for future courses. Paced entirely reliant on discussion boards, where you solve questions using latex and don't actually learn. She also uses Maple as a way to teach, which is very slow and frustrating. She also never responds to email, and ppl had to write notes on their exams.
Overall, I learned stuff from this class. My biggest issue was with inconsistencies in grading and a lack of clarity/explanations for scores.
She had the worst attitude when it came to students complaining about her not teaching thoroughly, she went on to say that the lectures are meant to have no examples, and she uses Maple to teach for her... She complains about having a heavy workflow, but only has one class this semester. Its ironic because she's also on the math department chair!!!
By far the worst math professor I have ever had beside Ignacio. AVOID her at all cost. Take Gabe he is so much better.
AVOID HER AT ALL COST!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Genuinely don't get the other bad reviews here. Yes, you use Maple but anyone who has ever touched a computer before can learn to use it. The way the class is set up is really cool. A bunch of small tests (around 8) which makes the work load a lot more manageable. Fair grading, lets you retake 2 tests per semester. Really chill and you learn a lot.
I thinker there's a lot of inconsistency between her classes, but I took her during a summer session and the class was absurdly difficult. No extra credit, no curves, a punishing 4-point scale that tanked your grade for small mistakes, and F/D averages consistently on every test. I didn't feel like I learned anything at the end as well
The Zoom meetings and videos after the Practice Exit Tickets go great with the lectures. The discussion boards give the class an in-person feel, and you pick up a lot of tips from your classmates (including LaTeX). Maple makes MATH 200 easier to visualize, and Professor Loftus keeps showing you how to graph by hand to encourage you to do the same.
Loftus jumps around and mix up the sections and enjoys telling students to check the discussion boards for answers to questions instead of answering your questions. The worst part are her lectures where she rambles on and turns a 40 minute video lecture into a 90 minute lecture video with no examples. If you have her please use Paul's Notes. Better
Very strange class, using pre recorded lectures from 3+ years ago, does not go over anything on whiteboard in class, only a couple homework problems per week.
Not a huge fan. Endearing, but not the best educator. Has an inexplicable love for Maple, which can be frustrating at times. Almost feels like a Latex class during the quizzes. If she's still allowing Desmos on the exit tickets when you take her, I highly recommend leaning heavily on it, you can copy and paste latex from it into your submission.
Please take someone else. She doesn't go through every step and messes up her own answers and zooms through everything. Overall doesn't care to explain what she's doing. She just does it on her own and then asks what we got without going through it with the class. Takes the whole class period to go over 1 problem and it's still very unclear.
Loftus has figured out how to get a teaching job without doing an ounce of teaching. Genuinely one of the worst teachers I've ever had, doesn't answer a single question that you have, rather insisting on asking your classmates, who are often just as confused as you are. If you take this class be prepared to spend hours at the library with no help.
I absolutely recommend Mrs Loftus she is understanding and wants to see us succeed, she has great lectures and is eager to hear our questions and provide solutions judgement free. All her quizzes are open note and she's taken in the feedback because she gave many chances to make up points and receive extra credit. Overall a great teacher and class!
Dr. Loftus is really nice! Difficult class and concepts. While there are practice tests and ungraded "second look hw" there is very little else meant to submit, making self discipline the absolutely necessary. Make sure to do every second look homework, and attend office hours. The test retakes help a lot so don't get demoralized halfway through!
Jennifer Loftus was an absolutely amazing professor. The care and attention she gives her students is above and beyond what I expected from a professor. She not only adjusted the class to our needs but took SO much time out of class creating new practice for us. PS don't let my grade reflect the value of Dr. Loftus; math was never my best subject.
Professor Loftus is kind, but her class NEEDS improvement. Weekly assignments include math discussion posts, Maple labs, and reflections. Multiple online open-note exams consist of several tests with 2-4 questions worth 4 points each- work must be submitted online for credit, leaving little time for math. Average class score was very low each test.
Loftus is an interesting professor. For one if you're a procrastinator then you can submit anything except discussions up to the final exam. On the other hand, if you want a view of your grade well good luck. Loftus takes over a month to grade. Her final is 30% of your grade, the 8 "Exit Tickets" are another 30%. Lectures are long and no examples.
Awesome, easy to talk to, and eager to help. However, the class's absurd reliance on Maple (horrid graphing software) wastes needed learning time. Also, the pace and difficulty of the class isn't met with adequate chances to improve grade. Loftus is a great teacher and enjoyable to be around, but the course is hard* and not well thought-through.
Professor Loftus' class can be a mixed bag - some love the setup, others find it too rigid. But unstuck study is a great study tool to stay on top of the work. Overall, a challenging but fair course.
100% would take again, class is very supportive and lots of extra credit!!!
This hybrid 7credit class requires about 21 hours a week and has tough open-note tests and super low level lecture notes. However, Mrs. Loftus offers so many chances to raise your grade exit ticket retakes, one question test redo which are guaranteed 100%,open-note final, extra credit, and support from the SBCC Math Lab. She's also kind and genuine
You have to attend lecture to learn the material, but with it being a college calc course this isn't surprising. There is consistent homework and exams, but she provides extra credit opportunities throughout and structures the class for you to succeed if you are willing to do the work. Highly recommend her!! Would 100% take again.
This course has a lot of material, but the way she has the class set up allows for students to focus on one concept at a time. She provides many opportunities to earn extra credit. Always asks what students want to work on in class. You will have to spend a lot of time outside of class teaching yourself, though, since lectures are just videos.
I personally struggle with math. I have never taken calculus in my life, but she made it easy to understand. If you actually show that you are determined and do your work, she is a very understanding person. She notices when you do your best. Great communication. Best teacher I have ever had.
First off, you have to get a near-perfect score on the exit tickets for your grade to not drop an entire letter. Second, the class doesn't feel set up very smoothly. I understand the idea behind the discussion posts but I feel like they're not set up very well in execution. Nice lady, but would reccomend taking another prof for 130 if you can.
Will not provide examples for concepts. Must learn Maple and LaTeX which is required for tests and wastes valuable time. Super kind lady. Terrible at teaching and lecturing. You will have to teach yourself the calc 2 concepts making the dedication to this class much bigger than it has to be. Success in this class requires much dedication.
Allows full pages of notes on exit tickets but no calculators, which I find strange. Usage of the LaTeX equation editor sometimes takes more time then the actual problem itself. Wants you to explain in words how you solved the problem on exams instead of showing pure math, which I think wastes valuable test time. Nice person, but wouldn't recommend
I think the teacher was pretty good. The lectures weren't understandable whatsoever, but the fact that 3.5 out of the 7 midterms you can retake, and you get as many notes as you want, is a great plus. It also helps that you can get more than 100% through extra credit in the assignments. Homework is light. Just form a study group and practice tests.
Very little homework and you are graded mainly on 8 quizes, 4 of which you can retake and will get 100% on. All the quizes and final are open note. This class is impossible to fail if you do the homework, labs, and show up for the quizes.
If math's not your strong suit/you can't learn on your own, this may not be the class for you. It's structured to be independent. If you're stuck taking it, go to office hours and you'll be fine. She offers so much extra credit that it's nearly impossible not to pass. If you are decent at math, TAKE THIS CLASS! She's super nice and it's a breeze.
Super nice teacher who genuinely wants students to succeed. It's a different learning style than I was used to, as you have to learn outside of the classroom, not during lectures. There are lots of extra credit opportunities, and I would 100% take this class again.
