Let me tell you why I found this class very easy: no assignment,you don't need the text book unless you want to. 4 exams all multiple choices. what I did was only watching the online lecture. I didn't skip any of them, but set the speed of the player to 1.5 or 2. It is boring only if you don't pay attention.
Stupid easy. All I did was look at the notes THE DAY BEFORE the tests, and I got an A in the class. If you have difficulty retaining information that way, then just study earlier and it's still an easy A. There's good opportunities for extra cred if you're worried. Lytwyn basically did nothing for me, I didn't even watch the lecture vids.
I took it online but also watched the lecture videos. For tests, either watch lectures or read PDFs of slides. I wrote notecards to help memorize the main concepts. 4 tests, 25% each. And there are optional assignments to replace a grade. Also take the self-tests a bunch as the questions on those are very similar to the tests.
This is probably the easiest natural science credit ever. All I did was read the power points and do the self tests that she posts. 90% of her test questions are pulled from the practice tests. Never touched the textbook or watched a lecture. She also offers a lot of extra credit opportunities, however it's easy to get an A without them.
This was an extremely difficult class for me to take online. The class only had four exams and some extra credit. Unfortunately, geology is a class that really could use some assignments. She gives the option of completing 8 assignments and using the average of those assignments to replace your lowest test score, but the assignments are very hard!
This class was really hard to take online. There were four exams, each worth 25% of your grade, and that was it. If you do not understand the material, you really are at a loss for getting help. You have the option of completing 8 assignments of which the average can replace your lowest exam grade, but the assignments are extremely difficult!
Lytwyn is a sweet-hearted lady. Make sure you attendwatch the lectures, take notes, and take the practice quizzes! Homework really is not hard, and she'll let you replace your lowest test grade with your average homework grade. You can do well in this class as long as you put in some effort!
Dr. Lytwyn isn't one of the most interesting professors out there. Sure she may read off of her powerpoint slides, but all the information you need to be prepared for her tests are there. Most important rule of thumb is to do the "self-test" for each chapter before your exams. She uses similar questions and similar answers on the exams.

She reads off powerpoints then posts them online. 4 tests make up your grade but the material is really dry. The homework assignments for extra credit are difficult but you do have the option of a group project for extra credit. NOT an easy A.
easy. 3 tests + 1 final. no homework, (only assignments are for extra credit, replaces your lowest test grade). field trips are your extra credits too! majority of the questions on the test are on her slides & practice exams. allowed to have 1 makeup exam if you miss an exam (not including final).
She seems like a nice lady but this class is no joke. She is a horrible grader and the class is far too tough for a freshman level science course. She could really add easier extra credit and give curves on the test. Don't expect an A.
This class is not tough but you do have to put in the time to read and view the lectures. I took her class online and she did not assign any homework assignments so the full weight of your grade fall on your test grades. If you look over the slides and watch the lecture, you should be fine.
Took Geol 1330 online and this was the hardest class ever. Class consist of 4 exams and one can be replaced with the assignment grade. All tests are at Testing Centers, and they are extremely hard. You have to really read everything before taking the test. Like anything from the 4 chapters is fair game. Would not recommend this class to anyone.

the other reviewers are tripping. this is the easiest class ever!! the only thing you need to do is do all the learning assessment. and read the powerpoints. almost all of the questions from the LA are on the tests so thats like a free 3055 answers if not more. I think all you have to do is learn to memorize cause i only studied the day off.
Read and outline all the chapters. Read and outline all of the lecture notes. Do the practice tests! So many test questions come from practice tests. Don't have to watch lecture videos. Overall the class was pretty easy if you put in the effort. I got two As and two Cs on my exams and still received an A-
I cant really say much, it was mostly an online class. If you thoroughly read your book and study the chapters, you can make a pretty good grade on the few test that are there.

I took this class online. Only the exams were mandatory. All assignments were optional for extra credit. As long as you watch the video lectures and practice the self-tests before exams, you will do fine. She is very nice and I found all of the lectures to be interesting. She is very clear in her teaching. Great professor.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. She expects you to literally remember everything she says on her power-points for the tests, doesn't give good extra credit and does not work with the students! There are way more easier classes you can take to fill a science elective. If it is an elective, there are way more teachers that are easy to understand. TRUST ME !
4 exams make up your entire grade. Read and write down the slides, helps remember the material. I never watched a lecture video, started studying 2-3 days before the exam and made earned an A in the class. Each exam covers a lot of material, so study as long as you need to cram the material in your head.
Grade is based on 4 tests. After failing the first two tests, I realized all I had to do was do the self tests to pass. Did the self tests for the last two tests over and over and over again until I memorized the answers, took the tests and aced them both. DO THE SELF TESTS.
If you can manage your time and study habits, take this course. 4 tests (25% each). Optional assignments can be used to replace 1 of the first 3 tests. You have extra credit opportunities. Skim through the chapters, study the power points, know what the pictures project. The study guide has helped me, but not mandatory. Do the self tests. Easy A.
Easy A. 4 test, extra credit opportunities if needed. I'd say don't bother with them because they are time consuming and difficult and you can do just fine without them. Be sure to speed up lectures to 2.0 faster, made my life a lot easier. 25 min lectures instead of 50. Review notes & memorize the self test answers & you'll do well.

There are a total of 4 tests. There are extra credit assignments available that will replace your lowest test score. She provides review material for each test. The subject matter isn't the most interesting, but she presents it in a way that's easily understandable. If you need a science credit, then take this class. Easy A.
Dislike the subject but Professor Lytwyn knows her stuff. She reads much from the slides and adds some stuff. She had 4 exams and extra credit. A little dissapointed in grade but it was just too much to memorize and as I said I disliked the subject.
The reviews for this class made it seem like an easy course to pass however you must read the chapters, take the self tests, do the optional assignments, study a lot, and watch the lectures in order to have a shot at a good grade. This is not a blow off class. If you do not put the work in, you will not get an A or a B.
She has 4 tests, and one can be replaced with the average of the optional hw she assigns. I made 2 As and 2 Cs on the tests; my hw average was a low A and overall I ended up with an A in the class. WATCH THE LECTURES AND STUDY THE SLIDES. You have to understand the material in order to excel. It is def. not a blow off class, study 2-3 days before!
Take thorough notes on the slideshows! Grade is based off of 4 Exams: know the vocabulary on the study guides & study for the Self-tests on each chapter a few weeks before each exam. The textbook helps with understanding course content, but not required. Not an easy professor. Her online course is more time-consuming than most face to face classes.
You must be willing to put in a lot of work for your grade. This class took up a lot of my time because there was so much information to comprehend and I really wasn't that into it.

There are 4 tests, and they were easy because of the self tests (your new best friends) and the optional assignments. Some questions in the self tests are in the exam, which is very helpful. The optional assignments replace the lowest 1st 3 exams. This class is easy if you use the self tests, the assignments, and ppt slides to study.
The reviews on here made me think this would be a blow off class, IT IS NOT. Too much information given and she reads the slides way too fast to take down notes, so you have to take notes at home. Optional homeworks, very hard. Optional group project. Tests were hard because of all the information that has to be memorized. Would not take again.

THE WORST CLASS EVER. everybody said geology is the easiest science class at UH, but she makes it very to difficult to even pass the class. i took physics 1 and 2 and made A in both classes but I'm struggling to pass this class. class average is low 60s in all the exams. exams are nothing like self-tests or even power points ! DO NOT RECOMMEND

I WOULD NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER RECOMMEND THIS TO ANYONE. The lectures are long and boring bc she reads them in verbatim. The test are nothing like the self-test & the review sessions are just a repeat of the powerpoints - the class average is below 60. If I would have known I would have NEVER taken this class. Please don't make the same mistake
I took the class based on prior reviews and it turned out to be pretty challenging. The lectures are very long, and not interesting at all. 4 tests make up your grade. Do not take this class if you are looking for an easy A. You will definitely have to work hard for an A. Tests are basically repeating everything covered on the lecture slides.
Took her online class thinking it was gonna be a blow off class, it definitely is not. Gives many extra credit opportunities but her tests are pretty difficult if you don't study. 8 assignments will replace lowest test grade but overall wouldn't recommend this class, its a lot of work.
Do not take this class! Her lectures are long and boring, and over way too much material. Then she'll hold test reviews but get there early because if you miss any of it, she won't go over it again. She's not rude, just out of touch. I would never take this class again. I had to work hard just to make a B-. Make sure to do extra stuff she has.
Took class online and it was really hard understanding the lectures. Review sessions didn't help because all she did was read from the powerpoints. The only way to pass is by doing every homework assignment and know all the self-study questions. You want an A, then you will have to work really hard for it.
This class was a breeze compared to my other classes. I spent a few hours in the couple of days before the exams to watch all the lectures and do the self-reviews and made an A. The reviews are questions straight from the tests so make sure to memorize them well and you are at least guaranteed to pass. Sure, an A takes some effort but not much.
This class is definitely not a blow-off class. I took this online thinking it should be easy to self study...I ended up putting this class as my #2 priority class right after Managerial Accounting. Professor was very lenient and extended deadlines for missed assignments. I would suggest not taking this class online, consider taking it face to face.
DONT i repeat DONT take this class. Geology is supposed to be relatively an easier class but not with her. Her lectures are super long and she moves way to fast, and her tests?? Not easy at all, you will have to study very hard. Her class average is barely passing and she takes forever to respond to emails. Please take my advice.
Her lectures are prerecorded on YouTube, you could basically read the lecture slides yourself because she reads them for you during "lecture" so don't waste your time. She was quick to respond and offered extra credit, but I wouldn't take her again.

Her class is ALOT of boring information & her review sessions are not that helpful and are on Saturdays. she offers extra credit but its hard , doesn't take attendance or respond to emails in time, dry monotone voice, worst class ever! I asked her for help after she gave me help 1time she told me "there is nothing she can do to help me"
Read the syllabus. Get the 5% extra credit (easy & worth it). Do the optional assignments -- you get 2 chances for each assignment and you can look at what you got wrong the first time and find out the right answers. Good time management and following the syllabus it should be an easy A. The 4 exams are based off the self tests. Read, Listen, Do...
Her tests are tough and only some questions come from the self tests. I would not take this online with her if possible. I got an A the first time for Geology but the second time with this professor I ended up with a B. Too much work for an online geology class.
Her Assignments are all optional, but your grade is based on exams alone. Avoid taking her, the class is so lecture heavy and she speaks so monotone, it is almost impossible to retain any information. The self tests help because SOME of the same questions are on the actual exam, but most of the stuff on the exam we don't even go over in class.
Your grade is only based on the average of all four exams. I never bought the textbook and I don't think it is necessary. Her online lectures are Youtube videos and are really boring. Most of the questions on the exam are on the self tests. This class would probably be easier when taken during the summer. Lots of extra credit opportunities.
Study the self test, memorize them, and read the power points several times over. Be able to identify all picture examples on the power points because a few will pop up on the exams. I found the correct answers to questions I got wrong on the power points, so if you memorize everything you should get an A. You will get what time you put in.
Nice professor, but you really have to work and study VERY HARD to even hope to pass. Look over the lecture slide POWERPOINTS and SELF TESTS!!. She words things differently than the book and her tests go more off of her own words, so the book is really just to keep you on track. Assignments are optional but can really help your grade in the end.
I took this course entirely online, so I didn't really get to know the prof too well, but the class was easy enough if you study and do the self tests. There's an extra credit opportunity to replace your lowest exam grade with an average of 8 optional assignments. I highly recommend doing that!
Do not take this professor!!! Her lecture slides are worded different from the book, and most of the stuff on the test isn't even covered in her lectures. Do the extra credit assignments and self tests because the exams alone are hard . You will have to study extremely hard to even HOPE to pass.
i only touch the power point a day before each test, took me the whole day to study though. 75 % of the self test questions are in the exam. there are a lots of thing to study for each test, so if you study hard enough then you will be fine. test score range is above 100 pts, so a few extra pts each test.
For me the class was easy. Read the slides & do self tests (practice tests). TAKE THIS CLASS IF GOOD AT SHORT TERM MEMORIZING, which is why it was easy for me. Information heavy, but its an online course so manage your time, study +3 days prior to exam. Textbook not required, power points have small details so read carefully. Don't watch lectures.
People say the Exams are like self tests and to memorize them, but let me warn you my tests were NOT. The exams were impossible, and I did memorize the Self Tests as well as listen to most power points. Do all extra credit possibilities as they may just save your grade. I had no choice but to take this class, if you have options take someone else!!
Very hard class. Only four grades all of which were tests. Not very clear as to what will be on them. STUDY THE PRACTICE TESTS. You will at least pass with those. Very hard for an online class. Would not recommend.
I signed up for the course bc people said it was easy. It was not as easy as I thought. You only have 4 grades (which are test) there are 8 optional assignment which the avg would replace the lowest test grade and 1 extra credit assignment but that didn't change the fact that lectures didnt help for tests and she is monotone and only read ppts.
12HW, 3 tests. Went to most of lectures. Understood and payed attention during lectures. She doesn't remind you when they are due and if you miss more than 1 then your SOL. the average of hw replaces lowest test since they are optional. make sure you do really well on first test because it is easiest. Tests are hard only because of the wording.
DO NOT take this teacher if you are a non-science major. Worst teacher I have ever taken. Her lecture notes are way to long online. ONE LECTURE can be as long as 3 hours. (Depending on the week you may need 3 LECTURES) Then reading the textbook AND homework. She communicates slow too. Run.
Maybe it was because it was an online class, but this was by far the hardest class I have taken. I studied a lot and yet barely passed the exams. Not sure if she curves, but over all this class is heavy memorization. She explains things a lot of times as if we had previous Geology classes.
For the love of humanity please do not take this teacher. If you are thinking about taking this class you've already made your first mistake. This class is based off 4 tests which will suck the life out of you as you try to figure out what is going on. This online class is easy enough if you do the reading. There are 8 optional assignments and that averaged score will replace your lowest exam score, and doing the self-tests provided on Blackboard are a great way to study for the exams. Just do the reading, take good notes on the reading, and you'll pass.
I took this course as a science elective; that being said, this course, especially being online, is too intensive. I feel like I spent too much time and effort on a course I will, with only a shadow of a doubt, memory dump. If you've got a job, children, or lack of time, don't take this class. Textbook is absolutely worthless, but "required."
Alright, honest review here. I took the online version of the class and only studied about 2 days before the each test. 4 tests total and I managed to get an A in the class, however, with some lucky guess on the tests. Don't buy the textbook because you probably don't need it. Study the powerpoints and memorize self-test, and you will at least pass
The class is structured so that there is one chapter covered a week. I personally didn't buy the book and just listened to the lectures. There are 1-3 50 min lectures per week along with a practice test which is a great study tool. 3 tests taken in CASA and an extra credit group project. 8 optional assignments cover your lowest test grade.
EASIEST class I've taken at UH. 4 Exams, of which consists mainly of 'Self-Test' questions. There is also opportunities to boost your grade such as group project and doing the optional assignments.
This class with this professor is ridiculous. I took it as a mini-mester in the summer (full summer semester) and she expects a huge amount of work to be done each week in order to pass her class. If you can take any other class with any other professor i highly recommend doing so. It has been one of my hardest class at UH and I'm on my 3rd year
This class was all about reading if you wanted a for sure A, however if you're cool with a B here's exactly how I got a B. Literally memorized all of the chapter practice tests bc they are word for word the same on the test, and then I did the group project(easy) and the orientation quiz for extra credit. There's also more extra credit oppurtunity

Alright so the class is out of 100 points like almost every other class and each test is worth 25%, but the actual tests are out of 104 points(hurts overall average). I should easily have a B in this class but I'm stuck at a 79 because of the test set up. Also the class average for every test isn't above a 76 but there isnt a curve.
Ms. Lytwyn's class is not easy. Rocks is not easy. It is specific information. you will not pass this class studying. she offers extra credit and you will need it
I was hesitant to take her based on the previous reviews, but I'm glad I did. There is a lot of reading, but the exams are basically the self-tests. As long as you're generally aware of the material and do an overview of it before the tests (and memorize the self-tests!), it's hard to fail. Taking her again next semester.
Full online, do homework get a test replaced, easy tests that get curved, most questions come from self studys. easy A
If you're the kind of person that can sit through a monotone powerpoint presentation as a lecture and actually learn something, this class may be for you. The only grades come from your tests, which were so in depth you have to have the book memorized to do well. The average for each test in the class was around 75 with no curve added.
In both GEO1330/1340 you just need to read the lecture slides, don't watch the videos unless you are looking for something to push you to commit suicide, and do the self tests and study guide(1330). 1330 is so boring it's pretty much just rocks, i highly recommend 1340 over it. Grades are based on 4 tests. She added 5% to the total grade in both.

It is true your grade is based on 4 tests, your hw replaces your lowest score and there is extra credit. I have failed literally every test so far. And I do study, and try but I have yet to pass. I want to die.
This is definitely not an easy A class, she makes you work for it. Although majority her your grade is just tests, the tests aren't easy (STUDY SELF TESTS!!). She does give extra credit opportunities though, so that helps.
If you don't mind studying a large amount of powerpoint slides, then you will do OK in this class. The average of your 4 exams is your grade. Homework is optional. Offers 5 points total of extra credit and in-person exam review sessions. I personally did well, but don't take her if you have a difficult time studying on your own.

Average of them replaces lowest test grade. I took this course online, paid for the textbook but honestly just study self tests and the powerpoint slides.

To teach the course, she just has students watch youtube videos of lectures recorded several years ago. She does offer review sessions on Saturdays before tests, but if you have a work schedule that doesn't allow you to be there, there's no recording or document for that. The tests are extremely hard - don't take this prof for intro geology.

I took this class online this semester and let me tell you, It is by no means a blow off. BUT do not let the comments here scare you. I would start studying 2-3 Days in Advance depending on how much material is assigned. Just watch the videos on a high speed; understand and do the self tests. Do NOT slack, just put in 2-3 days of work before a test
This is literally the worst professor I have had in my entire college career. Some extra credit offered but the only grades are the tests. Professor is almost impossible to get ahold of and since I was a distance-learning student this was a huge problem. This class felt more like an upper level class as opposed to being an Introduction to Geology
I'm in Computer Science. I took this class for my science req, and boy it was difficult. If you're not the type to like learning about rocks, read the textbook. Front to back. Everyone says you shouldn't and to just watch the videos, but trust me - the videos are 30-50 mins and you're not going to live through all of it.
i was skeptical of taking this class bc of the reviews, but here is how i got an A. I studied all the slides, quizlets & self tests to the finest details. I began studying 2 days before. DO THE EXTRA CREDIT (group project, course quiz, optional assignments) its literally what saved my grade. you'd be dumb not to do them!!! def would take her again!
I took this course online so it was easy and at your own pace. There are 4 exams and optional assignments as well as a group project for extra credit. I didn't do the optional assignments nor the group project and I still managed to get an A in the class. I only studied the self tests, lecture slides, and the quizlets people made for the exam.

By reading I mean reading the lectures before the test. I watched the lecture vids for the first test and got a 90. The rest of the tests I just read the lecture notes before my test and got B's. Ended the class with a A- and was expecting a B. There was an easy project that gave me 3 points and she gave 4 point as a curve I guess. Cake cake cake!!

She reads straight from the powerpoints and has an incredibly dry, monotone voice. I have ADD and I swear it's never been so bad as it has been in this class. You have to make sure to read/study the ppts- it's memorization heavy. The only redeeming quality is that there are mutiple extra credit opportunities. Overall, just find a diff professor.
Don't take this class. If you are an honors Business student who needs a credit this is not an easy A at all. Take this class at your local community college for a lot cheaper & a lot easier. Only four test which she averages and best extra credit opportunity is the assignments. Does not respond to emails and really poor teacher overall.

Do not listen to all of the low ratings on this teacher. People these days expect every college class to be an super easy A, and get mad when it's not. I read the chapters, watched the online lectures, took the self-tests, and studied - and I made an A. The tests do not require critical thinking - just understand the material. And do extra credit!
Your final grade is determined by the average of 4 exams. Just do and study the self tests and you'll be OK because the exams have the same questions basically. I wish I'd studied harder but it's an easy A if you study the tests at least 2 days in advance.
If you want an easy online science class RUN!!! This was the HARDEST CLASS I have ever taken! Based on four exams that is ALL!!! Able to do 10 optional assignments and the average of them replace lowest test grade. She gives reviews but they are USELESS for exam days, which you have to take at CASA! My advice take another professor!
The tests werent too bad but the self tests she offers helps a lot. I think if I were to just study her lectures and there was no self test practices offered I would honestly fail. Its so much to study but I made a B and she offers easy extra credit and curves a lot.
This class was low maintenance. 4 exams and optional assignments. I didnt want to spend the money on a book so I didnt do the assignments. She curved because I got a better grade than was I earned.
Anyone who says this class is hard is lazy lol because I made As on my tests. The tests are self tests & few other questions but they all come from the slides. Although it requires you to read, this class is an easy A. She offers a lot of extra credits make sure you do them !!!! Plus she curves the overall grade. I ended up with 101. Just take it!
Class was extremely textbook/lecture heavy. Tests ranged from average difficulty, to pretty hard because of some very specific questions. I got an A, but it took a lot of time and effort to earn. However, the professor offered lots of extra credit opportunities, which was great.
There are so many good and bad reviews that are true, she might be a great professor, but I do not see the point To mention accommodations in the syllabus if she is not willing to give it. The only advice I would give, if you feel like an emergency that push you to take your exam off campus occurs, DO NOT take her class. She will make you drop it.
Her class is incredibly test heavy. Tests are pretty much your only grade unless you choose to do optional assignments/projects. She doesn't take attendance but all she does is read off the slides she posts on blackboard.
I am not exaggerating when I say this is by far the rudest professor I have ever had. I am taking her class online and she is the hardest to get in touch with. Every encounter I have had with her she has been harsh and hostile. Your grade is based off of four tests and the learning process is through mind numbing lecture videos. Save your money.
Ive attended the University of Houston for four years now and in my time here I have always managed to find at least one redeemable quality in even the worst professor. Unfortunately, I can now say that I have met the single worst professor on campus and cannot find a single redeeming quality. Rude, inadequate reviews for tests, and useless.
All I did was take notes on the powerpoint slides, and did the self-tests, and got at least a 90 on all 4 tests. Several questions on each test come from the textbook only. Make sure you do the extra credit to increase your class grade.
The most boring and hardest class ever. I listened to the other reviews saying that the people failing were lazy. No, this was the most I ever studied for a class and still failed. If this class is required pay for all the extra credit, you'll need it trust me. All her lectures are 2 45 minute videos per chapter and her voice is so dull.
Get familiar with the self tests and keep up with the module schedule in the syllabus. Lectures were pretty boring and fairly lengthy. Study the notes and remember some specific examples (i.e Mineral chapter asking if graphite and diamond are polymorphs) before the test, and you should do well.
She's an okay professor. She mainly just reads off of the powerpoints in her online videos, though of course, she does go into more detail with them every now and then. The first test was a cakewalk, the second test was a nightmare. The fact that our only grades are based on our tests doesn't really help, either...
Whole class grade is made up of 4 tests, all are based on the power point slides and a few of the questions are from the textbook. As long as you take notes on the slides and do the self-tests before exams you should get around a 90 on each of them. Do the extra credit to boost your class grade by 3 points.
DONT TAKE HER The only grades you get are 4 exams, and then 10 HW assignments that you have to pay $50 for and a group project that are barely worth any extra credit points. Her tests are so unfair to the point where you can study for weeks over all the material and still fail! Its all about luck and hoping your test is easier than the other person
Not what I expected for 1340 class. Only took this class for a filler. No textbook. Lots of video lectures but she does post PowerPoints for the chapters. Exams are sort of tricky. READ! Self tests are sometimes are on the exams. Heard that she may not respond to emails nicely.
In my eyes, this class is NOT worth it. Studying for this class was the absolute worst. It would go from atmospheric levels to water to clouds to chemistry (basically random topics combined in "one chapter"). Each chapter slide is over 14 pages long with 6 slides on each page and for the tests its 3 or 4 chapters. GM was confused most of the time.
Your grade is based solely on 4 tests, with some extra credit. One extra credit option you have to pay to access and the other is a group project. What is covered on the tests comes from the video lectures. She gives self-tests and lots of test questions come from there. I started studying for my tests a few days before and got A's, easy class.
I read the chapters and went over the lectures a few times. Also, I did the self-tests and received an A on all four exams. About half of the questions come from the self-tests, memorize them. This was one of the easiest classes I have ever taken. Read, review the lectures, and do the self-tests and you will pass.
Around 10 hours of lecture videos with a very bad audio. Very painful, you will pass if you get lucky with the tests having self test questions. Overall, keep away if you want your brain and ears to be spared.

I took this class online and the first exam was an easy A. After that I feel like it went down hill. Everything was tougher. She has the review posted but sometimes I felt like the exam questions werent on the power point or review. This is online so you have to teach yourself, but I felt like it was a lot of memorizing. And a lot of tedious work.

There is a lot of extra credit opportunity so i would pay the $70 for the extra 10 points, thatll make the difference. Id go with another professor.
Her lectures are powerpoints and aren't very engaging. The grade for the class is based on 4 tests which she will sometimes curve if the class average is too low. She also posts powerpoints and has a test review so there is no reason to not pass this class.
This is the worst professor I've seen in real life. I've never left a review on here before, but she is so bad that I had to. Save yourself the trouble, and take this course either through CC, or another professor. This course should be a blowoff class, and she takes it so seriously. She does not teach. All she did for my class was read off of powerpoints and show videos. What truly helped with this class was study groups and interaction with other classmates. It's a fairly easy class but the exams hold most of the grade weight so be prepared to study. DO NOT TRY TO CRAM.
Hardest class ever. All youre graded on is test basically and then some extra credit. The practice test and study guides are nothing like the test, and its impossible to figure out. If youre just taking the class for credit with zero interest, go to CC. Only reason I passed is because I got 10 points extra credit from 3 different assignments.
Took online class, did not use textbooks, instead used slideshows the professor uploaded to study for the test. This class also had extra credit opportunities but if you don't want to do that then grade is based off the 4 test.
She is a miserable person and excuse for a professor. During this pandemic, a student told her she did not have access to a computer with the lockdown browser and she told her to BUY A NEW ONE. She makes this class harder than it needs to be, so be sure to go over everything she has available for tests bc they are HARD. DON'T TAKE HER CLASS.
I took her Geology online. She borrows lectures from some other professor, but he is really good. Thoroughly enjoyed his teachings. Her class doesn't have a heavy workload, but you need to know the information for the tests. Gives a lot of options for extra credit, but I honestly didn't need them. If you work hard, you get an A.

The worst class I have ever taken. They only have her teach the core classes online just so you can get a low grade. The reviews are nothing like the test. This school purposely bases some of these courses just off 4 exams to give you a greater chance to spend more money to retake. Or get a low grade for taking online. Youll regret taking her.
This class is heavy in tests and very minute details which made me suffer in exams. Memorization is key when taking the tests.
The grade is consisted of 4 test averages plus extra credit. Although it's a lot of information, it's possible to get an A by just memorizing the slides before the tests. Also, she responds nicely and quickly when I had trouble with turning in stuff online for extra credit. If you actually put in effort in this class, you should be fine.
If you're looking for an easy science class, this is NOT it. The only grades are her incredibly hard tests. She has long power points and it's all about memorization. She does have reviews that barely help, if at all. Do not take this class if it's with this professor. The one redeeming quality was the extra credit.

Pretty easy she posts links to video lectures & I would just watch them on fast speed & jot some notes down then study/memorize info. from the ppt pdfs posted. You NEED to know your stuff so actually study & memorize. There are EC opportunities & the practice tests help a lot so study those too. Not the easiest A you do have to study but do-able
The professor uses other professor's lectures and does not teach. She only posts powerpoints and expects us to learn the entire exam. Furthermore, the exams are not related to the powerpoints.
For the love of God don't take this class if you value your sanity. There are 4 tests and each one has around 10-13 hours of lectures to go through, and if you don't watch them you have no way of passing the tests. Tests are about 70% from the lectures, 30% random nonsense. The amount of effort required to pass is NOT worth it. Take something else!

Look, GEOL 1340 is not hard at all. The exams are memorization of the lectures and understanding the concepts will make an easy A. The problem is that the lectures are SUPER boring. I did not get an A because I could not bring myself to go through the long and boring lectures. Lots of extra credit, but most of it is behind optional PAID assignments
You definitely have to put in effort for this class. There are a lot of lectures. Make sure to watch them because the exams rely heavily on the lectures. There are 4 exams and two good extra credit opportunities to boost your grade ( you have to pay for one of them though). The professor responds fast to emails and is helpful in clearing doubts.
If you are not good in science don't even take her pick someone else. I thought I could study enough to get a high grade but NO extra credit saved me. That being said there are assignments you can pay for that will give you extra credit so if there is no other option and you have to take the class then I advise you pay the extra forty dollars.
Unless you're good at self-paced studying, avoid at all costs. Geology is mind-numbingly boring for me, so listening to lectures was quite a struggle. The grade distributions may look good, but that's only due to her giving us bonus points galore. The average on tests was between 70-72, but the class average was like a 88.
GEOL 1340 is an easy A. There are only 4 tests, which are all just memorization of the lectures. Just memorize lecture notes and concepts and practice questions for each units. The lectures are boring, but get through them by going over lectures over time. Final average is curved (a lot) with tons of extra credit (but most has to be bought).
If you have another option other than taking this prof, take the other option. You are graded based on 4 tests but there are mindtap assignments and field trips you can do for extra credit. DO. THEM. You have to pay for mindtap but I promise it's worth it. And for the tests study the practice tests hard. Trust me those are the most helpful.
This was the HARDEST course I have ever taken and the first course I have EVER failed. I think the lectures are outdated seeing as they date back to 2016 and it is now 2021. The exams are EXTREMELY difficult to pass. Do yourself the favor and DO NOT take this course.
This class is way too hard for a 1,000 level geology credit. You're mainly graded off 4 exams. Everything else (homework, field trips, group project) is for optional credit. Now that may seem generous, but trust me you'll need it the exams are unnecessarily hard she goes over too much content even her reviews are too broad worst class taken so far.
She is nice enough, but the exams are HARD. I studied for hours and hours and made multiple study guides, and I still could not get better than a D. I don't think the exams are a fair representation of the material. There was stuff on the exams I don't remember ever reading or learning about. Average exam score in my class was a 60, so.

Do the extra credit, study the slides, and take the unit tests. 17.25 points of extra credit possible. 10 for Pearson 6 for field trips, and 1.25 for the syllabus quiz. I recommend UH rocks and the Mantle field trip. 2 pts each the others are worth 3.

I have taken asychronous classes before, and none of them were nearly this bad. The lectures are unbearably long and cover so much material that you don't even know what is going to be covered. Practice tests are given but barely help with the test. Just take another science credit, this isn't worth it.
Not an easy A unless you do the extra credit that you need to pay for and watch the extremely long boring videos. The tests use the lockdown browser with camera on. Your grade is really only based by 4 tests that have around 50 questions each. The stuff in the tests can range from pretty easy to not at all talked about during the review videos.

This class is the worst class I have ever taken. The lectures, self-tests, and videos help very little on exams, which are very complex &very hard to answer. Only one or two self-test questions show up on the exams. Exams make up most of the grades (which is unfair). You have to pay to do the extra credit (which is also unfair).
This course has 4 exams that count towards your overall final grade. These exams are based on lecture and books and rarely one or two questions from the practice exams. As such, the exams are difficult so you should really prepare before the exams. Seeing as the exams are difficult, you should do the extra credit assignment and virtual field trip.

All the tests are based on the PowerPoint slides/lectures. Do the extra credit group project. Overall, this class is straightforward. If you take your notes and watch the lectures properly you'll easily pass this class. It's mostly memorization.
Gives tons of extra credit if you buy/do smartbook activities and do the fieldtrips. I did it without the extra credit, and did really well. Exams are Saturdays/Mondays (she puts in extra credit questions as well). Just take good notes on lecture and do the study guide and you'll be fine.
Professor Lytwyn's class was super easy to navigate and is very organized. Quizzes are due for each module and 4 exams total. No cumulative final exam. Really great course to boost my GPA and satisfy my requirements. I got an A- doing just the bare minimum, I did not even do the 6% extra credit she offers toward your grade. Def recommend.
Professor Lytwyn is great. My course was online and she was easy to reach out to. Exams and quizzes are on schedule, and she allows open notes. Extra credit PowerPoint available to submit alone or in a group. Overall, very relaxed course with clear instructions and expectations and a calendar available to see all due dates ahead of time.

This class was not a hard one to take, quizzes every week and then test but anytime you ask a question through email she is very rude and does not help instead she tells you to figure it out yourself.

had a family member pass away, so i asked if she would let me turn in any missed assignments at a later date bc of the funeral and she said "you can still access the course in cali". obviously, but was I supposed to wipe my tears to read about rocks?? pull my laptop out at the funeral???
Awful awful professor, not only is the material a lot it's also really boring. She literally gives 50 minutes for each exam and it has 50+ questions. I made the mistake of taking her do not do it no matter how easy you think it's gonna be it's not unless you're genuinely interested in geology. If it's just for science credit don't do it.
We literally just have tests and quizzes. No other assignments. Just tests and quizzes. Normally, I would be like hey, easy class, no homework; nice. However, her tests are 4 units/test, & 50 questions in 50 minutes for multiple choice conceptual geological questions. It would've been nice to have SOME homework or at least have tests weigh
Professor Lytwyn is your average professor. Yes, every class is a lecture and she reads off the slides, but it's not awful. Weekly open note quizzes. Grade is based on 4 tests, but they are also open note. I printed the lecture slides and took notes on them during the lecture, and it helped a lot on tests. Extra credit opportunity.

Honestly very difficult to reach out to the professor. 4 exams in total and worth a very large portion of your grade, tests are open notes however not similar to the slides AT ALL found myself going on YouTube to self teach. Final grade is based on quiz and exams, and no homework as a buffer. Would not recommend.
Absolute garbage. Extremely test heavy. Says that the test is open note but none of the notes she gives us even slightly relate to the test. Does not prepare students for success and when tests are worth 80 percent of your grade, you will not succeed in this class.
4 Exams, worth 20% each. Quizzes are the other 20%. They are all open note. Printing slides helps, though you have a little less than a minute per question, so you have to read fast. Glancing at the slides before the test is helpful! I was very sick for a week, and she did let me take a retest, but would not let me go back and do quizzes I missed.
Genuinely, I'd recommend looking for any other professor if you needed this class. For an entry-level course, the tests are insane. Weekly quizzes, no homework, and her tests do not correlate with the reviews. Does not give us enough tools to prepare for exams. Very hard to get in contact with; missed one quiz, hasn't responded two weeks later.
15 quizzes & 4 tests at 80% of total grade (none dropped) The tests are very hard & timed less than a min per question,60 questions. Tests are open note slides, however none of the endless YouTube videos, lectures or articles assigned are relevant to the actual Tests, maybe 10%, you are left to use an educated guess.
This prof clearly does not care about the well being of her students. 80 percent of grade is tests and 20 percent is quizzes. She offers extra credit, but it is a ton of work. I did all of the work and spent 10ish hours on it and she denied it and did not give me the credit. Just awful.
The online class is straightforward. There are many quizzes like most people said but you're able to use the printed lecture slides. It doesn't get any easier than that. Some of the slides didn't completely match the ones she used in the lectures however 98% of the material is found in the slides (or in lecture video) for use on quizzes and exams.

Easiest among the life and physical sciences. Quizzes and exams are simple with material coming right out of lecture slides. Also, DO NOT buy the textbook. A major con is students were allocated 50 minutes for 50+ questions, but quizzes of 20 questions, you received 60 minutes. To achieve an A or A-, do extra credit group projects.

This course is exam heavy, if you have no option just know that if you give yourself the full day to study and look at the reviews you'll be fine. You can also use your notes for the exam and the slides. Keep in mind that there's SO MANY slides, also she reuses quiz questions on the exams.

Test questions come from a bank, need to know random details. Tests are open note, my method was to compile all details from lecture notes and quizzes into a few pages in small font. I also skimmed the textbook. Doing this will help with knowing details by heart and saving time on the test. I didn't do extra credit and got an A, had 88 exam avg.
This class is by far the hardest class i had to take due to how spread out the info was in the course. she makes you read the chapter, watch 2-3 videos per chapter (40min+ per video), and makes you read the slides. if you do not do all of them you will not do good on the tests because she uses info from all of those.
The lectures can be long, but the class consists mainly of quizzes; it's not bad if you study, and the exams are a bit challenging, but the review and notes she offers help. She also does give an extra credit opportunity
It was an online class. 20% of the grade is quizzes and 80% on 4 tests. The tests were hard and we were given very little time (even though we had access to the printed notes during the exams, they were not of much help). You have to study. I did well by just studying her guided notes and watching her video lectures. I didn't read the book.
Quizzes are easy. Open note tests that are challenging since we don't get enough time to do them. Tests have some quiz questions,so save questions and answers from the quizzes as you do them bc you can't access them later. I recommend watching the review modules before tests to do better. Extra credit group project. Curves grade at end of semester.
She sucks, countless stories where she wouldn't help students and she would either laugh in their faces or say 'whatever' when they would ask for an extension. Make sure you don't miss a single quiz. Those things make or break your A in the class. The extra credit is nice, just don't go on the field trip its way too hot for that, go on the VFT's

Exams are 80% of the grade and to success you have to find all the info from textbook very ugly, confusing slides and quizzes and memorize all of them 'cause even tho notes are allowed in exams there isn't enough time to check them for each very specific question. Professor Lytwyn assignment's and quizzes were not bad. She weighs her exams at 80 percent of your grade, and although she has an open note test she gives 1 minute per question. She has an exuberant amount of reading that would need to be absorbed in depth to be able to pass any of her exams. TAKE SOMEONE ELSE!!!!!!!!
Took this teacher for 1340 and 1303, same format; Easy class as long as you print out the PowerPoints; Open note tests but little time to do them; Quizzes were short but not worth that much of your grade; Not a very good teacher but online made it easier;

God don't take this professor her weight method is so flawed it's so frustrating the exams account for 80% of the class grade with assignments accounting for 20%. This would be fine if she didn't also assign 2-3 assignments a week. The exams are uncurved and no assignments are dropped, once you fail there's no way out.

Too difficult for an intro level class, EXAMS ARE WORTH 80% OF GRADE AND QUIZZES/ASSIGMENTS BARELY HELP. If there are no classes available, just wait till next semester to take a different professor if you care about your GPA.
This isn't that bad of a class didn't watch a single lecture video but still got an A. I do recommend watching the reviews and printing out the notes. Before the tests make sure you memorize all the quiz questions so you can answer them in a couple seconds so you can spend the rest of the time looking up the answers on the notes.
Reviews before are mostly accurate, but exaggerated. Grade is very exam dependent, and lectures are pre-recorded videos of her reading off the slides. Exams are open-notes, does not get much easier than that. You can get away with watching the exam review videos near exam day and relying on a good set of notes. The extra credit was very easy.
Instructor never responded my emails. She lacks complete comprehension and she likes to just let the class flow without answering nothing.

Don't take this class! Difficult for intro and not enough time to take exams. Ridiculous rules about the timing you can take tests despite being an asynchronous class. The professor requires you to be on camera for exams with lots of questions despite not teaching anything(unless you count reading from slides).
I'm not sure what this professor's problem is I genuinely think she wants students to do badly. I don't know if she's annoyed with people taking it for the credit but she needs to be teaching an elective or something. Awful experience, very disappointing as you can tell she's well informed on Geology, just weirdly anti-student. DO NOT TAKE.
This course is based solely on exams they are literally 80% of our grade. It doesn't matter if you get a 100 on your assignments if the exam grades aren't good you're not good. Also she doesn't answer her emails or anything. I think I'm going to drop the class to save my GPA. Lastly the extra credit isn't even a lot smh.
Out of my 3 years of college, I have never come across a teacher that hates her students this much. She should not be a professor nor around people. She has no heart at all, and I pray that one day she finds a reason to smile. If you love your life, don't take her.

Not a bad professor, I took her earth systems class online. She is an older woman, I met her in person once and she was pretty friendly. Class is straightforward, 4 tests for 80%. You have 1-2 assignments a week, and all the questions and answers are on Quizlet. Tests are respondus lockdown browser from home. Just be ready to self-study.
All you have to do to be successful in this course is watch the lectures and take the notes. The people that are telling you to beware of this course or this professor was most likely lazy and didn't do the work they needed to do to be successful.
I thought the reviews were exaggerating but they were not wrong. You have to study study if you want to do really well in this class. The big exams have 50 questions and we only get 50 minutes for it, that basically means once you look at the question you have to know the answer right away. The exams are a huge percentage. Choose another professor!
The class overall was okay, just test heavy since its 80% of your grade. Scoring an A is a bit challenging cause of how hard the exams are but reading the lecture material will most likely help. 80% is the exams, 20% is just the weekly quizzes we had. We didn't have anything else outside of class.

This class is very stressful. Lots of readings and homework/ quizzes. There are 4 exams, you get 50 minutes to answer 50 questions. They are open notes, however with that tight time limit, notes don't really help. You have to try very hard to do good in this class, take another professor if you can.

This class is very easy & hard to fail. She has all the assignments+tests laid out on the syllabus. Absolutely abysmal. Class is passable but you definitely have to be on your A game. Grades harshly and doesn't take student concerns seriously.
I wouldn't recommend! Her reviews don't match what's actually on the tests, so it feels like you're studying for one thing and getting tested on something else. Also, her tests are on LockDown Browser with the camera on, and she does go back and check the recordings. Just felt like I was teaching myself the whole time.
This professor is downright rude and does not care about anyone as a student. She puts tests on Saturday between a 3 hour window between 10am-12pm. If you have a work conflict she doesn't care and won't extend anything. Because the class is exam heavy, missing one exam is brutal to your grade. No professor should treat students like this.
Her most notable attribute was her ability to give me ptsd everytime I see or hear mention of rocks.
The most rock related thing about this course was its equivalence to having a kidney stone.

Mind the warnings!! Her lectures are awful and she just reads in a monotone voice from the slides. People were failing the assigments left and right via the Canvas averages. They also had nothing to do with the content. The timings of the tests are sometimes at 6 on the weekends and sometimes at 7-8. Do not take this class.

DO NOT TAKE. Firstly, the class is EXTREMELY test heavy and the amount of notes/study material for each exam is ABSURDLY LARGE. The tests are open note and fully proctored (camera/mic) but you get 50 MINUTES for 50 QUESTIONS. NO TIME to even THINK or use the notes. Plus, HALF of what's on these exams DOESN'T EVEN MATCH what's in the study material.
The reviews are all true. Earth Systems course has 4 tests worth 80% of your grade. No amount of notes will help you cause exams are nothing like the lectures. Don't take!!
If you can't handle exams being most of your grade, don't take the class, you have a skill issue. Exams are extremely fair and accurate to lectures. There is no reason that you shouldn't have an A in this class with 8 points of EC. Ended the class with a 101 overall average. Lectures are boring though, so they can be a slog to get through.
Avoid this professor at ALL cost! She makes you take the test at random times, and it can be stressful for people with jobs. She doesn't care about students' concerns, and mostly makes you teach the content to yourself. She is absolutely one of the WORST professors I've ever had, and that says a lot.

I crammed maybe 6 nights and was able to secure a 92 in the class pre-EC. She had 4 exams worth 80%, can be stressful like any other course. She gave 8 points of extra credit chances. Lectures aren't worth, but her slides/study guides are great. Put the study guides she makes into chatgpt and quiz yourself with it. Great practice for tests!

Very test heavy, with there being 4 tests covering 4 chapters (worth 80% of your grade). The lectures are just reading off the slides in canvas, so skip those. As long as you take extensive notes from the textbook and annotate the slides and actually study, you will do well on the tests. A & B students will do fine in this class if you take notes.

Just not worth it at all. Vast majority of your grade is gonna be the tests which are proctored and open note, but there's SO much content on every test and you only get a minute per question so you can't really go through your notes. She also was accusing a bunch of people for cheating and alot of it seems to be baseless.

Took her online and thought she was great. Each week you get video lectures which goes over a pwpt(she gives the pwpt too), a short quiz, and a worksheet. Tests are open-note, so taking notes from the pwpt is key. Super straightforward if you stay on top of work. I slacked off alot and got a B, but it's an easy A if you stay consistent.”
I was a sexual assault victim and took some time off school in the middle of the semester APPROVED by the university…. She lets me make up my exams but guess what time I could. They opened at 4am and closed at 8am… ON THE SAME DAY. how much more cruel could you get. I'm a full time employee outside of being a full time student. Don't take her class
I highly recommend finding another professor to satisfy your science credits. The tests are worth 80% of your overall grade, and the material per exam has the same amount of material as a final exam. She's also really rude, between the snide emails and setting makeup exams for 4am, her teaching style felt borderline abusive at times. Save yourself.
Not as bad as other students say. It is a good introductory course going into college if you want to exercise your discipline because you'll need it. Very test-heavy, 80% percent weighted but as long as you understand the material, it's fairly easy to get an A.
The class isn't exciting from the perspective of a non-geology major, but the class also isn't hard, so long as you put in a decent amount of work. Tests are open note, and assignments are relatively easy. Put in a decent amount of study time and you can get an A.
This is a very standard class. Everything about this class was average. The exams are open note but do require you to study and write good notes. There are online lectures that are helpful. 6 points of extra credit. There is a lot of homework and reading.
