SHE IS EXTREMELY SMART AND REALLY KNOWS WHAT SHE IS TALKING ABOUT. BUT THERE IS JUST TOO MUCH INFORMATION THAT SHE GIVES THAT YOU DON'T NEED. HER TESTS ARE TRICKY AND REQUIRE YOU TO REMEMBER THINGS FROM PREVIOUS TESTS.
She really knows her material. All her questions come from what she talks about in class. No need to read the book. I have not read one page of the book except to clear something up i may not know and i am making an A. It is a hard class though and requires a lot of studying
This class is very easy in my opinion because the multiple choice test were very easy. I only studied the day before each exam and easily pulled an A. Her lectures can be quite confusing so I mainly jsut studied her power points that she posted; they are much clearer.
Mansfield Jones is fair.. and this can be an easy class if it interests you and you pay attention in lectures. most of the people who say that she is hard, either do not go to class or they just dont get the material. She tries to make things crystal clear, and I barely had to study for her tests.
Dr. MJ is a really great professor, but i'm not sure that she is aware that she is teaching a 200 level class, she tries too hard to cram a lot of material into one lecture so it often leaves you confused. If you take her attend every class and buy a recorder.
Dr J is the worst professor that I have ever had. She is a waste of tuition money, great minds and your time. I suppose for the people who have responded and spoke very highly of Dr. J are either highly intelligent, or very boring. She assigns work that does not pertain to the testing material, she is a joke, don't waste you money on this class.
She is a really great professor. She definitely knows her material, and I felt like i learned a lot by attending class. Just make sure you focus your studying on what she talks about in class. The test were not that difficult because they were not detail oriented.
She's cool. I love the subject, but it isn't hard to do well in her class if you just pay attention and take good notes. It requires study time, but she is entertaining and chances are if you learn it, you'll remember it!!!!
Dr J. is awesome. Her class requires a lot of studying, but AnP generally does no matter where you go. Tests are based off of lecture for the most part. Read tests carefully and don't rush! She also does a really good job of staying on top of your grades so you know where you stand. Get a recorder and study at least 8 hours a week!
I would recommend getting your anatomy credits at a different school. I studied easily over 30 hours per test and barely kept a C in the class. The effort put in does not show up in the grade. Her make up tests are awful. I don't know what more i could've done for this class.
i had to drop the class this sem. i studied easily 20 hrs a week. she sets the class up for 1/2 to fail and tells you if you get a C that is an A in any other class. I should get an A for working this hard. 260 I barely passed. I def suggest going somewhere else like I am. She is absolutely ridiculous.I put so much into it and attended every class!
Honestly, best teacher I have had at UofL. She is enthusiatic about Anatomy and Physiology and her lectures are very interesting. The class isn't impossible- go to class, record lectures, use all the resources she gives you. I got a B in 260 and have an A now in 261. Requires work but you are going into medicine so that is a given. Great class!
She's an excellent lecturer, its rare she doesn't cover something in class that's on the test. Anyone who spends 20 hours a week studying for this class and has to drop it doesn't need to take biology courses.
Very good teacher. Her lectures are very good but the class is difficult. Study hard and record the lectures.
Not an easy class, but there has to be something to between idiots becoming nurses. It happens to be Dr J.
I took both 260 and 261 twice each because the depth of the material is so intricate, the couple weeks in between each class is not nearly enough to comprehend everything she covered if you want to maintain quality grades in any other class as well. She is one of those people so knowledgeable she can not explain anything, she just knows it.
Tries to trick you and more than half the material she tests on will never come up in the workplace. Record her lectures and takes notes on her slides and memorize the slides and a good grade with studying the night before the test will be yours.
Ive taken both anatomy classes with her and she is one tough cookie. It isnt ipossible to get an A you just really have to memorize all the slides and her lectures. What helped me was group study sessions, recording lectures and recopying notes. good luck guys
This class will take up a lot of your time and getting an A in the class is a huge challenge. I rarely opened the book and recorded the lectures and wrote down word for word what she said. study every night. 8 hours a week and at least 12-14 hours of studying before each exam. JMJ is so intelligent, it is hard to keep up with her.
Study all her slides and understand them in order to do get a good grade. The lectures were OK, and she won't test you on a concept or fact that you aren't required to know for her class. . . study study study!!!
Dr. Mansfield-Jones cares about making her material relevant to upper division nursing classes (she asked me) and supports the REACH program to help any student needing help in the course. She is available during office hours to help and supports students with letters of recommendations. A highly qualified instructor who cares. A great foundation!
She gives you everything you need to succeed. The problem is that its hard to memorize. She conveys things interestingly enough ESPECIALLY for an 8oclock class. She gives you a lot of backup. Extra credit coloring slides, online homework helps you learn the material (for points)soits not like you only have test grades. 6 tests +final (drop one test
Jen Man-Jones is a great teacher! As long as you study for the tests, do the extra credit, and do the online homework you will do good. Another thing you MUST do is record the lectures and listen to them before tests. There is no way you will catch everything she says by just note-taking in class. Good luck!!!
Her lectures on anatomy&physiology were some of the best of the 6 professors who lectured. Her voice can get a little annoying after a while, but it is easy to overlook since she clearly knows what she is talking about. Her exam questions were a bit tough compared to the other professors, however.
I had Dr. Mansfield-Jones as one of the professors who shared the 12' 242 course, and I can say without hesitation that she was by far the most interesting and helpful professor that we had. It all boils down to that she knows her "stuff" and that is reflected in her love for what she teaches and her genuine interest in her students. Bravo, Dr.M-J!
She was amazing, especially if you needed to go to her office and ask questions. She will make anything crystal clear for you, just be patient with the amount of time her explanations may take. I never colored, just went home and wrote down everything from the recorded lectures word for word, studied only that and made A's on all of her tests.
This is not a class for a working single parent. Especially in conjuction with the lab. She knows her stuff, however plainer english would have been appreciated.
Very hard class requires A LOT of time and work. Amazing professor who really knows her stuff!
Could anyone tell me what textbook was used for this course please?
Dr. J is an EXTREMELY intelligent person, but she doesn't really understand that not everyone is as smart or understands things as she does. Course material is a lot and very fast paced. She doesn't really give much help on what will be on exams. RECORD LECTURES!! She doesn't go back on slides during class or repeat herself.
the bio lab is alot of work. so you have to go to class. also every lab, the TA gives a quiz and the quizzes are pretty hard if you don't memorize anything. the quizzes feel like exams. but reviewing the hw and manual diagrams and remember them will help. and need to know stuff from 260 and 261 classes
She's smart and is clearly used to lecturing. She doesn't really pause at all during her lecture. This is a course that you have to really work hard in, especially paying attention during lecture. I'd recommend recording her class, although personally, I can't stand her voice. Overall, she's challenging but a great teacher.
Very intelligent professor but has been doing it way too long. She doesn't understand that not everyone is as smart as she is. Class is extremely in depth and requires a ton of personal outside learning/studying. Pay attention to lecture and read! Exams were short and very in depth and difficult.
STUDYING out side of class is necessary to get a good grade in this class, the key to this class is recording the lectures and re-listening to them, and taking good notes in class, you don't need to read the book. If you study hard you will be fine. Pay close attention because actual lecture is where her exam questions come from!
Hate her voice... Annoying and not clear at all as to what will be tested. Prepare to review everything and anything she mentions for test prep. Stupid test format and useless lectures usually.
A LOT of information in a very short period of time! Lectures do not help very much, so her power points only touch on the broad and basic information she expects you to learn and fully understand. I would suggest tutoring and doing a lot of outside work on your own. The tests can be confusing, definitely make sure to read every question carefully.
She makes anatomy as hard as it possibly can be. In order to do well in this class, you have to read every chapter and study weeks in advance for every test. Do the online assignments and coloring pages for extra credit... every little bit helps. She does not care about student success so don't expect any sympathy from her.
Dr. Mansfield-Jones is truly a great professor for lower-level students (she'd be even better in the more intage high level courses). Very quirky and humorous. She has well designed exams and clearly well-developed pedagogy. I was also very happy with her genuine willingness to help when I stopped by her office. A true assist to UofL!
Exams are extremely tough. Make sure you know everything about everything.
the hardest classes I have ever taken. Test are based on lecture so record them. She makes anatomy as hard as she can to weed out for nursing school and doesnt care about her students success.
Avoid taking jones if you can. The lectures and reading cover so much material, while the exams are very specific questions. She talks way to fast for you to take notes. It seems crazy that you have to record the lectures and listen 3 times over. This class demands your entire life, no time for family, friends, or anything human. STAY AWAY!
Her tests are very detailed and focus a lot on the physiology aspect of things. You need to attend because the tests are based off her lectures. I know a lot of people who are/have retaken her class because they needed a better grade, so go to class and read up on what she is covering in class.
Very difficult, makes you work for your grade. Be prepared to really dedicate yourself.
In my view one of the best Biology lecturers at the University of Louisville. Great clarity in her explanations and besides she will always make time for students. Great asset to the biology department of the University.
Her test questions were really really specific. She's the reason my medical school application won't look good.
Tests questions are extremely difficult, hard to understand, she made 242 harder than ever. If you are taking 242 DONT take it with 5 professors.
By far the worst teacher I've ever had. Tests only reflect a partial portion of the lecture material. Her teaching method is scripted. She's just horrible, absolutely awful. A painful class to sit through.
JMJ is all smiles during lecture, but she's not that nice. Don't expect her to email you back or help you if you need it. Tests are tough. Definitely do the online homework and the clicker questions to bump your grade a bit. All online are on quizlet. 6 tests and a final. She curves the final. Good luck.
avoid at all cost. sorry my fellow nursing students, one way or another you will get this professor. :(
Dr Jones is very nice and helpful. Her test are very reasonable and she gives you the information needed in the course. You don't need the text book. The only problem I have with her, is the course uses computer programs that aren't commonly known and I personally found them difficult to navigate. Overall, she is a good choice for a professor.
Vertebrate zoology was an amazing course. Dr. Mansfield-Jones is an amazing professor with a great sense of humor and a passion for the material. She is easily accessible outside of class and is always happy to further explain a concept. She believes in group work and presentations, but nothing too bad.
JMJ is the toughest teacher I've had at UofL. I definitely recommend taking the anatomy classes by Paul Currie online rather than her lecture. Her tests are extremely detailed and specific, difficult to do well. One of the biggest hurdles of becoming a nurse at UofL is passing her courses.
The most challenging class I've ever taken at UofL. It made me consider switching my major and I contemplated dropping the class on multiple occasions. She gives no extra credit and you have a test once every two weeks. If you have a job or anything outside of school, it is extremely hard to balance with the study load this class requires.
I believe Jennifer is evil... there is something dark inside her. Walking into her lecture you may sense a demonic presence. Her shrill voice will spew out all of her knowledge in a hard to understand manner. She talks too fast and covers too much material in a short amount of time. She will select random facts from lecture for the tests. Good luck
I got through this class by studying in a group. She tests on very specific details, so get ready to just memorize everything. Her powerpoints were helpful, but I used the textbook more. If you know someone who has taken this class, ask them for their old tests because she lets you keep them and the questions are similar from past years.
Does clicker questions, so attendance kind of mandatory. Can be very bland and monotone during lecture, making them horrible to sit through. She likes critical thinking question and will never just ask identification questions. If you miss lecture, i would suggest reading the book, but even then she asks questions that are particular from lecture.
Amazing professor! I've never seen someone as passionate about biology as well as teaching. Her section of 242 was easily the most engaging, with the exam questions not being too difficult!
This is by far the worst professor I've ever ever taken!! Expect to find nit-picky details showing up on tests, then an over-expansion on one thing at the exclusion of main material. I suspect she likes throwing unnecessary obstacles & convinces herself that it's to 'weed out' the bad students but it's just controlling. STAY AWAY!!!
Not as bad as I was expecting. Test questions come from lectures so recording the class is essential. It is very challenging, but JMJ really cares about her students and wants everyone to succeed. The tests are 35 only questions, 6 tests total, and the lowest score is dropped + the final. Some homework and clicker qs. You'll learn a lot!
Ridiculously hard and be ready to know things never covered in class. 1 credit hour but you'll spend HOURS studying. You'll also never see her, only the TA. Good luck Charlie
This class is rough. BUT she is extremely accessible outside of class time. There's also no way you won't learn. She provides slides, terms lists, critical questions & more. She has tricky questions, if you know your stuff they are not tricky. She just wants you to know specific details & actually understand the material rather than memorize it.
You WIL HAVE TO WORK for your grade. Period. Record the lectures and write down every word she says. There is a light at the end of the tunnel. Good luck!
This class was hard because two professors taught it (a dumb thing that UofL does). The first professor was clear and tested mainly from notes but she had a different testing style and her tests were not only notes. She is unnecessarily specific on tests. I will avoid taking her in the future.
I genuinely think that her goal is to fail everyone
very difficult. Weekly quizzes from a very long terms list with no word bank. Quizzes also had unexpected questions that i did not even know to prepare for. Quiz and exam avg for total classes are low. 1 credit hour but calls for lots of studying.
Shes very knowledgeable on what she teaches. The only way youll fail is if you dont study or dont go to class.
I had only seen this professor twice the entire semester, and my TA doesn't know most of the content. What is expected of you with what's given is insane and she doesn't help you figure things out when confused. Might as well take it online because you teach yourself! I went to ask her what to do and got no formal answer other than keep trying.
the hardest class I have ever taken at UofL, she teaches in a scattered matter and doesn't really follow a specific pattern, which makes it vry hard to study and follow along with her because she doesn't go by the book. She also doesn't really help in terms of putting up helpful things for the exams. Best of luck!
I love Dr. Jones! She really wants you to pass. She cares so much about your education which is a really nice break from the rest of the UofL core biology pressors. I definitely absolutely recommend taking this course. Dr. Jones tried to make this course applicable to everyone who took it. Everyone found their niche. It was so great. I loved it.
Mansfield-Jones really loves what she teaches. She wants you to do well and there are no surprises in store. The class is difficult only because the exams are difficult and there is a ton of content. Just be prepared to study...a lot.
I've never taken a class this difficult and I truly believe it's due to the professor. Her exams are unnecessarily hard and she expects you to know every single minute detail. I studied for weeks for exams and still did not do well. Her lectures are not helpful and when you ask her what to study, she references her slides that only have pictures.
This professor was awful. She gives test over every little detail of what she explains and then the choices on the exam are so similar with one word changed that it is set up for you to fail. She is hard to reach outside of class, she does not allow questions to be asked during class. Don't take this class if you want to pass.
She is unnecessarily specific on exams. When you ask her what you need to study for the exams, she states only her powerpoint slides which have minimal text on broad concepts and mainly pictures. The exams are then extremely specific and cover much more than her slides. I read the entire textbook and still did not do well.
The main issue with this class is that she teaches it as if it's a high level class. The exams are 85% of the grade and are EXTREMELY specific for the broad coverage of each exam. If you study hard I would say you could get a B on each exam and maybe an A if you get some lucky guesses (averages were very low). About half the class dropped.
I'm just going to be honest with you all, you'll see people comment that this is a great professor, those are the people naturally GIFTED on the subject. Everyone i know either dropped the class or cried every night. One of the hardest and draining classes you could possibly take. You will literally have no idea what she's saying. Good Luck
Her powerpoint "lectures" consisted of roughly 10 bulletpoints per lecture and if you don't listen to her, you will not succeed. The important things to do is listen to her EVERY word and read the textbook, but that still doesn't help. The tests consistently had information not from the LO's, textbook, or class lectures.
Just dont take it, I guarantee youll regret ever taking a class with this woman
I had Dr. MJ for bio262 lab. Never met or saw her in class only the TA, weekly quizzes and 2 exams. LOTS OF STUDYING. they drop the lowest quiz score but due to covid we only met one day a week for 50 mins so barely any time. They did offer open lab everyday of the week. It was a decent course but very time consuming for a 1 credit course.
It's not really a hard class, it's just a lot. There is SO much memorizing. You have to memorize everything bc tests are all open response, and like 20 questions each. There is so much hw, you have like three assignments each week, and they're all very time consuming. Lots of group work. Have to have a laptop. No curves. Dissection is fun though.
I have never experienced more pain than this class. It did not have to be this hard, am given questions about things that how would I know? Did not teach me that so what is this question? A quiz every class and they are ALL open response. VERY heavy work load, and only 1 cred. I lost a large piece of my soul to Jennifer that I will never get back.
This class is hard for sure but definitely manageable. You really just have to go to class and record her lectures. Tutoring helps too. Her tests are based on lectures so make sure you know EVERYTHING she mentions and rewrite your notes. The term lists help a lot for studying too. Attendance is optional but she does iclicker so go to boost ur grade
This is a comment for those of you who work really hard and sometimes it just doesn't seem to be enough. I'd like to emphasize that YOU SHOULD NEVER TAKE THIS CLASS. THIS IS A DIFFICULT CLASS. EXAMS ARE EXTREMELY DIFFICULT. THE PROFESSOR DOES NOT UNDERSTAND, NO CURVES, AND EXPECTS YOU TO HAVE A DEEP BACKGROUND IN BIOLOGY.
This is a hard class, and you have to work for your grade. She does Clicker questions every day so you should definitely plan on going to class and exams are totally lecture based. Class averages on exams were consistently low, she does curve, but not a lot. The most frustrating thing was her taking a week or more to grade scantron tests.
I like Dr. Jones--the course is not hard because of HER... it's literally anatomy and physiology. She is kind, accessible, and knowledgeable. Her tests are hard, and sometimes she puts very niche, hardly covered questions on them. But, she curves tests too. The online homeworks are helpful--just wish there were more of them to get more points.
I took her anatomy lab and I never saw her once. The TAs had to teach and do everything. The class only met once a week and there was a ton of homework over things that we did not discuss in class. I only got a good grade because I went to office hours literally every week.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. DO NOT. If you are naturally good at anatomy go ahead. This is by far the toughest subject already and she makes it 1000% harder. She makes test 85% of your grade including the final exam. If you are not a good test taker like I am, it will be hard. Your whole grade is based off the tests. Take another teacher if u CAN.
Exams are 70% of class grade and are very difficult. She does curve most of the time which helped. The best way to study for them is to REWATCH HER RECORDED LECTURE VIDEOS! She is very kind but SO smart that it makes content hard. Her A&P 1&2 courses are definitely more biological/chemical physiology than anatomy. The actual anatomy is in her lab.
This class is extremely challenging. You have to put in a lot of effort outside of class to get good grades on tests. She tests on very specific things in lectures so focus on her lectures rather than the book. Also get a tutor if you can. JMJ is very nice and caring but definitely tries to weed out the bad students.
BIOL 260 is a hard class... but JMJ makes her lectures very engaging for it being at 8am. Your grade is 85% tests (70% are exams and 15% is the final). Exams are 35 questions and there is normally a ~5 point curve. attendance isn't mandatory but there are clicker questions every lecture. pay attention to lecture, the exam ONLY covers the lecture.
jmj isn't as bad as everyone makes her out to be. the class IS difficult bc its a&p, but she provides you with many study opportunities and open labs bc she truly wants you to do well. her class involves hours of studying but as long as you take advantage of all the studying opportunities, you'll pass. hard work definitely pays off in this course.
I can tell JMJ is very interested in what she has to say about anatomy & physiology. But that can become a problem, as she often fixates on certain things. She branches off a lot and you can forget what the topic was even about in the first place. She knows a lot, so she says a lot. Your grade is basically based on the exams, so do well.
Professor JMJ is a wonderful professor and I have learned so much from taking this class. she is very smart and sometimes doesn't realize that her students are only at a student level. I think people don't understand that it is supposed to be hard. You will succeed if you put the work in. also, don't read the textbook, not worth it.
This class had lots of homework and quizzes, and you must read the textbook to succeed. One quiz gets dropped, but they are specific. The midterm and final are very hard and require lots of studying because they are so specific. they are changing this to a 2 semester lab for the upcoming semester, so I think that will help with the course load.
Extremely difficult professor, if you can avoid taking her do so, her content is almost impossible to follow and she is hard to reach outside of the class room. Really questions your passion for nursing.
BEWARE, lengthy quizzes over so many things. Hard to get in contact with, would not take her if I could.
I spent two hours on a phone call with my advisors begging to let me drop out of her class so that I could continue in nursing. I would never take this class again even if I was paid to take. This 1 credit hour class was the worst experience of my 2 years in college because she is an unprofessional teacher.
Between the professor and the GTA, I hardly learned anything. The TA's follow their own rules and nothings similar across sessions. It's super difficult to put two semesters of anatomy into one semester of lab. We did not even do dissections or experiments. It was just horrible. I only passed due to the curves thrown in at the end of the semester.
I would not take this professor again. She honestly expects too much out of us like we are on her level of knowledge when she really needs to dumb it down. Her quiz and test questions are very difficult so it requires a lot of your time to study and learn the material even for just a 1 credit hour class which isn't even worth it honestly.
I have taken four courses with professor JMJ, 260, 261, 264, and 265. Although she is VERY intelligent, I believe she forgets that her students are not on the same level as her. Her courses are as rigorous as people make them out to be. Read Sladin book and FOLLOW LECTURE TERM LIST. You will be ok
Tough exams, plenty of material, and fast-paced lectures. I managed to boost my grade from a D to B by rewatching the lectures and taking notes from there. The textbook is not necessary. She is a very nice professor so don't be afraid to approach her during office hours.
Professor JMJ is challenging, but if you put in the work and use resources like Unstuck AI, you'll succeed. Attend lectures, skip the textbook, and you'll come out stronger.
She's very nice and sweet but like the others say, she forgets we're not on the same level as her. Her exams are hard
Tough class so you must put in a lot of work but i learned a lot and feel prepared.
JMJ was not the worst professors like others say. Yes, it's Ap2 it will be hard! She sometimes explains things very complicated, but you just need to go back and watch the lecture. SHOW UP TO CLASS AND DO THE HOMEWORKS AND REWATCH THE LECTURES and takes notes you will be fine. I rarely used the textbook. If you can pass AP1 you can pass AP2!
I jThank the Lord for getting me through this course! The exams are based off of what was said in class. REWATCH the lecture videos. Curved all exams by 5%. There is no extra credit. There's a cumlative exam at the end. She's a good teacher, but there's alot of material!! She wanted us to pass I feel becuase she curved the final exam by 26%.
Just don't take her, her exams are super hard and the questions are worded weirdly. So many people were failing the class and she once was very late for a meeting we set up. Ap2 is hard but I feels like she made it harder. If you can avoid her, AVOID HER!!!
If you can, AVOID this professor. She makes content overly difficult to understand and does not break things down well. You can get attendance point by Iclicker but it seems as if she makes questions hard so you don't do well. I've never had a professor like this. Unfortunately the exams are all 30 questions meaning there's no room for error.
I like her, she's a very thorough explainer and she wants you to succeed
Avoid her. She believes that she is the smartest person in the world and gets agitated when students do not understand her. "Attendance" Is 5 pts: 2.5 if you came to class and 2.5 if you get her weirdly worded, overly complicated questions right.
She is not a bad professor! It AP2 and it's a hard class. You have to put in the work for a good grade and she's a thorough explainer. If you don't understand something, just ask and she's very nice and helpful.
If you can take this course with a different professor, DO IT! Dr. JMJ is very smart, but the way she lectures, she expects you to be at the same level as her. Her exams are difficult, and pretty much the only thing in the grade book. Advice: attend lectures and rewatch the lecture recordings. Her slides are lowkey confusing & the exams are hard.
She is one of the two professors for this course and my experience was horrible. Exams are 70%, the final is 15% so your whole grade is essentially dependent on her incredibly difficult exams. Class averaged a 60-70% on almost every exam and she did not seem to show any concern and had to curve 4/6 exams and curve the final by 15 points. Horrible.
