She is a very nice teacher, she is also very helpful but her tests are VERY hard.
Great, great teacher. Very knowledgable about the subject and is a fun teacher to have. Tests are very fair, all you need to do is show up, pay attention, take good notes and study a little every week. As mentioned before, great teacher, and this year is her first year here, so things will only get better!
Mrs. Martin is a very sweet lady but she is extremely hard!! She is always willing to help but I would not recommend her class unless you are a bio major...her tests are ridiculous! Plan on studying your ALOT if in her class
Her tests are ridiculous-much more detailed than her lectures actually are. Do not take her unless you like Biology and understand it.
She is extremely smart! Very impressive and a really genuine person. Her class was very demanding, especially the 8 week summer class. She does not teach in depth; however, she tests in depth! You must really study and learn in depth in order to understand what she is asking in her test questions. I learn a lot, but not w/out stressing!
Rude, not understanding
She's incredibly beautiful, incredibly smart, and incredibly fun to be with. If you need help she's there, if something has come up she's very understanding and will try to accomodate you if possible.
Very strict. Always marks SOMETHING wrong. She is very anal and expects everyone to enjoy her class and stick around to play with the microscopes after she is done teaching. Um, no thanks.
Awesome teacher that has truly interesting stories about bio and her life that make science even more interesting. She is tough and to pass you do have to learn the stuff but I think her teaching style makes learning easier.
Jen Martin is a great teacher but you do have to work. You learn a lot but her tests have been known to kll people.
This teacher will make you think about what you are learning. Her tests are long, but she grades according to your knowledge and your effort. Additionally, she is hot!
Ms. Martin was awesome,Loved her teaching style, she was very consise with what she wanted and clear with what she expected. Power Points were great and study guides awesome. Id take her for another Bio if she tought the one I was taking. Overall cool person!
very good teacher, takes time to explain and help students
smart lady below average bio teacher
"I'm to busy" Martins motto... heard she was a great teacher but in my own experience she is knowledgeable and not worth taking. Insane grader, something is always wrong. Seems like a angry burnt out teacher to me.
Maybe just a bad semester??? :/ Disappointed with the class and grades.
Office hours were MWF 7am-8am, not accommodating toward students. Heard great things from other students in the past, however my personal experience was disappointing... teacher, class, and grade. I do not recommend her.
I LOVED this teacher! You can really tell she loves the material. Hope you like poetry, too, she made us right two for fun. Pretty easy, fun, hands-on homework...doesn't require too much thinking. i would recommend her.
Has great stories about her travel, but her tests are off the hook. If this is your last class I beg you don't take this teacher. She loves this stuff and thinks that everyone else does too. She teaches in depth. Beleive me you will take notes, research, cram, everything. All I can say is good luck.
While her class was very interesting, the exams are quite difficult. It is worth the effort though if you are a science major. The way she teaches gets you more curious about the world around you, as well as how biology is part of every aspect of life.
WARNING: Not for slackers; this teacher will put you to work! She is excellent at what she does; engaging & funny, knowledgeable & helpful. Excellent powerpoints keep class on track. I HATED science b4 I took this class, & joined Science Club b/c of her! Take notes & study; really try to understand rather than memorize & you'll do ok (I got an A!)
Her lecturing style is too snappy and her tests are Ridiculously borderline tricky which I found completely pointless if your major was not Bio. =(
She's good lecturer but her tests suck. They are extensive and pointlessly long. She has a real disconnect between regular students and biology wizards. And probably the best advice you'd ever get in your academic life is > If you want to pass, DO NOT take her!
An amazing teacher! I've learned so much from this class but it isn't for slackers. I've managed to pull an A off but i worked for it. Her tests are tricky but she's worth it. She's pretty hot too.
Her grading is insane b/c she is very nitpicky about detail and seems like she will take points off for the heck of it. Her teaching pace is also insanely fast. You will find urself still processing what she said 5 secs ago while she bombards 50 questions at you at the same time! Do not recommend her.
a wonderful experience
she is the HARDEST grader ever. you MUST show up to every class unless you want to fail. there are on average 5 pages of notes per class. the INTRO bio class is probably taught at a doctorate level. even the nurses who were taking this class were struggling. dont plan on sleeping or having a life ever, you will need every second to study.
excellent bio teacher, very through on information. If you want an easy grade go somewhere else be prepared to learn in this class that means attending class, not slacking on studies etc... tough test!
I think she makes it ridiculously hard just for an intro class. Not even my 200 level classes were that tough on me. If Biology is your world, then you deserve this teacher. If not, look elsewhere because your transcript will be scarred for life.
An amazing teacher with very difficult tests with a lot of writing. Do your essays first because she is ridiculously stubborn and gives no extra time. My A+ in lab saved my grade at a high B, but if there had been more test time i could have gotten an A for the overall class. (Had a different Professor for lab thank God).
Inspires a love/hate relationship. Awesome teacher/long, hard tests. Takes "BE ABLE TO APPLY THESE CONCEPTS TO NOVEL SITUATIONS!!!" (written on every study guide) to a whole new meaning. 72 was test average in our class.
I felt that she definitely made this class WAY harder than it needed to be (especially for an entry level class). VERY tough grader, I suggest finding a different teacher unless your life revolves around biology and/or you absolutely LOVE it.
I absolutely LOVE this woman. She's amazing. Don't get me wrong, she's tough, but she makes sure you understand everything. There hasn't been a time she was unable to help. She's also pretty funny, because she says the most random things mid-lecture. I only had her for lab, but I went to her office for help instead of my lecture teacher. Awesome!
AWESOME!!!!! Has many funny stories hates cell phones with a passion! But overall very nice must work hard though will not be a walk in the park very honest with you if you fail she will let you know ahead of time in time to drop the class
Don't take this class if you have a life outside of school. You shouldn't spend this much time studying for an entry level Biology course. Test are very challenging. She is very knowledgeable and LOVES this stuff. I wouldn't recommend her unless you LOVE biology, majoring in science, or don't have a life.
She is amazing at what she does. Great teacher. This is NOT a slack class. So forget the phone and pay attention. Shes willing to help outside class..and STRONGLY encourages questions. she will pick your brain on exams. so be ready. "i love this crap"she says. I rarely used my book. her lecture was enough. but be ready, its hard stuff!
Very hard teacher!!! but worth taking the class. Her examples are some thing one can relate to. I had her for Bio 101 and now I have her for Honors Bio 102. If you're looking into taking her for Honors, please plan to study hard and cut back on working hours. There are no study guides in this class, but you'll learn alot more.
If biology is not your life; Run the other direction. DO NOT take her course. She deducts multiple points for little stuff. Her test are pointlessly lenghty.
FANTASTIC TEACHER! cell phones are a no go, but as long as you pay attention and take notes, there is no reasn the tests are unpassable. ALL material covered in the notes will be on the test, so you know what you need to study. Applies material with interesting examples. Overall a wonderful ecperience through BIO101/102. Pay attention and study!!!!
She DOES NOT care about anything else but teaching you BIO. So, if you're single with no kids and no job and no other classes take her otherwise avoid her at all cost. She is at times rude about your lack of interest in the subject. Very nice outside the classroom.
Oceanography with Mrs. Martin was great. She is a very tough teacher, especially if she knows you are majoring in her speciality, but very worth it. Had her for Lab and Lecture. She is very easy to talk to, and is willing to help out whenever possible. Would definitely recommend. Taking her again for GOL112 and BIO102 next semester.
GREAT TEACHER! DEFINITELY MAKES LEARNING FUNN! YES HER TESTS CAN BE HARD BUT YOU HAVE TO BE WILLING TO DO THE WORK ITS NOT AN EASY A. SHE WAS DEF. UNDERSTANDING WHEN MY MOM GOT SICK AND I HAD TO MISS CLASSES FOR TWO WEEKS TAKING HER FOR BIO AND OCEANOGRAPHY AGAIN. SHE IS THE BEST!!
She's a very good teacher overall. She's not one of those teachers that you can get over on. She's very hard but at the same time sweet. She makes you think a lot especially when it comes to her test. I think that her test are too long and sometimes pointless. Her test doesn't cover everything that you learn either. I would recommend her.
Best teacher I have ever had! She is tough, attendance is mandatory if you want to pass, and absolutely no cell phones, but she is a great teacher! She is very clear is her material, and encourages you to think and ask questions. She makes learning Biology fun and interesting. I DEFINITELY recommend her! AMAZING!
Mrs. Martin is a very good teacher; she knows what she is talking about. However, if you are not a good test taker, avoid this class!!! Her tests were extremely difficult for an entry level bio course.
Dr. Martin is for sure the hardest teacher! I am a great student and make all A's.. but not in her lecture. Her test and quiz questions are beyond hard. You will not be able to understand what the question is even asking for.
Professor Martin is a wonderful biology teacher IF you're majoring in biology. In case you have her, make sure you stay on top of your textbook, follow up with her after class if you're confused, and if needed, get a tutor. Her tests are difficult, they're designed to help you critically think. By all means, ask questions!!
Professor Martin is extremely difficult. She moves terribly fast and her tests are beyond ridiculous, they are between 5-8 pages long. Do not take this class if you ever want to see the light of day. This class will consume your life! Martin knows her stuff, but can't deliver information in an easily understood manner.
Professor Martin is a fantastic teacher who really wants her students to succeed. I highly recommend asking questions regardless of if they sound silly because she'll still answer them. I took her Oceanography and greatly enjoyed myself. She fosters mutual respect and cooperation between students. Must be able to think critically to do well on test
Mrs. Martin is the worst teacher I ever had. Always fast paced and never goes from the book. If you want to learn anything don't take her class
Professor Martin's class is really difficult, period. I leave class with my head pounding from so much info. Even so, she LOVES biology and you can learn so much from her if you pay attention and ask questions. The tests are very lengthy and technical, so study A LOT. She is a quick grader but does not like to put grades (or notes) on blackboard.
I loved Mrs. Martin! She LOVES biology and it shows through her teaching. She moves fast, but always covers everything and will take as much extra time outside of class to help individually as needed. I hated science prior to her class, and it turned out to be my favorite this semester.
If you take good notes in class and follow along with her lectures she gives you all the info needed for test but she will test on application not just facts. Must be able to think and reason for her test. Helpful and willing to answer questions.
helpful, enthusiatic...very much into biology..(and not bad too look at)...i only had her for lab, not lecture
DO NOT TAKE HER!!!! I have taken Human Anatomy and Physiology with no problem and this class has damn near killed me. She is nice but her tests are insane, her famous line "If you know one you know the other, don't learn both." COMPLETE NIGHTMARE.
Dr. Martin is an AMAZING teacher. Yes, she's hard. But she will work with you to help you get a good grade. She LOVES her subject and it shows. Best Teacher I've had in a LONG Time!
Love Her! My favorite teacher of all time! She makes the big words easy to understand. She has passion in her work and it has it's way of seeping onto the students so they get excited too. I changed my major entirely because of her. Don't slack, so long as you make an effort she works well with you, even if you're doing horribly. She likes effort.
Wasn't really into the class at first, but once we did our first labfield work, it grabbed my attention. Everything you learn adds to itself and is used throughout the entire semester. There is a weekend field trip you go on that you don't want to miss! Not many tests, but definitely need to study for them. 1 project is done in the lab, solo.
Great instructor, but you need to work to pass the class. Her tests are far from easy, but she gives wonderful material to help students study. The effort you put into the class is the grade you'll earn.
She is so passionate about science, that she has a fantastic way of pulling you in and being genuinely interested. She's very sweet, however is a very tough grader. But if you actually want to learn, she's one of the top science professors at TNCC and you're lucky to be her student.
What can I say about Dr. Martin other than she is amazing. I'm not really into science but I took her Bio 101 class last semester and really enjoyed myself. If you don't want to put in the work for a good grade, she is not the teacher to take. This is not a class I felt comfortable missing. Explains things in her own way so you understand.
Dr. Martin is so passionate about science and is truly inspiring. I have taken several of her classes (Oceanography/Bio) and if she taught more I would def. take them. She is very friendly and genuinely cares about her students and making sure they are successful. She wants to help! Study/take good notes and you'll do really well.
J. Martin is still to this day one of the best professors I have ever had. I took her night class, which was the full three hours. We never left early, she never went easy on us. She gave us what we needed to pass, she prepared us. She's tough but funny and interesting. I loved this class even though I worked my butt off. Got a 95 on the final.
Questions asked on exam are not in the book or lecture. Whatever you do, do NOT take this professor
Shes a nice person but an awful instructor. Shes all over the place. Assigns work that isnt collected or graded. Her tests are incredibly hard and worth more than half of your grade. One of the worst classes I've ever had. I'm an A student, never gotten below an A, but I couldnt manage more than a C in her class.
The course isn't hard, as long as you do the work that is required. The textbook is an easy read, labs are easy. Get use to MindTap before you start the homework, this makes a big difference on your grade! No late work accepted, and pay close attention to DB requirements.
Jen is a fun teacher to have, she loves what she does and has plenty of stories from her past that add to class. She loves field work, there were many classes spent outside. Testing format is different from other teachers (only 3 tests). If you miss a class, you miss a lot of good information so I don't recommend missing unless you have to.
I love Jennifer as a professor, she cares so much about her students . She makes this class fun even when it can be hard. She is available to talk if you need help and she is willing to worth with you to make sure you do well. Be respectful and she will be there for you. Quiz's and exams are kind of hard due to the structure but keep working hard
Dr. Martin is a very difficult person to contact when you take her online class. It may take several days for her to respond to you! This was a difficult class to take online. Be ready to re read the chapters because the lectures and the test and the book are all different. If you can ask more questions than needed especially for the final.
Decent professor. This class is hard. She grades things very critically and expects you to bust your butt to get a good grade. I wont take too many classes while your taking this class.
Graded harshly, was hard to contact, and there was a lot of work needed to be done in an unreasonable amount of time. I was stressed the entire time taking her course even though science tends to be my best subject.
If you're taking Dr. Martin's online BIO Classes, do not let the previous rates fool you. This class was an EASY A. Yes, there is a decent amount of work, but the work for each week can easily be done in one sitting. Also, if you have any questions or concerns about anything, Dr. Martin responds very quickly to anything you need. Solid professor!
Dr. Martin is extremely knowledgeable about biology. She made the online class engaging and piles on a hefty workload. Put in the effort, do the work, and study for the tests to get a good grade. I wouldn't recommend her for an easy A, but I would if you want to learn a lot about biology.
I'm so glad that I happened to take her class! Genuinely, this woman made me question my career choices. She clearly loves her job and educating people about science. She had so many stories and examples from real life and made sure everyone understood, and if not, she would personally help you through email. Relatable, funny, and very empathetic.
I am currently taking Professor Martin's class and she is one of the toughest graders I have taken. We had an assignment where we had to tern in a poem about Roseland Franklin. I followed the directions she gave us and turned it in. She gave me a zero on it because she said I did not follow the outline correctly, but there was no outline to follow
Loved the online labs, but tests were awful. The first exam had more questions than minutes to take it with multiple short answer questions! I asked if I could have access to quizzes to study for next exam. She said study the objectives, not the quizzes, guess what? A lot of questions taken directly from quizzes. Would never take again.
This class was a very, easy learning class. The notes made it very easy to understand and she was very clear on how to submit assignments correctly. The notes are a bit extensive, due to a lot of material for the course of Biology material, but i get that. She inputted grades at a timely manner too.
Shes a really great teach and would definitely take it again if I could. All you have to do is pay attention.
Professor Martin's enthusiasm for all things biology and teaching was really inspiring and I wish I could've taken this class in person. The assignments and tests were fairly difficult for me and the discussion boards were very fun. Some of the grading regarding the discussion boards were a bit strange and difficult to understand.
Overall, the class was super easy. Everything was laid out very well you were able to understand each assignment and be able to get each assignment done in a timely manner.
There weren't any lectures. Given a powerpoint that the textbook obviously provided. Cancelled being the teacher for the in-person lab last minute. Discussion boards were needlessly complicated and tests were ridiculously hard. (Short time, many questions, plus several short response answers.) The "objectives" did not help me study at all.
Mrs. Martin is a GREAT biology teacher. I would have taken her again for BIO 102 the next semester if the option was available. Her lectures are thorough and entertaining but the tests are somewhat difficult, you definitely need to study for them. The connect assignments are easy, just don't do it all on the day it is due and you'll be fine.
From my experience, she is a very polarizing professor. If you want to take a class that you can skip or be on your phone, maybe pass on this one. If you are actually interested in learning I would highly recommend taking her for both lab & lecture. Quizzes and tests are hard even if you study but she genuinely cares. Very smartbook heavy!!
She is a not good professor in my point of view. When it comes to studying it is hard to study for because there is so much information to review and take notes. The weekly tests and quizzes are very hard. Please study for her class. She does not work well with her students. And she will not be willing to work with you. Please do not take her class!
Toke her for online BIO101 both, lecture and the lab, both online. She isn't that bad of a professor but she is one of THOSE professors. Her discussion boards for the lecture are kinda insane for max credit. She WILL NOT change due dates unless medical or family emergency. after the first exam, the lab was ahead of the lecture. not bad otherwise
