Maupin is a good teacher she makes the class interesting. For her test make sure to know all of the study guide and you will do fine. She is young and adds humor to her lectures.
So great! I hated biology until i took it with her. She is super nice, super funny, super helpful. Just study the review sheets thoroughly and you'll do fine
Jen is a great teacher, but her tests are difficult. Just be sure to study the review sheets and take good notes in class. Very willing to help and easy to talk to when there is a problem.
Really nice and pretty cute. Gives you test questions in advance. You should be able to get a B if you aren't retarded.
she is a great teacher~ the class is not too hard if you study review sheets. And then, you will probably get good grades.
Not an extremely easy class, however if you go to class and take notes you will earn an B+ if not an A.
Jenn is awesome! She is very nice, helpful, smart, enthusiastic and smart. She helped to make this class very interesting and worth attending! I totally recommend her for any class.
Dr. Maupin is one sexy chili pepper. She is biologically perfect.
Jen is one of the best teachers I have ever had. She is soooo nice and sooo helpful. The class is pretty easy if you take the notes in class and the lab is pretty easy too. GET THIS TEACHER!! she is great.
Adorable, informative, helpful, kind
She's the best! = )
Not only is she good looking, she is also a very good teacher. Very organized, and she takes the time to help her students.
I loved Maupin, she is adorable and very helpful if you take the time to ask. Very knowledgeable, she is a doctor after all...but she has a strange love to spiders. Take her if you can, you learn a lot, but it is not an easy class you have to do the work to get the grade.
Awesome teacher. Some teachers just don't give a rat's dung if you want help, but Jen's not only helpful but exceptionally friendly. Struggled big time at the beginning cuz I hate bio but went to her for help and aced the final. Superb teacher.
Maupin is the sweetest professor I have ever had! Cares about her students and goes the extra mile to help you succeed! I wish I could take her for all of my future bio classes! Recommend her to anyone! Enjoyed going to class and all her cute jokes. :)
She is an excellent teacher! Very precise, uses great powerpoint presentations, clear, and makes sure that everyone understands the information she is presenting. She uses clear examples and has a very laid back classroom enviroment. Very professional and fun at the same time. We love you Mrs. M!
good teacher, clear about her expectaions. very willing to help and puts her heart inot teaching. cares a lot about her students. friendly and fun.
LOVE LOVE LOVED this teacher, without a doubt one of the best teachers i've ever had! She's young and can relate to her students whom she obviously cares a lot about. She makes the class very fun and interesting and her stories make it easy to remember lecture material. I wish she was teaching all of the bio classes so I could take more of her clas
Jennifer Maupin is a great teacher and has a really amazing personality as well
Great Professor. Extremely knowledgeable on topic. Very passionate and wants her students to do well in the class. Take this class! She's the best!!!
She is a strict teacher, but she is also very organized and available if you are having a hard time. We hardly used the book. The labs were fun. There is some extra credit opportunities but not much. If you miss a class then you miss a lot of points. The only thing that bugged me was that after every mid-term we had to stay afterwords for lecture!
Awesome.
greatt. did not like biology until i took her class. very enthusiastic about the subject makes you interested in it too. always there to help you. all exams are based on notes from lecture so as long as you go to class you will do fine. textbook helpful but not necessary. love her.
Very thorough, engaging and enthusiastic about what she's teaching. Materials, and lectures are organized and there are no surprises. Take good notes, do the easy extra credit, study the review sheets for exams and you'll make an easy A! She holds review sessions for exams too. This is the first time I've ever felt smart in a Science class
very good teacher. really really nice and will show u lots of luv if you show interest in her class and desire to go good in her class.
Jennifer is by far the best Biology 100 teacher at SBCC. She is easy to understand and she makes biology really fun. If you sit near the front of the class and ask questions she will love you. Make sure that you go to lab! She is really funny and has a great sense of humor. I would take Jennifer again in a second.
She was a great teacher and was very helpful. Yes her exams are difficult if you don't study but she gives excellent review sessions, great review handouts and all of the questions are right out of her notes. If you study you will have no problems. I loved her class and thought she was great at her job.
Seriously the best biology teacher there! Shes passionate about the subject she's teaching and it made me very interested in the subject even though im not a science major. Her tests are hard but if you do the homework and labs and show up to class for her lectures you should have no problem passing her class.
I hate biology, and all sciences for that matter. But I've had only two class periods with her this semester so far and I'm excited to go to her class and study bio. She is so nice, funny and really makes sure everyone understands. I really recommend her.
Jen is a sweetheart and is very passionate about her field. The seminars in biology class was a great class to introduce biologists into the world of research. It was so intriguing and the final presentations were a fun way to show what we learned from the class.
She is so nice and wants to help everyone so that they pass. She loves biology and knows how to explain things really well. If you study the review guides she provides, the test should be simple. The labs are fun and worth a lot of points so if you don't do well on the exams, you still are able to pass. She is a great professor and i recommend her!
Great teacher! She was always cheerful and you could tell she wanted every student to pass. Take her class!
She is a great teacher! I never liked science at all and did not want to take the class, but she made it super fun and really interesing. Best teacher I have had at CC. Take her!
I went in to this class some what excited to learn about bio though it was a required class. Maupin is so incredibly unpleasant to deal with I've completely stopped trying to get her help and instead consult the internet... She tends to give the same passive, rude response to every question I ask no matter how friendly I'm being. Avoid this teacher
Maupin is a great teacher. I was not looking forward to taking bio but she ended up making me really enjoy the subject. She explains things very clearly and has study guides for her tests. Definitely recommend her!
Easy Lab class.
Great teacher all around. She has a very bubbly personality and is always in a good mood. Very clear in class and uses powerpoint presentations well. If you ever want to know about something she will find it out for you. If you are interested in bio and do your best in the class, anyone can do great in this class.
Jen is honestly one of the best teachers I have ever had. If you are not a science major (or if you are) and need to take a lab, take Natural History with her. Lab is fun and interesting and she honestly loves what she does. She is so sweet and extremely helpful. She offers help and extremely clear study guides with everything you will be tested on
AMAZING TEACHER!! I loved her class. She WANTS her students to learn the material; if you have any questions she will help ! definitely make a connection, and you will have the best experience in her class. i hated bio, but she gave me a different view. i became interested and involved more ! keep up with notes and reading.
Maupin is great! Definitely take her class if you need a science with a lab. She is extremely helpful if you need it, and is clear in her lectures and lab about what will be on the tests. I didn't buy the book and still got an A in the class. If you know the study guides then her tests aren't bad. Take this class.
She is one of the nicest and most helpful professors on campus! She learnt nearly everyone's name in the 120 person class, so that definitely shows her love for her classes. Turn in everything, study for her hard exams(half of each exam is short written answer, and half multiple choice), make sure to attend lab and you'll be on the road for an A!
She is amazing! I cannot believe i got so lucky to have a teacher like her. I got a C in the class, but whatever. Her tests were a little difficult but i'm not a bio major so i didn't take it as serious. Take bio 120 with a lab! soooo much fun, and she makes everything interesting.
one of the most annoying professors I have had.
Dr. Maupin is the best professor! Went into the class thinking, "ehh lab...", but no way!! She inspires people to love biology & works hard to make sure everyone understands. Very approachable, patient, & even helped me decide to be a Bio major. Lots of content, no easy A, but absolutely obtainable. She even offers extra credit on the exams.
If you are not simple minded and don't have a low working memory you will likely dread every lecture. I considered this class more of a seminar for appreciating common sense applied to biology. Studying is memorization. Tests are purely regurgitation. she is bubbly so when she gives you an answer you don't like it might seem like she's mocking you.
I loved Jen! She is very enthusiastic about Biology, but makes it easy for everyone to understand. The tests are all memorization with some short answer questions. She is an easy grader and is always happy to answer questions and help you succeed. Show up to lecture and you will do just fine!
Professor Maupin has been one of the best Professors I've had. She is really dedicated and motivated to teach her students to the best of her ability. Her notes are always clear and she helps you study for exams as well. She cares about each student and made class fun. She is the reason why I decided to change my major to biology. She was amazing.
I'm taking this class right now. Jen is probably the best professor I have had so far at SBCC, and I don't even like bio... She is so enthusiastic, has a sense of humor, genuinely cares about her students and wants everyone to succeed. She's a fair grader and also gives extra credit opportunities in her exams. GREAT professor.
I loved Jen's class! She is a wonderful and enthusiastic teacher. She takes time out of her personal life to help her students, she truly cares if they succeed! Her lectures are very interesting. I am not a Biology major, but I would definitely take this class again. Warning- there IS a group project at the end of the semester that is worth a lot.
She's very passionate about her job. Gives lots of extra credit, very available if you need help. Do the work, show up to class, don't miss a lab and you should pass no problem. She grades hard on exams so make sure you know your study guide back to front before tests. definitely recommend!
She is the sweetest teacher and knows all her students by name. It is possible to get an A but you will need to study. She is very clear of what expected for you. Attendance is important because you do not know what days lecture quizzes will be handed out and lab is essential because if you miss one you miss 25pts.
By far my favorite teacher! She's incredibly passionate about what she's teaching and her enthusiasm is contagious. It's not an easy class; you definitely need to be at every lecture/lab and studying is a must but there's plenty of extra credit offers and she always gives study guides. If you have the chance to take a class with her, please do!
Jen is simply awesome. She will make you work for your A but if you attend class and lab, do the assignments, take the time to fill out the study guides in advance and study them, your work load will lighten up. Dont fall behind and make sure you have a good group for your lab! Labs are long but very fun and interesting.
I really liked Jen! Her exams are hard and lectures are super long, but she cares about you really getting something out of the class. She does care that you get the best out of her classes. For how much material she teaches us, she is doing a pretty good job trying to summarize it down to the important parts. Take every opportunity to study hard.
Maupin is hard to find outside of class because she's very busy. I went to her class religiously and still received a B. Would not recommend you skip. She is so awesome!
Jen is so fun and caring for every student. She is really accommodating with peoples schedules. Tests are reasonable and yeah anyways she's awesome super quirky and funny too.
This professor is nice, but her class is too difficult. If you do not work really really really hard that you won't pass this class, and the most important thing is she will not give the lower grade student a way out .
She is such a great professor. She explains the material really well and gives great examples. She makes lecture and class really interesting, you won't even need the book. You MUST study for tests!! They're based on lecture so try not to miss class. Would definitely take her course again.
Are you looking for a class to fulfill IGETC ? TAKE HER, JUST TAKE HER. Not to mention, she is the best science professor ever. You are not going to find professor who is a DR, hilarious, and nice at the same time
Jen gives great lectures that are clear, be sure not to miss them or youll miss a lot of content. Her study guides are exactly what she puts in her tests, so definitely use them. Jens really sweet and caring. If youre struggling in class or outside of class, reach out to her and she will do what she can to help you.
She is a wonderful professor and is very caring and compassionate. She works with you and does what it takes for you to pass the class. Dont really need the book since all of the material that is on the exams in taken directly from the lecture slides. All exams are multiple choice with some short and answer and final is all multiple choice. 12/10!!
Jen is an amazing professor! She honestly care for every student. The tests are exactly from the study guides (which is from lecture). It was tough to study all the various topics before exams, but it helped me get an A. It isn't an easy class unless you study and work for it. I am so happy with taking this class.
One of the best teachers at SBCC! Very intelligent and passionate about biology. She also takes the time to get to know her students. To pass the class/lab all you have to do is show up, participate, pay attention, and study. Put in effort and you will do well. I would definitely take her class again!
Truly such an amazing professor. Honestly cares for each student, just put in the effort and time to study. Bio is intense however studying truly makes a difference and lab is pretty fun as well. Definitely recommend if anyone needs Bio 100, such a fun course! :)
Love Prof Maupin. Easiest science class Bio 100 with the lab for 4 credits. Lecture was twice a week for an hour and a half and mandatory lab once a week for 3 hours(not that bad). Labs are mandatory but if you go theres not a chance you don't get 100 percent. Lab quizzes once a week, questions directly taken from lab. 3 tests and 1 final, easy A.
I LOVE JEN! She is the best. She always provides study guides and she really cares about her students. You have to study for the tests but gives a lot of extra credit.
Professor Jen is honestly the best. She gives study guides before every test and if you study them youll do well on tests. She gives you all the materials needed to succeed. Pay attention and write the notes in class so that you can use them for the study guide. Lab is super easy, show up and pass. I highly recommend Jen!!
Jen is truly the best! She cares for all her students and is very passionate about Biology. I am not a science person but she made it fun! Love her!
Took Jen in Fall 2018. Caring, sweet, and enthusiastic professor! Lectures are easy to follow. Class is pretty easy, as long as you show up to class and lab, and take decent notes. Do the study guides for her tests, study it, and you'll pass with a good grade. Study guide is not hard to fill out, its just very time consuming.
This is a great BIO class to take if you are not usually good at science, but you need it to graduate. She makes the lectures very clear and easy to understand. You do need to go to class and study hard but there are also a lot of opportunities for points. Use the study guide and go to class!
Jen is a great science teacher. I took BIO100L as a requirement for transfer so I wasn't interested in that class at all, but Jen really makes it easy for her students to understand rather difficult bio concepts and really cares about her students' success. She is constantly there for help if needed and there isn't an overwhelming amount of work!
There arent enough words to describe how awesome this professor is. Its so important to have a professor that cares about their students and truly has a passion for the subject their teaching. The workload isnt difficult, just study and take good notes for the exams. She really has a gift for teaching and I couldnt recommend her more.
Jenn is so amazing, she really cares about her students, and puts a in a lot of work to ensure that everyone has an equal chance to succeed. Wasn't able to attend a lot of the live lectures, but the ones I did, she was very helpful. Highly recommend!
Jen is the best! loved her bio 100 class and would recommend for non science people like me! use her study guides, they are exactly what her exams cover
The lectures are extremely long when the could be 35 minutes. The study guides are extremely helpful in passing exams. She gives extra assignment during exam weeks so plan for that. Likes to discuss what she finds interesting, but it won't pertain to our exams or the labs. There is extra credit.
Professor Maupin is the best professor I have taken at SBCC so far. She really cares about her students and she is always accessible and she will help you if struggle with something. Her lectures are interesting and she explains everything really well. A lot of extra credit opportunities. I definitely recommend taking her!
Jen is so awesome. She is passionate about the field of Biology, and even though I'm not a bio person- she made it fun! She goes above and beyond to make her students feel supported in class and is always there if you need help.
Jen's the best professor ever <3
Outstanding professor, she has a passion for her job.
How to pass this class: do the labs (watch the videos, she gives the answers), take lab quizzes, watch lectures while filling out study guides (answers are gone over in lectures), and write out study guides as many times until you memorize answers. She gives extra credit, as well as a make-up test to replace lowest test score. Awesome teacher.
Jen is passionate, enthusiastic, and interesting! She has done really cool work in the field and her excitement is obvious. You don't really need the textbook. Use the study guides and watch (or attend) lecture. If you put in the work, the exams are very fair and she offers a lot of extra a credit. Jen cares a lot about her students!!!
Professor Maupin is a kind person, which makes her an even better professor. Take good notes, rewatch lectures if needed, dont be afraid to ask questions, engage with the material beyond just writing notes ( e.g. active recall), DO ALL THE EXTRA CREDIT youll work hard for your grade, but Professor Maupin is a great support and made bio fun.
Jen was my lab professor, and I absolutely loved it. I had never had an in-person lab before and I always looked forward to it every week. She is so knowledgeable on plant biology and her enthusiasm is contagious. Take her if possible!!
I had Jen for Lab for Bio 101 and she's so sweet, knowledgeable, and really helpful when you aren't sure of something. She takes the classes on walks around campus and down to the beach for some labs. If you can, definitely take her lab section !!!
Jen is a wonderful professor! She is very passionate about her field and is very enthusiastic with lectures! She makes classes + labs very interesting and I am not a bio major at all. You do have to study for the quizzes and exams, make sure to watch all lectures because the answers are usually there. I 100% recommend this professor :)
"MINIMUM SPEND 6-8 hours studying WEEKLY for my class". too many online lectures that are hours upon end long that no one listens to. everyone fails first exam and most people do not do well in her class. class was only offered online. if you have a job or in other extracurricular activities, she does not care
Jen is awesome. I miss her class. She is very caring and loves getting to know all her students. Her class is nt easy, but as long as you take good notes during lecture and study the study guide you'll be okay. she also offers a good amount of extra credit to help boost your grade.
Dr. Maupin is wonderful. She truly loves biology and teaching - in a large lecture she will get to know each of her students by name and make sure they all feel supported by her. She gives lots of extra credit opportunities, def take advantage of them! Her study guide is long, but it is exactly what the exam is, so memorize it and you'll get an A
I absolutely adore Dr. Maupin! She cares so deeply about the wellbeing and success of her students and is definitely one of my favorite professors of all time! She provides plentiful extra credit opportunities on the exams. The study guide is lengthy, but you will be very well prepared for the exam if you complete and understand it thoroughly. :)
She is so loving and kind and is very passionate about her courses. But pay close attention and take good lecture notes. She does look for VERY particular answers on exams DO NOT GOOGLE ANYTHING! if you study off the slides only, you'll do really well. She is the most genuine person ever and she's very approachable to ask for help/extensions.
I love this woman. Show up to her lectures!
Such an amazing teacher and person! its rare that you find a teacher who is so passionate about their job these days. Only thing to worry about is that the tests are very thorough and in detail and some answers are only available during the lectures so its vital to your grade that you come and take notes and draw all diagrams.
Jen is an amazing professor. Lots of extra credit. Lab quizzes are the only difficult things in this class so make sure you thoroughly learn the material + refer to what she write on the board in lab. Study guide (review questions) is basically the whole exam so if you know the answer to the questions, you'll do well on exams.
Very sweet professor!!! Cares for her students success. Her exam reviews are long (100+ questions) but they will be exactly like the exams so defineitly do the review questions! (TIP: I would fill them out during her lectures to get more accurate responses)
I loved professor Maupins class. She is super kind and has great lectures that are really engaging. There's a good amount of work but its not too bad, if you just study lecture and lab notes you can easily get an A on every exam. The field trips for lab were also super fun. Take her if you can!
Great teacher. Caring, friendly, and helpful. Group labs were so much fun, if you find a good group. Lectures are okay but really slow. I listened to them on 1.75x speed and still understood what she was saying perfectly fine. Show up for class, listen to lectures, and you'll do fine. Yes the lectures are slow but there is no cheesing the exams.
She is the best biology 101 teacher in SBCC. I took her my first year and definitely put me in track for my future. Thank you Jen.
Makes me care about bio, genuinely so nice and caring, does the best with a difficult subject
If you have the option to take her, DO IT! She is one of the best biology professors at SBCC and makes a relatively difficult subject enjoyable and easy to digest. She gives us extra credit and is always willing to answer any questions or concerns you may have.
She absolutely loves her job and she takes great consideration to students by extending deadlines and providing good resources for tests.
Professor Maupin is amazing - super engaging lectures and genuinely cares about student success. Exams are detailed but the review questions are super helpful. unstuck ai was a lifesaver for extra practice!
Jen is the best professor ever. Her lectures are always so interesting and they were never boring. If you do all of the review questions and take time memorizing them you will pass this class. She is amazing take her if you can.
Content-heavy course taught in the kindest most well-organized way possible. Posts study guide Qs & lecture slides on Canvas. Explains things clearly. Labs are lecture + mostly independent work. Read labs ahead of time! 3 lab field trips. Grade based on: Weekly lab quizzes, 4 exams, 1 700-word research paper, & 3-4 short assignments. No busy work.
Her notes and slides in lectures were well-written and readable. Although when I had asked for help, it was ignored, and felt that I was not understood or recognized. I had another event to attend for other programs in the school, and she told me it wasn't important, even though it was part of my career. I didn't feel she acknowledged her students!
