A good strong professor. She had a lot of personal experience that made the class interesting. The papers are a bit difficult but she's very willing to help with them. Class discussion is very open and she challenges students to think outside their box. Study! Her tests are worded differently than the study guide so make sure you know the material.

I found her teaching style to be very beneficial. Power points with lectures attached and textbook reading. Reviews were made available for the tests and the final covered all three tests. She is very fair in her grading and she even called everyone during the first week to make sure they were getting settled in.

NEPAL! GOODWILL! I had her for dual credit. She had powerpoint presentations and most of the test was from that. She shared anecdotes relating to the lesson about her time in Nepal and her time working at Goodwill. Reviews for all tests, final from past tests. Movie review assigned that was really long but easy, interesting movies to choose from.

I got an A because of the paper and Lowest test was dropped.

Her quizzes can be tricky at times but she is very nice and helpful! If i could i would retake that class. One of the best professors ever. You will have to write a long essay, but it is not as hard as you think.

I took this class for Summer II 2015 and I enjoyed it.! Make sure to find time to read, take good notes, and review the handouts and you'll do good. The syllabus was really clear and Ms. McSpadden gave opportunities for extra credit. I highly recommend her to anyone!

I had her for Dual Credit. She is a really good professor only if she respects your class. She told us how she isn't nice to some of her other classes because they weren't scoring grades as high as ours. Would take again because we were close. She uses a lot of real life situation to explain sociology. I enjoyed this class.

I took this class online and it was a easy A. She tells you whats going to be the upcoming test in her Lessons which she provides. 6 Discussion Boards and you have respond to 2. 3 test and 3 quizzes and 1 article review. pretty simple.

Paper is long but pretty easy to write. She gave clear point by point instructions.

She is a little intimidating at first but she is an amazing and caring teacher. Her exams in my opinion aren't difficult. You either know the material or you don't. She gives detailed reviews and when going through lectures she tells you which slides will be on the exam. There is one paper but her grading criteria is detailed!

Nice teacher, very lecture heavy. As long as you read the book and her notes from the powerpoints, you will pass. She tells you what questions from lectures will be tested. 3 tests and the final, she drops the lowest score, excluding final. All tests were curved. Keep up with the work and read, you'll pass.

I liked her. The tests were hard, but she curved. The paper was a lot to write, but she gave instructions to answer. In class she told you this will be on the test, so you can follow that and get an A.

She doesn't have a big work load, very clear of expectations from day 1 and lectures alll class, don't take her in the morning because then you will fall asleep but the class is easy.

Take this class, you will love it! She gives test reviews at the beginning of the semester, (3+final) all multiple choice. Theres a movie review thats pretty long but she has a whole outline of what she wants. Long lectures but they are very interesting. She is the sweetest lady ever. She did seem a little intimidating at first though.

Drops one out of three tests, her movie review seems like a lot but it is actually fairly easy as she gives a clear rubric of how she wants it done. Always offered herself to help out students after class. Overall a great professor.

I LOVED this class. Learned so much more than i expected. Drops lowest test grade and has 1 -14 page movie review , as long as you start on it as soon as you get it, you will do fine. Her reviews are basic points, so answer them in detail to review over yourself. I recommend printing out her slides and taking notes/highlighting as she teaches.!

Lectures are very detailed so print out the slides and make notes on that. Movie review is worth a lot but the rubric/guidelines are super detailed (I made a 100 with very little effort). I didnt use the textbook much but its up to you. Shes super helpful and willing to answer any questions, participate and shell love you!

I learned something every day in this class. It was really interesting. Follow the test reviews and you can get an A. I had to study but I did it because she dropped the lowest test grade. I super liked her.

she's a good professor, you won't need the textbook so don't bother buying one, she's very caring, towards the middle of the semester she makes her students write a 14 page paper so be ready for that

Wow. This class taught me so much more than any other class I have ever taken. The most amazing lectures ever. I learned so many valuable life lessons. The religion part at the end of the semester blew my mind. Mcspadden is such a wonderful professor I would so take her again if I could.

I loved her, well the whole class did. Easily the perfect professor to teach this class. You can tell she loves what she does which helps the students as well.

Amazing professor!! She really gets to know everyone and explains the lectures with real life examples to help you connect the theories. She gives you plenty of time for all the online quizzes. One big project but she gives you 2 months to do it! She drops the lowest test grade to help you out. Its honestly hard to fail her class.

Professor Mac cares about us. The course material is very eye-opening, no matter what your background. She has exposed me to many viewpoints about our society and the people around us. Many concepts I had previously accepted as "given" were debated and discussed openly. I feel I now have a much more open mind about the people and world around me.

This was an easy A. Exams are open book. Discussions haveto be on time, but are pretty straightforward. Some short papers were I liked doing though.

Coming into the class I was a little scared about the readings. She gives a good warning about the reading. The class as a whole was a great learning experience, she was available to help in any way even with how crazy things are. I recommend professor McSpadden, regardless of the reading load, if you need to take this class I highly recommend her.

Really enjoyed this class! Professor McSpadden has lots of great experience in her field, and she incorporates stories into lectures to help understand concepts and key terms. She gives a pretty good heads up of what will be on the exam, but you have to be in class to hear that. The textbook is free online. She wants to see you succeed!!

I really enjoyed professor McSpaddens sociology class. Shes a great lecturer and is always available if you are confused or have questions. Obviously you have to do the papers/homework and study to pass her class, if you do your part, you can easily pass with an A

You wont regret taking her class. All her lectures are interesting and engaging. Its easily to follow if you are willing to learn the material. Flashcards were probably the best way to study for this class.

Easily one of the best professors that I've had. She cares deeply about what she teaches so if you take her seriously and just show up, you are guaranteed to pass. Papers are on whatever topics you want to talk about as long as you incorporate some of the "key points" you'll do just fine.

Definitely take Professor Mac! She is amazing. Her lectures are not boring, they are very interesting especially when she tells us stories and her experiences. You will have to do essay papers but they are not hard. The test are not difficult, just study and you will be fine.

I absolutely love professor McSpadden! The textbook is online, so you don't have to purchase anything for the class other than scantrons for the test. You can really tell how passionate she is about sociology and she truly cares about what she is teaching. Show up to class and you'll pass. 10/10 recommend anything that professor McSpadden teaches!

As long as you show up for class she's amazing and goes above and beyond for her students.

McSpadden gave print-outs of all slides she used with sections to write on as well. Attendance is big must, no “pop quizzes”, but many in-class activities. I'd take her again, very clean in speech. She welcomed feedback and respectful communication during lectures. She was good about staying with the book, not opinion based.

She maintains a positive attitude, which makes the learning environment fun, entertaining, and comfortable. It's like listening to a friend talk.

Very nice class! Mostly lecture filled but there's discussions and assignments every now and then. The lectures typically involve student participation with answering questions and the slide packets are very helpful in remembering/understanding topics.

This class was definitely the most interesting and eye-opening class I've ever taken. You learn so much about our society and It's super cool. This is a class I actually was excited to go to school for. 10/10 recommend.

Gives out printed versions of her slides with space on it to write notes also tells you when something will be on the test. gives out in class assignments make sure to show up. you have to study for the test come up she does have study guides on canvas three test & one final test and two papers through out the semester and the in class assignments

Highly recommend, such a genuine and passionate professor. There are 3 major exams (not including the final) and 2 essays and a few in class assignments, but your lowest exam grade and in class assignment gets dropped. Essays can be turned in up to a week late with no penalty. As long as you put the effort and study for her exams, you will pass.

Professor Mac was a great teacher. I really enjoyed her lectures, and she does those off of a slide presentation and gives us a packet copy that we can take notes on as well. She is very smart and is so passionate about what she teaches! Just study for the tests, go to class and you'll do perfectly fine, the class is not that hard. I loved it!

Very clean and lecture heavy class. This is a hard class to fail. I would recommend this as a first choice for anyone whether their goal is to learn about sociology or just to get a credit.

I loved this class! It's definitely one of my top classes. The professor explains every topic clearly and is genuinely passionate about what she teaches. She also provides exam reviews, so you know exactly what to study. Highly recommend taking this class! she's also super sweet
