I do not like english classes or writing at all and this class did not help. She is a very hard grader and you have to read a ton out of this college reader book that does not pertain to the class at all. It was very boring and she treats you like you don't know anything. Would not recommend...
I dont like writing papers and am not very good at it. The first paper i got a C but after knowing what she wants in a paper and doing that its pretty easy. I ended up with an A in the class
OMG!!!! she treats you like elementary kids making you stay exactly until the "bell" & dragging out points that you already know just to go the whole time! do NOT take her!
Don't take this class unless you love english. She grades hard and pretty unfairly.
Gives you a lot of easy/petty hw and can earn credit in other areas than just your paper. 5 papers, 1st one isn't graded and one is 2 pages of sarcasm. last one is your "Final". Pretty easy class if you hate writing and english in gen, she will get you through this gen ed with class participation and good journal entries. Cookies when phones go off
She's good if you don't mind reading a lot of textbook essays that are only half-related to the topic, major research papers, or freewriting.
very helpful
She is very helpful. Always willing to help with your papers. I would reccomend her! Grading is very fair. Very nice lady! One of my favorite professors at UWL
Dr. M-B was wonderful! All class periods went by very fast, she is always willing to help, and you engage in worthwhile discussions. You write 5 different papers, but she is a consistent and fair grader. Loved her!
I absolutely loved this professor. I'm not a fan of writing papers, but she taught me so much to improve my writing. She was always in a good mood and always willing to help. You have homework almost every day, but it takes maybe 15 minutes. Take her! She's great!
She is an ok professor. You do a lot of little pointless readings and at times she can be a little bit of an unfair grader. Participate in the discussions and go to class. Its exactly the same as English 110, you write the same topics for papers only one is totally open for your choosing. She's nice but can be a little unfair with what she expects
Really nice professor, and pretty easy grader. You do some pointless assignments, but easy points. She always rights feedback on your papers, so you know what you need to improve/change in your next one. I don't think we had one test, just like 4 papers that she gives you plenty of time to work on, and peer reviews are done in class.
Very nice lady. We wrote 5 papers this semester, but you get to pick the topic! Lots of pointless readings you can easily avoid reading, but if you want her to like you read them and participate in discussion. If you're good at writing, you can easily get at least a B. Very helpful professor.
Super easy, it's easy to pretend to have done the readings. She makes you journal about them and each reading only takes 20 minutes or so. Pretty easy teacher!
Very simple compared to my High School AP class. You learn a lot and there isn't a lot of essays or readings compared to the AP class. If you survived a high school AP class this is a breeze. Professor is very helpful and really nice and easygoing. Go to class because there isn't a lot of students per class so she will notice if you're gone.
This class is super easy! You should go to class, because she will notice you are gone. It is also easy to pretend you have done the assigned readings. She assigns journals each class and 4 papers throughout the semester. Really easy to sit through and somewhat enjoyable. Dr.M-B is very enthusiastic about what she does, and is very helpful as well!
She talks to you like you're five. But she's very helpful if you have questions about a paper. Overall she was OK. Easy A.
Great teacher! Classes can be kinda boring but go anyways, she will notice if you don't. Not too much reading and only had 4 papers to write. She is a pretty easy grader too and is very willing to help, plus super nice. I would definitely recommend her!
She is really nice and helpful, but kind of boring. Four papers, lots of journals and discussion in the beginning. Journals are turned in eventually. One group presentation in which you have to lead discussion. Not hard at all.
Pretty blah class in general, but Dr. M-B is nice. I wouldn't call her an easy grader, but I wouldn't call her a hard grader either. Somewhere in between. If you're not sure about taking ENG 112 or 110, go for 112 with D. M-B. From what I've heard, we do about the same or even less work than 110 classes, just more in depth in class discussions.
Really nice teacher and was always ready to help if I had any questions about a paper. Reading most days, but only 10-20 and some journal entries. Made class discussions interesting and a lot of in class small group discussions. I'd recommend taking her for ENG 112 over another teacher for 100 b/c its not any harder than 110.
Have to write 4 papers. 2 of the papers are only a page or two long. the other 2 papers are 5 pages long. Typical homework is journaling about a short piece you read. Mandatory attendance and participation matter
Great instructor, had clear guidelines about what she wanted in a paper, and gave some great feedback.
Dr. M-B is the absolute best!!! She is so kind and willing to help with any questions. You have to read short essays and journal about them, but it is very easy and doesn't take much time to do. You only have to write 4 papers, and she gives you plenty of time to do them. If you put effort into it you will get good grades. Take her if you can!!!!
She was really nice and one of my favorite professors of the semester. I always wondered if the other English writing teachers were as great as her. I would highly recommend!
A Great Teacher! LOVED HER!!!
Dr. M-B is a great professor! Always willing to help and by far one of my best professors this semester. Definitely would take again!
Dr. MB is passionate about English. She gives students a lot of "busy work" it seems like. Only four papers for the class. They aren't hard to write about. She lets students resubmit their papers for a better grade, which is really nice. She gives detailed feedback about every student's papers. Overall the class is pretty easy. Class gets boring.
Passionate about English, you can tell easily. Gives WAY to much busy work; at LEAST an hour every class on top of essays and group projects. Nice enough professor but not my favorite.
She is the sweetest professor. Only four papers and she gives you about 3 weeks to write each of them and makes them easy to write. I definitely recommend her for English 110! When you're not writing papers, you read short articles and write in your journal, not difficult at all.
I love Dr. MB. She is really good at teaching this class and is super nice. She makes herself as available as possible, and wants you to succeed and asks for class feedback. Defi
Dr. MB is so passionate and cares about her students. Each class we had group discussions, and she always related our readings back to real life. Only 4 papers, and she gives plenty of time to write them and is very clear on expectations. Always willing to help out and give suggestions! One of my favorite professors.
Dr. M-B is an awesome professor. There are 4 papers and no final exam. She gives you ample time to write them, and if you do your best, you are guaranteed a good grade. Participation factors in also, but if you are shy, doing every journal assignment can save you. Go to class as often as possible as skipping too many classes can lower your grade.
Dr. M-B was a very caring professor! She gives really good feedback on papers and is extremely helpful. She is super sweet and makes class enjoyable. The only thing was that she makes you print a lot of papers that she could do for you. But overall very nice and I highly recommend her!
Dr. M.B. is the best! All of her lectures are laid back and are about the chapters of the books we read. Her essays are clearly laid out and there shouldn't be any questions because she is extremely clear in instructions when it comes to essays and group presentations. Overall amazing.
Very awesome person; tries to get to know everyone. She's very quiet, but a good teacher and helps a lot with papers! 3 big papers, no final exam. Lots of readings for journal entries but you only have to turn in 5 journals at the end of the semester. Highly suggest taking her! (PS, she's cancelled class more than any of my professors).
Dr. M.B. is a true gem at UWL. If you have the opportunity to take class from her go for it. I took Dystopian Literature from her and had a great experience. She is amazing at giving feedback and making students stronger writers without causing them to lose their own voice or style in the critiquing process. Take her class you won't regret it!
Dr. M-B's ENG 110 class is portfolio based-- meaning you write three larger essays and they are not formally graded until the end of the semester. No quizzes, tests, or finals. Super easy class. Get ready to read a ton of short stories but overall it's little work for a good grade. She gives good feedback and is accessible outside of class for help
MB is a great professor and overall a great class. The books she chose for her Dystopian Lit class were amazing. Everyday is just simple discussion and homework is just to read. Theres a paper every once in a while on the books and a creative writing one too. She also has groups teach the class which was actually pretty fun! Take her for gen eds!!
She is very nice and the books for Dystopian Literature were good. Class was interesting. The grades for this class was mostly just based on papers. I'm not the greatest at analyzing books/writing papers so it wasn't my favorite. Other ENG 200 classes aren't all papers so if you don't like being only graded on papers, take someone else.
You read a range of dystopian texts, and most of them were pretty good. The main chunk of points (about 70-80%) of the grade is based on papers. She gives good feedback on papers, and is very helpful if you email / go to office hours. Fun interactive lectures that I never minded going to. Mrs. MB is a very nice lady who cares. Would recommend.
Dr. MB is a super sweet lady with a passion for literature. Her class is interactive and engaging. You will read a lot (5-6 books) during the semester but they are usually pretty easy and fun to read. You write papers periodically throughout the semester but her expectations are clear and she is willing to help. A professor who cares. Take MB!
She is very clear on what she expects. This is a portfolio style class so papers will not be graded until the end of the semester but you get a chance to fix them if needed. Attendance is taken daily and participation is a must.
Dr MB is a great professor. She has a clear layout of what is expected for this class and really wants her students to exceed. You write a total of 3 papers and don't turn them in until finals week. You write a rough and revised draft but can touch up on them any time throughout the semester. Lots of readings but journal responses are easy.
This class was so easy. Three papers, your final is turning them in as a portfolio. Showing up for class is pointless but she makes it mandatory so if you don't go you'll fail. Most of it is irrlevant but it's so easy and Dr. M-B is so sweet and really cares about you and your progress. Highly recommend her.
Although ENG110 has lots of assignements, the work was not hard. We would have journals due the day of class and three papers to write throughout the semester. Dr.M-B is the sweetest lady I've ever met. She really cares about helping you become a better writer and gives lots of great feedback. Grading is weird though, its a portfolio based class.
Dr. M-B was a great professor and it's very obvious she cares about her students. There are only 3 papers and it is a portfolio class so you get the chance to revise your papers before handing all of them in! I loved the class and I definitely would recommend her.
I LOVE Dr. MB! She's so passionate about english and it shows. She will know you by name by the second time you meet and will take any chance to chat it up with you. You have homework for almost every lecture but they're mostly journal logs that I actually enjoyed. She gives great feedback on papers, and I would 10/10 recommend. Wonderful gal.
Most of this class is discussion. She is an easy grader on the papers. The books are interesting so you actually want to read them. Nice person. Understanding. It doesn't take a ton of effort but if you put in zero effort you won't do well.
Dr. M-B is such an amazing professor. She really cares about her students, and offers a tremendous amount. My class was online but if we missed the lecture we just had to watch it and send a short recap email to get an attendance grade. She does not grade harshly at all, as long as you do your (small) work load on time, you'll 100% pass.
Professor MB is quite honestly the best professor I've ever had. She cares so much about helping her students succeed and she makes this very apparent. The class is easy to get an A in, but that's not why students respect her. She is passionate, helpful, and her optimism is infectious. If you're unsure about taking her or not, seriously, just do it
Dr. MB is an outstanding professor. She's very passionate about what she teaches and is really cares about her students. The class consists of 3 papers, which you're able to revise and turn in as a portfolio form at the end of the semester. Highly recommend Dr. MB!
Dr. M-B is a very good professor. She cares about her students and the class, if you try, is an easy A. My only complaints is that she takes awhile to grade papers and isn't always clear on rubrics so you may have to double check what she is asking for but she always clarifies well.
She really cares about her students and wants everyone to do well. She makes sure everyone gets a chance to speak so that everyone can get a good grade.
lots of homework compared to other professors
She is so so sweet and is clear on what's expected. She gives a lot of super small assignments that are easy and you do 3 papers that she gives you lots of time for. She takes a lot of time to help us with papers and gives you lots of chances to edit them after she gives you feedback so you can get the best grade.
Dr. M-B is a truly great professor. Her lectures are actually really fun to attend, it's unlike any class I've had before! She also cares so much about her students, and was willing to work with me when I was dealing with personal issues. There is a lot of reading, and 4 papers, but it's not too bad. Would definitely recommend this prof!
Has a really good class structure that makes you feel confident when writing papers. She keeps track of attendance which counts as part of your grade, but is understanding if you have to miss class. You usually get homework every night, which can get tedious at times, but if you let her know you are stressed, she is willing to make accommodations
I really enjoyed this English class. Professor MB has very relaxed classes and cares about her students and what they can learn in the semester. You do have 3 weekly assignments - canvas active reading notes but those are pretty simple. You have one group project but she is always open to helping.
Lots of papers and readings but interesting to learn about dystopian literature
She is a good teacher. A lot of people enjoy her lecture and it definitely appeals to most people however I found it very hard to sit through some of these lectures a lot of it felt very forced and corny. She is very sweet and I am probably a hater but those were some of the longest lectures I've ever sat through.
She is so sweet and obviously cares a lot about her students. My topic was Dystopian Lit so the books were interesting. There is tons of discussion though so you have to participate. She will cold call sometimes. Lots of papers, but they're pretty easy. Midterm & Final are both take-home essays.
Overall Dr. M-B is a really nice person. I didn't like the layout of the class. Short reading and journal due the night before every class. She loves her job but cancels class a lot. A lot of homework, 3 essays. Easy grader. Attendance is mandatory and she cold calls in class. You can only miss 6 classes before getting dropped.
There were a lot of daily assignments which she called journals that were pretty tedious and repetitive. But your main focus of the class is the portfolio of the papers that you complete. Once you turn in a paper she will give you feedback but will not give you a grade. So, you kind of just have to guess. Otherwise it's not that bad.
This class is a portfolio class. You write three papers and turn them in at once at the end of the semester. Each paper is not graded but the while portfolio is. She gives good feedback on your papers and you can edit them before turning in. You do have to complete a "journal" each night which can get tedious and annoying. Overall, pretty easy.
She often gave us homework that wasn't graded and the only thing that is graded are the 3 papers. You get the grade for them back at the very end of the semester. However she is a very nice grader and wont dump your grade the last day.
Dr. MB is so sweet, she genuinely cares about each person in her class and really wants to see everyone succeed. Unfortunately her class is a TON of work for a gen ed- but still an enjoyable experience overall.
Professor MB has to be one of the sweetest professors I have ever met. She takes the time to get to know each and every one of her students and always is super helpful. The only drawback with this class is the amount of homework is insane.
I absolutely love her. She is so nice and a great professor. The class is not hard at all. All you really do is read books and write papers on them and answer some questions as you're reading the books. This class was so fun and Dr. M-B is so so awesome.
Dr. M-B is a very kind person and I enjoyed her class. I almost dropped this class the first week because I couldn't handle all the homework though. There are lots of weekly writing activities along with the readings and it was a lot sometimes. Class is very discussion-heavy. Fun class and pretty easy, but I don't think I could do it again.
An amazing professor! Highly recommend. I will certainly be taking her again.
I took ENG 200- Dystopian Literature with Dr. M-B and it was awesome! We read so many interesting books, some I have read before and some new ones. Class time is mostly discussion-based and it's always lots of fun! She keeps the class engaged and always has fun activities for us to do. I would definitely recommend this class!
She is an amazing teacher and she is so caring. She makes the class very fun and I was looking forward to class. The papers aren't bad at all and the books we have to read are easy and interesting so it isn't bad at all.
Dr. MB is the sweetest professor I have ever had. She took the time to get to know all of her students and always made me feel welcome. English is not my strongest subject but I had no problem passing her class with an A. There are 3 essays due over the semester all of which she gives ample time to work on. I highly recommend Dr. MB
Dr. M-B is the sweetest professor I have had since being at La Crosse. She takes the time to get to know her students and is the only professor to actually know my name. Her workload is very manageable, a couple readings a week followed by a short 2 paragraph journal.
She is a super caring and wants you to succussed. She is easy grader and is always willing to help with anything. I would definitely recommend her to anyone!
Professor Mohlenhoff-Baggett was the most caring professor I've had so far. She is always willing to help and she really cares about her students. She is a pretty easy grader, there are short daily assignments and 3 papers total. Take her for ENG 110!
Dr. MB was so sweet! She would frequently bring candy to class to make it more enjoyable. She really cares about her students and wants them to love writing.
I enjoyed ENG200 with Dr. M-B. You read 6 novels, with all of the reading being done outside of class. There are readings and homework due before each class, and while they can be lengthy, they were always straight forward. There are 4 papers due, but she provides ample time to get them done. Other ENG200s may be lighter, but I have no complaints!
I love how caring and sweet Dr. M-B is, however, this gen ed is the most work I have ever had! My friends had different professors and the difference in the amount of work that we did was insane. Lots of things due Saturday nights and you need to participate a lot in class."hybrid" but we were there every week except for 3 and we still met on zoom.
Her class may seem tedious at first, but once you're organized it all works out fine. Her grading is clear, and she explains everything well. If you have any questions, she answers emails fast and is accessible outside of class too. Overall she was my favorite professor all semester. Read the books for the class; they are required and interesting.
Such a caring professor! She knows every student by name and genuinely wants us to do well. Reading notes due every day before class, and 3-4 big papers. Gives enough time to complete work and values group discussions. A decent workload for a gen ed, but is such an easy grader and has clear rubrics. Take her if you can!
Dr. M-B is awesome and a great choice for an ENG 110 prof. She is kind and really wants her students to succeed. There are 3 papers throughout the semester but she gives plenty of time and guides you through them. She's always willing to help, and going to her office hours helped me a lot! Also very understanding, I recommend taking her!
