Her inexperience shows.....lectures show significant organization and effort. Tests are not so much difficult, as they are too long and too demanding of original responses. She forgets that within a time limit, students can't fully engage with an entirely foreign set of problem types.

Worst prof I've ever had. Bad notes, bad explanations, bad tests.
She chose a very basic textbook for the class, yet expects students to answer far more complex questions it doesn't begin to explain. Mathematical explanations require repetition to learn - a text that explains concepts purely in words is useless if math is required. T.A is an arrogant a**hole.
Doesn't know what she's doing. Expects students to think like her. Tests are incredibly hard! Curved both tests while other class has a 75 average. Don't take her if she is still there. Worst professor ever.
hey people,, she's actually not too bad. Yeah it's difficult - crazy difficult, i stand corrected. see, she graduated from Yale and this is her first time teaching. no wonder she's awful,, hahahaha she assumes everyone graduated from yale..
She really doesn't explain anything. She has slides already printed up. You're supposed to learn by seeing examples worked through. She just doesn't understand teaching! I tried to talk to her to clarify something but she's really dismissive and unapproachable!!!
The earlier comments were clearly written by students that didn't do well on the tests. Truth is, she teaches very well and is getting better at it all the time.
Slides and lectures were organized. Explains material quite clearly. Tests were hard, questions not systematic (ie plugin #s) but involves fundamental concepts. She's new, but she's getting better. Very knowledgable. Better than other memorize text and get 80% courses. This class actually has value.
Do not take this course unless you absolutely have to! The lectures were monotonous and the material on the tests seemed to be more appropriate for grad students. Maybe this is because the prof is new. She seems nice but, at the same time, expects way too much from undergrads. Overall, bad course...I don't recommend it.
Look, the course is not easy but you will learn a lot from it and the Prof. is really very nice and clear. If you are afraid this will hurt your GPA - don't! She will curve the marks if she has to so you needn't worry about that. I didn't want to take this class at first but now I'm very happy that I did.
One of the bright young profs here at U of T... People who did poorly in her class weren't paying attention because she focused not on plugging numbers into formulas but on concepts and understanding...
Tough and very taught.Lectures are clear, but the MC test questions are confusing. Effective as an instructor.Very approachable, holds office hours as scheduled. However, you have to go an extra mile to do well in the course. If you want “memorize past tests and pass kinda course” take someone else. There is smth geeky hot about her :-)

The first half of the course was dry and you can tell she was pretty new at teaching. But then she got way better and the second half of the course was really enjoyable. I missed one of her classes and when I went to her office hours, she actually repeated the entire lecture for me. Almost like a private class. Was really approachable and helpful.
very strict, not very helpful
Very easy statitistics prof. Online notes very helpful. Just studying the notes was sufficient to acing the exam. Must take prof!!!
Great lectures! Sometimes strict about in-class behaviour, but that is to be expected. Tough exams, but assigned homework is appropriate to tests.
Excellent Professor. Lecture notes contain all required information. I'd highly recommend attending every lecture. She clearly enjoys and puts a lot of effort into teaching.
The most articulate well spoken engaging prof! Highly reccomended. Makes leaning stats a true pleasure. See you at the Green Grocer! Hi Dr. Murdock you rock
nice person. bad prof. always needs bell curve. seriously, wouldn't u feel bad that ur students always do badly? doesn't that say something something about u?
i've heard so many negative comments about her but i found that she although seems cold at first, she is actaully REALLY approachable and knows her stuff very well. she's very responsible, everything is posted online. she will try to help u as much as possible IF U COMMIT TO THAT COURSE. she makes sure gradings r fair but doens't mean tests r easy.
Shes passionate about econ and knows the material really well , but expects too much from her students. The majority of the students take the course because its a pre-req for upper level courses, yet she makes it as if it was for stat majors. I would recommend taking other professors and going to her classes for understanding. GPA wise, no.
She is dangerous. Her mid-terms involve a lot of thinking and understanding, usually very tuff and often result in large bell curves. BUT the mid-terms prep you very well for the final.
She is helpful, nice, clear; but the exam is HARD. don't expect an A in her class unless ur a genius and a nerd. I don't regeret taking this course tho. u can learn a lot from this course, cuz it contains 2 year's material and various subjects. u will feel like a micro expert after completing this course, but for gpa, not recommended
very stimulating course, gotta put in every pound of effort, doing problem sets are vital...very tough marker on assignment. her surname ('murder') implies it all...
Went into eco220 expecting the worse. Came out feeling great. She is a very good professor and the material on her quizes are challenging but doable for any decent student.
Econ's abt trdeoff. If u dont believe me take a crs w/ jen. Shes a great lecturer u learn tons. But da downfalls dat the mats' 2 ezy=>random mark taken off tst/assg. Take home test were graded horribly. No specific instruction given but rather ESL lecture on wrtngs. Not 2b cocky but im strght A stdnt but I didnt get A :(. If ur at 4.0, steer clear!
murdock is murder........her exam is extremely hard!
Murdock was a great prof. As clear as possible and definitely had invested personal interest on student's understanding. The course itself is quite challenging, so if you don't need it and wanna maintain your GPA don't take it. But she made the material as easy as possible...which was still hard.
Horrible. take proffessor YU, he recycles tests. Murdock provides all past tests but it wont help you much. Every year she makes new questions. DONT TAKE HER
great prof, so clear, and easy to understand. Fantastic resources provided. those people that complained about her tests are hard, are probably just STUPID. she provide a great learning experience and thats whats important.
nice person, poor test, one of the test ,her section got ave about 50 while other prof section got about 80, is that really just because student's IQ?
murdock is is a good prof... 1 major problem.. she bell curves evry exam clearly shwowing students are being murdered for no reason. exams tests totaly diff frm textbook. GPA doomer!
bad professor, bad textbook, seems like a nice person though. she never goes into the depth of actual material of the content in her lectures. she seems to think she is in sync with her students, but she is not. simply, she is just a bad professor but has a nice enthusiasm. however, her course was easy, i dont know whats with the other people.
Took summer 2011 which she taught half of. Moderately hard exams. Lenient marking. For around 25%-35% of the marks, you can get A+ just by coming to class and using the iclicker (tut participation + iclicker use). Very enthusiastic lecturer. Made a boring topic into an enjoyable class. IMO easier than MAT135 & 223 and around the same as ECO100.
Awesome prof. She's clearly enthusiastic, and made a great learning experience. However, the tests are brutal and you can't do anything about it even if you study hard; I got 89% in her portion of the course after putting in ridiculous amount of time and effort; be prepared.
Great Professor! Tests were very hard. Go to Yu if you have the chance, as his tests are very easy, and he re-uses past test questions
Awesome prof, really enthusiastic and involved during her lectures. The exams are definitely very hard and she likes to keep the average around C- while other profs in Eco220 keep the average around B. So it dooms your mark to an extent. Nonetheless, one of the better profs Uoft has.
She is nice clear and hot
Very organized and clear, and enthusiastic.
Murdock's lecture were enjoyable and significantly improved my understanding of course materials. She is one of the best professors at U of T. The course was overall very hard. It required constant efforts throughout the entire semester. The textbook is very expensive but worth having!
One of the best profs I've had in undergrad so far. She is tough but explains concepts thoroughly, so go to class! Tests are extremely hard, so go to tutorials and keep on top of your readings and homework.
She makes the midterms too damn hard.
She's intense but also very engaged, with the high amount of effort she puts into teaching several lecture sections the basics of stats being very evident. Her tests are quite challenging, but she'll give you a solid grounding in stats that'll serve most people in RotmanEcon very well in their future studies.
She teaches EcoRSM students essential skills such as Multiple Regression. You will value what you learn. Prof Murdock is an amazing lecturer and puts in the extra effort to teach students. She answers every question, so you MUST ask + use piaza. You must attend lectures (iclicker counts) and SHOULD do most of the homework & then passing is easy.
Murdock has been one of my favourite profs. She is SO organized and is passionate about statistics. This is a class where it's crucial to do the homework, past tests, and review lecture notes. There aren't any surprises on the tests and exams but she challenges her students.
One of the greatest professors at U of T who you can learn so much from, if you are willing to put in the time and effort.
Her tests are the worst!! Right when you think you understand all the concepts discussed in class perfectly, then comes her impossible tests which the questions are soo different from the ones discussed in class. DO ALL THE HOMEWORK if you want to succeed in class. Super tough grader!
Definitely a difficult course, but Murdock teaches you the fundamentals and requires you to do the homework consistently in order to get a good grade
She makes the course interesting
Her lectures are interesting, as she engages the class and has charisma. Expect weekly participation in the form of i-clicker and online quizzes, however, the term tests are very clear, with loads of past test up on the site for you.
This course is so hard. There are so many term work that force you spend so many time on this course(5 tests and 1 ECM test). And she made the test quite hard. I wish I took Yu's class
Her approach in teaching stats is definitely correct. Weekly quizzes and multiple term tests forces you to keep up (very important in a cumulative course). Lectures are very clear. Make sure you put in decent effort (2-3h of studying) each week and you're good.
HORRIBLE prof. expects students to spend roughly 5 hours week doing her portal quizzes/hmwk. tests are hard and sometimes her test questions are unclear. would never take her class again
She is a very tough grader and makes your work for your grade more than any other prof!
The best professor I've had in UofT.
Fantastic professor, you notice how passionate she is about the course. Attend the lectures for supplementary notes for the lecture slides and iclicker marks. At times, the course concepts are confusing.
Hands down one of the best professors I've had at UofT. I expected to hate statistics but somehow, Professor Murdock has made it one of my favourite courses. Don't expect to do well without putting in the work; you'll be greatly rewarded if you keep up with all the homework, quizzes, and lectures. Her passion for statistics is contagious!
she is the most inspiring professor I have ever seen. really patient and her class is really useful !
I enjoyed this class
I enjoyed this class a lot.
Fantastic professor. Her passion for the subject matter motivated me and I learned so much about statistics. Great lecturer and would definitely want to have her as a professor again
Amazing professor! She is so structured and if you follow her recommendations on how to succeed in the course from the beginning, you can dedicate 8 hours a week (including class) and land yourself an A+! The mandatory weekly portal quizzes incentivize you to stay on top of your work, which is a helpful feature. She makes statistics interesting!
Although her class is a lot of work and her tests are not easy, you learn the most out of her class, and she's really passionate about helping her students succeed. I personally think she was good at explaining some of the hardest concepts, and it is a course you can do well in.
really goof teaching strategy and very inspirational
terrible, worst teacher ive ever had. stay away at all costs! she literally wants you to do bad
Hardest course ever. I would avoid it.
be repaired to lower your CGPA. would take in summer school
good prof, the tests are tricky though.
Murdock is exceptional, but only if YOU are willing to do the work. She gives you everything you need to succeed with homework sets and portal quizzes. They are every week and time-consuming. If you do it you will do well, if you don't you won't. Her lectures are very well structured and she understands how students think. Best teacher I ever had.
Amazing professor! I have learned so much in this course and I am able to apply the knowledge I learned here into my other economic courses & when reading professional economic journals. This course is hard, do not expect to just breeze through. You must do the homework and the quizzes are deadly (every weekend). Well worth it though.
without a doubt one of the best professors ive ever seen she has an unbridled love for statistics that you can tell from your first class, this is a rather hard course and has some difficult concepts but if you have to take a stats course you wont find a funnier, clearer and overall amazing lecturer, go to class and youll never need to open ur book
see some people giving her a bad review, the class is a bit hard but you get sheets with tons of formulas so there is no memorization, u just need to understand the concepts and then know which formulas to apply, if you want a bird course stay away, but if you either want to really learn or need to do well in a stats course this is ur best bet
Professor Murdock is a fantastic professor, who is willing to help students and cares about them. I highly recommend getting into her section. There are iClicker questions every class that count for marks so attendance is required. She is a tougher marker than others from what I've heard (C+ average), however you won't regret taking her class.
Dont ever take this professor.
You will learn a lot if you put the effort, but dont expect it to be reflected in your CGPA
Hate this prof and her stupid rounding margins grrrr
Awful! Hard tests, low test averages, claimed that she is a fair course coordinator, which is absolutely not at all. Different professors have average of 20+ marks higher. Totally unacceptable. Insane!
TAKE HER CLASS! She will make you master stats necessary for an econ major if you are willing to work hard. Yes you will have to work hard week in week out to keep up with all the material, but it is very rewarding. Lectures are just too good. Worth the hard work.
Murdock teaches a very tough course in the best way possible. She is amazing at her job. To do well, you will need to do the work, but she provides all the resources to succeed. You will learn so much in her course if you keep up with the work and stay engaged. Highly recommend - world class professor.
Looking back, one of the ONLY classes I found valuable to take, despite not being related to my career of choice. Once in a while, I'll be reading an article with statistics in it, or working with a team on experiments, and realize that with the knowledge I gained from this course, I have the ability to go deeper. P. Murdock is a solid choice.
Hands down the best professor I had in university so far. If any students are considering taking her, please do, you will not regret it. Although she gives a lot of works and quizzes they 100% help with your understanding of the class. Professor Murdock always keep her students up to date and her organization is incredible. She is honestly the best
There's a reason she's been teaching for so long and became the course coordinator. She's honestly so kind and upbeat and brings so much life to an otherwise boring class. Please take her for ECO220! The tests are very fair if you study and keep up with homework and this is the only class where I actually enjoyed attending lecture every week!
She is literally a goddess. Her explanations and expectations are perfectly clear from day 1. The first test is the hardest and it gets easier afterwards. She's the most passionate prof I've met at UofT.
Avoid her to save your gpa
Best professor in U of T, easy to get a good grade if you put in decent effort. She teaches so well and provide many easy quiz after class to improve your understanding.
Prof. Murdock is brilliant. So passionate about stats, really wants her students to succeed. Yes, it is a challenging class. But, if you really put in the effort and do the homework and readings every week, you should be able to achieve success in this class. Office hours were also very helpful.
Her lectures and course work is VERY structured but once you get the hang of it, you can do fairly well. Course requires a large amount of work (class attendance, clicker questions, weekly quizzes...) but it ultimately helps you learn and she makes the process worthwhile (usually will help to boost your final grade). Definitely would recommend!
Hands down the best prof I've ever had at U of T. Genuinely wants you to succeed and gives you every tool in the book to do so. She is also very involved in trying to improve her own course something which further shows how much she wants you to succeed. If you get the opportunity to take her, do not pass it up!
She is one of the best professors I have had, but not one of the most pleasant. You really learn a huge amount from taking her course, complex topics actually make sense. Why she's not a five is because interpersonally she can be a little abrasive.
Avoid if you are not a genius, hard work is not sufficient to get by.
One of the best professors I've had in university and teaches incredibly well. Yes, really do have to put in the work, but if you do it'll be one of the most practical courses you'll take. Very passionate about her subject and uses lots of examples in teaching, and gives helpful hints for tests for studying.
THE BEST PROF EVER - Clear, caring, and responsible. All she wants students to do is to keep up and I dunno why that would be "too much work" (the only extra thing is the weekly quiz but makes exam preparation so much easier). Lastly, if you realize how much work she did and emotions she had after COVID-19, you'll be thankful. Period.
The best prof in UofT! Besides her lectures are incredibly amazing and every work in this course is well designed, she really cares about her students and passioned to make students learning the best. Honestly, her tests are not hard at all as long as you did everything she suggests. The knowledge itself is hard but Prof. Murdock is making it easy.
Murdock is a strong lecturer with an outstanding ability to convey information. She is among my favorite instructors at UofT. She is incredibly organized, clear, and thoughtful when it comes to her lectures. I never felt lost. Also, the availability of practice problems was good. I also liked that she focussed on understanding, not memorization.
Professor Murdock made you work for it for sure, and if you miss class or try to cut corners you might find it hard, but she's also the type of prof that 1. Tries supper hard to make lectures rewarding and useful 2. Made stats exciting, somehow 3. Is honest in her grading 4. Gives you all the tools to succeed! I honestly loved her
Love her lecture style, clear, concise, lots of examples. Don't worry about 9am DACM tutorials, you're allowed to go to different sections. There are weekly quizzes and iClickers, but they help your understanding. Tests are straightfoward, no "tricks". The course has a lot of content, but Prof Murdock makes it digestible.
Best lecture experience! Her lectures were very engaging and interesting, and her lecture slides were clearly organized with spaces for notes. Pop quizzes during lectures for participation marks and weekly quizzes, but these really helped me to stay on track of every week's class, and studying for tests became less stressful.
Participation requirements are unclear, there are too many assignments to keep track of and she posts random additional assignments on random weeks. Quizzes are hardly related to course content. I feel more confused after listening to lectures than I did before.
She's a very good professor, can make something boring seems interesting in her lecture videos. Really changed the way I look at probability and statistics. However, keep in mind there are a lot of readings to do.
Pros: Makes online school fun. Would watch her lectures even if it wasn't one of my classes. Is passionate about what she teaches Cons: mandatory textbook readings (online, tracked), her lecturing style makes everything seem so easy even though its hard (not necessarily a bad thing but hits hard when you get to practice problems)
Professor Murdock has to be the single most organized teacher I have ever had, and this makes an introduction to econometrics course that could have easily been super difficult so seamless. Lectures are straightforward and clear, homework materials are a lot but are good representations of the tests, and the Excel tutorials are very applicable!
Murdock is very organized and provides good lectures, but the workload of this course is unreasonable. Plus, she is unwilling to be understanding with students and offers zero flexibility despite challenging times. Doubles the workload of any of my other courses. I'd avoid her if possible. I really hated the course and experience.
I have never cried more and stressed more about courses until I began to take Prof. Murdocks ECO220 class. Ngl, I am a hard working student and my grades usually reflect it but the work load (double lecture weeks, sometimes double quizzes (which are arguably more difficult than the tests) and more make me doubt myself. Bye bye mental sanity!
She however has no clue how to treat students (sending us emails with regards to 'mental health resources' is useless). We were provided with a ton of work over reading week; something ive never had in UofT, in any of my courses. posts 2 lecs a week if we have a holiday. I'm breaking my back finishing all her useless perusal comments and other stuf
I <3 Murdock but I think I exist in a diff universe than her! Maybe im just not on her level, even tho my IQ is near 3 s.d. above the mean :P I say "HUH?" and listen to what she said 5 times and still struggle. Then I go to youtube and listen to someone else explain the same concept and understand immediately. Same when reading her writing.
Prof Murdock genuinely cares about her students - sent me a personal follow-up email to check-in when I was experiencing mental health issues. Engaging lectures (pre-Covid). There's weekly homework and quizzes, but if you do them, the test questions should come as no surprise. Also just SUPER useful for someone who's planning on working in policy.
The most burtal 2nd year course LOL! Did pretty bad even after I tried by best, but oh well I passed. However she still gives good lecture, but it just wasn't in my field of expertise.
She seems like a decent person but speaking from personal experience, she doesn't care about her students' wellbeing. The course itself is also a pain because of its ridiculous workload and hard material. The combination of a difficult course with an uncaring professor is pretty self-explanatory. She does seem passionate about what she teaches.
Taking ECO220 with professor Murdock made me decide that I want to specialize in statistics and follow a statistics career path. In other words, she made me love statistics so much that I would like to spend the rest of my life with them. Her TA's were also great. Downside: Course is approx 2x workload of a regular course.
It seems like Murdock doesn't care about her students well being at all. Assigns work for reading week and winter holidays. Extremely heavy work load, with weekly quizes (sometimes two quizes a week), useless Perusall reading/ commenting, tough grading on tests.
Shes very engaged, you can tell shes very passionate with what she is doing. I enjoyed her lectures and it was much easier to focus because of how enthusiastic she is. But, there is a lot of homework: weekly readings, tutorials, short writing assignments and quizzes. Need 8 hrs of work or more a week to do decent in the course.
She seems like a very nice person, but honestly, it feels as though the class's intention is to break students down into dropping the course. Every week there is a quiz that is near impossible to get a 50% no matter how well you follow the lecture. Weekly readings and tutorials are graded harshly for reasons I can't comprehend. WORKLOAD IS INTENSE!
I struggled to answer test or quiz questions, not cause I didn't grasp the concepts being tested, but because it took me so long to read and understand the phrasing of questions. Sometimes you read full pages to get to 'the actual question'. Graded readings by due date no flexibility in personal schedule. Use of boldunderline everywhere annoying
She is super enthusiastic and we can def see her passion for teaching! She is a qualified professor in many aspects. The only thing is this course requires a super heavy workload, so, be prepared... You can achieve an A if you would like to put at least 8 hours per week into this course, that is all matters.
I do think she is a very dedicated Professor and nice person. The grading was a bit tough, but overall her lectures are clear and understandable. However, I think that she is super demanding time-wise, and its irritating considering we have other courses as well. You need to spend a lot of time on this course if you want to do well.
If you don't need to take this course for your specialist/major/minor requirement, only take this course if you honestly enjoy statistics. She is probably the most passionate prof i've ever had at uoft but man the course is so brutal. You need to spend at least 8 hours a week to do decent (65+) because the workload is double any other course.
Despite being organized and passionate, Prof. Murdock created a terrible experience. It is 2 times the workload of any other course. So many weekly obligations, it was difficult to keep up through the entire year. Almost like a robot. Honestly made my year so much worse - avoid her if you can.
Very passionate about teaching and is engaging in her lectures. However, you have 10 different weekly obligations just to keep up in class. The test format is simple but has very specific questions that you must describe in two sentences. Making it incredibly hard and the margin of error is super low so you need to be precise and accurate.
ECO220 was definitely a lot of work, but her lectures and instructions were quite clear. Homework and past tests were good practice. Overall, course was very well organized.
She is passionate about stats. But eco220 (online) had a huge workload. She assigned work for reading weeks and for the winter break. Test were harshly graded. Many deadlines, so much that you barely have time to really understand. You simply become a robot to complete all of the assignment/quizzes/test/homeworks/DACM quizzes/readings
Is clearly a knowledgeable prof. in stats, however, her expectations were unrealistic for an online environment. Even after completing all the required deliverables and quizzes and HW, this prof will slap you with difficult tests and be even harsher with the marking. It's like she thinks this is the only course you're taking. AVOID IF POSSIBLE!!
She obviously knows her stuff and works hard to keep the class quite organized with much TA support you can ask questions from. I do find the test grading to be somewhat strict, and she doesn't explain things intuitively for my learning style when I go to office hours.
Murdock was always happy to help students in office hours or on Piazza. The content was very hard, but she always curved the test marks to keep the averages consistent. She is very kind and caring to her students, and tries her best to help students whenever they ask for it.
Murdock is amazing - clear lectures with a sense of humor, course is so well integrated and so useful for real life. grading is extremely fair, expectations are well informed. SO much extra help available, many reminders, various opportunities for extra credit. My fav course so far.
I took this course online, which contributed to a heavier workload with readings we had to annotate, tutorial participation, and weekly quizzes. While I stayed on track, there was so much I didn't take each evaluation as seriously as I should've. Regardless, Prof Murdock is an excellent lecturer and ensured her videos were clean-cut (no um's/uh's)
I took ECO220 in the Fall2020-Winter2021 school year. Prof Murdock made the course simple to understand as long as you took the time and effort to pay attention in lectures and do the work. You could tell she loved what she was teaching which made the lectures more fun and interesting. Extremely heavy workload however.
My experience with this class and professor is horrible. A lot of unecessary work and aspects of the course which increase the workload of this class a lot. Such as DACM which feels impossible to succeed in no matter how hard I try because there are no partial grades. She changes lecture times constantly and tests are difficult and graded toughly.
Teaching and grading style is horrendous when paired with the workload, and the grading of tests is extremely hard. Taking this class seems way harder than it should be. Wish the best to any students looking to take this course..
Teaching style is very tough and makes statistics a pain to study. It will be very difficult to accurately grasp material due to very close deadlines which are recurring throughout this course. DACM quizzes are such a pain and no instruction regarding DACM is given in class and workshops are not very useful.
deadlines too close and workshops not focused at all. Overall too much content and deadlines to hard to balance.
it feels like your on your own taking this class compared to others as lectures and tutorials are uselss and the expectations for the class are too high in terms of the amount of content and harsh grading.
TOO MUCH CONTENT, and workshops are useless as the professor attempts to practice questions in a room with 100 people, and it seems like no one knows whats going on. Tests are too close together as well. I wouldn't reccomend you take this class with Jennifer Murdock as it seems she loves to tank your grade.
Overall a good prof, knows what she's talking about. Very heavy workload and lots of deadlines. Workshops are essentially useless but mandatory for participation marks.
-Challenging concepts but if you take STA130 before taking this course, they will be more manageable. -Textbook was useless. Just study her lecture slides and be familiar with the background of case studies. -Knowledgeable prof, but her workshops were useless. Attendance was mandatory for participation though.
By the grace of the econ gods, I ended up with an A after getting demolished in ALL the mids. Keep up with participation because it holds the same weightage as a mid (insane). Great at teaching but does not care about her student's well-being. Read the book because she doesn't go over everything in lectures. Came out a satisfied yet broken woman.
I would say she is mean and teaching staffs are harder. The lectures are not helpful for reviewing or doing the test.
ECO220Y with Professor Murdock was one of the most educational courses I have taken to date. Murdock is very passionate - which is evident in her enthusiasm. she is excited about the material, which makes you excited about the material! Murdock's test are extremely fair. if you put in the work, you will succeed!
Includes useless content, which she thinks this useful but only makes her lecture harder to catch up. Prolix and make easy knowledge seems difficult. Absolutely a bad instructor.
Workload is simply too high and unrealistic. Take stat 237 + 238 .
no lecture recordings etc are provided which makes it hard for you if you didn't understand any content and want to go over it before an exam. Class focuses heavily on self study from online videos because the videos she makes don't make use of real examples with real numbers which makes it harder to understand the formulas.
Worst prof ever. Content is actually quite easy but she makes everything too confusing by using a ton of unnecessary examples. Way to much course load. Just feels like she genuinely enjoys teaching and enjoys assigning a bunch of stuff for the fun of it.
Uoft's finest. You gotta work for it, but she gives so many opportunities to earn marks in class & through DACM. Exam content is SO fair (I'm still getting demolished but that's on me) and she's so passionate, I genuinely look forward to her lectures! She truly tries to help wherever she can & has given great advice for my goals beyond her class :)
Jenn is an amazing prof who has designed a fantastic stats course. All the lectures flow into each other, semesters are divided into comprehensible units, and she provides clear guidance on what is necessary to study. Not sure who is saying workload is too high and unrealistic - Im saying this with a full-time course load and a full time job
Great prof, lectures are well put together and actually teaches the material.
Murdock literally prays on your downfall. The class is not difficult but she makes it so much harder. She is a tough grader and you wont get full participation marks even if you attend all the workshops. Please, please, please avoid taking ECO220 or any other class with her at all costs.
Amazing professor and ECO220 was the best class I've taken at UofT. Murdock is really caring and despite the demanding workload, gives you plenty of opportunities to succeed if you're willing to put in the effort. The course was very much straightforward, well-organized and wonderfully taught. There were never any surprises.
Murdock hosted great lectures that really solidified the concepts taught in the pre-lecture videos. Gave students the opportunity to practice, apply and review which was very beneficial towards comprehension. The course material is hard, but as long as you are not lazy, the workload is definitely manageable and success is very attainable.
Queen! Not an easy course but she gives you everything you need to succeed. I enjoyed the workshop style lectures but they may not be for everyone since it forces you to always keep on top of the weekly lecture videos. Very accessible during student hours. All the case studies are very interesting and the data-based assignments are taxing but fun.
I was never good at economics or stats in general, but Murdock made everything digestible and easy to learn. The key to doing well is preparing early. All the past tests were accessible including their answer keys, and I completed all the past tests multiple times before tests. Grading was clear and fair. One of the best profs I've had so far.
If you are a math person more than an english person, avoid her at all cost in ECO220.
Seems nice and enthusiastic at first but very dismissive of students.
The lecture videos are with high quality, and the material of past tests are enough for you to prepare for the test. BUT, she is a harsh marker and I am not feeling valued during the workshop. I would never take her courses. Tests are hard and requires high ability of English reading.
Although seems enthusiastic but dismissive. Often purposely tries to make tests and assignments difficult by phrasing questions in a very abstract and misguiding way. Throws many workloads at you in a tight timeframe. Tests questions are abstract purposely to distract students from getting the right answer.
Made my life hell.
Unnecessary workload to make your life harder. I missed a mid-term and submitted a request for a makeup mid-term, a day before the exam. Apparently, that's beyond the deadline. HOW DO YOU EXPECT ME TO SUBMIT THE FORM AT 9, WHEN I GOT SICK AT 11. Worst college experience by far.
Murdock is a tough but fair professor. Her lectures are engaging, and she provides all the resources you need to succeed, like past tests and answer keys. With preparation and consistent effort, even non-math people can do well. unstuck AI was a lifesaver for practice and review.
I can't believe this professor doesn't have a course email and doesn't reply to any questions in the Quercus. The exams are extremely hard, averaging about 65, and term test 4 is just one week before the final exam. I don't know why the professor set up the weird schedule.
She runs her courses like a well oiled machine, you have to come prepared or else you will get crushed but if you put in the work week in week out you will be rewarded. Most people who have a problem with her actually have a problem with her expectations for her students but for a class as fundamental as 220 those expectations are justified
Worst econ prof at uoft, do not take her course
I think the people who have problems with Prof Murdock are the people who didn't put in the effort. ECO 220 is probably one of my most enjoyable classes. Yes, you had to watch videos every week and then come to workshop, but she made every workshop very worthwhile and engaging with the different papers we discussed each week. 100% would recommend!
I don't like how she teaches and scheduling lectures. She pushes students so much. Attending every lecture with crowdmark paper to be completed is totally a nightmare. I feel so exhausted taking her class
Professor Murdock is by far the best professor I've ever had. It would be foolish not to enrol in her section. She provides an enormous amount of practice, and constantly emphasizes content which shows up on exams. There are no tricks in this course, BUT it is a course that requires you to put in the effort (ie. watch weekly videos, do homework).
really enjoyed professor murdock's eco220 course. well structured and extremely organized from start to finish. she offered plenty of resources to study from. did not like the DACM module as much, which felt less comprehensive than murdock's lectures. this course is very similar to the first year econ courses: huge class sizes and test heavy.
I'm genuinely surprised by the low reviews for Professor Murdock. Having taken all the required Econ courses, I can easily say she's the best professor. Her classes are well-organized and provide plenty of prep material. Do the homework, watch the lecture videos, and complete practice exams and you'll succeed if you follow through.
Not a kind professor, we are all students just trying to succeed and get into/stay in our programs. She makes it so much harder and for what. I do not recommend taking a class with her there is 0 sympathy towards student struggles.
Take Karen or other professors if you have the choice! Murdock LOVES to make your life difficult, given the way she constructed the DACM modules. While I appreciate the effort she put into the videos, there's absolutely no reason to take the in person lectures with her.
If there's any professor at UofT I would want to take again in my 2 years here, it is her. Absolutely wonderful prof, you can see the effort she puts in while teaching. Makes course content easier to understand as well - though, you gotta do ur pre-class prep.
Professor Murdock is my role model. I can only hope to become as amazing and knowledgeable as she is in the future. She is extremely organized and while there are a ton of things you need to do, they really help if you build up good habits throughout the year. I was very intimidated at first because of the reviews, but soon realized how nice she is
GREAT Professor. She explains concepts very clearly, both in person and on recorded videos. Very nice, and accessible professor, who constructs the course in a way that allows you to recover even if you fail one midterm. Be ready to put in some solid work, as she teaches courses that get hard, and require precision and knowledge.Strongly recommend
This is a very tough, very busy class. You will devote many many hours each week to understanding concepts and calculations. Murdock is not trying to make your life easier, so so so many assessments and it's very hard to do well, because of the multi-part questions that depend on previous answers. Stay away if you don't absolutely love econometrics
She's a good prof and explains well but she makes attendance unnecessarily harder. Like it should just be show up and you get 100 but she actually checks the correctness so you lose marks there. Also if fridays don't have DACM she still makes u show up for unhelpful TA sections.
