great class, she's really fun, even at 8 am! hope she comes back after the baby
Prof. Younkin is delightful. Her psych of women class was so entertaining and interesting. This teacher is hot!!!
easy, fun class. no text book, no reading, study guides. favorite class of the year.
Prof. Younkin is really nice and super easy! If you want an easy A, just use the study guides! However, if you would like to learn a lot of cool things about psych, find another instructor...everyone i know was bored bc we can read the notes ourselves!
Energetic, funny, witty, intelligent, and an all-around joy to learn from. Besides that, SHE'S FREAKING BEAUTIFUL/HOT/SEXY......she twinkles those eyes and gives you a smile that melts you. Keeps me coming back....
She is really sweet and really wants you to do well in her class.....higly recommend!
Shes so amazing and fun. It didn't seem like class when I was there. She treated us like equals. I would definitely take another class with her
can be horrible if you get on her bad side
AMAZING professor! I've never had a class so interactive & entertaining. Her Lifespan Development class is a MUST! She is also sooo helpful. She really wants her students to learn & makes sure they understand everything. Grades are easy too, just quizzes!
Jen is an excellent teacher, and her class was a LOT of fun. She is young and down-to-earth, and she makes the material easy to understand. I highly recommend taking this awesome class!!
Jen is an awesome teacher. She relates to the students and makes learning fun. Her Lifespan Development class is great, even for non-psych majors. She is one of the few teachers who you look forward to seeing first thing in the morning!
There's NEVER a dull moment in this lecture. She is so perky and enthusiastic! Her sense of humor is priceless! It's like going to a stand up comedy every time! Two-for-One deals are always a GOOD thing! Makes me want to continue PSYC studies!
She's nice and cute and has a great sense of humore until it comes down to actual work. The tests are a little tricky, and she started scanning student IDs for attendance, she collects 11 papers and only 5 at random count. Personally,i wouldn't reccommend
She was so nice and very upbeat. She puts all of the notes online and her tests a so easy. Even offers 10 extra credit points.
She's nice. Thats it. Perky yes, a little *TOO* perky, yes. Class is too easy for those of us who've taken psych in high school. Goodluck for those who wish to suffer through candy rain of gumdrops and lemon drops.
pretty easy class. puts slides on blackboard, gives extra credit, if you can get through her perkiness, somewhat high pitched voice and her constant eye brow raising you'll do fine. for the most part she makes things fun... just somewhat annoying
I had to retake this class because Dr. Porter failed me the first time I took it! I had her this semester and she was great! She makes it impossible to fail with the thousands of extra credits. I failed 2 of the tests and still made a C in the class bc of extra credit! TAKE HER she is really nice!!!
Great teacher, very energetic
LOVED THIS TEACHER!! She is very funny, her personality is awesome. If you like classes that encourage disscussion, definitly take her classes. I hope to have more classes with her in the future.
Jen is a fabulous teacher. I'd recommend her class to anyone and everyone, psych major or not. She's entertaining, spunky, funny, kind, and very clear. Her tests are easy to prepare for and she goes over everything. Her notes are posted and she makes this class a delight to take.
Easy class. no tests, all quizzes, 6 short, easy writing assignments (the 6th is strictly for extra credit). That said, I didn't like the lectures. I didn't actually learn anything in the class. when someone offers a thought contrary to hers, she shuts you up with a "that's just not how it is."
VERY GOOD TEACHER! U still need to study the material she teaches to get an A. But she's so Fun and makes class great. She's hilarious and makes class fun. If u don't take her, ur missing out!
BEST TEACHER a student could ask for, you have to work for your grade but she makes it fun enough that you do not realize that you are! Could not of asked for a better teacher!
Online course, in the summer, so laid back. All you have to do is do the assignments, read the book, do the study guide, and take the tests. She even throws out questions that a lot of people missed, giving you extra points. After all that, there are still those individuals who are just lazy. Awesome class, would be cool to have it on campus.
Go to class....so you can get ALL THE INFO (she tells you) that u need to knwo for tests!! FUNNY, sarcastic...class goes quick...
she is a great teacher.
She is one of the sweetest teachers I've met. She is extremely funny and cool. She is rather laidback but she doesnt put up with stupid things. She lets some things slide but overall she is a GREAT professor. I recommend her for any class.
Jen is an amazing professor. She is interested in the material and it shows. She is also fair, helpful, and fun. Take this class and learn a lot AND get a good grade!
The tests are easy to the point of stupidity but the classes are interesting and engaging.
AMAZING PROFF!! she is such a sweetie and makes herself available. she is super hilarious and really engages you with the work. tests are ok... definately study.
shes awesome. i had her for intro to psyc and i really wanted to take her again. yay for jen.
Excellent teacher, very available and funny. Lets you know what will be on tests no tricks. She's also my advisor and she's a fabulous person.
Jen is a great professor and advisor. She wants her students to learn the material and remained engaged in class. She is hig energy which helps you stay interested. She always goes the extra mile giving extra credit recommnedation and more. She's one of the best professors I have ever had!
Jen is the BEST professor ever. Period.
BEST PROFESSOR EVER!!! Take this class!!! :)

GREAT!!! GREAT!!! GREAT!!!
Jen is an awesome teacher, I feel lucky to have had her assistance both as a teacher and as an advisor. She brings a lot of energy to class and manages to make any topic interesting. Even if you stayed up until 2am the night before, you're still not going to fall asleep in her class because she's so entertaining. Take her if you get the chance!
She gives good study guides and is very funny!
Professor Younkin is awesome! She could do her own comedy routine! She gives great notes and study guides let you know everything you need for the test.
She is undoubtedly a great professor! Very enthusiastic which helps for her teletechnet courses. You really must study for the tests though and do the assignments!
Took her for an on-line class over the summer. You must definitely read the book so that you can do well on the tests. The papers that are assigned are interesting and not too difficult. She does a good job at communicating over blackboard and always replies to e-mails. Highly recommend her!!
I took this class in the summer so it was pretty laid back...she was pretty slow answering emails and responding to concerns but most profs. are in the summer. The material wasn't too difficult and was pretty interesting. Lots of writing, but she's a pretty easy grader and gives good topics.
teacher is no help! i studied, read the chapters and still did bad on the tests. The tests are tricky and when I contacted her for help she basically said all you have to do it studied! Well that is what i was doing and still not doing good! She is NO help! Do not take this class with Youkin!
Her class is EASY, her tests are HARD! Well, sort of. The trick to this is to USE THE STUDY GUIDES.
Her class is EASY, her tests are HARD! Well, sort of. The trick to this is to USE THE STUDY GUIDES. I was doing HORRIBLE on the 1st 2 tests, hence why I'm getting a C in the class, but the 3rd test, I took the study guide, wrote down the page numbers/reviewed the info, and got a 94! Wow, what a concept, she gives it to you, USE IT!!!!
Took her online Psych and Law class. SUCH a great and interesting class. Not too much teacher interaction, spoke more wth the TA but was still a fun class. She gives you AMPLE time to take the exams (3-4 days), I missed one completely so my grade plummeted but other than that I did GREAT. She is a great advisor and a fun person.
Lively teacher, loved her. Very interesting class with great discussions. One of the best Psych teachers. Teaches clearly. Study guides helped alot on tests. As long as you do them, you should do fine on the test. Many extra credit opportunities, take advantage of it. Would definitely take her again :)
She is hilarious and a really good professor. She is extremely helpful and isn't hard to get a response from her. Tests aren't too bad just read over the notes she gives in class and its no problem.
She is great, really funny. makes me want to go lesbian!
I had her for psychology of women. The course was very interesting. She is a great teacher. The study guides for her tests are very useful, so use them. There are weekly forums on blackboard for extra credit oportunities and other assignments due, but overall very good class.
I had Psycology of Women through online class. Her syllabus was clear and the work was well spaced. Read the material and complete the work on time and you will do well.
Psychology of Criminal Behavior. Jennifer Younkin's TA (Amy White) is a tyrant. Check out this quote from a recent TA email: "From now on, any paper containing more than 20% quoted material will receive a 0, regardless of whether or not the quotes are properly cited." "This level of academic laziness is unacceptable at the collegiate level."
Online course so you learn on your own. Five 2+pg papers & 4 tests. Tests aren't bad if you study the book. Doesn't provide power points, just outlines. Negative: Papers graded by grad asst. Several opportunities for extra credit.
Discussion Board (Xtra credit), 5 papers and 4 tests. Need book for tests because no power points. TA was a big problem- caustic and negative & she graded assignments.
Overall a good class. A few papers to do that are easy 100's as long as you follow guidelines. Tests are easy, just look at the outlines she gives you. There is extra credit in case you miss an assignment or what not. I would recommend this prof and will be taking her again.
The class was interesting and useful, but couldn't stand the TA, who demeaned students for their writing ability and cut down our grades with every opportunity. Would have liked to have taken the course with someone else.
I love love love Professor Younkin! She was always so helpful in all my classes and as an advisor. I could tell she was extremely busy, but she was smart, thorough and she actually seems to care. It's usually a bit of a challenge taking her class, but I left feeling like I actually learned something from her! :)
I have had Professor Younkin for several online psyc classes. They are ALL set up the exact same way with the same types of assignments due. She is SOOOO EASY! Just do your work and read the book and you are FINE! I don't like her TA's half the time, but who cares! She has a ton of classes, so TA's are a must!
She is cute as a button and will make you giggle. I took her online Psych 351 course and it was a breeze. Make sure you keep up with the work and you should do just fine! Great professor!!!
Senior Seminar. This class is definitely a relaxing class, with a light atmosphere. It was very nice to come in and not have to stress. Not a lot of work, and what you learn and do in this class is very useful for the future. Professor Younkin is so nice, and she is genuinely concerned for our futures. Take this if you need an easy class and credit
Brilliant teacher. Her teaching style and approachable demeanor keep me taking her courses. Psych material can get repetitive but she keeps things fresh and interesting! Awesome lady!
I am taking her online now, and its very confusing! It is her and her two TAs, and they are very unclear on assignments and take forever grading them. The tests are ridiculous, the whole class did poorly she had to give extra credit. Students email me everyday because they are lost and confused
Loved her class!! Everything is clear and explained in the syllabus. Read her online outlines- it helps study for the exams
Teacher did not make assignments available until the week they were due. So for an online class, you couldn't get ahead. Isn't a pleasant professor to talk to either. Overall I disliked her online class. I would not recommend her.
As long as you pay attention to the class syllabus and utilize the powerpoints and exam outlines you should pass this class with an A. She offers a decent amount of extra credit totaling 15 points. Other students did poorly on the exam, however, I am inclined to believe that they did not properly use the materials available to them.
Took this class online and it was great. She's crystal clear when it comes to explaining what she wants from you and you can even work ahead on assignments (not tests). Even though the tests are timed they are not TOO hard because everything is straight from the book. She also offers plenty of extra credit. Easy A or B at the least
Easy class with a lot a good amount of extra credit opportunities. Keep up with the syllabus though. She's a nice lady but very stict on deadlines and WILL NOT work with you if you miss them.
Talk about easy A! I never read the book, simply completed her thorough (question by question) study guide and was ready to take on the test. She has 2 page papers due every once and a while and as long as you meet the page requirement you'll get a 20/20. Keep up with the due dates too. Highly reccommend!
Easy A! Papers are easy as long as you follow requirements. Offers extra credit that is easy. I read the book although you can get away without doing so, just complete her study guides instead. Not as interesting as I had hoped for, but I do recommend her as a professor!
Easy A. Do the assigned reading and you'll be fine.
The professor is clear for what she expects. pretty easy. I'd take her again if need be.
5 papers, 4 tests, and extra credit discussion boards. Follow her guidelines for papers, read the book and you will do fine. Not a difficult class, and she is a good professor. I would recommend her.
I took this class online. I found the papers and extra credit discussion boards to be easy and timed tests to be fair. Make sure you Read the text book. Keep up with assignment due dates because she will not let you make anything up. You will get an A.
Not an easy class if you are working full-time. Material is very interesting. The TA's were tough on the papers. If you can devote your full attention to this class, you can get an A. Nice professor.
Interesting class. Need lots of time to read and study to get an A. very difficult to do while working full-time. TA's were a little tough. An A is doable. Teacher is friendly and helpful.
Lots of reading and research papers 4 exams.
Lots of reading and research papers. 4 exams. Not an easy class.
I took Psych 304 online and I was not impressed with this class. 5 papers, 1 extra credit paper, 10 extra credit discussion boards (1 point each), 4 tests. The tests are timed. The test are difficult. Papers were not bad. Overall I am glad this class is coming to an end. I would recommend taking it in class versus online if you have the option.
4 test 80% , 5 writing assignments 20% total, 1 EC paper for 5 points and 10 discussion board questions for 10 points. Straight forward class just gotta do the work on time.
This course is based directly from the book. She also makes up great study guides and the study guide questions are all on the tests. 5 papers you have to write throughout the semester minimum two pages ( I promise it won't be just two pages) I enjoyed the course and material, and the topics for the papers were fun to write.
This class consists of 4 tests, 5 papers plus 10 discussion board posts and 1 extra paper for extra credit. The total points is only 500 so you have to be sure you do well on every test and paper. As long as you do the reading and the assignments on time, you should be fine. I ended with an 'A' but would have enjoyed the class more in person.
4 MC tests 80% total, 5 writing assignments 20% total, 10 DB posts for EC. You teach yourself from the book and PowerPoints. Paper grading is SLOW so you won't know your overall grade until late in the semester. Little communication with instructor but will respond to questions. Exam review provided - if you complete, you will make an A.
I took this online as one of my upper level gen ed's. As an engineering student, I found this course to be very easy. She was very clear about her expectations right from the get go. I thought it was one of the easiest classes I took at ODU. Highly recommended.
I took Social Psychology with Professor Younkin this fall semester. When I read her syllabus it came across that she was very tough however she's just very thorough. Her instructions are very clear. If you read the text and do the study guides you will past this class. Writing assignments were very interesting and were graded pretty quickly.
She's great. I always enjoy here online classes. She assigns papers and exams. She gives extra credit.
i would defiantly take her class again , she gives plenty of extra credit , it is very important to read the book or atleast skim through important terms really does bring things together when you are doing her study guide . The grading was fair find it impossible to fail unless didn't follow her requirements .
I loved this class. I actually read the textbook it was very interesting. If you really don't want to read then at least do the Study guide it helped me get an A on every test. As long as you follow guidelines on her assignments you'll get all the points. E.C is simple. One of my favorite classes to date and I'm a senior so I've taken quite a few
I took a Criminal Behavior class with her online and she was ok. She was not very accommodating for me and my problems but she did try. Her classes aren't super hard, you just need to read, do the papers and the posts. The papers are actually really interesting to write. However, she comes across as cold and uncaring and unwilling to help.
Took this as an online class and definitely RECOMMEND HER. Easy class. lots of extra credit opportunity. Responds to emails quickly. Couple tests and short essay assignments, that if you just do you will receive an A. Pay attention to the format thats the only things she truly takes off for.
I took this class online but had her as my advisor. She emphasizes heavily throughout the semester that she's reachable. There were 5 papers and an additional one for extra credit, along with discussion boards. Her syllabus is concise and it seemed as though all work was graded fairly. You definitely need to study to get a's in this course.
Took this class online and it is not easy. You have to read and listen to her lectures, videos, podcasts, and powerpoints if you want to pass. She does curve tests and gives study guides that outline the topics question for question for tests. BUT you have to spend time doing the work to find the answers. Would recommend taking her online.
Just 5 essays and 4 tests (none are cumulative). There is not much content in this class, no video lectures or anything. I payed money just to read a book to myself which was disappointing. Test reviews basically cover topics that you should be reading. It's an ok class but more content should be involved in it.
If you are looking for an easy class, this is not it. There is not much busy-work, but there is no feedback. 5 two page papers throughout the semester. Gives extra credit, but it isn't additional; rather it is built into the final grade. Took online, says you cannot use outside notes to help on exams, but impossible to pass if you don't. Beware.
Amazing professor!!! Her grading break down is very clear and she provides so much feedback on all your work. She genuinely cares about her students and is willing to help. I mixed up a few due dates and missed an exam, sent her email, and was more than happy to help me in any way she could. Definitely take her!
Tests are super difficult, closed notes. Guidelines are really unclear, all over the place. Power points do not help for understanding of concepts, just basically bullet points, the text really teaches you everything. Content for the course is interesting, but again, came mostly from text. I regret taking this course.
There is a lot of work. The good think is that the work is based on your perception after reading. 4 two page papers. 10 (optional discussion boards), Wordpress eblog with weekly requirements (sometimes two or three). All manageable right... But the tests are a beast. They are very detailed and closed notes. You MUST study. down to the names.
Tests are insanely difficult. Many questions on things never found in the text or powerpoints. Maybe she lectures in class in person on these, but as an online student you do not have access to any online lectures, just basic powerpoints. Very particular about format. One error and you get 25 points off.
I had Professor Younkin for PSYC 420 (cross cultural) and PSYC 304 (social). Both were online. There were discussions, papers & tests. Material for the assignments drew from the book & powerpoints. Professor Younkin was very helpful with anything I needed to email her about including Psi Chi and a letter of recommendation for grad school.
The class is easy to a degree. There's a lot of work and if you do it, you'll pass. My only issue with the professor was that her study guides and tests did not match. It was a bit shocking. Would not recommend online.
Overall average online class with valuable information, but don't expect an easy A. Syllabus is confusing and too many online locations to turn in required assignments (do some of the work on Word Press but submit a link to it on BB and hope you submitted the right link). Professor returns emails promptly but BB grades are slow to appear.
If you can't read the text in full do not expect to pass the tests. There is no need to review the powerpoint. Strong organizational skills and time management needed. Assignments in multiple places.
I really enjoyed her class. There is a lot of small work, but it is worth it in the end cause you get a fantastic understanding about Social Psychology. She is hilarious, and seems to genuinely care about her students. If you have the opportunity to take her in person, I wholeheartedly recommend it
She's funny and engaging. Stay on top of the homework assignments and you'll be fine. She offers a good amount of extra credit, and will work with you if you're having any problems. Would definitely take her again.
Mrs Jen is more then a professor. She is a mentor and counselor. She always wants the best for her students even if they are doing well in her class. this semester she was a big help . She is kind and understands real life scenarios. She is a professor I will continue to always talk to outside of classes. Thank you !
To pass this class, ORGANIZE when the essays, blogs and tests are due. There are small assignments - blogs (1-2 paragraphs due once a week + a visual). The papers (5) are rather short (2 pgs) and her assistants do not grade too hard - follow the format COMPLETELY. Do her reviews because they WILL help you get a good grade on the test (3 tests).
Disorganized online format. Shes creative and fun- in fact her class would be awesome if she could just organize it more intuitively online. I suspect shes great in person. As it stands there are assignments and resources tucked into weird places and the materials do not often match. She seems to care about students but YIKES!
Lots of small assignments. Some of them seemed pointless cause you have to do the assignment, then review it, then write about how writing the review helped you. That said the course content was interesting, and the professor made an effort to connect with students even online.
She's very clear on what's required for some of the coursework. Then there will be hidden assignments like archiving stuff that she isn't clear on at all. I still don't know what that means. Good luck figuring it out
This professor has been helpful on so many levels. She is associated with the LeADERS program and advises better than my adviser her class was very introspective in which you do a lot of work on yourself. I learned a lot in the class, but its also a lot of work!
I took this class online and I found most of it easy to follow. I had to set up an online portfolio and there were a lot of little assignments due each week. However, the professor sent out an e-mail outlining everything that was due on Sunday which made the class easy to follow. Just follow the directions and the class is really easy to pass.
This teacher was very fair, gave optional assignments. Tests are situation heavy, all multiple choice. I had a moral issue with one of her assignments, talked about it with her and she allowed me to change the topic while still doing the assignment. Very good teacher. Must read the book.
Schoolwork whiplash! My advice: Read the syllabus and plan your semester around the multiple deadlines per week and stay ahead of schedule. "Jeopardy" videos and homework will only help you pass at the minimum. If you want a 4.0 you need to read the book and master concepts on your own.
She was super kind, always willing to help her students. She was a great professor, I would take again
I dropped this class after two days. It has the most confusing layout I have ever seen. There is also a TA for the course.
The class material is interesting, but the professor presents it in a bad way. We are wasting time doing a wordpress site for our weekly assignments. 6 weeks in and we are still trying to figure it out. This class could be structured differently and improve 10 fold. Cool class/material. Bad delivery
She's a nice person but personally I don't like her lecture style. I like the jeopardy videos but we do it every class so it get repetitive. This professor focuses on WordPress (which is a great skill to learn!), but it can get tricky for some. If you like to teach yourself and want to learn how to make a website I'd recommend taking her :)
SHE IS SO AMAZING!!!! If you can take a class with her, do it! There is only a couple tests and she does jeopardy in class to help you review and prepare! Attendance isn't mandatory but she is so funny which makes you actually want to come to class. You create a website about yourself which was so fun, you have assignments on that due once a week!
She is such an amazing professor, very caring, and relatable. 5 assignment for the whole class which were pretty easy and clear. All classes we played Jeopardy on the material with class discussions based on the content. Class is very manageable, and the textbook was provided. She seems happy to teach the material and is very engaging.
I took her PSYC 308 (Positive PSYC) class. This professor has relatively easy tests, but has a lot of other assignments due every week. She has very clear grading criteria and is a pretty easy grader.
She is a very easy professor but don't expect to learn much as she doesn't actually teach. The textbook is where you will learn material, NOT in class. If you want an easy professor for an elective take her but if you actually want to learn don't bother.
Very easy grader, recommend if you are looking to breeze through an online course. However, she does not teach anything and solely relies on the textbook. She is also flaky with communication and when she does answer, does not seem to give good answers or even answer your question. Easy grader but does not seem on top of things in a timely manner.
Professor Muth is really sweet! I took her in-person Positive Psych class and have enjoyed it. Although, we don't really discuss what's in the textbook during class. She gives a few assignments each week, pretty simple to follow. Flexible with her students if they need extra help or time on assignments. Willing to help her students be successful.
I got to learn a lot about myself in this class which helped me become a better person, but if you want to get a good grade, you need to read your textbook and take the quizzes from it.
For an online class, it was super straight forward. Lecture video's, assignments, tests. Never thought the assignments were too difficult. You do talk a lot about yourself and past experiences within the assignments. Only a specific amount of assignments are graded so you have the ability to not do like 2of them. Class was fun and an easy A / B.
Caring and compassionate professor. Class was engaging and thought provoking but not overwhelming.
What I actually wanted to say was too long to post.Just take this as your warning and do your best to avoid this GPA-tanking professor.Ignore her lectures and content as they are unhelpful and a waste of time.Strictly study the textbook and research studies listed in the text if you must take one of her courses. To my fellow psych majors, good luck
One of the worst classes I have ever taken. Chapters are VERY heavy with info- she SHOULD provide lecture material to weed out unnecessary info, but PPTX slides are vague and need clarification with her videos. However, she doesn't always post videos which makes things even more confusing! Test questions are a trap and not covered in her lectures.
I found her teaching frustrating for this course. She did not go over the material much in class, so you had to teach yourself the material for tests. Furthermore, of all the work turned in, I only got one grade back during the semester, so I never knew what my grade was. Sweet professor, but frustrating teaching, do not recommend.
