Professor Neuwald is an amazing professor that tests primarily on information in lectures. Reviewing your notes is a guaranteed C in the class. Including the book guaranteed B. She is a super personable person who appreciates those with interest in the field of Biology. 10/10 would recommend you try to get into her class.
She is passionate about the material, and explains things well, but she goes through the material really fast. It can be difficult to keep up while taking notes, but she puts lecture slides up on Canvas, so that helps. Her tests can be pretty hard, some of the questions are worded confusingly, DO THE GROUP TESTS. Overall good professor.
I enjoyed her lectures mainly because of how passionate she is about the subject. It always made me so happy to see someone so attached to what they do. She is very willing to help any student and really wants you to learn. What helped me the most in this course was reviewing the slides she posts on canvas, reading the book, and USE CRASH COURSE.
She really made sure that the majority of the class understood the subjects, which is especially hard for a class of 250.
Dr. Neuwald taught the 1st half of the class. Her slides were very sporadic. She was very enthusiastic which helped for attention but she wasn't very good at explaining. Her analogies often times didn't relate to the average student age. She was surprised that we did bad on tests then would say, "I have 3 more min" and teach 5 more slides hastily.
Her lectures are great, so pay attention! She answers any questions you may have and definitely use her office hours because it helped me a lot when I went.
Neuwald was very passionate about the class which made the lectures and the class interesting.
Really extensive and easy to follow PowerPoints, super easy tests if you literally just study the slides. What she goes over in class is way harder and complicated than the questions on exams. Lively and interesting professor.
Professor Neuwald is an outstanding professor. She is very upfront and will not hesitate to speak her mind about the class and their performances. She does a great job helping the students learn overall concepts and key points that will make a reoccurrence in many bio courses. She also moves at a very ideal pace for entry-level bio students!
Dr. Neuwald has good lecture slides that are easy to understand. One of the things that I liked best was that she often gave analogies to help us better understand how things worked and remember them. The class wasn't super easy or super hard but if you take the extra time for the effort it is likely you will do good in her class.
This was one of the harder classes I've ever taken. Her slides had a lot of information on them and I had a hard time understanding what was going on in the class. We go through so many topics that it is detrimental that you don't miss a class.
Her slides contain a lot of information and it is very important for you to listen! It is a hard class and being there and present will help you a ton! She is very smart and knows what she is talking about, if you have questions you shouldn't be afraid to ask. It is important to go to class as clicker points add up.
Some people in my class seem annoyed by her quirkiness, but in my opinion its way better for a prof to be quirky than boring! She's a really good lecturer and you can tell she cares about everyones success. She also puts up study guides for each lecture so even if you miss a class, its easy to catch up. Highly recommend!
Comes up with creative visuals/analogies to make LIFE 102 interesting and easier to understand. However, be careful about going to her office hours-- the ones posted on Canvas were NOT accurate and she snapped at me/accused me of trying to break into her office (??) when I showed up. Kinda mean, but super smart and great at what she does
Dr. Neuwald is one of the best professors that you can get for the lower level biology courses. She has a good way of explaining and elaborating tricky subjects, prepares her slides extremely well, and best of all she is always available for office hours and will always help you out. If you attend all of her office hours YOU WILL get an A.
All the content was information I've learned from other science classes, so the content isn't very hard. Professor Neuwald herself is pretty funny and entertaining (though most students don't appreciate it), but her test questions are worded really tricky, so you have to be careful with wording. Very iClicker heavy.
BEST PROFESSOR EVER! If you get the chance, TAKE HER.
Dr. Neuwald uses iClickers for everything so you have to be there to get credit, they have a major effect on your grade. Study for the quizzes as they can help boost your grade or drop it significantly. She's really excited about everything. She doesn't say anything that's not in the notes so its easy to get the info even if you zone out.
If the class doesn't do well she blames the students for low averages, not our faults, she tests us on her lacking/undetailed lecture material . Her tests are not comprehensive, it all about small things and phrasing it differently on exams. A true definition of a weave out class, just know how she tests not on material but attention to detail.
Dr. Neuwald is awesome! She is clearly passionate about teaching this class and is easy to learn from because of her enthusiasm and awesome lectures. You HAVE to put in the work outside of class to get a good grade, but she is accessible outside of class if you need help.
Pretty easy class. Does a good job explaining topics. very lecture heavy. If u go to class you can study the day of for 3-4 hours. What I did was just made a quizlet w the slides, I got an A on 3/3 exams. Quizzes each Friday, have a week to do them. She is good at slowing down if the class needs it. 20 free points to ur grade @end of semester. nice
Dr. Neuwald is one of the smartest and caring professors Ive had. Shes so sweet and super accessible. Her lectures are so easy to understand and she does a really good job at explaining concepts. Ive had her as a professor twice and wish I could keep having her as one! Shes so good at teaching!!
powerpoints are set up different from material in text. great prof but the way she lectures is WAY too fast for following. ur better off printing the ppt slides & come to class doing notes that way but if u prefer to write all ur notes, do them b4 class to b able to follow. THERE ARE ICLICKERS so go to class, they will help your grade. tough class!
Shes a nice lady, but a HORRIBLE teacher. Her lectures are chaotic, she overcomplicates everything, and she tests for things that she doesnt teach. I would NOT recommend taking her class. You will learn almost everything on your own if you take this
I had Dr. Neuwald for both LIFE 102 and BZ 220. I am not sure why she had any bad reviews on here because she is super clear about the material you need for the exams and is super enthusiastic, making it easy to pay attention and comprehend the material. People tend to blame the professor for not doing well in classes, and Dr. Neuwald will help you
terrible and awful
If you miss a class her slides online are super clear to understand on your own, and she is super easy to meet with outside of class. She is willing to listen to and help with any problems you re having in her class, and unlike other Life 102 professors, she offers lots of homework, in class work and EC to help raise your grade significantly.
I had Dr. Neuwald for LIFE102 a number of years ago and it was great to have her again for BZ220. I think I speak for the class when I say she should teach the whole thing. Its a night and day difference between her and Dr. Simmons. Dr. Neuwald cares about her students and wants them to succeed. Her explanations were clear and sometimes funny.
Everyone who took life 102 with her knows she is scary and mean at times, but believe me when I say she is a totally different human for any other class! BZ 220 was amazing with her and she inspired me and made the class so interactive and fun! I personally think she hates teaching basic biology (I don't blame her)
Dr. Neuwald is a really great professor, she honestly gets way too much crap. I went into the class knowing basically nothing and left with an A. iClickers can make or break your grade. You need to put in work outside of class and her exams only cover stuff on her lecture slides. She tries really hard to make the class engaging and interesting.
Dr. Neuwald really tries to make her lectures fun and engaging. The class is relatively difficult, nothing too hard if you put the work in, but it's definitely one of those where you get as much as you give in terms of effort. She's very accessible out of class, and provides good feedback in office hours.
Jennifer is a great prof and really knows what she's talking about, but that also means that she will go into extreme detail that many other bio classes won't even cover. Tutoring with Knowledge Builders helps a lot and studying with friends got me through the class with a good grade.
Jennifer moves incredibly quickly in her lectures it can be difficult to take notes. She is an expert at biology and sometimes when answering a question you have, goes a bit overboard with explaining ( then you're lost). You'll definitely have to study, try to make friends with your tablemates it'll be better if you have buddies. My Lab sucked.
Dr Neuwald is probably the best professor I've had at CSU. She is so insanely smart and passionate about biology and teaching. She is extremely friendly and accommodating to students, she genuinely wants to see you succeed. Go to her office hours! I loved building a connection with her and I'm sad she doesn't teach more classes.
Dr. Neuwald is honestly one of the best professors I had. The class material isn't always easy but she makes sure you have all the resources you need to succeed. There are iclicker question so I wouldn't recommend skipping class too often. She is really quick to grade things and is willing to work with anyone that has questions.
Dr. Neuwalds class online was not the best. I dont know whats she like when its in person lecture, but I did not like the way she set up the online format. She is very nice and super passionate about what she teaches. Zoom was once a week, with quiz on Monday (from video lectures from weekend), and exam on Friday (same material from Monday).
The online class was mediocre at best. I had a strong foundation in bio before taking this class and that is the only thing that kept me from failing. A lot of the questions on the Friday quizzes are not covered by the material in lectures or in the synchronous zoom classes.
To be transparent, I do not like biology at all. However, Dr. Neuwald was so passionate in her lectures that it made it much more bearable for me. This class requires you to put in the work, but if you watch ALL of her lectures and take GOOD notes, you should get a good grade. She dropped many grades to account for stress/difficulties from COVID.
Dr. Neuwald taught the first part of BZ for my semester and is very passionate about what she teaches. She is very willing to help as well as her TAs. Her lectures were very clear and her tests were fair and went with lectures. Dont buy the book, never used it. My grade tanked in the second part of the semester because the other professor was bad.
Dr. Neuwald is an excellent professor. She is very understanding. She explains things so well in her lectures; everything finally made sense. She does weekly Friday exams and weekly Monday quizzes, as well as iclicker questions in class, but if you watch the lecture videos, ask questions, and take good notes you will pass with an A+.
Dr. Neuwald was a really great prof to have during the COVID-19 pandemic. Her lectures were always ready and perfect at the start of the week and you could watch them and take notes on them on your own time. You should take notes for all the quizzes but overall they were not bad. She did not give a final either because of the pandemic. Great prof
Professor Neuwald is an amazing professor who really cares about her students. When the class bombed our second midterm instead of blaming us she went through the test for a whole week trying to figure out what went wrong and need up giving us extra credit! Her lectures go by so fast because she makes if very entertaining. TAKE HER CLASS!!!
Jennifer neuwald is seriously the best bio teacher you can get at CSU. Her lectures are thought out, her iClickers are easy and you can even take them from home cause she allows that, and she actually cares what the class gets on tests. Tests can be pretty difficult but as long as you study and put effort in, youll pass.
Jennifer is a cool person. She cares about her students and even though the material is challenging, she has really amazing slides (she posts and they're easy to follow), and the way she explains things makes sense. There are 4 tests, but the lowest grade gets dropped. She takes test questions from iClickers. Lab grade is 25% which helps always!
Dr. Neuwald is the sweetest! She knows her stuff, loves to teach it, and wants you to understand it, too. Although it is important to study, attend class, ask questions and do what you probably should do as a student here, Neuwald gives you plenty of resources to succeed. All-around great professor with good material, silly humor, and a kind heart.
Jennifer is one of the best professors I've had at CSU. Her lectures are amazing, she keeps students engaged, and makes it easy to understand the difficult material. She is very caring and if you have a problem she'll figure out a way to help you. If you go to office hours she goes in-depth to help you understand. She made me interested in evo!
I really did enjoy Neuwald's class, she is very sweet and you can tell she is very passionate about what she does. You do have to work for your grade though because she is more detail-oriented than most professors. She is definitely a solid choice when it comes to choosing a Life 102 section.
Class started off rough, but once I got the hang of the kind of grader she was I coasted. She truly cares for students and wants them to succeed. However she is not looking to give handouts, you will really have to study a lot to do well.
Professor Neuwald is very invested in biology. She cares about the students and will do everything to help you succeed. She is very clear about what will be tested and is very well spoken which make her lecture easy to understand. Great Professor, just make sure to go to class if you want an A. She has a lot of I clickers but they really help you.
Kind and willing to explain the same concept in different ways for different learners.
Really good at lecturing
Professor Neuwald was one of the best professor I've had. She is very intelligent, and explains complex topics very well. Although the class is a lot of information to retain, she makes sure her students are understanding the concepts and the overall picture.
I was in the Honors section, so it may be a little different, but Dr. Neuwald is one of the best professors I've had. She is very understanding and great at explaining difficult concepts. There are two midterms and a final exam, as well as a final paper and speech (which are spaced out well; I know it sounds like a lot but it's really not).
Professor Neuwald was one of the best professors I've had at CSU so far. Her lectures are so interesting and engaging. SHe always explains concepts in a way we as students can understand them. I would suggest trying not to miss class though. The content from the lectures is referred to directly in the quizzes and exams. Amazing!
Amazing professor!! Her slides were always well put together and made sense. The lectures themselves were engaging enough to make it though the whole class. Super helpful during office hours!!
Dr. Neuwald is a very engaging and wonderful professor who is passionate in what she does. She makes lectures go by quickly with easy to follow slides, fun analogies, and spontaneous participation (like doing the wave mid-class). She and her team of LA's are attentive and helpful; wanting you to pass the class.
She is very easy going and makes the class very fun
We LOVE Dr. Neuwald. She makes tricky content fun and understandable. She makes class enjoyable, and points are fair and reasonable. I would surely recommend her to anyone.
Love her lectures, everything is extremally easy to understand, and she is very passionate about her teaching.
Neuwald is really nice! BZ220 is super easy if you just attend lectures half awake and answer the clicker questions.
Fairly difficult tests every 2 weeks. Material is challenging if you don't have much bio experience. Nice professor.
I adored Dr. Neuwald's class! Easily my favorite class of that semester. She's clearly passionate about what she teaches, and her lectures are easy-to-follow and attention-holding. She often interjects fun stories and student participation into lectures, which makes them all the better! I would love to take another class with her in the future.
Neuwald is great but her class is very lecture heavy so if you don't go to class you're not gonna do well on the quizzes
The lectures are SUPER in depth and sometimes hard to understand if you don't have prior knowledge in biology, but I think she does a great job at explaining! The exams are every two weeks but also online and open note which makes them a little more manageable. And, you get full credit just for doing the homework! Love Neuwald, she slays.
She has amazing lectures, they are so fun and she gave out candy for people that would answer questions.
Super cool proffesor. She does a lot to make sure that the material she teaches is understood and you can tell that she loves teaching it. Never really struggled with workload. Lectures are important to attend but she does a lot to make sure her material is accessable outside of class.
Dr. Neuwald is great. Her tests are given online at home, and gives us a lot of opportunities to do well. She is so funny and gave us candy in class. One of the best LIFE 102 professors! 10/10 recommend her for this course.
Very nice and easy teacher, made lectures engaging, biweekly exams were open note and online, nothing on the exams weren't covered in the lectures, also gives out tons of candy in class for those who participate.
She is passionate in her teachings, and makes biology very easy to understand. I am brand new to bio, and her lectures were the only thing that helped me succeed in her class! I brought all of my other friends in LIFE 102 to her lectures, and they continued coming back even though they all had different professors. We LOVE her!
She is very passionate about what she teaches which in turn made her lectures very interesting and easy to understand. She really cared about helping students understand and succeed in her class. The tests are open book so the grading was relatively easy as well. Go to class and you'll do great on all her tests.
Professor Neuwald is awesome, her lectures are very engaging she is funny and I learned a lot from her class. There is a weekly homework assignment and biweekly tests. Going to the lectures is the best way to pass this class.
Dr. Neuwald slayed. I miss her everyday. She made LIFE 102 so fun and easy. The was the class was set up was very awesome and easy. There were online "exams" every 2 weeks, that were 20 questions each. She also used iClicker during lectures and it made learning so much easier:) Highly recommend having her if you can!!!
Love Jennifer Neuwald, She makes lectures interesting and talks so passionately.
Such a good and engaging professor and is so knowledgeable about what she is teaching. She also really cares about her students which is evident. Really helpful office hours as well.
She is a super great professor and is always accommodating to students' needs. This was an interesting class. DO NOT BUY THE TEXTBOOK THO
Dr. Neuwald was definitely passionate about what she was teaching. I took the honors version of bz220 which was heavy participation, had to watch lots of echo videos as "pre class prep". Tests are online and pretty easy. Sometimes she planned poorly, and you had to watch lectures on your own time. But Overall, pretty easy and just show up.
Jennifer Neuwald is my favorite professor I've had at CSU so far! She does such an amazing job of approaching her class material to make it accessible for different kinds of learners and even her lectures were incredibly engaging and made me feel like I was part of the discussion. She's the best!
One time I asked her a clarifying question and she told me that if "I didn't appear bored in class that I wouldn't be confused." I told her I wasn't bored, just genuinely confused, and her response was, "well I'm bored teaching it." Never asked a question again. In general just super unapproachble and passive aggressive. Interesting content though.
Dr. Neuwald is one of my favorite professors I've had, she is knowledgeable and insightful, yet still humble enough to say "I don't know". Her exams are fair and she gives extra credit at the end of the semester. If you put in the work in her class she will repay it back 10x.
Dr. Neuwald is great at teaching and cares about the success of her students. She talks fast, but I was able to understand because she conveys the material well. I would personally recommend rewatching her lectures later if you didn't catch everything. It's also cute that she gives stickers and candy to students who participate. Would recommend!
I had the honor section of 220 (small class, so more participation). I had stuff going on in my personal life at the time (which she knew) so I wasn't always super engaged in class. She seemed to take this personally. "Pre-class prep" was never posted as an assignment despite being the majority of the grade (hard to remember to do).Boring lectures.
I loved Professor Neuwald, her lectures were very straight forward and easy to understand, and she related the material to things we already knew in a fun way. She allows notecards for her exams which is super helpful. Her teaching partner Dr. Shavlik was amazing as well, his lecture slides were very simple and he explained everything thoroughly.
Dr. Neuwald is very passionate about her topics of ecology and evolution. Her lectures and subjects are easy to understand and her tests are heavy conceptual rather than memorization. I would take this professor again if I could simply because she was such a positive person and really cares about her students.
Lectures were engaging and she is very passionate. I found this course easy because I took BZ110 + BZ120, which covered most of the information that was in this course. We had to attend two discussion groups outside of lecture in our own time, and these counted toward our grade. Just a heads up since I didn't know this until after the first day.
Dr. Neuwald is a great professor with a good understanding of metacognitive learning. Lectures are oriented toward case-studies and research in evolution, which makes the content more applicable into real-world applications. Note: The content in BZ220 HIGHLY overlaps with content in LIFE102 and LIFE103.
She genuinely seemed to enjoy what she was teaching, and was always excited about Biology. The class was kind of hard but I would 100% take it again
Dont take her class. She speeds through lectures this class is the hardest class I have every taken in my life. The tests are hard this whole thing is hard. She is so stern too like. DONT TAKE. The material is legit not even over bio,
Lots of extra credit
Neuwald is a very caring and kind professor. She is clearly super passionate about the subject and cares about helping students succeed. Class material can be tough but her office hours are really helpful (she keeps snacks in her office for students too!)
For the love of everything holy, if you cant keep up with light speed lectures, She's not for you. Her heart is in the right place but she moves at Mach1. Also super test heavy with almost daily homework with not enough points to boost your grade, just enough to tank it. Difficult curriculum but she is relatively accessible. overall pass personally
Fairly good professor. Knows her stuff and is good at teaching it. Talks a lot and is sometimes hard to follow. Lots of extra credit for Life102 though
