Very Good Teacher.
You will never get an "A" on that class, even if you do your best the most yo can get is a "B"...
Great teacher. Make you learn.
shes an excellent teacher..very organized..but very hard on grades..i got my first B =(
for anyone who said she doesnt give A's i dont know where you are living but i got an A in her class. yeah she grades hard but she teaches you alot so she expects you to know it. its better than some teachers who grade hard without teaching the stuff. she is the best teacher.
Never gives an "A." I was .25 away from a "B" and she did not let me do any extra credit or anything to bring it up. She told me "What you got is what you earned"
This teacher is very hard, grades very hard,& she thinks she is teaching students in Harvard University.
I thought she was great. I learned a lot and I understood the work.
She is a very difficult teacher who is not sympathetic and too strict. She takes the class more serious than she should for an ENC1101 class.
Is she strict and grades hard, but does know how to teach. Just need to pay attention in class and do all the work.
she is a person who expects no less than the best out of you. she is also very picky, and has cleared up the rumor that she does not give A's, she does its just hard as hell to get them. her catch phrase: "you get what you worked for"
She went over all of my papers with me and told me how i should improve. She is very good at letting you know your progress. And you will walk out of her class knowing your grammar! I got a B. and you better believe I earned it. Too bad she wasn't teaching 1102, when i wanted her.VERY GOOD TEACHER. She put my High School Teachers to shame!
The class appears to be harder than I thought it would be. She seems like a nice lady but apparently she takes her work too seriously.
She's ok. Helps you to pass class.
she is the most relaxed prof. i have...i really enjoy her class because she is very direct and helpful
pain in the rear, i strongly suggest you dont get her if you take yoru grades hard because she is a very tough grader
SHE IS VERY HARD WHEN IT COMES TO GRADING, SHE EXPECTS US TO UNDERSTAND EVERY SINGLE THING...I WONT LIE, SHE REALLY PUTS EFFORT IN TEACHING THE SUBJECT, BUT SHE'S NOT LENIENT!!! I PASSED HER CLASS BY A THREAD
I am one of those people who got one of those very hard to get A's, she just expects alot out of you, but she teaches it to you, so thats why she expects it, if you are having trouble in her class, she recommends you to take the enc 1059??? class its like a 6 week class, but they help you learn to right an essay or wtvr u have problems with.
Shes grades hard....
This professor is THE WORST PROFESSOR TO TAKE she will tell you that you are not passing her class with a grin up her face her assignments are clear but she demands so much from you any little mistake you make causes you so much points it is extremly hard to pass her class RUN FOR YOUR LIVES
No Comments
This teacher is crazy! She is very strict and treats you like you are 5! She is VERY perticular.......does not give A's!! Just keep up and stay out of her way!
this prof. is very strict don't get me wrong she knows her stuff and comes to class prepared but i don not recommend any one to take this class she doesn't give anything higher than an D, the work she gives is clear but she grades very hard and she deducts points for every simple mistake. DO NOT I REPEAT DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS.
super sacarstic. very picky and if your not willing to hear her crap then dont take her class. if u suck at english DROP HER! i got a B though but others werent lucky =]
She is a hard, difficult professor. She explains everything clearly, but grades assignments,MY GOD, UNBELIEVABLY hard. All I got in her essays were D&D+,she made me feel that I actually suck at writing & in grammar too. Believe me,I am getting B &higher in my ENC1102 with another prof., so I don't suck. I passed her class with B bcz of the grammar te
OMFG this lady thinks we should know every single rule in the english language. DON'T take her class. She likes to give you Ds and Ds+ with a big smile @!#@#.
she's crazy! no matter how hard I tried to re-write my corrected essays, sh'ed still give me only a B-. She thinks everyone knows every single freakin' rule on the english language.
Niles was kind of strict, but she was my first real college teacher. At first, I was failing in her class for missing one major assignment. Later on, she gave me a chance to do some extra credit so I took every chance I could to raise up my grade. I passed her class barely with a C and I would definitely take her again for ENC 1102.
Honestly, if you get to kno her, u will see that she IS a very nice person, But she expecation is VERY HIGH. i past her class with a C, THANK GOD! I know that all her past students would agree that when u leave her class, u will still remember alot of the things she taught you.
RUN... DO NOT TAKE HER .... I DON'T KNOW YOU... BUT I WOULDNT WISH THIS PROF ON MY ENEMIES. let me break it down for u, i wasn't born in the US and i know that im not good at assays (im a "c")i dont want the dam "a" all i want to do is pass... but students that were born here and that are good in English get d's so what chance does that leave me ?
She grades very hard. She knows what she is teaching. Even though I got a "D" in her class, I learned many things from this professor. If you are a student that is willing to put time into doing your work and not wasting it, her class should not be so hard. But she is a VERY HARD GRADER. Aswell as a good professor.
RUN!!! SHES HORRIBLE DONT EVEN CONSIDER HER! SHE EXPECTS YOU TO BE ON HER LEVEL ALL THE TIME, MIND YOU WE'RE JUST STUDENTS. SHE GIVES OUT A LOT OF WORK AND HALF THE TIME THE WHOLE CLASS IS FAILING. RUN!
she is a very good teacher....she makes you aware of the mistakes you make when writing a paper...she is a harsh grader but it is only that way cause she wants you to work harder and do better....if u really want to learn and do better take her...if your looking for an easy A and zero to no work....wrong class for you!!
she will call you out in class if your not taking notes and if you fall asleep.. i personally did'nt like her, b/c she had a way of making any question i asked sound stupid...the weird thing about being in her class was that so many people dropped within a two week period, when i took it in the summer... she's hard so take notes and ask questions.
Don't take her. the WORST&HORRIBLE prof. ever. She explains everything good, but grades essays thinking her students are english masters who are supposed to know every tiny little thing about grammar.Gave me Cs & Ds on essays but passed her class with B bcz of the grammar tests. I passes ENC1102 with A, with another professor. One word: AVOID!!
PLEASE PLEASE AVOID taking profesor niles as a teacher... sheis nice.. but grades really hard and ridiculous.. Just AVOID her
Success is NOT an option with this professor!!! She does not want students to pass the class. I wish I knew about her before I worked hard at trying to pass. Everyone in my class was struggling to pass, but we all were graded poorly. In conclusion, you will learn, but you will not succeed.
Miss Niles helps students progress and she is very helpfull.
Please the only thing i want to say is that if u are willing to get the black spot in your degree audit take her class. she is very sarcastic and expects that students know everything as if they have a masters degree in the subject. about essays, forget about it you will never get an A or B. i dont recommend her she is not an easy teacher.
she's alright but does not seem to understand that not everybody has or starts off college with the knowledge that she expects every1 2
I can't stand her. She makes things clear but is extremely obnoxious and sarcastic. I do not reccommend her class at all.
Her class was not easy.. She used to give me B- on all my essays.. I'm an A student in English so I really stepped my game up in the following couple of weeks and although she put tons of marks on my esays she gave me an A at the end.. so u see it IS possible to get an A in her class... HARD WORK equals succes.. ie VERY hard work
As long as you take good notes you should be fine. The only thing that is a bit irksome is that no matter what grade you get on the Grammar tests or handouts your final grade is whatever you got on her essays.
if you know what's good for you, don't think about taking this professor.she is very harh,i don't why she is still teaching at mdc.
She is not a good teacher, she takes everything personal, her grade is unfairly. She never give A and Bs,her highest grade is C.she has a bad attitude toward students.Don't take her, believe me.I work so hard in her class, she still failed me, only three students passed out of the whole class
The meanest teacher I have ever come across in my entire life. Absolutely no idea what she is doing. She grades INCORRECTLY. She makes me people hate the english language. She is also picks people out to target and belittles them. She flat out told me she disliked me. i never missed a class or an assignment and i barely got C!!
These remarks speak for themselves. If you want to lower your GPA, then this is the class to take. Trust me, you'll work hard for an unjust grade. If you work this hard at your other classes, chances are that you will make the dean's list but ENC1101 with Niles, guarantees you wont! Though she's not bad 2 look at, she's not worth the poor grade.
Very picky about how to write essays.Grades unfairly. If you want to pass don't take her.
I have to say that I disagree with all of the comments posted about this professor. I took her and I passed with a B. It's not easy because she corrects all the grammer errors, but it is not impossible to pass. Professor Niles always has office hours, and she will always explain to you what you are doing wrong if you go to her office. She really do
The only way you will excel in her class is through hard work so if you're looking for an easy A don't bother. She explains everything fairly clearly and tries to teach at a pace that the whole class can follow. She makes herself copiously available to her students. The grading on the essays is HARSH but will make you a better writer in the end.
She's extremely helpul and understanding.
Niles was my very first professor in college. I would have to say that I really enjoyed her class. If you like a challenge and you would like to see your reading comprehension and writing skills improve, take her class! She is VERRYYYY willing to help you out and has no problem with you contacting her out of class. Attendance is crucial!!
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO PEOPLE PLZZZZZZZZZZZ RUNNNN AWAYYYYYYY FROM HERRR THIS TEACHER WILL MAKE U HATE ENGLISH AJAJAJAJA I HAD TO TAKE THE CLASTTTTT BCZ OF HERRRRRRR. AND THIS CLASS LOWERED MY GPA. PLZZZ TAKE MY ADVICE: DO NOT TAKE HER
horrible professor!! grades unfairly
Plese dont take her class. I'm warning you this is no joke. run far away rom her keep her off of your schedule.
This class was fairly diffcult. i dont recommend the early classes she isn't okay with tardiness or absenses. She grades essays pretty diffcultly. i got almost all 85-90 on the quizzes and still only got a c
She is a great professor. i did leran in her class. she is very helpful and encourage students to come to her office hours. she is very willing to help. come on guys this is college and an english class. if you really want to improve your writing take her. she does grade fair. she is passionate and want students to improve.
Awesome professor. she helps every student improve their writing skills. she even recommends you to many things throughout the course so you can boost your writing skills. she does give extra-credit opportunities so don't let that down. just come prepared to class & participate
Very hard professor, don't take her. She expects you to write like she does. She gives too many assignments and grades them very low. She tries to be too proffesional.
If you really want to learn English, take Niles. She is the best English instructor I have ever had. Her class is divided into grammar and writing. There are 4 to 5 timed writings worth 45%, a lot of grammar assignments worth 20%, writing revisions worth 15%, and a mini research paper worth 20%. Take Niles if you really want to learn!
DNT GET ME WRONG SHE IS A GREAT TEACHER.JUST VERY UP THIGHT NEED TO LOOSEN UP A LITTLE BIT. CLASS CAN BE BORING AT TIMES. IF U ARE NOT FOR REAL ABOUT SCHOOL DNT TAKE HER BECAUSE YOU WILL AND I DO MEAN "WILL" FAIL HER CLASS..I GOT A "D"!!
dont take if u want an easy grade
Professor Niles is extremely helpful she is willing to clarify any uncertainties one may have. However, her class is not easy. You must put forth maximum effort in her class, otherwise you will suffer.
she very good and helpful
Shes really cool and helpful. you need to have good listening skills for this class. She will teach u awesome things if u wanna improve ur writing. my writing improved greatly after this class.
She's an awesome teacher. She will help you with your writing skills. Her class in challenging but she does not want you to fail.
Avoid this professor. There are so many other kind, concerned, helpful and caring teachers to select from. No need to put up with sarcasm and self-righteous attitude.
Stay away from this professor. I got an A in her class because i learned the material on my own. She does not teach well, is very arrogant, and will not hesitate to give you a failing grade. Also, you will spend a lot of money on books for her class. All in all, if you are taking other classes, chances are you will fail. Worse teacher i have had.
She is an awesome professor, Enjoys what she does and expects her students to know the basics. I appreciate the effort she put into the class and was glad to be back in a real English course. Her class is not for slackers. Ambitious and focused; you're good to go. I passed her class with a B w/o doing a major project b/c I was willing to do work.
She's not a HORRIBLE teacher, but she is NOT A GOOD ONE either. I found that her style of teaching makes things more difficult than they really are. I am EXCELLING in my ENC1102 class and I am very good in english, but with her even after all my hard work I still ended up with a (B). trust me pick another ENC1101 teacher !
Beware and stay away from this professor. I'm not going to go into detail but DO head my warning!!!
I just finished her class over the summer, her class is kind of hard but you will learn a lot. When she grade the essay, she will look for every little mistake, is a strict professor.
Where to begin. I took Niles in the fall of 09 and was quite excited for the class since she was an honors college professor. To my dismay, I realized the class I was in. In short, the material was reminiscent of my middle school English class-Basic Grammar coupled with an elementary writing style. And on top of it all, she is simply pretentious!
In her class now, she seems to spell out what she expects from you. She treats each student like an an adult and holds th accountable. I'll review again at the end of the semester, but so far, thumbs up.
You will learn a lot in this class. she gives alot of hw. but in overall she's a good teacher. if you dont plan on concentrating and giving it your best i do not recommend this class to you. you will have to work , and not slack off
Ms. Miles is a tough grader, but this is college. You have to work hard for your grade. There is more reward in earning an A than in receiving an A. She is very structured, and easy to learn from. She takes interest in her class, and obviously loves teaching. If you want to earn earn your grades and stay ahead in life because you work hard for rewards, take Ms. Niles class. If you want a handout grade and wonder why you're not succeeding in life, take another class.
WARNING...DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!!!!!
english is suppose to be a course where you enjoy learing and writing. tHIS IS ONE OF THOSE PROFESSORS WHO DONT BRING JOY TO TIS SUBJECT. INSTEAD OF FOCUSING ON THE OVERALL TONE AND QUALITY OF YOUR WRITING SHE RATHER FOCUS ON PUNCTUATION MARKS!!!!!!!! AND ETC. I DO NOT RECCOMEND HER CLASS AT ALL....
Ms. Niles Is very Strict about her work. She sucks the fun out of English Completely.
Do not take this teacher she will suck the fun out of everything. Your Stress level Will reach its peak quickly
I earned an A in Miss Niles class. Excellent professor if you want to learn what you're actually in class to learn. If you're looking to skate and get an easy grade, this isn't the professor for you.
Ms. Niles is really true to her students. A bit strict with punctuatuion but thats what writing is all about. People who say that her class is hard are dumb. It was pretty easy. Her class consist of 5 essays 4 OPEN BOOK grammar exams. She allows you to brain storm at home before doing the essay in class. How great is that. if she did enc1102 ill tak
Really hard to please her.... she looks nice and you may think you will pass but you have to be a Goddess on writing to pass her
This is the hardest class i have ever taken. I thought i was a good writer but apparently I was wrong. She is a VERY strict grader, can be rude at times and will make ENC1101 harder than it needs to be. Please find another teacher. I was fortunate to pass with a C but trust me I had to work hard for it !
Ms.Niles is the best prof. ever. She is a bit strict with punctuation but it made me work to my fullest.I'd pass the class with a B. Many students expect profs. to give them easy A's but this is college not high school. In order to get a good grade you must be a creative writer. Remember the sky is the limit. she is great I wish she did enc 1102
She's a very good professor. She doesn't give you any surprises and is very upfront. She is willing to help with any questions or problems with the course. She is a fair professor, if you don't do the work then you won't pass. I highly recommend her.
You learn in the class but you stuggle along the way. She makes you work for your grade.
She is awesome. If you're looking for an easy A do not take her but if you truly want to learn, she is the person to go to. I started her class with a D and finished with a B. And I've learned a lot! So take her if you want to learn.
SHE IS HARD!! SHE GRADES EVERYTHING HARD!! SHE CREATES AN INTIMIDATING ENVIRONMENT & DOESNT GIVE EXTRA CREDIT....EVERRRR! I REGRET CHOOSING HER. SHE LOVES TO LECTURE AND MAKES IT MANDATORY TO WRITE NOTES FOR THE WHOLE 50 MINS. RUNNNN!!!
This has to be the hardest English class I have ever taken. This also happens to be the ONLY English course, which has increased my knowledge in the subject. If you want an easy A do not take her. If you are looking to increase your GPA DO NOT TAKE HER. THIS CLASS IS HARD! However, if you have to take her(like I did) YOU WILL LEARN!
If you do not meet her expectations, be prepared to be disappointed with your grade. She is a very tough grader, she sets very high standards. My best advice is for you to walk away as fast as you can!
She's not as bad as people say on here. I went into her class and worked really hard and I even got C's on my essays but then she lets you do it over with her corrections and turn it in again to replace your grade. She's a really helpful and good professor. I actually ended up getting an A. If you're taking her, don't worry! Just work hard!
She's wonderful! I had her for Honors and she made sure we worked at a pace that suited us and allowed us to learn. She constantly reviewed topics that we weren't doing well on. She's straightforward and overall very sweet. She gives plenty of extra credit toward the end of the semester. Always available for office hours. Easy A if you're focused.
This class was tough and she would never give me any higher than a "D" on any of my essays, mind you I got an "A" in Enc1102 with another teacher. I passed her class with a "C". She isn't a bad teacher I do recommend her if you want to improve your writing but not an easy "A" at all. Other than that she will teach you a lot ! (:
she is the hardest english teacher i have had in my entire school life. she is a wonderful teacher she explains everything very well. but grading papers such as essays or anything she is extremely hard. she likes to grade students on how she personally would do the work/essays.she grades essays extremely hard! i do not recommend!!
Prof. Niles is an amazingly caring teacher! She is extremely knowledgeable and takes the time grading to actually TEACH you! In addition, she lingers after class to be available to students. Yes, her grading is not the easiest; however, her intensions are for your success! Lastly, she offers EXCR @ the end of the term. I recommend her! She's great!
She is an amazing professor but a really harsh grader she knows what she is doing and her expectations for students are high. If you want to learn I recommend her but it's not an easy A. She is very helpful and kind but you need to study a lot
don't go by my comment because she wasn't there for two months because of surgery, but my experience with her wasn't good i received a C in that class
Prof Niles is a hard grader when it comes to essay. She grades the essays according to way she will write the essay. I do not recommend her.
Shes a hard grader. She would find anything to take points off but she notifies you all the time about your progress in her class. I don't recommend her if your not dedicated, I guess I wasn't because I got a C.
Prof. Niles is very kind and helpful, but when it comes to checking assignments she is really strict.
Niles is a wonderful teacher who really knows her stuff. She is a hard grader, especially on her essays. It's REALLY hard to get an A in her class;however, not impossible if you really do try, study for the tests and do the essay rewrites. This class is definitely not an "easy A", but if you want to learn something, TAKE HER.
Very dedicated teacher, you will learn a lot. Dont slack off and be lazy, sudy for her quizzes and tests. She's lenient and very helpful, dedicated and wants the best for her students. She does grade strictly and her essays are the hardest to get good grades on. Great teacher, learnt soo much. Highly recommended.
Very nice and dedicated. Wants the best for her students. Test are extremely easy IF you pay attention and is lenient with the essay grades. Received a B & that's that i was lazy.
She is a good professor. she gets a bad rep for her strict grading but she really pushes grammar lessons which is a plus. She does use the book so be sure to buy it. In the beginning she may recommend you to an extra grammar course. Take it if you arent good in english. also she allows you to turn in a 2nd draft of your essays for a better grade
She is an ok teacher, but I can honestly say that I learned inn her class. Very strict on her Essays but does gives a second chance to correct your mistakes. Teaches her lessons throughly and communicate well with her students. She really makes her students work for the grades they receives.
Very very hard grader. Do not take her if you want a high grade, as a foreigner who speaks English as a second language, she made me trough hell. No mercy at all. And she's kinda forcing you to take notes, which is like 3 pages every class. She does give you changes to make up the grade though. She's very strict. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS.
this teacher has no interest towards the students, she just want to do her job and get out of there. She did teach but had the worst attitude I have had from any teacher ever. Her test are fine cause they are multiple choice but her essays are harshly graded. If you want to o through hell take her class.
The HARDEST prof I have ever had to deal with so far. English is not my first language, so I make small mistakes on my paper, and gosh! She pointed out every tiny mistakes out of my paper. Extremely strict when grading papers. Do not take her class if English is not your first language and your grammar is not extremely good.
I decided to take her class even i had read everything about her being a tough grader and all and i have to agree.Do not take her class unless your writting is perfect. Her grading is super hard. Her essays are not graded on how good you write but how you use your sentences. I hated just about everything in her class.
Horrible profs! I have never seen any profs like her. She grades extremely hard, take points off for any chance, force you to take notes. Stay away from her If you are not borned and raised in USA, and english is your second language, you will receive a bad grade, no matter hard you try.
This professor was completely horrible , has no interest in her students. Just a front, you'll think she's nice in the beginning but no matter how hard you try in the class she'll always be judgemental. She doesn't take any excuses whatsoever, even if its an emergency she'll tell you im not giving you permission but if you go you'll get an absent.
She is a very nice teacher, and i learned a lot from her class. However, she grades the essays really hard and her test are extremely easy and English is my second language. you will learned from her class she is a very nice professor. you will learn but she grades essays really hard just do what she said because she will go over all the process.
Take good notes and you should be alright. She's kind of a tough grader and she can be a real stickler for attendance.
Amazing professor. Very strict. Not only did I learn a lot of the material in her class, but she also taught me discipline. To sum it up, if your lazy and dont care much about your grade, you will fail. If you stay focused and do your work, you'll pass. She takes her time grading your papers. But she gives you genuine feedback. Pay close attention.
The last thing on her mind is your success, her world is perfect, so there for, every body should come to meet with her perfection high standards, even her own boss. she is very rude to both student and heads of her department. Very few students ever pass her class, unless tutored by the tutor of her choice...
If you are not ready for hard work, stay clear else you would be made to work for your grade. she is really kind if you ask her for help or extra material.
shes a great teacher, but if your lazy don't take her class, she gives lots of h.w, lots of reading and group assignments. shes very picky even when you talk to her.
Her class is not that hard; however, it's essential you pay attention. If you have questions, she's more than happy to answer them. She gives many assignments which is a good thing because they help you make up whatever you failed. Her tests are somewhat difficult, you have to definitely study unless you want to settle for a C-.
She is very strict and can be mean at times. She does teach very well and I personally as well as many of the students in my class learned a lot. She is easy to understand. She is an extremely tough grader. She gave us 4 essays to complete during the term a no one got higher than a B-. only one student in the class out of 25 passed with an A.
She does not accept late assignments and is strict about deadlines. She gives a lot of homework and takes forever to grade them. She grades the essays super hard and gives at least four per semester. Her lectures are super long and she is repetitive.
Professor Niles is a phenomenal teacher. A lot of people give her a bad rep because they don't like an extra push. The grammar test she gives are very easy; the test are open book. The group projects are fairly simple and homework. The BEDFORD HANDBOOK is your best friend! The essay are weighted HEAVILY, so talk to her. Fail the essay,FAILTHECLASS!
Professor Niles is a very rude person. She comes off with a nasty sarcastic tone that will make you feel uncomfortable. She takes a long time to grade asignments and when you think you did a great job think again! you failed. She grades her essays very hard so you better get it proof read by an expert before turning it in. Worst class ever.
Horrible easy way to get an F DO NOT GET HER !!!!!!!!!!!! Turn in an essay and you will get it back all red even if you are a good writer. DONT GET HER !!! Stay away from this professor
Tough grader. Her grading standards are perfection or fail.
Professor NIles is a really good teacher and presents every subject as clear as possible. The only thing that is important in class are the essays she gives. They are worth A Lot of your overall grade and she will find every grammatical error possible. Regardless, the class will be challenging and you will have to work for a good grade
Jennifer Niles is a well instructed English professor but she is not a teacher. When you ask questions, she doesn't seem to understand how you didn't grasp her lecture. She speaks eloquently and knows her stuff, but the atmosphere is not conducive to learning. I at least wished she had been more helpful and understanding, after all I am a novice!!!
This lady is one word: TOUGH. She's serious about her grammar. Next to working out and complaining about her life, how much sleep she doesn't get, or whatever she goes on about, she's all about GRAMMAR. So please, if you take her, make sure you STUDY and go to the Enc-Lab every chance you get. May God be with you.
Bored class of all the time. You has to be there ON TIME. She is hard with essay grade. Forever to finish the grade. That class will make you so sleepy. Take coffee go with you if you decided to take that class. She would think in her world is PERFECT.
IF YOUR LAZY DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS UNLESS YOU WANT TO SERIOUSLY LEARN. SHES A VERY TOUGH GRADER AND GIVES ALOT OF HOMEWORK
She wasn't understanding of the fact that I was a dual enrollment student and she's a really harsh grader.
Honestly when I first started this class I thought it was going to be a piece of cake ,but it was harder than I thought. Professor Niles is a tough grader, she takes forever to give you back your essay ! Essays are worth 65% of your grade. You have to pass at least 3 essays in order to pass her class. I end up passing her class with an C!
Very passionate and knows her stuff but, due to that she leaves no stone unturned in your essays. I was not prepared for how tough she grades. if you are looking to step up your english skills, she is the teacher for you. you will dedicate your first novel to her, j/k, not but really.
I took ENC1101 with Professor Niles during my very first semester. She knows her material very well and is ready to help students. She is a tough grader, but you will learn SO much from her. Be on time to class and turn in all your homework. I would highly recommend her for those wishing to grow in their english skills.
In all honesty, you are going to want to avoid this professor if you have the chance. She makes english 1 complicated. The simple 5 body paragraph essay turns into a complex essay due to the requirements she has(she wants you to plan in a specific way that requires a outline ). Pop quizzes are her favorite thing as well even though they do nothing
She is very technical and grades very harshly. It's ridiculous how difficult she makes the class for Freshmen.
She's a pretty boring and tedious teacher. Harsh grader but if you pay attention to the class it shouldn't be too hard. She's very technical and anal about the class.
This professor is a solid choice for those who seek to farther their current abilities of English Writing to higher grounds.
Try to avoid this professor. If you're not on top of your studies, you're going to fail. She's very strict. Don't do it.
Was a good teachers. her lectures are good just a little boring. she really cares for her students and about having them pass. If you read the book and study you'll be fine. Had four papers due. The prompts aren't hard but she's a tough grader.
She is a great teacher. If you are serious about learning English and becoming a good writer, take her class.
Prof. Niles is a strict teacher and is a harsh grader when she gets the work. Although, she is strict, Prof. truly does know the material very well and you will learn a lot while taking her. Do not miss class or turn in homework late. You have to pay attention to her lectures and work hard for your grade.
Knows her material, but she is extremely tough on grading. Even though she is a tough grader, she allows you to use all notes you have for in class activities and tests. She will put you on the spot for not paying attention in class. Personally, pick another professor for ENC1101
The best teacher for ENC 1101 she is really patient and she cares. I actually learned something in her class. She is on point with everything and she gives chances to get a better grade.
Professor Nile's class is great;also, she cares about her students and she is passionate about the things she does.
Follows class policies, regardless of situation. Inconsiderate at times
This professor just wasnt the right one for me. Imagine all your life youve been told that youre an amazing writer, then you meet her & she breaks you down. She made everything complicated.
Its hard
Amazing professor although she grades very tough. Be prepared for many assignments. Gives extra credit and helps you if you reach out for her
I stayed at her office hours! She is hard to please.. Be prepared to work harder than hard! Even with hard work I got an C so if youre not trying just withdraw the class now! She has an attitude.. Just Avoid this class
She is very strict to the bone with her assignments. If you do not do it a certain way, be prepared to have a D on all your assignments. Also, attendances matters because if you missed a class (even if you are sick) and there was an assignment due, you would get a zero for it. Overall, just be prepared for a degrading time.
Professor Niles is a great teacher and really knows how to teach correctly. She is tough to be honest and you really need to know your stuff and do all the assignments, but she is a great person and is a teacher that i totally recommend.
She is a VERY tough grader. Her lectures are very thorough (sometimes too in depth for things that are common sense in my opinion), and I havent met anyone who has received an A on any one of her essays she assigns throughout the term. She WILL call you out if youre the type of person that doesnt really talk and you just do your work.
I spent hours at her office . She has no sympathy for anyone. Although I got help from other teachers my writing for her was still horrible. No matter how much hard you put in , it will never be enough for her. You can study as hard as you want , she will not give you the grade that youve earned. I most definitely do not recommend her as a PROFF!!
Professor Niles is an amazing teacher. I took her class online over the summer and I learned a lot. Youll become a better writer if you take her class because she gives great feedbacks on the essays. If you pay attention and do your work then youll pass her class. We Had to do 4 essays, had some quizzes and handouts. Nothing that cant be handled
She is a tough grader. All the essays I got before were at least an A but for her, it was always a B or C. Her lectures aren't too much, but sometimes the material is too much. Her grammar test isn't hard if you studied the material but 99% of the time you still won't get a decent grade. I don't recommend her
She is hard to understand, and her work has nothing to do with the books/ she say buy the book and read it..
i had to drop this professor half way into the semester, she's impossible and is the worst grader. everyone in the class was failing her and didn't make it to the end of the semester. when i dropped, everyone was asking me how i did it so they could drop her too. it also doesn't matter how hard you try, you're always going to fail with her! i swear
If you ask her for help during her office hours she will constantly bring up errors you made in your writing, laugh at you, and then give you no chance to make any work up. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. SHE IS A TERRIBLE PROFESSOR AND YOU WILL REGRET IT.
Hard to please, she expects all work to be as she wants it. Instructions, especially for essays, are complicated for no reason. "Refer to page 2" then "refer back to #3." Feedback is vague, repetitive, and adorned with "contact me to book an appointment."
Pros: Super kind! (she gives extensions on assignments if the class seems to be struggling), gives good feedback, lecture not heavy or boring, tests are not proctored, essay prompts are simple, tests are sooo easy! Cons: She is a tough grader (I've never got a perfect score on an essay).
She gives way too many grammar homework assignments. She grades way too hard, like she gave us a diagnostic essay the first day and gave us 30 minutes and graded it as if she gave us a week to complete it. And she overalls do too much but she does give good lectures and notes .
Professor Niles, when I was first introduced to her was not my favorite teacher. I felt that she was a very tough grader and her class would be too difficult. After, receiving amazing feedback from her on my essays, I learned that I have amazing potential as a writer. Every essay grade was better than the last. She inspired me to be an English major
Good professor but very strict about attendance, turning in assignments on time, participation and everything in between. Few extra credit opportunities but they still exist. Be ready to do many assignments. If you miss a day of class, you will miss the entire understanding of the work being reviewed at the time, because she won't show it again.
Professor Niles runs a tough class, but it's worth the effort. The assignments are challenging but provide great feedback to improve as a writer. unstuck AI was a lifesaver for prepping essays.
She is way too strict about the whole grading criteria, if u do it a little different than how she likes it she would drop your grade, also I never had so much trouble doing an essay, she is very strict on the format of this, and she leaves a lot of hmw.
Amazing professor, recommends free study resources, gives detailed lectures. Anything mentioned on the syllabus is 100% accurate but she is extremely difficult to please.
Niles is a great teacher especially if you love writing. I don't love writing at all, but taking this class made me realize how nice writing can be. I never had a great teacher that taught me the basics of verbs and grammar etc. I always struggled with that, but taking her class this year I couldn't ask for a better professor. Deff recommend.
I really enjoyed her lectures yes she may be a tough grader and may give a lot of work but it helped me so much I learned a lot in her class. Highly recommend.
Professor Niles is an incredible teacher! I've always enjoyed writing, but she's made it even more fun and engaging. Her lectures are great, too—she spends a full hour breaking down English topics in a way that's easy to follow, thanks to how clearly she speaks. She truly makes every class feel worthwhile. I recommend her as an English professor.
i took this class in spring 2025. for the essays she is looking for very specific criteria met and if you dont meet it she will deduct a lot of points. i will admit i am not the best writer but she was extremely harsh. i never got below a 70% on the quizzes/tests, i completed all the assignments on time, and somehow i failed. very frustrating
