I had Olson for lab and she genuinely wants all her students to do well and it is obvious. Highly recommend her as a lab instructor she does a very good job of helping you make connections from lab to lecture material. She is extremely smart but the material is very hard. But she does her best to make it click. However, do not get on her bad side.

Congratulations, you are taking the hardest class @ VCU! If you are not at least a chapter ahead, you are ten chapters behind. Come to class prepared, read the lectures, and study at least 30 hours a week. Dr. Olson is a blessing to VCU's anatomy department. She is the smart, encouraging and gives great feedback. This was possibly the worst class I have ever taken in my life. This class was extremely difficult for no reason and the amount of work we had to do for this class was so overwhelming. Her lectures are not helpful. There is way too much reading for a 10 question test that is worded like a puzzle. Avoid at all costs if you want to be happy.

Bio152 with Dr.olson is the worst class I have experienced at VCU. You basically teach yourself and she wants you to be able to apply it on group projects that honestly don't teach you anything. Her quizzes are the absolute worst, it honestly feels like she wants you to fail. I tried so hard in this class and it feels like it was for nothing.

This course is VERY time intensive, but Dr.Olson always tried her best to help students understand the material. If you take this class, make sure to attend open lab AT LEAST 1hr a week. She also does a team approach to learning, in the lab and lecture. Youll be assigned to a team of ~6 peers to work with throughout the whole semester.

Dr. Olson is an amazing professor. She really cares about her students and wants them to succeed. If you have any problems, she is there to make sure you are able to truly learn the material. I was scared to take this class, but Dr. Olson made it such a rewarding and safe learning environment. I would really recommend her!

She is a horrible professor; barely learned anything in the lectures, I often learned more by self studying using the textbook. Professor does not teach. Everything is "collaborative" and group work. She does not explain material or content well at all. Heavily relies on textbook. Feels like the class is an elementary, hand-holding class. Avoid this professor if you like working independently, or if you actually want someone who teaches you.

I wish VCU had a decent biology professor. Dr. Olson was absolutely awful. She barely taught anything in class (lots of videos) and would expect answers to high level questions on tests and class assignments. Horrible wording of questions too. Drops lowest exam score with optional final, but basically have to take final for grade to stay afloat.

Nothing on exams is related to what is taught in class. Anyway, nothing is truly taught in class. Expects students to teach themselves through textbook and then asks questions not found in textbook or lectured material. Not feasible to do well in her class even if you attend SI sessions. The lecture many of the days focused on just random team-building or stuff unrelated to anatomy. While I respect what she's trying to do, it's such a waste of class time when we only have 1 hour in lecture and it would help a lot of students out for her to just use that time on something actually anatomy focused.
