She is very helpful, very clear about everything, and super down to earth. You do need to study for the tests but if you study the chapters in the book and the review you will do fine. I liked the class and I'd definitely recommend Jennifer as a prof! :)
Jennifer is seriously awesome! She keeps class so interesting, doesn't just sit up there and talk the entire time. You watch videos that are actually worth your while and she has a lot of class discussion. She was my favorite teacher so far, just because of how cool she was, down to earth, and she's a younger lady who actually understands us!!
She is a great professor that is willing to work with you if you do not understand her expectations. Also, she is very understanding and will give you extensions if need be. You need to study for her tests, but otherwise a pretty easier grader. One research paper on a topic of your choice and then several small writings that are only one page long
Presents topics well and uses cool relevant videos, but seems unprofessional. Cancels class less than an hour prior & has changed test dates at least three times now. Will not admit to making mistakes ex: claims we had discussed a topic in class that not a single person recalls mention of, but is on test and not in text-then refused to review info
Not a good professor. Her lectures go by very quickly, and she does not post her notes online, so you have to scribble in chicken scratch to catch everything. Her exams are crazy hard (no one gets above a C), she hates giving out extra credit, and does not want to help her students with content. Do not take her.
Lectures were fast and unorganized. Her multiple choice tests were subjective. So unless you know what she is thinking, you probably won't get the questions right, and if you try to talk to her about why you got the answer you did... she will get defensive. Personal theory paperpresentation at the end was the biggest waste of time and a total mess
She treats her class like it's the only one on campus. She expects us to do way more than we can handle, especially remembering details for an exam. You won't do well unless you can read her mind, which is hard because she is very unorganized and not specific about what she wants. She is also defensive about her answers, even when they're wrong.
Don't take her! She is an incredibly tough grader and you never know what kind of test questions you will get. She is not helpful at all and if you don't read the book or come to class you will be screwed!
Do not take her. She speeds through her lectures and does not like to slow down. She will not send out any of the slides either. HARD grader is an under statement. gives assignments and doesn't explain what to do then takes points when you do not do assignment correctly. Average grades on all assignments and tests in my class were D's.
Dr. Parker is always willing to help and clarify something if it doesn't make sense. She says materials for the tests will come from lecture and the book, but 95% of the test material is from lecture and is found on the study guide she hands out. Can be a tough grader on the longer papers you write.
There is a lot of content covered in class which can make it difficult and create long lectures. Parker does a really good job of adding in stories and discussions to the lectures making them easier to sit through. She understands that there is a lot to learn in the class and always offers help on clarifying concepts. Overall great professor!
She is rather confusing during lecture, and is unlikely to admit when she makes a mistake. You have to write nearly ten papers, although most of them are only two pages long. Her exams are difficult, but she does grade on a curve.
Hard exams, study guides often come out the night before the exam. She is not willing to admit to any mistakes that she makes. Flies through lecture material and does not provide slides. If she does go back a slide she will spend maybe 5 seconds before going to the next one. Often cancels office hours so it is hard to get clarity on things.
Dr. Parker is very nice and helpful, but to me, she expected a lot out of a 1-credit intro class. There were a few big projects with really specific criteria which was tough, but the class met only once a week, so that was okay. She got sick a lot when I had her, so she was cancelling class a lot which screwed up the schedule, but overall she's ok!
She expects way too much for a 1 credit class. If she cancels class, she doesn't extend the due date, even if it's new material. Lectures are long and drawn out. Would not recommend.
Some of the assigned readings are irrelevant to the class; not to mention, the corresponding quizzes are harder than they need to be. Likewise, the final project is too involved with too many parts; she could've easily cut out some parts. Lectures are boring, but she'll give you bonus points for attending each class period. Pretty average overall.
I had a great experience with Dr. Parker. She has a great voice that is easy to listen to and I liked that she did in-class psych studies. She gives interesting examples in class. Her exams were taken right off the study guide and if you went to her TA's study sessions you'd pass. However, she often didn't get through all the material before exams.
All assignments in this class are helpful to the student's life and decisions. Not too much material actually covered. Very focused on self-exploration.
Dr. Parker is definitely not as bad as everyone makes her out to be. She's super nice, helpful, and understanding. Her tests are tough - IF you don't read the textbook! LOOK AT THE TEXTBOOK SUMMARIES BEFORE EACH EXAM. They are EXTREMELY helpful, because she WILL pull things out of the book that she didn't discuss in class.
Took Parker for Human Development, she's really nice and young which makes her easy to listen to. The lectures were lots of note taking but they're very helpful on the tests. She gives study guides before each of the 5 tests that tell you exactly whats on it. The final is not cumulative. You do have to write 3 papers, one of which is a group paper.
Not all assignment/quizzes were entirely necessary or relevant to the purpose of the course. Overall, Parker knows what she is talking about and is helpful. Follow the syllabus so you know what to expect because she doesn't always tell you before hand--not that it is her responsibility to do so.
Dr. Parker was a good professor, easy grader, clear expectations. Psych 101 in particular is so easy and was honestly a waste of my time. I wouldn't take the class unless you have to for your major.
I personally did not like this class at all. This should not be a 1 credit class for the amount of assignments we have to do. Expect to do a lot of pointless assignments as well, with readings that no one understands, then followed by a quiz no one can pass. She is kind of cocky. This is the last class I will ever take with her.
I really enjoyed Professor Parker. I feel like a lot of the comments on this page are about the workload for Psych101 but in all honesty I thought it was VERY manageable considering you only have class once a week. When she assigns articles and projects, she gives you 1-2 week advance notice so there's plenty of time to complete the work.
Great teacher. Very nice and respectable woman and gives clear expectations. Tests are a little tough but she does give helpful study guides and everything else you need to get a good grade. Study hard and you will get the grade you deserve. Learn APA format thoroughly to do well on her papers!!
Pretty challenging for an online class (the quizzes and case studies had lofty expectations) but not unmanageable. She posts study guides that cover the contents of the quiz. If you email with a question, make sure to do it early on because she can be slow to respond. This is my 2nd course of hers, and I actually prefer her online teaching format.
Dr. Parker assigns a lot of papers throughout the semester. The class itself is not very hard, it is just tedious. When she grades papers you do not get a rubric to follow, just a layout of the overall assignment, so if you struggle with that I wouldn't recommend this class to you. She is a kind professor and takes things slowly!
Dr. Parker is very caring of her students. The class was very simple and she explained everything so nicely. You always know what you need to do and when. The homework given is simple if you just sit down and do it. The class was very helpful for me.
LOVE DR. PARKER! she is my favorite prof. she is so caring with ALL of her students. This class was very simple and a very easy A. She gives extra credit as well. She really tries to have all of her students succeed. I would 100% recommend her
Wasted time in lecture, it's all in the book. Book is laughably low level, doesn't belong in college (poor/overdone explanations, little real content-just like the class as a whole). The assignments were a joke/busywork. Exam questions are extremely specific/insignificant. Exams didn't test us on valuable material. She had very messy slides. Avoid.
I really enjoyed Jennifer's class. She's super kind hearted inside and outside of class. Enjoyed her lectures and outside classwork is not bad at all if you put effort in.
She is very monotone and boring. She talks the entire period; nothing is interesting at all. She is always right and you are either wrong or somewhat correct.
Dr. Parker lectures out of the book and uses questions from the book on exams, so you have to read to do well. She is a nice person, but don't try to argue a grade because you will lose! Her teaching style is easy to follow, so as long as you read the book and do the study guides for exams you will be fine.
She could do more to get students involved during lecture, but she keeps you busy taking notes. She lectures out of the book, but you need to read because a large portion of of the tests, which are on D2L, aren't covered by the lecture. She is very specific about assignment guidelines and won't accept anything that does't follow them exactly.
Just no. Awful. Boring. Not a personal fan of her.
I would not have taken this class if I did not have to for my major. Topics covered didn't feel like it was necessary. Spent more time on pseudoscience than APA writing when she wanted a lot of APA styled papers.
If you're not interested in the subject you'll have a hard time with the class. But if you're interested in the topic then it'll make things easier. She does talk for most of the class but that's how most psych classes are. She didn't give too much direction for when we had to write a group paper, overall it's not a challenging class to do well in.
Since this class was only once a week you have to show up to every class or your grade will suffer. She is very good at giving feedback on papers and answering questions in class. She is very nice and understanding.
Best professor I've ever had. It's not a particularly hard or easy class but she makes it extremely interesting. Very interactive.
She seems like she is a nice person, however she grades extremely harshly. She is also really nit-picky about everything. She grades everything unfairly. I would not recommend.
She tries to get class involvement (which is hard in a lecture hall). She grades things fairly and is incredibly intelligent. She is more than willing to talk to you about questions and is very approachable.
She's the worst professor ever. Would not recommend.
Prof Parker is super nice, but her lectures are pretty boring. Tests are online and very easy if you use her study guide before hand. There are a few papers, but she's easy grader. Overall, this class is easy with parker.
I really liked Professor Parker! She's really sweet, passionate about her subject, and makes lectures very interesting. She offered extra credit, and you didn't have to come to class if you had to watch a documentary or take an exam (all her exams are online). Her exams were pretty hard, but don't rush and do the readings and you should do fine.
Way too much work for a 1 credit class required for my major. Didn't explain anything clearly and spent a good 1/4 of the class talking about APA. Too many large assignments for close to no points towards final grade. Super cool person but not the best prof when it comes to understanding assignment guidelines, specifically.
Your grade mainly rests on the quizzes of APA which is incredibly hard cause she teaches you then quizzes you. She was an okay professor.
The course is interesting, but Parker is a bit frustrating. The Case Analysis assignments are ridiculous, not because they are hard, but because Parker grades them EXTREMELY hard. A 5/10 is an average grade (she says herself,)(you will NOT get 10/10). Everything else, as long as you do the readings, is pretty straightforward.
Dr. Parker was impossible to work with. She did not communicate well and certainly did not make it easy to take her class. She is a harsh grader on assignments that require way too much work for a 1 credit class. Avoid her at all costs.
Im currently in PSYC 101 online with this professor and I can easily say that she is the worst professor Ive had yet. she Her emails are short and snappy and her comments on your work are just as bad. It really makes you want to give up in her class. This should be a fun class and its been nothing but miserable.
I am currently in Psych 230 online with Dr. Parker. She is still grading assignments that I've completed in September, which doesn't help me improve. You can't meet with her in person, therefore you must email her. It takes her DAYS to respond, which is not acceptable on her part. I really enjoy psychology, but she has made this class miserable.
Hard to do well & has a lot of assignments when it shouldnt since its only 1 credit. She takes days to email back & with no way of meeting in person its hard to have your questions answered in a timely matter. She docked me a lot of points because I was having issues submitting assignments and she just would tell me it was wrong not how to fix it.
I took this class online & we had a paper, a discussion post, a 20-30 page chapter, & a 30 question quiz each week. Although this is a 300 level class, the workload is still outrageous and if it was a in person class theres no way we would be assigned that much in a week. Also you only get 35 minutes to complete the quiz, she is very rude.
Since this is a one credit class it is only one time a week, and she has cancelled out class 3 times already, yet expects all the homework to be turned in on time. This is irrational because she never explains what she expects, and then deducts a ton of points because it's not how she wants it. Oh also, you better hope you never need to contact her
oh boy where do i begin? first of all she is always injured and cancels class every other week (and this class meets once a week). Secondly, she never has a clear description about what is going to be on quizzes or homework or any other paper/project. She is condescending and I got the feeling that she thought we didn't know anything about psych.
Class was way too much work for the credit given. Talking to the professor always felt like a waste of my time because she would just tell me to go look over whatever she had posted online, which I would have already read.
I literally would not have passed without extra credit because her quizzes are NOT easy, and that is like 2/3 of the final grade, and they are every week on an entire chapter. It was more work than my 400 level courses.
Canceled class more than we had it and i felt like I learned literally nothing. never want to see this professor again (not that I saw her much in the first place) let alone take another class from her. I will be actively avoiding.
Shes very hard to pay attention to in class. And she gives a lecture/PowerPoint every class period. Better write these notes down or you wont stand a chance on the quizzes/exams. Otherwise quizzes and exams are easy. Grades very particularly on assignments, hard grader. Many extra credit options. Wouldnt have taken if I didnt need it.
Dr. Parker is a great professor. Attendance is not mandatory, but if you don't go you won't understand the concepts. I thought that the class was super interesting and since she's a younger professor, she really cares about her students and them doing well in the class. I 100% recommend her as a psych 280 prof
I would only take this class if you absolutely need it. She is very inclusive to her students. However, I felt as though I didn't benefit much from the class. I was looking to see what careers I could do with a psychology degree and instead I was taught APA citations. I have gained better knowledge of both these things from other campus resources.
She directly violated the terms she set forth in her syllabus. After I showed her proof that I was not at fault for the technical error that lead to the misplaced assignment that she gave me a zero for. But other than that she was okay, just kind of hard to get a hold of by email.
Jennifer Marie Parker won't answer any emails or questions that I have. Also wouldn't change my grade when she was very clearly in the wrong on a quiz question even when I showed her that she was wrong.
After we went to online instruction due to Covid-19 she was the only one of my professors to not alter her class in any way. She did not provide any lecture recordings or virtual instruction so I had to teach myself everything from the textbook and internet. She was an okay professor in person but even then, not very dedicated to the class.
She is a nice woman and accommodating if you are kind and direct with what you are looking for. That being said, with going online for COVID-19, she assigned WAY too much homework for a 1 credit class. Her one credit class had more work than my five credit class, and that seems a bit ridiculous. She is a tough grader as well, very nit-picky.
she is not flexible with students, but asks for much flexibility herself so you think she would be more understanding when students issues come up. classes/exams are lecture heavy and she doesn't post notes out of class. assignments are easy enough but she is a really tough grader and exams are hard
impossible to get a hold of by email, even for very serious issues. you can tell she doesn't want to be in class. way too much work for a 1 credit class. 90% of the class was about how to write apa papers but that's not what the course description was so it was a waste of time.
Dr. Parker is not a good teacher of the material, nor is she ever accessible outside class. Our class met once a week and before we even went online she canceled 3 times. Dont recommend under any circumstances.
Not really sure why she gets such bad reviews. If you're like me and don't find psych particularly interesting and would more than likely fall asleep in the in-class version, then take it online with Jennifer. Don't let these other reviews scare you away; if you like to work ahead and can apply some self-discipline, then this is your class.
I relally liked prof. Parker but she was tough. Make sure that you do the readings for quizzes in her class. We had discussions about the reading before taking the quiz but it was still necessary to read. Attendance is key. No make-up work is accepted unless there are emergent circumstances and she WILL give you a zero. She also cancels class often
Jennifer is super understanding. She really just wants the best for everyone and for them to get the best out of their education. She does take forever to reply on email though.
Very hard to reach outside of class, she was not kind if she did respond to you. I feel as a professor you should be willing and happy to communicate with your students. She had very minimal assignments but was tough at grading them (look for any possibly wrong answers to knock you off points). She seemed nice the first day but she is not.
I would NOT take Jennifer's class again. Jennifer gives ZERO explanation and grading criteria for assignments then will give ZERO's on things that students are confused about. She expects you to know what she's thinking and doesn't have any clarification or actual help for students wanting to learn and grow. Horrible professor.
If you want an easy class takes this online. Jennifer is a JOKE. She expects her students to be expert psychologists on hw assignments. She does not teach AT ALL, so don't take her if you can't learn this way. She doesn't respond to emails and is rude to ALL of her students when trying to get help. Top 10 worst professors at UWEC.
Worst professor at UW Eau Claire. If you have to take a class with Jennifer run for the hills. She seems nice but is the opposite. She doesn't teach or respond to emails, rude and unhelpful. Would never take classes with her again if my life depended on it.
Disrespectful, doesn't explain clearly. Overall would highly recommend waiting to take a different professor's class that hers
If you do the bare minimum, you have a good chance of passing. Her class is one of those classes where you need to do the reading as there will be more information in the textbook that is not always going to be covered enough in class but will most likely be on the exams. Take advantage of the SONA extra credit and read her syllabus carefully.
The class itself is easy, you learn about different types of jobs within psychology, plan out the rest of your degree and learn how to use APA, but Professor Parker is not a good professor. She wasn't very accommodating, snarky, and cancelled class many times. If I could of taken the class with a different professor I would have.
she would just cancel class randomly and was very absent.
Do not take a class by Professor Parker. Her exams are out of this world hard. You could spend 2 hours working on her study guide, only to still fail the test. Awful class! Take something else. She says you earn your grade, but it is impossible to do well.
Dr. Parker seems nice in the first couple of weeks, but that was soon to change. She expects you to be pretty much an expert on all of the terms/topics, and she also doesn't teach them well in the first place. My grade dropped from an A- to a B in a week because I was super confused and got a bad exam score. Do not take unless need for credit!!!
Rude person in general. She makes you feel dumb for asking her questions. Very picky grader.
Literally awful. Makes you feel stupid for asking questions. A lot of rude/petty responses.
I do not recommend this class if you are not a psychology major. I took as a credit toward my psych minor, but regretted it because it's mostly about careers in psychology and grad school. Jennifer does not provide any lectures for her online class. Feedback on assignments is minimal and critical if offered at all; due dates are non-negotiable.
Dr Parker is incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about the subject matter of any class she teaches. She is attentive, responsive, and very organized. Her grading criteria, outlines and expectations are clear and she returns grades to students faster than any other professor I have had. I have taken two courses with her and I plan to take more.
This class was a big waste of my time. We were required to meet via zoom three times a week, and half of the classes were cancelled because of things happening outside of class. Waste of my money, when I could have completely taken this class asynchronously and learned at my own pace.
Very understanding of students and enjoys offering extra help, but her multiple choice tests are difficult and include some subjective questions with only one correct answer. Feels a bit unfair since the exams reflect most of your overall grade.
I liked Professor Parker as a teacher and thought that this class was fairly easy overall. I don't think that it is fair to grade her based off of the semester that I had her because she had a lot of personal stuff going on and had to manage a lot at once. Overall, she did well at engaging her students and I would take her again.
I have taken several classes with Professor Parker and have found her to be very organized, communicative, flexible, consistent and kind. She is a passionate, engaging, and knowledgeable lecturer. She ends up canceling class sometimes, but this is often due to health issues beyond her control and she always keeps the class on track despite this.
Some people are made to be educators, and some people are Jennifer Parker. She's snarky and rude, and for what? Being catty to your students is not going to motivate them to become "better". Exams don't always consist of what's covered in class, but I've found 85% of the exam questions on Quizlet anyways. Would think higher of her if she was nice.
I'm convinced she's besties with the devil himself because I'm not sure where else she'd get the idea to make us do a group project over Zoom. She's very rude if you make a mistake. Cancels class on a whim all time time. I felt like stuff in lectures was not what was on the exams. You can find most answers on Quizlet though, so it's not all bad.
Not sure what possessed Parker to go into this line of work, but I'd like to extend my deepest condolences to anyone who will have to take a class with her in the future. Lady is unforgiving and cares more about deadlines than content retention, while she herself cannot grade coursework in a timely manner.
Beware. She has lots of text reading and PowerPoint lectures, you will spend a lot of time engaged in this course. You need to show up to class otherwise you won't have half of the notes you need for exams. And exams are HARD. Study up! Luckily there is extra credit.
This class was very easy and something I would highlyly recommend if you are a psych major and need to take for upper division classes. It was really easy and the textbook was easy to understand the material.
I would recommend taking this class if it is a requirement for an upper division psych class or just an upper division class in-general. I used quizlet for a lot of the quizzes that I took. The discussions are easy and use the textbook for a lot of them.
This was an online course so I never actually interacted with Prof Parker, but I enjoyed the class. Every week you read a chapter of the textbook and did a 10 question worksheet, 30 question quiz, and something else like a discussion post or documentary worksheet. Very easy, no video lectures.
I'm very surprised by Dr. Parkers ratings on here. I thought this class was very well planned and pretty easy. Wasn't too difficult if you did the readings and look at her slides. A few homework assignments that were fun, a concept quiz each week (unlimited attempts), and a quiz each week. Do the reading and you will get an A.
This online course is pretty easy and I would recommend taking it with Professor Parker! Each week there is a chapter to read, a concept check with unlimited attempts, a short and timed quiz, and a short content-related assignment. There were often grading mistakes on quizzes, but she always gave points back right away when she was made aware.
Professor Parker has had some personal challenges this semester, but overall she's an engaging lecturer. The class can be tough, but using study resources like unstuck study alongside the textbook really helps. Attendance is mandatory, but the workload is manageable if you stay on top of it.
I took this class online over three weeks and it was totally manageable. You have a quiz/worksheet every day but they strictly follow the chapter correlating with them- super straight forward. I absolutely recommend taking it!
