Prof Jennifer Peter was really nice but her lectures were confusing. I've taken her course 3 years ago for Stats1024 and while she's not the best at explaining, she does offer help sessions which I've found to be quite useful. The first test went well but the course gradually became more difficult. Overall, not a bad prof but could be better.
Course content wasn't difficult. It was condensed so it moved fast. She always made sure people felt included and provide so many options to do anything. Eg. you can pick and choose which projects to do, and how to learn (reading or watching). Marking scheme is weird, make sure to know what is being marked and how.
I took this during covid so it was all online and I was honestly really impressed with how well she ran the class. The grading scheme was a little hard to understand but was designed allow hard working students to achieve a really high mark (I finished with a 95) since all assessments were pass/fail except the final. No real math but lots of coding
Honestly, she seems like a prof that tries hard. But unfortunately, the lack of communication and long periods between submitting and marking things is pretty unacceptable. Didn't receive any marks or feedback for the 1st part of the major project until a couple of days before the final part was due and still have not received any quiz marks back.
Well intentioned and seems to know what she's doing with content, but the wait time between assignment submission and receiving grades is stressful. The content itself isn't too hard but I had received none of my assignment grades back before the first midterm at the end of October, so there's been nothing back to gauge how I'm doing in the course.
She's ... certainly a mixed bag. On one hand, she's incredibly nice (I submitted an assignment wrong and she told me not to worry about it). Her lectures were posted online as well and were short, so that's a plus. On the other hand, her grading scheme is nonsensical and she takes so long to grade that I can't recommend her course to anyone.
Worst experience I've had at university. Would never recommend this course with Dr. Peter but its mandatory. It's been almost 50 days since we submitted our first assignment and grades aren't posted yet. We're two weeks from finals. Absolutely unacceptable. Grading scheme is unnecessarily complicated. We have no idea if we're passing. Terrible.
Peter is notorious for not handing things back in a timely manner. Things submitted in September still have not been returned and we are 2 weeks out from the final. Her grading scheme is insanely confusing, and with the assignment turn around nobody knows whether they are passing or not. Lectures are fluffed up to overcomplicate simple concepts.
Professor Peter seems like such a nice person, and she genuinely is, the problem is the way she runs the course. There is little to no practice which makes the midterms so difficult. We are a few weeks from the final and we still haven't gotten our first assignment back. Content isn't touch, just badly taught.
Terrible grading scheme. Torture.
Even though she may be a slow marker, I really liked how she conveys the material in an easy to understand format. I felt pretty confident with the assignments.
We still have not been given back an assignment that was due in September. This is completely unacceptable. The final is in less than a week and I have no idea what my grade it.
never ever ever take a class from this prof. she still hasn't given back assignment marks from two and a half months ago despite the final being in 5 days. the marking scheme is so messed up that someone with 100's on all assignments and an 84 on the exam will earn a lower grade than someone with 85's on all assignments and an 80 on the exam.
Dr. Peter is a fantastic prof and I enjoy how she teaches the course. The grading scheme is designed for students to succeed, but it is very difficult to determine what Base Grade to aim for without any prior feedback on assignments. I appreciate how much she cares for students, but our exam is in just a few days, and I have no idea where I'm at.
Lectures are easy to understand. She seems friendly but inflexible. Assignments from September haven't been returned yet and the final is in 3 days! She blamed the lack of released grades and poor time management on students needing accommodation and sending emails with course questions. We have no idea if we're passing or not and the final is 10%.
Very poor time management skills. The grading scheme is terrible. No feedback or receiving marks from assignments completed in early October. The exam is in 3 days and we have no clue how we are doing in the class. Do not recommend this prof.
Great prof! Really enjoyed her lectures and evenly distributed assignments so we don't feel overwhelmed. Some people need to cut her some slack...
Greatest stats prof I've ever had the pleasure of taking a class with. No regrets!
From Day 1 I knew she was the best stats prof and she continued to prove it throughout the year. 100% recommend Jenny.
I took this course in the summer and bro fr fr shes a proper teacher no kizzy like she explains stuff really well and the assignments and quizzes and exams were all fine if you just listened to what she said and did practice of course. Not gonna lie the grading scheme was a mod ting but it all worked out - great prof, great person W everything fr
Stats is actually a really good course and Peter does a really good job of teaching it. People who complain dont take the course seriously and procrastinate because legit with a little effort and time put it, one can definitely understand the stats she so excellently teaches its not rocket science. Difficulty should be 0 honestly. Awesome prof!
The most understanding professor at western. Her lectures are really informative and she makes them interesting. The base grade marking was a bit annoying but other than that she's one of the best prof!
Cares about students and grades differently. The term tests and exams aren't worth much. There are lots of assignments but you only need to do a few of them to get all the marks. Also she explains things very well in online lectures and in the in person lectures. This prof is a real one.
Jennifer Peters is one of my favourite profs. She is very sweet, and you can tell that she truly cares about her students. She realizes that stats is a difficult course that is mandatory for science students to take, so she does everything she can to make it easy on us and show support. Would 100% recommend.
It literally can't get any simpler than this class. She makes the points super clear to pick out and provides loads of practice problems to work on. Yes she's a slow marker and that's not the greatest thing in the world, but class is a joy to attend. To do well, I would recommend making summary sheets for each topic and review slides when studying.
Surprised to see so many positive reviews. Worst class I've taken at university with regards to professor time management. She seems to truly have good intentions, but terrible execution. A lot of unnecessary stress caused by the complete lack of graded feedback. Assignments still not returned and the final exam was last week. Horrid experience.
It's been rough. I raised four assignments in this course, and after raising them it seems they've all left me without checking in on me. My first born, Assignment 1, left me 3 months ago... and has not checked in to see how I'm doing. The worst part is that I can't even claim child benefits anymore :(
Lectures are fine. She is caring but timing is a huge issue. Don't know if we passed because of the grading scheme and lack of returned assignments (Still nothing on Assignment 1 from first week of Oct.) Final exam was written with very little graded feedback to work and study from. Want to know if I need to retake while there's still time.
Grading scheme from hell. Handed in assignment one at the start of the semester and wrote the final exam with still no feedback. Make sure you earn the final exam grade stated in your base grade requirements otherwise it'll count the same as if you never wrote it at all!
Takes forever to grade things. Today we finally just received the assignment that was due in September. This is completely unacceptable.
Literally one of the worst professors I've had. She didn't grade anything on time and the grading scheme for the class is general was such nonsense. If stuff was marked quicker there was a bunch of extra work that I wouldn't have done. It was a waste of my time. She also made all the instructions for the assignments way too long and confusing.
Terrible grading scheme and assignment instructions. Avoid this course if you can.
Just bad. Hard to follow lectures and hard exams. She found a way to somehow make every concept incredibly confusing. talked way too fast and the course was presented in an incredibly difficult to follow manner. The grading scheme was also unfair and confusing.
Most ridiculous marking scheme, super harsh. The notion that "It's possible to get 100% in my course" isn't valid to most students. Normal marking scheme: receiving mostly level 4s and one level 2 would result in a level 3, but nope, instead one level 2 tanks the mark as if it were a level 2. Marks come back too late so you do more work than needed
Course structure is built upon a base grade and increments making the course easy to pass but extremely difficult to do well in. Started the course off with the highest base grade but was instantly dropped to the lowest base grade due to one assignment. Don't expect to know your grade until 2 days before they need to be submitted to the registar.
I'm two weeks into stats and this is unequivocally the most painstakingly boring course I have ever had to do. I dread all of the lectures, and the prof doesn't make it any easier explaining simple concepts in non-intuitive ways. There is an unbelievable amount of assignments and activities. If I wasn't medsci this would be the last course I'd take
Horrible, even though I did somewhat okay! She was horrible and I think I just got super lucky with the way things ended in 2021. But yeah, not great and she messed up my grades too, to which she had to regrade it and I had to spend money again on another transcript. so don't recommend it at all, love the grading scheme though, truly relaxing.
I'd like to think that she is trying her best, and maybe she is having trouble managing her time. But the thing is the lectures arent even synchronous. THAT IS, she is using material she had previously created. The marking scheme is bad. THAT IS, it sets you up for failure. To describe what it feels like in one word: incompetence.
Prof Peter is generally nice and understanding Professor who means well. Her lectures are usually well put together and easy to understand. The main issue with this course is not the professor, but the odd grading scheme and snail pace grading. It's almost impossible to get in touch with the course staff and have your needs met. Overall, not bad.
I do not understand what is happening with this course!! Why is prof peter so behind on all her stuff! Also the grading scheme is so bad. Why was the midterm only 23 marks. For every mark you loose you drop 5% this does not make sense
This prof somehow makes simple concepts extremely confusing and not straight forward, I wouldn't recommend this class to anyone if they don't have to take it. Also, the marking scheme is not good. If you mess one thing up your grade drops 20%, and you won't even know of that 20% drop until the course is finished. That is, the marking is snail pace
This course is just ridiculous, it is only one day before the final and we still have not gotten our midterm results back nor a majority of the course work. The prof tries to be nice but we've all seen significantly larger courses run more efficiently.
Understanding and gives extensions when needed and homework is not too much trouble. Questions with feedback are ingrained into the PowerPoint slides, which is nice. However, the grading scheme is horrible and marking speed really needs work. I did not receive feedback for my project until the very last days. Also doesn't often check her messages.
One thing about Professor Peter is that she is a ridiculously slow marker. For perspective, I finished this course 3 weeks ago today, yet less than 50% of my mark has been decided. I submitted my midterm over 5 weeks ago, and still have no idea how I did on it. When asked about it, she either doesn't respond, or blames it on her kids. Seriously?
Prof Peter is a great person, she is so helpful and patient in her office hours, and you always leave feeling mostly reassured. Everything else about this course is bad. The marking scheme, the marking speed, the actual lectures, the lack of practice. Oh wait the course is actually pretty organized though, so there's that.
stupidest marking scheme you can ever think of. if you get a 50 on the midterm and an 80 on the final you might not even pass. get it together jenny what is this
Such a bad professor. Makes statistical concepts so confusing for no reason. No time management skills at all. We were forced to teach ourselves the last few lectures on ANOVA and post-hoc tests because she ran out of time to teach them but still put them on the final exam. We did not get our grades back until two weeks into SECOND semester.
1. She cant teach ANY concepts properly 2. her slides are useless on the concepts after the midterm 3. she takes years to mark your assignments/tests 4. I could literally teach the course better than her
I have never seen worse slides, do not go to the lectures. She takes years to explain anything. also takes years to mark anything, hasn't handed anything back before the final. so do not know what mark you are going into the final with. Also the most confusing marking scheme i have ever seen. Do not take this class if you don't have to.
Honestly one of the worst learning experiences I've ever had. Classes were absolutely useless, we were behind 4 weeks worth of content like 2 weeks before our final. Marking scheme sucks you have no idea how you're doing in the course cuz u don't get anything back. If u get a 95 on the midterm and a 70 on the final and you're mark drops like 12%.
Teaching is very poor, explanation of concepts especially for standard deviation and confidence intervals. No point in even watching the videos, you would honestly save more time watching wise-rep or YouTube videos than trying to listen and understand this professor. the amount of frustration is not explainable.
The "base grade" scheme is the worst ever evaluation process I've seen in my life. Lengthy and unclear instructions for assignments, labs, lectures, and basically everything. At this point, I only question her qualifications for teaching people.
Marking scheme is almost impossible to understand. Base grading marks zero sense. Takes ages to release grades for assigned work, yet keeps assigning more work. Grades are received based on a credit system yet you don't know if you have enough credits to skip an assignment since you don't have your grades. Lectures are useless, skip this course.
The course is well set up when it comes to teaching and the material is easy enough. However, be prepared to never get assignments back and if you need to contact them, expect to wait weeks. Also, the grading scheme is so confusing for no reason and if you screw up one small thing, it can be the difference between 5% of your final mark.
Horribly disorganized course. Lectures seem like they are thrown together and have no structure. Through 3 classes you get through 4-5 slides of one PowerPoint
Like everyone says her marking is so incredibly slow. It's extremely unfair to students and genuinely caused me so much anxiety waiting to know what my marks were. She didn't hand back stuff handed in in october until literally today. Went into the final with no idea where I was in the course. Marking scheme legit sets you up to get lower marks.
The course is extremely disorganized and horribly paced. It's March 30, and we're just starting a topic that her syllabus says we should have completed 11 days ago. There are 6 school days left before classes finish, and because her pacing is so bad, we have to cram 5 labs, 2 assignments, and all the most important coursework in right before exams.
We just had our last lecture yesterday and didn't even get through the material. She encouraged us to stay past the end of class time to "wrap up a point". Not even sure what the final exam will be on since we didn't finish all the content!
The final is in six days and we have not gotten our midterm marks back yet. She spends most of her time writing unnecessarily long emails. I thought everyone was exaggerating about her but jesus this is absolutely insane. I have no idea what my mark is going into the final because I haven't received a mark back since FEBRUARY.
Honestly, I do feel really bad for Prof Peter because she does seem to be under a lot of pressure that she can't handle. She's genuinely super nice and mostly really helpful when questions are asked. Lectures don't really teach content well. I would like to add an update that our midterm mark from the first week of March came in today.
Great professor, she seems to care about what she is teaching. I assume a majority of the poor reviews are from people who have no previous experience with stats. It is very basic content, and you have the ability to get a 90+ in this class with decent effort as long as you are organized, complete assignments, and study for midterms and exams.
Terrible professor. Night before the final exam we've only gotten back around 3% of our grade in the course. The grading scheme is outrageous (if you lose 0.5 on an activity, it can drop ur grade down 3%), and is designed for students to get a poor grade. Content isn't that bad, yet its taught in the worst way possible.
In all my 5 years of education, I have never ever met a professor as unorganized as her. Our final exam is TOMORROW and we only got back 2 pieces of work ( worth 3% of our whole grade). No one knows their official standing in the course. Many other STATS courses in different schools do not use coding. Difficult course with terrible way of teaching.
The final exam is tomorrow and we only have gotten back 2 evaluations worth 3% of our final grade back, even though she said she would return other things multiple times throughout the course. Excessive, over-the-top definitions for simple concepts, long modules you can't speed up, and tedious assignments.
This is the worst professor that I have ever met and could ever possibly meet, no course grade and no structure. Overly complicated and simply unnecessary, I was told that the first assignment would be out tonight, but nothing came out yet. Lack of responsibility and care for students.
For a reputable university to which we pay $20,000 per year, one would naturally expect professors who complete their work diligently with organization. I'm afraid this prof is caught up in her delusions, offloading her brain power to responding to students' emails with extensive 8-10 paragraph responses rather than marking our work.
It is now the day before the final exam and all we have is about 6% of our final grade back. She keeps promising dates for assignment returns and then not following through on them.
We still have no marks back except for two activities. It's been a month since we submitted our first assignment. Our final exam is tomorrow. I will be expecting to get my grades back by the time I get my undergrad diploma.
It's our final technical today... and we haven't gotten more than 10% of our mark. She is very understanding with late submissions, she is nice to students, and the content isn't too hard. But, prepare to not know your progress in the course until the very end, with nearly no feedback or marks given back :(.
The course content itself is not bad and prof peter is very sweet and understanding. However today is the last day of the course and we haven't received any assignments or midterm marks. It seems like she's under alot of pressure and I hope she receives help for the course markings in the near future because she's genuinely very kind and helpful :/
The Statistical Software Program R...
I cannot understand her lectures, she takes 10 mins to explain something that can be explained in a phrase and overcomplicates contents. Exam was easy, but horrible coursen, horrible R studio software, western should fire her.
I think prof Peter is very kind, But I am frustrated by the fact that we did not get our grades back yet, I finished the final exam before 8 days, but I do not know my grades for more than 70% of the course. The course content itself is not hard ( R is HARD), but the evaluations are confusing. It is like checking the grade book every hour haha.
It's been 16 days since we wrote the final and we still haven't got our midterm marks back lol. As a professor, I would expect better time management skills and responsibility to own up to it. Instead, she makes excuse after excuse thru long e-mails when she could just use that time to grade our stuff.
It's been 18 days since the final exam and 40 days since my midterm. I have the mark for 3/5 activities, 2/3 assignments and no midterm or final. I currently know 36% of my overall mark... She blames it on the TA contract ending on the day of our final, which is understandable, but where are the midterm, and the other activities/assignments???
actual course is note bad-went into the final exam only knowing about 20% of my grades and it has been more than month since the midterm and about 20 days since final exam, where are my marks jennifer?
Never gives back marks when she says she will, complains about all of the things going on in her life in lengthy emails instead of grading the work that she has assigned. The midterm was written on July 9th, it is now august 24th and I STILL have not gotten the mark back, same with the final, and 2 of the assignments. Avoid Peter at all costs!!
She sent us an email 2 weeks ago that we will get our marks back in a week. We haven't heard anything back since then, she ghosted us......
The grading scheme in her class is terrible. She makes it very hard to get higher than an 80. Her lectures are only 10 slides however she rambles and takes the full time when it could be finished in half. Would not recommend.
Over/under 3.5 slides. Prof Jen Peter does not stop the yap fest at any point in time.
JENNIFER! The biggest yapper in London, Ontario, all she does is yap yap yap yap yap, one lecture from the yapper gets you clap clap clapped. In all seriousness though, her lectures are useless and I had to take an Adderall to attentively listen to the yap fest. The statistical software R :D The sampling distribution of sample means :D.
This woman created yapping, all of her hour long lectures can be taught by a 10 minute khan academy video. She takes forever to get grades back and her grading scheme is the worst thing ever, like wtf is P M A etc. JUST GAVE ME A PERCENT. Hoping she realizes teaching is not her true calling and quits and finds happiness so future students can too.
Her slides don't have the key points on them and she goes on tangents, but the content itself is pretty easy Appreciate her 'teaching philosophy' where she tries to get us to understand the reasons behind things, but this should be followed up with a slide of key points. Grading scheme is so weird. Accessible outside of class.
All JP does is yapyapyap. Most painful moment of my university career was watching her labs. WHY IS SHE IN A DIFF LOCATION FOR EVERY VIDEO THOUGH IS THE REAL QUESTION?! In this course all u will learn is how to follow a (y)applet, and some useless formulas. Get ready to read 3000 word emails (yes i used a word counter!)
I think the reason jennifer can't grade our work is cuz she cant remember what the letters of her 187093 mean. what happened to ABCD since when is F a good thing. class would be more enjoyable if you were to indulge in ... before however biochem is right after so we cant be doing that
The yappest of them all dropped the yappiest email in history trying to end the year with a touching yapathon. Due to this I have been exposed to the Covid type #yAp42069 and can not stop yapping as a result. Do not worry I am quarantined for the remainder of the holiday break.
Jennifer Peter is my all-time favourite prof. She's the nicest prof I had, and went above and beyond accommodating for disabled students. She's infamous for the slow marking but this term she managed to finish before Christmas. I like the weird grading scheme, seems to have improved as well. She can be more concise but otherwise an amazing prof.
Overall not bad. The grading scheme is weird and can be difficult to get a high mark. However, it's also hard to get a low mark as long as you complete it. Professor Peter is a very nice person, she tries to provide course materials in many ways, such as posted slides, recordings, and transcript. She could definitely be more concise tho.
decent prof and its easy to get above an 80. lectures are slow and weird so you will probably end up teaching yourself but content is easy. grading is strange but not so bad that it jeopardizes your mark a lot. also she does not respond to any messages.
Amazing lecturer, content isn't heavy and she gives every topic a lot of time so the material can be engaged with.
Her lecturing style is deeply concerning, as it not only fails to effectively engage students but also creates a detrimental environment for teaching assistants. There is a glaring absence of efficiency in her approach, which results in unnecessary distress for both students and TAs.
This course is a lot of work, but I feel like the prof doesn't get enough recognition on her part for how accessible she makes herself outside of class. This is a straightforward course if you can grasp the concept of models and what conditions you need to use them. Marking is very fair too, and for the exams as long as you YAP you will do well.
If I had the chance to turn back time, do not take this course, taking this course with JP has caused me a lot of stress in future classes which built on top of this class. JP does not prepare us enough and I would recommend taking stats 2857 if you can, It will save you in the future.
Idk what all the other reviews are saying but I loved Prof Peter and her class. I thought her lectures were pretty easy to understand and her exams were fair. Her assignments were a bit tough, but if you studied the lecture content, high grades were achievable. I didn't think the homework was too much, and I took methods at the same time too.
This professor provides innapropriate time to complete assignments and quizzes, and on top of that, you will not know your grades for these quizzes and assignments until AFTER your final exam. She marks horrible and has the worst time management known to humankind. she has somehow made an otherwise easy course the bane of my existence.
Crazy marking scheme. The content isnt even hard but the marking scheme is heavily flawed. Yapper.
Nothing is marked in a timely fashion, questions are not answered appropriately, ALWAYS uses more words than necessary and runs out of time to get things done. Content is easy but lectures are painfully slow. Told us to be nice when reviewing her because reviews are "biased against women and minorities" when in reality, she's just bad at her job.
Gives possibly one of the most convoluted and unnecessarily long explanations of all time. I used to love stats and I had an intuitive understanding of t-tests and ANOVA and would use them often to write lab reports in IB, not anymore. My life is now way way harder thanks to JP.
worst class ive taken not that its hard but the teacher and assignment marking and midterm marking are horrible. Never tells us what we got on assignments rather it is just estimated final grade assuming u get 100% on the final like who does that i just wanna know what i got on the assignment. I would avoid this course at all cost.
the only thing you get out of this course is learning how to read paragraphs and paragraphs of information in a short period of time. literally EVERYTHING in the course is so much yap except the lecture slides, which is impossible to understand even when she "annotates" them. yikes!
Prof Peter's class was a mixed bag. The lectures were engaging, but her grading scheme was confusing. Thankfully, unstuck study was a lifesaver for study prep. Overall, a decent class if you're willing to put in the work.
JP is an amazing prof. I'm not sure why there are this many negative reviews, but I really enjoy the way she teaches. Her lectures are definitely worth going to- she makes each topic a discussion, her activities/assignments are a really great indicator of tests/exams, and she goes above and beyond to answer students' questions in the discussions.
Don't know why everyone hates her. As long as u go to her classes u should be okay, but she doesn't really record lectures and her lectures are snooze fests. You don't even need notes as long as you go to class she gives you time to create cheat sheets for exams. The course may seem heavy if you finish assignments right on the due date so lock in.
Can't mark fairly. Final grades can fluctuate by 10% simply from unfair marking. Make sure to review your marks and ask for a regrade for every little thing.
WHat the actual. Cannot mark anything fairly, the syllybus is not understandable. Have a GPA of 90+ before taking this course, and this course just wrecked everything. The Labs are super long, there is 9+ assignments that are super long and involves heavy reading. ITS A STAT COURSE why am i reading ESSAYS and ESSAYS.
Spent half the course explaining in detail the easy topics only to rush through the difficult ones at the end. Everything in this course is so wordy and over complicated. The grading is also quite subjective. I would not recommend taking this in the school year.
Not sure why her reviews are so bad… compared to other STEM profs she's SO compassionate and really cares about her students. Exams were both fair and exactly like the practice. Only think i didn't like was the assignment marking scheme (she grades with the mastery-proficiency scale) so it's really easy to get a bad mark for messing up one thing.
JP is honestly underrated, her lectures are easy to follow + if you don't understand anything just go to her student hours. Assignments and activities are representative of exams. Lots of concepts are intuitive. If you like doing assignments/problem-solving type questions more than MCQs, you'll tend to enjoy this class more.
Amazing, caring prof who delivers engaging and clear lectures. Very clear grading criteria, and additionally very lenient marking as well. Only drawback is that the material is more challenging and is gone through a lot quicker post midterm. Overall, an excellent professor who goes above and beyond to deliver a pleasant experience in the course.
I am genuinely in awe at how her marking scheme is approved by Western. The assignments are marked in such a way that if you miss ONE little thing in 1/3 of them (something that isn't even specifically asked), you get a 28% out of 30% overall in the Assignment category??? On the exams you could miss 1 word in your page long answer and get 2/3.
I just took STATS 2244 over the summer. This is not coming out of spite or hate, I did pretty well. (1) The lectures are hard to get through with a lot of unnecessary things. She has trouble being concise so simple topics seem hard. (2) The grading is odd, you can lose a hefty % for small mistakes. (3) Marks are not given back in a timely fashion
We received our first grades back less than 24 hours before the final exam and the grading scheme was unforgiving for small mistakes. I found that the lecture content was poorly explained and simple topics were overcomplicated.
This is supposed to be a science course, but there's an overwhelming amount of reading and writing assignments. I honestly don't understand why we're spending so much time on writings. It feels more like an English or philosophy class than a science course
I cant lie my friends all had bad experience with her but I thought she was chill. Was my best grade throguh my university career with a 98 and exams and assignments were marked easily. However the marking took forever as i receieved my midterm mark back 2 days before my final exam. Prof herself is a nice person who emailed us to add her pokemon go
Everytime I drove to school I prayed that I would get in a car accident so I didn't have to attend her lecture.
Very terrible class, assignment grading is the stupidest criteria you will ever see in your whole education career. Even if you try your best to make a bad grading for an assignment, you won't make it as bad. Takes forever to grade, you might get your midterm couple days before your final exam while she has a ton of TAs.
Speechless
Don't ever take her courses
Very unclear marking scheme; long, gross, redundant instructions/teaching; take the course on LOP if you can
This professor made me lose interest in stats already
grading scheme makes no sense and she takes forever to get ur grades back to you. for half the course she would spend an entire lecture on 3 slides and then near the end of the course she flies through everything. the midterm only 3 topics when there are 11 topics in total...
Grading scheme incredibly confusing, all assignments were pass/fail and difficult to complete because she was always behind in lecture material and it would take forever to get assignments back, which determines if we do the next assignment(s) because of the grading system. Labs were useless, and we got little help with coding assignments.

Professor Peter was a good professor up until the midterm (which was only on 3 chapters when the final exam was on 11). After the midterm everything changed. She would NEVER return any marks or assignments, and she is so picky with her grading if you miss one word you could lose tons of marks on an answer. If you dont have to, dont take this class.
It's a crime to make this course mandatory. JP doesn't return ANYTHING on time, we are left in the dark until the very last day of the course. In fact it's now 24 hours before the final exam and I still haven't gotten my assignments back, nor has she regraded my midterm. Marking schemes are ridiculous and exams questions are overwhelmingly long.
Do not recommend. Terrible grading schema, lessons are convoluted, and grades come back so late that once you realize you failed an assignment, the course drop date already passed. Grading is terrible, a friend and i submitted the same assignment; I failed and he got a near 100%. Grading schema will fail you out of the course with an 80 course avg.
I wrote the rating below this, just making an adjustment to the difficulty. It is DEFINITELY a difficult. Not because of the content though, it's solely due to the way the tests and assignments are graded and structured. Med Sci student wanting a 4.0 in this course? Dream on.
this is the most terribly managed course at western, maybe even in all of Canada. it (somehow) explains concepts in a way that's too easy AND too complex, which makes you leave the course learning nothing. the cherry on top is that the grading scheme is disgustingly vague and nothing gets returned within a reasonable time frame.
Not gonna lie, the worst course I've ever taken
This is the first time I've seen so many ones for a prof, Western should come and see this.
JP makes her lectures unnecessary confusing, by using scientific jargon that clearly doesn't need to be used. He grading scheme is outdated, she doesn't work on evenings and weekends, and she can't give clear instructions. Instead she provides a 100 page pdf that includes so much unneeded filler. Exams do not reflect how much you study at all.
People need to stop complaining about her. She tried her hardest to make this class as easy as possible and people are mad just because they can't pay attention or even put in a paltry bit of effort. Her assignments are so easy to get 100s on, she tries her best to explain hard concepts in easy terms and stays after class to answer any questions
Avoid her at all cost!
Some topics were hard to understand, but she gave lots of practice questions (with answers and explanations) and showed plenty of examples. I'm not good at coding, but any code needed for assignments was provided in the labs she posted online.
Weekly assignments take hours, yet feedback can take a month or more. The grading scheme is brutal: one Level 2 out of many will cost you 10% of your final grade, and minor combinations still lead to failure. Easily the most unfair and demoralizing grading system I've experienced—avoid if you can, for your own sake.
Avoid this course.
It is time for her to refle ct herself, after asking us doing tons of “refl ection” writing which has nothing related to statistics content.
TWO WEEKS AFTER FINAL, STILL NO MARKS?????
