a rookie prof...unclear...does not follow the syllabus. Might be better off w/ someone else
lets just say i hope you like papers. you do five 3 page papers and two 10 page papers. maybe she doesn't realize we have other classes.
prepare to write ALOT-first semester teaching-enjoys not announcing homeworks and then marking your grade down if it is late-not sure what this is teaching anybody-this is from more than one student-if you are nice to her, she might still not like you-BAD
thinks she is too good to smile back when you smile at her, unless you are a guy.
she is clearly biased...asks for papers with no content...impossible to get a good grade if she doesnt like you...very discouraging...wish I could have my money back

I am doing quite well in her class, but you just gotta try. write 5 40pt papers...very easy points, gave us a take home test...very east points, and gives bonus attendence points...more easy points. Like I said, you just have to try. (Big project too)
Great Prof!!! Easy to understand, assignments are short and easy. Class is enjoyable. Just all-around good.
She is a very good teacher. She is very clear and helpful. She lets you know up front what she expects.

rookie! thinks because she got her doctorate she knows how to teach. Lots of writing, lots of boring details. if you have to take her, take her at night, you`ll only be there 45 min. a night. biased towards some, she`ll get better, just not now. good luck
Rude, condescending, and very unhelpful. She is very tall and big with red hair. She thinks she is the greatest thing because she has a PhD but I don't know what is so great about her. She doesn't teach much - a lot of in-class assignments.
she treats you like a kid. A rookie prof. who didn't even get her undergrad in business. You work a little u get a B...if you work hard u will get a B
She belongs at community college, this class is not university level material. She treats students like children. The class is a cross between English 101 and Sociology 101, a complete waste of my time and money. I expect a B, she doesn't give A's.
I would NOT recommend this professor at all. Thinks she is "all that" b/c of her Doctorate and everyone is beneath her. Clueless on the class project. If you don't word it "her way" it is wrong. Don't take her.
Not a good professor. lectures at a 5th grade level. Tests at a college level. Completely pointless to try to learn from her lectures.

She reads the powerpoints just as you are. Always talks about her travels. Can't learn from her lectures or book. Tests are impossible.
This prof. has no experience in the field, lectures strictly from PowerPoint, boring, unclear, and immature. If you are an adult returning to school, DO NOT take this Prof. Does not like to feel like to feel inferior in the field, but really is inferior. Take someone else!
I had her for business negotiations, I am not sure why she is getting bad ratings. She is VERY nice, and helpful. Exams were easy and straight from powerpoints. She is a great teacher for this. I highly recommend!
The project SUCKS, but she is very clear on what she wants and helpful. The tests are hard and you have to read the book to get a good grade.She's really full of herself
Class is pretty straight forward, do the work and you will be fine. Pope is a good prof, wants you to do well. Interesting class! !
I really liked Pope. She's really funny and her tests weren't that hard. If you pay attention in class, she lets you know basically what will be on them. She has a lot of experience and is very clear about her expecatations from her students.
If you really want to learn something, then don't pick Prof Pope. If you want to improve your memorizing techniques then take her, because all she does is give quizzes throughout the semester based on her redundant powerpoint slides. Boring, unclear and no good teaching techniques. Overall I don't recommend her.
Shes a really cool person. I had fun in her class. I took it as a SWS and it was a lot of work! huge paper and tests. But she explains whats in the book and has some fun in discussions
Worst Professor I have had at GVSU! Boring, just reads her power points which she lifts right out of the book. She did not know the material, no insights I doubt she could pass her own exam. Her in class projects were poorly conceived and she put very little thought into them. She is not a teacher I would reccomend if you want to learn.
Overall I really enjoyed this class and topic. It is extremely laid back and she gives out 20+ extra credit points throughout the semester. The quizes, which are all extra credit, usually consisted of a random funny question like, "what is your name and what class is this." Tests are fair but I will warn you the final is a doozie (15 essays)!
I took this as a night class and it was horrible. She made us stay the entire time so that she could impress her boss (she told us that). Has no real business experience other than working at a pest-control-place. Boring, pointless, picks favorites, and overall waste of time and a disappointing class. Avoid at all cost.
AVOID. Horrible prof. No experience, reads straight from ppts and tells pointless stories. Thinks her class is most important thing on this Earth...not the case at all. Bring some homework to class or something else to work on, b/c it's not worth paying attention to her babble on about absolutely pointless material. Again, AVOID!!!
The class is pretty easy, even with a lack of previous MKT classes. She gives a lot of extra credit in place of attendance. Her exams and homework are a lot of writing, more than a SWS class. Hardly used the book -- powerpoints have all of the class material on it. Weekly geography quizzes.
Dr. Pope is not that bad of a professor. She can just get off topic a lot. For not being an SWS class you have to write 8 two page papers which is easy. Tests are directly off powerpoints. You get extra credit sometimes for showing up in class.
Dr Pope is a great teacher. The book is not needed for this class, just read the power points. As mentioned earlier, if you show up for class an a majority of the class isn't there she will give "quizzes" for extra credit. Midterm/final are all essay but clear cut question. Take her if you can.
I thought she was a good professor. Class was pretty simple. She gives geographic quizzes every week.You will have to do a lot of writing for this class but she's a pretty easy grader.
This class is full of pointless busy work. Writing and research is more than an SWS course. Weekly geographical quizzes are easy points. Exams are complex application essay questions. She seems to have a chip on her shoulder and I don't think she is qualified to teach a course this dependent on writing. Just another worthless GVSU theme course...
She had very high expectation on homework assignments, and the class seemed to be more of an SWS than just a normal class. The material wasn't too hard and I never once opened my book. As long as you study and memorize the power points that she posts, you will do well. The geographic quizzed are just a waste of time.
Memorize, Memorize, Memorize. There is not critical thinking involved in the class. Did not learn a thing. Not really qualified to teach business. The quizes are easy and the paper are simple but its busy work.
I'm amazed students have given her good reviews. Dr. Pope is not qualified to teach business. It was a consensus among students I spoke with that the class is pointless busy work. Terrible. Ton of busy work and offers nothing in the way of Conceptual thinking. Its all about memorization. Lectures were brutal to sit through. Many students slept the whole class. Is not qualified to teach business. Offers no.... real world exp.
Don't get credit as an SWS but twice the amount of writing. The worst of the professors I have had in my four years. Treats students like children.
She's the best MKT instructor at GVSU so far. As long as you study and put your effort in doing hw and papers, getting an A in her class is just so easy. I took 2 classes w her and love them both. She brought in the diversity perspective and gives you real life stories from other countries! I had an amazing time taking her classes. No books
The worst of the professors I have had at GVSU. I just simply did not like her. The class was easy, but she made it so you did not want to come. She grades you heavily on attendance to make matters worse.
do not take this professor, her exams are all short answer choosing 8 out of 12 and she gives you a lot of topics to study from, 12 geography quizzes, and 8 papers and its not even an SWS, her lectures are very dry and i had a hard time paying attention, offers pop quizzes for EC if not a lot of students show up DO NOT TAKE HER
Pretty good class. Tons of in class assignments but kinda fun. Her test are long but not horrible. A good amount of HW but not hard stuff. Could get by without the book
So much research and writing for a non SWS course. She's also not clear where to find info for it which makes it more difficult. No one shows up to class and it's pretty sad sometimes, I question why I'm there often. Don't take it if you don't need to.
Dr. Pope is great! She gives study guides and lets you know exactly what will be short answer questions. She gave 5 assignments that took me 30 minutes. She has 10 points extra credit for attendance (does not penalize you if you don't come). Also, she posts all her ppts on BB. Take her!
Pretty much everything you've read negative about her it true. She lectures directly from her power points which have been copied from other stories and not proofread. Grammatically they don't make sense. Lectures are at a 5th grade level while she sucks air through her teeth and waits for people to laugh. Try hard? Get a B. No effort? Get a B.
Pope is hands down the worst professor at GVSU. She has no teaching ability and it is almost as if critical thinking in her class is discouraged. She simply reads of slides and id rather watch paint dry than sit through another one of her classes. Tests are brutal and her jokes are even worse. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS
One of the worst profs. I have encountered at Grand Valley. Sure, she knows her stuff, but she has no clue how to teach it. I learned nothing. Her dry lectures made everyone fall asleep. SO MANY PAPERS. Should be an SWS class. Busy work all the time. Study guides are eight pages long so there's no direction for studying for exams. Absolutely awful.
Dr. Pope was fantastic! She is a fair grader. Super laid back and has a lot of life experiences that help with better understanding the topics being discussed. Lots of in class activities, and homework was not that bad. I'd take her again!
One of the worst teachers I have ever had at GVSU. I missed one class because I was sick and she called me out in front of the class. She is disrespectful and lectures straight from the power point. She rarely elaborates to the extent she expects for her exams. She is condescending and although she knows a lot, she is not an effective teacher.
Two tests: midterm and final, both essay style, 12 questions but you answer 8. She Lots of in class activities - quizzes every week and group work. Lots of homework papers. She gives extra credit basically just for showing up and drops two quiz grades. She's entertaining and is not as bad as other reviewers say, though she does get repetitive.
If you go to class and at least try, you'll do perfectly fine. Almost all of the credit comes from in-class activities. There is only two tests which are essay style. Offers a little bit of extra credit. She's very laid back and covers the basics in class and the rest of the test concepts can be found in the book. Would recommend!
Her personality kind of reminds me of Melissa McCarthy. She tries to make class fun and has a decent sense of humor. Lectures can get boring and dull though. Doesn't really go into detail enough for the exams (midterm and final) but there are enough points given out that those won't matter. Extra credit for showing up, 2 quizzes dropped. Good prof.
Kind of cringe worthy and a little odd, but overall not a bad prof. Lectures are mostly pointless. She mostly just talks about her experiences abroad and gives the same stories over and over. Very friendly though, exams are reasonable, good study guide but a lot of material.
Simply AMAZING. Had Pope for two classes this semester and I am happy. Gives "pop quizzes" that are simple questions you answer with your group and get the point just for coming to class. Decent amount of homework and a large project but overall teaches you a lot even if you aren't going into sales. She helped me negotiate my salary for my job!
Pope is great! This class was awesome because she has so much international knowledge. She is a tough grader but it helps you develop better writing skills. Weekly map quizzes that are pretty hard but if you study you'll be fine. Exams are short answers, given 13ish options, answer 8. She works with you and is easy to get ahold of outside of class.
Dr. Pope is an excellent teacher, well traveled and has great advice for multinational affairs and marketing. Lots of homework and in class activities, if you do the work you will be fine. Would definitely take again.
She's super nice... but it's sort of tough. Homework assignments are graded very harshly, so pretty much impossible to get a 100%. Lectures are mundane, but easy to follow. Two exams, essay based.... Textbook is pointless, DON'T BUY.
Honestly, avoid this class if you have the option. Pope has her moments here and there, but the majority of the time she has you doing a ridiculous amount of research for a non-SWS. Lots of group work, 10 papers for HW, weekly map quizzes. Two exams, essay-style, and they aren't easy, so make sure you just know everything, bc it's all fair game.
Based on previous reviews, yes there is a lot of writing. However, classes are not meant to be easy. Not sure why she gets such negative reviews because I look forward to going to her class every day. Don't buy the book tho.

Professor Pope's class was fairly easy. There are negotiations about once a week, so you definitely need to be in class. If you show up and do the work, it's not bad. Exams are all written which is pretty challenging.

Super picky on homework, will mark you down for things like writing numbers numerically instead of spelling them out. Seemed like she was looking to take points off... Lectures extremely boring and pointless. Exams also had a ridiculous amount of writing. Would not take again.
You can tell Professor Pope really cares about her students and she has the most interesting stories from her travels. The class is lecture heavy, she gives a good amount of homework and the exams are tough but Pope made it bearable. I recommend her if you are willing to do the work.
professor pope is very experienced in MKT. She does assign a lot of papers to write almost weekly. there is a group project over the course of the semester which isn't too hard just make sure to follow directions. weekly quizzes on the currencies and capitals.
I really enjoyed having Dr. Pope as a professor. Her classes were very interesting and tells you many stories about her travels. There is a semester long group project, but she gives you class time every week to work on it, it is also very easy. There are quizzes every week, which are also very easy as long as you look over the material.
She is nice and the group work is easy. But the class gets repetitive by mid semester by doing similar assignments all semester long. Then she gives ridculous essay exams where she will mark you wrong if its not excatly in her wording, even if the answer is right. You can do great on the group work, then your grade can be ruined by the exams.
Has more homework in a week than all my other classes combined. Group work every week but extended holidays. Tons of writing for a non-SWS class. Expects you to have lots of marketing knowledge when MKT 350 not required
I had Professor Pope for Multinational marketing and it was my worst experience at Grand Valley in 3 years. She assigns 3 assignments a week with 2 of them taking a strenuous amount of work. Requires all work to be cited and will dock half your points if you don't cite in text. More work than my other 4 classes combined and a picky grader. Avoid.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. I took this class as an elective, and I have regretted it since the day the class started. She assigns several papers though the course, and grades them extremely hard. Several points will be marked down for simple things such as forgetting to capitalize a word, or other small things. Save yourself and do not take her.
Dr. Pope was ok, but the amount of homework given was kind of insane (I'm not usually the student to complain about workload either). There were readings, lectures, individual assignments, an individual project, as well as a group project. With all of that being said, don't take this class if you have a job because you won't have a social life.
The information in her PowerPoints and lectures are very helpful and useful. But she assigns a lot of work and unlike other classes her assignments are due on tuesdays. Theres a lot of group work, every week we had group assignments as well as individual discussion posts and assignments. Tough grader in test and essays.
SHE IS THE WORST PROFESSOR IVE EVER HAD! She assigns an absurd amount of homework and papers and is an extremely hard grader. She will mark off many points for silly grammatical mistakes like writing 5 and not five. The exams are impossible. She provides zero guidance or expectations on papers that end up taking all day to complete. DON'T TAKE HER
Terrible professor!!! She assigns so many assignments every week, and there is a group project every week. The group work is always due on a Tuesday which makes no sense! Having two days to coordinate with your group and finish an assignment each week is difficult. The exams and papers are literally impossible and she grades them extremely hard.

Every Professor I have ever had wants you to succeed. Pope is an exception. She majored in English in college and everything she grades is directly related to that. Its almost like shes out to get you. She has made it impossible to earn an A. The workload is also ridiculous. I am doing this as a favor to other students. Dont take her
I have NEVER had a problem with a professor besides her. She didn't give me credit for a group assignment I did, after I PROVED to her I did it she sent me the most RUDE and UNPROFESSIONAL email I have ever received, especially from a professor. Also hw heavy, grades hard, exams are impossible. She also disclosed private medical information. BAD!!!
The MOST busy work I have ever been given. The homework is not tough, there is just so much of it. I have never written one of these reviews before, but this is certainly the worst professor Ive had during my time at GV.
Hard grader (will take off points for small grammar mistakes)- can be annoying but I was still receiving an a or b so can't complain. Lots of group activities & mini presentations that come off as "busy work" but is also easy points. She has online exams that DON'T require lockdown. I would take her again she's nice and better than other profs.
Horrible professor. Grades absolutely ridiculously. You could spend 10 hours on an easy assignment and still get a bad grade because she feels like it. Doesn't grade based on quality of your work, she grades based on what she wants to give you. weekly papers and group assignments and journal entry's. Would never take again.

This professors grading system is quite ridiculous, she doesn't grade easy and if you mess up one small thing it will tank your grade. The quizzes are easy but they don't pertain to the material being studied. You need graphic design skills or your group and your grade will be tanked. This is not an SWS course but its writing workload is large.
She grades like a 400 level English professor, marking you down for the tinniest instances of improper grammar or typing out "8" instead of "eight", while her tests and assignment instructions are littered with typos. Class periods are useless as she just talks about personal experiences overseas that will not be on the exam. Very boring and rude.
This was the hardest class I have ever taken in college! There are group projects due each week, on top of reading the textbook, doing discussion posts, 3 page min homework assignments, weekly map quizzes, and watching lectures. My group had to correct her when she docked us points even though we were right on HW. I would take any other professor
Prof. Pope gets a bad reputation and I'm not sure why. There is a map quiz each week which literally consists of four questions, and a journal entry with the occasional 2-3 page paper. She really values citation and sources, but this class isn't difficult. Prof. Pope has a ton of stories from living abroad that are pretty interesting/funny too.
Sooo much busy work, more than I have ever had in a college course. Granted the work is pretty easy but she is a stickler for taking points off for stupid things. Enjoyed hearing her stories and appreciated the casual environment.
Pope is okay. Knowledgeable. You WILL have to do a ton of writing, including weekly journals, group assignments, and 2-3 pg HW. Beware: Pope is a MISERABLE grader. She's hugely hypocritical; she'll take off arbitrary points for spacing/grammar errors when her lectures and assignments are littered in mistakes. Not worth the effort to take her.
Worst professor ever. Never have I had to report a professor to a dean because how unprofessional, disrespectful, disgusting she is. I honestly don't even know how she still has a job. GV needs to do better because she is ridiculous.

this class has SO MUCH BUSY WORK. You have 3-4 assignments a week that are EACH 3-5 pages. She is very strict on attendance and will not let you get points if you miss class without an email. she is a hard grader and marks points down and the exam was all short answer with 10 questions that had 4-5 questions within the question. save ur sanity
Definitely picks and chooses who she is going to like and dislike, and it's rough if you're on her bad side. I had a rough semester with a lot of personal problems popping up and she had barely any sympathy or grace.
Too much busy work. I have to say this was in the top three classes at GVSU where I had dramatic amounts of work. Would not recommend. Group projects almost every week along with homework assignment papers which can be 6-8 pages in length and are not intellectually stimulating and just plain out not necessary. Please take another professor.
Class is all based on her reading power points off the board, weekly homework assignments that are all papers, weekly discussion post and weekly group projects. Very very tough grader on all assignment. Hardest class I have taken at GV, I do not recommend taking this prof. Exams are all short answer with not enough time given to complete the exams.

Pope is passionate about her travel stories and content as a whole, but lectures are in-depth and boring. Notes are important for exams but hard to stay engaged. Weekly homework (paper), quiz, and journal entries, along with a group project that is RESEARCH heavy due every single week. Manageable class, but just so much unnecessary work.
Every day I have class with Bay Max, I inch closer to the grave. Her incessant rants about taking time off makes me wish she would take a "sabbatical" to hell. She puts no effort into class, I've seen Stephon Hawking walk around more.
If you're a fan of long, boring lectures, exams with 10 written, LONG ANSWER questions on them (timed), 3 HW assignments weekly (usually at least 12 pages of writing), and the miserable feeling of "Why am I spending hours of my day doing this?", then this is a good class for you. Otherwise, AVOID AT ALL COSTS. I IGNORED RMP AND REGRETTED. TRUST ME!
Worst exams I've ever taken. Takes way too long even if you know the material and you also have to know past HW to complete it. Lots of research papers every week, that includes the group assignments. Pope herself isnt bad, I personally liked her lectures, just get ready to actually do some research. She isn't a tough grader if she sees you tried.
Dr. Pope means well, but her lectures were unorganized and quite random. The only saving grace for knowing what was going to be on the exam was the textbook. Exams are open note, but they are timed and they are extremely long and time-consuming. There are lots of mini-presentations in the class, but she seems to be a fair grader.
Professor Pope is a great professor who wants her students to do well. The homework can be a bit heavy some weeks but overall incredibly manageable. I found this class to be very relaxed and she brought back chocolate each time she went to Germany! This was a fun class that I recommend taking for an easy A.
Dr. Pope is passionate about her travels and shares many stories in class. She also has a very organized blackboard page that often allows you to work ahead. That being said she is a VERY tough grader. She would take points off for ridiculous things. The way she would organize the homework assignments was also HIGHLY confusing she was not explicit.
I ignored the reviews on Rate My Professor and regretted it. This class takes as much time outside of lecture than my other four combined. I spent eight hours on a homework assignment and still got under a 90 on it. I have no idea how anyone can get an A in this class. This will be one of my worst grades at GV and not for lack of effort.
Unable to deliver clear instructions, can't properly type or use the correct form of grammar. Asking for help through emails just trying to understand the instructions is a waste of time. We must spend hours researching and doing homework, then later receive a 70% on them. Exams are stupid too. Avoid taking MKT 359 with her at all costs.
