Lectures are boring. Lab attendance isn't required. Class is very structured.
The lectures are plain boring, but she does provide students with study guides for all the test. Which not a lot of teachers do, I did not take a test in class until I took this class and I feel like I have learn more this way because I would memorize the study guide questions and I was so prepared for the test. You must study in order to pass!
Lectures are long with hardly any clarification. Might as well not even try studying for the tests because you will still fail. You basically have to teach yourself the material and hope for the best. Do not recommend her class
All I did was sit and text during the lectures and waited until like a day before the test to study and I got a C for the semester so I didn't really do much but her PowerPoint's were about 50 slides sometimes more.
Great teacher. Knows her stuff, cares about her students. Always available to help. Material is difficult, but she explains it well. Labs are fun. If you come to class and show some effort, you will do fine.
Good teacher. Offers extra credit and makes study guides for every exam. I came to her with questions before every exam and she was very helpful in helping me understand the material. She is always very quick to respond via e-mail and happy to help her students. Exams are a little difficult, but the study guides help a ton.
Gives great study guides! As long as you study them you will do great on the exams!
This class was over-all ok. The exams are hard but with that being said Professor Ravinskas gives you all the material you will need to know for the exams. It is just a lot of material to cover in such a short period of time. Good professor, hard class !
Very good
Gives study guides for exams, which are very thorough - but doesnt teach you material. Basically reads off the powerpoint, which you could do yourself.
This professor is very easy going but is able to convey the material clearly. She is very clear on what will be on the exam and provides a study guide and power points with the answers.
This professor is very easy going but is able to convey the material clearly. She is very clear on what will be on the exam and provides a study guide and power points with the answers. She also provides an extra credit opportunity if you miss an assignment.
I loved how she answered any of the questions and encouraged the students to understand the subjects that we were learning.
All material given on study guides are on the exams. Lectures are basically her reading off of the powerpoints. Labs are mandatory for credit.
Lectures are taken word for word from text but tests are easily laid out within given reviews. A bit on the dry side some days but all in all not a bad course.
Very lecture heavy. Take notes
It was alright.
I'm just too dumb for this class, teach is a cool gal.
Great teacher for someone taking the course just for the required credit. Lectures do get boring sometimes but it is biology.
She is nice and fun to talk to. Lectures and are and can get boring but the study guides help a lot for the exam. And she grades exams well. Lots of partial credit. And the best part is each exam has 10 extra points. So you can get 110 out of 100! You definately must study for this class as Bio can get heard.
She cares about her students and she's really inspirational
The class was not bad but the lectures were very dry and it was hard to pay attention. The review sheets for the tests are the best part and if you study them you will do fine. The lab is easy, the tests are the worst part is you don't study
Lectures where very long and hard to pay attention to. Do the review sheets, it will help you so much no test! Labs where fine and easy.
Reads from PowerPoint's/textbook.
Professor Ravinskas is an awesome professor, and I would highly recommend taking her BIO 101 course at Germanna. She gives amazing lectures, is passionate about her subject, cares deeply about her students, and teaches in a way that will help you develop a deeper understanding of biology. She is an outstanding teacher!
Professor Ravinskas is a good teacher! Always ready to answer your questions. She reads directly off the powerpoints. She isn't the kind of teacher who jokes around, etc., but she gives easy grades and a ton of "extra/partial credit", plus exam review sheets for her tests. If you want an easy A and are willing to read info-packed chapters, take her.
I thought Professor Ravinskas was great. You can tell she really enjoys teaching and really gets into her lectures. She's super sweet and cares about her students. She's really good about sending emails to students about changes in class and provides study guides and chapter lectures online. I highly recommend her as a Bio teacher.
Professor Ravinskas is great! The class itself is challenging yet simple as long as you listen to lecture and complete your labs. The exams are slightly difficult but all information comes straight from her lectures which she makes available online and also provides a study guide with the same questions as the test! Overall, a great class!
Long lectures, but it's bio, what do you expect? Lots of labs, my class did over 10 easily. Lots of grades both online (one or two online a week) and lab assignments. Drops lowest test (except the final), homework, and lab. so that's really cool. All around a great professor, would absolutely take 102 with her if it fit my schedule.
Great professor, lots of power point though. Clear instructions, and the labs are easy and informative. I liked this class a great deal, would defiantly recommend this professor. Note: this is not an easy A. Work is do-able but i would not say it,s a breeze. Also if there is extra credit take it. There are not a lot of extra opportunities.
I think the lecture powerpoints shouldn't be word for word right out of thextbook and if it is, it shouldn't be read directly from the screen. It's easy to follow that way mentally but attention wise it's very hard to focus.
This professor is very knowledgeable about biology and as a result, she goes pretty fast during the lectures, especially towards the end of the class. I would suggest printing out the powerpoints or taking a tablet to class and take notes on there. Tests are exactly like the study guide and attendance is worth 15% of the grade. Do the pre-labs.
She's a really good teacher. Her lectures are long and somewhat boring but she allows laptops. She reads her power points in the lectures and explains them. The power points have the answers for the tests. If you don't do well on the tests then you won't pass. You must study to pass the test. She is willing to help you and is understanding.
She isn't a tough teacher but her lectures are long and boring. She's nice and well enough but paying attention isn't something anyone does in this class. It's easy to pass so long as you study a bit and participate in the labs.
The class is really lecture heavy, but she does give you breaks. You don't use the textbook but you do use the lab book. She gives you a review sheet for each test. The test are really easy if you study the review sheet. She is really nice and is willing to help you.
Very long lectures read directly off of powerpoints, which were then put online, so no real incentive to learn in class. Tests were very difficult. Labs were fun for the ost part.
I love how her lectures are easy to follow and really help me absorbs the material. She teaches in a way that allows students of all backgrounds to learn.
There are a lot of lectures in this class, but there is a lot of material to learn. I felt like learning the material was very easy in her class, and she makes the lectures very easy to understand.
Lectures are long and have a lot of information which makes it hard to take notes. Although the slides are on blackboard you still have to show up for class to get the attendance.
Professor Jennifer Ravinskas is very helpful. She follows the schedule on syllabus, she provides test reviews so you know what to expect on tests. She knows her subject very well and willing to help if you need it. Attendance is a grade so show up for class!!
Ms. Ravinskas gives very detailed and in depth lectures on the subject matter we were covering. At times it was difficult to follow her lectures because of the amount of new information presented during her lectures. I feel that she did not need to provide so much depth.
Really cool teacher, very reasonable person, you just gotta do the work. Always answers questions that are asked and gives a study guide that is practically just like the test. Best teacher I've had in a while.
Professor Ravinskas is a very easy bio 101 teacher!!! There are MANY opportunities to improve your grade because there are a lot of grades in the grade book. No homework. The tests are just like the study guide, but you do need to study. Drops several lowest grades at the end of the semester. lectures are long, but the 15min breaks made it easier.
Great teacher! i enjoyed the way she teaches. The review guides match the exams perfectly. labs are interesting and not too long. prepare yourself for long lectures but not that bad. definitely would take again!
Lectures are a lot of information but she is incredibly knowledgable and has no problem answering questions during class or sitting with you after to help you.
lectures were long but very informational, exams were easy... if you study. if you are willing to put in the work there is no reason to not get a great grade in this class.
She was an okay teacher, not the best or the worst. Very nice and helpful when sick/missing class. DO THE TEST STUDY GUIDES OR YOU WILL FAIL. They are exactly like the actual test, although I think 20 short answer questions is extremely excessive.
Great teacher, very easy going, and really friendly. Will help you if you have any questions in or out of class and is quick to reply. Does take a while to get your grades back. The hardest part to me was the short answer questions on the test but if you half-way understand you can get a decent grade.
The lectures were pretty long, but the tests are exactly like the study guides. She is very caring for her students.
Great class
Professor Ravinskas is a great lecture and is very knowledgeable or the material discussed in class. She is very helpful when it comes to answering questions and helping with labs and other homeworks. I had a great time learning in this class.
She is awesome! she makes Bio fun. I definitely recommend her. Just go to class, do the pre- labs, study guides, and lab questions and you'll do great!
She is a good teacher, Make sure you study everything in the study guide that she provides. Do not forget to take the pre-lab because she won't give you a second chance to take it. the lectures are long.
Very lecture and powerpoint heavy. She gives out study guides before the test and if you study hard you will pass all the tests with an easy A. Labs can be tedious but they are not difficult. I would recommend her to everyone.
I would definitely recommend Professor Ravinskas. Her class is an easy A as long as you do your work and study for the tests. She gives you a study guide for each test and is extremely clear with the information that's going to be on the exam. She gives the opportunity to earn over 100% on each test and drops the lowest test grade.
She's got a great personality. She's super funny and incredibly smart. Her class isn't tough but her exams are all about memorization which for some people, like me, sucks. It's not a bad class just be prepared for almost two hours of no class interaction and just power points.
Great Professor super sweet and knows her stuff. There is always extra credit available on the tests. She holds you very responsible for keeping track of your grade so keep that in mind. I would take this Professor again. One thing i would say is that if sitting through long lectures is not your thing this might be tough for you as it is 3 hr long.
Professor Ravinskas is knowledgeable, kind, and more than willing to help or explain further if you are not understanding the material. She drops the lowest exam grade out of four (the final exam cannot be dropped), the lowest pre-lab, and the lowest homework grade. I highly recommend Professor Ravinskas to anyone looking to take BIO 1O1 or 102.
Overall great teacher
My only problem with this class is the lab textbook, which features many "check your understanding" questions. My lab group and I were not able to find many of the answers within the textbook, and we were told to Google the answers. The lab instructions themselves were usually unclear.
Professor Rainskas was very kind and helpful all term. Clearly interested in the subject and willing to answer any and all questions students had. All notes available on BB which was a huge help. Accessible outside of class. Labs were always interesting.
Easy class, as long as you show up, take the pre-labs, and labs. lectures are long but noteworthy.
Not a fan of the lecture period but she's pretty neat. Would take again.
Not a fan of the lecture period but she's pretty neat. Would take again
Best Bio class ever. Its never boring, she always has the best lab. Even though the class is about 4 hours depending on how long the labs are. Its really worth your time!!
She is a great teacher! Very clear standards, great study guides, and very happy to answer questions and explore ideas with the class. I highly recommend her. Just show up to class, listen, participate, and for the love of all that is science do the easy 10-question pre-labs.
Very straight-forward and competent in her lectures, which is very nice. However, if you have issues paying attention in the lectures, then you gotta make sure you look over the textbook and look at the powerpoints, as those two places are where the test materials come from. I cherish the pre-labs as well.
She lets you know where you are standing and tries helping you to get a better grade. Mrs. Ravinskas is very direct with the way she grades and sticks to it. She is very open to letting you know what you are doing wrong and how you can make it better. She is not very hard, and if you pay attention in lecture, you'll do great.
Super nice, has long blonde hair (that makes Biology more interesting). Will be taking her 102 class in the Summer or Fall. There should be more outdoor field trips in Biology, maybe instead of doing a indoor lab go out to the Rappahannock River.
Lecture can be long, but I learned a lot in this class. I wish I would have taken Prof. Ravinskas for BIO101 because she is very straightforward and clear about expectations. I'm not great at science but I ended up doing very well. The tests are like the study guides and the prelabs aren't too bad; answers can be found in lab book.
Overall a great teacher just needs to learn a better way to explain lectures instead of just standing in front of the class and just ready the notes from the powerpoint to the class.
Overall she is a very good teacher. The labs will definitely be entertaining and keep you interested. But, most of the learning portions stems from heavily lecturing, which I personally don't preference to towards to well. She is a pretty lenient teach, and very fair and respectful. She gives out study guides before exams as well. Good Teacher.
She is really helpful. If you want help all you have to do is ask. She is relly nice and caring. You get graded for attendance, pre-lab(like 10 easy questions before each lab), the actual labs, and the tests. The lectures are pretty boring, but if you do the review you should pass the test no problem.
Her lectures are filled with information and only half of it you really need. Also do the exam reviews and test should be easy.
Professor Ravinskas is an awesome teacher will drop the lowest grade on test prelabs, ect. As long as you do the study guides because they tell you exactly what you need to know for test. Don't buy the text book for the powerpoint have what you need to know, but get lab book. wish I had taken for 101. Would totally recommend taking her teacher
I took a ten week class so it was pretty intense, but she posted all her power points online for us and her study guides were great for preparing for tests.
Professor Ravinkas is very knowledgeable and helpful, it was a lecture heavy class but I found it to be pretty interesting. She provides breaks and throws in a joke here and there about how bad kale is, so I think she's pretty funny as well. Extra credit was available throughout, the labs were fun, and the study guides were incredibly helpful.
Although you get attendance points, showing up to class is not needed. She gives out study guides for every test (but she doesn't give the answers) you just have to go through the powerpoint she'd use in class. Labs are important, you should attend labs. The prelabs mostly coincide with the lab book. The bio102 textbook isn't needed at all.
Professor Ravinskas is a fantastic instructor. She's obviously passionate about the subject she teaches, and is very knowledgeable. The initial amount of information given in the lectures can be staggering, but she keeps it engaging and is very clear on what is expected for exams. Would absolutely take again.
Professor Ravinskas is passionate about her field and it shows during class. She is always willing to answer questions and explain topics further. She is professional and treats her students with respect. Her lectures are long and informational, and the Powerpoints can be found online. She usually allows a 15 minute grace period for attendance.
Overall, it was a pretty easy class if you show up and do your work. The prelabs were all straight from the lab book, and she always tells you exactly what's going to be on the exams. The lecture can get boring at times but it seems like she genuinely cares about how you do in her class.
one of the better teachers to take
I loved this class. The lecture portion was long but she tried to break it up a bit and I definitely learned a lot. The lab portion was hands on and usually pretty interesting.
She gives study guides for the exams! What I found that helps is start a study group with your lab partners. I took her Bio 101 as well she's a Wonderfull teacher and I definitely recommend her.
Lecture is boring, but she is the smarted professor I think I have ever had.
Labs are easy, grade is mostly based on tests. If you use the study guide then you should do fine.
I overall liked this course except for the fact that the lectures were pretty boring, but lab was fun and it was something for students to learn.
Mrs. Ravinskas is a very easy going teacher. Her labs are easy to follow. There are only 2 lab reports for the whole semester. The lectures are a bit long and boring, but if you reread the chapters from the textbook on your freetime to catch up, you'll be fine. The tests are suupperrr easy. She also responds to emails within the same day.
This class was my favorite one this semester. It can be lecture heavy at times, but she'll add stories/jokes in there to make it better. One thing I really enjoyed was how organized she was, and how all the deadlines were laid out without any surprises. She's always willing to help, and overall this was a real enjoyable class. Would take her again!
Overall, a great organized class! Would take again.
I throughly enjoyed her class. She showed videos in class that helped cement whatever we were learning in a visual way. She was respectful to students and very fair. She gives a study guide that is exactly the same as the exams and if you simply fill them out and go over them it makes the test taking experience a breeze. Definitely recommend.
Very clear on expectations.
very helpful and funny
She drops the lowest grades and she knows what she talking about
She is great and really loves what she does! Attendance is 10% of your grade, so show up on time! She also gives a lot of details in her PowerPoints and has them available to you at the beginning of the semester. Wish she taught more classes!
Good professor, not overly difficult. Lenient but definitely not a push over. If you study, do work on time, and come to class you should be fine.
I thoroughly enjoyed her class. The tests were easy as long as you filled out the study guide, paid attention in class, and put in some effort studying. Her lectures can be kinda boring but she's very nice. Offers extra credit and drops one low grade for exams and pre-labs.
BIO 101 with Ravinskas was not difficult. The class was well structured and went directly from the syllabus. Labs were basic and can be done quickly and well if you have a good lab group... you'll succeed in the class if you show up for labs and study for the tests (all test questions came directly from study guides!!!)
she is awesome
This class is for sure passable, lecture is straight lecture. If you come to class you will pass. Just study for the tests and you will be perfectly fine! I would for sure take her class again.
Enjoyed my Bio 102 class - broken into lengthy lectures and usually brief hands-on labs to follow. Keep up with the lab homework + pre-labs and you'll be fine. Also, the tests aren't too difficult, just study and memorize the study guides and you're golden.
She is very nice, but lectures are tiring. Labs are easy but she grades them hard. Exams are easy only if you complete the study guide and memorize it. I mean complete memorized (4-6 pages). She was so much better than my last BIO teacher. I recommend her if you are serious about Bio. I learned a lot.
I liked her class. She followed the syllabus throughly. The assignments were not heavy. She dropped the lowest grade on each assignments plus exams which is a plus. Provides exam review sheets which is wonderful. I absoultely recommend her to take. She's awesome
She gives study guides on black board for up coming tests. This is extremely helpful because its a lot of information being giving to you in class.
This class does require work and regular attendance. Grades rely on exams, prelabs, and labs. She provides great study guides for the exams, and the prelabs are easy using the lab book. Her lectures are easy to listen to and interesting.
Prof Ravinskas is really sweet and nice. To me, she makes Bio easy. Most grades rely on the tests and labs, which are not too bad. She grades attendance so, you do need to show up for class. She provides great study guides for tests, and her tests are exactly like the study guides. I will definitely take her for 102.
She is a great professor and I did learn more about studying and taking notes in her class. She answered any questions I had in class and attentive to students. I would not miss class though because she grades for attendance. Also do the study guides because they are helpful with tests!
Professor Ravinskas is a really great professor! She is extremely knowledgeable about the material and gives you all the info you need to pass with an easy A, as long as you show up to class and study for the tests. She provides excellent feedback and gives out clear/concise test review that gives exact info on what to expect.
She is a very nice and great teacher. The labs and homework are easy but you do have to study for the exam. she only gives 2 lab reports and she doesn't grade them heavily as long as you follow the lab report rubric. Biggest thing is to study hard for the exams but overall the class is easy.
I love the way she sets up her class, I took her for BIO 101 and decided to take her again for BIO 102. Her class is super organized and if you do the work you will surly pass.
This was my second semester with Prof. Ravinskas, and she is the best professor I've had. Lectures can be a bit long, but she keeps it interesting. Everything is laid out, so you always know what to expect. As long as you do the assignments you'll pass. She gave me a love for biology I never knew I had, and I definitely recommend taking her class!
I'm not a fan of Biology but it was what I had left to graduate. Professor Ravinskas made my experience a whole lot easier in this class. Test are straight from the study guides she gives you. As long as you do them, you shouldn't have a problem at all. Extra Credit is offered so take advantage of it if you chose to do so. Overall, she's a great.
I enjoyed the lectures. I got answers to any questions I had. I was given comprehensive study guides and overall the class was great.
Mrs. Ravinskas was great! She really dumbed things down if needed and really made a terrible subject bearable. I'm taking her 102 class in the fall! I'll only take bio with her!
Very understanding professor, gives extra credit, lab are on online. gives study guide for exam
A great class and such a nice teacher! She truly cares about her students and as long as you put effort in the class you will do good!
Lecture was a little dry but overall it was a good class and lots of information.
The professor is a very nice person. She helps a lot whenever needed and is very kind. She makes the hard work easier to learn.
Very sweet and nice professor, pay attention to the lectures and definitely study for the exams. She provides review guides on blackboard to help you review for the test. I would recommend taking her to anyone!
She is a good person, very easy going and chill and always provides study guides for tests. The only issue I faced was that she only ever read off of her PowerPoints for lecture, so I never learned anything. She was very monotone and didn't make the class fun or entertaining or engaging to learn. Besides that, she isn't rude & it's easy to pass.
Ms. Ravinskas is great
She is a great professor. I did not do well in Bio 101 and in her class I got an A. There is a lot of work but if you do it you will be fine. 10/10 recommend
The lectures are long but overall an easy class. She gives you a study guide beforehand and EVERYTHING you need is on it. Just do it and it makes the test easy. Also, her tests are 15 multiple choice and 10 short answer. Homework is done as a group which makes it really easy. Easy class and nice teacher, would recommend taking her Bio 102.
I loved this class! Get ready to get your hands dirty because there are a ton of interesting dissections. There are a lot of small assignments that could be easy to loose track of but as long as you stay organized and work on the study guides this class is a fun, interesting way to get an A.
Long lectures and pre-labs are due before almost every class. Labs are pretty cool and involve a good amount of sketching what you're looking at or dissecting. She is very nice and a good teacher. She knows her stuff. I would recommend taking this class!
Prelabs due before class. Lab sheets are worked on as a group which is nice. 4 tests and a cumulative final. Lots of opportunities for extra credit. Fill out the study guides, you'll get an A on the tests. Professor is really nice & approachable.
Professor Ravinskas is a great professor. She does give out a good amount of homeowork, however it is not an over load. I am usually not good at Biology but I did very well in this class. Her study guides are exactly whats on the test ! She gives extra credit opportunities. Did not use the textbook but did use the lab book! Very great professor !
She is a great professor. She is easy to communicate with and wants to make sure you understand to content. I highly recommend her class.
I had Professor Ravinskas for Bio 101 and I loved it so I took her again for Bio 102. Her class is very easy if you actually do all your assignments. She is very friendly and helps you with all your questions- both in person and through email. She also gives study guides for tests and the tests are literally the study guide, which is plus.
Great teacher explains material well make sure you study with her study guide all of her questions will be on the test.
Professor Ravinskas' lectures were not ordinary because she had students participate at times. The lab's however were unorganized, but her class overall was not too hard and solid. She also provided the class with exam review guides through BlackBoard a week prior to the exam which contained everything that was asked on the test.
Professor Ravinskas is a very interesting professor and does a great job with the lectures. Exams are fairly simple and consist of a multiple choice section as well as short answers section. Overall, she is a great professor, very understanding, and does a good job at keeping the lectures and material interesting
Professor Ravinskas is a great professor and keeps the lectures very interesting. As far as testing goes, are fairly simple and follow the study guides. She is a very caring professor and makes the material easy to understand. Overall, a great professor.
Very easy going professor! Come to class, do your lab work, and do the test study guides and you will be fine! Didn't really need the textbook for lecture because she uses power points that are very straight to the point. I really enjoyed her class! Easy A if you do your homework and USE THE STUDY GUIDES!
She is a great teacher, very easy going and clear when she lectures. Her class is super organized so you shouldn't be stressed about keeping track of everything. Study guides are life savers before you take the test. Rarely used my textbook because her powerpoints do the job fine. Easily would recommend!
The professor is very clear in the lectures. Labs followed what the lectures were based upon. Study guides were very helpful before any upcoming exams.
amazing prof. very organized and helpful. Loves what shes doing which makes the class more fun
This class is easy as long as you show up and do your work. The professor is really great and she is well organized and sticks to the syllabus throughout the semester. Plus the material she goes over each class can also be found on blackboard in her powerpoints. She also is passionate and is knows a lot about the subject, which makes the class fun.
Great professor with clear expectations. Provides study guides for exams. Go to class and do homework for an easy A. Didn't buy textbook and still did pretty well.
The lectures normally do take up the whole lecture period but they're useful for exams, she posts the ppts on blackboard. The labs are done with three other members and the review questions can be found right in your book as well as the homework questions. Just do your hw and study for exams with her study guides and you'll pass.
A great professor who is patient with her students and the textbook helped me out with the pre labs.
The reviews are exactly what the tests will be, so as long as you pay attention to them you'll be fine.
Easy to reach, quickly communicates with the class about schedule changes, gives you a couple opportunities to get extra credit. Labs are quick and easy, you do the lab in class and do all the paperwork at home. Your labs are done in groups so your able to split the lab questions up with your group members.
She's a good professor and listens to feedback.
Overall the class was fun.
Mrs. Ravinskas' class was absolutely amazing. Attendance is mandatory, but her lectures are easy to understand and her classroom environment is very fun. She gives extra credit and wants all her students to pass. You do have to consistently do homework, but it is manageable. I absolutely loved the class and the professor and would recommend it.
My one problem with this class was that the lectures felt so heavy, but overall Mrs. Ravinskas is an outstanding professor who is passionate about Biology and truly cares about her students.
Mrs. Ravinskas course included long lectures, short labs, fairly easy material as long as you completed exam study guides and memorized it. She's very nice and always open to answer questions and assist if needed.
Though she moves through lectures pretty quickly, she gives you all the tools to pass. Do the study guides they help A LOT! The lab work is done with your group so you can divide and conquer. She doesnt accept late work. She'll drop your lowest exam and pre-lab grades at courses end. Text book is optional so save a few bucks but buy lab book.
Her exams only have like 30 total questions (about 15 multiple choice and 10 short-answer) the short-answer questions are worth more points than the multiple choice. Thankfully though, the study guide short answer questions are word for word. Advice for the pre-labs: do them ahead of time, and might have to use Google alongside the lab book.
Its an upper level Biology class so don't show up and goof off. The instructor really cares about what she is teaching and it shows. There is also a study guid for every test and if you take half an hour to make a simple outline you will do just fine.
Its a very easy class as long as you do the homewok and pay attention to the power point. She gives study guides for the test, so fill them out, study them and you'll get an A.
She is a solid professor and she is extremely passionate about her field of study. The class is pretty hands on, online pre labs and group labs. Exams are a little tough but overall the class was a good learning experience
Bio is really hard for me but she was always willing to help me with anything I didnt understand
She is a wonderful professor! While the tests are tough, she does prepare you well and includes a study guide for each one. Prelabs are due before each class period, these and labs are the main homework. Overall, I would recommend her as a professor!
This professor is not for working adult. If your jobs is only come to class and study she a good professor. But if you have a family and have to work to meet your end meet she is absulately not a good professor to understand your problem. I will never ever took any classes with her again.
Professor Ravinskas is very passionate about her line of work. This class is very much group oriented- labs, and reviews, so make sure you sit around individuals who are willing to work. She also creates test reviews before the actual test with the information. Study hard and take notes during the presentations!
Be prepared to come to class. The lectures are good and will help you on the tests. Amazing study guide. Very helpful teacher. Labs arent as good as the lectures. The prelabs are stressful and harder then the tests.
Prof Ravinskas is very knowledgeable about biology. The textbook is not needed but lab manual is required. All test are multiple choice with short answer but come straight from the lecture slides and exam review sheets! DO them! They're short and focus on exactly whats on the test. If you turn your work in and do the exam reviews you'll pass.
Not a hard class so long as you do the study guides and actually study them you will get an A. I suggest doing all of the pre-labs early on so you don't have to worry about them. Final exam seems a bit lengthy so definitely do the study guide and ask questions. She is available during certain hours so take advantage of it and ask questions.
Study the study guides and you'll do fine on the tests. VERY lecture heavy and honestly super boring. I've fallen asleep multiple times during this class. If you don't do good on tests you'll fail.
Lecture heavy as previously mentioned, but how well you do is in your hands. As long as you put in your time studying and pay attention you'll be fine.
At first I hated this class, and I failed the first exam! But come the 2nd exam (there was like 5 exams) I was in the flow and got A's and B's the rest of the class. There are a lot of assignments in this class but I ACTUALLY learned Biology. You can't just coast through in this class, but once you accept that, It's fun! And we got to go outside!
Professor Ravinkskas was definitely lecture-heavy which could get pretty boring at times. She clearly knows the material and wants you to know it as well. Overall, the class was pretty easy. Just make sure you use the study guides (part of which comes directly from the PowerPoints) and you'll pass the exams. Also, she drops the lowest regular exam.
Good class overall. Syllabus is clear and easy to understand. I like how we have quizzes before class so we can review the topic before class. She also gives review sheet before every exam, and you will find in the exam similar or same questions like in the powerpoint "Checking your understanding".
She does take attendance, but it counts for a grade at the end of the semester, so its an easy grade. She gives reviews for her tests, so if you review those you should be good. I only used the lab book, the other I didnt touch at all. The labs are done in groups which is a plus. The final is cumulative and she cant drop that grade.
She is a great professor and I would recommend her to anyone. Coming from someone who doesn't really like biology, it was my favorite class this semester. She isn't boring which is a plus because 1+ hour of the class will be lecture. The labs are fun and interesting. As long as you fill out the study guide, you'll be solid for the tests.
Rarely shakes up routine, you will be beaten to death with lecturing
Professor Ravinskas was a pretty good professor. The study guides for exams were helpful. If you take the time complete those youll pass the exams no doubt. The thing I didnt like was how unorganized the powerpoints were, she also went fast through slides so there wasnt time to take notes. If you just want to get the credit and pass, take her.
She is a great professor. She does make you work for the grade. Attendance is very important in her class. To pass the class you have to study especially for the test. However, they would be a study guide for each test and as long you study them you should be good. For the labs, make sure your choice your group members wisely.
Very nice and pretty organized. If you just put in a decent amount of effort it will be an easy class, I would recommend her.
She is a really. good instructor, knows what she is talking about. She is lecture heavy, but gives out the study guide-- these are word from word what will be on the exam. As long as you do it and study the short answer on the guides its an easy pass for exams.
Loved Professor Ravinskas. She is so passionate about what she does and really conveys that in her lectures and her relationship with her students. She is more than pleased to meet with you for feedback and her study guides before the test are so helpful (USE THEM!!!). Highly recommend taking her course!
The lectures are very long (2+ hours) so you may find yourself falling asleep. She gives out exam study guides so you know what is expected to be on the exam. The "textbook" needed is the lab book. A typical week for hw consists of a few pre labs and ch reviews for labs (groups). If you do the work and pay attention/ study you'll earn an easy A.
She is very knowledgeable in the study of life. :) pay attention and get to class because you wont wanna miss out!
Professor Ravinskas is very knowledgeable about this course and it shows! She is very passionate and actually cares about if you learn the content. Do the study guides and study them, and you'll be just fine.
Professor Ravinskas has boring lectures that can be hard to keep up with. The major thing that can bring your grade down is the group lab assignment. She loses track of what has been submitted, it's best to keep records of what you have sumbited to avoid getting a zero for the labs. Her exams are not hard if you pay attention to the study guide.
she's a great teacher and is a very easy class
Fair to all students and always willing to help.
Professor Ravinskas is a great teacher who cares a lot about what she teaches. The class isn't very hard as long as you study for the exams. She'll give out study guides which will help you prepare for them. It is a good class although lectures could be more interesting.
The first half of class is all lecture, then a quick break, and the last part of class was doing a lab. There are pre-labs you must submit before 9am on the day of the lab so keep those in mind. The textbook is not required but you must have the lab book. The study guides are so dang similar to the exams you would be dumb to fail. Take this class!
Professor Ravinskas was a great professor! Be ready for working in groups on labs, daily Pre-Lab homework assignments, and finishing lab assignments at home. There is a lot of homework, but it helps you learn the material. If she is sick she has class through Zoom which helps you not miss any material. She really cares about the students and has EC
Class is interactive and keeps you engaged. Easy to communicate with.
The first part of class is lecture and then the second part is a group lab. The labs are graded heavily on the lab chapter review so make sure to take your time doing them. There are 4 exams but she gives exam reviews to prepare for it, so do them! Overall she is a great teacher and you will learn a lot.
All information needed is in her powerpoints, no need to buy a textbook. Everything is organized and planned which makes it easier when doing labs/homework. Not a super heavy workload but be prepared to have homework every night (labs from class)
Very knowledgeable and insightful. I loved learning from professor Jennifer!
very insightful professor
Due to covid-19, all classes have been moved to online. I was nervous at first to take this course online because biology is a complex subject ,but Professor Ravinskas was very helpful. She answered any questions we had about the material and allowed us to use our notes on the exams.
Amazing teacher, lectures are easy to follow through with powerpoints and she goes over materials if needed. However, the exams/test make up most of your grade so one bad test could bring you down a lot. Tests are open note, but sometimes it is unclear what information you actually need.
She allows late work with some points off. Finals week was loaded with work. Zoom call time was not established before the start of the semester. All tests were open note with lockdown browser. Overall a decent class.
Textbook was optional for online course. The lectures are long but I had the option of watching at my own pace. She was available to ask questions and very to the point with exams. I really liked taking her class, and I learned a lot!
I took this as an online class during the pandemic. It was semi easy. The labs are super easy and normally easy A's that take longer than 20 minutes or so to complete. The tests are open note and mainly come straight from the powerpoint but you still need to study a lot because tests are timed. She holds zoom lectures but they are not mandatory.
Professor Ravinskas is really dope. She has a very good attitude overall and she makes the material relatable and easy to understand. Although I was technically in a face to face class, this was during the pandemic so everything was online. She has really great lectures and posts them all online to view after class is over.
With this being an online course, it was much more difficult than it would be in person. I would have liked for the professor to be more accommodating and understanding of peoples circumstances during a pandemic. But overall, it wasn't a bad class.
Broken down by weekly modules. Lectures on zoom once a week (optional but helpful). Labs are due on your meeting day by 11:59pm you get a week to complete your assignments due each week so its easy. There are 4 lecture exams & a final exam w/ respondus all open book/notes. Easy class if you do all your work and use the PPTs on the exams to pass!
Taken during Covid, Jennifer was awsome, as I did want to take this class in person, she did her best todo online labs and make it fun and educational for everyone. I would take her class again, but you DO have todo your work, But you don't have to show up.
Professor was nice, friendly, and helpful. Exams were open note and the finals were open book as well. VIrtual labs were kind of a mixed bag. Some were very short and simple while others were much more involved. Lectures could get pretty lengthy at times, too, but she has the slides and recordings available on canvas.
Great instructor. A lot of work but so far as you put in the effort and do your assignments and, on time, you will pass the class. She will take points off if you are late. No excuses.
Great professor, readily available to talk and explain things you. Exams are open book which helps a lot if you are me (hard to remeber). However, Lab work is loaded but is a good way to earn towards your grade. Whatever you, do not be late on your assignments else you get 11 points off daily. No excuses whatsoever.
I had her for the fall semester during the pandemic, shes a good professor. I slacked off a lot during this class and still managed to get a good grade. Its nice because all the tests are open book/note. Attend the lectures, read the book, do the check your progress questions and youll be fine. Just dont let the work pile up, get it out the way
Had Ms. Ravinskas during the pandemic so everything was online causing it to be more difficult. Shes a great teacher, tests are open notes and she offers extra credit at the end of the semester. You do have to complete all her work with good grades and obviously pass her tests in order to pass the class.
I had Professor Ravinskas Online due to the Pandemic, but this course was still not extremely hard. The lectures are a bit heavy at times, but are not mandatory to join, just remember to email her so you get your participation points! Exams are all open note and there are a lot of assignments, but if you stay on top of everything you'll do good!
I took Professor Ravinskas online BIO 102 class. There is a lot of work, but it is manageable. The exams are open note and book, but are still a little tough. Some of the labs are way longer than others. Other than that, she is a great professor and you will succeed if you do your work!
Took her class asynchronous, she's amazing in that she gives you options for how you get your participation grade. Definitely a lot of reading if you don't do the lectures. She's super sweet, but email her as far in advance as you can when you really need a reply-- I ended up with varying email back times, sometimes after deadlines I asked about.
I really recommend her! She was clear and all the exams were open note. I took the class during the pandemic and I found her work load to be manageable. TBH the only reason I didnt get a better grade was all on me.
Professor Ravinskas was a great teacher, she gives you plenty of time to complete labs, open note tests, etc. which is super helpful during this time. She is very insightful and knows what she's talking about!
Professor Ravinskas is a great professor. She explains everything in great detail and that helps me out specifically because I like to get the full information when I am learning something. I would highly recommend her to anyone taking BIO102. The class is heavy on lectures. My class was three hours long, but a lot of info is shared.
The professor is Great you should definitely take her class. Her lectures are pretty good besides the terrible audio quality videos she plays (not her fault but be wary headphones users). The exams are OPEN NOTES for all exams, but be wary there is a TIME LIMIT of 75 minutes so If you know you are not good with that, now you know.
The lectures and presentations throughout this course include lots of text and words as a teaching style, which I personally did not find very helpful to my visual learning style. The lectures did go in depth about the concepts as well as occasional videos for examples of concepts. Class times are also very lengthy and participation is graded.
This professor is extremely knowledgeable. Exams are open note, but I did not find her teaching style beneficial. If you are an auditory learner this course might be for you. 2-3 hour lectures and a lab or two per week. If you are not a test taker, do not take this course, exams are 40% of your grade and will ruin your grade, unless you do well.
Took class online (pandemic). Professor is available every week during lecture & again during office hours. Lectures held in Zoom and professor is available to answer questions and clarify the material, attendance isn't mandatory. She posts recorded lectures afterwards so you can watch them whenever. Tests are all open book/notes and easy.
Although Ravinskas is a nice professor, she is hard to get a hold of. Throughout the semester, I had questions or needed help on several occasions and could not reach her. She would always say to message or email her but then wouldn't get back to students. Other than that, her course was okay. It also contained a lot of assignments though.
There is A LOT of work due each week( way more than your other classes)
Literally the worste professor ever. She never answers her emails and when she does there bland and give no help. I had a 98%, got a 55% on the first test and it went down to a 72%. Her assigments and labs are worth nothing, I have 100% on them but because im failing the tests im failing the class. Shes literaltt the worste.
The workload for a simple 102 class is extremely heavy, way more than your average class. Also, a few hour lecture and long PowerPoint slides each week. Exams are worth 40% of your grade and the other assignments don't even help out your grade, everything else is like 15%. Exams are also shortly timed. Wouldn't recommend at all, horrible professor.
Gives ZERO feedback for any deducted points. Doesn't respond to comments or emails. Removes absurd amount of points for not having sources. Adds the sources. Removes absurd amount of points for not having sources in the "CORRECT" format. This is ridiculous, it is a biology class not a lit class.
real heavy workload for a 100 level course, too many lecture videos (often times 6 hours of videos a week). doesn't grade fairly or give proper feedback, if any at all. easy class overall for an academic achiever but wouldn't take her again....
Professor Ravinskas class is extremely work heavy for what it is even if there are 3 assignments for the week be prepared for them to be in depth and take up a lot of your time, I took 5 classes this semester but this class had the most work. Grading Criteria was not clear and took off large points for citing mistakes, lecture videos were long too.
