Mrs. Rice is really nice and helpful but if you aren't in to the environment and just want an easy science class then take physical geography or something like that. This class wasn't what I expected. I thought I would pass this class with a high A and it looks like I'll be leaving with B.
This class was very interesting and I learned a lot, but the test are hard. Not what I expected. Test are tricky. Not an easy class.
I was told that this would be an easy class for non-science people. My advisor was wrong! This class was really hard! Her test questions were vague and her study guides didn't really help. It also didn't help that the TA that she had for the class hardly knew what he was talking about. I wouldn't take the class. I had to fight for a C- in the clas
The lectures in this class are easy and Dr. Rice is really nice. BUT the tests do have some nit-picky questions on them so study your facts hard if you want an A. Besides that, Jenn is super understanding and helpful if you go to her. She wants her students to do well. The honors section of this course doesn't have anything to make it "honors" easy
Do the reading, come to class, pay attention, you will do fine. Dr. Rice and the TA will help you if you come to them. We watched 4 or 5 movies in the class, which she promised would be on both sides of the political aisle, but all were, of course, extremely liberal. Good teacher, but very naïve and idealistic.
Overall Rice was a nice enough teacher, but presentation of the class material was relatively unengaging, which made it very hard to pay attention. I don't mind hard work, but this was a class where I was never quite sure what the professor actually wanted from me. Pretty much the only thing I got out of it was a physical science credit...
She did a very good job at delivering the material. The tests are not hard if you actually take the time to study. Very interesting class
GEOG1101 really nice, ppl didnt do well on first test, but i did and i really liked her class even though im not interested in human geography, gives study guides that help a lot and wants you to understand the concepts, not just memorize info. If you come to class, skim book, and take good notes the class isnt hard. only 1 film assignment was hard
Tests are tough, but not if you study. Read the book, go to class, and take decent notes, and you will easily have a A in the class. There are 5 film assignments with EASY questions. That's 25% of your grade, so go to class. The tests are multiple choice with 2-4 short answer questions and the TA pretty much accepts anything. TAKE THIS CLASS
she is kind of crazy, talks way too fast, and does not understand her own material. there are video quizzes that the TA graded insanely hard and no one enjoys this class.
Tests aren't easy. They require a lot of thinking and a lot of application. The TA is ridiculous at grading film assignments (there are 5, each worth 5%). She talks really fast, so be prepared to type REALLY fast when taking notes.
shes really not as bad as the people say, the things on the tests are the exact things she talks about during class. just skim the book to get a clear understanding of what she talked about. she doesnt offer extra credit, the only thing i didnt like about her class. i still got an A though
Shes really enthusiastic about this class and always wants to help. Her lectures are kind of long but there were only 2 examsfinal, all were multiple choice. Her tests aren't too bad if you study. 5 unannounced film assignments, so go to class. No extra credit. The TA holds review sessions and is very helpful and a fair grader. I recommend her.
Professor Rice is such a sweet lady. Sometimes she just doesn't know how to get her ideas across. In a class of somewhat vague concepts, her descriptions are sometimes difficult to understand. Tests are pretty easy if you pay attention. 4 Film Assignments where you show up, watch a movie, and answer some easy questions. That's 20% of your grade.
makes the class very interesting. sweet lady
My favorite professor and class. Super easy. Could not believe that I got an A on every test and only studied a day or two. Film assignments are basically free 100s and i changed my major to geography because human geog is so interesting. Take her! She's so sweet.
Dr. Rice is such a great professor. Her lectures are clear and to the point. Tests are simple and very straight forward. Class was very basic level knowledge and not difficult to grasp. Enjoyed the film assignments and would recommend her as a quality professor.
Dr. Rice talks a mile a minute. She loves what she is talking about and is very passionate about her class, however it was very difficult to keep up with. 3 tests including the final, and 5 random film assignments and she drops the lowest one-- to keep people coming to class. Tests are multiple choice and you are given a study guide.
Dr. Rice is a very passionate lecturer. The class can be long, but the content is interesting. She explains concepts well, but does tell students when they need to supplement her lecture with readings from the book. Go to class, take notes, and skim the book before tests. The film assignments are easy. I would definitely recommend this class.
Honestly, this was a boring class because it was so incredibly easy. Show up to class everyday and skim through the test review right before the test. You should get an easy A.
Professor Rice is one of the nicest professors I've had at UGA! The class is really easy and she is super passionate about the material. She is so understanding and willing to wok with you if you need any sort of help! Definitely recommended her!
Rice is incredibly nice. Her class is extremely easy. Take notes, look over the night before the test and you'll do fine. There are NO papers and 3 tests. The final is the last test so minimal studying is involved. She gives 5 film assignments that she does on random days; these act as xtra credit. Go to class for chances of bonus points!
Dr. Rice is an amazing professor, she really makes content understandable and interesting. Light studying is enough to get A's on tests as long as you go to class. There are 5 in class movie quizzes that are great grade bumpers as long as you don't miss them!
The tests and pop quizzes take up a majority of the grade. It is a intro level class so it isn't too tough.
Such a sweet professor who really cares about the course work and the students. The tests are hard! Definitely need to spend time studying and take good notes! The notes ARE online but she tests over examples said in lectures. Not really extra credit but there are some 'extra' grades.
Dr. Rice is an amazing lecturer. Her lectures are interesting and easy to comprehend. Class isn't mandatory but there are surprise film days that account for 15% of the grade, the test are also based mostly off lecture and the book. She gives out information in class that isn't available on the online lectures or the book as an incentive to come.
Great class. Just keep up with assigned readings and COME TO CLASS and you'll be fine. Non-mandatory attendance, but random film days and slides/tips for tests not posted online should be enough incentive to come. Besides, lectures are really interesting and even though this is an "easy" course, you will still learn a lot!
Pretty straight forward class. There were 5 films days and she drops the lowest score for those, 3 tests and no final. I read over the notes and skimmed the book before the test and did pretty well. Not a difficult class at all.
Overall solid class which is all lectured based. Mostly easy content but only hard thing is there are only 3 test which count for 85% of the grade. So if you do poorly on one you are in trouble. However, the last 15% of the grade is an easy 100 if you show up to class. Solid teacher who is passionate about the subject and will meet with you.
Dr. Rice is very funny and bubbly, but her class seems to drag. The hour and fifteen minutes that we were in the class seemed like an eternity. She posts the PowerPoints, but they are very vague, and that holds true to her explanation, as well. Since the material seems so similar, the vagueness makes it hard to understand.
She's very nice and the class is easy. Take her and get an A for minimum effort.
Dr. Rice is super nice! Don't expect an easy A in this class though. The tests are VERY hard. I studied so hard for them and never did well. The lectures always seem to drag on and on for the full hour and fifteen minutes. Beware of the film assignments- 5 unannounced through the semester that you must be there for.
She's very enthusiastic about teaching and she knows what she's talking about. Lecture slides are online, but will have certain slides only available in class. Does about 5 film assignments throughout the semester as a way to boost the grade. Only 3 tests (including the noncumulative final).Teaches what you need to know to pass the tests.
She's kind of annoying. I took this because I thought it would be an easy A but the tests are actually kind of tricky and you do have to work for it. As long as you read and come to lectures you should be fine, but Dr. Rice got on my nerves. She ALWAYS talks during the movies she shows and she complains about having to lecture a lot. Not the WORST.
She talks way too fast to ever write anything important down. It was 3 tests and 5 film assignments. You have to show up to class for the lectures because she says things that aren't on the powerpoints online. Take heynan because hes easier
Dr. Rice is such an awesome person and a great teacher. She's straight-forward and understands that none of us know anything about the topic so she explains really well and in-depth. BUT her tests ARE SO HARD. CONFUSING AND HAS SO MANY TRICK QUESTIONS!! says "its not about getting 100's its about learning" but I get C's and am not learning
Such a hard class to be a general requirement course. The tests are super tricky, and each question has either all of the above or none of the above - you start to question everything you've ever known. I would avoid this class unless absolutely necessary.
So Dr. Rice seems to know her stuff and she is pretty nice but she talks too fast to take good notes. The subject is not the most interesting. I thought this class would be an easy A but the 3 tests are tricky and it is kind of aggravating to work your but off and get a B+. She has 5 films you watch that boost your grade a little.
Easy class. Put in any amount of effort and make it to most classes and there's no problem. I only got a B beause I was taking tough classes and put this on the back burner. She's an entertaining teacher, knows her stuff and is very organized.
If you show up to this class, pay attention to her, and do the study guides, you will definitely make an A+ in this class. Anyone who says otherwise was not paying attention during lecture. Come to class, listen, and you won't have to study. Tests are very comprehensive. Dr. Rice talks fast, so typing notes will be best. Easiest class at UGA.
Eccentric and nice. Easy class if you just pay attention
Show up and listen. I love Dr. Rice
Really nice teacher but test are very difficult. They are biased off her lectures so you have to go to class if you want to do well. There are also film assignments throughout the year that can effect your grade if you miss them. I was hoping that this was going to be a fairly easy class but I had to put in a lot more effort then I was expecting
Dr. Rice is an awesome professor. She manages to keep her lectures interesting often and is very clear about her expectations for the class. Take notes, study, show up for film assignments and you'll get an A.
Dr. Rice seemed like she would be easy and tells you that the class and tests are a piece of cake but they are not. She talks really fast and its hard to take notes. She is not specific on what is on tests. Her tests are really tricky and confusing and hard to do good. She pushes a liberal agenda while saying that she doesn't. Take someone else.
Her class is very lecture heavy, but the book is sort of optional. I only read the book for the first test and then gave up realizing I barely need the book. She does give film assignments that are essentially pop quizzes for her class. They are really easy and should be an A.
Such a phenomenal teacher! She is a human version of the textbook so if you take VERY detailed notes of almost everything she says then the book isn't needed. She shows movies that you need to attend for incentive to show up. She is very passionate about what she teaches and lecture is organized and she shows videos in lecture for breaks.
A pretty easy class. The lectures are very boring, but it is important to go because she gives random pop quizzes. There are only 3 tests so it is very important to do well on them
5 Movies, go to all of them for credit, tests are 85% of grade
Dr. Rice is nice and helpful but her tests are very tricky. Tests are very lecture heavy but also need to read the book on your own some. She gives you a study guide for each test which is helpful, but you need to study outside of it too. The test questions are very hard and easy to do bad on.
Extremely boring lectures, Extremely easy class. Must attend class for pop assignments
Professor Rice is one of the sweetest teachers on campus. She cares for all of her students and anything they may need. Her class is lecture based, and attendance is not mandatory, however, she has 5 random film assignments to encourage attendance. (She hints when.) Tests are pretty straight forward if you do the study guide. Easy class if you try.
Dr. Rice is awesome. As long as you show up to class and pay attention during lectures, you should get a relatively easy A in her class. She's awesome. Only thing is she sometimes speaks fast when doing notes, which she's aware of and is trying to work on. Occasional film assignments in class that are interesting and just show that you were there.
Write down every thing she says and what's on the board, and you won't need the textbook. Her test are word for word what she says in class. Her class is very organized, and she'll tell you what you need to know, I wish more teachers were like that..
Prof. Rice seems nice but her class is very boring. I mean she tries to make it interesting by including films. There is never homework, only 3 tests and 5 film grades. This class isn't so much hard as it is tricky. 85% of your grade is based on test, so you have little room for error. This class is more about ideas and analysis so be prepared.
Dr. Rice's lectures are straightforward and easy to listen to. She tried to attempt using Turning Point but she gave up after a while. 5 in-class film assignments where you just watch and answer questions - 35% of your grade. 3 multiple choice tests - 65% of your grade, no final.
This is a 4/6 class meaning there were 7 people in the class and only two of us were undergrads. Dr. Rice assigns 1 or 2 readings every class that can take a while to read and we dissect them in class the next day. The small class size was nice because it is a discussion based course. Only a few writing assignments for grades/particip. Nice grader
All texts are pretty lecture-based so you need to go to class. She only has 3 tests and no final. She does have 5 film assignments & drops your lowest one. All in all, she is extremely lecture-heavy except films. She posts the PowerPoints but very vague and adds in-class summary. So, again, you need to go to class for the tests.
Attendance is mandatory, but go to class! Her lectures are straightforward, and often include information that she will not post online, but will be on the test. Also, she has random film days she wont announce ahead of time, but the assignments are graded, so you don't want to miss those! The tests can be confusing, but the class is fairly easy.
Overall, Dr. Rice is a good professor. You can tell she is passionate about what she teaches. Just show up and take notes, and you'll be fine. Random film assignments throughout semester are easy way to boost your grade. Sometimes she is a little too strict on assignments, and will give exams at times that are inconvenient for everyone involved.
She Is Funny ! I love when she gets off topic and talks about her son. She is genuinely a sweet lady who understands that we are in college. The class itself is interesting but sometimes can be boring but that doesnt mean you shouldnt take it. I went to sleep sometimes in class but still made at least a B on exams. Notes are straight forward.
Go to class and take really good notes. Most of your notes will be from her powerpoint lectures, which she posts online. She also posts a study guide before each test. There were 5 in-class film assignments which were super easy (35% of your grade) & 3 multiple choice tests (65% of your grade). Study your notes & you'll be fine. Also, no final.
Beware of pop film assignments that count for a large part of your grade. They are easy, but she doesn't tell you when they are happening, so you have to go to class. Take a lot of notes during class, copy down what she says, not what is on the screen.
My favorite professor freshman years; take her. Easy class.
Dr. Rice was a great professor. Her class was interesting and I enjoyed it. She tells you to read the book but you really don't need to. I used it for study guides but that is it. Write down what she says IN ADDITION to what is on the slides. Her tests come from what she says out loud. She is so nice and cares about her students.
attendance not taken, but pop film assignments that help your grade if you go to class. tests aren't hard, but class is based on what she says more than what is on the PPTs/textbooks so you kinda need to come to class to listen to her. but really nice teacher, she cares a lot. she uploads study guides for tests. not much work, easy w some effort
Dr. Rice is easily my favorite professor at UGA so far, she cares a lot and knows what she is teaching very well. Attendance is not taken but there are five random film assignment days where you must be in class to get credit. Go to class and take very detailed notes of what she says that isn't on the slides. If you do this you will get an A.
Probably the most entertaining professor out of the Geography department. She has an amazing personality that fits in with her passion in the subject of Human Geography. Test arent hard if you do the study guides and focus on what she talks about in her lectures. Im a transfer student here and I got lucky with this professor.
I thought she was great for Human Geography. The lectures were interesting and easy to listen to, the tests were 50 questions multiple choice, and there were 5 random film assignments for attendance. Do not miss more than 1 assignment because you are graded on few things & really listen & look at the study guides given.
I learned a lot in this class. Dr. Rice has a great sense of humor and makes lecture interesting and fun. There are a few slides in lecture she does not post on eLC, so you better attend class or get the info from a classmate. Definitely study for the exams.
not an easy A class!!!! You have to come to class to get important notes because she doesnt post them all online. Test questions can be somewhat tricky. Not as easy as everyone makes it out to be.
While attendance is not mandatory there are 5 random film assignments, one does get dropped. If you go to class and take notes on what she says during class, you will be prepared for the test. Don't have an accumulative final just a third test during the final time slot.
Rice is great! She goes over the material that you need to know and explains concepts well. She has film days so people come to class but drops your lowest film assignment if you miss and provides study guides for tests.
Professor Rice is very excited about geography!!! haha!!!! (who knew someone could be THAT enthusiastic about geography?) Sweet lady, not a stressful class. 3 group projects, 4 tests, and in class film days make your grade. If you go to class ur good.
She doesn't put many words on her powerpoints, but she repeats out loud word or for what you need to know and write down. Lectures are super easy to follow, and she is very caring and one of the best professors I have ever had. Definitely reccommend!!!
So sweet and caring! Very passionate about human geography and this makes class so interesting. There are 3 tests, 3 group projects, and 4 random film days, which are your incentive to come to class. As long as you come to class and take good notes in lecture (she goes fast, but always makes sure you know what's important), this class is an easy A!
Dr. Rice is a great choice for GEOG 1101. There are very few assignments so make sure you study for the tests ( 3 tests make up 60% of your grade. ) None of the tests - Even the final- are cumulative! The class is an easy A if you take good notes during her lectures.
Professor Rice's class was great! The material is interesting, she posts all of her power points on eLC (except a few slides to give those who come to class a leg up), and her study guides/lectures match up perfectly to the textbook. For the tests, there are only 3 and the last one is your final. For the projects, your group goes places on campus.
Lecture heavy teacher. She cares about what she teaches but also has a bias towards her opinion on controversial topics. Study guides are kind of helpful, but the test questions are much more in depth than what is covered in class. She also takes attendance 4 times randomly throughout the semester and you are only allowed to miss 1.
Dr. Rice is a great teacher, but her class was a little boring. The content she taught was very easy to grasp, but the tests were abnormally hard for how easy she taught the content. In her defense, she did say the tests would be hard. Definitely need to study for this class.
Dr. Rice is very passionate about human geography. Classes are mostly lecture, although she has "film days" where attendance is mandatory, but you don't know when they will be. I barely read my book and still ended up with okay grades on tests.
She is an amazing lecturer who makes the information and topics really interesting. There are only three tests and a Final so if you mess up on one of them, it is really hard to recover. She also has 10% of your grade based on film questions that you watch in class to encourage people to come. Study the study guides a lot.
Professor Rice truly cares about her students. For my FYOS class, she did a great job of making it not stressful and interesting. The only things you are graded on are a midterm reflection, a final reflection, and one 2 minute presentation about a topic you choose. She's great!
This class was 100% asynchronous so she just uploads lectures to watch once/twice a week, we have two (give or take) homeworks per unit, and three exams. No final. No BS. Exams are a little difficult but not terrible. Dr. Rice seems super nice, wish I got to meet her in person.
Dr. Rice is an excellent professor. Her tests make up the majority of the final grade and while they are difficult, they are not unfair.
I had this class online asynchronous. We had 5 assignments & 3 exams. The final was the 3rd exam non-cumulative. I love Dr. Rice! While we never met online or inperson, she always set up class zoom meet ups for any questions & test reviews. My biggest tip is to pay attention to the recorded lectures! Write down what she's saying not just the slide!
She is an angel! Super sweet, cuts class short often, and prepares you well for the exams. Definitely take this class with Rice!!
Dr. Rice is super nice and chill and her class is really easy. She is always worried people are getting bored so she always lets out like 20 minutes early. I would say that she is extremely bias towards her political views in the way she teaches the content even though she claims to just be presenting the facts and its for you to decide.
Dr. Rice is a super chill teacher, who will even build days into her teaching schedule where it is not required to attend class for notes. She is very clear on things she wants you to remember during lectures and does a good job making it easy for students to get the info they need.
Dr. Rice is overall a good professor and makes her class very easy. The test questions come straight from things she says during the lectures so if you show up you will do super well on the tests. Sometimes comes off as very biased, but if you can look past that this is a super easy core credit and GPA boost.
This is one of the easiest FYOS classes i have heard of and the easiest class I took. She does ask you wear a mask, but if you feel sick at all you don't have to go. There are two short essays and a small presentation, but you pretty much get an A if you do it. She even calls the class a "stress free class." Would recommend!!
I ended with a 92.25 and she would not bump me to an A. Other than that, the class is easy and she does not take attendance. The class is only graded by three exams (25%) each and 5 assignments (5%) each, so you have to do well on every test. I hated the class but shes not a terrible choice for professor
Knowledgeable. Textbook unnecessary, pay attention and easy A. 3 Tests 75%, 5 Assignments 25%. Remote attendance option. Well-informed, so she sometimes comes across as liberal (oh no). Does her best to make a boring 101 class fairly interesting. The kind of prof you want for a 101 class.
Very sweet lady and has a great personality. Her lecture slides are merely outlines- in order to do well you MUST pay attention to what she is saying instead of what is written up on the screen. Study guides are well written, Dr. Rice made what could be a very boring class somewhat interesting.
Dr. Rice is such an amazing professor! She truly cares about her students' education. You really don't need the textbook, but you have to go to lectures and pay attention to pass, even though attendance isn't mandatory. Study hard for tests! They're not that difficult but if you do poorly it can tank your grade. Dr. Rice is the best GEOG 1101 prof!
Dr. Rice is super easy to listen to in class. As long as you show up, you will not need to purchase the textbook as she hints what she will test you on. If you do not show up, there will be brief notes posted online which will not help you with the finer details that she likes to ask. There are few assignments that are easy to do.
I recommend this class. Dr. Rice's lectures were very interesting, and I liked how she related concepts to Athens. She posts lecture slides on elc but not everything is on there so you need to go to class. The only grades are 5 easy assignments and 3 tests on elc. I loved Dr. Rice as a professor, and the class was a low-effort A.
To be fair this class was not incredibly difficult and Rice was helpful. She definitely cares. However, she somehow manages to make a class about human Geography about communism. If you love having extremely progressive ideals shoved down your throat you'll love this class. If not, shut up and take an easy A.
Dr. Rice is kind, friendly, and very chill. Her grading scale is fair to students, her tests are well written, and she makes taking an online summer class a breeze. However, she teaches on elementary concepts that she puffs up with vocabulary. sometimes vocabulary that she does not use properly. Oh, and you might just leave this class a socialist.
Dr. Rice teaches a fantastic online geography maymester, if you're interested. I am doing very well in this class. Beware! She is communist, people weren't kidding. Karl Marx & his communist manifesto are treated as if he & it were some kind of heroic political theorist. its crazy y'all. She is totally unaware what communism in action DOES.
Professor Rice is extremely kind and accessible outside of class. 3 exams were online along with 3 discussion posts, 5 assignments, and there is an optional in person final exam. Power points are posted online but are not complete, you must go to class in order to get all of the notes. This class was fairly easy as long as you attend the lectures.
Dr. Rice does a good job of making the somewhat surface-level info presented in this course actually engaging. Her lectures are easy to follow, lively, and informative. She usually ends class a bit early, too. The tests are straightforward, multiple-choice and are based on lecture material. Final exam is optional!
it's clear through her lectures and workload that dr. rice truly cares about her students and wants them to succeed. you have minimal assignments in the class and the few you do have are extremely simple and straightforward. follow the directions and you'll make a 100%. lectures are mandatory but very bearable. 10/10 professor! :)
Dr. Jennifer Rice was incredible!! I really enjoyed taking her FYOS on Athens, especially as an out of state student. She cares a lot about what she teaches and is really accessible. Take this class!!!!
Good professor. The textbook is used constantly in the classroom, so definitely get it. Exams have some material derived straight from the book and not from lectures. She gives free days to catch up on work. Overall a nice person and a good class.
She was very nice and the content was not very difficult. Lectures are all posted online but she expands on the information in class, so you need to go to get all the content for the exam. We had many online learning days throughout the semester where you just watch a video lecture, which was nice. Overall a good prof.
GEOG 1101 could be an interesting class, but Rice got very political, making her extremely unlikable. It was difficult to go some days, but grit your teeth and take the easy A. Assignments are graded easy, but tests were more difficult if you didn't take good notes. You can't rely on the slides posted, so don't skip too much. Don't buy textbook!
She was nice and the class was very straightforward. 3 exams and a few assignments and discussion posts, as well as an optional final. Pretty much openly socialist but oh well.
Highly recommend her FYOS on the history of athens! I learned a lot but also didn't have to do much work. She says at the beginning of the semester that the class should be stress free. Just two reflection papers and talking about a current event for 2 minutes. Overall - interesting and easy A.
You definitely need to attend class, but her lectures are super interesting. She does not take attendance. She gives an optional exam that will replace a grade. Overall she had three exams and about 4 or 5 assignments that are super easy as long as you put in just a bit of effort. I highly recommend her!
Dr. Rice was a great professor who had great lectures and as long as you go to class you will do good on the test. There is a few homework assignments, but they're not bad and exams are pretty straightforward as long as you pay attention in class. Would definitely recommend you to take Dr. Rice for this class
You definitely need to attend to class because she will say things that are not on the slides posted online. If you take good notes of what she says, you should be fine. Her homework assignments were very easy, and we even had some classes where we just watched a video online and didn't have to go to class. Definitely has some political views :/
If you have to take GEOG 1101 take Dr. Rice!! The final grade is 3 tests (online), 5 assignments (completion only), and an optional final. She has "asynchronous" days where she posts an online lecture and there is no in-person class. You do actually have to go to lectures because most information you need for tests is not on the slides she posts.
Dr. Rice was an excellent professor, however if you have problems with tests, DON'T take this class. There are 3 test and each worth 25% of your grade and the other 25% is 5 assignments. The assignments were fairly easy and she has online-learning days that were extremely nice. You also have to show up to class to learn ALL the material.
Easiest A I've had in college, I realized halfway through that I didn't need to go to class at all to get an A. Gradebook consists of 5 assignments and 3 exams; the assignments are extremely easy, it's hard not to get 100's, and the tests are online but lowkey not that easy. She gives a handful of days off so that was nice too. Easy GEOG credit.
Dr. Rice was AMAZING! Her class is super easy as long as you go to class. There is an assigned textbook but I never opened it and only went to lectures and got a pretty decent grade. The exams can sometimes be tricky but all the information you could need is given during lectures. She also has study guides that help a lot. TAKE HER!!
Dr. Rice quite literally might be the best professor all around on this campus. From the first class, Dr. Rice made it clear that she was there for far more than to teach us about Athens. She is the most outstanding example of a true professor who cares deeply about her students. If you have the chance take her FYOS.
I took her summer online class which I thought would be very easy but it wasn't totally easy. Her lectures are amazing and have all the materials needed for the test. 3 tests with 50 questions each test weighting 25 percent. 5 homework making up the rest.
LOVE Dr. Rice, she is definitely a very passionate foodie and her FYOS reflected that. Would obviously take again and plus she's an amazing cook. love love loved her :)
I had GEO 3630 Urban Geography. Dr. Rice is a great professor who is very funny and cares about her students incredibly. I enjoyed her lectures even though she is pretty socialistic in her views and likes Karl Marx a lot which I disagree with. I would take another class with her again if I could because the structure of the class worked well for me
Dr. Rice is super her nice, but her class/grading is ridiculous. I got an A and two Bs on the exam, and I am ending up with a B
Dr Rice is great! You definitely need to go to class because exams are weighted heavily and most of the content comes from what she says in class. If you actually go and take notes it's an easy A. There are also 5 assignments but they literally take you 10 minutes and are easy 100s.
She is a pretty good lecturer, but 75% of your grade is exams. The study guides she gives help but don't always contain relevant/enough info. You can miss every lecture and still get a B with little effort. The book you buy is also extremely cheap (7$ used). It is not geography in the traditional sense. Do not come in expecting just memorization.
i love dr. rice! took her for geog and my fyos and i can definitely say that she is passionate and a great communicator! make sure you go to lectures because the tests are based primarily on them and she has digital class days (aka just watch a video on elc instead of in-person class...a lifesaver). make sure you do study for a tests to get an A!
This was an easy class. Dr. Rice provides great lectures but you need to come to class to understand them. All tests are online without webcams. Dr. Rice provides study guides for each test and has "mental health days" 3ish times throughout the semester.
Easiest class I've ever taken- the entire grade is three take-home exams and five assignments that each take maybe an hour at most. Lectures never went the whole 75 minutes, but the posted slides are pretty much empty so you do have to listen a bit. Textbook is there but I never used it and was fine, lowest test grade all semester was a 96.
Good professor, our class was very chill, we mostly dissected papers we read and did class activities re-enforcing concepts. Definitely read the papers before class, some are really dense. Graded on two take home essays, and a final research paper/presentation and your journal prompts. She wants you to do well. You have to lead the class once.
This class was seminar-style and very reading heavy. You basically showed up to class and discussed every day, but her method of leading the discussion kept conversation flowing. To get an A+ you really only have to show up, participate, and show that you critically engaged with the content for the term paper. Made me a better student all around.
Dr. Rice is great! The class reading is not burdensome at all, maximum 1-2 journal articles a week. Class is discussion and activity based, very supportive environment. No exams, just take home essays and a final paper. Participate and try your best, you will learn a lot and enjoy yourself.
Professor Rice's class is well-structured, with engaging lectures and manageable assignments. While exams are weighted heavily, using study tools like Unstuck study can help prepare effectively. Attendance is important, but the class is overall quite doable.
Easy but interesting FYOS class: Cultural Geography Through Food and Cooking. Great professor, like to yapp, made us great food, and a fun presentation at the end about our favorite foods.
Took her for Urban Geography, I regret nothing. Straight-forward but thought provoking assignments/tests, very understanding of students, and makes content VERY engaging. Just remember to do your readings, as they're VERY helpful. I could not recommend her enough, by far my favorite class this semester.
Dr. Rice is a great professor and all-around person. This course was not exactly what I had envisioned, and some of the content is very basic. However, she does deviate from solely lecture, and it makes the course a lot more interesting and engaging.
Dr. Rice is awesome and I really enjoyed this class because of her!
I took Cultural Geography Through Food and Cooking. Great class, watched documentaries and ate food she made. Final project was presentation on our favorite food.
Prof Rice is really amazing and does a great job a facilitating discussions. The class is like a seminar where you do the reading and then have discussions so if you don't want to read a lot or talk a lot maybe not for you. The Essays require critical thinking but she is clear on her criteria and gives good grades. Very hard to fail this class.
I cannot recommend Dr. Rice enough. Ive had her as a professor twice and she never fails. Its so refreshing to have a professor who is so passionate about their field. She gives amazing lectures, facilitates great discussions, and is always willing to help when needed.
I took Dr. Rice for a Maymester course to fulfill my Area IV credit. I would highly recommend her to anyone looking for an easy class that is also interesting. The tests are pretty straightforward. I do not think you should buy the textbook. The 5 assignments for the class are also very easy. All lectures are in a video format.
Took this during maymester. Watch the lecture videos and you'll do well in the class. I bought the textbook, but only opened it like twice, so I wouldn't recommend tbh.
Took this for maymester. Watch the lectures and you'll be good. There is a "required" textbook, but I wouldn't recommend buying it. I only opened it like twice. There were a few topics that weren't in the lectures, but could easily be found in a quizlet. Shes also very responsive to emails
She makes you stay the entire time for a test; even if you finish early, you have to sit there and wait. It's also a very lecture-heavy class with slides and she'll play a lot of videos during her lessons. Lots of documentaries.
Class is pretty easy, posts lectures on eLC but go to class for details. Gives study guide before each exam that lists topics/terms. Understanding and responsive to emails. Make a quizlet covering terms with examples and you'll be fine. Gives in-class assignments and sometimes extra credit for those who show up. Didn't buy the textbook and was fine
She is super nice. Exams are easy. Her lectures can be boring though. There is barely ever homework which is nice. She does not take attendance.
tests are in person now, on laptop. have to stay until everyone is done. idc for geography but she did make it interesting. i wish i took someone else since tests are weighed 70% and ive gotten high Bs and 100s on everything else but ill probs still get B+ in the class. GO TO CLASS! she did extra credit once for going. reading the textbook is ehhh
Dr. Rice is a great professor, but if you're looking to take a class for your humanities and WC credits and get an easy A I wouldn't take this class. You have to go to class to do well because she posts her slides, but not all the information you need to do well on the exams is on the slides. Test are closed note and are taken in the classroom.
An amazing FYOS! We learned all about the city of Athens and we even did a tour of downtown for class one day. There are not many assignments, its mainly two short essays and a group project. Not a class to stress about
Not a fan, do not take this class if you want an easy gen ed. Her class is super boring, and she changed the last test for everyone at the last second. Not cool!! So many better classes if you are not super into Geog or are required to take this course.
Dr. Rice is very passionate about geography and her lectures, although sometimes loooong, were interesting. We were graded on 3 exams and one optional final. I took her on T/TH and we never went a full hour of lecture. Somtimes she could get off topic and would lose track of what she was teaching but overall I really enjoyed taking her class!
Need to go to class to know anything, power points she posts are VERY vague. 75% of your grade is exams. The exams are extremely hard and confusing at times. We had our first 2 online and then the last she made paper because of cheating I guess. Personally I think she takes this course way to seriously for it being an 1101 class. dont recommend
Take Dr. Rice!! The most entertaining lecturer I had all semester. Go to class, and you'll know exactly what's on the exams since the content comes almost entirely from lecture. Dr. Rice is great with students and offers help if you're absent. I only used the textbook for quick reinforcement. We also ended class 10–20 minutes early most days!
This professor changed the syllabus midway through the semester. It went from online tests take home to online tests in person and the last test was in person scan tron. Was not as easy as expected as a "side" class that I thought it would be.
The lectures were pretty compelling to me, but I could see it not being everyone's cup of tea if you don't like geography. The tests aren't super easy but they aren't that difficult either, and the assignments are free 100s. DON'T BUY THE TEXTBOOK
Absolutely loved her class. She's so engaging & makes learning fun. There are 3 exams my lowest was a 95 & optional final. Exams weigh heavy, She hosts exam review sessions, & her slides are mostly pictures because she builds on them during class. Online assignments are easy 100s if you follow the instructions. Overall, amazing class and professor!
Had to take this for a humanities credit and it was a little more work than what I was expecting but not terrible. You grade is majority 3 lecture exams but if you go to class and review with Quizlet you will be fine. Attendance is optional but you should go to lecture, her slides are like basically blank and she says out loud what to write in.
Take this class!! I just took notes, did the study guide, and got As on the tests. Literally just attend class and study the night before the exam. There are 5 assignments, 3 exams, and an optional cumulative exam. I learned a lot and felt engaged the entire time. Dr. Rice is very interactive, personable, and she truly cares about her students.
Dr. Rice is an amazing professor and makes lectures so interesting. Overall there's few exams and fewer assignments so grades do matter. You can get by without the textbook that she recommends but if I could go back I would get it as it has material that's covered not in class but on exams. Attendance is optional but I would 1000% recommend going.
She is very sweet and enthusiastic, but this class is just low quality. She has very few grades that she puts in and her tests are not very easy. This class should be a free A in my opinion but she just makes it more difficult than it needs to be. Lectures are based on text book so you could not come to class and just read and be fine.
Professor Rice was very interactive with the class and her lectures weren't dull. The three exams and five assignments were easy if you gave just a day's preparation towards them. I'd recommend taking her as an easy A
Teacher is misunderstood & wants people to actually learn. The class is extremely interesting, but her tests are way too hard. She won't round up at all. Cumulative exam replaces lowest exam, grade replaces it, no matter what, notes can be difficult because she says notes almost entirely by voice & not the slides, so textbook is low-key necessary.
This class needs to be redone, she is a very passionate teacher but she makes this entry level class way too hard. She speaks outside of her PowerPoints at Sonic like speed and expects you to get everything. These things will be on the tests. Try to get another professor if you can, but if you can't be warned this isn't an easy class.
