I took nutrition food and you web deliviered. One of the best choices I have made at U of A take it.
Boring class, pointless lectures, useless notes. Discussions are only helpful if you have a good TA. Tests are extremely difficult and do not relate back to the lectures or assignments. However, it seems everyone ends up having to take this class.
God this class sucks. You'd think that a health class could be insteresting but the subject gets really monotone after a while. Ricketts isn't a bad professor though, she's better than the old fogey that was teaching this class last year. Tests have gotten easies but study up!
Lectures are the worst I have ever been to. Don't go, it's pointless to. Go to discussion but only because you get points for going. Do the assignments three or fours days ahead of when theyre due. Ricketts = BORING. TAs = Apathetic.

lecture is somewhat interesting but class is very difficult considering it is a gen-ed course, difficulty might be legitimized if course was part of your major, tests have tricky and misleading questions, to do well on assignments one must spend a significant amount of time, discussion is pointless
She dosen't know how to teach. Take the food nutrition class online. Never went to her lectures. Very hard class. I tauhght myself more then what I learned and remember stuff I learned from high school. I learned nothing realy.
She's really tough on tests! No matter how good of notes you take, go to lectures, or go to group study sessions..they will not work!!! it's impossible to do well in this class since she makes it impossible to understand and do good. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND NOT TAKING THIS CLASS!!!!!!
Hard! Do not take this course! Definitly hard for a gen ed. Tests are impossible to do good on. Online homework is fairly easy. You don't need to go to lectures except on Fridays when you get pts. Tests are hard b/c she picks such detailed questions. Do not take!
worst teacher i've had at the ua. her tests are impossible, but definitely not a hard class seeing as how she offers so much extra credit and the assignments are easy and worth more than exams. i averaged a C on the tests, but have a 95% in the class.
She is one of the worst teachers at the U of A. Her obvious uncaring attitude towards students and her work, is apparent in how she treats tests and one-one conferences. She was rude, and impossible. She made the tests as ambiguous and difficult as possible, don't take it. It's not worth your time.
Here's the breakdown: Ace the assignments (just look up answers in the book), CAREFULLY do the exercises so you don't **** up on the 60 point assignment, DO EVERY EXTRA CREDIT AVAILABLE, DON'T go to class and try as best you can on the tests. That all adds up to an A.
I took the online course and it was a frustrating experience. Ricketts did not seem committed to this job. Online assignments were frequently messed up. Also on tests, I would often get questions marked wrong that were in fact correct and I would have to visit her office hours. Tests tested on small details, not knowledge of the subject.
I took this class and got a B. Its really not that hard. I must admit though that the tests are kind of difficult except the final exam! STUDY for it! It was the easiest final i have ever taken. Dr. Ricketts isnt clear and its true just go to the friday class and do the assignments and you will do just fine!

Fairly difficult for a gen ed, but if you're not a moron you'll do fine. Take notes, Ricketts tells a lot of her test questions in lecture. Make sure you take your time on the assignments considering they are worth as much as the tests. Lots of hot sorority girls in this class trying to not be fat, kinda funny to see.
I hear things are different, but when I had her last year, it ended up being the easiest class. The test kinda suck, but then again, I suppose that's my fault. I never went to class and I never studied for anything, but I pulled out an A. But in all honestly, this class is annoying.
DO NOT ATTEND CLASS. Go every Friday. DO ALL EXTRA CREDIT. Ace all assignments and homework. Optional final is easiest i've ever taken if you save your old tests.
Just do well on the ASSIGNMENTS
such a boring class. read the book and go to dicussion. i'd forget about the lectures.
No need to go to class except the TA discussions on Fridays, becuase she does not take attendence and all notes are online. Do well on online assignments and study for tests. Check D2L online message board frequently. Course material was interesting.
This class is SO easy! If you attend the lecutures and study a good amount you will do well on the tests. She gives SO much extra credit!
One of the best professors i have had. she is very approachable. do well on the weekly quizzes and it prepares you for the rest of the material. LOVE HER GREAT TEACHER!
This class was very easy, especially if you actually attended lectures- the online quizes are open note, and she gives most answers in her lectures. The tests are cake, very easy grader, and lots of EC
I loved this course- not only is it interesting, but there are so many oppertunities to do well in it! Online quizzes are a breeze- open book, and the dietary analysis is a sinch, the tests are more difficult but doing well easily on everything else will balance it out! no exam if you are okay with your grade! :)
Assignments were done online, lectures were not mandatory, there was pop quizes for extra credit, notes were online. Overall, the class was easier than most, the assignments were worth more than the exams which is good if ur not a good test taker. Overall, easy grade, information was a bit much, but everything else evens it out.
This class was really easy, but I just didn't like it. The online quizzes were badly designed and frittered away points for little things. The tests seemed loosely connected to the material, as if they had been written for a different class. She is condescending and rude. When she made mistakes she suggested it was our fault for being stupid.
BORING. The lectures drag on and ricketts just seems so uptight and mean. The material is really easy, but tests and quizzess are poorly written, so they aren't as easy as you would think. ps. this class isn't as easy as you hear it is - there is quite a bit of work involved.
The lectures are boring. Take this class w/ a friend 1) to get you through the lectures & 2) to take the d2l quizes with. Not as easy as you might have heard from others....the test are difficult. Most people get C/Ds on them. Ocassional quizes (some for ec). Diet analysis=EASY. Study as much as possible for the tests. Kind of rude.
This class is worse than most gen eds I have taken. very impersonal...don't take if you want interaction with professors. She only talks at students in Lecture. Discussions are mandatory, but they are super boring. Go to lecture, you learn lots. Optional final. I didn't even need the last test for my "A" points. Piece of cake course!
Dr. Ricketts was one of the worst professors I've ever had. She writes PowerPoint slides from the book chapters and simply reads them off in class, not adding anything to the information. She sometimes doesn't even know what the slides mean. The TA taught me more than she did.
such an easy class
such an easy class. a lot of easy points that u get just by goin to class
Doctor ricketts just takes stuff out of the textbook and reads it out in class. i havent gone since the first 2 weeks of school. its a complete waste of time. the only point going to the lectures are the pop quizzes. everything else u can look up in ur book. the pop quizzes are 25 points of your total grade. also this class depends on your TA's.
Good teacher; she, without a doubt, knows what she's talking about. Lectures are really important to go to, especially if you dont want to read the book for every chapter because she covers it all really well.
The internet class is pretty easy as long as you remember to do the quizzes. She is a reasonable grader JUST MAKE SURE YOU DO THE ONLINE STUFF. I didnt always remember and it was pretty bad for my grade
Ricketts was a good teacher. She knows what she is talking about and it's not that hard to get a decent grade. Just do online work and she offers extra credit which can help your grade too. Oh also, final is optional!
Ricketts is a decent teacher. Not the most exciting one I've had but even the Honors course wasn't too hard. Just do the online quizzes and show up to discussion. Oh and she gives pop quizzes so it helps to show up to lectures.
Very easy class if you read the text and show up to class. Discussion is mandatory. Very rude and stuck up professor but gives many opportunities to do well in class.
This was my favorite class last semester. Its not that hard as long as you complete assignments on time and read the text book. There are a lot of opportunities for extra credit
This class was amazing. I am amazed how much I learned. I would recommend it to anyone.
She is a great teacher. If you come to class, take note and pay attention then you will do ust fine.I highly reccomend Dr.Ricketts
Shes a good teacher
I highly reccomend to take the online course. Tests every other thursday and quizzes once a week. Make sure to write down the schedule so you don't forget the dates because sometimes its easy to forget. It's great not going to class.
The class is extremely boring to attend and the assignments are useless. There is a lot of opportunities to get points and get a decent grade but the class and discussion are tedious.
I took her nutrition class my freshmen year, and she was really boring, but a very smart teacher. She knew what she was talking about. She never smiles, but the class is easy if you pay attention, take notes, and go to friday lecture. The classes are not mandatory, but she will give pop quizzes so I just went. Those quizzes can help or hurt.
this class is terrible, lectures are super boring coming from a very monotonous ricketts, really don't have to go to class because she posts her powerpoints online, must go to discussions because they are worth 10 points and sucks to get that taken away, oh and the 30 point quizzes due each week are so annoying. I thought is was a hard class
LOVED THIS CLASS!!!!!! EVERYONE SHOULD TAKE IT!!! AMAZING!
The Professor does not make the lectures interesting. Everything is reiterated from the book that you will have to purchase. There is a site that goes along with the site that helps out a lot with the quizzes. The tests are all multiple choice and she does have SOME extra Credit. There will be a couple of pop quizzes in lecture which is why att
Dr. Rickettes is a nice person. I needed her to arrange for me to get a notetaker and she dropped the ball. She tried to use HER method of recruiting a notetaker and it was a disaster. Having said that, she tried really hard to make her worthless system work so I give her points for that. If you need a notetaker go straight to DRC & involve them.
I took the ONLINE session. There are about 2 assignments a week, sometimes 3. Plus exams every other week. The actual work isn't hard at all. However you don't get reminders about assignments so if you don't do the assignments in advance it's a problem. I struggled to remember to do the assignments and after you miss 2 you're down a letter grade.
If you are looking for a teacher who will look you in the face with no emotion, and tell you that this class is the most important of all your other class. Professor ricketts is the teacher for you. I came in this class head high, but the long boring lectures drug me down and the useless her work didnt help too much.
take the online class it is the easiest class at the UofA guaranteed A and you spend 5 minutes a week doing the assignments
TAKE IT ONLINE! If you do the lecture class it sucks. She goes really fast in lectures and the tests are very hard. My friend takes it online. Much easier! Discussions are very boring also. Study and memorize everything for the tests.
Grades fair and helps alot
Dr. Ricketts is a disaster!!!! She posts her notes online and they don't go along at all with the lectures. Her notes are very frustrating because they are disorganized , hard to read and understand. If you can take this class online or avoid it at all costs!!!!
This class is very boring but lecture is not mandatory. Just keep up with discussions and the online quizzes. The tests are hard but if you can do well on everything else you can still get a good grade.
Very easy class, but I wish I had taken it online because lecture is extremely boring and discussions are a joke. As long as you do all the work, though, it is a pretty easy A.
She is a good teacher, however ever point counts when it comes to the end of the semester. she offers 30 points of extra credit. the diet analysis was really interesting, however tests and quizes were hard and almost every week
this class was really interesting and I learned a lot about nutrition but overall it is the most boring class that you will never want to attend. GO THE THE DISCUSSIONS! otherwise you will fail like I did. Ricketts is so painfully boring with her dull monotone voice. Goodluck
I took nutrition online from Dr. Ricketts. It was the easiest class EVER. I worked maybe 2 hours a week and got an A+ in the class and didn't have to take the optional final. You can use your book for all assignments and tests since its online! I highly recommend taking this class, it was a joke it was so easy.
Definitely take this class online. Easy A, interesting material, doesn't require much time. Highly recommend this class if you are having a tough semester and need a break. Class fills up quickly so good luck!
The lectures are such a waste of time- I only went to about half of them. She repeats vocab that is in the book so the lecture is useless. THIS WAS THE MOST BORING CLASS I HAVE EVERY HAD. The material was useful, but the discussions and Dr. Ricketts were useless. Take this class online. I wish I had.
This class was so boring, but definitely an easy A. I wanted to take it online but couldn't get in, and it honestly was so easy it doesn't matter. semseter long diet analysis and exams every otehr week. read the book and GET OLD TESTS. haven't been to lecture for probably 2 months and have an A
Such an easy class, I have only gone to 2 lectures and I have a high A. Discussion attendance is mandatory, but a lot of times your done in there within 15 minutes. Just skim through the notes and book the night before a test and you will do fine.
Very informative teacher. but class is boring... very boring. I took NATS 104 online with her as the teacher. That was really easy but Nats 308 is very difficult with her. Only gives one test and one final but her quizzes on d2l is tricky. and have to do one presentation on a disease, which was easy. But the test and the final was hard.
HARD CLASS.She expects the students to either sink or swim and lets them know of it.One midterm and one final (MC and long answers)worth a big portion of your grade. Very little information as to whats on the tests (Entire Book = Fair Game). You must present a disease which was easy, along with D2L quizzes which helped.I was FORTUNATE to get my B..
Awful. The notes she posted online were totally disorganized and didn't go with her lecture half the time, or were confusing to follow. She doesn't give enough time to write down notes before she jumps to a new topic. I stopped going to lectures. The exams were terrible, and had such trivial facts from the book. There was no good way to study.
Boring. I was actually interested before I took the class, and now I'm not interested any longer. No good way to study for tests unless you can find the old ones. LOTS of things to print, costing me a fortune.
The class itself is fine and pretty easy overall. However, the teacher goes WAY too fast and it can be hard to keep up during lecture. I stopped attending her lecture after about a month because it was easier just to teach myself the material straight from the textbook. 40 point tests are once every 2 weeks and there is an optional 40 point final.
Her lectures are utterly useless. In fact, the entire class is a complete waste of time. The class involves a lot of free points, but the tests are difficult. I learned nothing in lectures, and almost nothing in the discussion period. TAs are equally as unhelpful as Dr. Ricketts. However, if you're looking for a class without much work, go for it.
You HAVE to go to class for in class participation, it definitely has an affect on your grade. Also,if you do terrible on the tests don't be discouraged! You'll have one group presentation that will help out A LOT, plus she offers extra credit! That's the only way to survive the class since she's the only prof for it..so good luck with her! ;)
I barely went to class nor cared about nutrition and got an A with all of the extra credit
You need to go to this class, because participation matters! She has a test every other week on two chapters, so she teaches material very quickly. Make sure to go to your discussion. Her final is optional, so that's a plus. All her notes and powerpoints are posted online though. She's kind of an intimidating teacher though.
Great Teacher!Keeps to the syllabus, explains everything very clearly, quizzes and tests are straightforward,KNOW YOUR VOCAB. Interesting class.Attendance is pretty necessary, she does cover some material not in the book. The "project" assignments take 30mins tops,& there are only a few of them. Overall great class, I learned a lot and recommend it!
Obviously the people reviewing did not have her SP2011 or are TAs trying to help Dr. Ricketts out. The tests are hard and there is no good way to study. There has only been one extra credit opportunity in lecture. If you take honors, there is a presentation that you have to do but that is the only difference.
Ricketts is awful, and so are her TA's. Only take this class if you have to, like me. Ill probably get an A or B but I had to work my butt off for it. Her assignments are hard, her test are harder. I even have all the old ones and i study from the book! My highest score on an exam is 35/40. Do not take this class if you do not have to.
She is amazing! She knows her stuff! Her class is hard. She wants you to know the important concepts of the class. Her exams are HARD. Though i will be getting a B in the class I had to work so hard to. This is a popular class for a Gen Ed but if you want to do well, be prepared to work. Also max your points out becasue it will help you in the end.
I had to take this class for Public Health and I am so happy the semester is over! Dr. Ricketts goes through slides too quickly and makes the tests too hard. She tests on minute details. She tells you not to come to class but you pretty much have to(IE. she quotes herself on tests). I got an A, but it wasn't easy.
Gateway course if you are a NSC major. Best professor for the course. Its a tough class that requires you to study hard. Her study guide is: know EVERYTHING! Read the entire book, attend EVERY lecture, pick group members you will work well with bc its a HUGE grade. GO INTO HER OFFICE HOURS PREPARED. Don't expect her to just give you the answers.
material is pretty easy, she gives online quizzes due every week on d2l these are easy, tests are kinda hard and ask for specific details not covered in class, overall everything is multiple choice and the TAs are helpful when you need it
I don't quite know how this is college level, but somehow it is. The material is beyond easy and only requires that you read the chapter thoroughly the night before and quiz yourself with an old exam. Don't bother going to class as it's unnecessary.Do go to all the discussions and do the quizzes. I already had an A before the last exam and final.
Walked into this class thinking it was an easy A. it wasn't. project and quizes were easy but the tests were hard. class wasn't worth going to. notehall won't help all that much because she rewrote all her tests. but if you read and do well on the quizes and get an avg of 30/40 on the test you'll get an a
DO NOT take your Nats req. with this Prof. She claims that grades can be contested, but they absolutely cannot be. The work load is WAY too much for a 104 class. If anything comes up for you, this Prof. has no sympathy you are only a mathematical equation to her. Essays are ridiculous in their standards. The workload is crazy heavy. STAY AWAY!!
DO NOT take this course with this Prof. You are only a mathematical equation to her. There is WAY too much work for a 104 class. She will not entertain any questions on her grading. The essays are vague and hard to understand, she will not give you any help on the instructions. STAY AWAY FROM HER!! Take your NATS requirement anywhere else!
not an easy class. very interesting. you can fail ever test (that she gives friday morning) and still get a b in the class. good class
I'm not too sure what everyone else's problem is with her. Though in one month of an online summer class you read an entire textbook, the information was pretty interesting (to me at least). Assignments and tests were not hard as long as you read and when I had a problem with D2L she helped me out and still accepted my work. For me it was an easy A
Rickett's powerpoint lectures are frustrating because she crams too much information and goes too fast. The quizzes and DA project saved my grade. The exams are pretty difficult, seeing that I only got an A on a couple. However, I worried way too much and ended up with a high A because I did all of the work.
Lectures are boring. She lectures directly from the textbook. Online quizzes are very easy (word for word from the textbook chapters). Exams every other Fridays during discussions which are lead by the TAs. Sometimes she give extra credit out for those who goes to lectures. The final is optional, too. Class was fairly easy!
Horrible teacher. The material is not that hard, but you won't learn anything from her. All learning is done on your own and tests are almost impossible to study for. If you can help it, don't take this class.
I took her class both online and in the class room. The online class is super easy. everything is out of the book and the essays that you have to do are really simple. As for her in person class. Her test are REALLY hard. They don't have anything to do with the material. if you study& do your data analysis and take the optional final u can get an A
This class should only be taken if absolutely needed. Professor Ricketts does not care about the students or the material she is teaching. You would think it would be a fun class, but it's terible. Alot of work, tests are hard, and lectures are boring. Avoid this class if you can!
This class is horrible!! It sounds interesting, but the professor goes way too fast through the information and does not care or explain anything on her ppts..The tests are impossible to study for..If you want to take this class do it online!!!
I took this class online and couldn't be more happy. I have friends who are taking this class in the classroom and are failing. The online class is super easy, just stay ontop on the work and youll be fine!
There is no point in going to any of the lectures for this class. They are extremely boring and everything is covered in the textbook. You have online quizzes that are really easy and the discussion work is easy too, which is probably the only reasons anyone passes this class. The tests are IMPOSSIBLE so if you take this class get points elsewhere.
She is nice when you talk to her in her office, but she seems really intimidating during lectures. The lectures are very boring, but they do help and she does give away test questions if you go. She has op quizzes at lectures worth extra credit as an incentive to go to class, but they are not very often. The tests are very hard.
There is really no need to go to lectures, but if you choose not to then you have to make sure you actually study outside of class! The content isn't too difficult, you just need to put time into studying. Other than that the class wasn't too bad.
This class is not the most engaging but the professor knows her information. Quizzes are hard and discussions are almost always pointless. The course project if done right can help secure a good grade. Definitely read the book because it will help reinforce the information from lecture.
This class was very difficult. The tests are pretty much impossible and I normally did not get anything out of her lectures. I would highly suggest taking this class online over in class. The quizzes are online and pretty easy, but everything else is very difficult. Her lectures are very bland and hard to pay attention to.
I took this class online. Easiest thing I have ever done. I only opened the book when it was quiz and exam time. Occasionally when writing the essays. I definitely recommend taking this class online.
Very boring class and the discussions are pointless. Not too difficult of a class but I still would not recommend it unless you have to take it.
Think twice before you take this class. This class contains too much works as a G.E tier I nats class, and the exam are kind of trickey as it will ask you any detail informaton in the book and expect you to know something beyond the book. DO NOT take this class if you have better option. The most useless classs I take so far in the U of A.
I took this class online because that is what most people suggested. It is IMPOSSIBLE to find this woman at office hours, and I have e-mailed her several times, only to never be answered. I get the impression she does not really care for her students. I have an A, but she is not a helpful teacher.
This class has a lot of busy work, but if you do it, it can be an easy A. weekly quizzes online, and a term health project help your grade alot. discussions are easy points. Tests are a bit tricky, but the other opportunities for points help you get an A.
I had heard that the online Nutrition class was easy, so I took it. The essays are beyond annoying, because she gives 1 or 2 lines for the prompt, and except master work. The quizzes and tests are open book, but the questions are completely random so you need the time. The case studies are hit or miss, and again very annoying. I regret this class.
Since lectures aren't mandatory to attend, I don't go to them much since she just reads off her powerpoints. I do admit that she is a very knowledgeable professor. Discussion are extremely easy pts and the big project for the whole semester is easy and very interesting as well. The exams are hard and tricky but if you study hard you will do well.
If you are not a "Science Person", I would not recommend this class as non-science majors struggle in this class. However, if you can handle some science, then you will learn a lot. This class changed my life as it covered everything you need to know about eating well, being a smart consumer, and health related illness. Easy class if you care.
I took the honors section, which is the exact same as regular, except you do a 10 minute presentation as well. I would still take the online version of this class if you can because there is way more work needed for this class. If you take the lecture course, focus on doing well in discussion, quizzes and project since tests are extremely hard.
Pretty mean teacher but still pretty easy to get an A. Make sure you put in work to the quizzes, project and attend discussion because thats where you earn your A. Can still get an A or B if you do well on those and poorly on the exams.
The lectures weren't mandatory, so you might as well not go. You'll get the point from reading the chapter. Discussions are an easy way to get points, but theres assignments due each week. She's not a very good teacher overall, but pretty easy to get an A if you do the work and go to discussions.
Her lectures are incredibly boring and useless. I got D's and F's on every test but got A's on the online quizzes each week, and perfect score on the super easy diet analysis and ended up with a B. Probably worth taking as long as you put in effort with quizzes and project
This class is incredibly boring but not really that hard. The lectures are pretty much useless so I stopped going the last two months. Make sure you have your textbook because you'll need it for the weekly online quizzes and studying for the exams. I got an A without too much effort. Just do well on the quizzes and you'll be fine.
If you want an easy A, DO NOT take this course. Discussions are an easy way to get points, do all extra credit offered, and study for quizzes. They can be very tricky. Ricketts isn't very helpful either. Attendance isn't required, but she does go over exam questions during class. I put in a good amount of effort and got a B in the course.
Ricketts is not very helpful, and does not care about her students. Class is not mandatory, and there is no reason to go seen as how she does not talk about anything relevant to class. Tests are impossible, and you must memorize everything in the textbook. Take this class online!!!
This class is interesting and I learned alot of useful material. I took it online and it was difficult. We had assignments, and quizzes every week. Some were harder than others. The case studies were difficult. But the writing assignments were easier and I enjoyed the writing assignments.
She states the same material from ch. 1 every lecture. Doesn't take attendance tho, so spend that hr reading/memorizing the book (which is actually interesting)& you should be ok. She posts slides, & on them is a link each wk for a assignment you'll need to do for the discussion; she didn't mention this but it counts towards your grade so be aware.
Ricketts means well but she isn't the best at teaching. She usually just reads off the slide so lecture is pointless; however, read the chapter in the textbook! If you have even the slightest background in bio, chem, or anatomy, the class is mostly review. Friday discussions are super easy and half the time we get out a half hour early.
The lecture is pretty pointless to go to except the last two right before an exam. Everything she reads off the slides is in the book. Honestly, you just need to know the book inside and out to pass a test. DO THE EASY POINTS TO BOOST YOUR GRADE! If you've taken anatomy before then this class should be easy.
This class is alright. I found the content to be very interesting but the lectures are definitely not mandatory. Dr. Ricketts basically copies straight out of the book onto the powerpoint and reads them off during class. She also posts the powerpoint on D2L. So attendance is obviously not mandatory. Tests can be ify; they are tricky.
The lectures for this class are not helpful at all. When it comes to test time and you are studying and realize what she says, what the TA says and what the book says are all different so you have no idea what to do. She gives you a study guide but when you take the test nothing from the study guide is on there.
This class was so easy for me. I only showed up to lectures for the first 2 weeks. Her lectures are so pointless. The tests are all things out of the textbook and the textbook is simple and clear. Show up to discussions though because those are easy points. Overall I thought this was an easy gen ed and I recommend taking it.
Rickettes is a useless teacher. Her powerpoints are STRIAGHT from the book. Very easy A, even if you don't get A's on any of the tests. Just make sure you go to discussion and do the d2l quizzes and homework. Those are what will get you your A.
Although she started the class saying that the book would not really provide the adequate info to pass, all of her slides are straight from the book. Lecture is not mandatory for attendance, but discussion is. Straightforward class and an easy A if you just do the small amount of work.
Ok, so the only reason people fail this class is that they don't attend lecture. so. GO. TO. CLASS. Her lectures are so interesting! Discussions were boring but offered tones of extra credit. Ricketts' projects are so easy to pass, I got A's on all of them. You even get to learn a little about yourself. Take this class, great professor, LOVED IT
This professor really does not care about the education her students receive in her class. The lecture is a slideshow she copied directly from the book. If you can study on your own, I recommend doing that. (I never went to class) If you can't, go to lecture. My discussion leader was amazing though! Make sure you go for participation points and EC
It's often evident that Ricketts doesn't really want to teach, nor does she willingly help you. She doesn't explain material well at all, and it really puts a damper on nutrition majors. Unfortunately, you're forced to take her for a few classes, so make the best of it! She has random participation points, so you might want to attend lecture!
If you're a science major and you thought this class was difficult then I suggest you switch majors. It really isn't that bad as people are making it seem. Go to class, read the book, don't wait till the last minute to study, and attend discussions. Do well on the practice tests so you can get extra credit!
Go to lectures AND discussions. The lectures are interesting and the discussions account for a decent part of your grade. As a teacher, Ricketts doesn't really do much, but the class was an easy way to get a NATS out of the way. I got C's on all of the tests and walked away with an A in the class. Just do all of the quizzes and assignments.
No reason to go to class, literally just reads the textbooks on a powerpoint.
She is very nice and the class is relatively easy. Just do all the work and get D's or higher on the tests and you can get an A. She gives out a lot of extra credit.
Go to lecture, pay attention, take notes, and this is an easy class to pass.
As long as you're decent at memorization, you don't need to go to class. I cracked open the book the day before the test and just highlighted key points and memorized them. Got a high A without having to take the optional final. Lecture is kind of pointless unless you're an auditory learner. Her power points are pretty much out of the book.
I took the class online, and was honestly the easiest class I've ever taken. Its so interesting and very straightforward. Ricketts is always answering emails in timely fashions. Take this course with her!
Lectures are pointless to go to, all she does is read info off slides that she puts online. She's not very helpful, but if you read the book and do all the study guides for the test you'll be fine.
Ricketts is okay. Lecture is definitely something that I recommend you go to because there's random days of class participation. Reading the book is very helpful, too. Be sure to know everything you learned in the intro class because she skips over that material but you're still expected to know it.
The content is easy but I found the teacher very rude. She said if you spelled things wrong shed take off points, and then she spelled everything wrong. She also is very unprofessional in emails. She is unhelpful and not understanding.Work wise it's super easy as long as you keep up with the work and pay attention to due dates.
She knows exactly how she wants work turned in and if you follow her syllabus and just do the assignments, there is no reason not to get a good grade. Assignments are easy. She is definitely impatient and sometimes sarcastic in her emails for no reason. She is also sometimes testy in person. Just avoid having to go see her or get something excused.
Super easy A! Lecture is not mandatory but she gives you answers to test questions if you do go. Friday discussion is mandatory and each one is worth 15 points. Final is optional. Do the study guides and/or look at the provided notes and you will get an a! Honors students just have one extra research project of their choice but it's simple.
Possibly the easiest course I have ever taken. I heard the in person lecture was harder but online this class was very easy and straightforward. Take this class online if you can and just do the assignments and you will get an A.
She was a great professor for both of these classes! The material wasn't that difficult and I learned a lot! Also, she's really nice, go into office hours if you're confused.
Discussion is mandatory and worth a lot of points. The quizzes and online homework are easy so get the points out of that too. If you read the textbook, you don't have to go to lecture since she posts powerpoints. The honors class is also easy, just make sure you keep track of the deadlines. One test is dropped so you don't have to take the final.
This class was not that exciting but it was very easy and if you put in any effort at all you can learn something new and kind of interesting. I thought that towards the end of the year the classes got more exciting as well as more interesting.
She is not very nice, and she is proud of that but the class is easy. I got C's on the tests but did good on everything else and got an A. Lectures aren't mandatory but discussion is. Easy Gen Ed!
SUPER easy class. Dr. Ricketts herself is not that great but the easiness of the class made up for it. You can get C's on all the exams and still get an A in the class if you do well on everything else. Also, attendance for lecture is not mandatory at all, but it is for discussion(worth 30% of final grade). Lot's of extra credit opportunities too.
Loved this class. She's a really great teacher, she just gets fed up sometimes because people don't try in this class. Can be difficult if you aren't strong in science.
TAKE THIS CLASS ONLINE. Even if it means having a summer course. You can use the textbook on exams and quizzes, and the grading is much easier. 4 essays, 12 assignments, 4 case studies, and 5 exams plus a final. It seems like a huge load for 5 weeks, but believe me, it's so much easier than it looks, especially over summer online.
She literally pulls the lectures up from D2L, so going to class is only helpful if you learn better by listening to them being read out loud. I stopped going to class in February and just studied the slides online, and got an A in the class because it was so easy. There was some online work, but it mostly just had quizzes from the book.
Professor Ricketts is one of the best professors I've had at the U of A. She's very passionate about nutrition and wants to help undergraduates learn as much as they can. Plus, the class is an easy A if you just do the work you're supposed to do. She's also very friendly if you need help in office hours.
She is a good professor. Lecture is not mandatory but discussions are. I never go to lecture and have an A. As long as you review the test material, go to discussion, and take advantage of extra credit you should get an easy A. If you can, take this class online. The discussions are very simple and assignments are just busy work.
Lectures aren't mandatory but discussions are. You can skip lectures all you want and still get an A in the class. Discussions are basically group activities the whole class time. The workload is like once a month quizzes. Easy A class basically. Just read the book if you're gonna ditch majority of the lectures and go to discussions.
If you miss discussions your grade will drop significantly. Tests are impossible
Super easy class. Other people complained about the exams, but I got As easily without studying. Also, there is a ton of extra credit offered in discussion. You really just have to show up to discussion and it's easy to get an A.
I am very glad I got to have her as my professor for 308. She is organized and very willing to help if you dedicate the time. In class participation is mandatory! I wish I could have more classes with her.
This class was incredibly easy for me, I barely had to try and I got a high A in the class. I never went to class because the tests are right from the book. Read the book two days before the test and you'll get high B's and then she'll give multiple chances for extra credit. Definitely recommend
TAKE THIS CLASS ONLINE. There's about one assignment a week, a lot of writing but really easy. Tests are all online and you can use your notes so you're guaranteed an A. Optional final. A lot easier online than in class. She's very friendly if you go into office hours. Gives lots of extra credit.
I would recommend taking this class just not by this professor. The class was very interesting but she didn't explain anything. This is a class you have to teach your self. She is really rude sometimes and treats you like your an idiot.
Pleasant professor. Rushes a bit through lecture. Material can be unclear. Pay attention to class participations and diagrams drawn on board. They WILL show up on exams. 3 exams (including cumulative final), group presentation, 2 case studies, 3 study reviews, 1 poster, chapter quizzes. Tests full of long answer questions. Office hours help!
If you want a guaranteed B here is your class, got an F average on my tests and finished with a B, also didn't take the final.
There are four tests and the final is optional. Butttttt the tests are not easy and you really have to study for them. You never have to go to class.
Ricketts' lectures basically suck, aren't helpful, and are extremely boring. However, the class overall is very easy. There is one project throughout the semester, and a couple tests. Final is optional. The discussions are Friday mornings which isn't always fun, but you get a ton of extra credit in discussion so it's important to go. Overall easy A
Easy class if you're willing to actually do the work. Not for you if you are looking for an easy gen-ed however. Lectures aren't mandatory, but if you don't go to lecture make sure you read the book! Tons of extra credit opportunities - they're basically the reason I got an A. Also make sure you go to Friday discussions
There are four tests, only of those can be dropped and replaced by the final or you can keep all four and not take the final. You don't have to go to lectures but always go to the discussion because you get so much extra credit!
Lectures are really boring and she just rereads the book basically. Discussion is a must worth a good amount of points and good way to get extra credit. Tests are hard because you don't know what to expect, it is multiple choice. She isn't clear on whats on test. Basically you need to read all the chapter and be prepared for any question.
I never went to class and this was the easiest class every. Discussions are mandatory but you get a TON of extra credit from going to them. Tests are hit or miss. Assignments are straight forward and easy. You do need the book. Optional finale used to replace a bad score on an exam. 10/10 easiest gen ed
Dr. Ricketts is easily one of my favorite professors. Have had her for three classes now, just go to office hours and you will pass no matter what the class is. Take notes when she draws diagrams in class, they will be on the test.
You do not have to attend lectures, you'll learn everything from the online textbook. Must attend Friday discussions in order to pass- attendance is taken. Even if you do bad on the four exams, its easy to get an A because there's so many opportunities for extra credit. There are weekly assignments but pretty simple and easy.
Attending lectures is very helpful because she goes more in depth during lectures as opposed to just going off the slides. I would recommend this class and would love to have Ricketts again.
NSC170C1 is one of the easiest classes you can take! You only need Cs on all her exams to get an A. There's a bit of homework, but nothing to hard it's actually really easy. Lectures are not mandatory but discussion is that's where the majority of your grade comes from! She offers a lot of extra credit! Super easy class and easy A! :)
This class is defiantly one of the easier 170's. You can get C's on every single test and still get an A in the class as long as you do all of the busy work and go to your discussion. Lectures are painfully boring but worth taking for the easy A, plus information is kinda interesting.
Do all your homework and just pass tests and you will get an A.
Loved this class! It was so easy. You literally go to the two day lecture which is mandatory cuz there's clickers. Also discussion is mandatory. Prof. Ricketts is very nice and always there for students. Tests are super easy just go to lecture and discussions and take notes and it's an Easy A. There's also online homework due but very helpful.
Dr. Ricketts is a super nice person! She really cares about the students and knows what she is talking about. The class is an easy A, even if youre not a strong test taker and the material is interesting to everyday life. Do the weekly homework which takes 20 minutes and go to discussions to get extra credit. Discussions are all group work anyways.
I really enjoyed this class and I learned a lot from it. Unit 2 was difficult, and none of the tests were super easy except the first one, but there there's a lot of help available if you need it. Professor Ricketts was also really nice and helpful in office hours. As long as you do all the homework and assignments, it should be an easy A!
Ricketts is my least favorite professor I have had. She flies through lecture and never gives students adequate time to copy down notes. She goes off topic constantly and is condescending towards every student, especially those who ask questions. If there were not points for attendance, I would not even show up. Tests are easy, work load is ok.
She does love Nutrition although this is one of the most boring classes I've ever taken. She has started taken clicker questions for attendance so you do have to go to class but, other than that going to class is so useless because she goes through slides very quickly and doesn't really make sense.
Lots of random assignments on the syllabus that don't get mentioned in class. I could have never attended lecture and gotten the same grade but she takes attendance with clickers. Lectures straight from the textbook. Discussions are useless but easy credit. Probably the easiest class I have ever taken and one of the most mediocre professors.
Assignments due but were never mentioned. She posts all her lectures online but takes attendance with clickers. Tests were not hard but many questions were never discussed in class. She talks/goes through lectures very fast not enough time to copy notes and talks about important things but doesn't have them on the lecture. Very boring to listen to.
Dr. Ricketts was a great professor and this was a really easy class but the tests are completely different than what she tells you to study and whats in the lecture notes she provides. Go to class, she uses clickers and it is a huge part of your grade. There are lots of easy points and tons of extra credit.
I really enjoyed Dr. Ricketts. She offers extra credit and it was really easy to obtain an A. There isn't much work and all the assignments are explained multiple times. Attending class is necessary only 70% of the time to get an A. (She takes attendance via clicker participation) The discussion section often ended early.
had me stressing all semester long until the very end where i realized i had gotten a 70 on one of the tests & was still going to get an A. she weights it such a way that you can get an A even if you get a 72 on each test but trust me the tests are hard so make sure you get the other easy points. credit for clicker questions. she is very annoying.
Must study for tests, sometimes the material does not match what is taught in class. Homework is easy and there isn't a ton of it.
I had trouble with my clicker, and only discovered it half way through the semester. Make sure your clicker works from the beginning because attendance points make a huge difference! Prof Rickett's class is fairly easy, and take advantage of the easy points (extra credit, discussions, homeworks).
I had her for NSC 170 C1 and it was extremely easy. The tests are pretty much common sense and she provides a lot of chances for extra credit. She is passionate about what she teaches and provides good explanations. I would reccommend this class and teacher to anyone who needs a NATS class
If you're expecting sympathy, go to another course. She holds you at a higher standard than any other course. It's is an Easy A with the amount of extra credit she gives. BEWARE of clicker questions that WILL pop out of nowhere. There's discussion on Fridays. I had a great TA and preceptor, so I found these useful. Tests are also on Fridays.
Easy class if you do the work. Lectures can be boring because she just goes over the reading. Very good about answering e-mails and helping with individual concerns. A few short writing assignments, one project, and honors has an extra presentation to create. Not a bad teacher, but the class if pretty self-guided in terms of understanding material
her tests do not reflect the lectures AT ALL. when i get tests i have no idea where the questions came from because we never talked about it in class. people would ask her questions and she would straight up just say I dont know. would not recommend at all.
Dr. Ricketts was a good professor, she kind of went through her lectures fast so you have to be able to take quick notes but she posts the text online so if you needed to, you could add on to them later. It's not a really hard class or difficult material but you definitely need to go to class so you can understand the material better.
You must attend the Friday discussions but you can still do well if you skip the lectures and read the material on your own. She's really helpful if you go to her office hours. Exams are okay if you study.
Everyone says to take this class because you'll get an easy A, but that's not necessarily true unless you're a good test taker. As long as you do the homework, project, and STUDY for tests, you will receive an A even though attendance is not mandatory. Dr. Ricketts is also flexible and will allow you to take tests early if you need to.
Do not come to class if you're going to talk, text, or be distracting she will call you out and tell you to leave. Attendance for lectures is not required but discussion sections are and are a big part of your grade. I study VERY hard for the tests and the highest I've gotten is an 89% so prepare to study.
An okay professor. She seems to enjoy what she teaches, but her lectures are heavy and boring. Homework assignments are due every week, and there's a new chapter to read each week. There is a discussion each week and they are mandatory. Her tests aren't the easiest, so it's critical that you study for it ahead of time.
The lectures feel long and a lot of information but she really loves what she teaches and the discussions are good and you have to go. To pass you just need to build points and you'll be fine, do decent on exams and you should pass.
This is probably one of the easiest classes you can take. The tests are mostly common sense, but there are always a few questions on each test that are never covered in class. Show up to discussions and do all the homework and as long as you do decent on the tests you'll do well.
Lectures are interesting if you enjoy working out and/or eating healthy. She is very knowledgeable! Do not miss more than your drop one for discussions as those are the only mandatory attendance grades. Work load is manageable and easy overall. The review sessions that the TA's hold basically give you the answers to the test questions. Great class!
Did not do well on any test but still got a B the final was pretty easy so make sure to take that. Show up to discussion and do all the homework!!! Thats where a lot of points come in. I didnt really go to lecture and still did fine
This class is one of the better Gen Ed's at the U of A. The homework is really easy and a lot of points come from participation at discussion. The tests can be tricky, but as long as you go to the review sessions you'll be fine.
She is a great professor. Makes the material much easier to understand and always helpful and welcoming when it comes to helping students and answering questions.
Her tests are so different from the reviews she gives you! There isnt a point in studying the reviews. You also have to do good on the quizzes to get at least a B. Lectures are super boring & moves quickly with material.
I took 170 and later 308 with Ricketts (which Ive also posted a review on). In 170 I honestly rarely went to class, but always discussion and easily got an A. It was so interesting that I switched my major to nutrition, the lectures were boring so I just read from the book. Definitely a good class to take for a gen ed.
Good teacher, she knows what shes talking about. Her test are really hard though and review sessions don't help. She also gives extra credit especially in discussions
Overall good teacher and knows what she is talking about but her tests are almost impossible. I could spend days studying the material, as well as study guides that TA's send out and I still cannot get a decent enough grade. She also moves fast in class, so its almost like a race to write down the notes.
This aint it chief. I recently took the 10 week course and she zooms through the material fast so its a race to write down as much of that useless info. Her study guides are too broad for the test and sometimes dont even relate. She knows what she is doing but she makes the tests harder than they should be. SI sessions help but not enough.
Dr. Ricketts is awesome. She does go through the material fast, and to me that is okay because she posts them online afterwards. If you go through the powerpoints for each day, study each topic then you will do fine. SI sessions are helpful too. Her questions are a little tricky, but thats all on you if you studied. Her class is not hard.
I never went to class, I did the bare minimum failed every exam and did all the homeworks and assignments with 100s. Class was not mandatory but discussions you have to attend.
For starters, this was a sped up 10 wk course 3 times a week at 9 am. Mistake on my part there, but she is not a good teacher. She lags on and on and rarely made sense of things so we could get it. TONS of work, mainly open-ended tests on things we may or may not have even discussed. About 100 students, class avg on an exam was a 63. Total mess GE
I took nutrition because i thought it would be fun and intresting. the tests ended up being very hard and this is with me studying and going to class. I got an A in this class because of all the extra credit. i failed 3 tests. I just think there is too much to know in this class for it to be a gen ed
Very interesting lecturer. She definitely takes time to explain things in detail however much of the lecture content is not related to the tests. Most of the test questions come from the quizzes that the book provides on each chapter. Goes way too fast in lectures however does post them online. Lots of extra credit opportunities. Interesting course
I would advise to be cautious with taking her class due to how complex her tests can be compared to the actual material you are taught in class, and she teaches fast. I survived with quizlet and GOING TO THE SI SESSIONS. She is a cool lady and is passionate about what she teaches, but a little scatter-brained when trying to explain the material.
Famously one of the easiest classes at UA. I thought the only real difficult part of the class were the exams. Of the three exams, I received an A and two D's, but got an A in the course. If you do all of your assignments, show up to every Friday discussion and participate, and do your best to study for the exams, you will get at least a B.
I thought this was a fairly easy A. If you show up to the lectures and discussions you will learn everything that will be on the exam. You get extra credit for attending SI sessions and the practice problems they do before the exams are usually on the exam. All the exams together account for 30% of the grade. If you do the other work you'll do fine
There are multiple assignments and quizzes that you need to pay attention to. There are no reminders so you have to remember when they are. The exams are extremely important so reviewing the material learned in class on your own is crucial. DON'T SKIP CLASS! She counts attendance as points so those are bonus if you just don't skip.
Class is lecture heavy and can be very tedious but Ricketts tries to keep us engaged by doing activities. She goes through content very quickly so make sure you read the textbook before tests to ensure you do well. Not an overwhelming amount of homework and tests are not too hard if you study a lot. The final is a 20 min group presentation.
You definitely need to take good notes when taking this class. Make sure to do the readings and chapter quizzes before going to class so you better understand the material. She makes clear what are on tests and MAKE SURE TO FOCUS ON WHITE BOARD ACTIVITIES/ TABLE WORK (those questions will most likely be on the test). Overall enjoyed her class :)
She moves at a fast pace during lectures, so be prepared to do more studying outside of class. Learned a lot from her class and would definitely recommend taking again. As long as you study, youll pass. Very few extra credit opportunities.
While I did end up getting an A, Ricketts' class required a lot of work on my end, and the lectures are extremely dry. Only 1 EC opportunity. Tests are moderately difficult. The whiteboard activities you do in class will show up on the tests. The final is a 20-minute group presentation.
The class is very collaborative and you make new friends in your group. However, she is abrasive and gets upset with the class for not knowing the answer to something she didn't teach. Even when people get it right, she says there wrong. Preceptors lost all our work and study guides, then blamed our group for losing it. They were in charge of it.
Professor Ricketts is very passionate about her field of study but is very abrasive and difficult to approach. Very inflexible when it comes to rescheduling tests due to medical reasons, difficult to keep up with during lectures due to fast pace, and rigid class structure that leaves little room for questions.
