Really nice teacher. Her tests aren't too bad if you study the notes and problems from class. The book is pretty useless except for a few practice problems.
She's a good teacher and explains everything clearly. The class itself is fairly difficult and her tests are kind of tricky, but like most accounting classes you'll do fine if you just do the assigned problems. Attendance is mandatory but her class isn't boring and she does a good job of explaining what the book can't.
I liked Professors Rivers. She gave us plenty of resources that were very useful (including CPA exam review questions!!!) to help us learn accounting. The tests were ridiculous, though. I was probably one of the hardest working people in my class and I still had a tough time passing this course. The book is very poorly written, but she's great!!!
Rivers is extremely smart and is a great teacher. She truly cares about all her students and wants them to succeed. The material is hard, but she makes it as simple as it can be and answers questions thoroughly and clearly. She's a super boss lady and one of the best teachers I've ever had.
I really enjoyed her class. Easily my favorite teacher this semester. Tests were challenging but doable. She does a great job of teaching for a purpose, not just to have facts memorized. Quizzes can be tricky.
Professor Rivers is good at her job. This is a very hard program and she does everything she can to make sure all students are prepared for tests. Participation goes a long way in this class.
I hate this women. She is my nightmare. This is class is very hard, as she said it in the beginning of class "you do fine on the homework and quizes does not mean you will be fine on the test." "20% of student withdrawl my class after first exam." plus she does not give any extra credit and neither curve the grade. Good luck guys.
I LOVE PROFESSOR RIVERS. Yes, this class is harder than any class I've ever taken. If you put in the work and study your butt off, you can do it. The accounting program at UGA is no joke, but Ms. Rivers was super helpful in the transition to taking all hard classes, and she cares about her students. I will definitely stay in contact.
Professor Rivers is one of the best professors I've ever had while at UGA. She cares a lot about the students and wants them to succeed. She tells you from the beginning that her class would be hard, but she gives you all the tools and materials to do great.
I enjoyed Professor Rivers class. Intermediate is not meant to be easy, but as an extension of Principles I, you can succeed if you dedicate yourself enough. Only thing I really didn't like was she doesn't answer any questions nor lets you write anything during her "test review study sessions" so don't go (they are pointless).
She does curve grades slightly at the end. This class is VERY difficult. Read the book, do all of the practice problems she assigns and never skip. Quizzes are nothing like the test but are a must for understanding. Stay on top of this class or you will regret slacking. This class is a prime example of why our Accounting program is at the top.
Hardest class I've taken so far at UGA. The tests are really long and cover a lot of material. They also ask questions on the randomest tiny details from the notes. If you put in the time and effort you should for sure get at least a B in the class. Participate in class and go to office hours because Rivers might bump your grade in the end!
Hw every night, never reviewed homework once, takes up HW randomly for grade. Instead, spends class time reviewing tests we've already failed, smart right? Office hours from 2:30-3:30pm 1-2 times a week, yet, 50 students lined up each day. She cannot explain concepts, only memorize them. Test Pass %: 1: 78% 2: 48% 3: ? Boosted final grade 10
Dr. Rivers is a great teacher for the subject. As a Finance major, she made the class very approachable. Her class is not a cake walk, but it isn't designed to ruin students semesters. Don't be afraid to talk to her or visit her in office hours (this goes a long way with her). As long as you pay attention and contribute in class you will do well.
Professor Rivers is absolutely amazing. She loves all of her students and will try to get to know you. Intermediated is extremely hard but she makes it as painless as possible. I would 100% take her again.
Professor Rivers is the best professor I've had at UGA. She truly cares about her students and makes difficult content as understandable as possible. Tests are slightly difficult, but mainly application of concepts she has gone over. I would absolutely take her again.
Professor Rivers is a great teacher, but the class is really difficult. She was extremely helpful in office hours and encouraged me to keep going when I was struggling in the class. She also curves the grades at the end of the semester because there was no way I should've passed on my own.
Professor Rivers is a total boss lady. She teaches you so much and youll be grateful for it later! Tests are pretty tough but you will have all of the resources you need to do well. Homework isnt super helpful but needed to get the main idea of things. Make sure you interact in class or office hours because she grades you on participation!
This class is incredibly hard but professor Rivers does a really good job of explaining everything as well as she can, but the material is just really hard. She also is willing to help anyone outside of class if you need it. Be prepared because the tests are super detailed and if you don't really know the material you're screwed.
Prof. Rivers gives everything you need to do well in class. Do the extra practice! A lot! She provides guided notes so study those and pay attention to detail. This class is not as hard as people frame it to be. Participate in class and see her in the after-hours, it goes a long way with her. I got a 0 on my first quiz and came out with a 92.
Great at what she does, but not the most approachable professor. The lectures are good. Homework and extra practice are usually helpful. Quizzes come from the notes, but there were always a couple of tricky questions. Tests are extremely difficult. Projects were easy but graded meticulously--check your work.
This is a tough class, but Rivers teaches it well. Take detailed notes, do EVERY practice problem (esp. textbook and CPA ones), read before class - makes her fast pace much more digestible. Go in person and participate and follow up after class - she curves at the end individually, and being "teacher's pet" pays. Tests are hard, prep 1+ week out.
Professor Rivers is nice and is available to help but this is the hardest class I have taken. There is homework everyday and quizzes that she announces a couple of days before. Lots and lots of assignments but they were very helpful to learn. Exams are 3 hours long and extremely difficult and exhausting. Be prepared to spend a lot of time studying
Rivers's class is good, but her exams are tough and you need to study at least a week ahead of the exams if you want to do well, keep up with lectures & notes in class and review the homework and assignments for the exams. I enjoyed the class and learned a bunch, she's fair and has good availability outside of class, either with her or her TA.
Not that hard but you must pay attention in class and do the homework/readings. If you get lost in the beginning it's gonna get harder.
ACCT 2101 is just a hard class but Professor Rivers' lectures were so helpful and I was able to follow along. If you get lost at the beginning it will be hard to stay on track, but she is super encouraging to her students. I really recommend taking her if you can, I had her at 8am but I think she was worth it!
She is overall a good professor and a good fit for ACCT. She's good at explaining the material, but just know that ACCT 2101 is a difficult class and you will need to work for your grade.
Professor Rivers is amazing. She's so nice and genuinely cares about her students doing well even though it was a 300 person class. Acct 2101 is hard either way, you just have to put the work in. It doesn't really matter which professor you take because all the material is the same. She did curve out exams more than the other professors though.
This class is hard to begin with but she worked hard to make sure we understood the content. Do your readings, show up to every class, and start reviewing for tests early and the class won't be as bad as it seems. Rivers was a great option and kept it lively despite it being early. She's a great teacher and resource, definitely recommend!
Professor Rivers is a great lecturer, and you can tell she loves to teach. The class itself is just very difficult since it is very heavily test based. However, she gives a lot of tips and tricks about the exam and tries to encourage you to not give up. If I had to take an upper-level accounting class, I would definitely try to take hers.
Accounting 2101 was my favorite class this semester and a large part of it was due to Professor Rivers. Accounting 2101 is a hard class in general, but Professor Rivers went above and beyond to make sure that everyone understood the material. My advice: READ!!!!! SHOW UP TO EVERY CLASS!!! Put extra work in! Begin studying early! You will be fine!!
Professor Rivers is caring and also has good lectures but attendance is mandatory. I recommend using the accounting lab in addition to her class. She also gives good curves.
This class is very difficult. However, this is also my favorite class I've ever taken. Prof. Rivers is great and does her best to present things in an understandable way. You definitely need to read the textbook to do well and stay on top of the homework. I started studying for exams one week in advance and made A's on both of them.
While this is the most difficult class I have taken so far, Professor Rivers gives you all of the resources you need to do well. Review as many practice problems as you can for the tests and you should be ok. The textbook is also very helpful with video walkthroughs for problems.
She provides many resources. I made several careless mistakes on the second test that cost me several questions. I studied about 9 days out from the test. I did every ELC and MBC questions multiple times.
An extremely hard class, took this after withdrawing the first time around. However, Rivers is a fair professor and rewards effort. If you participate in class, go to office hours, and ask good questions, she will recognize it. Focus on the eLC and CPA questions for test practice. You have to work for every point you get in the class.
Be prepared to work! Extremely challenging, but make sure you don't go into the class with ANY questions on any practice problems because it will likely come back. Do not fall behind. The ELC problems are best for practice. The test's multiple-choice questions are challenging but Rivers wants you to succeed and will help you in office hours.
Professor Rivers is one of the best accounting professors in my opinion. This specific course is just really difficult and test/quiz heavy. To be successful in this class you need to study almost everyday. If you learn something on tuesday then go back home and look it over again. Practice makes perfect!! Good luck!
Rivers is a great professor that is passionate about accounting. Lectures are fast-paced, so studying and reading the textbook is extremely important. There are in-class quizzes everyday and homework/reading quizzes due every class, but this provides a nice cushion for your grade. This class is hard but it's possible to make an A. Highly recommend!
Mrs. Rivers is genuinely a very nice person who you can tell cares, which is nice. Because of the massive workload of the course, her lectures had to go very very fast, which made it tough to follow. If you prepare before each lecture, everything she says makes sense. I reccomend getting Skoolers for this class. You have to earn a good grade.
Rivers is such a good option for ACCT 1, she truly cares about her students and makes sure you have all the resources you need to succeed. Lectures are very fast paced and in depth. This course requires a ton of outside work but you get out what you put in. It is intimidating but it is totally possible to receive an A in this course.
She was very nice and cared a lot about accounting. She was a good lecturer, but I found it frustrating that she usually didn't post the completed slides after class. The class is pretty difficult but if you work hard you can get an A. I highly recommend getting Skoolers because that's where I really grasped most of the information.
The class is not hard if you do the work they tell you to do on the syllabus. Show up to class, do the reading and homework, and go to the lab if you are confused. The class is very clearly structured. You really don't need to use Skoolers if you pay attention. She is a great teacher. She is serious though and does not like people who goof around.
Such an amazing professor! This class was very challenging but she gives you plenty of material and assignments to practice with so you should be prepared for tests. It is clear she is very knowledgeable about the subject and wants to help in any way she can. Take her if you can!
Rivers is one of the best professors I've ever had, she strongly cares about all of her students and is very helpful. Accounting in general is a difficult class, so be ready to put in the work for every single point. Although this class was difficult she made the content easier to understand and grasp. 100% recommend her as a professor!
Professor Rivers is a good professor. Accounting is hard, but she does explain concepts well. Attendance is a part of your grade. 2-3 small assignments per week. She is strict about things like you can't be late, don't sleep in class, etc. That kind of professor. You can't really talk to her outside of class, but the TA was okay!
She is a very good teacher, but go into the class knowing you are going to have to put the work in. Curves test slightly.
Accounting is tough but not too bad as long as you just don't fall behind early. However, Professor Rivers definitely made my time more enjoyable as she is passionate about what she teaches and really wants her students to succeed. Do the work and try and you will get an A, no doubt.
Professor Rivers is the best professor for 2101, the class is very difficult but she makes it much better with good examples and a great explanation on every topic. She tries her best to keep the class engaged and get to know everyone which is amazing and would often play music at the beginning of class. Test heavy but study hard, SKOOLERS.
Well-educated, lectures are fast, but GO TO OFFICE HOURS. She really does want to help, but also clearly values class time to teach the things she has planned. She is so approachable outside of class and super helpful. Learn how to use textbook resources (they're a little annoying but actually useful). Hard class, but take her and engage.
Very Knowledgeable of the material, if you have high expectations for the difficulty of the class you will do fine. She expects a lot out of you, but it allows you to learn the material.
This class is incredibly difficult, but Rivers helps where she can. Take advantage of office hours, and understand the reading before class. Very tough class, and you have to study a lot. Start studying for the exams like two weeks in advance.
She teaches fast, so I taught myself most of the content. If you need help, I would ask questions after class or during office hours because she is better at explaining concepts one-on-one. You can also email her with questions. ELC assignments and quizzes were more useful to study for exams than MBC assignments, but go over both if you have time.
Intermediate I is an incredibly difficult class, but Rivers helps as much as she can. Try your best to understand the content before class. Start studying for the exams a few weeks out, I slacked off for the second exam and it knocked me down from a B+ to a B. Don't underestimate the class, but Rivers will do her best to help you!
Professor Rivers was not the worst accounting professors I've ever had, she was by far my least favorite. She's a harsh grader who makes her tests way more difficult than they need to be and is not lenient when it comes to grading. Her lectures & teaching style are mundane which is made worse when she requires attendance. Do not take her if you can
Take her in the Fall. Do not take Bhandarkar in the Spring. Rivers' class has at home quizzes with lockdown browser, but you have 6 hours to take it. Also, the homework is completion, rather than an actual grade. She provides multiple practice problems on eLC and mBC & practice tests and office hours. Attendance is mandatory and tests are hard.
This was a tough class but Professor Rivers is there to support you!! This is a foundation that will stick with me in my future accounting classes, and I had to dedicate a lot of time to this class, but it definitely helps to do as much practice and study as as hard as you can before exams. Exams are tough but doable if you put in the work.
A lot of work in accounting I and it is hard sometimes because accounting is not the most interesting but financial accounting is very important to learn regardless if you pursue accounting as a major or career path so definitely try and with rivers as your teacher you can definitely get an A.
Intermediate I was quite challenging. Professor Rivers is extremely smart and will always provide a high-level overview of the content, but that can make it hard to digest everything she throws at you. Continuously studying is necessary to succeed. The tests are three hours long and require every ounce of brainpower you have.
She is a great professor but explains like we are all ACCT majors or professionals. Does not take the time in class to actually explain the reading quizzes cause they are supposed to explain the class, it is a vicious cycle, not one that I liked.
This class is tough and Rivers holds her students to high standards. But if you put in effort before and during class, you can get a good grade. She explained the material in depth, and posted all of her slides on eLC. She is strict about professionalism and being on time and sleeping in class. Also Skoolers will make your life so much easier.
Very clear on what you need to know. There is a tophat attendance grade. Shes okay at explaining things but practice tests are very similar to actual test
I love this woman so much - you can tell she really cares about helpful you learn the material and getting you to understand something that you've most likely never had any experience with. All of that being said, get Skoolers. The practice tests are the most helpful for exams, but by far the hardest exams I've had to take in college thus far.
Professor Rivers was genuinely so caring and was very dedicated to teaching. You could tell she really cares about her students. Class isn't terribly difficult, study skoolers hard, and you will get an A. With that being said, your professor really doesn't matter, but Professor Rivers makes it very enjoyable.
She is an amazing lecturer. She is very engaging and will share personal stories which made the class much more engaging. Accounting is a hard class but she wants you to excel. She provides many examples and practice problems to make sure you are prepared. Absolutely take if you can.
The class is based on the textbook, and barely any content is taught in class lectures; not a lot of practice is given to study for exams unless you purchase study materials outside of class. Accounting is not the hardest to understand, but they do not provide enough study material unless you can spend extra money on each test. She does not curve.
Professor Rivers is on the tougher side but she lets you know that at the beginning and lets you know what her expectations are. Attendance is taken on Top Hat, you get 3 absences. She is very good as long as you come to class and take notes. She also has some extra credit and there are 2-3 textbook quizzes/ week but you don't have to read it.
Go to class, ask questions, don't need to read the textbook and Skoolers definitely helps.
Accounting 1 professor doesn't matter too much; Skoolers will accomplish most of your learning and test preparation.
She's real nice and she wants to see her students succeed, however, it is a weed out class for Terry so it absolutely blows. Understand the content inside and out before each test, you get one opportunity to drop a test for your final, which I don't recommend because that final is atrocious.
She is clear about expectations for the class and coaches you through it.
If you're wondering... should I take ACCT 5001 with Jennifer Rivers? Don't think twice. Take it. Two things: 1) this class itself is the best thing that has ever happened to the finance major, it will help you profoundly; 2) Professor River makes this difficult, but it's good intent & you will succeed w/ heavy prep, engagement, and focus. 10/10
One of my favorite teachers I have had in college. Her lectures are very easy to understand and a great resource when you are going back to study. I think the class is very similar to ACCT 2101, so if you excelled in that class, this class will be a piece of cake. She was always open to questions and to chatting about our personal lives!
Accounting is a hard course, but Rivers really cares for her students. Read the textbook chapter before taking notes in class. The tests are worth the most, so I would recommend using Skoolers, as well as other practice tests that she posts.
I loved Professor Rivers but know accounting is a tricky class. It's one of those classes where you are made for it or not. She taught at 8am but still came in with the best attitude and tried to make class enjoyable and accessible for all. Uses Top Hat for attendence and made us sign in if late. Loved her tho and would take again.
Take this professor if you want to learn and do well in accounting. She is very caring and wants her students to learn and do well. Accounting is not easy but you have the best chance with her.
This course is difficult, however, I believe that the professor does a good job at making the course more difficult than it seems by over-covering topics and focusing on everything rather than what will be on test. It is done for a reason, to properly prepare you, but Skoolers does a better job at keeping it more concise and test relevant.
Too difficult to be an elective. Myself and others didnt feel the study material matched the exams. Big group project in the end and daily group work in class. She lectured in a way where you need to come in knowing a bit more accounting than you probably will. Not worth it for the amount of work to what you learn and how much time you spend on it.
Rivers is awesome and she definitely wants you to succeed by hardwork. She is super personable and honestly convinced me to switch to accounting as my major.
Professor Rivers is THE professor to take for 2101, as she really understands and cares for her students and has relevant professional experience within the field. She keeps lectures as interesting as possible and makes a weed-out course manageable. Attendance is graded so as long as you show up and read you should at least be able to make a B.
Professor Rivers is passionate about the subject and truly cares about her students. 2101 is not an easy class, especially as it is very fast-paced, but Rivers teaches the information very well. I came away from the course feeling like I truly understood what I had been taught. Would take again in a heartbeat. Come to every class and study hard!!
Intermediate 1 is hard but I do not think it is as bad as people make it out to be. Rivers explains concepts clearly and provides plenty of practice problems. There are quizzes over every chapter which are in class and pretty hard if you do not know what you're doing. Just study consistently, go to class, and ask questions and you'll be fine.
Other teachers teach the material better. Strict attendance and crazy about professionalism. Calls students out in front of the class for not paying attention and randomly asks them to answer questions. Lectures are not interesting.
This is a hard class, but Rivers makes it possible to succeed. Her lectures are very easy to follow, and she makes it possible to learn as she teaches rather than learning outside of class. The quizzes are very similar to tests. Rivers is overall a very nice professor who wants her students to succeed.
She is my favorite acct professor! I took her for acct 2021 so I obviously took her acct 5000 class. She makes sure every student understands the concepts and is very helpful in office hours. she's really understanding and gives all the material needed to do well. exams are difficult but studying can make them feel easy.
Dr. Rivers is a great professor who clearly demonstrates both her teaching experience and her in-depth understanding of the material. Make sure to start studying early for exams so you can fully grasp the content. Her quizzes are a great way to check whether you truly understand each chapter. Definitely come to class!
