Dr. SchnellWOMANN as we learned she has been called at her previous school is a delight. She is a rare prof who descends from the COM to deliver classes on main campus. YES! She is verbally and physically funny and at the core, kind. Her motto is "Where are you going? How can I help you get there." Great woman; great science. Good times!
I heard about Prof S from others who took her classes. She is the only source of pharmacology on the undergrad campus. Many of us, for the first time, learned about drugs, which we need for medical school. That she taught pharmacy, med and grad students means she has seen it all. She is brilliant and funny. I wish she taught all undergrad science.
Dr S is cool. Students who take one of her classes end up taking all of them. She is the only intense pharmacology resource for undergrads. I got so much more than pharmacology, too. I learned how to craft a personal statement and what goes into letters of rec from faculty. Generous lady. Smart, funny, irreverent.
This generous woman allowed ALL OF US to be contributing authors on a book because she thought we'd be at an advantage for medical/pharmacy/other schools. She gave about 1,000 hours of her time to get us published. My parents were impressed and grateful. UA is AMAZING and Dr. S is part of that culture of caring and nurturing. I LOVE HER.
Dr. Schnellwomann, as we call her, is electric. The school was smart to have her offer this new course in a new major because people sign up for multiple classes taught by her, just to "take" her. She can riff spontaneously, responding to all student questions and them resume lecture. She's like a little human encyclopedia. Awesome prof!
This woman was the first to call out my shoddy writing by flunking me on a scientific writing assignment. Yes, I did a crap job. Yes, she caught it and failed me. Then, she contacted me, told me I could do better, and made an appointment with me (on HER time) to help me. The tough love she showed me made me a better student and writer. Grateful.
A truly incredible woman... Shes so hilarious & intelligent that Im shockingly sad class is only once a week. Quizzes are easy as you pay attention in lecture; shes so entertaining. She loves to help you too, you can email her about any topic under the sun & shell reply. 350 characters isnt enough to express how great this woman is.
I took this class (human performance pharmacology) not knowing what pharmacology was. I like this so much I signed up for all of her classes. I have never seen a prof teach so many topics. I was impressed by the depth she covered and how she could answer any question tossed her way. I changed my major because of her. She made me love pharmacology.
Great professor. Will typically give you real-life advice if you are seeking medical school, pharmacy school, and will also help by giving great advice about each profession to give you an idea if that career path is right for you. Would not recommend emailing her on the weekend, she has no obligation to respond to students, ask with this in mind.
Dr S's book, Pharmacy Confidential, got me accepted to pharmacy school and a 4.0 for the past 2 years. She is a phenomenal teacher but don't overlook her many books (she won't mention them). Her inside information about professional schools is A+. Get her book and get a PharmD on the first try. Amazing woman; generous person. No one better.
Blew me away with so many pharmacology details. Get the impression she knows every drug on the market (and off) and every toxicant. Whirlwind lectures, fast talker, able to take a question and get back on track seamlessly. Funny beyond belief and totally human. Wish she taught all science courses. She teaches science as it should be taught.
Favorite professor and favorite class! Her knowledge combined with her humor make me so sad class is once a week and 50 minutes. I could sit in a three hour lecture of hers probably daily. I learn SO much. PCOL196D for 1 credit is the BEST. I've learned more than my 3 credit classes with less work.
My favorite professor of all time. I learned more in her one unit course about my future career in healthcare than I did in any of my other upper-level science classes. I HIGHLY recommend any future health care provider take AT LEAST PCOL196D with her. But me, I look forward to taking as many classes of hers that I can.
Dr. S taught me more "medicine" than my premed major. Practical, thorough, and honest, she delivers hard truths that often shock more naive students. Honors hard working students by NOT letting lazy students grade grub when they mistake kindess for stupidity. She is not stupid. Take her classes: be more than competitive for medical school.
She is sooooo funny, caring and real. She will tell you how it is but not in a rude way in a constructive way. I love her so much please please PLEASE take her!
No one funnier or smarter. Lightning fast lectures, can pivot to answer a question and resume the topic, and she can answer anything (verified all her answers; dead right). Shockingly honest, humble, real. Doesn't have to teach undergrads (she's a med/pharm school prof); does so because she believes science/medicine belongs to everyone. ENROLL NOW!
Best seminar ever. Gives an amazing overview of important drug classes and introduces pharmacokinetics in a fun and memorable way. Gives you tools for medical and pharmacy school 4 years before you need them (if a freshman). After this class, I took the rest of her courses. Explains medicine and drugs better than anyone.
This is the first class that held me accountable for writing ability. Freshman comp was a joke and misled me about my garbage writing skills. Dr S painstakingly gives line-by-line feedback to every student for every assignment (WOW) and turns your writing around. She shows real examples of communication failures in medicine and how writing matters.
TAKE THIS! The best overview of my major ever. Kicks a** in class and FUNNY AF! One guy asked her to explain 3 different drugs every time class met because he heard about them where he worked. She nailed it, never knowing what he'd ask. Doctors don't know that many drugs. Took the rest of her classes just to keep the fun going. Learned lots. WOW!
Best lecturer in the entire line up for this class. Knows everything it seems. Considerate when students are rude and challenging to her. Wish she taught most of the series! Great information and she offers real-life practical tie-ins so everything makes sense.
Prof was not very warm in helping the class. We were doing scientific writing but she would not give us a chance for small errors. There was lecture only once a week where she would explain do's and dont's of the assignments but was not very clear on what we were supposed to do and what was expected of us.
The most demanding prof ever. Gives great examples and explanations, but I can see that some students will simply be unable to deal. Wants our tuition to be a real ROI by setting high expectations and not bending when people try to get away with less. I will be a better writer because of this class, although it almost killed me.
This class is a weeder class for health professional & grad school in the BSPS major. If you cannot pass, you likely cannot do the harder work later. Only the best survive and some learn for the first time that they are not prepared for college and beyond. I loved the rigor and relentlessness because it replicates medical/pharmacy school.
This is my dream class. I'd hoped pharmacy school would be just like this, so to get it 4 years early is fun. We laugh so hard we cry and Dr. S busts many popular myths. The best overview of medicine and pharmacy! Many take the class who don't want an MD/PharmD because it is so amazing. Some even change their major after taking this class.
Amazing educator. She's tough, but the class is meant to be hard. If you can't write, you won't make it into medical/ pharmacy/ graduate school. She teaches well, is available outside of class, and is always willing to help if you ask. You get out what you put into this class.
I learned more about writing and science in this course than in other "science" courses. I have never worked so hard for my grade. We come to college to learn, but most of us really don't want that challenge. Dr. S does not back down from her high standards for whiners. I appreciate the work needed to write better and I am more ready for a career.
Schnellmann designed the only undergrad tox course at UA and she offers it year-round, which makes access easy. I was impressed with the depth of the material and her ability to answer anything asked. We busted so many myths with science and her discussions in D2L expanded our ability to ask questions/get more info. No better class out there!
Dr. S teaches as if you were medical students: high expectations and no nonsense. She respects athletes as well, something unusual in science. Her pharmacology class is full of nutrition majors and a few pre-meds and she respects their views, too. Not an easy A. You'll read real science, too. Many take all of her classes after just one. AMAZIN!
This class offers information you will not get anywhere else, putting you at an advantage for medical/pharmacy school. She also weaves life lessons learned from teaching MD/PharmD students, which is very useful. I feel like the content was tailored just for me. If you want to change a topic, you can vote and she gives that talk the next week. WOW!
This is the only class offering science on every PE out there. Every athlete and nutrition sci major should take this. Instructor is brilliant and hilarious. Sense of humor! Half of quizzes are from lecture so PPTs alone will not get you an A. Cannot read the literature? Won't pass. Many sign up thinking it an easy A. False.
Great class and instructor. Schnellmann is FAIR. She won't allow students who blow off class to re-attempt discussions/quizzes when they cry about their "A". Deadlines are repeated 5 times for every grade opportunity which is beyond fair. Finally a prof who won't yield to the entitled trophy kids. Great content, funny lectures, real world stuff.
Take 196! There is no better overview of medicine around. Schnellmann is the most gifted speaker I've ever heard. SHE CAN TELL A STORY that leaves half of the class sobbing. Then, she pivots and scares your hair off, and then ends with all of us laughing like drunks. The best class I HAVE EVER taken. I'm enrolling in all she has to offer.
Part drill-sargent, part mom. Clear grading criteria (repeated 4 times for each item). Best scientific descriptions on campus. Good literature selection and NO quizzes are not entirely from slides and SHOULD NOT BE. Actually lectures instead of reading slides like most lazy professors. Don't push her on petty crap. She will shove back. FAIR GRADER.
Dr. Schnellmann does not lecture but she weaves colorful stories. Time speeds by and you are jolted when she finally says, "Go! Get outta here!" She does interpretive dances for every session because she acts out what she is saying. Hilarious and charming, too. We signed up for the rest of her courses, filling them to capacity. That says it all.
Scientific Writing is a challenging class for a lot of people. Dr. Schnellmann offers so many resources to help you improve: writing workshops, example podcasts, some templates, in-class time, and a few assignment-redos. Syntax and grammar need to be perfected. Fact-based and error-free writing only! Follow directions exactly and you wil do fine.
The Controversies seminar is the best class I've had. The volume of info is incredible, but delivered well. I look forward to going and wish we met more. If you want to be in healthcare, this class is essential. You will know SO MUCH medicine from one semester. Schnellmann is hilarious, thought-provoking, and fair. Professor of the YEAR!
Schnellman's freshman seminar is amazing and we cover everything about drugs. It is a perfect class to decide what you want to do in medicine. People who take this class try to take all of her classes because she is amazing and can answer any question (this is weird!). She can be challenging which makes people uncomfortable, but its ok.
If you are going to medical or pharmacy school, this is a must. I bet you've never heard of the topics she covers and they are essential for anyone heading into healthcare. She says on day 1, "THIS IS NOT A SAFE SPACE!" but it is. She is respectful of every opinion and defuses more aggressive students with humor. Do not skip this opportunity.
By far the best teacher I've had. This is my second class with her and I will be taking more!
BEST CLASS EVER! I never knew what was in non-drug items such as soap, shampoo, etc. She shares all of this so if you want to be a pharmacist, you know everything behind the counter as well as ALL OVER THE PHARMACY! She is amazing, funny, and I cannot think of something she does not know. TAKE THIS CLASS. It was like a party.
This woman taught me to write. No other professor reads every word of every paper of every student. SHE DOES. No one corrected my grammar and spelling like she did. If your professors are not giving you the feedback she does, to make you better, THEY DON'T CARE or they cannot be bothered with you! You will be mad, but you will be able to WRITE!
396 Controversies is the best class I've had at the U. We covered everything about medicine, and most of us had never heard of these topics. You are not ready to apply to medical school if you don't have an opinion about what we covered. This woman is amazeballs. FUNNY and humble, but tough as a pitbull. We loved this and didn't want it to end.
The best mentor I have ever had. I am devastated to be graduating and not seeing her on a regular basis. I made a pharmacology thematic minor that was made up of all her classes. I cannot recommend this wonderful lady enough. She is real and honest, funny and witty, and smart as hell. The most fruitful courses I have ever taken.
Scientific writing is essential for everything we want to do as professionals but she is the only one who teaches it. Rubrics are CLEAR and grading is generous. This may be the only rigor you get in undergrad. Be glad for it. She creates more writing opportunities for us than anyone. Hard, fair, smart, kind. You will not get better than Dr S.
Dr. S gets a lot of heat for having high standards. She deals with a lot of sno-flakes. She was the first prof who was worth my tuition. Do as she asks, follow instructions, and quit whining. You will learn more than you've ever learned in college. She transformed me as a writer and a student. The best online/remote prof ever. She gets it.
Dr S is the best lecturer Ive had. She is clear, honest, and direct. Honestly, if you cannot pass, you dont belong here. She tells the best stories and seems to remember everything she reads and hears. To succeed, just read the syllabus, which you should do anyway, every time. Attend and you get an A. That is it. You can even watch the video she
TAKE THIS NOW. If you want the best overview of medicine in the world, sign up. One credit, just listen, no assignments. Discussions are optional but YOU GET SO MUCH if you do these. She answers every one, almost 12,000 a year. By hand, alone. No one is this generous or smart. INTERFACE WITH THIS WOMAN. I've never learned so much. GENIUS!
If you go into medicine, you must take this. You will learn so much about your profession that YOU DO NOT KNOW. This is part law/part pharmacology and all medicine. The best lectures and discussions I've ever seen. Brilliant instructor and the best content around. TAKE THIS!
This course is a hidden gem. EVERYONE who considers medicine and pharmacy needs this. One credit and only listening to the best lecturer you've ever heard. I have never seen someone live zoom, while reading the chat, answering questions, and never missing a beat. TRY TO STUMP HER. You can't. Take this to see what medicine IS!
She blew my mind with medicine. I learned more that I thought I could and every topic was another WHOOOAA! This is the best class in the U. Take this if you want the best overview of drugs and classes of drugs. Best pre-med/pre-pharm course of all. HILARIOUS, thought-provoking and an ABSOLUTE thrill. LOVED IT!
I cannot write well, but she helped me to do better. No instructor takes as much time as she does with every thing you write. She really does the impossible. Take this to make yourself better at really hard things. Your self-respect will hit the roof if you can stand the early criticism. She is fair and kind, too, something rare in a hard grader.
Professor is humorous which keeps students coming to the zoom lecture. Easy class to get at least a B. Inflexible teacher so do NOT miss a class or assignment for ANY reason as you will be unable to get an A. Assignments are due by 5pm (3hrs after class is over) which is ridiculous if you have other classes or work. No make-up work or extensions.
Dr. Schnellmann is clearly very knowledgeable about what she is teaching. She is a bit intense but only because she wants to make sure you are prepared for graduate school. The class itself was easy. All you have to do is show up once a week for 50 mins to a lecture and then there is an optional discussion post once a week. Would recommend!
If you think you are going into medicine/pharmacy, you must take this. You have no idea what you do not know (AT ALL) until you sit a semester with Schnellman. I learned so much about medicine (my brother, an MS2 knew none of this) that I tell all pre-meds to take this very enjoyable course. Attend and discuss for an A (I didn't do this so well :()
This professor is an amazing woman. She answers questions, makes jokes, and gives helpful materials to satisfy the students curiosity. She is beyond smart and just all around fun to listen to. She personally interacts with all students which is a nice change from some other classes. This course is a seminar so there are no actual grades.
I was very unsatisfied with this class because of the fact how strict she was regarding attendance. We're in the middle of a pandemic & online classes are already hard as it is. She didn't go over the curriculum properly and is kind of rude. I changed my major because in order to take pharmacy classes I would need to deal with her, no thanks :(
Dr S is a lifechanger. Yes, this course is the hardest one Ive taken but the suffering was worth it. She has the humility to share her insecurities and lets those be a basis for helping you be more self-aware about your writing and speaking. This protects us & allows us to be more professional so that we attract the best job
This seminar was the wildest experience of my life. Ive had Dr S in other classes, and she is funny AF but this is an event. Her energy is crazy and brilliant. She has every student on the edge of the seat, waiting for the next COMPLETELY ridiculous thing she will say and then weave into a scientific fact that I didnt know. If all of my sience cl
Rigorous course dedicated to identifying future MDs, PharmDs, and PhDs. Be ready to learn what you need for your future. Many students think they can wait her out, getting a good grade with little work. This is as false here as it would be in medical or graduate school. I was glad she was tough on me because no one else cared. READS EVERY WORD!
An absolute queen.
The most informative class Ive taken in 4 years. SO much medicine and science in such an easy to understand format. Schnellmann can explain anything to you. It was fun to watch her answer every question posed every week without blinking an eye. All UA professors should be able to do this, have this level of expertise.
Most people in this class do not want to work that hard which is sad because there is absolutely equal opportunity for every person but not equal outcomes. She is available to every student individually, but most refuse the help. Be prepared for classmates blaming instructor for their laziness (HATE THAT). Best prep for medical/pharm school around.
Probably the most honest professor you'll get at uarizona, she is very upfront. No exams, just weekly quizzes and discussions which made the class less stressful. You will learn so much about toxicology in this class and she busts so many myths it's crazy. I would recommend her to anyone!
She pushes you to do better
Would definitely NOT recommend this teacher. If given an opportunity, take someone else!!
An easy pass fail class- just show up. Schnellman has strong opinions and everything's black and white. It's funny and things maybe should be taken with a grain of salt sometimes. Tons of good info though, diverse and relatable topics, would 100% recommend to any prehealth major, not just pharmacy!
I took toxicology with Schnellman and would in general recommend for students interested in weird medicine and lots of fun facts. Biochem heavy and very quick pace, though the quizzes are online and open note so it's not that stressful. These quizzes are the only grades. Maybe not super useful in my future but I'd be better at trivia now!
Tries very hard to reach everyone while understanding that some students will never be able to write and will never be admitted to pharmacy/medical school, which is admirable. Launches students to their goal programs more than any prof at the U. If you just follow directions (and there are many and they are highly specific) you earn an A.
Think of this as a sneak peek into MD, PharmD, PhD programs as content is 100% relevant to all (she has taught in all programs). Presents more peer-reviewed science than you can possibly read. EXCELLENT training for professional/grad school. Actually teaches medicine to undergrads and so far, the only one I know who does. Full of FUN FACTS!
This seminar features so much medicine I was overwhelmed, but I feel very informed about my future. Introduces the medical literature to us and teaches us how to read it. Never offers HER opinion (in any class) but always directs you to the science. Can correctly answer any question asked of her and always has the patience for one more query.
Best classes at UA are hers. Shows us how to read science/medicine and find answers (never gives opinions, just facts). Tells about the hidden curriculum to help us navigate life. Kind, honest, many teaching awards, etc. Because she is in COM & COP, can tell you what both want in applicants. Two friends in med school thanks to her help.
Hard class but respected prof. Puts her money where her "lectures" are by doing more for students' goals than any other faculty. Wants us to sound and write professionally and to educated. Caring but very honest. Much behind the scenes work (students don't see). Criticized for being tough, but we've honestly been lied to about our writing.
SO MUCH fun to learn medicine in this unusual class. Well prepared for medical school due to content. Rigorous, science based, factual lectures and respectful discussions. This was the most in-depth thinking I've ever done. Impressive body of literature offered; clearly loves students and wants us to be prepared for medicine.
Good lecturer, funny, and keeps you engaged the whole hour. The topics discussed in class were super interesting. Gradebook is a discussion and quiz every week. There is also reading to do before the quiz, but the quiz is straightforward. No extra credit. Very strict with deadline and grades. Easy A if you do everything and attend class.
Schnellmann is very passionate about her career. This class was only attendance based, no homework or exams. She would keep you focused the whole lecture, the topics were very interesting. This class didn't count with your GPA, so you can receive a P grade:) Easiest class I've taken and probably ever will lol
Dr. Schnellmann gives the most incredible lectures, if you have the chance to take this class, absolutely do! If you want to learn an incredible amount of pharmacology in an incredibly short amount of time, absolutely take this seminar. She is also very responsive to emails and will give you insider advice for med school or pharm school, just ask!
This class is 100% relevant to medical/pharmacy school. We are taught how to think and write logically. We also learn every aspect of either training program and we write a personal statement. No other class on campus offers this information which is necessary for admission. Glad she cares enough to show us these facts.
Awesome pre-lecture videos to orient us to the topic and explosive lectures that bust myths and have us laughing at others as well as ourselves. She is totally accessible and real and easy to like. Very cool.
Dr. S teaches more classes than any other professor at UA. Most students sign up for every class after one class. She presents a flood of science and medicine in every lecture and we don't know how she does this back to back across courses with ZERO notes. She is the best resource for med/pharm school. THE BEST LETTER WRITER!
This was the hardest class I've ever taken mostly because no other writing prof read my work at all. Dr. S cares about your ability and they way you appear to others (educated or not). You can get upset at being criticized or you can be grateful that this is the only person who cares about your success. PICK ONE.
This course changed my perspective on medicine. I am more savvy now in my knowledge. Dr. Schnellmann gives lessons on life and healthcare that most of us don't get from our parents. She is MOM to us because she stays late and arrives early to talk to us. No one else does this.
Controversies is a great class. Like all of Schnellman's classes, super easy. Two short discussion posts per week. Covers a variety of issues from a variety of perspectives. Some of the things she says are a little out there and some statements are mildly exaggerated, but it's a great starting place for info and gets you thinking without much work.
Dr S was an outlier in a pretty dry course. She was engaging and helpful and connected well to us. Her material is complex and she knows a great deal. This class and her content were very useful.
I loved this course in cosmetics pharmacology. Girls and guys participated likely because of HER, not the content which was amazing. Dr. Schnellman is funny and approachable and able to answer any question. She takes emails all weekend and evening and will find papers for you. No one else does this.
This is the hardest writing course at UA and it overprepares you for medicine. No one else cares as much as she does and no prof reads every word you write. Her standards are higher than others so I was grateful to spend a semester being pounded like sand and emerging a much better writer. Many hate her honesty but they are insecure.
An unusual course that covers major drug classes but is accessible to ANY PERSON no matter what major. I took this as a biochem major and CHANGED my major because of her. She is funny and whip-smart and fast with answers and questions for you to think about. I have never seen a lecture or instructor like this. Taking more of her classes soon.
Dr. Schnellmann is such a wise woman in her field. Every lecture of hers is just filled with so much interesting information. She is an amazing lecturer and you learn SO much from her it's incredible. I could listen to her lecture for days on end, it's just a shame we only met once a week! The class is super easy, just quizzes and discussion posts.
This seminar crams more medicine into a lecture than I thought possible. Dr S is excited to teach the material and it makes you excited to be there.
Creates unprecedented opportunities for students and cares more than any professor I've had. She works harder than you will.
Dr. Schnellman simply rocks. If you simply go to class and pay attention you should be getting good scores due to how thorough she is and how she makes learning enjoyable. Lecture once a week with one discussion and quiz following. Incredibly smart and witty--she makes class memorable and invigorating. Learning has never been this fun!
Best prof, best class, best semester. Just realized that in the three classes I sat in back to back of hers, she used NO NOTES for anything. It was all from her brain. She can answer any question too. This class taught me more medicine than my other "premed" classes which clearly are not.
Dr. Schnellmann is an incredible lecturer and is brutally honest regarding the medical world. She discusses extremely relevant topics in medicine and healthcare and does not sugarcoat anything. This class is graded on attendance with the optional discussion post. If you are going into healthcare I highly recommend this course.
This was seminar so attendance was the only thing that was "graded" (+ optional discussion posts). If you are the slightest bit interested in the medical/pharmaceutical field, please take this course. She is an amazing speaker and extremely knowledgeable; she will literally have an answer to any question you may have.
This class is hard, but don't let that scare you. Dr. S's instructions are always incredibly clear, follow them and you will do fine. Always submit by the first submission deadline - it will help your grade substantially. No other professor will read every word that you write on every assignment, Dr. S does. Put in the time and you will succeed.
Very easy informative class. Offered a great overview of the medical and pharmaceutical fields. Discussion posts are a great way to ask burning questions, just be aware she can come off as very blunt, but always helpful
Incredible first run of a new course. SO PRACTICAL! Dr S is up the the usual excellence and relevance. We all thought that this was pretty important info for college students.
Dr. S reads everything, forcing you to pay attention to your writing. You will not be able to get away with sloppy and inattentive text and this is good. There is more to learn about scientific writing than you know; she covers all of it. I know I will be more competitive for medical school than any other grad in another major due to this course.
This is an incredible tox course because of the lectures and the extra resources she offers. Many students think this is the best class they've taken at UA and I agree. Tox is not a common topic and not taught in medical school. TAKE THIS class if you want to know more than a random average med student.
The hardest class at UA but worth it. If you just follow directions, you can succeed but most students are not used to being accountable. Pay attention, ask questions, and she will give you every minute you request and every bit of help you ask for...but asking is key. Fair, neutral, balanced grading. It does not get more helpful than this.
If you are interested in medicine, you want this course. I learned so much about healthcare. Every week was an incredible topic and Dr S is amazing with details and she teaches WITH NO NOTES! Every "pre med" needs this. I was asked three of her topics in my med school interview. .
This is a really fun course and it combines organic with pharmacology in a memorable way. If you want to laugh and think, go here! Dr. Schellman is very funny and really into the topic. SO GOOD!
This BSPS requirement is the best writing course you will ever take. AND YOU WILL EARN YOUR GRADE. She gives CLEAR and REDUNDANT instructions, many examples, free first deadline feedback, feedback videos for general errors, and holds discussions for anything else. SO If you don't make an A, it is on you for ignoring her MASSIVE and generous help.
Really simple and interesting class. So cool learning all about the things that we use in our every day lives and walk away with skills that you can actually use. Seems like a lot of work at first because it is hybrid but as long as you keep up with deadlines, its really manageable
This course should be mandatory for all college students. My mind was blown. Dr. S is highly respectful and says all the right things about controversial topics and she is the most aware and kindest prof to the LGBTQ+ community. AMAZING PERSON. INCREDIBLE COURSE. TAKE THIS NOW!
This professor is AMAZING!!! I've only been through 2 of her sessions in her Pharmacology Seminar, but holy cow!! I've learned so much already in the span of two weeks and two sessions that are actually useful to real life situations. She gives very easy, simple explanations paired with hilarious transitions that people can understand.
Dr S holds you to a higher level than you dreamed of and respects you by setting professional standards. It is a gift to be given insider information for how we will be evaluated in medical school. Difficult class, transparent policies and instructions, more resources than any other writing class. If you do poorly, you just did not pay attention.
Incredible information condensed well; brilliant presentation skills and a personality that keeps you rapt. Time flies. I wish this was daily.
Incredibly kind and provide incredible opportunities for all students. Works tirelessly to make sure we graduate with an actual education. No one better than this lady.
Incredibly easy class if you read directions and follow instructions. Holds you to the ultimate writing standard and ACTUALLY creates authors. Best prof ever. Whiny snowflakes beware!
Best writing prof at UA. Demanding, realistic, sets high standards because she wants you to look smart. If you are too childish to handle critique, skip it.
BEST COURSE AT UA! She gives an overview of every drug class important to college students and TEACHES MORE MEDICINE than any instructor. If you love medicine, you will LOVE THIS class.
Schnellmann teaches this and 7 more courses (I took most of them) every semester and these fill up the first week and close fast due to their popularity. I have never had so much fun and learned so much medicine, more than my med school roomates. Incredible content and expert delivery...can answer any question tossed her way. NEVER USES NOTES!
She believes in you more than you do! Caring, compassionate, and uplifting, she approaches all students as if they are highly competent future healthcare professionals, never talking down or dumbing down anything. Incredible and equitable learning opportunity.
Dr. S breadth of expertise allows her to explain biochem and phys processes better than most which helps with other classes. Because every lecture in every class is based on current, peer-reviewed science, it is accurate and useful. I have not found one idea presented to be incorrect; everything is very well researched.
This course was fun and I appreciated how Dr S was always inclusive of diversity and remarked on it weekly. Many products are made for Caucasians and she always carefully and kindly brought up underserved populations in thoughtful ways. I love how she uplifts everyone and cheers them on!
This course should be REQUIRED for every college student. I learned so much for my future family planning (or not). Dr S offers incredible FACTUAL information to keep college students safe and sane! Everyone should know how birth control works! We should know everything about pregnancy, etc! Dr S is respectrul, bold, and TOTALLY CORRECT!
Take this class to get an overview of how drugs work and major drug classes! If you are into medicine or healthcare, this is the best introduction I've seen. No tests; NO FINAL! Just show up and learn about drugs and disease states.
Dr. S lectures a few times in this course but she is a favorite and we look forward to her humor and good understanding of what students experience. She sat where you are sitting once...and she remembers. Very respectful and knowledgeable. Funny AF.
Dr S gives students in 305 more time and attention than they actually contribute to their own work. Since no other writing faculty cared/read our work, we arrived with much to learn/unlearn. Glad Dr. S cares about our education and how we appear to others...no one else seems to. Her goal for you is to survive, excel, be taken seriously.
This was legitimately my favorite class. I took it just for fun, it's one credit and fully attendance based. Dr. Schnellmann is super passionate about the subject which made her fun to listen to and made me interested in it, too. She also provides a TON of extra information on the D2L that is super helpful and interesting. I would take this again.
Amazing content. This brought together everything I was learning in science and added something new. Toxicology is not routinely offered so this was great. Loved how she tied medicine into EVERY TOPIC! Never laughed so hard or thought so deeply.
If you want to succeed in this course, PARTICIPATE! ASK questions and ANSWER her questions. She is very ready to help anyone who appears to care VIA PARTICIPATION!! The best assignments are the medication reconciliation as they let you show your drug expertise. This brings together all of the BSPS courses and it is FUN!
Dr. Schnellmann is well educated in her field and she is absolutely amazing, caring, and wants her students to learn. PCOL196D is only based on attendance, no quizzes, assignments, or tests. This class is fully to learn about pharmaceuticals.
Easy class even if you don't understand anything. 300 is completely made up of quizzes. They are timed.
This new class was pretty good and covered medicine-heavy topics. Discussions and readings and quizzes can get you an A. All of the information applied to every college student, whether they'd thought of it or not. Good and interesting.
This INCREDIBLE COURSE was the highlight of our semester. WOW! The energy and data driven lectures were outstanding. SO ENTERTAINING. Just show up, take the small quizzes and contribute to the bonus discussion for an A. YOU DO NOT KNOW MEDICINE If you have not had this course.
PCOL is unusual as you never learn this stuff anywhere else, but it is WILDLY popular. It will be online from now on, so I got the last live version. Schnellmann is funny and kind, very approachable. She wants you to do well which may be why of the 10 classes she teaches, this is the easiest to give everyone access to science.
This course changes lives. Schnellmann devotes her time to developing writers and authors which she does not have to do...as well as she does. Scary at first (has written more than 20 books), but actually a really kind person when you TRY. Tough love for your writing is delivered but HEY, you likely cannot write well. Thank her.
THE ONLY PREMED GEN ED! AWESOME that we finally have a class for us! Schnellmann is pretty cool and knows tons about medicine and healthcare...and at the end, so will you. This class helped with my minimed interviews and helped me nail topics I'd not heard of and would have missed. This course is PREP for Med interviews.
By far the smartest person I have ever met.
300 is composed of only quizzes. They are time but easy. You can pass if you don't go to class.
313 is easy. Discussions are 10% and times quizzes are 90%. You can pass if you don't go to class. She gave individual (Not depending on average of how many stuent did it) extra credit for the class survery.
320 is easy. Discussions are 10% and timed quizzes are 90%. You can pass even if you don't go to class. She gave individual (not based on class average submisssions) extra credit for the class survey.
Dr. Schnellman will find a way to keep you on the edge of your seat during the entire lecture, and you will learn so much in such a short period without feeling super overwhelmed. I really enjoyed this class and it helped me solidify my decision to pursue a career in pharmacy.
Good luck getting any attendance excused, even if you are in the hospital. She is inconsiderate and rude. For someone in the medical field, you would think she would understand.
We had to write a paper a week and if the paper did not follow her formatting to a T, you would get significant points marked off. As the semester went on, she did get a little bit easier on grading, but I did not think that I was going to get an A for a long time. The lectures are very interesting but get a little repetitive towards the end.
Attendance isn't mandatory and only one discussion and quiz due a week. Her lectures are so awesome and funny I often went even though I didn't need to. Ended with an A easily.
Rude and very strict. Doesn't provide instructions on how to do assignments because she wants attandance. Grades harshily. If assignments are not done the way she wants, zero. Formatting seems to be at many times more importnat than the content itself.
I loved the way she lectured this class. It was a great introduction to the pharmaceutical sciences major.
Jennifer is VERY INTENSE but she knows her stuff. This class was very informative and you only get graded on attendance, discussions and a final paper, there really is no way you can not end with an A. Overall super easy building connections and the topic is very interesting and I am not even a pre-med major!
Dr S is the best writing instructor at UA. She prepares you for the real world, whether you like that or not. Unfairly criticized for being rigorous (no comp class came close), she cares, works harder than we do, and launches new authors on her own time. BEST PROF AT UA!
This premed gen ed is the best gen ed to take. You get to complete a signature assignment with her, too. She offers more feedback than any other professor and helps you all the way. No one is as dedicated or devoted to your success...and you will succeed in ways that you never imagined.
This should be mandatory. Dr. S is passionate and caring, letting her empathy for all set the tone in this respectful, often hilarious, deeply thoughtful course. It was the best class I've ever taken. Not hard to get an A if you just follow directions (simple). Perfect pacing and content. DO NOT PASS UP THIS COURSE!
The lectures are interesting and she is super passionate but given the fact there was only one quiz and lecture per week missing one can be detrimental to your grade. Don't bother asking her how things are graded she is straight up back handed and disrespectful to students even though her grade book counts a wide range of scores as a 3/4 on D2L.
Dr. Schnellmann was an outstanding professor If you complain about attendance and your grade, idk why you're in school. All you have to do is be in class one day a week for less than an hour, and write a discussion post that takes 1 hour max weekly. Dr. Schnellmann knows the content VERY well and every week her lectures are extremely interesting.
Probably the most interesting class I've taken, this content should be mandatory for anyone in healthcare. Dr. S is the best lecturer I've had, incredibly engaging, funny, thought-provoking, informative, and direct. Just attend class and follow the instructions, easy A. Genuinely shocked at how messed up our healthcare system is.
Great Professor! Although a little intimidating at first, she is filled with knowledge and is a good resource. I'm glad I took this class as it opened my eyes to aspects of healthcare I never thought of!
Im shocked to see she has such high reviews. She's a good lecturer and is extremely knowledgable on what she teaches, but the way she treats and talks to students is unlike anything i've ever seen from a professor. She is extremely passive-aggressive, def not the type you'd feel comfortable to ask a question to.
This premed gen ed was the best course I've ever taken. Dr. S's content was exciting and interesting. I really did not know anything about medicine until this class. It should be mandatory. SUPER interesting professor and great story teller!
BEST CLASS at U of A and best professor. AMAZING lectures, captivating and real. I recommend this course to everyone as it is the best gen ed ever. EVER!
This is the hardest writing course on campus and she makes it doable and great. Don't read evals by whiners who don't want to excel and have an advantage for medical school. Just get in there and do the work. BEST PROFESSOR we've ever had.
Dr. Schnellmann is an incredible professor who can provide great insight into scientific writing and the process of genuine research. Her rigidity in grading comes not from a need to put students down, but to raise them up to a standard of excellence many have never thought possible of themselves. Be prepared, read a lot, and you'll do well.
She is an amazing professor and everyone should take this course. I have never learned so much in such a short period of time, and after this class I feel much more knowledgable in so many aspects of healthcare. She is funny, opinionated, and clear with her expectations. I looked forward to this class every single week.
I am truly baffled to see such high scores for her. She may be an accomplished author, but I don't know why she teaches if she hates answering questions so much. I learned less about writing well and more about how to fit her exact template. She is downright rude to students in a way that is lacking basic human decency. I would never recommend her.
This course is only for serious pre-health students, so it is rigorous. Don't read reviews from whiners who could not keep up. Students who can hit deadlines and learn things quickly appreciate her standards for for holding students to them. Glad she cares enough to be tough. Great reputation; tremendous professor.
This course should be mandatory. Dr. S created this to show pre-meds how medicine could better serve everyone by preventing disease and it is an eye-opener. Looking for an easy A? Skip it. Want to actually know something valuable? Sign up. I know I will appreciate her more over time, too. UAs best professor; hands down.
This first ever pre-med GENED is incredible. SO MUCH MEDICINE! Great lectures, hilarious anecdotes, and a passion I have never seen. She has almost a cult like following so the courses fill fast (hours to days). I had a great time and rode a rollercoaster of emotion over the topics. INCREDIBLE WOMAN.
I wish I had more space to write. So mean. Will give you a 0 if you even format it slightly wrong. She is condescending when it comes to your writing and will call you uneducated and belittle you. So discouraging, honestly should be reported to UA.
Best prof oat
Easy and interesting class but genuinely the rudest and most unprofessional professor I have ever talked to. Her ratings are high because her class is incredibly easy, I spent maybe 25 minutes on this class per week (outside of attendance) and got an A. Just get that A and get out, do not interact with her unless absolutely necessary.
Funny during lectures, gives personal experiences and shares stories relating to lecture, gives honest opinions always while still being respectful to others. Only assigns discussions which are easy to get As on but don't get lazy or your grade will reflect that. Attendance is taken in class via online quiz (requires passcode to begin).
Insanely rude and condescending, will give feedback on your papers such as "It cannot be.", "? I am lost", "Again.", and "Meaningless as written". Not only is she needlessly aggressive with these, they are so unhelpful that they can barely be considered feedback. Success in this class is down to trial and error more than any actual learning.
She is very rude to students. She makes the class harder than it should. Not recommended. Gives feedback that is rude and has high expectations still.
Rude. Disrespectful. Unclear feedback. Not recommended.
such a good class it was so interesting and she was so funny and entertaining and I learned a lot
I don't know why she teaches if she hates answering questions so much. I learned less about writing well and more about how to fit her exact template. She is downright rude to students in a way that is lacking basic human decency. I would never recommend her.
Jennifer hates emails and being asked questions. If you ever want to ask a question, be ready to hear something that will make you upset for the entire semester.
The lectures were so amazing and Schnellmann's really good at explaining concepts students might not be familiar with. The grading for the short weekly discussion posts was easy as long as you followed the guidelines with super detailed feedback. Communicated effectively and respectfully.
Her expectation are beyond graduate school level with this class especially. I took two other elective classes with her. She is a different person in 305.
Good luck asking any questions and getting an answer. She is extremely disrespectful and does not value your efforts.
