Things are not clear on what you need to study for her tests. She didn't even know what she was teaching day to day. Want to be confused and fail, take her.
Her classes may start as a full class but they will always end with around 10 people. at the beginning she is not helpful at all, but as the class gets smaller and smaller then she becomes more helpful. do the objectives that she gives you and come to class and you shouldnt have a problem at all
The class started out at like 30 people, then by the withdrawal date there were only 8 left. I had to drop this class because I knew I would not pass. She assumes that all of the students taking her class are already doctors and we can learn every single bone and part of the body in one day. You have to be a genius to pass this class!
Ms Shaw is awesome! She is a very good teacher but she is tough. Don't think you can be lazy and do good in her class. Do her lecture objectives and you will do very well on the tests! Do lab objectives BEFORE class and always be prepared for a quiz! If you study, your quizes can help boost your grade
This profesor has about a 65% drop rate. If you have NOTHING other than this class then your ok if you MEMORIZE the book and models.I had her for A&P2. this is the first class i had to drop ever. Her lectures are vague&off topic alot. She doesnt help unless youve spent 20min trying to find the answer.NO HELP.NO CLARITY.CONFUSING TESTS.NOT RECOMENDED!
Test average for her class is 75. That's just passing!Expects more from you and doesn't expect the same for herself.
Take heed to the majority of the comments posted here.Lecture took studying 24/7 and lab was like going to class without a teacher. In all of my 60+ credits, I've never experienced a professor like this- that's not a positive note. This course is hard but P. Shaw makes it extremely difficult & really doesn't need to.
My mother always told me if you have nothing nice to say, keep it shut!
STAY AWAY FROM HER: This is perhaps the worst teacher I've ever had. Her goal is to show you how much she knows & how little you do. She shows absolutely no interest in whether or not you pass or fail. Shaw is certainly one who will leave a lasting impression on you in a negative way. Her jokes also border on insulting.
I made a mistake in listing the class I took with her. It's BHSC 2085 (A&P1), NOT Bio 240.
Prof. Shaw is a wonderful Professor. Anyone who has anything bad to say about her was a lazy student. She tells funny stories to keep long hours of class interesting, and gives every opportunity for extra credit possible. She is a wonderful true "teacher", not just someone with a degree. I love her, and look forward to A&P2 with her!
She is horrible, take my advice and DON"T take her.
This is the worst professor ever. Our Principals of Disease class had only 13 people left out of 30. I am not a "lazy" student-she does not want to see you pass. The only way you could ever pass her class is to take it by itself. There is NO time for other classes. If you would like to fail, take her.
Very good teacher. DO OBJECTIVES and STUDY them to do well on tests! She really does want her students to learn the material well.
She is on a total power trip and wants nothing more than to see you fail!
How does she still have a job? A complete incompetent. Stay as far away from this one as you can. If immaturity made for a good teaching style, she'd be the best. If you thought you had gotten past high school, with her, you are right back again.. and she is here to make sure you know you?re not one of the cool kids...
She doesn't explain or teach anything. All she does is ask questions during lecture...anyone...anyone...she gives off the impression that she wants to weed you out and wants you to fail. She uses scare tactics to get people to withdraw and she constantly makes you feel terrible if you have a question during lecture. Take someone else!!
This class made my life so miserable my fiance made me drop it. I have never worked so hard to do so poor in a class. I thought it was me until one day we had a substitute who was amazing. Shaw doesnt participate in lab but merely works on her own projects and lecture is so rudimentary compared to her tests. Only 1/3 of my class was left standing.
Collage is just this simple--lazy people who don't read and work don't pass. I did fine. Try taking some responsibility. Shaw is funny and tries to keep lecture interesting. I apprecated that.
if you don't do well in her class, it's not bc you are lazy, but bc she goes way too in depth.it's nice to know the meticulous details but not necessary in real world unless that is your major. lab your need to memorize every single slide and differentiate between the organs and their membranes.DONT TAKE HER PLEASEE!!!!
her tests are short essay and she acts like your going to be a surgeon, lab technician, or lab tissue major. U only need to know the basics for nursing.she goes too deep. Waste of money, good thing i was on a grant. the money ain't come out of my pocket.
Shaw is very insulting to her students during lecture. She is not willing to help you during lab. She does not grade things in a timely manner. U have to learn all material on your own because if you are not making an A, she will not help you or smile at you or talk to you. she said taking any other teacher for A&P is taking the "easy way out"
So take the "smart way out" and Don't take her. Take someone who will want to see their students succeed while at the same time, giving them a challenge. Someone who will want to work with their students during lab, to give them a good understanding of the material, instead of being absent during lab. She wrote a test 15 min. before test time. ba
Good professor, keeps the material interesting during lecture. As for lab, having taken Basic Anat before this with a different professor, I find that I just don't like the set up for lab, it feels forced. Overall Lab grade was very poor compared to lecture exams. I will be taking this professor for Anat 2.
She is not a mean person. And she doesn't try to make you fail, but you can't be lazy. It is a challenging class and she lays out the guidelines from the beg. If you dont like them, drop the class. The only complaint I have is that she gives you no leway for error at all, and frequently moves tests forward.
Shaw is tough - no doubt. If you are going to apply for a health care program though, you need to get used to the level of difficulty and the time and studying requirements. She IS clear in class; she teaches this class as if, surprise, you're in COLLEGE and not HIGH SCHOOL. Get used to it.
Professor Shaw is a very difficult teacher, but she is good at what she does and you will learn a lot from her class. Whenever you need help and have a question, she is happy to help, except when she is having a bad day. I would recommend Professor Shaw to anyone that actually wants to learn the material and not just earn an easy A.
Ok. She's smart but NOT a good teacher. I don't recommend her. Drop rates in her class are extremely high (65%-70%). If you want to take her. You need to STUDY, STUDY & STUDY HARD.
Teacher testing is extremely hard and has a bit of a power trip
Jennifer Shaw is horrible! She spent most labs in her office. When she did show up, she gave little direction. Students often verbalized (purposefully so Shaw could hear) how frustrating it was that she was so disinterested in teaching us. In lecture, we learned way too much about tossing cats and her sorry husband. Unprofessional & unhelpful!
Shaw is a control freak with mind blowing mood swings. She acts like a gossipy teenager bouncing around the lecture stage telling the most random stories about her life experiences. She leaves us alone in lab class without any instruction. When a girl got hurt during a dissection, Shaw didn't no how to work the eye rinse station. (Goggles anyone?)
Professor Shaw is VERY difficult, but if you can stick it out you will be fine. She is moody! Often she is distracted by her own life so somewhat unprofessional. ONce the failures drop the class she is great, and in lab she IS not there much at all. She will be in her office across the hall drinking her TEA!!
Don't talk during lec.Turn phone off. Read & reread! Its hard but be diligent. I am so thankful to have J. Shaw in my life. She is knowledgable, but admits when she does not know something. She really thinks about the questions you ask to make sure she answers to the best of her ability. The material is daunting & somewhat dry. Wakeup!itsyourLIFE!
All of the people complaining would never last in a University. I'm taking Anatomy now because the Univ. didn't accept my A&P1 credit. And I seriously wish I had her again. Only reason I'm keeping my head above the water is because of what I learned in her class! She's not easy by any means but you actually LEARN the material. Just don't be lazy!
Professor Shaw is pretty tough, but her guidelines are clear-cut. I found her lectures to be very informative. Compared to other professors I've had she explains concepts and ideas well. She offers plenty of reference material outside of the text to refer to. I took her for A&PI and am taking her for A&PII next semester.
She is an AMAZING teacher. She does help you alot with everything there is to know. People that fail her class are usually the slackers, she says it from the beginning that it is a VERY HARD class, which is true. I for one had to withdrawl because I never used the book but I cant complain because she is letting me go to the class stil to try again.
SHE IS GOOD WITH THE MATERIAL, BUT VERY HARD TEACHER
Excellent Teacher! She knows her stuff. I took Professor Shaw for A&P I/II. This is college not high school. Her guidelines are very clear cut and easy to follow. Her presentation of the material was awesome.
I really enjoyed Professor Shaw's class. She was very helpful and friendly. She is strict but she is also fair. She goes over all the material and if you take good notes, you should do well in her class. She also gives you extra credit homework and it really helps.
I LOVE Professor Shaw. She was always extremely helpful if you asked! It is a hard class but everyone needs to understand that going into this class. If you study and show up for lec and lab you will pass this class!! There were several full time workers and students in this class that passed. You just have to put the time into studying!
Professor Shaw is extremely intimidating at first. She is very knowledgeable and does not put up with rowdiness and/or laziness. But, she is very caring, understanding, and helpful once you get to know her. She responds to emails faster than any Professor I have ever had. I recommend her for all A&P classes. BE PREPARED TO STUDY NO MATTER WHAT!!!
professor shaw was the best teacher i have had. she is extremely organized with her notes and she knows the subject extremely well. it was a hard class but if you put in the effort u will succeed. i would recommend her to everyone that actually wants to learn anatomy. she is an amazing teacher!!
The students who complain about her are the ones who don't take notes/do prelabs/study. If you skip class, you will not do well. She is also unwilling to bend over backwards for those students. If you are studious, you will pass and you will have developed habits that will help you in future classes. Shaw is really funny and passionate about class!
This teacher is ridiculous. Ive never dropped a course until I took her. if you ask for help, she just points you to the book. There are a lot of surprizes on her exams. There are Essay questions on the exam that take up at least 15 points, and shell mark the whole thing wrong without explaining why. She has too many classes and not enough time.
Started as a good prof., went downhill @ the end. She is very strict & not willing to help much with questions. Doesn't like to repeat anything, doesn't like to answer questions, but instead tells you to go to directed study during the weekends. She talks about her personal life too much. Doesn't give progress reports, so you don't know your grade!
She is clear and uses hand written notes to teach. This class is hard no matter who the professor but she makes it harder. Essay questions, trick questions, no curve but did have a few extra credit chances. She does not post grades on pal. Don't ask questions unless you want to feel stupid.
Shaw made this class way more difficult. Every time I asked a question it seemed like she did not want to answer it. Asking her a question was like asking an intelligent brick wall a question... she would hardly answer but told you to go to directed study. I will never ever take a course taught by her again.
I'm not sure why anyone would recommend Shaw. Her notes are nothing like the test. She expects you to do the objectives, but that doesn't even help you. All of her tests are a surprise, and she does not have any sympathy. I was a point away from passing and she did not have any mercy. I couldn't study anymore for her class. Do not take her.
I took her Medical Terminology class online. I expected to be taught only medical terminology, but I had to learn anatomy and physiology, pathophysiology, and treatment techniques. This class was difficult and involved a lot of studying because anything could be on her test & it was a lot. It was a challenging course and barely made a B.
I took Shaw for A&P 1-2 and I do not recommend her. Her notes were nothing like her test, and she told you to do the lecture objectives, but they didn't relate much either. And she's very unsympathetic, doesn't care much about you as a person.
Jennifer Shaw is a very tough teacher, if you plan to slide by with no effort you will NOT make a good grade. I was very hesitant to take her because of her reviews but now that the semester is over I am very glad I did, I have retained a lot of information! Read her notes and do the objectives she makes it clear what she expects from you.
I took Professor Shaw for Medical Terminology online. It's my first class back to college in six years. It was A LOT of work. A lot of studying. Definitely not an easy A. But you know what? If you take the time to do the work and study, it's possible. Professor Shaw responds to emails very quickly, is very helpful and encouraging, and nice.
I'm an adult student and the only thing I have to say about this teacher is Choose another teacher. If you see her RUN
just don't. .this class is hard enough as is, if you don't have the time for her class don't even try and take it. her lectures are note based and her test are 50% essay with no study guide or idea what she will ask, she grades hard. if you don't have 15 or more hours to study for this class you won't do well.
The workload Professor Shaw drops on you is a LOT so be prepared to always have your nose buried in the book and writing papers. Never felt like I could catch up. I had to drop this class due to personal matters, and knew my grade would suffer if I tried to juggle both. Extremely tough grader, but very responsive on emails and questions.
Basically the whole class is the lecture test, everything else is irrelevant. The worst part is that her lectures barely cover the material for the test. Expect to see things you've never heard about on the test. P.s her pet names are more important than the actual material, you'll use those on basically every test.
She puts the notes on the board, so you spend all your time copying and not really listening. Tests are half multiple choice, the other half is short essay with questions that are 10-16 points each. Spell something wrong, the answer is wrong. Very tough grader, no wiggle room at all. Learn all the charts, cause you will have to recreate them.
A&P2 is a rigorous class with a lot of material to cover. Professor Shaw is brilliant, she is highly intelligent and she really cares about her students. She provides several opportunities to do well in her class. The bad reviews are likely from students who did not even make an attempt. The notes are the test and she explains tough concepts well.
Her lecture tests are based on short answer questions but after you gauge how/what she emphasizes on each chapter lecture you have a pretty good guess on what a few of them will be. Give plenty of extra credit ops as well as HW to help your grade. Shes really intelligent but will break ideas/concepts down simpler when asked. i would take her again!
this teacher is the most horrible teacher ever, wouldnt work with me from the start because i had trouble getting on the website to do my assignments, not understanding at all, assignments have to be done on time, if you miss a exam, she will withdraw you without any email or anything from her end and she reinstated me & told me i was going to fail
This professor made this class extremely hard to pass. She didn't seem willing to help you when you needed it or answer questions. The quizzes weighed so much that my exams didn't even change my grade. Wouldn't take her again.
After taking Colleen Caldecutt for A&P1, I chose to take Shaw for A&P2 and it was a very smooth transition. Gives great notes and makes it very achievable to get a good grade using MAP, extra credit, and lecture tests that come straight from the notes. Great Professor, difficult course but she made it enjoyable.
Be prepared to work!! There is a lot of assignments due each week, test are extremely hard and I studied hard for this class. Professor grades tough but she really just wants to prepare her students for the professional field. Only take this class if you have the time for it.
Professor Shaw is one of the best professors I have ever had. She is so intelligent the way she explains things really shows how well she knows the material. Listen carefully to her instruction and combine that with the text and you will do just fine on the exams!
I took professor Shaw for A&P 2 and it was HARD! Overall she is a cool person but do not slack off in her class she has very little leniency for students who aren't willing to put in work. She gives study guidelines for lecture test but for lab your pretty much on your own, lots of memorization is required for the lab portion. Some extra credit.
I am currently taking Professor Shaw for Online Med Terms. I have taken many hard professors before taking her so this is nothing new. She definitely makes you work for the grade so studying is key. I would recommend taking her to prepare you for any medical program. I've heard from my friends in the RN program that she really prepared them.
Shaw is amazing. She writes all the notes by hand and really knows the material. Her notes are her lecture tests. Learn all the step by step processes and charts like the back of your hand cause those make up the essay portion of the exams. Provides plenty of extra credit. But YOU HAVE TO STUDY. Your grade will depend on how much effort you put in.
At first I enjoyed this class because I enjoyed learning the material but every soon it became a chore. 2 sometimes 3 chapters a week with 2 quizzes and a workbook due each. No study guide the first exam and then the next exams she did except for the final. Little sympathy for her students and is willing to withdraw you if you're failing (syllabus)
She acts like you have no other classes and absolutely no life and have the time to sit at your computer for 12 hours a week doing three 150 slide powerpoints and an ungodly amount of throwaway assignments. She's an extremely tough grader and is horrible at communication and responding to emails. Only take her if you absolutely have to.
Professor Shaw is one of best that Ive ever taken. Shes entertaining, highly intelligent, and makes learning fun. Yeah, I had to work hard but know I will in the Nursing program. Anyone that wants to come prepared to the RN program, laugh, then shes your Prof!
Is Professor Shaw hard and require work? Yes! But did I learn a lot to help me get into my program? Yes! Strongly recommend!
Really enjoyed taking her class, this is a simple class where you go over medical terminology. The assignments were very interactive which is great if you are a visual learner as well as study like games that counted for a grade. Each exam was monitored as usual and involves a writing assignment where she gives possible topics to choose from.
She was nice but I will have to drop this class. I understand nursing school will be tough but her exams are 100 points each, she gives wrong answers even if the spelling is wrong, so many assignments a week its like you cant catch up also 53 question exams but you cant even use a study guide? Will never take her again.
BEWARE!! I took Shaw for Medical Terminology online, my biggest mistake this year! Shaw is the worst instructor I've dealt with in a long time. For someone that has no problem assigning so much homework each week, she sure is lazy when it comes to doing her job. And she doesn't respond to emails sent via Canvas. Be warned, friends!
Professor Shaw is tough, but she gives you the tools to be successful and really cares about her students. Watch the lectures on repeat. Go to the lab and get to know the models. Attend all zooms, and ask questions. Her Canvas is very easy to navigate, and there are no surprises. If you are not successful with her then you are doing it wrong!
One of the worst professors I have ever encountered. She does care about you at all and she doesn't grade the assignments. My worst experience with her was that I needed to take an exam in the TLCC, and she was supposed to send out the link for me to take the test. She did not send the link till 8 pm when and the test was literally due that night.
Please take Professor Shaw in person. She is incredibly kind and understanding. If you study her lectures and *LEARNING OBJECTIVES* you WILL do well. She will advocate for you if you need help. She is not the type of professor that is cold and uncaring, she understands the struggles of students. lots of xtracredit- she wants you to do well!
Horrible professor. I took Shaw for Medical Terminology online, never again. She assigns lots of homework and yet is lazy to do her job. She takes forever to grade exams and forever to respond to emails and concerns about assignments and exams. No study guides at all. She made the course hard to pass. Would never take her again.
I don't recommend her to anyone she failed me and her lecture exams were on honolock which I don't like because it gives me testing anxiety and she wouldn't let us use our notes which I didn't like. Also her lab exams were very hard and you are on our own in lab which I don't like I won't take her again because I failed the class the second time.
Professor Shaw lets her personal issues get in the way of her job. She misses deadlines and always has an excuse. Exams are hard, on Honorlock, no notes, and worth 60% of your grade. She's not helpful, offers no extra credit, and seems unstable in emails. Overall, having her as a professor will be a disservice to you. Stay away..
Get ready to spend most of you time trying to pass this class. She is not easy to reach, and seems to always have something going on which will stop her from finishing deadlines. She is very unreliable. DO NOT TAKE HER IF YOU WANT A SMOOTH SEMESTER.
Hi! I don't want to spread negativity about this professor, but I want to warn those who plan on taking her class (especially online) that she does not exactly answer emails, making communication hard and unclear. Her work is great, and I think I am very successful with her content, but communication is very important.
Life can only happen to Jennifer - no sympathy and needs to come off high horse , guys beware do not take her these ratings are absolutely correct , drop before spring , she's barely accessible because she always has a procedure or something with her kids - but if you have something to bad so sad she lacks empathy - I don't think she likes her job
Jennifer Shaw is not the one , save the time and stress and please believe these warnings , she is awful no sympathy but always unavailable hard to reach - she has ton of personal stuff going on , she doesn't even like going to campus she wants to give people a hard time and hide behind her monitor- run and drop
