i loved ms. siemantel. she was a great teacher, very helpful, liked the class
She is a great teacher but you really do have to study in her class. She really has tought stuff on the exams.. but she is an overall great teacher to have, really cares
there was a lot of work... but as long as u pay attention and follow her instructions... u'll do fine. she's pretty funny too!
she was funny or tried to be sometimes. anyone who thinks she was hard - was never in class!
She is the best Bio teacher ever! She is extemely clear in how everything works (in the cell or other). She breaks down all the notes in an easily understandable, professional way. An understanding teacher, and she does have a funny sense of humor. If you attend all classes and study hard, you will do well in the class.
This teacher started out teaching then she let some Rhonda Fuhrmann do all the teaching. This was the worst class I ever had in my life. Please don't take this teacher. If you do you will be sorry.
Took her for nutrition. At first I was a little wary because she seems kind of vicious, but she's really not bad at all. As a matter of fact, she's really funny and nice, and she is definitely willing to help you if your grades in danger. A++ professor!
Okay, i'm a freshman and biology is my major. This lady is really good at getting the point across. She's not one of those teachers where you have to figure out what she's trying to say. She gives good notes and as long as you go to the class and put forth the effort, everything will turn out great! She's really funny and sarcastic at times and mak
DO NOT PROCRASTINATE! ITS NOT YOUR FRIEND!.. That is what she says everyday. She is right! She gives you all the notes.. go to class, you will pass with flying colors. She also makes sure the tutoring center is there to help.. she is willing to help. GREAT professor.
It was a very difficult class;however, if you were having trouble you could ask her to explain things. Sometimes she gave busy work, that wasn't so fun. Other than that she was great.
B 4 u dismiss the teacher by my ?ease? score please realize that BIOLOGY IS NOT A BLOW OFF CLASS. Mrs. Siemantel is an excellent teacher. I took the online course and she is very organized. She will answer question within 48 hours.U will complete a TON of work but most is easy.Tons of extra credit. Easy A. Test make you think..good for pre-RN.
I would not reccommend not taking a hybrid class if you struggle with Biology. This lady was hard. I would study for test and the stuff I studied would not be on the test! She did give a lot of extra credit which will help out A LOT!So beware if you take this teacher be prepared to work your butt off!
Beware! would not reccommend. Teacher did have a lot of extra credit. Tests were extremely difficult. She thinks that we are on her level and she does expect a LOT out you. I would reccommend taking another teacher on campus.
Took Siemantel spring of '08. Hard class but worth it. If you actually open the book and read oh and study.. you will pass the class. I made a 95% and thats WITHOUT extra credit. She is quirky! Great professor!
If you think that you are interested in getting into the medical field, take her. This class is very challenging but if you can make it through this class, you got it. She is really hard but I got a lot out of the class. Lots of work and lots of research but that is the only way that we will learn biology. Great professor.
Find a different professor if you can. Her tests are extremely hard and there's a ton of work. She is very elaborate on what she wants out of you on your assignments and if you miss any little detail she is not about to give you a break. I made a B but didn't really learn much in this class.
Had to drop class. She expects too much from you.You basically need to eat, drink and sleep Biology. If you have other responsibilites in your life then choose another instructor.
I totally recommend her! Yes she is hard, but you learn so much in her class. There is a lot of studying to do in her class and if you miss one assignment then you will fall behind. You just have to stay focused, study, and forget about everything else in your life. GREAT PROFESSOR!!
I took this class online this summer. Though i made an A the exams are hard!. Though the homeworks kind balance it out since they easy and one can get all the points. The prof. responded to my email and question quickly and as expected. I am enrolled in her Bio 1407 online too which is a 3 week class. Hope to Ace it too.
Though the cengage now labs were hard, the exams were fair except exam 1. but i managed to get an AAAAA!! I would recommend her especially to people who do not have time to attend traditional class and that this is not your first biology experience since all labs are online and first timers need to know how to use a microscope.
Maybe it'll look brighter in a couple if weeks, but 8 out of every 10 students is failing this class. I love this class because it is challenging, it makes me get up and study, but so far I am failing!
I took her for bio1406 as well. Everything that is expected of you is laid out in the syllabus. The labs were kind of hard and the exams are EXTREMELY hard. You really have to study. The lecture notes are a must! I made an A in 1406 and a B in 1407. Good class if you don't want to or have time to take traditional classroom version.
Take this class only if you don't have a life and don't take a full load when you take it because you will fail! It is hard. The professor isn't very nice at all so think your gonna go in smiling and joking with her about anything. This class isn't to be taken lightly. I took the Hybrid class and you may want to take the traditional class.
Professor Siemantel's BIOL 1406 online summer course was not easy. She expects you to work hard on the assignments and to study equally as hard for the tests. Pay attention to the lecture notes, instructions, and syllabus, take the TYK's until you score perfectly, take the EC, and STUDY. She is very helpful if you take the time to ask questions.
Great Professor! This class was extremely hard, but as long as you put the effort, you should be fine! Make sure to ACTUALLY study or you will now be successful in her class. She really knows her biology! I made an A but it was not easy at all. Good Luck!
She offers an online class so that you think it will be better for people that work and have kids but instead she makes it extremely hard. Her lecture test are online so she words the questions to make them very difficult to understand. I dropped the class and there were 17 people left and over half were failing and the rest were barely passing.
this class is a full load. no matter what people say here, shes extremely difficult because theirs to many assignments to do. yeah her syllabus gives you what to do but theirs to much. i do not recommend her. if your taking one class per semester than this class is for you. I don't mind learning the subject but is an over kill with work.DONOTTAKE
Took Biol 1406 and 1407 online got a 'B' both times. Textbook is needed. It is a little difficult, but I never passed any of my tests. So as long as you do all of the homework and labs you will do GREAT! Highly recommend if you have a busy lifestyle like mine (:
I was very afraid to taking biology, especially for science majors. Like any first time college student I did not know what to expect. Mrs. Siemantel is an amazing professor. This class will take away much of your time, but its worth it. Studying is important because her test are detailed. Do not expect this class to be easy, but expect to learn!
The material is difficult at times and there is a lot to do, but do all the assignments and you should get at least a B. The tests are very hard, but the labs, discussion boards, and papers are pretty easy.
I took the hybrid version (lecture online, lab on campus). Tests were beyond difficult BUT I learned more in this class than I did in previous biology course. Only saw professor once for 20 minutes on first lab day and she doesn't seem friendly. A different instructor does the labs and I absolutely LOVE her! Very helpful and patient. If you want to earn your grade, I recommend taking this class. If you want the easy way, choose someone else.
She and her husband both teach the class and both of them are hard..Her tests are extremely hard! but she grades on the point system so if you do all of the assignments you should pass.
This class if very difficult. The Labs are fine - It's the online lectures. Ecampus is very confusing and difficult to follow, too many tabs to click on to find assignments. I think I learned more by using Youtube!I think there needs to be a school curriculum to follow instead of her own. May class started with 30 people, 12 left at end of semester
Great professor..took online..she answers emails quickly and friendly. Yeah test are difficult but like any class study and you'll do fine..just follow her rules for assignments in the syllabus exactly and you'll do fine. I did not so good on all the test and still passed with a B......like another rater said do every test your knowledge until you get all points that helps a lot....but class is 100% online no proctored exams..
Took online class with on-campus labs. Lecture exams very hard; lab very easy. Got a 'C' average on lecture exams, 'A' average everything else, and final grade an 'A'. Very possible to pass class.
Online Maymester. Tests are very hard. Labs are easy. Take the TYKs until you pass and do all of them for extra credit. It helps a lot! Study hard for the tests. I made a B+ but it was mostly due to the TYKs and Labs. You will learn a lot in this class if you study! Suggest taking in class!
Professor is very clear with instruction. Follow her rules exactly (font, color, times, date and length of assignments.) The test seemed to get more difficult. I took the class online and I am done lacking one exam, and I think I will make a B+. You will know your stuff, but this class is not an easy A at all!
Took Online. Lots of homework but it is all pretty easy. Do TYK assignments for easy points, plus you can attempt them as many times as you want. Tests are pretty hard although I didn't get a textbook, so I'm sure it would've helped. Like I said, it's a lot of work but I got a B with pretty minimal effort.
Prof. Siemantel is a good professor but she's very evolutionary minded & it comes out in her lectures. Her tests are beyond hard even if you study well but the DB & papers are fair if you follow her directions exactly. She's always willing to help if you ask. I made an A & a B in her classes so it is possible but you will have to work for it.
Prof Siemantel is pretty fair as far as professors of science courses go. She gives you an opportunity for extra credit that I suggest everyone take advantage of. The online labs and discussions are easy. Tests are hard. My highest test score was a 78, but with the EC, labs, quizzes and discussions, I was able to make an A in the class. Suggest.
This is NOT an easy class but she makes it very clear and i've learned a LOT. she uses pretty much all learning styles in her teaching and she really wants you to pass and will give help if you ask for it. you can tell she really cares about this subject!!
Highly advisable to do the work. She gives you extra credit. It will definitely help your score. She is fair and lets you know how and what to study. Like myself, even if you do very poorly on the exams, the credit that you have done will help you. It is a difficult class.
She was so rude and unsympathetic to students. Answers questions in a curt tone and rarely helps when you ask. Not a helpful professor.
Run away!! Super hard class!! Should be easy to understand but Professor Siemantel has so many rules for every assignment, be prepared to read a whole page of instructions for anything and follow every instruction exactly, even the right font, or you’ll get a zero.
Assignments don’t make sense and don’t apply to the course materials. A group project was assigned and had so many rules and guidelines it was hard to work together on anything. Then group members evaluate each other and she took random points off for how you evaluate someone else. You’ll get a ZERO on assignments for doing anything wrong.
I was one point away from an A but she wouldn’t offer any help at all. Very unsympathetic to students and it seems like she goes out of her way to make you lose points. Lots of people dropped. Not a nice person, she was unpleasant to many of us.
OMG!! This professor was no help at all. I took her online and she never responded to any of my questions. Whatever you do please do not take this professor.
I made a B, but it wasn't easy. She left NO room for "error". In other words she thinks the world is perfect therefore, if something goes wrong (power outage, computer crash), it wasn't her problem. I got a 0 on one assigment because of a technical issue on the website we are required to use.
What ever you do please don't take this class. You will not get any help when you need it and assignments are too specific. DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS!
A different professor would be better. Her tests are extremely hard and there's a ton of useless work. She is very elaborate on what she wants on each of your assignments and if you miss any little detail she won't take it at all. I didn't really learn anything in this class.
This lady creates her own curriculum that was very unorganized. Quizzes are easy but tests are hard to study for because the lectures don’t make sense and questions are very different from the quiz. The questions are worded in a very tricky way, so you won’t even understand the test let alone be able to answer questions.
Took this class online, the tests and quizzes are very confusing and too many tabs and instructions and emails but she won’t answer any of your emails
This teacher is not helpful at all . She has really specific ways for you to communicate with her and if you don’t do it correctly she will ignore you . There are countless instructions , she has too many documents all with special instructions that could all be put t ogether and made into a book . I do not recomend you take this class .
She asks you to write papers that don’t have anything to do with the course. If you actually write about biology, you’ll receive a zero because the paper was not fictional enough. Be careful with reading the fine prints of her assignment instructions or you’ll be messed up big time. This isn’t a real class.
BEWARE OF THIS TEACHER! Her lectures are very confusing and usually go off on tangents that have nothing to do with the lectures. She expects you to know intricate details by the first test like you're a microbiologist like her. I'd advise you not take this class.
Hard Class. Makes it so difficult. Do not recommend.
The class is not easy and extremely fast paced, but I made it out with an A. At ~ 3 weeks, you MUST stay ahead. Try for a week ahead. She and her husband co-proctor simultaneous sections. Excellent feedback. I completed all EC and really spent time on DBs, TYKs, and Labs - get those perfect and pass tests, then you should be at an A or B!
Excellent Professor. Took this course with fast track online and it is just that. ALL online and fast paced. Keep up with your work and you will do great. Both this professor and her husband are extremely organized, send reminder e-mails and respond to e-mails very quickly. If you study for tests and do EC you'll do great. Highly recommended.
I would advise not to take this class. The class wasn't very hard however the insructor made the class difficult. I took the class i the 5 wks summer course. Test are very hard course work and online labs were not to bad just time consuming. I was 2 points from a B at a 78 and she kept my grade as a C. Dont take her class!
I wound not suggest anyone to take this Professer . She dose not know how to Honestly speaking I am a straight A student but I got a C which I worked very hard for. I was 1 point a way from getting a
I would not suggest this prof she does not know how to teach does not love her students honestly speaking I am a straight A student but I got a C which I worked very very hard for . I have not worked this hard for a class and get a C+ I was only 1 point away from getting B but she did not made it B Very disappointing
I took this professor online and it was very tough, assignments were due immediately once the course started even though book items hadn't been bought yet and she accepts no late work.
Over half of the people that I started with in class had to drop it due to failing grades. It is pretty much impossible. If you do have questions she act as if it is a chore to have to answer you either you will be ignored or have an attitude about it. I do NOT recommend taking this necessary credit with this professor. Please proceed with CAUTION.
A great Professor teaching an extremely tough subject. Always answers emails in a timely manner. Gives extra credit. You have to do the work if you want to pass. This is NOT an easy class but she is well organized and very helpful. This is not an easy A class. You have to do the work. I highly recommend her to everyone.
I took both BIOL 1406 & 1407 online with Prof. Siemantel. This is a very difficult class and it is by no means an easy grade. I received A's in both semesters. The classwork and labs appear daunting at first glance, but when the semester is over and you take her exams, you're thankful for the extra points and its worth it. Complete all coursework!
If you read the chapter AND lecture notes exams are definitely passable, although they are rather difficult. Follow instructions completely and turn in all homework by deadlines and you'll get full credit. Material is very organized and laid out from the beginning of the course. Commit to learning, manage your time well, and you'll do just fine.
online class is lots of work. but she gives you ample time to work ahead. You are getting labs&class all online. If you expect an easy A, like other online classes, forget it. You must embrace this class & work WAY ahead and take it seriously. You wont ace her exams (no), but you can attain a B, and maybe even an A with effort. It's worth it.
This online class is horrible, take at own risk she and her husband Stewart do everything in their power to fail every student I think they get joy from students failing the class. The tests are outrageously hard and difficult you can study her and his dictionary notes all day and night and never pass. If I was you I would find another professor.
RUN NOW!!! Very hard professor, unreasonable and seemingly prejudice. Choose another professor if you can !!! I was interested to learn but she makes it harder than it is.
The Siemantels aren't that bad. The tests ARE difficult, but there are a LOT of other opportunities to earn points. I have an A in the class and have gotten C's and B's on the exams. It's easy to tell they don't want to be bothered with questions from students - the faqs section has a snarky tone - but follow the instructions and you'll do fine.
There is a lot of homework and labs. The exams are pretty tough, however she gives you sufficient material to study from. Try to get A's on all the Discussion Boards, Labs and Papers and you will pass even you you do semi bad on the exams. The toughest part is not the professor but the subject itself. Need to really study for this class.
I normally make "A's" however, this teacher tests were the hardest I have ever taken. No matter how hard I studied. Only reason I made a B is because I literally made an "A" on all assignments and did the extra credit. All I can say is her tests don't match her notes so beware.
The professor(s) is no where to be found as far as teaching goes. The course material is pre-made and out of date, many many things are incorrect in the studies which means you must test from the book and only the book. Tests are stupid hard and deadlines are relentless. Not engaging at all and I like biology. Very hard to make an A.
This class was horrid. I literally made a 40-65 on all tests and still passed with an 80 because of all of the BUSY work she assigns. The tests are impossible to pass, even when its taken completely online. I have never in my life taken tests as hard as hers and i've been a nurse for 5 years! Stay far away if you can.
She is really nice and engaging. Her class is one of the only courses that is at the collegiate level, that is why people don't like it because most classes at Cedar Valley are easier than high school classes. She actually makes people work for their grade.
I actually liked her as a teacher. i learned so much from this class. Yes, this class does require a lot of attention but it's doable. The tests can be tricky but as long as you do the extra credit, you will be fine in the class.
Horrible! The tests may as well be in a foreign language. They contain very little from notes, and book. There is plenty of chapter reviews you can take several times, but some answers are wrong and at times a correct answer is marked as incorrect on them, making a perfect score impossible. Make sure to study info that you're told you won't need!
Though the outline of the class was very specific, the quizzes were difficult because the right answers were not always available on every quiz. The same goes with tests, impossible to pass. Make sure you do all of the homework and do it well or your grade will suffer along with the test grades and don't expect email to be responded to quickly.
the best lol
I took her for Biol 1406 and passed with an A. I cannot stress the need to look at the lecture notes in order to pass those tests. If I could take her for every biology class i'll need in the future, I would do it.
Be prepared to study your ass off, the test chapters were so hard. She gave us slides to study which is great and all, but they don't help you at all because NOTHING that is on the slides is on the test. The test is 50+ questions and she only gives you an HOUR to do so. Its impossible to finish such a complicated test with just a hour!
This class was far from easy! I read each chapter (a must!) and did the chapter reviews and tests were STILL hard! The labs are pretty easy and there is one big power point to do, but if you don't procrastinate, it is easy to put together, just takes time. I learned a LOT in this class!!! Loved this class in the end!
Super easy, just work ahead. Do all the extra credit.
I took Biology 1406 online. I bought the ebook but hated the format and never used it. Her grading guidelines and expectations are very clear. The chapter reviews and lecture notes weren't very helpful but her tests were still easy to pass, got a B on three of them and a C on one of them and I still got an A in her class. No late work accepted.
This class is ridiculous! I mean Professor act like we dont have other classes and homework. Too many chapters to cover in little time. I take plenty of good notes, read constantly, and test is totally different from the notes we go over in class. Something needs to be done about this, because our money is getting paid to the school to fail.
Worst online class I've ever taken. Took the 3 week course online, bought hard copy of book. Highly do not recommend 3 week class unless you can give your undivided attention to the class for the 3 weeks. Busy work of discussion boards and online labs are pretty easy. Exams are a nightmare, felt there was no way to prepare for the unfair tricky Q's
From the moment I've started her class, I've noticed that she is very specific. Her tone on her syllabus can be a bit rude, but that's only to get her point through. Work is easy to deal with- though she can be a tough grader- just read the instructions thoroughly; and you'll do fine.
Hey guys im torn between taking this online or in person for a wintermester. Would anyone mind reaching out to me, so I can ask some personal questions?
Professor Siemantel is very clear in what she expects from the very beginning. This was my second time taking biology and I definitely recommend her( online). Her tests are a little difficult but if you complete everything else you should do fine.
The professor has an outline to read chapters and review power points but quizzes and tests are nothing like the material covered. This professor grades on pure critical thinking. I passed with a C on countless hours of studying.
Her tests were immensely hard. Even if you studied her reviews and power points, it's almost impossible to make more then a high C- to a B on her tests. However, I still passed the class with a 75 because she grades everything else pretty easily. She grades her labs very easily so expect to pass this class, but expect to pass with a C or maybe a B.
Good with communicating about grades. gives a lot of test and quizzes, also gives a lot of opportunities for extra credit with discussion boards. however she does grade hard when it comes to extra credit. you must study for this class, I never bought the book due to all notes and lectures being on PowerPoint online (online class, in class lab)
Finished with a B in the class. Took the online section. 4 exams and I got a 75, 69, 56, and 36 on those exams. Never was one exam anything like the reading or her slides. I truly believe it was lady luck that carried me through this course. Finishing the extra busy work will get you to a low D, but all the rest is in exams. Avoid her if you can.
I took this class despite poor reviews. Its the hardest online class Ive ever taken. You can study for tests all day and still not do well. Her tests are based on critical thinking, not facts. I managed to get an A because I got perfect scores on the labs, discussion boards, and chapter reviews. She also offers extra credit. Avoid this class!
If you are considering taking the accelerated version of the course, dont take this course along with many other classes. Each test has an insane amount of information to memorize. You HAVE to read the book, watch the video links provided in the lectures and make sure you do every lab and discussion board so you can at least make up for the tests.
WORST professor I've ever had! The DB, chpt reviews, and labs are all pretty easy and explained well. But the exams are HARD! Half the information you are expected to know isn't in her lectures or the book. If I hadn't gotten good grades on all other assignments I would've failed. Highest exam grade I got was a 62 and I studied my butt off.
RUN FOR THE HILLS! This teacher kicked my butt. The material in the lectures do not prep you for any of her test. The quizes dont help either. I advise you if you have no other choice but to take her class do ALL of you asssignments that she puts on before hand this will assist you in the long run. Aim for the highest grade possible on the test.
Just because she doesn't spoon-feed you doesn't mean she's a hard teacher or tough grader. And she offers tons of extra credit. Exams are true to her reviews (use her lecture notes, not book). Follow instructions on assignments and they're a breeze. She is easy to get in touch with and communicates frequently. Would definitely take her class again.
I took her for fall 16 study the vocab quizzes! The test are hella hard no matter how hard I studied .. shes sarcastic too. I believe she gave extra credit opportunities tho
I accidentally took this Biol-for science majors (didn't realize I was taking the harder course) and I learned a LOT from this class. The tests were hard, but I studied hard and made an A. Study study study!
I enjoyed this class and the professor. There is certainly a lot of material to learn, but it is not particularly difficult. The professor was fantastic. She was easily accessible, gave transparent feedback on her grading criteria, and was willing to go out of her way to give students the tools to do well in the class.
I took this class online. Overall I received a B and I feel its a grade I deserved, since I don't like Bio and didn't study as much as I should have. Everything you need is online, just follow instructions and you'll be OK. Chapter reviews are based on book and exams are based on powerpoints. Don't take online if you're really needy with help.
Professor Siemantel is truly an outstanding professor. She has an amazing way of connecting lecture and lab material. She is super supportive and will work with you. I truly enjoyed her class. I wish I had taken her for 1406 as well!
This professor wants you to succeed. She is very clear on what we need to know. Although you do need to study hard, There are no surprises. It is easy to make a good grade if you do the work. She is an amazing and very knowledgeable instructor. I would recommend her to anyone. Even my own kids.
Homework is good, but the tests are too hard.
Turned in all my work and scored low on exams and still got a C. Must read lectures, and the exams are tough but if u study your should be ok. I also love how the professors grade with a point scale system. Bio is really hard for me, they required lockdown browser and no book was used. I scored the teacher high because the C grade lol
Professor Siemantel has provided me with one of the best online courses I have ever taken. The syllabus is clear and she has everything due on the course calendar so you know when to get your work done. The exams are hard but doable if you study! I would highly recommend her to anyone taking biology :)
Took Prof Siemantel for online bio1406. I made an A+. She is tough, but fair. She is a professor not here to babysit students. She expects you to pay attention to instructions and put in work and time. She responds quickly to emails - she is very clear in instructions. She cares and it shows - take her if you want to learn and not just coast
I can honestly say her class is one of the hardest things I've ever had to do. I will say by working hard and staying in constant contact with her I was able to pull off a good grade. Instructions for labs were sparse to non-existent. Tests were very hard, and the time limit very short. Don't recommend her for online only!!
Just awful.
I loved her. She isnt here to hold your hand but was for sure there to teach you. Wish there were more review materiel for tests. Overall I recommend if youre actually here to learn.
I felt that this class was decent, but it is entirely self-taught. I found that everything I did in this class I had to learn completely on my own. There would be lecture powerpoints made by the professor for the exam, but much of the info found on the PowerPoints are irrelevant. Even worse, the exams are 100 questions with an hour.
Be ready to study. Like you're supposed to and actually read the textbook. This isn't an easy A class. Put in the work and you'll be fine. This class is probably hard to a brand new student, but you can do this. This professor is a good look at how some STEM professors will be for those transferring to a four year university.
Expect to read a lot. I took the winter-mester class and it is intense for anyone that doesn't have some prior bio/chem knowledge. If you've taken APbio before, it should be familiar to you. This class wasn't that bad, but I've taken upper level sciences like Inorganic & Biochemistry at Uni, so this felt like review for me.
Winter minimester 2020-2021. This was one of the harder classes I have taken in a long time, you really have to work for an A. There' a lot of homework, through the book course concepts and tests are based off the course concepts. She never responded to my email or fixed her first lecture video but responded to my intro email, so that was annoying.
Although this course is tough Professor Siemantal was a great instructor. The tests are very hard in my opinion but I'm not the best test taker either. Study study study is the best advice I can give. I did poorly on all the tests and was still able to receive a B there is plenty of work to do to make up for poor test grades which is awesome.
DONT. Horrible teacher Ive never had a teacher that was so driven to falling her students. She will have quizzes that are 200-500 questions long and then decide to give a Exam thats 50 questions long. The Exams are worded weirdly and also proctored! So no noted allowed AT ALL. I studied hours upon hours only to make exam grades between 40-60s.
Do not take this class.. I literally had to learn everything on my own and learned nothing from the professor. Felt like lots of busy work, I spent days every week teaching myself the material. Do not take this class, especially if you need help from a teacher to learn. This professor treated the class like a high school class and is pretty strict.
She is an incredible instructor, very informative and approachable. You can really tell she loves teaching/helping her students. If you ever have any questions or don't understand something the way it's being explained, she will break it down or explain it differently for you. Answers emails very quickly and is just all around a fantastic teacher.
She has high standards for her students, her syllabus says to reserve a minimum of 25 hours a week for her class. Course concepts (chapter reading + review questions) take around 4-7 hours complete. I wouldn't recommend this class to someone who has other obligations aside from school.
PLEASE DONT THIS COURSE TOO MUCH WORK NO LECTURES ALL SELF TAUGHT. 6 HOURS OF HW EACH WEEK EASILY
dont take
Professor Siemantel is a great instructor who wants you to succeed. Though the workload is heavy, her clear guidance and use of helpful resources like Unstuckstudy make it manageable. Recommended for motivated students.
She is a nice professor but not the best I've had. Her lectures were pretty decent and understandable. I would say her class is not one where you can slack off. She had one extra credit assignment that was time consuming and a lot of students did not do since it also required strict criteria. Overall, she's very encouraging and strict.
Run away from Jennifer Siemantel's class. She dumps a whole textbook for you to study on your own, no guidance whatsoever, she expects you to memorize the entire textbook, and gives lengthy questions that you spend hours doing. If you work full-time like me or have other responsibilities other than school, I wouldn't recommend her.
Wouldn't recommend taking this professor if you have a life outside of her class! I had to drop in order to save my gpa. Also, you're paying them what you can teach yourself. Just take the CLEP exam so you can skip the course altogether.
The Smart books feel completely useless, a bunch of concepts with no real meaning and effectiveness. The exams don't cover what 300+ concepts are supposed to teach you. It feels like slop given to you just to make sure the workload is heavy for you.
I had to do over 200 concepts every week. I never had time to do anything outside of school. If you have things to do besides school, I highly recommend not taking this course.
I loved learning from Professor Siemantel. She's a wonderful professor. Her lectures and labs are the best! She's interactive and present. I couldn't have asked for a better professor.
